The study was conducted to determine the hematological parameters of three strains of the Nigerian indigenous cocks. A total of 15 sexually matured (14-18 month of age) breeders cocks comprising (5 normal feathered, 5 frizzled feathered and 5 naked neck) were used for the experiment. The study was conducted from October to December 2016 at the Teaching and Research Farm University of Maiduguri. Blood samples were collected from 9 breeder’s cocks which were randomly selected 3 per genotype and used for hematological parameters examination. Hematological examination such as Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Red Blood Cell ( RBC) , Haemoglobin (Hb), White Blood Cell (WBC), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin concentration ( MCHC), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH) and Mean Corpuscular Volume ( MCV) showed significant (P<0.05)> 0.05) different between normal feathered and frizzle feathered but there is significant difference ( P< 0.05) with naked necked cock. Neutrophil ( N) showed significant (P<0.05)>0.05) difference between normal feathered and naked neck feathered , fizzle feathered and necked neck respectively but showed significant (P<0.05) difference between fizzle feathered and normal feathered respectively for M and E. the study concluded that variation in the heamatoloical parameters between three strains of local chicken in Nigeria is due to difference in their genetic makeup.

Corn is a drought-sensitive crop their yield is influenced at every single phase of growth and development by limited water availability. Corn. A total of 90 accessions were screened and evaluated at different water levels 100% (T1), 40% (T2) and 30% (T3) of field capacity (FC). Evaluation of corn genotypes was done against six seedling parameters (root length, shoot length, fresh root weight, fresh shoot weight, dry root weight and dry shoot weight). The analysis of variance indicated that all the traits under all water levels revealed significantly and the principal component analysis depicted diverse results for different treatments. The results showed that the genotypes Lala Musa, Akbar, Sahiwal-2002, Sultan, Pearl, 15005,15077,14972,15110 under 100% FC level performed well and genotypes 14933,15023,14968,15055, 15005, MMRI yellow, Lala Musa, Pearl, Akbar, Akhgoti, 15067 and Sultan under 40% FC and the genotypes Desi Fsd, 15075, Lala Musa, 14930, 14976, 15132, 15048, Sultan and 15005 performed best in 30% FC. Some corn genotypes Akhgoti, Lala Musa, Sultan, and 15005 performed better under all three water levels. The information on seedling parameters is best suited to screen viable genotypes for baseline information for on-ward corn breeding and research programs on water stress tolerance.

Twenty sexually matured (24 weeks old) healthy Harco cocks were used to determine the effect of Gonadotrophin (Diclair®) on haematology and serum biochemistry. The cocks were divided into 4 treatment groups of 5 cocks per group identified as T1 (control) administered with 1ml physiological saline, T2, administered with 6.75i.u Diclair® and T4, administered with 20.25i.u Diclair®, with one cock per replicate in a completely Randomized Design (CRD). The injections were dividedinto three doses each and administered intramuscularly in the thigh for three consecutive days. One week after Diclair® treatments, five birds from each group were bled from the wing veins for haematology and serum biochemistry. Results of this study showed significant differences (P<0.05)>0.05) among the treatment groups. Basophils were not detected among the treatment groups. The results further showed significant differences (P<0.05)>0.05) among the treatment groups. However, the values were within the normal ranges, indicating that Diclair® had no deleterious effect on these parameters.

Seroprevalence of Peste des Petits Ruminants in Traditional Goats Reared in N...Premier Publishers
This study aims at determining the prevalence of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in goats reared traditionally in northern Côte d’Ivoire villages. For that, serum samples collected from 171 goats randomly selected from five localities in the Departement of Korhogo and tested the presence of anti-PPRV antibodies by a Competitive Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (c-ELISA). Overall, seroprevalence of PPR in the area was 36.26% (62/171). All the localities sampled had at least one PPR-positive animal. Age and sex of the animals were not significantly (p>0.05) associated with the infection; however, localities of sampled animals, showed significant (p<0.05) association with PPR virus-infection in goats. It is then concluded that there is high seroprevalence of PPR in traditional raised goats in northern Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, vaccination campaigns against PPR are advocated to prevent the transmission and spread of PPR in the area.

Abstract— Twelve Ouda rams aged 2 – 2.6 years and weighed between 40.21 – 40.32kg were randomly distributed into 3 groups of 4 animals with one ram per replicate in a completely randomized design and used to determine the effect of Pergonal® on haematology and serum biochemistry. These groups were assigned to 3 levels of Pergonal® injection as treatments. The injections were 0.00i.u, 49.50i.u, and 99.00i.u Pergonal® represented as T1 (control), T2, and T3, respectively. All the treatments were administered by intramuscular injections. The injections were divided into three doses each and administered intramuscularly in the thigh for three consecutive days. The results of the study showed that apart from Alanine transaminase and eosinophils, the haematological and serum biochemical parameters and immune status of ouda rams may be affected when 49.50i.u or more of Pergonal are used for induction of spermatogenesis. These parameters should be constantly monitored during pergonal administration in ouda rams.

A 4-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the performance and blood profiles of finisher broilers fed cashew pulp meal (CPM) based diets. 135 finisher broilers, “Arbor acre” strain was randomly allocated to five dietary treatments consisting of three replicates of 9 finisher broilers each. Five on-farm diets containing 0 (control), 10, 20, 30, and 40% CPM replacing maize coded as T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5, respectively, were formulated. All performance parameters measured were significantly different (P < 0.05). Final weight, daily weight gain (DWG), daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio, mortality, feed cost/kg gain (feed cost/kg gain), and cost of 1 kg feed ranged from 1042.54 to 1305.55g, 16.31 to 28.51g, 91.86 to 110.54g, 3.26 to 5.56, 0 to 22.22%, 115.43 to 135.46, and 414.23 to 611.43, respectively. Hematological profile show that packed cell volume varied from 28.67 to 31.00%, hemoglobin (Hb) 9.07 to 10.60g/dl, red blood cell 1.80 to 2.31 × 106/μl, white blood cell 213.13 to 223.67 × 103/μl, mean corpuscular volume 132.27 to 134.87 fl, means corpuscular Hb (MCH) concentration 29.80 to 31.63 g/dl, and MCH 40.10 to 41.87 pg, respectively, and were significantly (P < 0.05) different. Treatments showed significant difference (P < 0.05) all serum parameters, the obtained values were total protein 4.25–4.92 g/dl, albumin 1.73–2.37 g/dl, aspartate aminotransferase 102.33–135.67 μ/l, alanine aminotransferase 4.00–7.33 μ/l, and total cholesterol 2.37–3.73 Mmol/l. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of thermal stress on haematological profile and carcass yield of guinea fowl (GF). A total of 180 one-day old GF keets were assigned to 3 treatments, having 4 replicates of 15 birds each. The treatments were: control (T1); mild heat stress for 6h/day (T2), and high heat stress for 8h/day (T3). Data were collected on weekly body weights, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of the birds. At 6-weeks old, blood samples were collected from 8 GF for determination of haematological profile. At 14-weeks old, 8 birds were also slaughtered per treatment to evaluate relative organ weights, carcass characteristics and immune response. Results showed that the body weight gain and feed intake of the birds of T1 and T2 were similar and significantly higher than that of T3 at week 1 of age. The FCR of the birds in T1 and T2 were also better at this stage. Lymphocyte counts were higher (p<0.01) in the birds of T2 (95 103/mL) than those of the control (93.33 103/mL) and T3 (93.33 103/mL). The weights of lymphoid organs of T2 and T3 birds were higher (p<0.05) than those of the control group. It was concluded that exposure of keets to heat stress for 8h/day had adverse effects on growth performance at the early age but this effect faded with age. The thermal manipulation in this study didn’t influence the carcass yield but improved the weights of lymphoid organs of indigenous GF, indicating a better thermo-tolerance.

Molecular Identification of Bulinus Species in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria...AI Publications
The study considers the distribution of a small sample of 100 Bulinus snails, across 8 localities within Ogun State, Nigerian. Snails were identified using a molecular method of fragment and restriction profiles obtained from ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (its) amplicons. The results showed that the majority of Bulinus samples tested belonged to the species Bulinustruncatus while only one was Bulinusglobosus. The use of Rsa1 restriction endonuclease to cleave the ribosomal its of Bulinus, as a method of species identification, was adopted for the majority of samples, this being a quicker and cheaper method better suited to small laboratory environments. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the schistosome Dra1 repeat within each of the collected Bulinus samples was employed to determine the extent and distribution of infected snails within the sample areas. Abstract— Strains found among Tswana chicken population include the naked neck, dwarf, frizzled, rumpless and normal-feathered (normal). Internal and external egg quality characteristics and phenotypic correlations among egg quality traits in different strains of Tswana chickens under intensive management have never been evaluated. The study was conducted to determine the internal and external egg quality characteristics of the naked neck, normal and dwarf strains of Tswana chicken. A total of 200, 185 and 175 eggs were collected from the naked neck, normal and dwarf strains, respectively, for external and internal egg quality analysis. No significant differences in albumin height, albumen pH and yolk pH were found between the strains. The naked neck strain however produced eggs with the highest egg weight, albumen weight, albumen content, egg volume and egg surface area and the lowest yolk content. The dwarf strain had the lowest egg weight, albumin weight, egg volume, and egg surface area and the highest egg shell thickness.All the three strains of Tswana chicken produced eggs of acceptable quality. The naked neck strain however had the best egg quality characteristics, followed by the normal strain and lastly the dwarf strain. Of the three strains, the naked neck strain had the strongest correlation coefficients among external and internal egg quality characteristics and between external and internal egg quality characteristics. Egg weight was positively and highly correlated with other egg quality traits such as egg length, egg width, egg volume, egg surface area, albumen weight and yolk weight in the three strains of Tswana chicken. Selection for higher egg weight is likely to lead to the greatest improvements in other egg quality characteristics (both internal and external) in the naked neck than in the normal and dwarf strains.

serum at a dose of 1 ml intramuscularly/bird/day and group l was treated with both Kadhaknath serum and
Bromocriptine at doses given to group j and k for the period of 15 March, 2019 to 16 June, 2019 and egg
production, stopped days, prolactin level, hematological parameter and egg qualities were observed. A
significant increase (p<0.05) in Egg production was noticed in all treated groups in comparison to the groups
which were in non- treated control and group k showed the highest production. All treatment groups depicted a
significant decrease (p<0.05) in stopped days and prolactin levels and lowest were observed in hens of group l.
In hematological values between the chicken group, no significant differences were noticed. The present study
reveals that combined treatment with Bromocriptine and serum from laying kadhaknath hen increases egg
production without affecting the health of indigenous chickens.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks

Abstract— The study was conducted to determine the
hematological parameters of three strains of the Nigerian
indigenous cocks. A total of 15 sexually matured (14-18
month of age) breeders cocks comprising (5 normal
feathered, 5 frizzled feathered and 5 naked neck) were used
for the experiment. The study was conducted from October
to December 2016 at the Teaching and Research Farm
University of Maiduguri. Blood samples were collected
from 9 breeder’s cocks which were randomly selected 3 per
genotype and used for hematological parameters
examination. Hematological examination such as Packed
Cell Volume (PCV), Red Blood Cell ( RBC) , Haemoglobin
(Hb), White Blood Cell (WBC), Mean Corpuscular
Haemoglobin concentration ( MCHC), Mean Corpuscular
Haemoglobin (MCH) and Mean Corpuscular Volume (
MCV) showed significant (P<0.05) different among breeds.
Lymphocyte (L) showed no significant (P> 0.05) different
between normal feathered and frizzle feathered but there is
significant difference ( P< 0.05) with naked necked cock.
Neutrophil ( N) showed significant (P<0.05) different
among the breed. Monocyte ( M) and Eosinophil (E)
showed no significant (P>0.05) difference between normal
feathered and naked neck feathered , fizzle feathered and
necked neck respectively but showed significant (P<0.05)
difference between fizzle feathered and normal feathered
respectively for M and E. the study concluded that variation
in the heamatoloical parameters between three strains of
local chicken in Nigeria is due to difference in their genetic
makeup.

I. INTRODUCTION
In many species of birds especially chicken, normal values
for hematological parameters were measured and a
comprehensive data base was established of their blood
profile. Comparative measurements for diverse species of
birds could be lead to the different statement of immune
system in these birds (Simaraks et al., 2004; Pampori et al.,
2007; ladokum et al., 2008 and Melesse., 2011). The
Nigerian indigenous chicken breeds have been reported to
have many advantageous gene complexes that could be
harnessed in the development of meat or egg type chicken
suitable for use in the tropics (Machebe and Ezekwe, 2004).
Among these major genes are the Naked necked, Frizzled
and Normal feathered (Ibe 1998). In the other hand, many
researchers have evaluated normal hematological parameter
of industrial and commercial hybrid chickens (Melluzzi et
al., 1992; Taleb et al., 2005). Information about
hematological parameters of indigenous chickens are
limited therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the
haematological parameters of three strains of indigenous
chickens.
II. MATERIALS AND METHOD
A total of fifteen (15 ) local breeder cocks which are
sexual matured (14 – 18 months) of age, comprising three
strains of indigenous cocks (5 Frizzle, 5 Normal feathered
and 5 Naked Neck ) were obtained from local farmers
within Borno state and were used for the experiment. The
study was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of
the Department of Animal Science, University of
Maiduguri, Borno state. Maiduguri is situated within the
semi arid region of Nigeria which lies within the Sahel zone
of West Africa. Borno state lies within latitude 100° and
140° N longitude 110° 30′ and 140° 45′ E. (NPC, 2006).
The experimental birds were acclimatized for two weeks
during which they were monitored and screened.
Conventional management practice were observed
throughout the study period Blood samples were collected
from the wing vein of the birds using a 2 ml disposable
syringe and directly transferred into a labeled bottle
containing EDTA Ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid)
anticoagulant. It was immediately used for measuring the
haematological parameters such as red blood cells (RBC),
white blood cells (WBC), haemoglobin (HB), packed cell
volume (PVC), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean

Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH), Mean Corpuscular
Haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), Neutrophil (N)
,Lymphocytes (L) Monocyte (M) , EosinophlI (E) and
Basopyles ( B). Data collected on blood were subjected to
one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS
statistical package version 16. Separation of significant
means was done using the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test
(Steel and Torrie, 1980).
III. RESULTS

The results of hematological parameters of three strain of
local chicken (Normal feather, Naked neck and Frizzled
feather chicken) are presented in Table 1. The parameters
considered are RBC, WBC, Hb, PCV , MCV, MCHC,
MCH, L, N, M and E among the breeds. There is a
significant variation in hematological parameters across
breeds in PCV, HB, RBC, MCHC, and MCH in this study.
The naked necked cock had the highest value in RBC ( x

/L ) and WBC (x1012
/10L ) than normal feathered and
frizzle feathered cock. These results agreed with the report
of Ajayi et al. (2014). Hb (g/dl) of naked neck cock
indicated highest value of 12.36g/dl, this value is higher
than the result obtained by Sharmin et al. (2004). The
variation in result might be due to management practice or
environment which the bird are exposed to .The PCV
valued (40%) of frizzles feather cock obtained from this
study revealed higher value than the result obtained by
Ajayi et al.( 2014) and Sharmin et al.(2004). Although the
result showed no significant (P> 0.05) different. The MCV (
fl) mean value obtained in this research is lower than the
result obtained by (Ajayi et al.,2004; Sharmin et al., 2004;
Iheukhthemere et al..2006). The variation might be due to
season or environment. MCHC ( g/dl) value obtained from
this experiment agreed with Ajayi et al. ( 2014), naked
necked with highest valued of 32.52, followed by normal
feathered cock and frizzle feathered cock with
corresponding mean values of 31.24 and 28.47 respectively.
MCH (pg) the mean value obtained was not significant (
P>0.05) different among the strain used for this study,
although the mean value for all the breed was lower than the
result obtained by Ajayi et al.(2004) and sharmin et
al.(2004). The lymphocyte ( L) showed no significant
different ( P > 0.05) between the normal feathered and
frizzle feathered while it showed significant (P<0.05)
different in naked necked cocks. Neutrophil (N) of the
normal feathered cock revealed the highest value followed
by the frizzled feathered and naked neck cock respectively
with the corresponding mean value of 30.66%, 30.33% and
30.00% respectively. Monocyte (M) of the normal feathered
and naked necked cock showed the highest values followed
by the frizzle feathered with corresponding mean values of
10.33% and 9.33% respectively. Eiosinophil (E) of frizzle
feathered and naked necked cock has the highest values of
9.33%, while the normal feathered cock showed lower
value of 8.33%.
IV. DISCUSSION
The haematological parameters of chicken are significance
to reflect inherent genetic differences amongst the breeds of
chicken (Agaie and Uko, 1998). The variation in the
haematological parameters between strains in some
situation might be due to season, species, immune system,
and poor nutrition especially protein deficiency (Oladele et
al., 2001; Adejumo, 2004). The variation in this study
might be due to strains and genotype differences since all
the cocks are exposed to the same environment. El-Safty et

al. (2006) reported the superiority of the naked neck gene in
PCV compared to that of the fully feathered. The author
further stated that this could be a boost to the growth and
productive life of the former. Haematological and serum
biochemical values could be utilized in crossbreeding
programmes in order to produce individuals that are fit and
more productive (Ladokun et al., 2008). Genetic differences
exist in all farm animals which lead to variability in the
reproductive and performance abilities of animals both
within, and between breeds. Differentiating this variability
could be a basis for selection and subsequent genetic
improvement of farm animals. Biochemical polymorphism
study is one way of delineating genetic variation in animals
(Egena and Aloa, 2012). This information may aid selection
of superior animals within and between breeds for genetic
improvement of desired traits (Bibinu et al., 2016). Since
the main goal in animal breeding is to select individuals that
have high breeding values for traits of interest as parents to
produce the next generation and to do so as quickly as
possible (Dekker, 2012). Haematological parameters might
be used as a tool for selection.
V. CONCLUSION
The study concluded that haematogical parameters variation
in this study might be due to gene in local breed of chicken.
This will aid in planning breeding programme for selection
of economic traits.
