Antibacterial Resistance in the Muscles of Chicken, Pig and Beef IJERA Editor
Though antibiotic drugs are known to improve the health and welfare of food animals , there is parallel risk due
to the development of resistant microorganisms in the body of target animals. Seven meat samples were
procured from wet market in Old Town,Petaling Jaya, Malaysia and assessed for the presence of antibiotic
residues. The samples chosen were chicken parts (skin, muscle and liver) , pig parts (liver, muscle and
intestine) and beef muscle. The results indicated that chicken skin had high level of antibioticresidues which
positively resisted the presence of gram positive, Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidisand B. cereus as known
by the zone of inhibition.The beef muscle also held residue which resisted S. aureusChosenbacteriaalong with
the extracts of chicken skin, pig intestine and beef muscle were observed to be resistant totetracycline
hydrochloride, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate and their combinations when tested at a concentration
of 1 percent

BACKGROUND:
The current article aims to explore the protective potentials of α-tocopherol alone and the combination of allicin and vitamin B-complex against lead-acetate neurotoxicity on the cerebellar cortex.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
Forty rats were divided into four groups (n=10). Group 1 was the control group. Group 2 received 10 mg/kg body weight (BW) of lead acetate. Group 3 was exposed to 10 mg/kg BW of lead acetate plus a combination of allicin (100 mg/kg BW) and vit. B-complex (40 mg/kg BW). Group 4 was administered lead acetate (10 mg/kg BW) and α-tocopherol (100 mg/kg BW). The animals received treatment for sixty days by oral gavage. All the groups were studied ultrastructurally and immunohistochemically with glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP).
RESULTS:
The affected groups revealed shrunken and degenerated Purkinje cells with irregular nuclei. The cytoplasm comprised several lysosomes, unhealthy mitochondria, and dilated Golgi saccules. The myelinated nerve fibers demonstrated breaking of the myelin sheaths, apparent vacuoles, and broad axonal spaces. Immunohistochemically, there was a tremendous surge in GFAP-positive astrocytes in the lead acetate-treated group. These histological and ultrastructural variations were ameliorated by the administration of α-tocopherol and the combination of allicin and vit. B complex. Moreover, an apparent decrease in the number of GFAP-positive astrocytes was obvious in the protected groups.
CONCLUSIONS:
Although both α-tocopherol and the combination of allicin and vit. B-complex can be used as possible adjuvant therapies to ameliorate nervous system ailments attributable to lead acetate, α-tocopherol showed more protective potential.

Kidney Function Test, Weight Gain and Serum Protein Values of Mature Male Tur...IJEAB
Sixteen sexually matured (12 months old) healthy male turkeys were used to determine the effect of Gonadotrophin (Diclair®) on kidney function, weight gain and serum protein values. The turkeys were divided into 4 treatment groups, identified as T1 (control) administered with 1.00ml physiological saline (0.00 i.u Diclair®), T2 , administered with 13.50 i.u Diclair®, T3,administered with 27.00i.u Dicliar®T4, administered with 40.50 i.u Dicliar(R), with one turkey per replicate in a completely Randomized Design (CRD). The injections were divided into 3 doses each and administered intramuscularly in the thigh for three consecutive days. Blood was collected one week after Diclair® administration. Four turkeys were randomly selected fro-m each treatment groupand bled to collect blood for blood chemistry analysis. The turkey were weighed every week for five weeks and their weight recorded. The result showed that there were significant differences (P< 0.05) among the treatment groups in all parameters for kidney function test: chronicle, potassium, sodium, bicarbonate expect creatinine which was similar (p > 0.05) among the treatment groups. The results further showed that there were no significant differences (p > 0.05) among the treatment groups in initial body weight. However, there were significant differences (P< 0.05) among the treatment groups in final body weight and weight gain. Similarly there were significant differences (P< 0.05) among the treatment groups in all the serum protein values measure: albumin, globulin, serum total protein as well as albumin/globulin ratio. The results of the study showed that Diclair enhanced kidney function and weight gain without any deleterious effects on serum protein values of the male turkeys.
A survey made at the end of an aqua industry forum meeting in Vietnam last year has shown that for 63 percent of the participants, the most limiting challenge for developing aquaculture was health and disease management. Indeed, in recent years, we have seen numerous diseases appearing and impacting aquaculture production, such as WSSV and EMS in shrimp, or Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA) in salmonids. Working around the classic Host-Pathogen-Environment triad, new technologies and management techniques have been developed to better control diseases in aquatic animals: vaccination, which has led to the decrease of antibiotic use in salmonids; biosecurity procedures in hatcheries and in farms; biofloc technology. All of these technologies have proven successful. Their further development and expanded use will certainly improve the way aquatic animals are farmed.
ABSTRACT- Live microorganisms, have beneficial effects on their host’s health, are called as probiotics. There are various possible sources to isolate
these bacteria. In this studyp harmaceutical probiotic sachet is used as isolation source. The purpose of this study is to search the potentiality of
probiotic bacteria and investigate the probiotic properties of isolates.9 different samples of 3 brands of sachet were used for isolation of bacteria.
Isolates were examined according to their probiotic properties. The probiotic characteristics like pH and Bile tolerance, Antagonistic activity and
Antibiotic susceptibility of isolated bacteria Such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium bifidum was done. Bile
Tolerance and pH tolerance was determined with the help of the help of coefficient of growth inhibition if their coefficient of growth inhibition is less
than 0.5 the organism was considered as the pH and Bile tolerance. The Strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium
bifidum show best result at the pH Acidic to Neutral (5 to 7) and show a bile tolerance from 1-4 % bile. All the isolated bacteria show
the maximum inhibition against Staphyloccocus aureus and minimum against Salmonella typhi by Lactobacillus Strains but Bifidobacterium show
minimum against Escheria coli. Most isolates show resistance toward antibiotics. From this study it can be concluded that pharmaceutical probiotic
products used in the study were showing satisfactory quality and potential probiotic strain.

Bryophyllum Pinnatum: A Potential Attenuator of Cadmium-Induced Oxidative Str...IOSR Journals
Cadmium has been famously implicated in the stimulation of free radical production in biosystems resulting in oxidative deterioration of lipids, proteins and DNA, and initiating various pathological conditions in humans and animals. This study therefore, examined the antidotal and ameliorative capacity of crude ethanolic extract of Bryophyllum pinnatum on cadmium-induced oxidative stress using rabbit models. A total of fifteen rabbits (1.30±0.05kg) were used for the study. After two weeks of acclimatization, the rabbits were randomly rifted into three experimental groups- (N, CD & CB) with five animals per group. The control group (N) was injected normal saline intraperitoneally (3mg/kg body weight) and the test groups (CD & CB) were administered cadmium once daily by subcutaneous injection (3mg/kg body weight). The ethanolic extract of the plant was orally administered once daily at a dose of 100mg/kg body weight. The oxidative and antioxidative stress parameters were assessed in tissues. The results showed significant difference (p˂ 0.05)in treated groups relative to the control group with the exception of glutathione peroxidase activity in leg muscles. Therefore, the results obtained in this study confirmed the potency of the plant to annihilate cadmium toxicity in animals

The results of this study revealed that the use of natural bees’ honey has the ability to protect the liver of rats against the toxic effects of melamine.
Melamine contains 66% nitrogen by mass, so it is sometimes illegally added to food products in order to increase the apparent protein content that has recently become a serious concern. The illegal use of melamine as a food ingredient has led to many poisoning incidents of cats and dogs in the United States, as well as renal function failure of Chinese infants.
STUDY ON ANTI ULCER AND ANTI INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS OF Vilvathi LehiyamJing Zang
The aim of the study, to evaluate the phytochemical, anti-ulcer and anti-inflammatory activities of Vilvathi Lehiyam. Anti-ulcer activity of ethanolic extract of Vilvathi Lehiyam was investigated on omeprazole induced ulcer model in albino rats. Ethanolic extract of dosage 250 and 500kg/mg produced significant inhibition of gastric lesions induced by Omeprazole induced ulcer. The extract 250 and 500kg/mg showed significant (p<0.01) reduction of pH value of gastric juice compared control. The Vilvathi Lehiyam was evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity against the carrageenan induced rat paw oedema at injected sthe doses 500 kg/mg body weight and the study was compared with standard drug Dexamethasone (2mg/kg). The Vilvathi Lehiyam has significant anti-inflammatory activity, which support the traditional medicinal utilization of Vilvathi Lehiyam. Based on the above results, of Vilvathi Lehiyam may be useful as a natural drug for the treatment of ulcer and inflammation.

This study was designed to address the protective effects of Zingiber officinale on the toxic outcomes of prenatal Cadmium administration on pregnancy outcome. Pregnant female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups (eight rats/each), control group received distilled water, 2nd group treated with 8.8 mg of CdCl2/kg b. wt, 3rd group treated with 250 mg of Zingiber officinale/kg b. wt, and 4th group treated with 250 mg of Zingiber officinale/kg b. wt, followed by 8.8 mg of CdCl2/kg b.wt. Daily body weight of pregnant was recorded from GD1-GD20, and then pregnant rats were sacrificed at GD20. Samples of maternal and fetal livers and kidneys were processed for histological examination. Administration of Cd to pregnant rats showed adverse effects on pregnant mothers and their fetuses; reduced maternal weight gain, reduced absolute organ weights, reduced fetal growth parameters and placental weights together with altered histological appearance of the maternal and fetal livers and kidneys. While co-administration of Zingiber officinale showed an improvement of these toxic alterations. Zingiber officinale through its antioxidant activity could be beneficial against toxic outcomes of Cd exposure during pregnancy.

Survivin has been studied many times because of its overexpression in several types of cancer
including lung, kidney, skin, endometrium, stomach, colon, breast, prostate, over, hematologic, head and neck
cancers, histopathology features and polymorphisms in the promoter region which belongs to the inhibitör of
apoptosis gene family by researchers. There is no study of survivin immunoreactivity in the gastric mucosa of the
rats fed with carpet shell clam grown in the Dardanelles. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of
carpet shell clam fed rats on survivin production in the gastric mucosa. The carpet shell clam given as food to the
rats were removed from the Dardanelles Çardak region. Four groups of rats are included in the study, group 1
(n=6), control group fed with standard rat food, group 2 (n=6), 75% carpet shell clam and 25% standard rat
food daily, group 3 (n=6), 75% carpet shell clam and 25% standard rat food every two days, group 4 (n=6), 75%
carpet shell clam and 25% standard rat food every three days. To detect survivin localization in the tissues, the
LAB-SA Detection System was used. Survivin immunoreactivity was detected of epithelial cells in the gastric
mucosa of rats fed with carpet shell clam. After the immunohistochemical staining processing all gastric tissue
samples are evaluated in terms of survivin immunoreactivity with light microscopy and image analysis software.
Survivin immunoreactivity was detected 0% in the first group, 83.33% in the second group, 61.83% in the third
group and 32.67% in the fourth group. There was statistically significant difference between the survivin

production in the gastric mucosa of rats suggests that consumption of carpet shell clam may cause tissue damage.
Toxicological profile of Grewia bicolor root extractIOSRJPBS
In recent years, traditional system of medicine has become a topic of global importance. Many of the plant species that provide medicinal herbs have been scientifically evaluated for their possible medicinal, pharmacological and toxicological effects. A number of species of the genus Grewia have been used as medicinal herbs to treat several diseases in different parts of the globe. Grewia bicolor is the most famous medicinal plant among the genus Grewia. Despite the wide use of the plant in traditional medicine, so far no scientific evaluation was carried out on this plant for the preclinical toxicity profile. The present study was conducted to evaluate the safety of Grewia bicolor root extract. The plant extract proved that it is relatively safe through the acute and sub-acute studies.
ABSTRACT- Radioprotective mechanisms of Rutin (RUT) and Quercetin (QRT) against gamma radiation was studied
by investigating recovery of histopathology of intestinal mucosa and bone marrow in Swiss albino mice. These mice
were treated with RUT (10mg/kg.b.wt.) and QRT (20mg/kg.b.wt.) once daily for five consecutive days and exposed to
7.5 Gy of gamma radiation after the last administration. RUT and QRT treatment before exposure to 7.5 Gy of gamma
radiation. To assess the intestinal and bone marrow protective potential of RUT and QRT, histological analysis was
carried out by observing the villus height, crypt survival, number of goblet cells/villus section and dead cells/villus
section in the mouse jejunum and bone marrow cellularity at 24 hours post-irradiation. Mice exposed gamma radiation
caused a significant decline in the villus height and crypt number with an increase in goblet and dead cell number with a
significant decrease in bone marrow nucleated cells. The potent antioxidant nature of RUT and QRT mitigate the
oxidative stress induced by gamma radiation and thus protect the mice from gastrointestinal damage.

Cadmium is one of common environmental
pollutants; it is an important metal and has
several uses in industry such as; electroplating,
soldering, batteries, painting and as a plastic
stabilizer.
Cadmium toxicity considered as an environmental
disease which resulted from the cumulative
absorption of small amounts of cadmium until
toxic levels are reached in the body which results
in a toxic state which is linked with a number of
health problems.
4. Introduction
Cadmium is one of teratogenic agents which
interfere with, modify, or inhibit the proliferation of
cells and normal growth of organs .
Vitamin C as an antioxidant and immune enhancer
is one of the important water soluble vitamins and
essential for collagen synthesis.
The Nigella sativa (common food) is immune
enhancer as it enhances T cell mediated immunity
through the improvement of T helper to
suppressor T-cell ratio.

Nigella sativa seeds have an antioxidant
actions and cytoprotective effect . The
Nigella sativa has an antibacterial effect ,
also it has anticancer effect.
The transforming growth factor alpha
( TGF-α ) is known to regulate cell

No available studies were done according to our
knowledge to investigate the effects of cadmium
chloride administration on the tongue
development of the albino mice offspring
subsequent to intramuscular injection of the drug
to their mothers (dams)
and to study the effect of vitamin C and Nigella
sativa as an antioxidants and immune enhancers
on the effect of cadmium on the development of
the tongue in mice offspring.This promoted the
present research, which will be investigated
histopathologically and immunehistochemically.

2.1- Experimental-animals:
Seventy five (75) mature albino mice of
five to six weeks of age, were well
elected as fifty (50) mature females
weighed 26-28g., and twenty five (25)
mature males weighed 28-30g.

• Group I:
The animals were injected
intramuscularly in the thigh with 0.5 ml
of sterile normal saline twice a week and
used as a control group.

was given orally by injection through plastic
syringe with blunt needle into the pharynx.

• Group V:
The animals were treated as in group III
(injected with cadmium chloride + intramuscular
injection of 10mg/ kg body weight of vitamin C
(Cevarol 1000 mg/5 ml ampoule).
and have been also given the Nigella sativa, as in
group IV.
All groups of animals have been administrated the
doses for one month before pregnancy, and during
gestation period till delivery.

• 2.3 Investigations of pregnancy:
After one month of drug administration,
each two females were housed together with one male in a single cage,
for breeding purposes.
Animals were mated from 5.00 pm. until 9.00 am. at the following day
when the males were separated from females.
The technique used for determination of pregnancy was based
on the vaginal smears, this day was determined the day 0 of
gestation.
All groups were given the drugs doses as the regime which has
mentioned before for the whole pregnancy time until delivery.
Each female was separated in a single cage near to delivery to
conserve the offspring.
All mice were maintained in a controlled environment and were
provided with adequate laboratory diet and water.

• 2.4- Obtaining-of-specimens-and-tissue-
preparation:
After delivery, pups were collected, and
sacrificed by decapitation using a sharp
blade.
The heads of each litter were fixed in
Bouin's fixative, prepared routinely for
paraffin embedding,and sectioned step
serially parallel to the coronal plane for
histopathological and
immunohistochemical-studies.

5-6μm step-serial sections were stained with Haematoxylin and Eosin
(Bancroft et al., 1994).
2.6 Immunohistochemical-examination
For the demonstration of transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-α),
tissue sections of 5-6 μm thick were cut from paraffin blocks and
placed on positively charged (opti plus) slides for staining procedures.
The avidin-biotin peroxidase complex method (ABC) outlined by
Ramos-Vara (2005) was used.
The transforming growth factor alpha receptors (TGF-α) were used in
addition to a polyclonal rabbit anti-human p- catenin.
All antibodies were in the form of pre diluted antibody (conc. 1-50,
Dako), which were ready to be used for the reaction procedures.
Control slides were prepared using the same method omitting either
primary or secondary antibodies.

also Nigella sativa has a protective effect against
the embryotoxic effect of cadmium,
while vitamin C and Nigella sativa together had
overcome the adverse effect of cadmium on the
tongue structure and expression of transforming
growth factor alpha.
