 A title sequence, also known as opening sequence is an intro of the film
and films present their title, cast and production team in it. They also
help establish the setting and character of the film. It may consist of
animations, music and images.

 At the beginning of cinematography, simple title cards were used at the beginning of the film to
show the credits, production house. Cards were also used at end. These title cards also identified
the beginning and end of a film. Title cards were also used throughout silent films to convey the
dialogues and plot in early films. However after sound was introduced, music was used to set up
scene rather than title cards.
 Title sequence evolved to then become elaborate pieces of film. As the television was invented it
forced production houses to invest in making attractive title sequences in order to attract
audiences to the cinema. Cinema's new strategy was to show long title sequences before the
curtains opened. It hoped that television would not be able to compete with it.
 Cinema's title sequences grew longer and also started involving graphic design luminaries. This
innovation, influenced the 1960's television predilections for title design due to which there was
creation of strong graphic led sequence for television.

 The introduction of digital technologies in the 1980s and 1990s to film and television changed
both industries and so in the 1990s there was an increase in popularity of opening sequence. A
key sequence was made using primarily analogue means. Soon after this television followed and
networks like HBO began to develop more elaborate and considered title sequences.
 In the 21st century title sequences can be found in a variety of media other than film and
television e.g. video games, music videos and conferences.
