Native American Suicide Rates
Though the Indian Reservations were created so long ago, the quality of life has
barely changed. It is extremely poor. So poor, in fact, that they are likened to
developing countries. 60% of children are born out of wedlock and Native
Americans are the third highest group in the country for teenage pregnancy. The
suicide rate of Native American teenagers is three times that of the rest of
America. Alcoholism is a big problem of reservations. Native Americans are four
times more likely to die of alcoholism and 17 times more likely to die in an accident
involving alcohol. In addition to this, they are twice as likely to be involved in an
arrest concerning alcohol. One of the worst reservations is the Pine Ridge
Reservation in South Dakota.

Response to The Good Shepherd (CIA)
The Good Shepherd is a fascinating, adult film. It is an adult film not merely
because of its high rating but because it depicts the difficult and problematic
professional and personal life of a CIA operative with an adult, realistic approach that
is rarely shown in films. In addition, The
Good Shepherd tells a compelling, complex, personal and political story and tells it
extremely well. The film utilizes familiar, but not essentially true to life,
personalities and episodes to make political points. This essay will provide a response
to the film from a political point of view.
In the film, the viewers are able to follow the development of the CIA via ... Show

I certainly don t know of any normal individual who could do that. One message that
echoes right through the film is that Wilson actually never trusts anybody. He is
supposedly based on an authentic CIA intelligence officer who was so paranoid and
secretive that few in the
CIA knew what he may have looked liked. Nevertheless, in the world of espionage,
where deception must often be necessary, being distrustful must be just part of the
job (Chapman and
Robert 210).
However, not all the employees of the Central Intelligence Agency resemble Edward
Wilson. At the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, all employees seem like
normal people having a normal day at their offices. Most of the workers are actually
analysts and not operatives
(Chapman and Robert 210). However, it strikes me that, if I am to assume that
Edward Wilson is a model CIA employee, The Good Shepherd may be furthering a
clichГ©.

Important lesson learned from the Film
The most essential lesson I learn from the film is that knowing the truth is important
because the truth always sets you free. Furthermore, the film teaches that deception
will always lead to imprisonment but the truth always leads to freedom. According to

Federal Prohibition In Canada
Oh So Social, Canada!
Prohibition in Canada: Worth it? March 3rd, 1924 Federal prohibition of alcohol in
Canada was a controversial act and continues to be debated today. The Women s
Christen Temperance Union (WCTU), founded in 1873, worked towards the
prohibition of alcohol in Canada as a way to avoid abuse from alcoholic husbands.
With the Wartime Elections Act in 1915, Canada began to see women more seriously
in regards to their opinions, so when the WCTU began to promote the prohibition of
alcohol, the federal government actually took their opinion into consideration. In
January of 1918, the federal prohibition of alcohol began, which kick started an
illegal alcohol business in Canada. Nevertheless, some province s laws varied, the

Bisphenol-A
Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of
plastics. It was first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to
produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012).
Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore used in products such as
CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and some
water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans,
paints and adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental
Protection Agency, there are over three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide
each year. Humans are exposed to BPA as it has the ability to hydrolyse (react with
water) when catalysed by hydroxide,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat content, therefore would lead to a higher
risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection Agency concludes that these

some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an

The Tradition And Society Of Indi An Impeccable...
The traditions, culture and society in India have given precedence to men over
women in multitude of issues concerning family, administration, decision making and
several other matters of high magnitude. This gender bias has gradually taken a shape
as male chauvinism, which resulted in the oppression of women and subjected them
to insufferable physical, psychological, moral and ethical castigation. Women, albeit
contribute equally with men in societal and domestic affairs, are not allowed to enjoy
equal status with men in traditional India. Indian society has always manifested them
as obedient daughters, dedicated mothers, devoted wives and loving siblings. The
funniest thing in Indian culture is a mother, being a woman, alienates her daughter
and manifests antagonism to her, if she makes attempts to question genderbias in her
family or in society. The novel is an impeccable manifestation of post colonial
period where a woman is fighting for her constitutional rights for education and
power. The female protagonist Saritha in the novel acquires good education and
becomes a doctor despite her mother s antipathy to girl education. She sustains her
mother s antagonism to her who perpetually maltreats her with her offhand attitude
to her very existence in the family as she wrongly concludes her as the murderess
of her dear brother, Dhruva. Further, she is estranged from her family as she marries
a person of her choice. Her husband, Manohar is a school teacher. Saritha, being a
My Experience At The Train Station
I first arrived in Spain this summer fresh off my first year at DU, traveling
internationally for the first time without my family, and ready to take on this new
adventure into the unknown with my friends. I knew just enough Spanish to get by,
and I couldn t wait to explore the city and test the limits of my comfort. I arrived at
the train station in Santander, a small cityon the northern coast of Spain, with one of
my best friends from DU, Morgan. We then found other DU students traveling
with us during this study abroad program, and met the program coordinator.
Standing in the tiny train station, with the local Spaniards passing us by and the
sliding automatic doors letting in the humid, warm air, the program coordinator
explained to us the logistics of the program, some basic information about Spanish
customs, and introduced us to our host families. Morgan and I were presented to
our host mom and dad, an older Spanish couple named Luisi and Demetrio, we
gave the customary kisses on each cheek, and then we were off. Much of the first
day passed by in an overwhelming flurry of sights, sounds, smells as they drove,
Luisi chatted about the city and their lives there. We arrived at a house, small by
US standards, but large by European. A few chickens wandered in the yard in the
front, three dogs greeted us as we approached the house, and two more were waiting
inside. Everything was perfect and I was in love. However, this feeling didn t last for
long. With our halting,
The Conservation Of The Feral Pigs
INTRODUCTION This model addresses the pathways in which ecological drivers
are having significant influence over the natural systems of Hawaii. Climate change
is one of the most pressing issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the
effects. We re witnessing a large increase in sea levels, which can lead to the erosion
of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate change also is
influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must
focus on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also
influences other ecosystem services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and
supporting services. Specifically dealing with the presence of feral pigs we see
different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances. Cultural drivers
are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been
gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers.
Public hunts have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of
snare traps that could hurt them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want
to restore native vegetation. Managers are seeking public approval and effective
means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human relations are being
strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver is
changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems.
Irony In Enemies
The Irony in these two stories is initially expressed by their titles. At the Beginning
of Enemies, Jensen and Strunk are violently opposed to one another althoguh they
are fighting on the same side of a brutal war. At the end of Friends, although Jensen
didn t take action to kill Strunk, he is relieved rather than aggrieved to learn of
Strunk s death, although the two are supposed to now be friends. These stories
represent the war s view on friendship, and how distorted that emotion becomes. O
Brian implements ironyin Enemies is to show how in war even friends can or will
become enemies. They are fighting for the same side, yet make each other into
enemies. The second chapter is titled Friends, but Jensen s deeper thoughts convey
that they

Introduction: First Understanding Gender The image of a daycare center
exemplifies an area of play and education in one s mind. Here, a child can learn,
interact, and revel solely by themselves or with others such as their peers or authority
figures. Although child development at a young age is key, subliminal messages are
hidden within developmental actions; in a site of early childhood education, indirect
and involuntary messages about genderare heard and witnessed on a day to day basis
that all children, especially infants and toddlers, are susceptible to. Toddlers and
infants will recognize what defines girls and boys because of their exposure to
gender as seen through the uses of gendered words, like he and she , or their toys,...

Literature Review: Gender Socialization Relating to Children Ideas of gender
develops through socialization at a young age for many. First, to understand gender
among toddlers within an educational setting, I need to address how socialization
is implemented. I am going to work on Lawerence Balter s ideas of social context
which states that the social context of child care, peer interactions... and peer social
networks provides first hand experience and knowledge of what is gender (Balter
144). Balter s social context is related to Stanley Greenspan s work articulating the
child s mind is a vulnerable piece of work that constantly molds and tends to
developing patterns (Greenspan 26). Moreover, pattern recognition within the toddler
s mind composes a baseline for knowledge of gender (Greenspan 27). The
relationships the child forms from their peers and teachers are the foundation to a
child s intelligence constituting the comprehension of gender. The context of the
educational site encompasses and highlights socialization of gender among children.
According to Maribeth Gettinger, she states that the power of any socialization
depends on one s environment; Gettinger believes in the learning theory point of
view structure which says: 1. The environment may be described in terms of its

Skid Row and the Safer Cities Initiative
The Safer Cities Initiative of Los Angeles was brought upon the city in late 2006 by
Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. The Initiative was primarily designed to remove the
homeless and mentally ill citizens from the isolated, 50 by 5 block, Los Angeles
streets, known Nationally as Skid Row. In the end the S.C.I. violated these citizens
civil rights and failed to meet any set obligations and responsibilities. Since the city

A Brief Note On Down The Drain It Goes
Down the Drain it Goes We have come to the conclusion that there is no more fresh
water on the earth and that there is no potable water, says a news reporter. The
earth could eventually end up like this. How much of the earth contains
freshwater? Will the earth ever run out of water? If so, how long from now will we
run out of water? What effects could this cause? All of these questions are ones that
interest me greatly and that I would like to know the answers to. After taking an
environmental science class in high school, I already had some prior knowledge on
some areas of this topic. This knowledge includes learning about how much water
there is on the earth. The part of the earth that is water is known as the hydrosphere
and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, I often hear about the topics of water scarcity on the news and in articles
and they bring up countries having water issues, so it encouraged me to find out
more about the topic and to hopefully get my questions answered. While having
many tools available for me to find secondary research for my topic, the easiest and
closest source was my school s library database. On my school s library website,
there is a search generator for looking up articles, books, journals, and anything
you can read. This database was very helpful when it came to looking for
secondary resources. All I needed to do was type in a few key words, and then
read through the options that were given to me based on what I was looking for.
After researching and looking through the data, I found some great articles about
my topic on the fresh water on earth. However, I did have to search a few different
key words and questions to find exactly what I was looking for. I explored things
such as water scarcity, fresh water on earth, will the earth run out of water?, and
how long from now will the earth run out of water?. All of these searches led to
many different articles which then became my secondary sources which I could use
to help answer my questions. I had to read through more than three articles, even
though I needed at least three articles, to decide which ones seemed the most reliable
and well written. My first
Aseptic Technique
An aseptic technique ensures that only uncontaminated equipment and fluids come
into contact with susceptible body sites. It should be used during any clinical
procedure that bypasses the body s natural defences. Using the principles of aseptic
minimises the spread of organisms from one person to another.
An essential part of infection control is firstly identifying possible sources on
infection, and secondly the modes by which the infection might be spread. Any
infection is caused by one of four types of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and
protozoa. These organisms can be carried by both the patients and the staff, and on
any equipment used within the practice. They can also be transferred outside the
work place where patients may come

In 2007 the company entered an open beta phase using flash. Three years later Wix
had three million users (April 2010), a year later (March 2011) they had over eight

later (March 2012), Wix had replaced the current use of flash to a new HTML5 site
builder. Websites created before this implementation still worked using flash, but all
new sites were created using the new HTML5 builder. This change proved to be
incredibly successful, showing an overall usage of more than twenty five million
users as well as generating more than sixty million dollars in 2012. By August 2014,
more than fifty one million users throughout 190 countries have used Wix with
roughly 45,000 new users a day.
Scholars Analysis
Flash websites have always been popular with artists because they display images
beautifully. Unfortunately, Apple s mobile devices and Adobe s Android do not
support a Flash Player needed to show images in Flash (Arthur, 2011). In the future,
the focus will be in HTML5 as mobile world shifts towards non proprietary open
standards (Arthur, 2011).

celebrities who have not had plastic surgery. This can be determined by research or

individuals rating the celebrities could be constantly reminded to base rates
primarily on attractiveness and by asking a varying group of people to rate the

to this problem would be to have surveyors rate photos of random individuals that
they have more than likely never had exposure to or contact with. This would ensure
that bias does not get in the way of collecting an accurate average rate of

Reasons For The Boston Massacre

protested and harassed soldiers standing outside. These colonists were representing
The Sons of Liberty, a secret organization aiming to rebel against the British
Parliament. There was an abundance of tension between the colonists and Great
Britain after new taxes were passed and British troops arrived in Massachusettsto
enforce them. After many hours of chanting and protesting a shot was fired; the
atrocious event left five men dead. The question society still ponders over 200 years
later is what really happened and whose fault was it? The BostonMassacre initiated
because of miscommunication; it was not a massacre but a mutual riot.
To begin, while the colonists were attacking the soldiers, there was a profuse
amount miscommunication. According to Benjamin Burdick, he heard the captain

immature and tried to solve their problems through violence. However, this clearly
accomplished no good, and led to the loss of five men. The Boston Massacre was a
misconception and falsely accused Great Britain. Many patriots created newspapers,
phamlets, and articles that described the colonists as innocent, brainwashing the
public s view on the event. One man guilty of this, was Paul Revere. Although
people around the world call this event a massacre even today, their is a plethora of
reasons why it was a mutual fight and not a British massacre against the colonists. In
conclusion, this event showed society how actions can get blown out of proportion,

The behavior of the students consciousness towards littering in the campus is not
really getting out of hand. Not all students have the don t care attitude as the result is
stating. Students falls into two different categories. There are students who have the
heart to keep their study environment clean and there are those who do not. Those
that practice littering have a fair idea that it is wrong. But yet they tend do it without
thinking. The next paragraph will describe further on such behavior of the students .
According to the result everybody is trying to say that they do not want littering. For
the positive statements they are responding positively and for the negative statement
they are responding negatively. Students may not want to discard rubbishes like piece
of paper or an empty packet of something anywhere, but apparently they do. This may
happen due to laziness, maybe because ofdistance between them and the rubbish bin.
They do not want to walk because it might take some of their time (time factor). This
clearly shows that students have attitude problem even though they are educated.
Knowing that littering is wrong and yet doing it can explain that there is an attitude
problem. Cialdini and others (1981:255) strongly agree that littering is a measure of
attitude . Littering especially occurs when someone (who cares) is not watchingor

How Did The Puritans Influence Political Development
The New England colonies developed quickly and rapidly through the early 1600s.

number of distinct ways. Politically, the idea of a united, representative government
that later became a staple of the US was derived from Puritanideals. Economically,
the ideals of fair pricing and the celebrated Yankeefrugality and thriftiness originated
from the Puritans. Socially, emphasis on church, religion, and community was
another lasting influence of the Puritans. Clearly, the values held by the Puritans
greatly influenced the political, economic, and social development of the New
Englandcolonies from 1630 to 1660. The Puritans greatly impacted the political
development of the New England colonies. Firstly, the idea of a representative
government was derived from Puritan ritual. Much as the Puritans believed the
congregation should elect the reverend, the Puritans also believed that the
government should get its power from the people. This experiment in democracy was
one of the hallmarks of Puritan influence on the New England colonies. Extending
that idea was the idea of unity, politically speaking. As said by John Winthrop, Wee

The purpose of this document is to illustrate the most effective way to teach the
sport of Badminton to beginners. It will outline the basic skills necessary for one
to be successful in the sport, and will be divided into several sections in order to
make it easier to navigate. The document will be sectioned off according to each
skill, beginning with the most basic skills and graduating to the more difficult ones.
This is known as the learning sequence, a recommended order of teaching the skills
of the sport to beginners. Each section of the learning sequence will focus on a

This will allow students to familiarize themselves with the racket grip, as well as
gauging their own ability to cover ground on the court. (4)
Section II Drive Shot
Skill Technique The drive is a shot hit hard at a horizontal angle, typically near the
sideline of the court, while the shuttlecock is about at the level of the player between
the shoulder and the knees (5). Keep racket arm up in front of the chest and spread
weight evenly between the feet. In the forehand drive, side step toward the shuttle,
leading with your racket leg, pointing the racket toward the sideline (2). Lock the
wrist and draw the racket back in a sidearm motion. Then, put your weight on the
racket leg, swing the racket forward, and unlock and flick wrist when contacting the
shuttle. If the shuttlecock is on the side opposite of the racket, either switch racket
hands, or crossover with the racket side leg and drive it backhanded.
Learning cues Lead with racket leg and sidestep toward shuttle. Spread weight and
swing sidearm. Flick wrist on contact
Teaching Styles Have student get racket and shuttle cock, and face the wall, standing
five feet back from it. Draw a horizontal line across the wall about three feet up from
the ground. Instruct students to underhand serve the shuttle into the wall, making
sure to strike the wall above the horizontal line, with enough velocity for the shuttle to
return close enough to the student to hit it again without needing to

I step up to the plate. The hot lights of the Mets stadium hit my face. Clayton

Compare And Contrast How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Comparing How the Grinch stole Christmas The Grinch Who stole Christmas has
been a hit movie for decades. It started off as a book and was made into a cartoon
and a movie. While the book and the movie have some differences the fact that the
grinch is known to hate Christmas, he steals the presents from everyone and the
setting is the same in both the book and the movie make them somewhat similar. The
first similarity between the book and the movie is that the Grinch has been known to
hate Christmas. The book states, The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas
season! This is similar to the movie because in the movie the Grinch hates Christmas.
When he was in school he was bullied around Christmas and he now hates all the
Christmas activities.
Interpretation of Good Country People by Flannery...
In Flannery O Connor s short story Good Country People Flannery shows and

seems as if she has a heart as cold as ice, you learn how vulnerable she is. You also
encounter a character named Manley Pointer. Who puts on a facade of being a
good country boy, and a Christian who sells bibles. Symbolism plays a major role in
the way that these characters are seen through out the story and how they perceive
themselves. Multiple objects presented in the story initially may be props. The reader
soon discovers these props to be extremely important, and necessary to how the story
unfolds. These props symbolically represent the personalties of the characters who...

desires and fantasies cause her several problems later in the story. After years of
education and self absorption, Hulga felt that she had no weakness, though she was
biologically flawed. Her line of thinking turned out to be another symbolism and a
weakness. Her weak heart symbolizes her emotional problems. She does not love
anyone therefore, she thinks she is incapable of being hurt or having a weakness

manipulation of Pointer Manley. I am not the only one who sees these connections

Write An Essay On Vaccination And Autism
By Albert Lin 440352051
As a second year university student currently completing a Bachelor of Health
Sciences at the University of Sydney, I have explored a large variety of health issues,
many of which are still relevant today. After extensively analyzing the
Biopsychosocial Model of the health system throughout my course, I came across the
interesting topic on the relationship between vaccinations and autism. Due to the
intriguing and ongoing nature of the controversy, I have decided that the research
question for my academic essay will be to determine Whether vaccinations really
cause autism in children . The essay will analyse the research question through the
conceptual framework of the rhetorical situation.
Rhetorical Situation
When defining the Rhetorical Situation, Bitzer (1992) describes it as a network of
people, circumstances, objects, and relations that stimulates discussion, which in the
suitable context has the potential to alter the situation (p.6). He notes that there are
three factors that constitute any rhetorical situation. The first factor is Exigence,
which highlights the need to discuss about a certain issue or topic. The second is the
Audience, who are the reactors to the topic and are often presented with a certain
perspective that aims to persuade them to support the issue. The third and final
factors are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

vaccinations, the last few decades have seen an increase in the prominence of anti
vaccination movements (Blume, 2006, p. 630). As such, vaccinations are heavily

noteworthy in the case for childhood vaccinations (Kata, 2012, p.
Female Episodic Memory Research Paper
Introduction
Memory is described as a group of related and interacting processes that enable us to
acquire, retain and retrieve information. Information is first encoded so that it can be
retained in memory. It is then stored where it can be retrieved so that we are
consciously attentive to it. Information first enters sensory memory and if it is
attended to, it can be transferred to short term memory (STM) where it is retained
for about six seconds and then to long term memory (LTM). Information can then
be transferred from LTM to STM when needed and stored again. At any stage,
memory can be lost if it isn t encoded or stored. In order to encode information into
LTM, one of two processes must take place. This investigation focuses on effortful...

Achieving Fit for Corporate Social Responsibility
Achieving Fit for Corporate Social Responsibility Evaluating the measure of
corporate social responsibility (CSR) is as much an attempt to ascertain ethical
conduct of interactions with stakeholders, as it is a management tool of to limit
liability. A research summary of Corporate Responsibility Best Practices, notes that
72% of NYSE Euronext traded firms surveyed have a formal corporate
responsibility programs in place (Corporate Responsibility Officer Association,
2011, p. 6). Just 20% of the surveyed firms did not view corporate responsibility as a
priority, while many firms believed that ethical corporate responsibility was ingrained
throughout their culture and functions. Realizing added value from CSR is best
achieved by fitting actions with motivations to concern both internal and external
stakeholders. Ronald Hill and Karen Becker Olsen find that CSR projects deliver
benefits to firms if there is a similarity between the corporate mission and the social
initiative, perceived motivations aimed at the good, and proactive timing (Hill
Becker Olsen, 2005). Poor fitting CSR initiatives are those the public perceives as
implying that the firm bears fault and is reactive. Press releases by British Petroleum
regarding their commitment to the Gulf demonstrate both a reactive and poorly fitted
motivation initiative that is unlikely to merit praise from the community harmed (BP
p.l.c., 2012). Additionally, measuring the success of a CSR initiative that is reactive
Literature Review On Sand Therapy
Literature Review This literature review links related research regarding the
following areas: 1) academics and play; 2) play therapy, and 3) sand therapy. A
review of the literature shows the effectiveness of play therapy and the effects on
academics, but little research has been done on sand tray therapy and its
effectiveness. Academics Importance of Play. A popular early childhood
development theme is, Learn to Play, Play to Learn . In essence, children can learn
through their play. Gary Landreth, a leading developer of play therapy, states that
Because children s language development lags behind their cognitive development,
they communicate their awareness of what is happening in their world through
play (1993, p.17). The idea is that a child will learn many different things through
their play and since play is a diverse language that can be spoken by anyone it
opens up their ability to learn. Since the development of counseling children
began, improving academics has be emphasized. Early studies suggested that
providing play therapy would increase a child s IQ and improve their ability to
learn in a classroom (Blanco Ray, 2011). Since the passage of No Child Left
Behind legislation, all U.S. schoolchildren are expected to meet certain academic
standards within their respective grade levels and, as a result, school children are
asked to work harder at younger ages (Blanco et al. 2015). The importance of
identifying empirically based interventions

Camberley to become the only supply chain company listed publicly in Hong
Kong. This acquisition also introduced the concept of virtual manufacturing, which
added a new link to the supply chain process in the form of in house design process.
The strategy of expansion via acquisitions has allowed Li and Fung to gain access
to the Asian buying offices of Laura Ashley and Anne Taylor. By 2000, Li and
Fung was five times the size of its two local competitors. Supply chain Expansion
via Internet and E commerce In 1995, Li and Fung had discovered the intranet as a
way to link its offices to manufacturing sites all over the world. Internal
communications were simplified, order progress easily monitored, and online
inspections done in real time. In 1997, customized extranet sites linked key retailers
with manufacturers. Three years later, ten extranet sites existed; each of which
facilitated online product development processes. The use of the internet prompted
quick response manufacturingin a real time environment. Li and Fung s used their

Asthma Is The Leading Cause Of Illness Among

Asthma is the leading cause of illness among elementary aged and adolescence
students. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states asthma is one
of the leading causes of school absenteeism (2013). Asthma friendly schools are those
schools that make the effort to create and support a safe learning environment for
asthmatic students. School nurses have initiated policies and procedures helping
children successfully manage their asthma. Successful school based asthma programs
have been researched looking at the best ways to manage asthma in schools.

The outcome is there are less absenteeism s of the students who receive self
management education from the school nurse versus those students who do not
receive self education. Asthmatic children miss three times as many school days
and have 1.7 times the risk of learning disabilities as children without asthma;
therefore, at risk for poor school performance (Portwood Nelson, 2013).
Approximately 9.2 million children younger than 18 years old have been diagnosed
with asthma; 3.2 million or approximately 6 percent of children five to seventeen
have had an asthma attack within the year (CDC, 2013). Asthma friendly schools
make an effort to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students with
asthma. Research and case studies looked at the best approaches to manage
asthmatic children in schools and found schools that collaborate with asthma care
clinicians to ensure care, schools that have strong administration that support school
nurses and support asthma education for faculty and staff, and schools that support
evaluation of school based programs and use asthma action plans have fewer
school absentees (CDC, 2013). School absenteeism may be related to poor
academic performance, is costing to the parent due to lost wages from the inability
to work, and schools receive federal funding for days attended, funding may be
decreased (Carpenter, Lachance, Wilkin, Clark, 2013). As the school nurse and the

Ever since the 1960s, the Texas textbook controversy has had an issue in America.
The Texas school board is meeting to make revisions to their textbooks and
curriculum. But are they also revising history? Educators across the country are
watching to see the effect this issue will have on students. The choices the board
members are making will affect politics, religion, monies spent thru out the Texas

All of which plus a natural supply of political eccentrics helps explain how Texas
once had a board member who believed that public schools are the tool of the devil.
Texas originally acquired its power over the nation s textbook supply because it paid
100 percent of the cost of all public school textbooks, as long as the books in
question came from a very short list of board approved options. The selection
process was grueling and tension filled, said Julie McGee, who worked at high
levels in several publishing houses before her retirement. If you didn t get listed by
the state, you got nothing. On the other side of the coin, David Anderson, who
once sold textbooks in the state, said that if a book made the list, even a fairly
mediocre salesperson could count on doing pretty well. The books on the Texas list
were likely to be mass produced by the publisher in anticipation of those sales, so
other states liked to buy them and take advantage of the economies of scale.
What happens in Texas doesn t stay in Texas when it comes to textbooks, said Dan
Quinn, who worked as an editor of social studies textbooks before joining the Texas
Freedom Network, which was founded by Governor Ann Richards s daughter, Cecile,
to counter the religious right.
The cost for the Texas textbooks?
As a market, the state was so big and influential that national publishers tended to gear

The Temporal Trends And Spatial Pattern Of Tornado
Activity
DISCUSSION The results from the Analytical phase of the project yielded useful
information on the temporal trends and spatial pattern of tornado activity in the state
of Georgia. Before discussing the results, it is worth recalling that only strong
tornadoes were studied in this project. Strong tornadoes, in this case, is defined by
having an F3 or higher rating on the Fujita Scaleand an EF 3 or higher rating on the
Enhanced Fujita Scale. The reason for excluding weaker tornadoes is to attempt to
account for any reporting or technological bias inherent in studying report data over a
long stretch of time. By plotting the tornadofrequency on the y axis and the years on
the x axis, we can discern a trend in the number of the tornadoes... Show more content

Perhaps the second most apparent detail shown in Figure 4 is the dramatic lack of
strong tornadoes in June through October. During this time period, there hasn t been
one strong tornado since 1966. It is likely the case that conditions in Georgia during
this time are simply not ideal for the formation of tornadoes. Note, that this is not
same as saying thunderstorms are not typically formed during this time. Given the
heat and humidity between June and August, this is likely the time of year where
most storms form. However, during summer and early parts of fall, there is a
noticeable lack of a cold front to provide the wind shear necessary for tornadoes.
Prior to learning how tornadoes form, one might also be shocked to see tornadoes
form so readily in January and February. These are usually cold times of the year for
Georgia and cold weather is usually not conducive for thunderstorms. Incidentally,
when taking into account the cold fronts and wind shear, it is not so unusual to see
more tornadoes form in winter than in the summer. Notice also the trend line. The
trend line fit is not exact and this would be a reasonable result. Temperature and
climate condition do not change in one direction over the course of a year.
This project also looked at tornado frequency during different times of the day. The
result of this analysis is displayed in Figure 5. Tornado activity is usually greatest

Why Did Diocletian Reform The Roman Empire
Diocletian understood that ruling over a major political entity like the Roman
Empire was too difficult for one ruler. This lead to the first major political reform
of the Roman Empire. Diocletian s solution to this problem was the tetrarchy.
Diocletian divide the empire into 4 territories that were all ruled by a separate
leader. The tetrarchy was to help bring the empire back to the ways of the Good
Emperors where the succession of power was peaceful. Diocletianwanted the
Emperors to select their successors from the ranks of the nobles. After Diocletian s
retirement in 305 CE, his hope for a smooth transition of power quickly turned into
complete chaos. Diocletian also tried to reform the economy of the empire to provide
it with stimulation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Visigoths were being forced into the empire the Huns and there leader Attila. The
Visigoth eventually settled in the areas of Spain and Gaul were they won the right to

wasn t until the population of the Visigoths in the Empire increased that the peaceful
arrangement ended. The Romans treated the Visigoth poorly which led to the
Visigoths rebelling against Valens at the Battle of Adrianople and defeating him.
When the defeat of Valens, the Romans allowed the barbicans to form settlements in
the center of the empire. The Vandals, within three decades, had gained control over
northwest Africa and the majority of the Mediterranean. The Burgundians came into
the Empire right after the Vandals and settled in Gaul. The Franks settle in north and

How did these tribes take over such a mighty empire so easily? The invaders were
successful because they came in rapid succession upon badly overextend Western

The Expansion Of The Frontier And The Relationship

Unforgiven and Stagecoach
The film Stagecoach incorporated the expansion of the frontier and the relationship
among the Native Americans. The film starts with a wide view of an open valley to
show the vast plain and the open frontier, introducing and getting an idea of the
setting. The movie was interesting in the sense that it had more social commentary
than most films. An article was written by Thomas Myers explaining the film and the
unique social commentary of the film Stagecoach by stating, it depicted a sub
community of individuals each representing a distinct social status in western
history, and that this clash of classes and misfit characters provide a perfect set up
for social commentary about diverse societies. The western hero possesses a sense of
resilience that allows him to outsmart a group of outlaws.
In earlier western films, Native Americans were viewed as savages and ethnic
groups were viewed as ignorant due to the lack of political correctness. Like most
early western films, violence was utilized in place of punishment for bad men, and as
Thomas Myers said in his article about the comparison of western films, was a means
for restoring order to the community. African Americans were not added to the cast of
characters in Stagecoach, but during the early expansion of the western frontier, there
were African Americancowboys and other settlers that came from many ethnic
groups. Another example of ignorance expressed in minority groups is the portrayal

Kenan is a talented African American author of the present era who writes about the
human condition. He not only writes about what it is like to be a black man in the
south, but he throws in homosexualityinto the bible belt. Kenan repeatedly pits
homosexual characters against an oppressive, closed minded community that is
against new views of acceptance and equality of the times. With these themes of
racial and sexual identity, forgiveness and acceptance; Kenan, perhaps one of the first
Southern authors to openly analyze the struggles of homosexuals, he subtly
intertwines common concerns and ideals from the Civil Rights Era and parallels the
Gay Rights Movement of today. (Turley)

Biography of Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla is undoubtedly one of the most influential scientists of all time. He was
born on July 10th, 1856 in Smiljan, Lika; at this time, Smiljan was located in the
Austro Hungarian Empire region of Croatia. Tesla was thought to be one of the very
few people who possessed an eidetic, or photographic, memory. He had numerous
ideas for possible inventions, which he almost never felt the need to write down. In
his lifetime he registered more than seven hundred patents around the world.2 Some
of the inventions he patented include: the alternating current, x rays, the radio, the
remote control, the electric motor, robotics, the laser, the Tesla coil, wireless
communications, and limitless free energy.3 Although Tesla is not the sole person
attributed to some of these technologies, he was the person who initially pioneered
most and greatly advanced them all. The alternating current was possibility the most
positively impactful invention ever created, while wireless communication and
limitless free energy were two of the greatest ideas ever conceived that unfortunately
he never got to bring to reality.4 The young scientist came to the United States in
1886 to work for Thomas Edison. Edison not paying Tesla here if need more While
both men worked on dynamos, Tesla found a fault in Edison s direct current and
instead favored his alternating current. The direct current maintains a one directional
energy flow that loses energy as it traverses over larger distances, while the
Criticism Of Andrew Clark An American Politician From
The...
I am sure you would agree with me when I say we cannot escape the inevitability
(in ev i ta bility) of criticism. Aristotle once said, Criticism is something we can
avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing. But I beg to
disagree because people will criticize you for saying nothing, doing nothing and
being nothing. Someone once said, Criticism is the muck in which the plants of the
Lord grow strong and no child of God should fear Criticism. Criticism has the
potential to help believers in their spiritual growth? Listen to what Frank Clark an
American politician from the early 1900s said, Criticism, like rain, should be gentle
enough to nourish a man s growth without destroying his roots.
Criticism comes in two forms, destructive and constructive. They are both self
explanatory. Nevertheless, destructive criticism has the potential for spiritual growth
but that would depend on the receiver. Destructive criticism can make us look
inwardly ask the deep question, is it true of me. If the criticism levied is true, then
do what needs to be done to correct it. If the criticism is malicious then ignore it and
make sure you do not give your critics ammunition to prove their point.
I would admit that criticism is not always easy to handle. People can be crude but
always remember we are not responsible for the actions of others. We will only
answer to God for our actions. The gospel is bigger than our feelings and has serious
implications for mankind. So
The And Multiple Personality Disorder
Hypnotherapy/Multiple Personality Disorder Hypnosis can help with therapeutic
evolvement while someone has Multiple Personality Disorder or MPD for short.
Often times many cases of MPD are found in the United States, according to Joseph
Goldberg, a doctor at webmd.com, 1 out of 100 people in the United States get
MPD per year. The subject that has MPD does not realize they have a
problem, because the subject believes that what they are seeing and feeling are
real. Many of the cases of MPD are found after the subject has uncovered the angry
personality, that most of the time will encourage them to commit a crime or harm
themselves. Which is caused because of the subject being repeatedly abused
emotionally physically and mentally at a young age. MPD is mostly used as a
coping mechanism for the subject to cope over the repeated abuse. The subject
will then have to be induced into taking Hypnotherapy to help the subject cope. If
the subject did commit a crime while having MPD, then the lawyer of the subject
will most likely plead not guilty . The lawyer of the subject will use MPD as a
defense and request that the subject go into a psychological facility instead of going
to a prison, so the subject can get the proper treatment and to stop the subject from
harming others or themselves. Many hospitals and psychologists do Rodriguez 2 In

Tank Warfare In WWII
Tank warfare WWII had lots of ups and down. There was a lot of good types of
tanks followed by some flaws. The 3 main countries with tanks was America,
Germany, and Russia. America used the sherman. The germans used the panzer.
The Russians used T 34. They all were great tanks in the war, but the they all had
some flaws. The American tank, the sherman, was an okay tank.It has good
firepower but it wasn t that good compared to all the other tanks. They had equal
firepower to the panzer. One of the good things is that they are very cheap. They

Georges Bizet Research Paper
Bizet: Struggle for Recognition
Georges Bizet born 178 years ago on this day, October 25, 2016 is primarily known
for Carmen, the immensely successful opera that scandalized Paris audiences of the
day. Although it is arguably one of the most famous operas of all time, Bizet did
not live to see it achieve recognition. In fact, his life mostly consisted of a series of
struggles, false starts, and failures. Despite this, Bizet s death had a strong emotional
impact on those he left behind, and his work had a significant impact on the music
world.
Bizet the Prodigy
Born into a musical family, Bizet was taught to read and play music at a very young
age but was always eager to learn more. He would listen in secret to advanced

Over four thousand people attended Bizet s funeral where his fellow composers
gave impassioned eulogies, some even moved to tears by the tragic event. After the
burial, they held a special performance of Carmen which the press, only months after
they judged it to be too risquГ©, heralded as a masterpiece.
Today Carmen is recognized as one of the greatest operas ever written, thrilling
audiences with its drama and emotional affect. At the Sixth Annual Festival of the
Aegean in Syros, Greece, talented performers, including Francis Bardot s Choeur d
Enfants d Ile de France, performed selections of the now famous work to the
enjoyment of the audience. Although Bizet died before his work was recognized, his
unique style and dramatic flair has had an undeniable impact on the modern world of
African Americans During The Civil War
Socially, politically, economically, African Americans were kept out of society. And
they had to scratch and bite to get whatever advantages they could. African
Americans were the main labor force; back then black children are forced to work
rather than go to school. African Americans have for the most part lost whatever
political situation they had had as a result of Reconstruction. And it was done very
brutally and it was done very systematically. Another issue was in order to make sure
that African Americans did not attempt to assert themselves in any way, whether it
was voting, whether it was trying to buy land, the white South resorted to terrorism.
And that terrorism which was a legacy that never stopped from the time of the Civil...

Essay on Home Schooling vs Public School
Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling
By: Krystal Walls

Eastern
If you have children that are school age you have probably have thought about the
options of home schooling vs. public schooling. You most likely have thought about
how much would it cost or the amount of time it takes to teach home schooling. With
the news articles out there about things that happen at schools you most likely have
thought about how that would be on your child as well. One of the last things that
most parents think about when choosing to home school or not is how your child s
social skills will develop. There are many different articles out there on this topic.
The following essay will give you an indebt description of the ... Show more content

First we have to look at the home situation. It is not a secret that not all homes are
perfect, but a structured environment can lead to healthy study habits. Now the
same can happen in a school environment for some children. So, in turn, those
children can start to act out for the stress that comes with a school environment.
When there is a healthy home environment, these children would be comfortable
and be able to focus on the task at hand. Another reason a child might not
misbehave is because they know the consequences for their actions at home. When
a child is in a public school, there might not be much that can be done when a child
misbehaves and does something that is wrong. One of the biggest influences for
children in public schools is other children. Almost everything children do is to
look cool in front of their friend or to be popular. Children will tend to misbehave
when their friends are pressuring them to do so. Peer pressure is a hard thing to
deal with for a child. When children are home schooled, there is much less pressure
to be cool and there is more time to focuses on classwork. Now one of the last
things that parents worry about for their children is how their social skills will
develop if they are home schooling their children. Most people would argue that the
children are not developing the social skills needed, because they do not interact
with other children their own age. The University of Florida s Larry Shyers,
Comparison Of The Lamb And The Tyger
Writers and authors for centuries have used different strategies to compare living
things with one another, as well as non living things with one another. During the
Romantics era, it was a time during economic destruction. People had little hope and
writers and poets began to express their emotions as well as critiques on this time
period. William Blakewas a poet as well as a painter, who wrote works that addressed
the social issues around the area in which he lived. The country dealt with several
deaths, which caused the nation to go under depression. Furthermore, the essay,

The journal article Blake s Infant Sorrow, by Ricks Carson, an english professor at
Pace Academy, enlightens, The child at the mother s breast is an archetype of
innocence, vulnerability, and spontaneous affection. Even though Carson addresses
the baby as innocent and finds the child to be a archetype relating to his mother,
the infant also can be seen as suffering. In a way, this poem is laughing at the idea
of Songs of Innocence. Blake, or the speaker, is harsh about the experience of being
a child and refuses to be handled by his parents. Blake further states that the parents
of the child treated him poorly throughout his childhood. The parents did not want
the kid and was upset that they had a child. The father cried, the mother groaned, and
the child was fussy. The poem is not very uplifting or positive, which means it fits
perfectly with Blake s collection, Songs of

Human Skull Essay
From Pompeian mosaic and Pre Columbian sculptures or reliefs, human skull
carried a symbolical meaning of death and was a source of its philosophical
contemplation and comprehension. Within long European tradition of Vanitas in
art, it served as a reminder of impermanence of life. Combined with luxurious items
and flowers, skull reiterated the inevitable transience of existence in Flemish still
lifes, reversed sides of portrait panels and ornate mirrors. It appeared in decorations
of kings tombs and church altars. Also, it was a warning symbol. Images of skull
would send the threatening messages message via Jolly Roger or criminals tattoos.

of war. Totenkopf insignia decorated SS deathsquad uniforms.... Show more content

In postmodern world, nothing is completely affirmed to its meaning. With ironic

So poor, in fact, that they are likened to developing countries. 60% of children are born out of wedlock and Native Americans are the third highest group in the country for teenage pregnancy. The suicide rate of Native American teenagers is three times that of the rest of America. Alcoholism is a big problem of reservations. Native Americans are four times more likely to die of alcoholism and 17 times more likely to die in an accident involving alcohol. In addition to this, they are twice as likely to be involved in an arrest concerning alcohol. One of the worst reservations is the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
  • 3. Response To The Good Shepherd (CIA) Name Course Number Professor name Date of Submission Response to The Good Shepherd (CIA) The Good Shepherd is a fascinating, adult film. It is an adult film not merely because of its high rating but because it depicts the difficult and problematic professional and personal life of a CIA operative with an adult, realistic approach that is rarely shown in films. In addition, The Good Shepherd tells a compelling, complex, personal and political story and tells it extremely well. The film utilizes familiar, but not essentially true to life, personalities and episodes to make political points. This essay will provide a response to the film from a political point of view. In the film, the viewers are able to follow the development of the CIA via ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I certainly don t know of any normal individual who could do that. One message that echoes right through the film is that Wilson actually never trusts anybody. He is supposedly based on an authentic CIA intelligence officer who was so paranoid and secretive that few in the CIA knew what he may have looked liked. Nevertheless, in the world of espionage, where deception must often be necessary, being distrustful must be just part of the job (Chapman and Robert 210). However, not all the employees of the Central Intelligence Agency resemble Edward Wilson. At the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, all employees seem like normal people having a normal day at their offices. Most of the workers are actually analysts and not operatives (Chapman and Robert 210). However, it strikes me that, if I am to assume that Edward Wilson is a model CIA employee, The Good Shepherd may be furthering a clichГ©. Surname 3 Important lesson learned from the Film The most essential lesson I learn from the film is that knowing the truth is important because the truth always sets you free. Furthermore, the film teaches that deception will always lead to imprisonment but the truth always leads to freedom. According to Secker et al the film

  • 5. Federal Prohibition In Canada Oh So Social, Canada! Prohibition in Canada: Worth it? March 3rd, 1924 Federal prohibition of alcohol in Canada was a controversial act and continues to be debated today. The Women s Christen Temperance Union (WCTU), founded in 1873, worked towards the prohibition of alcohol in Canada as a way to avoid abuse from alcoholic husbands. With the Wartime Elections Act in 1915, Canada began to see women more seriously in regards to their opinions, so when the WCTU began to promote the prohibition of alcohol, the federal government actually took their opinion into consideration. In January of 1918, the federal prohibition of alcohol began, which kick started an illegal alcohol business in Canada. Nevertheless, some province s laws varied, the selling ... Veering away from Laurier`s classic laisse faire economic idea, Bennett introduces Canada to Keynesian economics, as Laurier`s version was deemed unsuccessful with dealing with the depression. For those few who are employed, work week maximums and a regulated minimum wage can improve the lives of men and their families. The Wheat regulation board was created to equalize the price of wheat throughout the Canada. • 6. Bisphenol-A Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans, paints and adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, there are over three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide each year. Humans are exposed to BPA as it has the ability to hydrolyse (react with water) when catalysed by hydroxide,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, higher levels of BPA in the urine could also suggest a high consumption of packaged food. The packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat content, therefore would lead to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection Agency concludes that these studies are insufficient for use in risk assessment because of a variety of flaws in some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an inability of other researchers to reproduce the effects in standardised
  • 7. The Tradition And Society Of Indi An Impeccable... The traditions, culture and society in India have given precedence to men over women in multitude of issues concerning family, administration, decision making and several other matters of high magnitude. This gender bias has gradually taken a shape as male chauvinism, which resulted in the oppression of women and subjected them to insufferable physical, psychological, moral and ethical castigation. Women, albeit contribute equally with men in societal and domestic affairs, are not allowed to enjoy equal status with men in traditional India. Indian society has always manifested them as obedient daughters, dedicated mothers, devoted wives and loving siblings. The funniest thing in Indian culture is a mother, being a woman, alienates her daughter and manifests antagonism to her, if she makes attempts to question genderbias in her family or in society. The novel is an impeccable manifestation of post colonial period where a woman is fighting for her constitutional rights for education and power. The female protagonist Saritha in the novel acquires good education and becomes a doctor despite her mother s antipathy to girl education. She sustains her mother s antagonism to her who perpetually maltreats her with her offhand attitude to her very existence in the family as she wrongly concludes her as the murderess of her dear brother, Dhruva. Further, she is estranged from her family as she marries a person of her choice. Her husband, Manohar is a school teacher. Saritha, being a
  • 8. My Experience At The Train Station I first arrived in Spain this summer fresh off my first year at DU, traveling internationally for the first time without my family, and ready to take on this new adventure into the unknown with my friends. I knew just enough Spanish to get by, and I couldn t wait to explore the city and test the limits of my comfort. I arrived at the train station in Santander, a small cityon the northern coast of Spain, with one of my best friends from DU, Morgan. We then found other DU students traveling with us during this study abroad program, and met the program coordinator. Standing in the tiny train station, with the local Spaniards passing us by and the sliding automatic doors letting in the humid, warm air, the program coordinator explained to us the logistics of the program, some basic information about Spanish customs, and introduced us to our host families. Morgan and I were presented to our host mom and dad, an older Spanish couple named Luisi and Demetrio, we gave the customary kisses on each cheek, and then we were off. Much of the first day passed by in an overwhelming flurry of sights, sounds, smells as they drove, Luisi chatted about the city and their lives there. We arrived at a house, small by US standards, but large by European. A few chickens wandered in the yard in the front, three dogs greeted us as we approached the house, and two more were waiting inside. Everything was perfect and I was in love. However, this feeling didn t last for long. With our halting,
  • 9. The Conservation Of The Feral Pigs INTRODUCTION This model addresses the pathways in which ecological drivers are having significant influence over the natural systems of Hawaii. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the effects. We re witnessing a large increase in sea levels, which can lead to the erosion of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate change also is influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must focus on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also influences other ecosystem services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and supporting services. Specifically dealing with the presence of feral pigs we see different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances. Cultural drivers are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers. Public hunts have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of snare traps that could hurt them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want to restore native vegetation. Managers are seeking public approval and effective means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human relations are being strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver is changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems.
  • 10. Irony In Enemies The Irony in these two stories is initially expressed by their titles. At the Beginning of Enemies, Jensen and Strunk are violently opposed to one another althoguh they are fighting on the same side of a brutal war. At the end of Friends, although Jensen didn t take action to kill Strunk, he is relieved rather than aggrieved to learn of Strunk s death, although the two are supposed to now be friends. These stories represent the war s view on friendship, and how distorted that emotion becomes. O Brian implements ironyin Enemies is to show how in war even friends can or will become enemies. They are fighting for the same side, yet make each other into enemies. The second chapter is titled Friends, but Jensen s deeper thoughts convey that they
  • 11. Tiny Traditions Essay examples Introduction: First Understanding Gender The image of a daycare center exemplifies an area of play and education in one s mind. Here, a child can learn, interact, and revel solely by themselves or with others such as their peers or authority figures. Although child development at a young age is key, subliminal messages are hidden within developmental actions; in a site of early childhood education, indirect and involuntary messages about genderare heard and witnessed on a day to day basis that all children, especially infants and toddlers, are susceptible to. Toddlers and infants will recognize what defines girls and boys because of their exposure to gender as seen through the uses of gendered words, like he and she , or their toys,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literature Review: Gender Socialization Relating to Children Ideas of gender develops through socialization at a young age for many. First, to understand gender among toddlers within an educational setting, I need to address how socialization is implemented. I am going to work on Lawerence Balter s ideas of social context which states that the social context of child care, peer interactions... and peer social networks provides first hand experience and knowledge of what is gender (Balter 144). Balter s social context is related to Stanley Greenspan s work articulating the child s mind is a vulnerable piece of work that constantly molds and tends to developing patterns (Greenspan 26). Moreover, pattern recognition within the toddler s mind composes a baseline for knowledge of gender (Greenspan 27). The relationships the child forms from their peers and teachers are the foundation to a child s intelligence constituting the comprehension of gender. The context of the educational site encompasses and highlights socialization of gender among children. According to Maribeth Gettinger, she states that the power of any socialization depends on one s environment; Gettinger believes in the learning theory point of view structure which says: 1. The environment may be described in terms of its stimuli 2.Behavior may be

  • 13. A Brief Note On Down The Drain It Goes Down the Drain it Goes We have come to the conclusion that there is no more fresh water on the earth and that there is no potable water, says a news reporter. The earth could eventually end up like this. How much of the earth contains freshwater? Will the earth ever run out of water? If so, how long from now will we run out of water? What effects could this cause? All of these questions are ones that interest me greatly and that I would like to know the answers to. After taking an environmental science class in high school, I already had some prior knowledge on some areas of this topic. This knowledge includes learning about how much water there is on the earth. The part of the earth that is water is known as the hydrosphere and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, I often hear about the topics of water scarcity on the news and in articles and they bring up countries having water issues, so it encouraged me to find out more about the topic and to hopefully get my questions answered. While having many tools available for me to find secondary research for my topic, the easiest and closest source was my school s library database. On my school s library website, there is a search generator for looking up articles, books, journals, and anything you can read. This database was very helpful when it came to looking for secondary resources. All I needed to do was type in a few key words, and then read through the options that were given to me based on what I was looking for. After researching and looking through the data, I found some great articles about my topic on the fresh water on earth. However, I did have to search a few different key words and questions to find exactly what I was looking for. I explored things such as water scarcity, fresh water on earth, will the earth run out of water?, and how long from now will the earth run out of water?. All of these searches led to many different articles which then became my secondary sources which I could use to help answer my questions. I had to read through more than three articles, even though I needed at least three articles, to decide which ones seemed the most reliable and well written. My first

It should be used during any clinical procedure that bypasses the body s natural defences. Using the principles of aseptic minimises the spread of organisms from one person to another. An essential part of infection control is firstly identifying possible sources on infection, and secondly the modes by which the infection might be spread. Any infection is caused by one of four types of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and protozoa. These organisms can be carried by both the patients and the staff, and on any equipment used within the practice. They can also be transferred outside the work place where patients may come

Exactly a year later (March 2012), Wix had replaced the current use of flash to a new HTML5 site builder. Websites created before this implementation still worked using flash, but all new sites were created using the new HTML5 builder. The individuals rating the celebrities could be constantly reminded to base rates primarily on attractiveness and by asking a varying group of people to rate the individuals to get the opinion of a mock society. However, a more accurate solution to this problem would be to have surveyors rate photos of random individuals that they have more than likely never had exposure to or contact with. This would ensure that bias does not get in the way of collecting an accurate average rate of attractiveness. Incorrect measurements

Those that practice littering have a fair idea that it is wrong. But yet they tend do it without thinking. The next paragraph will describe further on such behavior of the students . According to the result everybody is trying to say that they do not want littering. The colonies development was largely influenced by the Puritans, who had helped found most of the colonies in the region after emigrating from GB. The philosophies, ideas, and values of the Puritans greatly shaped the development of the colonies in a number of distinct ways. Politically, the idea of a united, representative government that later became a staple of the US was derived from Puritanideals. Economically, the ideals of fair pricing and the celebrated Yankeefrugality and thriftiness originated from the Puritans. The Puritans greatly impacted the political development of the New England colonies. Firstly, the idea of a representative government was derived from Puritan ritual. Much as the Puritans believed the congregation should elect the reverend, the Puritans also believed that the government should get its power from the people. Rhetorical Situation When defining the Rhetorical Situation, Bitzer (1992) describes it as a network of people, circumstances, objects, and relations that stimulates discussion, which in the suitable context has the potential to alter the situation (p.6). He notes that there are three factors that constitute any rhetorical situation. The first factor is Exigence, which highlights the need to discuss about a certain issue or topic. A research summary of Corporate Responsibility Best Practices, notes that 72% of NYSE Euronext traded firms surveyed have a formal corporate responsibility programs in place (Corporate Responsibility Officer Association, 2011, p. 6). Just 20% of the surveyed firms did not view corporate responsibility as a priority, while many firms believed that ethical corporate responsibility was ingrained throughout their culture and functions. Ronald Hill and Karen Becker Olsen find that CSR projects deliver benefits to firms if there is a similarity between the corporate mission and the social initiative, perceived motivations aimed at the good, and proactive timing (Hill Becker Olsen, 2005). Poor fitting CSR initiatives are those the public perceives as implying that the firm bears fault and is reactive. A review of the literature shows the effectiveness of play therapy and the effects on academics, but little research has been done on sand tray therapy and its effectiveness. Academics Importance of Play. A popular early childhood development theme is, Learn to Play, Play to Learn . In essence, children can learn through their play. Gary Landreth, a leading developer of play therapy, states that Because children s language development lags behind their cognitive development, they communicate their awareness of what is happening in their world through play (1993, p.17). The idea is that a child will learn many different things through their play and since play is a diverse language that can be spoken by anyone it opens up their ability to learn. Since the development of counseling children began, improving academics has be emphasized. Early studies suggested that providing play therapy would increase a child s IQ and improve their ability to learn in a classroom (Blanco Ray, 2011). Since the passage of No Child Left Behind legislation, all U.S. schoolchildren are expected to meet certain academic standards within their respective grade levels and, as a result, school children are asked to work harder at younger ages (Blanco et al. 2015). Texas originally acquired its power over the nation s textbook supply because it paid 100 percent of the cost of all public school textbooks, as long as the books in question came from a very short list of board approved options. The selection process was grueling and tension filled, said Julie McGee, who worked at high levels in several publishing houses before her retirement. If you didn t get listed by the state, you got nothing. On the other side of the coin, David Anderson, who once sold textbooks in the state, said that if a book made the list, even a fairly mediocre salesperson could count on doing pretty well. The books on the Texas list were likely to be mass produced by the publisher in anticipation of those sales, so other states liked to buy them and take advantage of the economies of scale. What happens in Texas doesn t stay in Texas when it comes to textbooks, said Dan Quinn, who worked as an editor of social studies textbooks before joining the Texas Freedom Network, which was founded by Governor Ann Richards s daughter, Cecile, to counter the religious right. It is likely the case that conditions in Georgia during this time are simply not ideal for the formation of tornadoes. Note, that this is not same as saying thunderstorms are not typically formed during this time. Given the heat and humidity between June and August, this is likely the time of year where most storms form. However, during summer and early parts of fall, there is a noticeable lack of a cold front to provide the wind shear necessary for tornadoes. Prior to learning how tornadoes form, one might also be shocked to see tornadoes form so readily in January and February. These are usually cold times of the year for Georgia and cold weather is usually not conducive for thunderstorms. Incidentally, when taking into account the cold fronts and wind shear, it is not so unusual to see more tornadoes form in winter than in the summer. Notice also the trend line. The trend line fit is not exact and this would be a reasonable result. Temperature and climate condition do not change in one direction over the course of a year. This project also looked at tornado frequency during different times of the day. The result of this analysis is displayed in Figure 5. Tornado activity is usually greatest between roughly

This lead to the first major political reform of the Roman Empire. Diocletian s solution to this problem was the tetrarchy. Diocletian divide the empire into 4 territories that were all ruled by a separate leader. The tetrarchy was to help bring the empire back to the ways of the Good Emperors where the succession of power was peaceful. Diocletianwanted the Emperors to select their successors from the ranks of the nobles. • 41. The Expansion Of The Frontier And The Relationship Among... Unforgiven and Stagecoach The film Stagecoach incorporated the expansion of the frontier and the relationship among the Native Americans. The film starts with a wide view of an open valley to show the vast plain and the open frontier, introducing and getting an idea of the setting. The movie was interesting in the sense that it had more social commentary than most films. An article was written by Thomas Myers explaining the film and the unique social commentary of the film Stagecoach by stating, it depicted a sub community of individuals each representing a distinct social status in western history, and that this clash of classes and misfit characters provide a perfect set up for social commentary about diverse societies. The western hero possesses a sense of resilience that allows him to outsmart a group of outlaws. In earlier western films, Native Americans were viewed as savages and ethnic groups were viewed as ignorant due to the lack of political correctness. Like most early western films, violence was utilized in place of punishment for bad men, and as Thomas Myers said in his article about the comparison of western films, was a means for restoring order to the community. African Americans were not added to the cast of characters in Stagecoach, but during the early expansion of the western frontier, there were African Americancowboys and other settlers that came from many ethnic groups. Another example of ignorance expressed in minority groups is the portrayal

Well this house wasn t like that; at least Jim s recollection pegs its presence as anything but. It was white once, the pale lines underneath the siding edge showed that. Power, excitement and personality right their ahead of Fred and little Jimmy, so unlike the stench of the gasoline and the noise, then the diesel engines with even greater clatter that followed the seasons past the horses fall from grace. With the clay loam earth clawed away by sharp nails on the forefront of the cur, to make a home to loaf, a hollowing below the surface of the hot ground to find coolness and comfort. How in hell can ol cur dog laugh in all this scramble and confusion, Jimmy wonders. Can t this damn dog feel how hot it is through all that hair? What is there to laugh about? He was born on July 10th, 1856 in Smiljan, Lika; at this time, Smiljan was located in the Austro Hungarian Empire region of Croatia. Tesla was thought to be one of the very few people who possessed an eidetic, or photographic, memory. He had numerous ideas for possible inventions, which he almost never felt the need to write down. In his lifetime he registered more than seven hundred patents around the world.2 Some of the inventions he patented include: the alternating current, x rays, the radio, the remote control, the electric motor, robotics, the laser, the Tesla coil, wireless communications, and limitless free energy.3 Although Tesla is not the sole person attributed to some of these technologies, he was the person who initially pioneered most and greatly advanced them all. The alternating current was possibility the most positively impactful invention ever created, while wireless communication and limitless free energy were two of the greatest ideas ever conceived that unfortunately he never got to bring to reality.4 The young scientist came to the United States in 1886 to work for Thomas Edison. • 45. Criticism Of Andrew Clark An American Politician From The... I am sure you would agree with me when I say we cannot escape the inevitability (in ev i ta bility) of criticism. Aristotle once said, Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing. But I beg to disagree because people will criticize you for saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing. Someone once said, Criticism is the muck in which the plants of the Lord grow strong and no child of God should fear Criticism. Criticism has the potential to help believers in their spiritual growth? Listen to what Frank Clark an American politician from the early 1900s said, Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man s growth without destroying his roots. Criticism comes in two forms, destructive and constructive. They are both self explanatory. Nevertheless, destructive criticism has the potential for spiritual growth but that would depend on the receiver. Destructive criticism can make us look inwardly ask the deep question, is it true of me. If the criticism levied is true, then do what needs to be done to correct it. If the criticism is malicious then ignore it and make sure you do not give your critics ammunition to prove their point. I would admit that criticism is not always easy to handle. People can be crude but always remember we are not responsible for the actions of others. We will only answer to God for our actions. The gospel is bigger than our feelings and has serious implications for mankind. So

With the news articles out there about things that happen at schools you most likely have thought about how that would be on your child as well. One of the last things that most parents think about when choosing to home school or not is how your child s social skills will develop. There are many different articles out there on this topic. The following essay will give you an indebt description of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First we have to look at the home situation. It is not a secret that not all homes are perfect, but a structured environment can lead to healthy study habits. Now the same can happen in a school environment for some children. So, in turn, those children can start to act out for the stress that comes with a school environment. When there is a healthy home environment, these children would be comfortable and be able to focus on the task at hand. Another reason a child might not misbehave is because they know the consequences for their actions at home. When a child is in a public school, there might not be much that can be done when a child misbehaves and does something that is wrong. One of the biggest influences for children in public schools is other children. Almost everything children do is to look cool in front of their friend or to be popular. Children will tend to misbehave when their friends are pressuring them to do so. Peer pressure is a hard thing to deal with for a child. When children are home schooled, there is much less pressure to be cool and there is more time to focuses on classwork. Now one of the last things that parents worry about for their children is how their social skills will develop if they are home schooling their children. Most people would argue that the children are not developing the social skills needed, because they do not interact with other children their own age. The University of Florida s Larry Shyers,
