Essay On The Tomb Of The Unknowns
I: History of Arlington George Washington, who was the 1st president of the United States, was the
step grandfather of George Washington Parke Custis. In 1759 George Washington married Martha
Dandridge. After the death of Martha s first husband Daniel, she gained the Arlington House. The
Arlington House later became ownership of General Robert E. Lee and his wife Mary Randolph
Custis. Lee left the house in order to fight in the Civil War. Mary was unable to pay the taxes she
needed to, so she had to leave the house, and the area where the house was got turned into a military
cemetery for the Civil War. The Arlington House was on high ground so it was the perfect place for a
cemetery. Montgomery Meig was a Union soldier and one of the main ... Show more content on

Describe The Effects Of Humiliation In Society
A woman outcasted for her sin in a puritan society. A woman ridiculed for what actions she took with
a high ranking official. A woman threatened for what controversy she said. All of the following people
have been exposed to some form of public humiliation, public humiliation has long been outlived
from its more primitive origin. However, the act of public shaming has evolved along with our
technology to deepen the pain on the victim. However the areas of their lives that are affected have
stayed the same and rather just the way of shaming the victim has changed The following texts
describe the effect of humiliation on a person, The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Price
of Shame by Monica Lewinsky, and Is the Internet a Mob Without Consequence? by Nick Bolton.
Public humiliation has always affected the culprit s personal, social, and personal lives. The impact of
humiliation on someone s social, professional lives is that the humiliated person will be an outcast in
society, humiliation will ruin their chances of attaining some type of profession and humiliation will
distance themselves from the people in their personal lives The impact of humiliation on someone s
social life is that they will become an outcast in society. This is because the people in society will be
so disgusted at what acts the culprit did that the people will start to diverge away from this person.
And this is one of the main points of humiliation, to make the culprit aware that they are

Term Structure of Interest Rate
WITH REFERENCE TO THE UK EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF THE TERM STRUCTURE OF
INTEREST? WHAT INFLUENCE DOES THE BANK OF ENGLAND HAVE OVER THE TERM
STRUCTURE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR MONETARY POLICY
To understand the term structure of interest rate we need to elaborate how interest rates function and
how they are determined. Interest rates are a vital tool to all the macro economic policy objectives of a
government such as control of inflation, investment as well as employment. Interest rates refer to the
price paid by deficit agents for borrowing funds from the surplus agents. A line that plots interest rate
at a set point in time is the term structure or yield curve.
Interest rates which may be short term or long term are linked to a ... Show more content on

This particular curve is unusual as it is inverted. The market is anticipating a fall in rates and hence the
shape of the yield curves. The sensitivity of such a curve can be explained taking into account that the
change in the rates reflected is small, 0.24% over the duration of the security, 30 years. This is quite
relevant when speculating on future economic conditions. (www.bankofengland.co.uk)
There are three main theories which relate to yield curves. The pure expectations theory implies that
forward rates are unbiased estimators of future interest rates. This theory states that the term structure
of interest rates reflects the views of the market about the path of future short term interest rates. Thus
when explaining a positive yield curve, the market will be expecting short term interest rates to rise in
the future. The opposite applies when the curve is negative and when flat the markets expect short
term interest rates to remain approximately the same. This theory generally over estimate interest rates
and does not assume that investors are risk averse and want a higher return when investing.
The liquidity preference theory states that bond holders are risk averse and wish to be compensated for
holding the long term security by a liquidity premium. The normal yield curve to explain this should
be up sloping indicating preference for liquidity by investors and lower risk of shorter term

Essay On Mein Kampf
His idolization of war also began in Vienna. Determining that Germans held racial superiority over the
world, he convinced himself the finest thing men could do...was to go to war and conquer foreign
peoples (Shirer,18). Upon learning of the outbreak of the Great War, Hitler recalled I am not ashamed
to say that, overcome with rapturous enthusiasm, I fell to my knees and thanked Heaven from an over
flowing heart for granting me the good fortune of allowing me to live at this time. (Toland,12)
Remove Adolf s future atrocities from history and his actions at the outbreak of the Great War could
almost be laudable. Although not a part of Germany, Austrians collectively assumed themselves

Someone fired a shot turning the march into a riot that ended with the arrest of Hitler. Seizing the
opportunity, Hitler used his publicized trial to further spread the Nazi policies. During his time in
prison he dictated his book Mein Kampf. From 1926 to 1928, Nazi membership doubled and the party
became legitimate. Dissatisfied with the imposed Weimer Republic, the people were eager to accept
something new. Far from the evil dictatorship the Third Reich became, the German people expected
an authoritarian regime like Mussolini s in Italy (Inside bunker). To them, Italy appeared to be running
smoothly and happily. Until the American stock market crash in 1929, the Nazis held little control.
America who previously sent aid to Germany through loans could no longer provide and called for the
loans returned. Still an economically unstable nation, the retraction of the American money forced
banks to close and severe inflation. With millions out of work and dying of malnutrition, the people
turned away from their powerless government and to a party that promised change. The Nazi Party
provided solutions to the unemployment problems the nation faced. They promised work and food for
the people of Germany, a promise actually fulfilled. In 1933, thirty three percent of the population
voted for Nazis and Hitler accepted a position as chancellor.

Immature Mechanisms In Middle Adulthood
Cultural fiction Cultural fiction posits that ideas about middle adulthood are created by cultures.
Different cultures have varying views in the ways they recognize and understand middle adulthood
(Hutchison, 2015). In the United States, middle adulthood is often viewed through 2 cultural lenses.
The first sees mid life as a positive time in which an individual has accrued resources and coping
mechanisms. The second view of middle adulthood is a negative over the hill perspective, in which
this stage is viewed as a time of loss and decline (Hutchison, 2015). These differing views of losses
and gains in middle adulthood can be seen in the dynamic between Harvey Milk, and his adversary
(and murderer) Dan White. Harvey, throughout the film, accumulates as many resources as he can and
makes strides in his cause to gain justice for the gay community. Middle adulthood, for Milk, was
truly the prime of his life. His political opponent, Dan White, however, experienced a series of losses,
including his job and his political influence, which led him to become depressed and volcanically
angry. White s view of this time in his life was likely far more negative than Harvey s.
Immature mechanisms vs. mature mechanisms Immature mechanisms and mature mechanism describe
the ways in which people cope with life s demands. Immature mechanisms include denial, projection,
passive aggression, dissociation, acting out and fantasy. Mature mechanisms include sublimation,
altruism and humor

Surface Dyslexia
Surface Dyslexia and the dual route model of reading. Introduction: Dyslexia is the term used to
describe a cognitive disability in learning that affects reading, writing and communication despite an
average level of intelligence and an equal access to education. (Le Jan et al., 2010). Dyslexia is
commonly used as a blanket term that covers many smaller forms of cognitive impairment including
surface dyslexia, phonological dyslexia, hyperlexia, letter identification dyslexia and letter position
dyslexia. Most dyslexics suffer from multiple forms of these specific dyslexias and cases of pure
developmental dyslexia are quite rare. (Castles, Bates, Coltheart, 2006). In some cases dyslexia is

The Celebration Of Carnival In Twelfth Night And Paradise...
Carnival in history is a grand celebration that most normal people today in Louisiana would have
called Mardi Gras. The grand festival of Carnival is famously known for critiquing numerous social,
gender, political, and religious norms during the Renaissance. William Shakespeare s play about cross
dressing Twelfth Night and John Milton s religious fictional Paradise Lost utilize the festivities and
the enjoyment of traditional festivities carnival ideas like Viola s and Satan s disguises; role reversals
of Olivia, Satan, and Eve; excess food eaten by Sir Toby and Eve; madness in terms of Twelfth Night s
craziness and Satan s wrath; and violence in terms of physical and psychological.
Twelfth Night s name itself is a clear reference to the famous Christian celebration of the Epiphany,
which closely represents the twelfth night of Christmas and the beginning of the celebration of
Carnival which often has partaken in wearing disguises and societal role reversals. The religious
celebration of the Epiphany is also the point in historical religious history where the three wise men or
magi respectfully brought the three gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the recently born Jesus
Christ of Nazareth. In terms of disguise, Viola skillfully and dutifully disguises herself as Cesario in
order to safely find her long lost brother Sebastian who she sadly and quickly presumes is dead. Since
Twelfth Night is a play, the actors put on their disguise, and traditionally the role of

It Happened One Night Characteristics
Certain costume characteristics such as color, fabric, class, and silhouette where used to help portray
details about the characters in the movie It Happened One Night. Fabrics are an important
characteristic for costumes because it helps to distinguish quality and cost. Ellie was dressed in silk in
the beginning and end of the movie. When Ellie was with her father on his yacht and when she went
back home with her father she was wearing silk dresses on both occasions. This tells us that they are
from upper class and have money to be able to afford silk dresses. When Peter is introduced he is
wearing a trench coat which is probably made from a cotton or polyester blend. Through most of the
movie Peter is seen wearing the same suit which looks like a cotton polyester blend. ... Show more

During Ellie s journey to New York she was wearing a black blouse with white stripes in the shape of
a V and a long skirt that was solid black. The silk dresses she wore during the beginning and end of
the movie were a pearl white. The silk dresses were very elegant and upscale showing her upper class
status and her snobby personality. The black blouse with white stripes and the black skirt were meant
to fit in with people that would ride a bus. From the moment we met Peter in his solid beige trench
coat at the bus station to the ending when he met Ellie s father in his nice black suit, Peter s clothes
were nothing but solid colors from beige, grey, and black. The only time Peter wore something that
was not a solid color was when him and Ellie first stayed together in a motel room and he put on his
robe that was black with white dots. The solid colors that Peter wore helped to distinguish that he was
middle class with a proud personality. Class can be defined as quality or cost of a costume or designs
and patterns on a costume. The first silk dress worn by Ellie had a pattern on it and it appeared to be

Factors Influencing The International Students
Factors influencing the international students to choose the United States as their higher study
destination
Prejin Kumar Pradeep Kumar Husson University
Abstract
The United States hosts more of the world s 4.5 million global mobile college and university students
than any other country in the world, with almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom,
the second leading host country. However, little research has done on various components that
influenced a student to choose a country for higher education. In this investigation, I consider a survey
approach on students in selected countries about their preferred study destinations, their reasons for
studying internationally, their main sources of information on overseas study and their opinions of the
U.S. as a potential study destination compared to other key host destinations. Specifically, the quality
of education and research opportunities are the two major factors that students consider before
choosing the United States as their study destination.

Self Doubt Destroys The Mind
The article I choose to do my weekly response on is Self Doubt Destroys the Heart, Mind, Body, and
Soul by Dr.Cynthia Thaik. Have you ever told yourself I can t do it or you just give up on the first try
and never attempt it at all because it never worked? I bet the majority of us do several times. I enjoyed
reading this article because it gives us tips on how to overcome this self doubt. Dr. Cynthia mentioned
that as babies whether we fall tons of times trying to learn how to walk the thought of I can t is never
in our minds. Perhaps, this is true because babies go through the process of learning until they are
grown up the process slows down. As we grow up the process of learning starts to descend little by

The Green Berets And Apocalypse Now
This paper will be discussing the two movies The Green Berets (1968) and Apocalypse Now (1978),
and argue how The Green Berets is a propagandist pro war film depicting the unrealities of the
Vietnam War while Apocalypse Now is an ambiguous anti war film that shows the social and political
absurdities of the Vietnam War. The Green Berets is would be classified as a pro war film depicted in
favor of the American troops. The Green Berets, contrasts the harshness and brutality of the Vietcong
with the generosity and inherently good nature of the Americans in treatment od child, women and
men. On the other hand, Apocalypse Now may be categorized as both a pro war movie and an anti war
movie because the film both reveals and conceals political and national ambivalence towards the
Vietnam War. Therefore this film is not overtly antiwar, but it takes pains to reveal the atrocities of a
war fought by America in the name of democracy and freedom. For example, in the air strike, sampan,
and bridge scenes, the film clearly depicts the death and destruction that result directly from U.S.
involvement; instead of helping innocent civilians, American troops kill them. They are strangers in a
strange land, yet they act as if they own it, staking out territory and firing without provocation. Also,
while the Vietnamese are fighting for their homes, American troops are fighting to go home and home,
to them, is a combination of surfing, Playboy Playmates, and psychedelic rock. These values are

The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice
The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the basis that they
perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner. Sin covers a wide range of behaviors;
but if these behaviors become habits are they still sins? Augustine seemed to believe that sins, whether
small or large, are committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin, Aristotle frequented the
discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the middle ground. As he said, We
assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best actions concerning pleasures and pains,
and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p. 21, lines 28 29). He taught moral vice as different from
vice, and having a direct correlation with incontinence. A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire
for bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of incontinence is explored by Dante in Inferno and
Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and Augustine in his Confessions in the form of lust, a topic
that will be later expanded on. Incontinence is a lack of self control, something man either has a
predisposing for or not; to be incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection
between moral vice and the Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings of
Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions and acts of both
Christian sin and moral vice are explored in an attempt to

Analysis Of Harry Mulisch s The Assault
The Significance of Symbolons in Harry Mulisch s The Assault
The Assault by Harry Mulisch is a fictitious novel with a basis in reality, specifically the reality of
World War II in Amsterdam. It tracks to story of Anton Steenwijk, whose family was killed by the
Germans as a retaliation against the assassination of a Nazi collaborator and police officer, Fake
Ploeg. Anton Steenwijk was the only one out of his family of four to survive, and he constantly fights
to keep these memories buried through years of practiced repression. Despite this, every now and
again, his past is brought to the forefront of his mind by the appearance of characters from his past.

How can he be sure that you really are my son? We make a symbolon. He keeps one half, and at home
I give you the other. So then when you get here, they fit together exactly (15). The symbolon is used to
describe Anton s life, the first half being the person Anton molds himself into following the assault,
and the other half being the four individual incidences that make up his past. Anton Steenwijk cannot
be a whole, complete person until the symbolons come together. So, why didn t the author allow this?
The novel is divided into five episodes, each using the concept of symbolons as a climax or otherwise
integral part. The first use of symbolons is the aforementioned description of them by Anton s father,
and can be considered to be, along with the subsequent events in the first episode, the first half of the
symbolon for Anton s life. This event, the assault, changes Anton s life and is the sole reason that he
goes into such a heightened state of repression which follows him throughout the rest of his life as was
seen in the lines: His father, who had had to take his hat off... he pushed the image away, wanted never
to remember it again; it should never have been allowed to happen as Anton thought about his father
while the event is taking place (28). The introduction of the symbolons at various times in his life, is

The Value Of Life
What is it about human life that makes it valuable? Some people believe that life is valuable even
before birth. Before we are given a name or our gender has been identified, we are valued. As
children, we are taught that we are valuable and that life is valuable. However, what makes human life
valuable? The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two people; a
fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief about the value
of life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our mistakes to our
strengths, we are all valuable.
Roger Ebert was a popular film critic who tragically died from thyroid cancer in 2013. Before he
passed, he revealed to the public that he had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone several
surgeries. The article, The Essential Man, by Chris Jones, reveals Ebert s reasons for valuing life. As
Ebert faced cancer, he learned to value the things that often seem given. For instance, the ability to
speak and laugh. Jones says, The doctors told him they were going to give him back his ability to eat,
drink, and talk. But the doctors were wrong, weren t they? On some morning or afternoon or evening,
sometime in 2006, Ebert took his last bite and sip, and he spoke his last word (Jones 50). Ebert learned
to appreciate the things we often take for granted. Unable to communicate through words, Ebert used

When it comes to varmint hunting all bets are off. You need a gun that can handle shots that are close

danger. If they sense you are there, they will take off running and it really does not matter whether you

have a huge varmint problem or it is the only hunting you are interested in, you may not need the
scopes that are over a grand. It is also perhaps why one of the most popular scopes for varmint hunting

Iago as Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Iago as Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello
Othello is famously regarded as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies. It explores the downfall of a
great general Othello through a series of unlucky circumstances. Othello s character shows a man of
high status whose job, marriage and life is ruined because of his insecurities by a man named Iago.
Iago (Othello s ensign) is able to manipulate Othello, Othello s wife Desdemona and his own friend
Roderigo (a Venetian gentleman). He uses Desdemona s love of Othello and Roderigo s money with
his secret love for Desdemona, to manipulate them towards his own good. He is a psychotic driven to
kill, from strangers on a battlefield to his wife in Othello s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roderigo argues that he deserves to take Desdemona s hand in marriage. His secret love for her drives
him crazy inside at every sight he sees her and Othello together. During this Othello is described as an
old black ram, Even now, now, very now, an old black ram . Iago thinks that Othello is too old and that
he will not be around with his job for long. The play would have opened up with this conversation in
the dark. It goes with the low yet angry dark toned language that Iago uses, Rouse him, make after
him, poison his delight also In personal suit to make me his lieutenant; off capped to him . He is
irritated after not getting the position in the army. While this was all going on Othello and Desdemona
were secretly getting married. Roderigo and Iago hear of this news and go straight to Brabantio,
Desdemona s father, to wake him and tell him of his daughter s whereabouts. The swearing and
shouting by Iago and Roderigo towards Brabantio, would catch the attention of the audience. They
would be eager to understand what is going on. There were no special effects so listening carefully to
the characters was the only way you would understand what was happening. This made it a good idea
to open the play during the night. So you in the audience would get the feel of whispers, people
sneaking around etc. They did not have good costumes

Reflection Of Reading
Before I understood the meaning of words or letters, I loved to read. There is a picture of me in my
childhood photo album, where I am sitting in a wagon surrounded by books. I am wearing red plaid
overalls and a bright green shirt, my hair is in pigtails and I am fixated on the book which rests on my
lap. Although I do not remember this moment, I can tell you exactly what I was doing: I was
examining the pictures of the book and making my own story. I was pointing to each individual word
on the page and saying what I thought it was based on the story I created. This was my favorite way to
pass time at this age, staring at pictures and pretending that I could read as if I were an adult. From a
young age, I was fascinated by adults I thought they were in a secret club that I wanted to be a part of.
I would press my head to doors and sneak around to see what was happening behind my back. I saw
reading as my pass into adulthood, that once I could read I would age 18 years and finally be a grown
up. Therefore, from the age of 3 I dedicated myself to reading, I had no understanding of letters,
sounds, or words yet I still had my face in a book. One day, I was with my friend when I excitedly
demonstrated my reading skills. I read the book as I practiced examining the pictures and then running
my finger over the words, imagining what they might say. I tried to remember the way my mom read
me the book before I went to bed each night. The excitement I felt was surreal, I felt smart

Honey Bees Persuasive Essay
It seems these days there is a lot of movements and protest on just about every debatable topic. The
most recent, young and elderly are protesting the election of our new President of the United States,
Back the Blue in regard to racial protests, and though some may never think of it, there are even
protest about the saving of bees. Saving bees is something I have not given much thought to, but have
come to realize that bees are very important and benefit us in our day to day lives. Honey bees help to
provide our food, including honey. Fruits and vegetables must have bee pollination to produce and
grow. In addition to our food and flowers, our native plants require bees to survive or they would be
extinct. They are also important in providing the livelihood of farmers and growers in the food
industry. So, this slogan is very fitting, Bees Matter! Debates have been that the use of neonicotinoids
began to deteriorate bee hives bee keepers are dependent on. The decline in productivity may have
been caused by neonic, however an explanation has yet to be confirmed. It is believed that media have

The Murderer-Personal Narrative
It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind
brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o
clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, cloaking
them in mist. It would be dark by four. The air was clammy cold, and for all the tightly closed
windows it penetrated the interior of the coach. The leather seats felt damp to the hands, and there
must have been a small crack in the roof, because now and again little drips of rain fell softly through,
smudging the leather and leaving a dark blue stain like a splodge of ink. The wind came in gusts, at
times shaking the coach as it travelled round the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reproaches was carried away in the wind, for the old fellow, after waiting a moment, put up the

his corner, wrapped his blanket about his knees and muttered in his beard. His nearest neighbour, a
jovial, red faced woman in a blue cloak, sighed heavily, in sympathy, and, with a wink to anyone who
might be looking and a jerk of her head towards the old man, she remarked for at least the twentieth
time that it was the dirtiest night she ever remembered, and she had known some; that it was proper
old weather and no mistaking it for summer this time; and, burrowing into the depths of a large basket,
she brought out a great hunk of cake and plunged into it with strong white teeth. Mary Yellan sat in the

The Death Penalty Should Be An Option
When presented with a heinous crime, the question of whether the death penalty should be an option
has often sparked heated debates between left wing liberals and right wing conservatives. Those on the
left would most likely argue that capital punishment does not serve any beneficial purpose in our
society. In contrast, conservatives, provided that they have no religious motives to oppose the death
penalty, would likely argue that it is a necessary punishment for heinous crimes. For thousands of
years the death penalty has been used as the ultimate form of punishment for a vast number of crimes
and in even more numerous methods. Babylon s King Hammurabi identified 25 different crimes that
justified the death penalty; the list did not however include murder. A popular form of punishment
during the colonial period in New England, over 222 crimes were punishable by death. These numbers
began to dwindle to zero once it was determined that capital punishment was inhumane by the British
government ( The history of capital punishment ). The movement to abolish the death penalty has
spread to many other countries around the world but has yet to have a widespread effect in the United
States. Still currently legal in the U.S. in 31 states, the death penalty remains as a reminder of mankind
s barbaric past (Facts about the Death Penalty). Considering how well humans have developed
intellectually and innovatively over the centuries, capital punishment seems like an awfully

Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the
first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the
consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are
morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an
action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over
unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule
utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we
ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate
the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By
way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have
different outcomes depending on the situation. There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In
order to determine how different, the act and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them
in the following scenario. Let s imagine, you are a doctor in an oncology ward in a major city that is
strapped for financial and material resources. One evening, two patients are admitted to the hospital.

The patrols they conducted were inadequate and performed far from often. The area supposed to be
under their control became dangerous because the insurgents moving in the area were virtually
unchallenged. This was no feat for the 101st and 1st platoon because the 101st is a tactically sound
unit that could establish control and a presence in the area but for soldiers that had to do so upon
arrival when it was supposed to be maintained is not necessarily a good thing. The company
commander of bravo, Cpt. Goodwin decided the best way to take back control of their area of
operations is to have a three station cycle for his company. Each platoon would have a twenty one day
rotation at a different location carrying out a different task. The three tasks were to set up TCP on a
main roads, set up a FOB and be the quick reaction force for the other platoons, and the third task was
to patrol the city as per guidance from higher. The least liked job was manning the TCP s. The soldiers
did not like this job because they knew soldiers sitting in the open made for easy targets. The task of
patrolling was no easy feat either, as stated earlier the previous unit left the city in poor conditions.

People in countries all over the world are fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, and it is important to honor and
remember what sparked the riot that started the gay rights movement off running. Stonewall is a
detailed and complete explanation of how and why things boiled over to begin the United State s
battle for LGBTQ+ rights, making it an optimal contender on the list of things to use to expand one s
knowledge and respect for the community and it s history.
Audience: Carter s general intended audience is the entirety of both the LGBTQ+ community and
their trusted allies. More specifically, he targets those who want to be educated on, and celebrate, the
place and the people that were involved in, as Carter himself phrases it, the dawn of the LGBT
movement.
Purpose: David Carter wrote Stonewall to function as a complete analyzation of the riots of 1969. He
wanted to create a reliable source of education over the what, when, where, why, how? of Stonewall.
To support this, Carter states in his prologue, how these various strands [of homophobic events]
eventually came together to create a turning point for the gay rights movement is the subject of this
history (2).
Style/tone: Yes, Stonewall is a historical text, but subtle wording and hints, for example, the way
Carter says tremendous gains made for [the community] rather than a less complimentary phrase,
make it clear that Carter intended to appeal to the LGBT side of his

Examples Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale
Most honorable men of Ancient England practiced chivalry, and committed themselves to a courtly
love with the woman they wanted. Courtly love emphasizes nobility and chivalry in order to wed the
woman of your dreams. Some may even say Ancient England is where chivalry was invented. Courtly
love is romanticized in the Canterbury Tale s: The Franklin s Tale, The Squire s Tale, and The Knights
Tale. These three short stories encompass Ancient England s idea of courtly love through the practices
of chivalry between knights and noblemen. The Franklin s Tale discusses the love triangle of a
courageous knight named Arveragus, a beautiful young lady named Dorigen, and the most handsome
nobleman named Aurelius. Arveragus and Dorigen wed, but Arveragus must leave for two years for
work. During this time Dorigen becomes lonely, and Aurelius decides to attempt to win her over.
However, she gives him a task that he surely can t complete in order to have her. He uses a student s

for not a joust but a war. Both knights pray to two different gods. Arcite prays to Mercury the god of
War, and Palamon prays to Venus the goddess of love. Arcite indeed wins the war, but does not win
the girl as Palamon does. It is understood that because Palamon prays to the goddess of love that he is
more deserving of Emilie s love. Here courtly love is demonstrating because Palamon fought solely

The Three Reasons Of The Consequentialist Theory Of...
The Consequentialist theory of Ethical Egoism sets out to prove that the morally right action is one
that aims to maximise one s own self interest. The moral theory runs on the premise that the principle
of self interest accounts for all one s moral obligations, therefore one ought to act in their own self
interest. This essay will provide three arguments for Ethical Egoism, and argue that they do not
succeed in proving Ethical Egoism is sufficiently coherent and consistent when applied as a moral
theory everyone should follow in the real world.
The three arguments for Ethical Egoism discussed are: 1) Altruism is self defeating; 2) Ethical Egoism
as the moral theory of a rational agent; 3) Ethical Egoism is compatible with common sense morality

EE presents us a world in which the self interests of those who are more powerful than others will
prevail at the expense of those who hold less power in society.
The Ethical Egoist may reject the charges that it is self defeating and contradictory by contending that
firstly; Ethical Egoism argues for self interest in the long run (Shaver). The morally right action will
be one that truly benefits the agent in the long run. Violating the speed limit, or harming others for
short term gain would be detrimental to one s long term benefit. EE as long run theory enables an
ethical framework to be logically extrapolated from EE that will be discussed in this essay s second
argument (Moseley).
The second argument discussed in this essay, laid out by Ayn Rand, argues that an action is rational
only if it maximises self interest (Moseley). Therefore, if we value rationality, we ought to act in our
own self interest. The reasoning follows that if we value the life of the individual, the agent should
always be the one to benefit from their own actions, so the agent must act in their own true self
interest. The ability to act in one s own true self interest in the long run requires a commitment to
reason rather than feelings. Ethical Egoism is the moral theory any rational agent should follow as
furthering one s own interests is in accordance

Organ Donation For An Organ Transplant
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services 18 people die each day
waiting for an organ transplant. They also state that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Those
are significant numbers that should make us very much aware of the monumental impact organ
donation can have on the lives of so many critically ill patients and their families. Although the
tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s
family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ
transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and
death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient
who cannot be saved.
There are two sources for donor organs. The first source removes organs from recently deceased
people. These organs are called cadaveric organs. A person becomes a cadaveric organ donor by
indicating that they would like to be an organ donor when they die. This decision is usually noted
either on a driver s license or on a health care directive. (Ethics of Organ Transplantation, 2004) The
second source for donor organs is a living person. Living donors are often related to the patient, but
that is not always the case and certainly does not have to be the case. The one factor that must occur
for cadaveric organ donation to be possible is brain death. Brain death is defined as

Her name was Sey Tu. Sey Tu was known on the island for her beautiful black hair and her inquisitive

Sey Tu lived in a small house with her father, mother, grandmother and her brother Vanu. The house

very tiny, and all the voices start to fade away. There is a long shot of camera use here. There is a
different type of music played here; the music is also starting to fade away now, into the background
and then gradually the light starts to fade away and the atmosphere becomes pitch black. All you can
hear is the sounds of trains passing over the railway tracks, dramatic music playing increases sense of
tension, piano, violins, strings, and this slowly introduces the theme.

Essay on We Need Gun Control
We Need Gun Control
Baton Rouge, Lousiana October 17, 1992 8:30 P.M....A Japanese exchange student, Yoshihiro Hattori,
was searching for a party he had been invited to. Thinking he had found the house in which the social
would take place, Yoshihiro knocked on the door. Not knowing that they had the wrong house
Yoshihiro and his companion startled the proprietor. After having the front door shut in their face the
two boys began walking back to Yoshihiro s car. Yoshihiro Hattori and his friend, Webb Haymaker,
then turned back towards the house upon hearing the carport door open behind them. Instead of seeing
the party s host, these two boys were greeted by a Freeze and a .44 Magnum carrying Rodney Peairs.

Assault weapons are characterized by the ability to fire large numbers of bullets in a very short
amount of time. These soldier type weapons are made for armies and police forces, not hunters. I ve
got several guns, but I don t see any reason why armor piercing bullets and concealed weapons should
be sold legally in this country. They are only used to kill human beings, Former President Jimmy
Carter (Graves 3) Hunters, usually needing only one shot for their intended kill, have no need of any
such weapon.
When its time to hunt birds, you need a good gun like this Ruger Red Label (a firearm designed for
hunting). Twenty five years ago, in the war in Vietnam, people hunted me. They needed a good
weapon like this AK 47. But you don t need one of these to hunt birds. Senator Bob Kerry (Toner 26)
Sighting the Second Amendment conservative Americans and the Republican party in general do not
believe that a federally imposed restriction on firearms would be good for the American public. The
(Republican) White House, which has long opposed all forms of gun control, declares that firearms of
any type, including assault, is be protected by the United States Constitution. (Ifill 19)
While I agree with the Republicans in that it is every American s constitutional right to bear arms, I do
not agree that this right is best for the country today. The Second Amendment was

Cod Chapter Summary
I chose the book Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World. As the title suggests, and the
author, Mark Kurlansky, explores, a simple fish, more specifically, cod, has an importance that has
been proven throughout history. The prologue is set in Petty Harbour, a town in Newfoundland and
tells a story of three experienced fishermen, Sam, Leonard, and Bernard. They are participating in the
Sentinel Fishery which was an attempt to help scientists and fishermen work together to measure the
supply of cod. Their boat was to catch as many cod as they could and measure and tag them. A second
boat was to catch exactly 100 cod and open them to identify their age and sex. For three men who
fishing was their life hobby, you would think this would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As outlined in this assignment, a hazard is defined as an object, condition, or process that threatens
individuals and society in terms of production or reproduction. I would like to suggest that the process
of overfishing is a hazard that this book unfolds throughout history. Overfishing is simply when cod
are caught at a faster rate than they can naturally reproduce. The author suggests that man is part of the
natural world and the two can t separate themselves, and in this case the activity of overfishing is
driven by man. Cod provided a source of protein and a financial stability to many nations. As
populations increased, the demand for cod increased, and consequently the industry became
competitive in nature. Because of this, fishing for the Atlantic cod became commercialized, and
although nations modernized at different speeds, the goal for all was to catch more. As early as 1815,
the French used the technique of longlining. Although it was expensive because of the amount of bait
that was used, it was the first advancement from handlining and allowed for numerous fish to be
caught at once. From there, bottom dragging became popular and although it was an effective method
of catching a lot of cod at once, it was also damaging to other fish that got caught in the net. In
addition to improved techniques, curing methods advanced and freezing methods were developed.
Technology advancements included the chronometer and telegraph which both improved navigation,
and sonors and spotter aircraft aided in spotting cod schools. Fishing boats advanced from oars and
sails to steam powered to motorships. All of these advancements aided in the overfishing, and
consequently became a hazard. Scientists argue that you can t predict nature and there is no way to tell
if and when, as well as, how long it will take to replenish the codstock. For this reason, I suggest
overfishing to be a hazard. The depletion of cod has

Drowning in a Sea of Avoidance
Drowning in a sea of avoidance, I needed to save myself from this repetitive behavior that was
tarnishing my social bonds. In the past I was afraid of rejection or criticism in everyway imaginable. I
kept myself from relationships due to my own insecurities, which stemmed from my lack of self
confidents. To confine in a person one must be wiling to show their most vulnerable side, and not
doing so made me have unhealthy relationships with the people around me. Causing me to portray a
false image of myself to escape what others thought of me. These fears and insecurities had leaded me
into a downward spiral of pushing people away.
At a point in life we all suffer from some type of psychological frailty, not everyone is capable of
finding their own way out of darkness that has been created by insecurities. The book Love s
Executioner by Irvin D Yalom, gives insight on those who dealt with conflicts that ultimately
diminished their self esteem. Something good happened and she felt great, one criticism from
someone and she was down for days. It was like trying to keep your house heated with a furnace
thermostat placed to close to the window (Yalom, 221). This was a compelling piece to me because it
unmasked the exact issue of needing justification from others to feel good about myself. Having
control over something that can completely shift your sense of self is necessary to break the cycle of a
deranged notion of self esteem. Everyone has been critiqued at one time or

Relationship Between Adulthood And Late Adulthood
Journal #8: Relationships Young Adulthood to Late Adulthood During early adulthood ages twenty to
forty, people enter the achieving stage according to the developmental psychologist K. Warner Shaie.
In this stage young adults begin to be more focused on making decisions on what to do for the rest of
their lives and whom to form relationships with. These decisions will soon make up the core of their
happiness throughout adulthood. According to the psychologist Erik Erikson, this challenge of
forming relationships is called the intimacy versus isolation stage. Those who are successful in the
stage have no problem in forming intimate relationships and are willing to sacrifice for others. Those
who have a hard time often result to loneliness with a growing fear of relationships. This could be a
result of failure to form an identity for oneself in Erikson s previous stage of identity versus confusion.
In psychologist Bernard Murstein s stimulus value role theory, people attempt to form close
relationships through three stages stimulus, value, and the role stage; hints the name. In the stimulus
stage relationships are built mainly on physical attraction. If a person looks appealing you might want
to go out of your way to strike up a conversation with that person. In the value stage you start to find
out what things you both have in common in values and beliefs; this usually happens in the second to
seventh contact with one another. Lastly in the role stage the

Causes And Failures Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a set of wars between the Catholic Church and Muslims. These wars lasted from
1096 A.D. to 1291. The Crusades are known as successful failures because two of the nine crusades
were successful, the First and Third. On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II called for a crusade to
help the Byzantine s take back the city of Jerusalem. The First Crusade was led by Raymond of Saint
Gilles, Godfrey of Bouillon, Hugh of Vermandois, and Bohemond of Taranto. From 1096 to 1099, the
Catholics took back Nicea, Jerusalem, Antioch, Edessa, and Tripoli from the Turks. The First Crusade
s goal was to take back the Holy Lands, especially the city of Nicea. The city of Nicea, now modern
day Iznik, Turkey, is fifty five miles, southeast of Constantinople, where the Crusaders are coming
from. After months of fighting, the Seljuk Turks surrendered against the Crusaders, giving Nicea back
to the Catholic Church. After several weeks of war and conflict, Christian knights began to massacre
Jerusalem s Jewish and Muslim population. Christian knights were getting payback for the persecution
of the Christians from the Islamic law. Crusaders split the city of Jerusalem into four small states,
which were called the crusader states . By 1187, the Muslims took over Jerusalem once again, under
their leader, Salah al Din. Though the Muslims took Jerusalem back, the First Crusade was the closest
they saw to success. After conquering Jerusalem faster than expected, many of the

  • 3. Describe The Effects Of Humiliation In Society A woman outcasted for her sin in a puritan society. A woman ridiculed for what actions she took with a high ranking official. A woman threatened for what controversy she said. All of the following people have been exposed to some form of public humiliation, public humiliation has long been outlived from its more primitive origin. However, the act of public shaming has evolved along with our technology to deepen the pain on the victim. However the areas of their lives that are affected have stayed the same and rather just the way of shaming the victim has changed The following texts describe the effect of humiliation on a person, The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Price of Shame by Monica Lewinsky, and Is the Internet a Mob Without Consequence? by Nick Bolton. Public humiliation has always affected the culprit s personal, social, and personal lives. The impact of humiliation on someone s social, professional lives is that the humiliated person will be an outcast in society, humiliation will ruin their chances of attaining some type of profession and humiliation will distance themselves from the people in their personal lives The impact of humiliation on someone s social life is that they will become an outcast in society. • 4. Term Structure of Interest Rate WITH REFERENCE TO THE UK EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF THE TERM STRUCTURE OF INTEREST? WHAT INFLUENCE DOES THE BANK OF ENGLAND HAVE OVER THE TERM STRUCTURE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR MONETARY POLICY To understand the term structure of interest rate we need to elaborate how interest rates function and how they are determined. Interest rates are a vital tool to all the macro economic policy objectives of a government such as control of inflation, investment as well as employment. Interest rates refer to the price paid by deficit agents for borrowing funds from the surplus agents. A line that plots interest rate at a set point in time is the term structure or yield curve. Interest rates which may be short term or long term are linked to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This particular curve is unusual as it is inverted. The market is anticipating a fall in rates and hence the shape of the yield curves. The sensitivity of such a curve can be explained taking into account that the change in the rates reflected is small, 0.24% over the duration of the security, 30 years. This is quite relevant when speculating on future economic conditions. (www.bankofengland.co.uk) There are three main theories which relate to yield curves. The pure expectations theory implies that forward rates are unbiased estimators of future interest rates. This theory states that the term structure of interest rates reflects the views of the market about the path of future short term interest rates. Thus when explaining a positive yield curve, the market will be expecting short term interest rates to rise in the future. The opposite applies when the curve is negative and when flat the markets expect short term interest rates to remain approximately the same. This theory generally over estimate interest rates and does not assume that investors are risk averse and want a higher return when investing. The liquidity preference theory states that bond holders are risk averse and wish to be compensated for holding the long term security by a liquidity premium. The normal yield curve to explain this should be up sloping indicating preference for liquidity by investors and lower risk of shorter term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Someone fired a shot turning the march into a riot that ended with the arrest of Hitler. Seizing the opportunity, Hitler used his publicized trial to further spread the Nazi policies. During his time in prison he dictated his book Mein Kampf. From 1926 to 1928, Nazi membership doubled and the party became legitimate. Dissatisfied with the imposed Weimer Republic, the people were eager to accept something new. Far from the evil dictatorship the Third Reich became, the German people expected an authoritarian regime like Mussolini s in Italy (Inside bunker). To them, Italy appeared to be running smoothly and happily. Until the American stock market crash in 1929, the Nazis held little control. America who previously sent aid to Germany through loans could no longer provide and called for the loans returned. Still an economically unstable nation, the retraction of the American money forced banks to close and severe inflation. With millions out of work and dying of malnutrition, the people turned away from their powerless government and to a party that promised change. The Nazi Party provided solutions to the unemployment problems the nation faced. They promised work and food for the people of Germany, a promise actually fulfilled. • 6. Immature Mechanisms In Middle Adulthood Cultural fiction Cultural fiction posits that ideas about middle adulthood are created by cultures. Different cultures have varying views in the ways they recognize and understand middle adulthood (Hutchison, 2015). In the United States, middle adulthood is often viewed through 2 cultural lenses. The first sees mid life as a positive time in which an individual has accrued resources and coping mechanisms. The second view of middle adulthood is a negative over the hill perspective, in which this stage is viewed as a time of loss and decline (Hutchison, 2015). These differing views of losses and gains in middle adulthood can be seen in the dynamic between Harvey Milk, and his adversary (and murderer) Dan White. Harvey, throughout the film, accumulates as many resources as he can and makes strides in his cause to gain justice for the gay community. Middle adulthood, for Milk, was truly the prime of his life. His political opponent, Dan White, however, experienced a series of losses, including his job and his political influence, which led him to become depressed and volcanically angry. White s view of this time in his life was likely far more negative than Harvey s. • 8. The Celebration Of Carnival In Twelfth Night And Paradise... Carnival in history is a grand celebration that most normal people today in Louisiana would have called Mardi Gras. The grand festival of Carnival is famously known for critiquing numerous social, gender, political, and religious norms during the Renaissance. William Shakespeare s play about cross dressing Twelfth Night and John Milton s religious fictional Paradise Lost utilize the festivities and the enjoyment of traditional festivities carnival ideas like Viola s and Satan s disguises; role reversals of Olivia, Satan, and Eve; excess food eaten by Sir Toby and Eve; madness in terms of Twelfth Night s craziness and Satan s wrath; and violence in terms of physical and psychological. Twelfth Night s name itself is a clear reference to the famous Christian celebration of the Epiphany, which closely represents the twelfth night of Christmas and the beginning of the celebration of Carnival which often has partaken in wearing disguises and societal role reversals. The religious celebration of the Epiphany is also the point in historical religious history where the three wise men or magi respectfully brought the three gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the recently born Jesus Christ of Nazareth. In terms of disguise, Viola skillfully and dutifully disguises herself as Cesario in order to safely find her long lost brother Sebastian who she sadly and quickly presumes is dead. Factors Influencing The International Students Factors influencing the international students to choose the United States as their higher study destination Prejin Kumar Pradeep Kumar Husson University Abstract The United States hosts more of the world s 4.5 million global mobile college and university students than any other country in the world, with almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country. However, little research has done on various components that influenced a student to choose a country for higher education. In this investigation, I consider a survey approach on students in selected countries about their preferred study destinations, their reasons for studying internationally, their main sources of information on overseas study and their opinions of the U.S. as a potential study destination compared to other key host destinations. Specifically, the quality of education and research opportunities are the two major factors that students consider before choosing the United States as their study destination. The Green Berets And Apocalypse Now This paper will be discussing the two movies The Green Berets (1968) and Apocalypse Now (1978), and argue how The Green Berets is a propagandist pro war film depicting the unrealities of the Vietnam War while Apocalypse Now is an ambiguous anti war film that shows the social and political absurdities of the Vietnam War. The Green Berets is would be classified as a pro war film depicted in favor of the American troops. The Green Berets, contrasts the harshness and brutality of the Vietcong with the generosity and inherently good nature of the Americans in treatment od child, women and men. On the other hand, Apocalypse Now may be categorized as both a pro war movie and an anti war movie because the film both reveals and conceals political and national ambivalence towards the Vietnam War. Therefore this film is not overtly antiwar, but it takes pains to reveal the atrocities of a war fought by America in the name of democracy and freedom. For example, in the air strike, sampan, and bridge scenes, the film clearly depicts the death and destruction that result directly from U.S. involvement; instead of helping innocent civilians, American troops kill them. They are strangers in a strange land, yet they act as if they own it, staking out territory and firing without provocation. • 14. The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the basis that they perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner. Sin covers a wide range of behaviors; but if these behaviors become habits are they still sins? Augustine seemed to believe that sins, whether small or large, are committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin, Aristotle frequented the discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the middle ground. As he said, We assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best actions concerning pleasures and pains, and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p. 21, lines 28 29). He taught moral vice as different from vice, and having a direct correlation with incontinence. A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire for bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of incontinence is explored by Dante in Inferno and Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and Augustine in his Confessions in the form of lust, a topic that will be later expanded on. Incontinence is a lack of self control, something man either has a predisposing for or not; to be incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection between moral vice and the Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings of Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions and acts of both Christian sin and moral vice are explored in an attempt to ... Anton Steenwijk cannot be a whole, complete person until the symbolons come together. So, why didn t the author allow this? Before we are given a name or our gender has been identified, we are valued. As children, we are taught that we are valuable and that life is valuable. However, what makes human life valuable? The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two people; a fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief about the value of life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our mistakes to our strengths, we are all valuable. There is a picture of me in my childhood photo album, where I am sitting in a wagon surrounded by books. Although I do not remember this moment, I can tell you exactly what I was doing: I was examining the pictures of the book and making my own story. The Death Penalty Should Be An Option When presented with a heinous crime, the question of whether the death penalty should be an option has often sparked heated debates between left wing liberals and right wing conservatives. Those on the left would most likely argue that capital punishment does not serve any beneficial purpose in our society. In contrast, conservatives, provided that they have no religious motives to oppose the death penalty, would likely argue that it is a necessary punishment for heinous crimes. For thousands of years the death penalty has been used as the ultimate form of punishment for a vast number of crimes and in even more numerous methods. Babylon s King Hammurabi identified 25 different crimes that justified the death penalty; the list did not however include murder. Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have different outcomes depending on the situation. This unit was practicing improper procedures for their soldiers were drinking, doing drugs, and visiting local brothels. From a tactical stand point the 48th infantry was no better in this aspect either. The patrols they conducted were inadequate and performed far from often. The area supposed to be under their control became dangerous because the insurgents moving in the area were virtually unchallenged. This was no feat for the 101st and 1st platoon because the 101st is a tactically sound unit that could establish control and a presence in the area but for soldiers that had to do so upon arrival when it was supposed to be maintained is not necessarily a good thing. The company commander of bravo, Cpt. Goodwin decided the best way to take back control of their area of operations is to have a three station cycle for his company. Each platoon would have a twenty one day rotation at a different location carrying out a different task. The three tasks were to set up TCP on a main roads, set up a FOB and be the quick reaction force for the other platoons, and the third task was to patrol the city as per guidance from higher. The least liked job was manning the TCP s. The soldiers did not like this job because they knew soldiers sitting in the open made for easy targets. Stonewall is a detailed and complete explanation of how and why things boiled over to begin the United State s battle for LGBTQ+ rights, making it an optimal contender on the list of things to use to expand one s knowledge and respect for the community and it s history. Audience: Carter s general intended audience is the entirety of both the LGBTQ+ community and their trusted allies. More specifically, he targets those who want to be educated on, and celebrate, the place and the people that were involved in, as Carter himself phrases it, the dawn of the LGBT movement. Purpose: David Carter wrote Stonewall to function as a complete analyzation of the riots of 1969. He wanted to create a reliable source of education over the what, when, where, why, how? of Stonewall. To support this, Carter states in his prologue, how these various strands [of homophobic events] eventually came together to create a turning point for the gay rights movement is the subject of this history (2). The Consequentialist theory of Ethical Egoism sets out to prove that the morally right action is one that aims to maximise one s own self interest. The moral theory runs on the premise that the principle of self interest accounts for all one s moral obligations, therefore one ought to act in their own self interest. This essay will provide three arguments for Ethical Egoism, and argue that they do not succeed in proving Ethical Egoism is sufficiently coherent and consistent when applied as a moral theory everyone should follow in the real world. The three arguments for Ethical Egoism discussed are: 1) Altruism is self defeating; 2) Ethical Egoism as the moral theory of a rational agent; 3) Ethical Egoism is compatible with common sense morality ... EE presents us a world in which the self interests of those who are more powerful than others will prevail at the expense of those who hold less power in society. The Ethical Egoist may reject the charges that it is self defeating and contradictory by contending that firstly; Ethical Egoism argues for self interest in the long run (Shaver). The morally right action will be one that truly benefits the agent in the long run. Violating the speed limit, or harming others for short term gain would be detrimental to one s long term benefit. EE as long run theory enables an ethical framework to be logically extrapolated from EE that will be discussed in this essay s second argument (Moseley). The second argument discussed in this essay, laid out by Ayn Rand, argues that an action is rational only if it maximises self interest (Moseley). Therefore, if we value rationality, we ought to act in our own self interest. The reasoning follows that if we value the life of the individual, the agent should always be the one to benefit from their own actions, so the agent must act in their own true self interest. The ability to act in one s own true self interest in the long run requires a commitment to reason rather than feelings. They also state that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Those are significant numbers that should make us very much aware of the monumental impact organ donation can have on the lives of so many critically ill patients and their families. Although the tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient who cannot be saved. There are two sources for donor organs. The first source removes organs from recently deceased people. These organs are called cadaveric organs. A person becomes a cadaveric organ donor by indicating that they would like to be an organ donor when they die. This decision is usually noted either on a driver s license or on a health care directive. (Ethics of Organ Transplantation, 2004) The second source for donor organs is a living person. They are participating in the Sentinel Fishery which was an attempt to help scientists and fishermen work together to measure the supply of cod. As outlined in this assignment, a hazard is defined as an object, condition, or process that threatens individuals and society in terms of production or reproduction. I would like to suggest that the process of overfishing is a hazard that this book unfolds throughout history. Overfishing is simply when cod are caught at a faster rate than they can naturally reproduce. The author suggests that man is part of the natural world and the two can t separate themselves, and in this case the activity of overfishing is driven by man. Cod provided a source of protein and a financial stability to many nations. As populations increased, the demand for cod increased, and consequently the industry became competitive in nature. Because of this, fishing for the Atlantic cod became commercialized, and although nations modernized at different speeds, the goal for all was to catch more. As early as 1815, the French used the technique of longlining. Although it was expensive because of the amount of bait that was used, it was the first advancement from handlining and allowed for numerous fish to be caught at once. From there, bottom dragging became popular and although it was an effective method of catching a lot of cod at once, it was also damaging to other fish that got caught in the net. In addition to improved techniques, curing methods advanced and freezing methods were developed. Technology advancements included the chronometer and telegraph which both improved navigation, and sonors and spotter aircraft aided in spotting cod schools. Fishing boats advanced from oars and sails to steam powered to motorships. All of these advancements aided in the overfishing, and consequently became a hazard. Scientists argue that you can t predict nature and there is no way to tell if and when, as well as, how long it will take to replenish the codstock. For this reason, I suggest overfishing to be a hazard. The depletion of cod has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Relationship Between Adulthood And Late Adulthood Journal #8: Relationships Young Adulthood to Late Adulthood During early adulthood ages twenty to forty, people enter the achieving stage according to the developmental psychologist K. Warner Shaie. In this stage young adults begin to be more focused on making decisions on what to do for the rest of their lives and whom to form relationships with. These decisions will soon make up the core of their happiness throughout adulthood. According to the psychologist Erik Erikson, this challenge of forming relationships is called the intimacy versus isolation stage. Those who are successful in the stage have no problem in forming intimate relationships and are willing to sacrifice for others. Those who have a hard time often result to loneliness with a growing fear of relationships. This could be a result of failure to form an identity for oneself in Erikson s previous stage of identity versus confusion. In psychologist Bernard Murstein s stimulus value role theory, people attempt to form close relationships through three stages stimulus, value, and the role stage; hints the name. In the stimulus stage relationships are built mainly on physical attraction. If a person looks appealing you might want to go out of your way to strike up a conversation with that person. On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II called for a crusade to help the Byzantine s take back the city of Jerusalem. The First Crusade was led by Raymond of Saint Gilles, Godfrey of Bouillon, Hugh of Vermandois, and Bohemond of Taranto.
