Republic of Korea. It was General Thurman, the USFK Commander, who put this

power. For real time requirements of multimedia applications faster computations
need to be performed. To fulfill such requirements of video compression a parallel
computational algorithm can be implemented. In this thesis, the parallelism of multi
core architecture was exploited using block matching algorithm. The test
implementation of the algorithm was done on MATLAB. The parallel model was
designed using OpenMP and its implementation was tested on multi core
architectures. The parallel implementation divides a current frame into independent
macro blocks and each block is allotted to OpenMP section which then assigns it to a
thread for performing the computations. The result of the implementation shows
speedier computations with effective utilization of multi cores. This work suggests a
promising approach which can further be developed and exploited. Keywords motion

Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a story that has been told and taught thousands of
times as it is viewed as a highly specific portrait of American society during the
roaring twenties. Modernism is described as a philosophical movement that, along
with cultural trends and changes, arose from wide scale and far reaching
transformations in Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Fitzgerald used modernism to help create a visualization for the reader to better
understand the characters life and everything that comes along it with the time
period. The imagery provided by Fitzgerald reflects off of a character, J. Gatsby,
who went from rags to riches which mirrors Fitzgerald s life as he also went
through the roller coaster of life s up and downs. The reader gets a blend of imagery
that includes the modernism from the period and Fitzgerald s special iceberg
principle which allows the readers to create their own conclusions on the

In The Diary of Lady Murasaki, translated and introduced by Richard Bowring, the
author of the diary, Lady Murasaki, writes about her daily life as a lady in waiting
for Japanese royalty. It is set in the Heian Period, which is a relatively stable and
peaceful time in Japanese history. She uses various poetry and fashion throughout
her stories to demonstrate how this was the only way for women at that time to
express themselves. Her details about her live are vibrant and comprehensive. She
talks in detail about the events that the ladies attended, the things they wore, and
even the places they stood even on the wall. (Murasaki, 65) Most of her diary is
simply recording what is happening around her, but sometimes she will talk about
how she is feeling. Especially in regards to court life and how it is very difficult.
Poetry was a prevalent form of expression or escape for women in the court. Many
times women would not be allowed to speak their minds, but when they used
poetry they could say how they really felt about something. For example, in the
first pages of the diary, Lady Murasaki references a time when His Excellency
surprised her and was standing very near, and he asked her for a poem. She takes
the opportunity to talk about how the garden they are in makes her feel, which
typically would not be something women could tell him, but with the use of poetry
she could. (Murasaki, 4) Lady Murasaki was very pessimistic about court life. She
