2. Interpretation is the action of explaining something.
Short film is a motion picture which is usually under the length of 40 minutes.
Filmmakers use different techniques to give meaning to a film so that the audience
can understand the story.
The short film must have a good narrative that the audience can understand.
The main character is established by giving that character as much time alone on
the screen as possible. This way the audience will be able to understand that
character as the main character.
Dialogues should also be added in short film. However, if the short film is silent, the
acting and music should be on point and only then will the audience be able to
know what's going on.
3. The filmmakers should also use high angle and low angle shots to show superiority and
inferiority.
The settings and costumes also help to set up the character and their role so that
should be kept in mind. The makeup is also important in setting up character. For
example if a person is wearing worn out and old clothes and the scene is set in some
village, the character will be interpreted as a poor person by the audience.
The lighting is important too for example if there is yellow lighting, the audience will
interpret it as morning.
The cinematography is also very important to help the audience interpret the story. For
example wide shots of location should be shown and mid shots and close-ups of
characters to set them up.
The sound is also very important as they will help set up the mood of the scene and
help the audience engage with the story. Music with beats will help the audience
interpret that the scene is happy.
Along with that the action and expression of character should go with the scene to help
the audience interpret what is going on. For example, if there is something paranormal
going on, the character should look scared, not happy.
All of these factors are important in helping the audience interpret the plot of the short
film.
