The Role Of Quentin Tarantino In Pulp Fiction
Today in an era of action movies with tons of CGI explosions and simple cheesy dialogue, there are
very few directors who have their own signature style of filmmaking. Quentin Tarantino is one of the
world s most known directors. Each of his films is highly anticipated, as he draws upon the subjects
and themes of previous films to produce a fresh storyline (Quentin Tarantino: The Cinematic
Mastermind of the Mix and Match Genre Theculturetrip.com). His films are in my opinion, some of
the best made in the past 20 years. Many say his movies are so one of a kind that you can argue that
Tarantino has his own sub genre.
One reason why Quentin Tarantino is so respected and considered to be one of a kind is because he is
one of the few most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of his films are related to each other, set in the same universe. Fun fact: Mr. Blonde AKA Vic
Vega, the cold blooded murdering criminal from Reservoir Dogs is the brother of Marcellus Wallace s
business associate Vincent Vega from pulp fiction. Another Tarantino Easter egg is in Pulp Fiction
when Vincent Vega Takes Mia Wallace, played by Uma Thurman, out to dinner she describes the plot
of a pilot she starred in. The character she played was described as the deadliest woman in the world
with a knife; this is also the character summary of the Bride in Kill Bill who is also played by
Thurman. I also shouldn t forget to mention that Lee Donowitz from True Romance, a film written by
Tarantino, is the son of Donnie Donowitz, the Jewish American soldier known as The Bear Jew and is
highly feared by German soldiers. I will also mention that The Hateful 8 was originally supposed to be
a Post Civil War sequel to Django Unchained, but that never happened. There are no coincidences in
Tarantino s movies. Few directors have such an obsession with hiding homages to other films, plot
clues, and Easter eggs into their movies. In an interview with The Project, Tarantino stated There s the
realer than real universe, alright, and all the characters inhabit that one. But then there s this movie
universe. And so From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, they all take

Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
Point of View: The novel is narrated by Mattie Cook in the first person. She is only able to speak for
herself. The only thoughts and feelings she displays are her own and the story is set wherever she is.
Setting: The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. The epidemic hits the city in the
late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with her mother and grandfather
above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical knowledge at the time which leads to
little control over the virus. They are many africans living free in Philadelphia at the time also. There
are also many mentions of the Free African Society. The setting and plot are rather historically
accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia
in the year 1793 in August. As well as date accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the
time. This includes people like, Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington.
References to the Free African Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and
actually did help victims of the yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill.
Main Character: Matilda Cook is an adventurous and independence seeking 14 year old girl. Although
she always being pestered by her mother, Mattie loves her mother dearly and worries when her mother
does not return home after going the the Luddington s farm. Mattie struggle with

Allegory In Starship Troopers
The alien in Starship Troopers is satirically literal, and the uniformity Oates noted emphasised by a
FedNet clip showing gleeful children stomping on common cockroaches. These bugs bear no
resemblance or connection to the Arachnids, other than they are both insect species, yet are equally
demonised as part of the war effort. This can be read as an allegory, as Frank has observed, for the
tendency in official, news and fictional discourses to represent terrorists and the terror threat, as alien
and radically other. (Frank, 2011, p. 154 158) Both Jackson and Ott have connected such definitional
issues to violence and power, as Ott states, Language homogenizes them, reinforcing the prevailing
perception that they are all the same and can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Oates, 20 p. 135) Likewise, Nacos criticised the media for failing to scrutinise governments or
present non violent options for public debate instead favouring official discourse by focusing on
counterterrorism and military action. She notes, All Americans would have benefited from
comprehensive, balanced, probing reporting and editorializing allowing them to make well informed
decisions.... such as the question of whether to torture known and suspected terrorists (Nacos, 2007,
p172) In a subsequent study, Nacos also observed the mass media were reluctant to label the abuse
and degradation at Abu Ghraib as torture, once there was evidence of such, instead choosing other
terms such as alleged abuse and mistreatment. (Nacos, 2011, pp. 289 290) Jamail furthered this
observation, stating, The media try hard to place the spotlight on a minor issue thereby attempting to
obfuscate the larger violation. This was clearly visible in the case of the Abu Ghraib reports. (Jamail,
2012, p. 301) Oates attributes this failure to the patriotic constraint experienced by the media post 9/11
which limited acceptable debate and challenge . (Oates, 2008, p.40) However, in the aftermath of Abu
Ghraib, Nacos subsequently found that media practices had altered, exemplified by ample coverage
and scrutiny being provided when the Patriot Act was due to be

Symbols In We Zamyatin
In the Dystopian novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, the protagonist D 503 records his life through a
series of journal entries as he lives in a supposed utopian society called the One State, where there are
no individuals, only numbers. The novel was written after the Russian Revolution and during a time of
tumultuous political struggles. We satirized the teachings of the new Communist rulers and writers of
Russia, who worshiped the idea that humanity would function more efficiently if it were logically like
a large machine with no vagary of free will on the part of the pieces that comprise the machine,
following the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. The novel challenges a variety of ideologies, which can
be seen in the characters and in the narrative. Zamyatin utilizes characters to represent different ideas

Names hold significant meaning in this novel because, not only do they describe the characters, but
they also provide underlying meanings. The Russian letter ya is represented by a symbol that
resembles a backwards R and it translates to the English word I , the first person singular pronoun.
The use of the letter I , both in Russian and English, suggests an impermissible individualism. These
two characters were the only ones in the novel to display individualism in the novel and a rejection,
blatantly or not, towards the One State through the refusal of norms or through creativity. Zamyatin
also utilizes modernist color symbolism in his novel as a way of characterization. For example, the
character I 330 is associated with the colors of a bee. Color conveys meanings in two primary ways
natural associations and psychological symbolism. The colors associated with bees are yellow and
black; yellow is often associated with joy, happiness, and intellect, instability, and mental illness.
These traits do describe her character: she finds more joy in the activities and objects of early people,
such as smoking, and she

Donald Trump Pop Culture
In modern life, news outlets distribute satire and caricatures of government institutions and its leaders
to the public via numerous social media platforms, television, and magazines with little to no
repercussion. Currently, the most famous political figure satirized in the media is the forty fifth
President of the United States, Donald Trump. Harshly criticized for his politics, pseudo
professionalism, and demeanor, the President brandishes the reports and depictions of his misdoing as
fake news . Protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution, the citizens and press are at liberty
to represent the United States President as a little handed, orange colored man with an
overexaggerated combover (Figure 1). Indeed, Donald Trump is neither ... Show more content on

Louis Phillipe, born under the Old Regime in 1773, is the only French monarch to come to power as a
result of a political uprising against his predecessor Although the cousin of the Bourbon monarch,
King Louis XVI, Louis Phillipe the son of Duc d Orléans, was raised with liberal and Enlightenment
ideologies. With his family heavily involved in the early stages of the French Revolution of 1789,
Louis Phillipe served as an officer in the military. Although unsettled by the Revolutionary leadership
voting for regicide, he remained faithful to the army, until the outbreak of the Reign of Terror in 1793.
Upon fleeing France, Louis Phillipe s father denounced his son s actions. However, the Duc was later
arrested and guillotined for he was still tainted by association with his son and nephew, King Louis
XVI. During his twenty two year exile, Louis Phillipe travelled throughout Europe, the United States,
and the Caribbean only returning to France after the Bourbon Restoration and the establishment of the
constitutional monarchy of Louis XVIII in 1814. During his exile, he reconciled with the royal family
and returned with a new wife. After the death of Louis XVII, Charles X succeeded the throne. During
his five year reign, Charles X returned the country to a traditional absolutist monarchy. Although

The Matchmaker Analysis
The golden age of the big budget musical may remain lost to the annals of old Hollywood, some may
argue that classics will always be better than their reimagined counterparts, but this is hardly the case
in all circumstances. The 1969 big screen adaptation of Hello, Dolly! proves that sometimes the
original star power of a cast can be overridden decades later. The 2017 Broadway revival of Hello
Dolly! supports the idea that while people may become accustomed to hearing a song a certain way, a
new interpretation of the materials can lead to blockbuster success. Despite the glitter and grandeur of
the on screen film adaptation s costuming and set design, the 2017 iteration of the musical, based on
Thornton Wilder s play The Matchmaker, shows that big budgets and sweeping landscapes are not
needed; opting to go with garishly bright pastels and impeccable choreography to stir the imaginations
and win the hearts of millions of theatergoers.
Starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau, the 1969 film certainly attempted to bring the star
power but hostility that developed between Walter Matthau and Barbra Streisand (TCM) turned into
anything but a love story when presented on the big screen. Both actors shared a mutual dislike that
caused a very clear disconnect onset, where Matthau refused to be in the same room as Streisand
unless they were filming (TCM). In front of the camera, Mathau comes across as a crass old
businessman who cares for no one but himself, while

Stephen Hawking s Death Of The Greatest Scientist
Imagine if you could only move your left hand an inch or so, and the rest of your body was completely
paralyzed. You can t talk, and you can hardly move. This disease is called amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis, Lou Gehrig s disease, or ALS and this is what Stephen Hawking has. Despite the fact that he
is handicapped, he has managed to become one of the greatest scientists ever.
Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo Galilei) in
Oxford, England. As a kid, he was fascinated with the idea of an ever growing universe that he lives
in, and would occasionally lie on his front lawn, with his family, observing the sky and taking turns
looking through a telescope at the stars. On one quiet, dark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His great abilities in physics were weakened by his poor study habits. After his final exam, Stephen
was on the line between first and second honors. To determine his degree, the professors decided to
give him an oral exam. He passed the test with excellence, and therefore, went on to Cambridge.
At Cambridge University, he was going to study cosmetology, a branch of physics. Fortunately for
him he decided to study theoretical physics, not experimental physics where he would have had to set
up many experiments, which he could not have done after he got ALS.
By now, Stephen had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS slowly destroys the
nerves in the brain and spine. ALS victims usually die within 2 5 years because it destroys the muscles
used for breathing which leads to suffocation.
When he was diagnosed with ALS, he pretty much gave up his life. After he did not die after two
years, he realized he could go on with ALS and his study of cosmetology. Although he was weak, he
could still walk. After those 2 years, he decided he could not waste any time, there were things he
wanted to do in his life. Hawking wanted to get married and get a Ph.D. So he was engaged to Jane
Wilde in 1965. Hawking said, It [getting married to her] made me determined to live, to go on. Jane
really gave me the will to live. Then he got his Ph.D. and started to work at Cambridge. He was now
officially known as Professor Dr. Stephen William Hawking. His health

Políticas sociales como la contratación obligatoria del personal subcontratado o la prohibición al

Imprisoned by My Fear of Reading
There it was sitting, on my desk. Everytime I looked down, I would get frightened just by its presence.
My face would turn bright red and my dry throat would anxiously swallow so loud that I clearly could
hear it sitting at my desk. Remembering the story that I read the night before was almost unattainable
for me. Understanding the large vocabulary and heavy wording of each question was nearly
impossible for me to understand, similar to communicating with an illiterate foreigner in English.
Often, randomly circling answers and guessing would be my last resort to a successful completion of
the test, while hoping for a presentable grade. Reading comprehension has always been one my
weaknesses ever since the first day I picked up a book. This weakness was not one that I could easily
overlook and with each new day, it brought upon a new level of embarrassment as I sat in school
envious of my classmates. If I were to describe myself in two words, I would choose the words
passionate and determined. However, I did not develop this personality until my last year in
elementary school. All throughout elementary school, I struggled in numerous subjects, especially in
reading and grammar. In fact, I was one of the weakest students in the class. I was always below my
grade s required reading level and while majority of my peers were ahead and always looking for
books in higher reading level shelves, I would always be found in the opposite side of the school
library where they kept the

Philippines Imperialism
Imperialism is when one powerful nation dominates a weaker nation. Nations should not imperialize
others and they are many reasons why, that are shown in history. The first reason is imperialism causes
a hostile environment between the nation imperializing and the nation being imperialized. Next, the
negative outcomes outweigh the positive. In other words, when there is little good that comes out of
expanding one nation, why would a nation take that risk? Lastly, Ethnocentrism is one of the effects of
imperialism. Ethnocentrism is judging another culture based on the standards of their own culture.
There are so many cultures coexisting so how can nations tell cultures that their belief is wrong and
should practice their culture. Imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethnocentrism is judging distant cultures based on the standards of your own. Imperialist nations
believe that they are superior races and culture. The White Man s Burden provides more insight on the
perspective of those imperialist nations ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S.
Imperialism ). To serve your captives need; to wait in heavy harness, on fluttered folk and wild your
new caught, sullen peoples, half devil and half child said Kipling ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling
s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). This quote means it is believed that the white man s burden or
responsibility is to imperialize, civilize, and Christianize these other nations. For instance, African
American were seen as the unfit and they needed to be civilized. Racism is when races are considered
inferior to another race because of assumptions made. When you consider another race unfit, you are
basing it off your own culture s differences therefore creating racism (Rashid, Aatif). Furthermore
inequality is caused by those superior nations . These superior nations put themselves on a high
pedestal resulting in the belief they are better than anyone else. Ethnocentrism is cause by imperialism
and can sometimes be the motivation behind imperialism. Inequality is then an effect of those nations
or races that believe they are better than

Attraction Research Paper
When you are attracted to someone you believe that it is because you think they caught your eye or
how charming they are, but there is a science that gives the deeper reasoning to why you are attracted
to someone. Smell, fertility, masculinity, and the golden ratio are all factors in attraction. Science has
affected who our ancestors chose for mates and now it is affecting us.
Smell? Yes, smell is actually a big factor in mating. Pheromones are a type of scent bearing chemical
secreted in sweat and other bodily fluids. A type of pheromone called a releaser includes the
compounds androstenone, androstadienone and androstenol and may be involved in attraction. In one

Yes, math. It is proven that humans are more attracted to other humans if their bodies and faces are
more proportional. What determines if humans are in proportion is the Golden Ratio. The Golden
Ratio originates from Greece and is based on Fibonacci Numbers created by Leonardo Fibonacci in
1200 AD, which is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two numbers before it ,
for example 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 and so on. If you divide every number by the one in front of it you
get decimals that are very close to each other for example: 1.60, 1.61, 1.62. This is where we get Phi
from (1.6180339887) . The Golden Ratio is 1:1.6180339887. It wasn t until the 1900 s that American
mathematician Mark Barr used the Greek letter phi (Φ) for this proportion.
Artists also use the golden ratio to make paintings. Leonardo Da Vinci created many drawings that
revolved around the Golden Ratio. His drawings consist of a circle, a square, and the length from
navel to head and navel to the foot. The golden ratio doesn t only exist in humans, but also Architects
throughout history have used this ratio to make buildings. Pyramids, The Parthenon, and Notre Dame
in Paris are all made with the golden ratio. We also see this in nature in tree branches, shells, and

Keep It Simple Stupid Research Paper
KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID An article by Amy Rees Anderson in Forbes magazine dated February 27,
2014 reminded me that those who can make things or life simple from a complicated ones are the real
genius. Being simple one s connotate being stupid but not anymore. If you have the ability to make
life as simple despite the complexities surrounding you, then you are smarter than the others who
maintain a complicated life. For instance, if one can explain something too technical to somebody who
is not of the same profession as you are, in a manner that the other person can easily understand takes
a skill and an intelligence and creativity to be able to empathize with the others and see from his point
of view what he needs to understand. Our life is getting more complicated as the world becomes more

simpler. Keep it simple stupid which acronym is KISS is a design principle first coined by aircraft

spy planes. The principle refers to a fact that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather
than made complicated. This life is not meant to be complicated but it is man who is making it such.
Whether at work or at home one should make a determined effort to make it as simple as possible.

A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips of
metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements from
different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary engravings
and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate because from 1530
up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique to create illustrated
material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type of design into a plate
made of copper. He meant this typeface to be used by Linotype machines for the production of
newspapers and many other types of printing and so it has AB and BC designations to help distinguish
the difference between the capital letters and the small caps. It also has a numbering system that tells
us the difference in weight and width of the typeface. The Copperplate typeface was first released by
Goudy as a font family which contained many weights and variations. It was designed in all caps and
small caps because it was meant to be used for headlines and header design, also for stationary and
society printing. Copperplate typeface imitates lapidary inscriptions, this is why it is categorized as a
glyphic typeface. Another characteristic of glyphic typefaces is that the contrast of the stroke weight in
a character is minimum and we can observe this in all the

Summary Of Mind Over Money
Raniel Gernale
Finance Documentary Review
The documentary, Mind Over Money, discusses the impact of emotions on financial decisions. Our
behavior is bizarre when it comes to money. This video clearly shows this effect in its first example.
When a 20 dollar bill was auctioned off, two buyers paid over the bill s value. People do not use the
information they should not be using, but use other information that is said to be crazy to use. The
University of Chicago has given rise to the most Nobel prize winners in economics in the world. Here,

This is also definitely seen in traders, as some just seem like they know what they are doing.
Relating back to the 20 dollar bill auction, behavior and psychology play a major role. One should not
pay more than 20 dollars. This is due to the emotional desire to win that drives bids up, and the fear of
being a loser that drives them even higher. Another experiment that related this theory was a bid over a

woman who was deported was asked the following question, how many feet does a horse have . The
woman was so confused by the question that she thought they were tricking her, and was deported for
not being able to answer this question. Different immigrants had a different view about Ellis Island.
Some saw it as a police station and others saw it as a palace. One woman stated that there is one thing

With the above considerations in mind, a total wattage of between 15,000 and 17,000 watts is
desirable, as this will provide enough headroom for a quality audio performance along with a suitable
volume level for all audience members.
Requirement:
15000watts/2000people = 7.5watts per person
In addition, it is also paramount for the audio quality to be consistently audible for all members of the
audience. This will be achieved by utilising a system design configuration that focus on clarity and
direction whilst also rendering itself sympathetic to the sensitive ears of the general public not
attending the event.
The System
With a desired total power being between 15,000 and 17,000 Watts, the (PA) system consists of the
following: * J8 Loudspeaker (D amp;B Audiotechnik, 2010) * Q1 Loudspeaker (D amp;B

The proposed Digital Line Array configuration will be flown ; suspended 6+meters above ground.
These DVA s will be located on both sides of the stage. The 4 JSub Subwoofers will be equally spaced
along the length of the stage, 2 Jsubs will sit atop the DVA, 2 will sit on the ground as to maximise the

God In The Code Of Gilgamesh And The Hebrew Bible
God in The Hebrew Bible is quite difficult to span, often being quite incongruous in nature, as there
are ...odd contradictions and repetitions in the narrative... (The Hebrew Bible 151) especially in
relation to God. However, God is quite similar to the gods from The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Code
of Hammurabi as ...like the humans made in his image... [he is] ... willing to scheme and make deals...
(153). Specifically, in relation to The Code of Hammurabi, ...Moses goes to hear the word of God...
and the Ten Commandments are revealed to him (155), these commandments are ...rules of ethical and
religious conduct (155). The Ten Commandments, God s words, seem to be inspired, at least in part,
by Hammurabi s code, as they both seem to try to ...further the well being of mankind (The Code of
Hammurabi 1). Not only are God s words reminiscent of that of the deities in The Code of Hammurabi
and The Epic of Gilgamesh, God is also destructive in many ways, even excluding the great flood that
appears in both The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible. God creates the serpent...most cunning
of all the beasts of the field... (The Hebrew Bible 160). The Hebrew Bible is riddled with common
themes and tropes. The broadest theme presented throughout the text is the role God plays in shaping
human lives... (152) and the resultant of the actions God takes as being the lesson. However, the role
God plays is not static, often the ...relation between human behavior and divine favor... (152) shifts

Free Speech And Religious Freedom
One important contemporary issue is fighting for human rights. People all over the world fight and
stand up for what they believe in. One of those includes your rights. Rights can be verbal, or oral, but
it is important for everyone who think of it as a necessity. I am in favor of people who stand up for
themselves and sacrifice their lives to get their point across. At the start of 2016, authorities increased
restrictions on civil society groups critical of the government , so they used overboard sedition,
criminal defamation and hate speech laws to harass minorities views (Human Rights Watch : India
Today). Free Speech and Religious Freedom is important to Hindu Minorities and the government
should have no objection towards the sacrifice and fighting spirit these people have to get their point
across, so going against their act of civil disobedience will only cause further complications.
Earlier in the year, there was a big incident in Tamil Nadu. A priest was practicing religion in the
church, two muslims were spreading notices to people on the streets to come pray for Allah and for the
well being of all Muslims. The Catholic priest and the Muslim priests were getting into a car and as
that happened, they were pulled out by a mob of 30 radicals against the freedom of religion. As a
result, all three priests were beaten almost to death and dragged on the streets, blood oozing out of
their body for about a mile and a half. What s ironic is that there were police

John Davis Life Extension Essay
In Is It Unjust to Develop Life Extension if It Will Not Be Possible to Provide It to Everyone? , John
Davis argues on the fact on whether or not we should develop life extension if it won t bet fairly
distributed amongst our society. Davis believes that the rich will most likely have access to life
extension before the poor, which creates the issue of unequal access to life extension. In this essay, I
will be siding with Davis argument, as there should be no reason to develop and research life
extension if we cannot make it available to everyone at once.
John Davis believes that life extension would be too expensive to those who cannot afford it when it
comes to repayment. In addition, Davis also states that being excluded from life extension ... Show

In this case, I would have to stand with Davis support in delaying life extension, as it will take a long
period of time to develop and allocate life extension around the world equally. Being able to take
advantage of life extension would lead us into to the inability to repay the efforts that were put into
researching and developing life extension. For example, if we were able to take out a loan for life
extension, then the time in life we have to repay for life extension would also increase. Life extension
would also worsen our death, then it would better our death, as we are harmed comparatively on
impending death. When you anticipate your future death to be in your early nineties, it may not sound
as bad when there is no life extension available, but when you see a wealthy person live into their
hundreds with life extension, it will make your death sound worse off if you died in your nineties. We
have to delay the development and access to life extension until we can find a way to distribute life
extension evenly between the have and have nots in our society. For example, the cost of technology
in our world becomes cheaper overtime when there are competitors who developing the same

Soul Music Research Paper
One of the greatest contributions to our country s music industry was the creation of Soul music. Soul
music traces its roots back to African American gospel music. In 1865, slavery had ended but African
Americans were still not welcomed in churches that were for white Americans (Errey, n.d). Because of
this, African American built churches and within those churches they sang Christian songs with their
specific culture rhythms and vocal styles (Errey, n.d). These gospel songs had both a fast up beat
tempo which they would move to the beat and clap their hands and slower tempo songs in which was
a way to express their deep devotion to God. These two styles of gospel music eventually lead to the
two distinct styles of Soul music (Errey, n.d). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

evolving, famous artist such as Aretha Franklin helped bring female gospel styles to soul music as her
single When a Man Loves a Woman became one of the top selling soul records ever sold (Errey, n.d).
African American culture within Soul music has been very influential in the creation of many genres
we see today. Genres such as funk, hip hop and contemporary R B were all influenced by original soul
music (Errey, n.d.). Funk music began when artists such as James Brown and Stevie Wonder took high
beat soul music and increase the tempo creating a funky up beat style. Hip Hop Began when DJ s
began to create lyrics in which they could rap to over the beat of soul and funk music. Today, we have
seen many successful artists such as that can contribute their style from traditional soul music. In all,
soul music was the foundation to many popular genres and evolved over many years while continuing

The Importance Of Decision Making In Public Administration
Decision making is very vital in the study of administration. Decision making is the act of deciding
the best choice or alternative that brings success or advantage to a situation that will ensure maximum
benefits and least risk. Probability can be applied to decision making in public administration because
it is possible to estimate the probability of occurrence of specific events. A part of decision making in
relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The probability of you meeting those goals
depends on decision making. For example a restaurant owner has received more revenue on Thursdays
than on any other day And less Revenue on Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at
everything that could have influenced his sales. The owner realized that the only things that were
different on Thursdays than any other day was the chief special and the drink special. According to the
receipts of the last four Thursdays the probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The
probability that a customer orders the chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is
42%. This shows the restaurant owner that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both
Thursdays and Saturdays.
Effective decision making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective
decision making must be rational. As mentioned before, people who are deciding rationally are
attempting to reach goals in a systematic way. They make sure

The Use of Birds in Chronical of a Death Foretold by...
In the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, birds are used as motifs
intentionally in the imagery of scenes to convey sentiments, ideas and messages to the reader. Some of
the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife,
supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is
discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the
novella.
In literature, birds are commonly viewed as signs of freedom while in flight, yet while they are
entrapped in cages, they symbolize the struggle for freedom. Gabriel Garcia s usage of birds has both
common and uncommon roles in the novel. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago seemed happy with his father until the latter died suddenly, three years before, (Marquez 7).
In this sense, the dream about floating through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was
falling, [...] but [...] he awoke [...] spattered with bird shit, (Marquez 3) ties into Santiago s life. The
birds hold significance in this passage in the metaphor comparing bird shit to life ruining events. The
reader learns more about Santiago when the narrator reveals that Nasar gained the good arts of valor
and prudence (7) from his father and is a merry, peaceful, and openhearted (8) individual.
Furthermore, Santiago is an aggressive wealthy individual that is compared to a sparrow hawk [...] just
like his father, nipping the bud of any wayward virgin who began showing up in those woods, (90). In
the text, falcons are associated with entertainment and displaying one s status of wealth, and the
opening quote by Gil Vicente, the pursuit of love is like falconry (1) compares the persistent nature of
pursuing love to the recreational activity of hunting with falcons.
Subsequently, the reader becomes aware of Santiago s innocence and naivety. Nahir Miguel reveals to
the narrator that Santiago looked like a little wet bird, (114). Because Marquez specifically chose a

Police Power In Achieving Justice In The Law Enforcement...
The criminal justice system is effective in achieving justice, in relations to police power and authority.
Police are tasked with an essential role in protecting and enforcing the law. They are a critical aspect
towards the criminal justice system and the criminal investigation process. To assist their role to the
community, they ve been provided several types of powers and authorities to achieve their duties
towards the community. These authorised powers are used to stop, search and detain a person when
they re certain a crime is committed. Consequently, police can use this authority to potentially violate
another individuals right, such as privacy. Whilst this power allows police to fulfil their duty to the
community, is that justifiable to violate an individuals right?
Police makes the decision whether to investigate a crime based on the likelihood of success, available
resources and priorities or the severity of the offence. Police can use several methods and authorised
powers to assist their investigation. Most of NSW Police s powers are listed out in the Law
Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 (NSW). Law Enforcement (Powers and
Responsibilities) Act 2002 (NSW) is an act introduced in 2001, which outlines police powers and
authority. Main police powers in investigating crime are: arrest, search and seizure, access to
information (computerised operation policing system), interrogation and use force is necessary to

Humor In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
Similarly, Heller s use of humor to alter a reader s emotions drastically, distracts readers from his
original point. While reading Catch 22 one goes through a wide spectrum of emotions, and those
emotions can change in a matter of seconds. One example of this is when Nately s whore finds out
about Nately s death. Her angry reaction is understandable, but Heller stretches this out for quite a
while. The grieving woman is transformed through the dark humor that Heller uses so liberally, her
character is revised into a maniac, set on killing Yossarian. It is this type of nonsense that is not
needed in order for Heller to make his point. The reader understands Heller s point about grieving
after he spends seven consecutive pages describing Nately s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is perhaps his most successful use of dark humor. The maid in the lime colored panties and her
relationship with Yossarian is an example of the point Heller is trying to make. As John Muste noted,
Love is reduced to lustful sexual encounters in which women are barely human (Muste). Heller s
statement about love is truly well, and his use of dark humor is quite good. Talking about how
Yossarian would sleep with anyone, and the light hearted attitude he used when Aarfy raped the girl.
His use of humor does an exceptional job of poking fun at the state of love. Although he does a better
job in this category, winning a battle is not the same as winning a war. Heller is successful in making
his point about love but fails elsewhere within the same topic by over using dark humor. Heller s
statement about love, is lost in the web of dark jokes that Heller is constantly weaving. Instead of
coming across as a powerful statement, Heller s erotic chapters are accepted as just that. Although his
purpose is understood, Catch 22 is not a commentary on love, it is a commentary on war. In order to
be more successful, Heller should have focused on making his main point clear. This failure is to focus
on the main idea and instead look at love so deeply is perhaps why some people consider his use of
erotic material to prop up his

Thomas Tweed Space Summary
Thomas Tweed in his article Space claims that there is a deeper connection between space and religion
than meets the ordinary eye. The article examines how Christianity, Islam, and Judaism describe,
imaginatively figure, and construct Jerusalem as a religious space. According to Tweed, space, in a
religious context, is defined by three different and distinguishable characteristics: differentiated,
kinetic, and interrelated. As revealed throughout many of the books in the Hebrew Bible, Jerusalem is
one of these religious spaces that Tweed is talking about. Various Biblical texts, like Genesis 22, 2
Samuel 5 7, 1 Kings, and the Psalms reveal the city of Jerusalem, its geography, and its people s
history as being differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is differentiated, or the type of space that is defined by the lived experiences of people. These
differentiated locales are particular and special compared to other undifferentiated spaces. An example
of a differentiated space for our everyday lives is our bedroom. Our bedroom is special to us because
it holds memories or various lived experiences that just can t be recreated in another space. The next
characteristic is kinetic, or a non stagnant, always changing space that encapsulates history. There is a
direct relationship between events that take place and the time in which they take place and this
relationship creates change. A good example of a city that continued to change over the many years in
the Hebrew Bible was Jerusalem. The last characteristic of a religious space is interrelated, or a space
that is not based solely upon religion, politics, or economics, but rather is connected by all of them
working together. Tweed says, religious space can be understood as a confluence... to emphasize the
mutual inter causality of the biological and the culture and in turn acknowledge that converging
cultural steams political, social, and the economic impact religions as they emerge from the swirl of
transfluvial currents. In other words, religious space is not only affected by a specific faith, but is also
affected by specific political, economic, or social moves that take place in a given time

Astronomy Vs Astrology Research Paper
Astronomy and astrology are very similar, yet different. Astronomy is the study of the universe and
what s inside of it, as well as other universes. Astrology is the study of how the actions and
movements of things in our universe affect what happens on earth, and people. Although they both
deal with the universe and one was founded by the other, they also have many things that set them
apart from one another. This essay will talk about the differences and similarities of astronomy and
astrology and how each is used.
One of the main differences between astrology and astronomy is that astronomy is based off of
research and facts, while astrology is based on the beliefs. Founded in Babylon, astrology uses planets
and other celestial objects to try to predict the future. Astrology is not a science, it is the theorem that
everything that happens in space affects what happens to people on earth. Astrology is considered a
pseudoscience, or a belief that is not based on science or the scientific method. ... Show more content

Astronomers study the planets, stars, and other celestial objects to try to understand how the universe
works. They also study things like collisions, black holes and other things that could potentially affect

also use mathematical equations to find the positions of planets and stars in our universe. These
telescopes and satellites observe light reflected by things such as planets, meteors, or stars in space
and use it to make observations. Then the Astronomers job is to collect and analyze the data observed.
Similarities of the two are that astronomy was founded by astrology. Both relate to the sun, moon,
stars, and sometimes their actions such as orbiting. Also, they both require observations of the
universe. They will always be related because they have similar characteristics and were founded on

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia
Since the beginning of time, authors have used rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the reader of
their claims. These rhetorical strategies are used in everyday life whether people use it intentionally or
not. My purpose for writing this text is to provide you guys examples of rhetorical strategies using two
pieces of text. The first piece of text is by Edward Albee and it is titled The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia.
The text is about a family going through turmoil. Martin, a married man with a gay son, reveals that
he is in love with a goat by the name of Sylvia. His love for Sylvia ultimately ruins his relationship
with his family. The author of this book, Albee, is known for being an American playwright director.
He has written several plays about relationships and marriage. The second text is Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas, written by Hunter S. Thompson. The text was about a guy named Raoul Duke and his
attorney reporting the race during the Mint 400. Throughout the text, both men go on a drug binge and
consume countless amounts of substances. Thompson was an American journalist who traveled across

that the journalist has to be an integral part of his stories. Albee and Thompson have different views of

the poor, who is using freedom of speech, is uneducated and unable to understand knowledge itself.
Oppression of the mass is also seen in this perspective. The poor is deprived of their rights for
education. In this case, corruption and interests of the powerful could also be seen as the cause of
human rights deprivation in the Philippines. Mill s utilitarianism is again not well practiced by the
government as it hasn t been able to protect Filipino mass rights.
Even in Philippines economy, only the minority benefits from the fruits of business and production.
Economic democracy is not well implemented in the country. Economic democracy, said Mill, is
substituting capitalist businesses into workers cooperatives so that workers would have more benefits
and power for their own welfare. In Philippines status quo, the capitalist system is growing and
workers welfare is being set aside. Profits of businesses mostly go to the capitalists, while workers
earn a minimum wage and are not given benefits that workers are supposed to have. The country s
economic progress is characterized by development aggression, where only the minority benefits from

Manners Are Manners Matter
Manners Matter
People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each other, and just
walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that
there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are
usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really
frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is
becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed.
Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who
did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or
executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly,
usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought
that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the
right choice.
Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced.
They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please
suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. An individual who provided help will feel
absolutely delighted and feel that is was worthwhile to give the person the help he

Vandalization Of Graffiti
For several decades, graffiti has been a subject of great contention. Is it art that should be appreciated?
Or is it vandalism that must be condemned? Semantics aside, what can be definitively agreed upon is
that graffiti is an urban phenomenon and that its many manifestations are unique in their own ways.
The urban landscape that is the canvas for graffiti artists and taggers houses some of society s most
problematic factors, such as socioeconomic disparities, power struggles, political unrest, and a sense
of isolation. For some communities and individuals, these social stratifications and feelings of
detachment have led to their use of graffiti as an outlet to express their urban realities. To understand
the communal usages of graffiti, there must first be an understanding of which communities are
frequently using graffiti and what factors of city life are the causation. Often times when people think
of graffiti, gang graffiti is one of the first forms that come to mind. However, in order to analyze gang
graffiti, it should be questioned as to why there are even urban gangs in the first place. Many gangs
reside in impoverished inner city communities and as such they are subject to substandard housing,
poor education, high rates of substance abuse, and violent crime (Marcionis and Parillo 2013:277). In
order to cope with their troubled lives, residents of high poverty urban neighborhoods [will] by
necessity form network links to survive (212) and gangs are one of these network links. Additionally,
Marcionis and Parillo find that in lower economic communities, the collective sharing of tangibles and
non tangibles is an important coping strategy (212) in managing their disenfranchised lives, and gangs
will, at times, provide both tangible and non tangible resources via money, physical protection, shared
values, and kinship. In gangs, there is also evidence of modern gemeinschafts and mechanical
solidarities, given their provision of kinship, sharing of resources, and protection for urbanites that feel
largely marginalized by those with power (123). Like the gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities of
old, gangs are close knit communities with in group out group mentalities and are what Gans

The Practice of Code Switching
In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research
aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006)
investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to
break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by
students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching
has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book
defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other
words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one
language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different
language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within
the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating
in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session
between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is
maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature
study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with
students from

  • 2. The Role Of Quentin Tarantino In Pulp Fiction Today in an era of action movies with tons of CGI explosions and simple cheesy dialogue, there are very few directors who have their own signature style of filmmaking. Quentin Tarantino is one of the world s most known directors. Each of his films is highly anticipated, as he draws upon the subjects and themes of previous films to produce a fresh storyline (Quentin Tarantino: The Cinematic Mastermind of the Mix and Match Genre Theculturetrip.com). His films are in my opinion, some of the best made in the past 20 years. Many say his movies are so one of a kind that you can argue that Tarantino has his own sub genre. One reason why Quentin Tarantino is so respected and considered to be one of a kind is because he is one of the few most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of his films are related to each other, set in the same universe. Fun fact: Mr. Blonde AKA Vic Vega, the cold blooded murdering criminal from Reservoir Dogs is the brother of Marcellus Wallace s business associate Vincent Vega from pulp fiction. Another Tarantino Easter egg is in Pulp Fiction when Vincent Vega Takes Mia Wallace, played by Uma Thurman, out to dinner she describes the plot of a pilot she starred in. The character she played was described as the deadliest woman in the world with a knife; this is also the character summary of the Bride in Kill Bill who is also played by Thurman. I also shouldn t forget to mention that Lee Donowitz from True Romance, a film written by Tarantino, is the son of Donnie Donowitz, the Jewish American soldier known as The Bear Jew and is highly feared by German soldiers. I will also mention that The Hateful 8 was originally supposed to be a Post Civil War sequel to Django Unchained, but that never happened. There are no coincidences in Tarantino s movies. Few directors have such an obsession with hiding homages to other films, plot clues, and Easter eggs into their movies. In an interview with The Project, Tarantino stated There s the realer than real universe, alright, and all the characters inhabit that one. But then there s this movie universe. And so From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, they all take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson Point of View: The novel is narrated by Mattie Cook in the first person. She is only able to speak for herself. The only thoughts and feelings she displays are her own and the story is set wherever she is. Setting: The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. The epidemic hits the city in the late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with her mother and grandfather above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical knowledge at the time which leads to little control over the virus. They are many africans living free in Philadelphia at the time also. There are also many mentions of the Free African Society. The setting and plot are rather historically accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia in the year 1793 in August. As well as date accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the time. This includes people like, Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington. References to the Free African Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and actually did help victims of the yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill. Main Character: Matilda Cook is an adventurous and independence seeking 14 year old girl. Although she always being pestered by her mother, Mattie loves her mother dearly and worries when her mother does not return home after going the the Luddington s farm. Mattie struggle with ... Allegory In Starship Troopers The alien in Starship Troopers is satirically literal, and the uniformity Oates noted emphasised by a FedNet clip showing gleeful children stomping on common cockroaches. These bugs bear no resemblance or connection to the Arachnids, other than they are both insect species, yet are equally demonised as part of the war effort. This can be read as an allegory, as Frank has observed, for the tendency in official, news and fictional discourses to represent terrorists and the terror threat, as alien and radically other. (Frank, 2011, p. 154 158) Both Jackson and Ott have connected such definitional issues to violence and power, as Ott states, Language homogenizes them, reinforcing the prevailing perception that they are all the same and can be ... (Oates, 20 p. 135) Likewise, Nacos criticised the media for failing to scrutinise governments or present non violent options for public debate instead favouring official discourse by focusing on counterterrorism and military action. She notes, All Americans would have benefited from comprehensive, balanced, probing reporting and editorializing allowing them to make well informed decisions.... such as the question of whether to torture known and suspected terrorists (Nacos, 2007, p172) In a subsequent study, Nacos also observed the mass media were reluctant to label the abuse and degradation at Abu Ghraib as torture, once there was evidence of such, instead choosing other terms such as alleged abuse and mistreatment. (Nacos, 2011, pp. 289 290) Jamail furthered this observation, stating, The media try hard to place the spotlight on a minor issue thereby attempting to obfuscate the larger violation. This was clearly visible in the case of the Abu Ghraib reports. (Jamail, 2012, p. 301) Oates attributes this failure to the patriotic constraint experienced by the media post 9/11 which limited acceptable debate and challenge . (Oates, 2008, p.40) However, in the aftermath of Abu Ghraib, Nacos subsequently found that media practices had altered, exemplified by ample coverage and scrutiny being provided when the Patriot Act was due to be ... Symbols In We Zamyatin In the Dystopian novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, the protagonist D 503 records his life through a series of journal entries as he lives in a supposed utopian society called the One State, where there are no individuals, only numbers. The novel was written after the Russian Revolution and during a time of tumultuous political struggles. We satirized the teachings of the new Communist rulers and writers of Russia, who worshiped the idea that humanity would function more efficiently if it were logically like a large machine with no vagary of free will on the part of the pieces that comprise the machine, following the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. The novel challenges a variety of ideologies, which can be seen in the characters and in the narrative. Zamyatin utilizes characters to represent different ideas in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Names hold significant meaning in this novel because, not only do they describe the characters, but they also provide underlying meanings. The Russian letter ya is represented by a symbol that resembles a backwards R and it translates to the English word I , the first person singular pronoun. The use of the letter I , both in Russian and English, suggests an impermissible individualism. These two characters were the only ones in the novel to display individualism in the novel and a rejection, blatantly or not, towards the One State through the refusal of norms or through creativity. Zamyatin also utilizes modernist color symbolism in his novel as a way of characterization. For example, the character I 330 is associated with the colors of a bee. Color conveys meanings in two primary ways natural associations and psychological symbolism. The colors associated with bees are yellow and black; yellow is often associated with joy, happiness, and intellect, instability, and mental illness. Donald Trump Pop Culture In modern life, news outlets distribute satire and caricatures of government institutions and its leaders to the public via numerous social media platforms, television, and magazines with little to no repercussion. Currently, the most famous political figure satirized in the media is the forty fifth President of the United States, Donald Trump. Harshly criticized for his politics, pseudo professionalism, and demeanor, the President brandishes the reports and depictions of his misdoing as fake news . Louis Phillipe, born under the Old Regime in 1773, is the only French monarch to come to power as a result of a political uprising against his predecessor Although the cousin of the Bourbon monarch, King Louis XVI, Louis Phillipe the son of Duc d Orléans, was raised with liberal and Enlightenment ideologies. With his family heavily involved in the early stages of the French Revolution of 1789, Louis Phillipe served as an officer in the military. Although unsettled by the Revolutionary leadership voting for regicide, he remained faithful to the army, until the outbreak of the Reign of Terror in 1793. • 7. The Matchmaker Analysis The golden age of the big budget musical may remain lost to the annals of old Hollywood, some may argue that classics will always be better than their reimagined counterparts, but this is hardly the case in all circumstances. The 1969 big screen adaptation of Hello, Dolly! proves that sometimes the original star power of a cast can be overridden decades later. The 2017 Broadway revival of Hello Dolly! supports the idea that while people may become accustomed to hearing a song a certain way, a new interpretation of the materials can lead to blockbuster success. Despite the glitter and grandeur of the on screen film adaptation s costuming and set design, the 2017 iteration of the musical, based on Thornton Wilder s play The Matchmaker, shows that big budgets and sweeping landscapes are not needed; opting to go with garishly bright pastels and impeccable choreography to stir the imaginations and win the hearts of millions of theatergoers. Starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau, the 1969 film certainly attempted to bring the star power but hostility that developed between Walter Matthau and Barbra Streisand (TCM) turned into anything but a love story when presented on the big screen. Both actors shared a mutual dislike that caused a very clear disconnect onset, where Matthau refused to be in the same room as Streisand unless they were filming (TCM). Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo Galilei) in Oxford, England. He passed the test with excellence, and therefore, went on to Cambridge. At Cambridge University, he was going to study cosmetology, a branch of physics. Fortunately for him he decided to study theoretical physics, not experimental physics where he would have had to set up many experiments, which he could not have done after he got ALS. By now, Stephen had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS slowly destroys the nerves in the brain and spine. ALS victims usually die within 2 5 years because it destroys the muscles used for breathing which leads to suffocation. When he was diagnosed with ALS, he pretty much gave up his life. After he did not die after two years, he realized he could go on with ALS and his study of cosmetology. Although he was weak, he could still walk. After those 2 years, he decided he could not waste any time, there were things he wanted to do in his life. Hawking wanted to get married and get a Ph.D. So he was engaged to Jane Wilde in 1965.

My face would turn bright red and my dry throat would anxiously swallow so loud that I clearly could hear it sitting at my desk. Remembering the story that I read the night before was almost unattainable for me. Understanding the large vocabulary and heavy wording of each question was nearly impossible for me to understand, similar to communicating with an illiterate foreigner in English. Often, randomly circling answers and guessing would be my last resort to a successful completion of the test, while hoping for a presentable grade. Reading comprehension has always been one my weaknesses ever since the first day I picked up a book. This weakness was not one that I could easily overlook and with each new day, it brought upon a new level of embarrassment as I sat in school envious of my classmates. If I were to describe myself in two words, I would choose the words passionate and determined. However, I did not develop this personality until my last year in elementary school. All throughout elementary school, I struggled in numerous subjects, especially in reading and grammar. In fact, I was one of the weakest students in the class. I was always below my grade s required reading level and while majority of my peers were ahead and always looking for books in higher reading level shelves, I would always be found in the opposite side of the school library where they kept the ... The first reason is imperialism causes a hostile environment between the nation imperializing and the nation being imperialized. Next, the negative outcomes outweigh the positive. In other words, when there is little good that comes out of expanding one nation, why would a nation take that risk? Lastly, Ethnocentrism is one of the effects of imperialism. Ethnocentrism is judging distant cultures based on the standards of your own. Imperialist nations believe that they are superior races and culture. The White Man s Burden provides more insight on the perspective of those imperialist nations ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). To serve your captives need; to wait in heavy harness, on fluttered folk and wild your new caught, sullen peoples, half devil and half child said Kipling ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). This quote means it is believed that the white man s burden or responsibility is to imperialize, civilize, and Christianize these other nations. For instance, African American were seen as the unfit and they needed to be civilized. Racism is when races are considered inferior to another race because of assumptions made. When you consider another race unfit, you are basing it off your own culture s differences therefore creating racism (Rashid, Aatif). Furthermore inequality is caused by those superior nations . These superior nations put themselves on a high pedestal resulting in the belief they are better than anyone else. It is proven that humans are more attracted to other humans if their bodies and faces are more proportional. What determines if humans are in proportion is the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio originates from Greece and is based on Fibonacci Numbers created by Leonardo Fibonacci in 1200 AD, which is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two numbers before it , for example 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 and so on. If you divide every number by the one in front of it you get decimals that are very close to each other for example: 1.60, 1.61, 1.62. This is where we get Phi from (1.6180339887) . The Golden Ratio is 1:1.6180339887. It wasn t until the 1900 s that American mathematician Mark Barr used the Greek letter phi (Φ) for this proportion. Artists also use the golden ratio to make paintings. Leonardo Da Vinci created many drawings that revolved around the Golden Ratio. His drawings consist of a circle, a square, and the length from navel to head and navel to the foot. A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips of metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements from different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary engravings and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate because from 1530 up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique to create illustrated material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type of design into a plate made of copper. At the start of 2016, authorities increased restrictions on civil society groups critical of the government , so they used overboard sedition, criminal defamation and hate speech laws to harass minorities views (Human Rights Watch : India Today). Free Speech and Religious Freedom is important to Hindu Minorities and the government should have no objection towards the sacrifice and fighting spirit these people have to get their point across, so going against their act of civil disobedience will only cause further complications. In this essay, I will be siding with Davis argument, as there should be no reason to develop and research life extension if we cannot make it available to everyone at once. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being able to take advantage of life extension would lead us into to the inability to repay the efforts that were put into researching and developing life extension. For example, if we were able to take out a loan for life extension, then the time in life we have to repay for life extension would also increase. Life extension would also worsen our death, then it would better our death, as we are harmed comparatively on impending death. When you anticipate your future death to be in your early nineties, it may not sound as bad when there is no life extension available, but when you see a wealthy person live into their hundreds with life extension, it will make your death sound worse off if you died in your nineties. A part of decision making in relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The probability of you meeting those goals depends on decision making. For example a restaurant owner has received more revenue on Thursdays than on any other day And less Revenue on Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at everything that could have influenced his sales. The owner realized that the only things that were different on Thursdays than any other day was the chief special and the drink special. According to the receipts of the last four Thursdays the probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The probability that a customer orders the chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is 42%. This shows the restaurant owner that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both Thursdays and Saturdays. Effective decision making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective decision making must be rational. As mentioned before, people who are deciding rationally are attempting to reach goals in a systematic way. They make sure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Use of Birds in Chronical of a Death Foretold by... In the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, birds are used as motifs intentionally in the imagery of scenes to convey sentiments, ideas and messages to the reader. Some of the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife, supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the novella. In literature, birds are commonly viewed as signs of freedom while in flight, yet while they are entrapped in cages, they symbolize the struggle for freedom. Gabriel Garcia s usage of birds has both common and uncommon roles in the novel. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Santiago seemed happy with his father until the latter died suddenly, three years before, (Marquez 7). In this sense, the dream about floating through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was falling, [...] but [...] he awoke [...] spattered with bird shit, (Marquez 3) ties into Santiago s life. The birds hold significance in this passage in the metaphor comparing bird shit to life ruining events. The reader learns more about Santiago when the narrator reveals that Nasar gained the good arts of valor and prudence (7) from his father and is a merry, peaceful, and openhearted (8) individual. Furthermore, Santiago is an aggressive wealthy individual that is compared to a sparrow hawk [...] just like his father, nipping the bud of any wayward virgin who began showing up in those woods, (90). In the text, falcons are associated with entertainment and displaying one s status of wealth, and the opening quote by Gil Vicente, the pursuit of love is like falconry (1) compares the persistent nature of pursuing love to the recreational activity of hunting with falcons. Subsequently, the reader becomes aware of Santiago s innocence and naivety. Nahir Miguel reveals to the narrator that Santiago looked like a little wet bird, (114). Police are tasked with an essential role in protecting and enforcing the law. They are a critical aspect towards the criminal justice system and the criminal investigation process. To assist their role to the community, they ve been provided several types of powers and authorities to achieve their duties towards the community. These authorised powers are used to stop, search and detain a person when they re certain a crime is committed. Consequently, police can use this authority to potentially violate another individuals right, such as privacy. Whilst this power allows police to fulfil their duty to the community, is that justifiable to violate an individuals right? • 34. Humor In Joseph Heller s Catch-22 Similarly, Heller s use of humor to alter a reader s emotions drastically, distracts readers from his original point. While reading Catch 22 one goes through a wide spectrum of emotions, and those emotions can change in a matter of seconds. One example of this is when Nately s whore finds out about Nately s death. Her angry reaction is understandable, but Heller stretches this out for quite a while. The grieving woman is transformed through the dark humor that Heller uses so liberally, her character is revised into a maniac, set on killing Yossarian. It is this type of nonsense that is not needed in order for Heller to make his point. The reader understands Heller s point about grieving after he spends seven consecutive pages describing Nately s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is perhaps his most successful use of dark humor. The maid in the lime colored panties and her relationship with Yossarian is an example of the point Heller is trying to make. As John Muste noted, Love is reduced to lustful sexual encounters in which women are barely human (Muste). Heller s statement about love is truly well, and his use of dark humor is quite good. Talking about how Yossarian would sleep with anyone, and the light hearted attitude he used when Aarfy raped the girl. His use of humor does an exceptional job of poking fun at the state of love. Although he does a better job in this category, winning a battle is not the same as winning a war. Heller is successful in making his point about love but fails elsewhere within the same topic by over using dark humor. Heller s statement about love, is lost in the web of dark jokes that Heller is constantly weaving. Instead of coming across as a powerful statement, Heller s erotic chapters are accepted as just that. Although his purpose is understood, Catch 22 is not a commentary on love, it is a commentary on war. In order to be more successful, Heller should have focused on making his main point clear. This failure is to focus on the main idea and instead look at love so deeply is perhaps why some people consider his use of erotic material to prop up his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Thomas Tweed Space Summary Thomas Tweed in his article Space claims that there is a deeper connection between space and religion than meets the ordinary eye. The article examines how Christianity, Islam, and Judaism describe, imaginatively figure, and construct Jerusalem as a religious space. According to Tweed, space, in a religious context, is defined by three different and distinguishable characteristics: differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated. As revealed throughout many of the books in the Hebrew Bible, Jerusalem is one of these religious spaces that Tweed is talking about. Various Biblical texts, like Genesis 22, 2 Samuel 5 7, 1 Kings, and the Psalms reveal the city of Jerusalem, its geography, and its people s history as being differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is differentiated, or the type of space that is defined by the lived experiences of people. These differentiated locales are particular and special compared to other undifferentiated spaces. An example of a differentiated space for our everyday lives is our bedroom. Our bedroom is special to us because it holds memories or various lived experiences that just can t be recreated in another space. The next characteristic is kinetic, or a non stagnant, always changing space that encapsulates history. There is a direct relationship between events that take place and the time in which they take place and this relationship creates change. A good example of a city that continued to change over the many years in the Hebrew Bible was Jerusalem. The last characteristic of a religious space is interrelated, or a space that is not based solely upon religion, politics, or economics, but rather is connected by all of them working together. Tweed says, religious space can be understood as a confluence... to emphasize the mutual inter causality of the biological and the culture and in turn acknowledge that converging cultural steams political, social, and the economic impact religions as they emerge from the swirl of transfluvial currents. In other words, religious space is not only affected by a specific faith, but is also affected by specific political, economic, or social moves that take place in a given time ... • 36. Astronomy Vs Astrology Research Paper Astronomy and astrology are very similar, yet different. Astronomy is the study of the universe and what s inside of it, as well as other universes. Astrology is the study of how the actions and movements of things in our universe affect what happens on earth, and people. Although they both deal with the universe and one was founded by the other, they also have many things that set them apart from one another. This essay will talk about the differences and similarities of astronomy and astrology and how each is used. One of the main differences between astrology and astronomy is that astronomy is based off of research and facts, while astrology is based on the beliefs. Founded in Babylon, astrology uses planets and other celestial objects to try to predict the future. Astrology is not a science, it is the theorem that everything that happens in space affects what happens to people on earth. Astrology is considered a pseudoscience, or a belief that is not based on science or the scientific method. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These telescopes and satellites observe light reflected by things such as planets, meteors, or stars in space and use it to make observations. Then the Astronomers job is to collect and analyze the data observed. Similarities of the two are that astronomy was founded by astrology. These rhetorical strategies are used in everyday life whether people use it intentionally or not. My purpose for writing this text is to provide you guys examples of rhetorical strategies using two pieces of text. The first piece of text is by Edward Albee and it is titled The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia. The text is about a family going through turmoil. Martin, a married man with a gay son, reveals that he is in love with a goat by the name of Sylvia. His love for Sylvia ultimately ruins his relationship with his family. The author of this book, Albee, is known for being an American playwright director. He has written several plays about relationships and marriage. The second text is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by Hunter S. Thompson. The text was about a guy named Raoul Duke and his attorney reporting the race during the Mint 400. Throughout the text, both men go on a drug binge and consume countless amounts of substances. Thompson was an American journalist who traveled across the U.S. Although he made several pieces of work, he is best known for the type of journalism that he conducted. In this case, corruption and interests of the powerful could also be seen as the cause of human rights deprivation in the Philippines. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed. Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the right choice. Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. • 42. Vandalization Of Graffiti For several decades, graffiti has been a subject of great contention. Is it art that should be appreciated? Or is it vandalism that must be condemned? Semantics aside, what can be definitively agreed upon is that graffiti is an urban phenomenon and that its many manifestations are unique in their own ways. The urban landscape that is the canvas for graffiti artists and taggers houses some of society s most problematic factors, such as socioeconomic disparities, power struggles, political unrest, and a sense of isolation. For some communities and individuals, these social stratifications and feelings of detachment have led to their use of graffiti as an outlet to express their urban realities. To understand the communal usages of graffiti, there must first be an understanding of which communities are frequently using graffiti and what factors of city life are the causation. Often times when people think of graffiti, gang graffiti is one of the first forms that come to mind. However, in order to analyze gang graffiti, it should be questioned as to why there are even urban gangs in the first place. Many gangs reside in impoverished inner city communities and as such they are subject to substandard housing, poor education, high rates of substance abuse, and violent crime (Marcionis and Parillo 2013:277). In order to cope with their troubled lives, residents of high poverty urban neighborhoods [will] by necessity form network links to survive (212) and gangs are one of these network links. Additionally, Marcionis and Parillo find that in lower economic communities, the collective sharing of tangibles and non tangibles is an important coping strategy (212) in managing their disenfranchised lives, and gangs will, at times, provide both tangible and non tangible resources via money, physical protection, shared values, and kinship. In gangs, there is also evidence of modern gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities, given their provision of kinship, sharing of resources, and protection for urbanites that feel largely marginalized by those with power (123). Like the gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities of old, gangs are close knit communities with in group out group mentalities and are what Gans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Practice of Code Switching In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006) investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with students from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
