Herbals in Dentistry
Introduction
• The history of herbal medicines is as old as the history
of healing itself.
• Only in the past fifty years, with the increase in
synthetic drug manufacture and the medical promise of
a drug to cure every ailment, has the use of botanicals
as medicines taken a back seat to prescription of
manufactured pharmaceuticals

INTERACTION BETWEEN HERBALS

 The quality, purity and strength of herbal remedies can

The drying and processing procedures used
Formulation and manufacturing of the dose.
Herbals in Dentistry

RESEARCH IN HERBAL MEDICINE
 For the past forty years, researchers have been trying to
isolate the "active" constituent of a plant.
 As a result, the exact mechanism of action for a number
of plants has been elucidated and the understanding of
phytomedicines expanded.
Herbals in Dentistry
 With the ability to standardize herbs — that is, to
accurately measure the exact percent of active
constituents within an herbal product — a new range of
herbal medicines are now available to the public.
 With natural substances being non-patentable,
pharmaceutical companies are loathe to spend the
necessary research money to provide adequate
research because the development money spent is non-
recoverable.

Conclusion
• Science is a double-edged sword and its
enormous influence means that we must begin
to realize and address the long-term
consequences of our technology. Yet, both
technology and nature must be combined
wisely.
Herbals in Dentistry
 The purpose of herbal treatment is not to take the
place of necessary orthodox medical treatment.
Combination of the both is a better choice.
 Herbal treatment designed to stop pain and improve
symptoms, correct imbalance and adjust immune
system, prevent and treat later diseases and/or
complications, prevent relapse, and most importantly,
to boost energy and strong body for better health and
quality of life.
