This document is a presentation about Herbert Hoover and his presidency during the Great Depression. It discusses Hoover's belief in laissez-faire economics and his failure to adequately address the Depression through federal assistance programs. As unemployment rose and banks closed, Hoover signed protectionist trade policies that worsened the situation. His presidency was defined by images of bread lines and homeless encampments. While Hoover had some accomplishments prior to becoming president, his legacy is largely seen as a failure to properly respond to the economic crisis.
