Transgenic livestock are animals that have had genes from other species inserted into their genomes. This presentation discusses the process of transgenesis, examples of transgenic animals like cows, sheep, goats and pigs, and applications in agriculture, medicine, and industry. Some examples given are disease-resistant pigs and goats that produce spider silk protein in their milk. However, ethical issues around blurring species lines, animal suffering, and potential health and environmental risks must also be considered. With further research, transgenic animals could help address various challenges if developed and used carefully.
