Never criticise a woman s choice of attire, especially her shoes, no matter how unsuitable to the

My Book Retell I Have Chosen The Hobbit By J.k. R. Tolkien
For My book retell I have chosen The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It takes place in the
fictional land of Middle Earth, where Elves and dwarves roamed the lands and much darker
creatures too, such as Trolls and Goblins. Our tale starts off like this. In a hole in the ground,
there lives a Hobbit . Hobbits are a simple folk who rarely wander beyond their little town of
Baggend. They are no taller than a human child, but they eat like giants. They love eating so much,
they have seven meals a day. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner
and supper. They have a mop of curly hair on there head and big furry feet. That brings us to the
main protagonist, Bilbo Baggins. Throughout the story he is accompanied by Thirteen dwarves,
lead by Thorin Oakenshield, and the wizard, Gandalf the Grey. There are many antagonists in this
story including goblins, trolls, elves, and even humans, but the main conflict is with Smaug, the fire
breathing dragon, who has stolen Thorin s kingdom.
Hobbits in Baggend rarely have anything close to an adventure, since they would have to leave
the comfort of their warm hobbit hole. Bilbo Baggins, never in his wildest dreams, would find
himself hunting dragons next to dwarves and wizards. However, one day, while he was smoking
his pipe of tobacco, he heard a knock on his gate. It was Gandalf. He wondered if Bilbo wanted to
take part in an adventure. Bilbo quickly urged the wizard away saying he wanted nothing to do

Developing Good Business Sense
DEVELOPING GOOD BUSINESS SENSE
The three companies that I choose for this project was Burger King, Barnes Noble, and
McDonalds. I observed how the employees do their tasks. I will discuss the main kinds of OMM
costs companies have and how does this affect their OMM operations. Also will be discussing how
do companies design their operating systems to give them a competitive advantage. I will identify
which five main components of operations and materials management costs and the methods
companies use to reduce them.
The primary goal of the operations manager is creating happy and loyal customers. By effectively
analyzing and managing their business s operations, they created the right products with the right
features at the right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To keep distribution costs low they have Soda Company s ship out just syrup and they mix it
with water later. Also each company has their own trademark supplier they use like BK uses
Heinz. The two restaurants use a lot of products in house to keep their operation cost down. The
restaurant both used mass production as their form of operating system by developing a
machine to quickly and inexpensively make their food. When their menu changed to introduce
their new line of healthy foods the company s thousands of restaurant managers had to be
retrained, and they had to retrain all of the employees. They also both have installed clocks in
their restaurants to show customers and employees the time it takes to complete an order, these
in turned increase the speed of the service. The employees are organized the same in the
restaurant by communicate. If there is a problem to fix it or a special order they talk to each
other to make sure it is right. Wrong food is wasted money. To keep labor cost low they schedule
their employees based on data of their store. They know when they need extra help for the lunch
rush and for how long. The employees are working in teams. The cooks, baggers, and the front line,
this keeps everyone organize.
The operations in any business covers the universal goal is customer satisfaction, which is achieved
through improving quality, efficiency and ultimately reducing

The Endocrine System And The Nervous System
The endocrine system and the nervous system are essential organ systems in the human body. Both
of the systems have a critical role of transmitting information as well as promoting regulated
functions in the body. The endocrine system is responsible for secreting hormones to regulate the
body s organs and cells. The nervous systemis accountable for sending signals to other cells in the
body to allow the body to react such as making the muscles move (eNotes, 18 September 2012). An
example of the endocrine systemwould be the process of growth and development. An example of
the nervous system would be if one was to touch a hot stove, they would pull back their hand and
the nerves in the body would send pain signals to the brain. This essay will discuss the similarities
and differences of the endocrine system and the nervous system for healthcare providers.... Show

The endocrine system glands produce hormones in the body to allow the body to regulate many
functions such as sleeping, metabolism, reproduction, growth, development and it regulates the
body s behavior. The endocrine system has an impact on almost all of the organs in the human body
(Zimmermann, K.A., 11 March 2016).
The nervous system is made of two systems which consist of the central nervous system and the
peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system is composed of the brain, spinal cord, and
the nerves in the body. The peripheral nervous system is composed of nerves and a bundle of nerve
cells called ganglia, which is located on the outside of the spinal cord and the brain. The nervous
system is responsible for controlling and communicating with other parts in the body to maintain
blood pressure, breathing, and other essential functions to carry out an ordinary lifestyle

The Disabled Athlete “Does” have an Unfair Advantage Essay
The article, The Disabled Athlete has an Unfair Advantage, by Amby Burfoot, is a poorly
written, research deficient article, in need of accurate, unbiased supporting facts. The article is
written about Oscar Pistorius a double below knee amputee that competed but failed to qualify
for the Beijing Olympics, after a lengthy court case. (Robinson) This unsatisfactorily written
article has merit to the opinion, however, the author sounded as if he was a first time writer for a
school newspaper. The facts used in the paper seem as if they were researched by asking someone
who knows, someone who knows someone who is an amputee. Writing with this apparent
ignorance, and recklessness can only lead to a larger divide between the two sides of... Show more

Mr. Pistorius trained hard to get to the point he is at currently. When Jesse Owens set a long
jump world record 26 feet, 8 inches in 1935, he was wearing the a shoe concurrent with the
times; and when Mike Powell, in 1991 leapt 29.4 ft he was wearing modern light weight
synthetic component shoes. (Encyclopedia Britannica) Using Mr. Burfoot s logic Mike Powell
did not need to train he just had better equipment, and by default if any other athlete in any sport
gets any equipment that could improve performance they will not need to train to compete at a
higher level, its the equipment. The amount of athletic skill and intense training it takes for
someone with below the knee amputations, to get to a level where you can walk is more than
Mr. Burfoot could ever imagine. Learning to run is another category altogether. He shows his
lack of knowledge most with the low quality of the writing and with a lackluster approach to a
controversial subject. The writing and tone of this article give the impression of an uninformed
bigot tap dancing around a controversial subject trying not to get dirty. He starts early in the
article with, I know I d be smart to ignore the bait and leave this subject alone, but; this line alone
says, this is a controversial subject, but I am going give you what I think, no apologies. Mr.
Burfoot then goes to explain about how Mr. Pistorius was granted the right to compete, and

Virgin In A Tree
This poem was written in 1958, after Sylvia Plath left her job at Smith College to write for a
living. It was during this time she found writing extremely difficult and resorted to set themes
and deliberate exercises in style, in her efforts to find a release. The poem is based on a drawing
quot; The Virgin in a Tree quot; by Paul Klee. Sylvia Plath expresses her feelings about the concept
of virginity, virgins etc. She holds their morals and values accountable, for what they believe to be
right and what they believe to be wrong.
Sylvia Plath uses great many mythical allusions to illustrate her perceptions about virgins,
especially in Ancient Greek mythology, many of which have been a direct bearing on the title of
the poem; Virgin in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
root to top
Unfaced, unformed, the nipple flowers
Shrouded to suckle darkness?
Part of this, she believes, is in the belief of others that virginity is a sign of purity and holiness; for
it is only them that talk tediously in the praise of; virgins for virginity s sake.
This is also a significant image in her poem, the religious images that are supposedly to symbolize
holiness and purity are employed by Plath as a means of mockery;
And put on barks nun black habit which deflects
Who keep cool and holy make
A sanctum to attract
Green virgins, consecrating limb and lip
To chastity s service: like prophets, like preachers,
In Plath s point of view, the reason virginity is given the meaning it is today, is due to the fact
that virginity is declared sacred and pledged to sexual abstinence in the name of all that is holy.
This underlines her faith in a woman s role as a partner in marriage, as a wife, mother, daughter
especially in a family. She thinks that virginity does not deserve the fame and glory it has, in fact
it will ultimately lead to the spoil of a woman s soul, how the essence will be destroyed if they are
kept prisoners and constricted.
She, ripe and unplucked, s
Lain splayed too long in the tortuous boughs: overripe
Now, dour faced,
Askew, she ll ache and wake
Though doomsday bud. Neglect s
Given her lips that lemon tasting droop:
Untongued, all beauty s bright juice sours.

Chocolate Is An Unhealthy Snack
Chocolate is a famous treat among many households in America and the rest of the world. This
confection that has been around for ages started from the same processes that made the
chocolate that is eaten today. It is often thought to be an unhealthy snack can also be beneficial
to daily life. Although the choice of milk or dark can be overwhelming there are some pros and
cons for each. Chocolate is a delicious treat that can be beneficial yet enjoyable to one s health

A bean is the beginning of all chocolate and chocolate based products found today. Cocoa, also
referred to as cacao after the tree, comes from the cacao plant (Elaine) that is usually grown in
plantations near the equator and low latitude areas (Castelvecchi)(History). They are planted in
the shade provided by much larger trees, such as bananas and mangoes; a mature cocoa is
estimated to produce around five pounds of chocolate a year (History). Cacao farmers use
agroforestry, which intertwines the practices of agriculture with the natural ways of the forest.
They also use sustainable methods where they plant tall, favorable crops that are native to the
area and give cover to the cacao tree for its needed shade; these crops not only give shade to the
trees but also provide other natural resources, such as fruit, rubber, wood, etc. The cacao trees
grow well in the shade farms just like they do in a rain forest, while also providing a place for
wildlife to roam freely like they do in their natural habitat, and serving as a buffer between
forests and developed regions. Some forty to fifty million people rely on cocoa as their means of
living. Farmers earn more income from crops than they did before, due in part to the World Cocoa
Foundation (WCF). Since farmers incomes are increasing, there is more improvement in
communities as well as promoting better nutrition and schools for children (The Story). The cacao
bean may only be just a bean

Self Destruction In Macbeth
The quest for self fulfillment can lead some to their own destructions when these individuals cannot
compromise their goals. Shakespeare uses characters within the play Macbeth to draw attention to
the dangers of relentlessly pursuing the goal of happiness while also presenting the few that have
the ability to compromise their needs as those who ultimately triumph. The idea of constantly
pursuing a goal no matter the consequences or the actions necessary to succeed will only lead to
the self destruction of that individual described by the play Macbeth. Shakespeare reveals
characters that embody their ambitions completely to the full extent where they create a false face
(that will) hide what the heart (really) know(s) (Act 1, scene vii)

Compare And Contrast Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai and Claudette Colvin both grew up in very painful conditions. Although their
endings were very different, they both became better because of them. They also show us that the
best way to respond to conflict is to not back down even in extreme situations. These real people
showed us how they didn t back down and, eventually, with hard work and courage, they made the
world a better place.
Malala Yousafzai s story starts when she was around eleven years old. Education for girls and

Locavore Movement Essay
The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last
decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn t travel long
distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat
and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on
where our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable
and what is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the
same. The locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving
the income and number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional
value of food eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any
businesses involved in the community will benefit. Since the locavore movement began there have

are invested in the origin and the nutritional value of their own food. While for some people just
knowing the story of their food makes them more comfortable with what they re putting into their
bodies rather than having to wonder what the food was grown in and what happened to it in the

That s about three days nonstop, so a more realistically, it would take a week to two weeks for a

The End Of Education By Neil Postman
This paper is a response to Chapter Three: Some New Gods that Fail of Neil Postman s The End of
Education . This excerpt focuses on what Postman considers the dangerous faith of many in the
field of education to engage in idolatry of technology. He goes on to support his argument that
concludes that the improvements promised to us by technophiles working in educationare not
forthcoming and will likely make things worse. Postman writes in this chapter a critique of the
logical failings he observes in his contemporaries on how education should be improved. In
disagreement with Postman s opinion I wish to highlight how he has failed to understand how
interactive media is fundamentally different than previous media formats and that his focus on
overzealous promises from bureaucrats has blinded him to the actual opportunities for real growth
in education.
One of his earliest points is to attack the optimistic vision of Dr. Diane Ravitch, the former
Assistant US Secretary of Education (Postman, 38). He cites a piece she wrote that creates a
fictitious child called Little Eva who elects to learn Algebra while dealing with a case of insomnia
(Postman, 39). Postman claims that Ravitch s child is so different from any he has met on earth
and that she must have come from mars (Postman, 39). At best this statement seems to be arguing a
point that ignores the context that it was given in and more alarmingly sounds much like a Counsel
to Despair. Little Eva could never want to

Since the use of a dictionary has been associated with...
Since the use of a dictionary has been associated with negative views among teachers and educators,
there is relatively little body of researches in regard to its impact on L2 acquisition. Many teachers
argue that the use of the dictionary while reading may divert students attention to an individual
word instead of understanding the text as a whole; thus, hinder the comprehension process (knight,
1994).
The top communicative approach that advocates implicit vocabulary learning was dominant in the
1970s and 1980s which led many educators to discourage the frequent use of dictionary and pay
more attention to guessing word meaning from context (Sökmen, 1997). However, there are many
limitations to employ merely the guessing strategy. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to have a look at the information provided by a typical dictionary in order to
recognize the potential effectiveness of dictionaries in enhancing vocabulary acquisition. In most
dictionaries, a typical word entry includes: meaning, grammar, usage, history, status, synonym,
discrimination, application of derivative affixes, details of the parts of speech, indications of style
and register, pronunciation, the origin of the word, labels to indicate the field in which the word is
commonly used, gender of words, verb conjugations, common expressions, idioms and
abbreviations. Marckwardt (1973) believes that the information supplied by dictionaries about the
language can not be found elsewhere. Taking into consideration the valuable information supplied
by dictionaries, the significant role of the dictionary in developing the process of learning
vocabulary can not be denied. In recent years, dictionary use has relatively become a topic of
research interest. For example, Summers (1988) reported the results of three experiments done on
the effectiveness of the use of the dictionary in reading comprehension and vocabulary learning.
The first two experiments focused on reading comprehension and found that comprehension was

Personal Health Records Essay
Introduction
Increased public demand to access health information and growth of consumerism in health care
industry are two important reasons form increasing attention to Personal Health Records (PHRs) in
the recent years. Surveys show that a considerable number of people want to have access to their
health information. In one survey, 60 percent of respondents wanted physicians to provide online
access to medical records and test results, and online appointment scheduling; 1 in 4 said they
would pay more for the service.
Moreover, increasing costs of healthcare delivery and emerging trends toward patient empowerment

For this reason, some experts think that the term Personal Health Record is not descriptive enough
and can limit innovation and usage of these systems. Personal Health Record Systems (PHRS) and
Personal Health Platforms (PHP) have been suggested as more appropriate terms.
Types of PHRs
From an architectural point of view, PHRs can be divided into four different types.
Stand alone PHR: This is the simplest form of a PHR that does not connect with any other
system. The data is usually entered manually by the patient. This type of PHR can be in the
form of USB devices, CDs, smart cards, desktop applications, or even web based applications that
can be accessed through the internet. Although this model of PHR gives patient complete control
over data and seems more secure as it has no connection to other systems, it lacks the reliability
and usefulness and is not considered a preferred model. Stand alone PHRs can only be considered
computerized versions of paper based health records the some people keep.
Provider tethered PHRs: In this model, PHR is developed and maintained by a healthcare
provider, insurer, or employer. The type of health information that is stored in these PHRs is
affected by the nature of the provider business. For instance, in PHRs that are offered by insurers,
the content is mostly administrative and billing in nature. In the case of healthcare providers, PHR
would be a customized view of

Around 1910 and 1980 Detroit s African American populace expanded in excess of 100 times.
Ryan (2008) a faculty member of Harvard University reports that The City of Detroit, Michigan
was a natural subject for the study. Like many other cities in the American Midwest and West,
Detroit grew rapidly, expanding from a population of essentially in 1850 to over 1,800,000 by 1950
. (p 2) The breakdown of the Big Three automakers has quickened Detroit s decay, and occupants
have been consistently escaping since the 1950s. In that time, the populace has dwindled from
around 2 million to somewhat more than 700,000 individuals; aside from that, there are more than
70,000 deserted structures and numerous empty lots. Individuals have been relentlessly streaming
out of the city for quite a long time, leaving behind empty homes and scantily populated
neighborhoods, leaving vacant neighborhoods an invitation to more crime and other wrongdoing.
By the mid twentieth century, real changes in the American economy were underway, and the auto
business was on the front line. It wasn t the automotive industry alone that demolished Detroit. It
was urbanization that also played its hand in the demise of Detroit. The city was destroyed by
deindustrialization, and decentralization amid the post World War II spread and when the
interstates, and disinvestments in the urban communities started to dissolve. The auto makers such

School Dropout s Rates From City
All these is done to convince the readers that millions of children are out of school in Pakistan.
The readers feels sympathetic a lot about these issue Basically, Azam attributes poor government
plans, lack of resources, poor education schemes and poor planning to this menace of poor
enrolment and absence of learners from. The author of this article employs the use of some
reasons and logic appeals in an attempt to lure the audience to read the article and identify with it.
For instance, it was show that the rate of enrolled children from Grade one to five maximum, but
the retention rate is only 67%. Also, the primary enrollment is 58% in Pakistan and the target of
100%. There are example that show the logic of low enrolment. There are different between school
dropout s rates from city to other. For example, Balochi stanand Sindh are highest population of
school dropout s children, the rates about 66% of children in Balochistanand 51% in Sindh are
not in school, however, Punjaband K P show low rates of dropout s children by 47% and 34%
children out of school. Lastly, inthe Federally Administered Tribal regions (FATA), 62% are not in
school, in Gilgit Baltistan 48% not in school. And about 43% of same kids live in Azad Jammu and
Kashmir.
The use of tables and pictures also act as another appeal in this article. In this case, Azam uses a
chart to indicate the rate of literacy in Pakistan and also the rate of primary school enrolment in the
same country (Azam).

“Advertising
Advertising A judicious mixture of flattery and threats. Stephen Leacock
Considering advertisements as a type of connection used by marketers to make their product
known by the public, it is admitted that advertising corporations prey anyone and every age
group without any regard to the possible negative effects of their work as long as it pays off.
However, when these ads and advertisements target children, they become overwhelming and
harmful not only for them and their families, as individuals, but for the society as well. As a
consequence of knowing every personal detail of our lives, Marketers learn how to convert them
into profit. Convincing us to become their customers is a priority since Selling, buying, and making

Schlosser is not judging the actions of these companies; however, he relies on the usage of logos to
prove his point and persuade his audience without actually providing his opinion. The terrifying
truth about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by
interesting activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending
them since it is alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one
hours a week watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser
357). Schlosser gives more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are
unfortunately preyed by many advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos,
the author appeals to pathos to evoke his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about
children which works well with his purpose. To convince the audience of how important it is not
involving children in marketing, the author uses a vivid description of many situations where kids
show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative corporations on them. It is worth to note that, his
description makes it easy for the reader to visualize the scenes where children are showing the
hidden information absorbed before whether from their casual sitting in front of a TV, reading them

Mr. Hindley s Death Of The Funeral
Mr. Hindley came home to the funeral; and a thing that amazed us, and set the neighbours
gossiping right and left he brought a wife with him. What she was, and where she was born, he
never informed us: probably, she had neither money nor name to recommend her, or he would
scarcely have kept the union from his father. She was not one that would have disturbed the
house much on her own account. Every object she saw, the moment she crossed the threshold,
appeared to delight her; and every circumstance that took place about her: except the preparing
for the burial, and the presence of the mourners. I thought she was half silly, from her behaviour
while that went on: she ran into her chamber, and made me come with her, though I should have
been dressing the children: and there she sat shivering and clasping her hands, and asking
repeatedly Are they gone yet? Then she began describing with hysterical emotion the effect it
produced on her to see black; and started, and trembled, and, at last, fell a weeping and when I
asked what was the matter, answered, she didn t know; but she felt so afraid of dying! I imagined
her as little likely to die as myself. She was rather thin, but young, and fresh complexioned, and her
eyes sparkled as bright as diamonds. I did remark, to be sure, that mounting the stairs made her
breathe very quick; that the least sudden noise set her all in a quiver, and that she coughed
troublesomely sometimes: but I knew nothing of what these symptoms portended,

Aggiornamento: the Vatican II and the Eastern Orthodox Church s Impact on the Modern
Church
There are very few things in this world that are for sure. However, one of those things that can be
counted on is, change. Change is inevitable. Change is unstoppable.
Change does not ask for permission. People change, seasons change, times change, styles, change,
and even the church changes. Aggiornamento, which means, bringing up to date, was one of the
key words used by bishops, clergy, and media attending the sessions of the Second Vatican Council.

First, the Roman Catholic Church sees itself as the one and only true
Aguilar 2 legitimate heir to New Testament Christianity. In addition, they consider the pope as the
successor to Peter, the first bishop of Rome. Although one can debate those details, one thing is for
sure, the history of the Roman church extends back to ancient times. Shortly after apostolic times,
there was a vibrant Christian community that existed in Rome.
Those early Roman Christians were just like the Christians in other parts of the world, fully
devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Second, the Eastern Orthodox Church is not a single church but
rather a family of 13 self governing bodies. They are controlled and influenced by the nation in
which they are located (e.g., the Greek Orthodox Church,
Russian Orthodox Church). The sacraments, doctrine, liturgy, and church government, unite them,
but each church deals with its own affairs on its own merits. The head of each
Orthodox Church is called a patriarch. The patriarch of Constantinople (Istanbul,
Turkey) is considered the ecumenical or universal patriarch. He would be considered the closest
thing to a mirror of the Roman Catholic Pope. However, unlike the Pope, he enjoys special honor,
but has no real power to interfere with the 12 other Orthodox communities. Like the Catholic
Church, the Orthodox Church claims to be the one true church of Christ and traces its origins back

Nanacha s Digger
There is a fierce competition going on every night in the woods, a secret ritualistic meeting of
disenfranchised businessmen. Each armed with a shovel they challenge is to dig for as long as
you can. The nightly competition attracts a nameless and silent protagonist, an office worker
who spends his days fantasizing about the act of digging. He must face some fierce competition
in order to make it to the top and beat the man who silently watches over the event. Digger is an
example that in the world of the absurd anything can become a competition. This short film
which features no dialogue and a lot of digging is more fun in execution than concept. The late

that you have to dig to prove your worth. Although it is hard to imagine this drawn out into feature

European Union s Emission Trading Scheme
Despite the efficiency of the European Union s emission trading scheme (or EU ETS) with its
economic and environmental policy designed to reduce the greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide
emissions within the earth s atmosphere, further research have revealed the strengths and weakness
that EU ETS experience while determining how much greenhouse gas and carbon dioxidea country
can emit. One of the main strengths of EU ETS is its cost effectiveness. Limiting the amount of
greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide emitted requires a market based policy instrument such as a
trading market (European Commission, 2005) to ensure that the emitted gases are restricted in the
most economical way. Canadian economist John Dales (1968) suggests that a market of... Show

The success of its cost effectiveness resulted in a few mistakes that occurred during phase 1 that
caused a weak point in the scheme.
The EU ETS has been known exist with a typical weakness. On April 16th the European Parliament
voted to reject an attempt to bolster Europe s flagship environmental programme, the Emissions
Trading System (The economist, 2013), mainly because of the exceeded limit of emission.
Carbon has been known to harm the globe, and no wonder there is a price to it. During Phase 1
(2005 2007) of the EU ETS, there had been a massive overcapacity in the carbon market (The
economist, 2013). Companies were being allocated allowances based on previous emissions and
not being auctioned; while auction remains a more efficient way to allocate emission allowances
creating a carbon market. (Mak, 2011). The surplus was 1.5 billion 2 billion tones or about a year
s emissions (The economist, 2013). This shows how the newborn phase 1 were victims of the first
mistakes made by the EU ETS. Countries such as Germany, France and Poland were furthermore
assigned additional allowances thus not respecting the restrictions of the ETS (Mak, 2011), also,
not complying with the Harmonisation Law; which aims to create a consistency of laws and

Ethnic Laws And Ethnic Penalty
It is a well established fact that ethnic penalty in labor markets exists in many countries across the
world. This ethnic discrimination in employment typically operates furtively, with the victims often
not recognizing it. The existence of ethnic penalty is commonly demonstrated in statistical patterns
and trends over time before being proven by specific research studies and targeted investigations.
Ethnic penalty basically describe poorer results for ethnic or racial minoritygroups in far as the
rates of employment, rates of pay, and the job levels attained by individual employees are
concerned (Platt, 2002, p. 118). Thus, they are a reflection of labor market inequalities between

The basic meaning of an ethnic penalty is the myriad disadvantages experienced by ethnic minority
groups in the labor market in comparison to non ethnic minorities of equal human capital. As
already noted, this is expressed in terms of poorer results for the minority groups in far as the rates
of employment, rates of pay, and the job levels attained by individual employees (Platt, 2002, p.
118). Hopkins offers a similar definition, noting that ethnic penalty represent the differences
observed between the employment outcomes for ethnic minorities and their non minority
counterparts based on the human capital of each group. In a well functioning or fair labor market,
variations in individuals employment success are generally considered to arise from the human
capital differences of the individuals, that is, their skills as well as knowledge pertinent to the
specific labor market. Contrastingly, unfair labor markets may be characterized by ethnic penalty,
which depict such factors as groups cultural attributes that impact their labor market performance,
systematic variances in the economic prospects in the areas in which various ethnic groups reside,
or racial discrimination (Hopkins Gale, 2009, p. 38). However, Triandafyllidou cautions that the
ethnic penalties that statistical studies identify are not always indicators of the existence of ethnic
discrimination. There is a constant possibility that the observed

Tinker V Des Moines Case
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District 393 U.S. 503 It can hardly be
argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or
expression at the schoolhouse gate. This was the main argument from Justice Abe Fortas that
came into play at the Tinker v. Des Moines School District Case of 1969. The case involved a
small group of students who silently dissented against the government s policy during the ongoing
Vietnam War by wearing black armbands to school. In response by the school administration, each
of those students was suspended from the public schools they attended in Des Moines, Iowa. This

Black stated an unpopular opinion, saying that it was a myth to say that any person has a
constitutional right to say what he pleases, where he pleases, and when he pleases, while other
dissenter Justice John M. Harlan found nothing wrong with teachers regulating armbands and their
suspension was for a legitimate reason. The act of the School District in suspending the students
clearly showed a serious impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the

administrators more power to regulate student conduct. Nevertheless, the Tinker decision changed

Compare Contrast Essay
Technology Creating a Better World? Advancements in technology are supposed to make our
lives easier. The time it takes for us to travel to another destination continues to shorten.
Computers continue to advance at a rapid pace. Communicating with family and friends from
another country has become easier than ever. It would seem as if everything is perfect. However,
that is not the case at all. The irony of it all is that inventions that were supposed to make us
connected to people close to us have actually had the opposite effect. Devices such as mobile
phones, tablets, television, and laptops are just a few inventions that have us obsessed over them
during our free time. With the advent of social media, we have become more engrossed in... Show

Members of society have been so entranced with keeping in touch with everyone, that we often
neglect the people closest to us. We would rather post pictures, write comments, and video chat
with other people than our own family members (Wallis 14). In addition to the obsession over
cyber space connection, the bond from sharing quality time with your family seems like a distant
thing in the past. The bond that the internet provides is superficial compared to the one a person can
build with people. Wallis best describes this when she says If you re IMing four friends while
watching That 70s Show, it s not the same as sitting on the couch with your buddies or your
sisters and watching the show together (Wallis 18). Turkle explains this by stating We ve
become accustomed to a new way of being alone together. Technology enabled, we are able to be
with one another, and also elsewhere, connected to wherever we want to be (Turkle 4). Technology
has given people a false sense of being together when they are really not. Another common theme
that the two essays share is that technology and social media has made us less patient. Turkle
attributes this due to the lack of face to face conversations. She argues Face to face conversation
unfolds slowly. It teaches patience. When we communicate on our digital devices, we learn
different habits...we start to expect faster responses

The United States And Western Europe
Today, there are a large number of foreign people fleeing their country of origins to arrive into first
world nations such as the United States and Western Europe. The news have been publishing a
migration crisis , which is many people from the middle east and other unstable countries e.g. Syria,
Iraq, Palestine, Eritrea etc. and arriving in western Europein almost millions each month and
thousands each day. The reason for that is because their countries of origins are not safe places
live in causing their life to be in danger. The root causes is civil war, poverty, corrupt government.

In coastal countries where migrants set foot there are advertisement posted telling the people to
turn back from Europe and go home. Many European nations are doing this because they have
already settled in millions of migrants and cannot settle in anymore. This mass migration crisis all
began after the uprising in Middle Eastern countries, the civil war in Syria was the byproduct of
the uprising plus with the assistance of foreign help. However other countries where migrants are
fleeing from have a different issues causing many people to run away.
For instance the migrants that are fleeing for unstable nations are not just form Syria but also
from Iraq. In 2001 the U.S. began sending troops to Iraq to fight of terrorists. Instead the U.S.
occupation in Iraq has caused turmoil and instability. Another country that people are fleeing
form is Eritrea. This country is a small nation ruled by President Isaias Afwerki. The president is
known for murdering the civilians, imprisoning people unjustly and living off on the citizen s
money. Other nations people are fleeing form, are countries across the Middle East and Africa. It
is these countries there is no form of freedom, peace, and prosperity. In this two regions there is

task for the sake of promoting the Hindu political interests. Also, that Ghandi was just seeking
Hindu Muslim unity. Different groups of people living together cannot constitute a nation unless
they have common sympathy, agreement, and interest to an extent. The Hindus and Muslims do
not share any common opinions in which they realized a separation between these two religious
nations must occur. Jinnah now finally realized that the Muslim s, as a separate community, had no
political prospects in India. They had no chance of sharing political power with the Hindus; they
must either surrender their individuality or cut themselves adrift front the Hindus. The Congress
ultimatum was thus the signal for parting of the ways which, by inevitable stages, led to Pakistan.
This is what ultimately led to the partition after India gained independence. It took nearly three
decades of nationalist struggle for India to finally break free from the British and gain their
independence. The novel, The Partition of Indiawritten by Ian Talbot and Gurharpal Singh go into
great detail about the partition. In this book they say, The final period of colonial rule in India
from 1945 onwards was dominated by one consideration: the manner and the timing of the British
departure. Upon the British departure of India struck a series of violent acts that began with the
Great Calcutta Killing in 1946, which was a day of widespread manslaughter in the city of Calcutta

The San Antonio Goal Essay
The San Antonio Goal Almost every person goal in life is to travel around the world getting to
know new places, cultures, and people. People dream about traveling a lot and more if they had
a passion that would actually take them to get to know new destinations. Soccer has always
been my passion and it has taken me get to know new people and new places I had never been
before. We were on our way to San Antonio, Texas a white minivan full of kids on their soccer
uniforms ready to play on the hot summer of 2008. They had invited us to participate on a youth
national tournament with soccer teams from all over the United States. At that time I was just 11
years old and didn t knew that much about traveling, and most important without my parents. The
minivan was full of kids with the enthusiasm of traveling to a new city with big buildings,
famous places to visit and many attractions, where none of us had traveled before. Entering San
Antonio was such a beautiful experience, after observing pure trees and grass for hours we
finally got to see the buildings and freeways running in many directions. I was just wondering
what would had happened if the week before we had lost the final game against lobitos , they
would the ones observing the beauty instead of us. Our coach Frank and his wife Lucia weren t as
excited as me and my team members which were just stuck next to the window observing the
beautiful San Antonio, Texas. I honestly couldn t believe how tall those buildings

The blueprints for modern cars were perfected by the Germans and the French in the late 1800 s.
In the first part of the 1900 s Americans dominated the industry. A man by the name of Henry
Ford created mass production techniques that became standard for three companies. Those
three companies were Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler. They were the biggest companies by
the 1920s. During World War II and afterward car production by the Europeans and Japanese
soared. Cars were suppose to have a big impact on the United States of America. Towards the end
of the 1800 s it was perfected in Germany and France by some men. Their names are Nicolaus

Strangelove Attitudes Towards The Atomic Bomb And Cold War

Dr. Strangelove, Attitudes Towards the Atomic Bomb and Cold War
Less than two years after the United States society had been scared almost to death by the Cuban
Missile Crisis, 1964 the movie Dr. Strangelove was released to the movie theatres and showed the
country the end of the world. Advertised as the film of the era, Dr. Strangelove severely teased the
President, the entire military defense establishment, and the rhetoric of the Cold War. At that time,
the nation that was living through the stress of the nuclear arms race, and had confronted the real
outlook of nuclear war. The satiric treatment of the nation s leaders was a release from deep
doubts and pressures. The Cold War is well known not only for its long assignation among the two
super powers, the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also because of the delicate physical pressure that
nuclear power brought to the global stage.
Viewed, however, in its context of the Cold War and nuclear proliferation, the conditions of the
Cold War made it different than former international wars, because it was the first conflict that
could hypothetically lead to enormous, global destruction. Without the hazards of nuclear power,
the Cold War wouldn t have differed much from previous historical conflicts between powerful
states. Stanley Kubrick s 1964 political satire, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying
and Love the Bomb, is a hurtful

Interventions and Care for Patients
Evidence Based Practice Paper
Evidence based practice uses current research and clinical judgment to provide interventions and
care for patients (Kelly, 2012). It is important for nurses and all healthcare team members to be up
to date on current practices so patients can receive evidence based interventions that improve
clinical outcomes. According to Kelly (2012), almost half of patients that receive care, receive
interventions that are not based on evidence which can ultimately compromise the safety of patients
and their health outcomes. Peripheral intravenous therapy (PIV) is a common practice in the acute
care setting and evidence based practices have been established to drive appropriate care for this
intervention.
Almost all patients that are admitted into the acute care setting require peripheral intravenous
therapy. PIV therapy is an important factor in the care of patients in the hospital and it is most
often used to maintain or correct fluid and electrolyte balances, administer medications, and replace
blood or blood products (Ignatavicius and Workman, 2013). PIV therapy is an invasive therapy that
requires catheter insertion into the vascular system and access is gained through the patient s skin.
Because this is an invasive procedure, patients are at a risk of developing catheter related infections.
Catheter related infections are preventable and as nurses it is our responsibility to maintain the PIV
site and use the appropriate protocols and interventions to

Essay On Jewish Discrimination
The Discrimination of Jews
Between 1939 and 1945 Jews were greatly discriminated and affected by how their lives were
about to change. Jews were living a normal life until the German government began enforcing laws
and affecting all Jews. These examples explain how Jews were treated and hurt by people just
because they were Jewish. Jews were treated poorly before and during the Holocaust, and this made
a big impact on Jews today. First, there were many many laws that were implemented against Jews.
Next, the German government began to enforce social laws against Jews. Finally, the German
government attempted to separated Jews from the rest of society.

Before the Holocaust, people began viewing Jews differently. The German government decided
to make camps for the Jews to keep them away from the other people in the community. These
places were called Jewish Ghettos, where the government placed all the Jews to live. The people
in the Ghettos were very upset with this change and one man said, We have entered into a new
life, we are separated from the world and driven out of society, and the human race, (Facing
History 2). All of the Jews were forced to leave their homes and move to these Ghettos. They had
guards all around them and barbed wire fences. In conclusion, the Jews were forced into the
horrible places where they weren t allowed to leave. Overall, Jews were treated very poorly and
this made a big impact on Jews today. There were many laws that were many social laws that
were implemented against Jews and at the same time Jews were being separated from the rest of
society. As Hitler showed how he hated Jews, the other Germans followed along with him. People
began viewing Jews as horrible monsters who had no point in being alive. As people joined with
Hitler their power got stronger and stronger allowing them to treat Jews this way and affect
everyone around them. All of these things greatly impacted Jews and stopped them from living a

The Assassination Of President Abraham Lincoln Essay
One of the most tragic moments throughout all American history in my opinion is the Assassination
of President Abraham Lincoln. With no surprise I am writing about certain event that occurred
leading up to, during, and after this unfortunate event. This historical event is clouded with
conspiracy but I will try to avoid specifics of that particular view. Abraham Lincolnwas born in a
little town located within Hardin Country, Kentucky on February 12, 1809
(www.whitehouse.gov/abrahamlincoln). He grew up dirt poor and in my opinion could be
considered a frontiers man just like his father was. His mother on the other hand passed away
when Lincoln was at a very young age. Lincoln was also in my opinion of great intelligence, hard
worker, and a very ambitious young man. He would farm and run a store in New Salem, Illinois
(www.whitehouse.gov). A little less known tale about him is that he was a very good wrestler
back in the day and received his nick name honest Abe for walking a library book several miles
to be returned. He met the love of his life May Todd after becoming a dynamic lawyer and had
four young boys. Sadly only one lived to see adult hood (www.history.com). Abraham Lincoln
became the 16th President of the United Statesof America in 1861. At this time the states where not
so united. As a matter of fact 13 of them had succeeded from the union in the same year President
Lincoln was elected (1861). The historical significance of this time was known as the

The Hershey Milk Chocolate Bar
For over one hundred years, there has been only one company that has been on top of the candy
industry in North America; Hershey. With over 14,000 employees, serving 70 countries
worldwide and net sales of $6.6 billon, Hershey has come out on top. The Hershey company
began in 1894 by Milton Hershey. The company has over 8 factories, but their main headquarters
resides in Pennsylvania. The beloved Hershey milk chocolate bar has been a favorite by many,
but would it still be if more people knew how it came to be that? One of chocolates main
ingredients is cocoa. Cocoa, or cocoa beans come from tropical areas around the world, but is
mostly found on the Ivory Coast in West Africa. Hershey, along with Mars and Nestle are the
three major companies that buy their cocoa from West Africa, but with further investigation, it
has been known that over 4,400 children work on those cocoa farms that they buy from.
Hershey has bought and produced tons of chocolate for over 50 years that has had the blood,
sweat and tears of the not only the children on the Ivory Coast, but the adults as well. The way
that Hershey has been able to sell to their consumers with very low prices on all their products is
because they buy from the cocoa farms that have child slaves. Many of which were taken from
their homes, sold or needed to provide for their families. They would come work for cocoa
farmers and get paid little to nothing. Children who work on the Ivory Coast usually are between
ages 12 and 16,

U.s. School Military Leadership
In recent years women in the United States have been making advancements in leadership roles.
One place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In
just the past few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little
advancements have been made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few
weeks some this has been questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school.
Having women graduating from ranger school, a grueling leadershipcourse in the military, shows
advancements women are making in leadership roles today. The fact that these two women have
been able to make it to graduation at an elite military leadership course is huge. This is the... Show

However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were
able to graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have
completed the ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment
(Oppel). This shows the heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy
restrictions placed on female soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to
allow women to have a place in higher leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other
branches of service have until January 1st to decide what jobs are going to be open to women.
This shows the leading role these women have already taken on. They are setting the way for
other women to make advancements in all fields. Women have been taking on more
responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have served our nation in combat and
some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and Navy SEALS in the past.
According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as part of SEAL Team 6 s
top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of military victories for
years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is Colonel Fivecoat. He
said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his company.

It takes place in the fictional land of Middle Earth, where Elves and dwarves roamed the lands and much darker creatures too, such as Trolls and Goblins. Our tale starts off like this. In a hole in the ground, there lives a Hobbit . Hobbits are a simple folk who rarely wander beyond their little town of Baggend. They are no taller than a human child, but they eat like giants. They love eating so much, they have seven meals a day. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. They have a mop of curly hair on there head and big furry feet. That brings us to the main protagonist, Bilbo Baggins. Throughout the story he is accompanied by Thirteen dwarves, lead by Thorin Oakenshield, and the wizard, Gandalf the Grey. There are many antagonists in this story including goblins, trolls, elves, and even humans, but the main conflict is with Smaug, the fire breathing dragon, who has stolen Thorin s kingdom. Hobbits in Baggend rarely have anything close to an adventure, since they would have to leave the comfort of their warm hobbit hole. Bilbo Baggins, never in his wildest dreams, would find himself hunting dragons next to dwarves and wizards. However, one day, while he was smoking his pipe of tobacco, he heard a knock on his gate. It was Gandalf. He wondered if Bilbo wanted to take part in an adventure. Bilbo quickly urged the wizard away saying he wanted nothing to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both of the systems have a critical role of transmitting information as well as promoting regulated functions in the body. The endocrine system is responsible for secreting hormones to regulate the body s organs and cells. The nervous systemis accountable for sending signals to other cells in the body to allow the body to react such as making the muscles move (eNotes, 18 September 2012). An example of the endocrine systemwould be the process of growth and development. The Disabled Athlete “Does” have an Unfair Advantage Essay The article, The Disabled Athlete has an Unfair Advantage, by Amby Burfoot, is a poorly written, research deficient article, in need of accurate, unbiased supporting facts. The article is written about Oscar Pistorius a double below knee amputee that competed but failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, after a lengthy court case. (Robinson) This unsatisfactorily written article has merit to the opinion, however, the author sounded as if he was a first time writer for a school newspaper. • 7. Virgin In A Tree This poem was written in 1958, after Sylvia Plath left her job at Smith College to write for a living. It was during this time she found writing extremely difficult and resorted to set themes and deliberate exercises in style, in her efforts to find a release. The poem is based on a drawing quot; The Virgin in a Tree quot; by Paul Klee. Sylvia Plath expresses her feelings about the concept of virginity, virgins etc. She holds their morals and values accountable, for what they believe to be right and what they believe to be wrong. Sylvia Plath uses great many mythical allusions to illustrate her perceptions about virgins, especially in Ancient Greek mythology, many of which have been a direct bearing on the title of the poem; Virgin in a... This is also a significant image in her poem, the religious images that are supposedly to symbolize holiness and purity are employed by Plath as a means of mockery; And put on barks nun black habit which deflects Who keep cool and holy make A sanctum to attract Green virgins, consecrating limb and lip To chastity s service: like prophets, like preachers, In Plath s point of view, the reason virginity is given the meaning it is today, is due to the fact that virginity is declared sacred and pledged to sexual abstinence in the name of all that is holy. This underlines her faith in a woman s role as a partner in marriage, as a wife, mother, daughter especially in a family. She thinks that virginity does not deserve the fame and glory it has, in fact it will ultimately lead to the spoil of a woman s soul, how the essence will be destroyed if they are kept prisoners and constricted. They are planted in the shade provided by much larger trees, such as bananas and mangoes; a mature cocoa is estimated to produce around five pounds of chocolate a year (History). Cacao farmers use agroforestry, which intertwines the practices of agriculture with the natural ways of the forest. They also use sustainable methods where they plant tall, favorable crops that are native to the area and give cover to the cacao tree for its needed shade; these crops not only give shade to the trees but also provide other natural resources, such as fruit, rubber, wood, etc. The cacao trees grow well in the shade farms just like they do in a rain forest, while also providing a place for wildlife to roam freely like they do in their natural habitat, and serving as a buffer between forests and developed regions. Some forty to fifty million people rely on cocoa as their means of living. Farmers earn more income from crops than they did before, due in part to the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF). • 16. The End Of Education By Neil Postman This paper is a response to Chapter Three: Some New Gods that Fail of Neil Postman s The End of Education . This excerpt focuses on what Postman considers the dangerous faith of many in the field of education to engage in idolatry of technology. He goes on to support his argument that concludes that the improvements promised to us by technophiles working in educationare not forthcoming and will likely make things worse. Postman writes in this chapter a critique of the logical failings he observes in his contemporaries on how education should be improved. In disagreement with Postman s opinion I wish to highlight how he has failed to understand how interactive media is fundamentally different than previous media formats and that his focus on overzealous promises from bureaucrats has blinded him to the actual opportunities for real growth in education. One of his earliest points is to attack the optimistic vision of Dr. Diane Ravitch, the former Assistant US Secretary of Education (Postman, 38). He cites a piece she wrote that creates a fictitious child called Little Eva who elects to learn Algebra while dealing with a case of insomnia (Postman, 39). Postman claims that Ravitch s child is so different from any he has met on earth and that she must have come from mars (Postman, 39). At best this statement seems to be arguing a point that ignores the context that it was given in and more alarmingly sounds much like a Counsel to Despair. Little Eva could never want to ... The top communicative approach that advocates implicit vocabulary learning was dominant in the 1970s and 1980s which led many educators to discourage the frequent use of dictionary and pay more attention to guessing word meaning from context (SГ¶kmen, 1997). • 24. “Advertising Advertising A judicious mixture of flattery and threats. Stephen Leacock Considering advertisements as a type of connection used by marketers to make their product known by the public, it is admitted that advertising corporations prey anyone and every age group without any regard to the possible negative effects of their work as long as it pays off. However, when these ads and advertisements target children, they become overwhelming and harmful not only for them and their families, as individuals, but for the society as well. As a consequence of knowing every personal detail of our lives, Marketers learn how to convert them into profit. Schlosser is not judging the actions of these companies; however, he relies on the usage of logos to prove his point and persuade his audience without actually providing his opinion. The terrifying truth about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by interesting activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending them since it is alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one hours a week watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser 357). Schlosser gives more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are unfortunately preyed by many advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos, the author appeals to pathos to evoke his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about children which works well with his purpose. To convince the audience of how important it is not involving children in marketing, the author uses a vivid description of many situations where kids show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative corporations on them. It is worth to note that, his description makes it easy for the reader to visualize the scenes where children are showing the hidden information absorbed before whether from their casual sitting in front of a TV, reading them online, or just by applying the rules of ... • 26. Mr. Hindley s Death Of The Funeral Mr. Hindley came home to the funeral; and a thing that amazed us, and set the neighbours gossiping right and left he brought a wife with him. What she was, and where she was born, he never informed us: probably, she had neither money nor name to recommend her, or he would scarcely have kept the union from his father. She was not one that would have disturbed the house much on her own account. Every object she saw, the moment she crossed the threshold, appeared to delight her; and every circumstance that took place about her: except the preparing for the burial, and the presence of the mourners. I thought she was half silly, from her behaviour while that went on: she ran into her chamber, and made me come with her, though I should have been dressing the children: and there she sat shivering and clasping her hands, and asking repeatedly Are they gone yet? Then she began describing with hysterical emotion the effect it produced on her to see black; and started, and trembled, and, at last, fell a weeping and when I asked what was the matter, answered, she didn t know; but she felt so afraid of dying! I imagined her as little likely to die as myself. She was rather thin, but young, and fresh complexioned, and her eyes sparkled as bright as diamonds. This ethnic discrimination in employment typically operates furtively, with the victims often not recognizing it. The existence of ethnic penalty is commonly demonstrated in statistical patterns and trends over time before being proven by specific research studies and targeted investigations. Ethnic penalty basically describe poorer results for ethnic or racial minoritygroups in far as the rates of employment, rates of pay, and the job levels attained by individual employees are concerned (Platt, 2002, p. 118). As already noted, this is expressed in terms of poorer results for the minority groups in far as the rates of employment, rates of pay, and the job levels attained by individual employees (Platt, 2002, p. 118). Hopkins offers a similar definition, noting that ethnic penalty represent the differences observed between the employment outcomes for ethnic minorities and their non minority counterparts based on the human capital of each group. In a well functioning or fair labor market, variations in individuals employment success are generally considered to arise from the human capital differences of the individuals, that is, their skills as well as knowledge pertinent to the specific labor market. The case involved a small group of students who silently dissented against the government s policy during the ongoing Vietnam War by wearing black armbands to school. The act of the School District in suspending the students clearly showed a serious impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth. All students who petitioned were quiet and passive, neither disrupting nor interfering with school activities and the rights of other students which makes their symbolic speech protected under the Constitution. Advertised as the film of the era, Dr. Strangelove severely teased the President, the entire military defense establishment, and the rhetoric of the Cold War. At that time, the nation that was living through the stress of the nuclear arms race, and had confronted the real outlook of nuclear war. The satiric treatment of the nation s leaders was a release from deep doubts and pressures. The Cold War is well known not only for its long assignation among the two super powers, the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also because of the delicate physical pressure that nuclear power brought to the global stage. Viewed, however, in its context of the Cold War and nuclear proliferation, the conditions of the Cold War made it different than former international wars, because it was the first conflict that could hypothetically lead to enormous, global destruction. Without the hazards of nuclear power, the Cold War wouldn t have differed much from previous historical conflicts between powerful states. • 50. Interventions and Care for Patients Evidence Based Practice Paper Evidence based practice uses current research and clinical judgment to provide interventions and care for patients (Kelly, 2012). It is important for nurses and all healthcare team members to be up to date on current practices so patients can receive evidence based interventions that improve clinical outcomes. According to Kelly (2012), almost half of patients that receive care, receive interventions that are not based on evidence which can ultimately compromise the safety of patients and their health outcomes. Peripheral intravenous therapy (PIV) is a common practice in the acute care setting and evidence based practices have been established to drive appropriate care for this intervention. Almost all patients that are admitted into the acute care setting require peripheral intravenous therapy. PIV therapy is an important factor in the care of patients in the hospital and it is most often used to maintain or correct fluid and electrolyte balances, administer medications, and replace blood or blood products (Ignatavicius and Workman, 2013). PIV therapy is an invasive therapy that requires catheter insertion into the vascular system and access is gained through the patient s skin. Because this is an invasive procedure, patients are at a risk of developing catheter related infections. Catheter related infections are preventable and as nurses it is our responsibility to maintain the PIV site and use the appropriate protocols and interventions to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. The Assassination Of President Abraham Lincoln Essay One of the most tragic moments throughout all American history in my opinion is the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. With no surprise I am writing about certain event that occurred leading up to, during, and after this unfortunate event. This historical event is clouded with conspiracy but I will try to avoid specifics of that particular view. Abraham Lincolnwas born in a little town located within Hardin Country, Kentucky on February 12, 1809 (www.whitehouse.gov/abrahamlincoln). He grew up dirt poor and in my opinion could be considered a frontiers man just like his father was. His mother on the other hand passed away when Lincoln was at a very young age. Lincoln was also in my opinion of great intelligence, hard worker, and a very ambitious young man. He would farm and run a store in New Salem, Illinois (www.whitehouse.gov). A little less known tale about him is that he was a very good wrestler back in the day and received his nick name honest Abe for walking a library book several miles to be returned. He met the love of his life May Todd after becoming a dynamic lawyer and had four young boys. Sadly only one lived to see adult hood (www.history.com). Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United Statesof America in 1861. At this time the states where not so united. As a matter of fact 13 of them had succeeded from the union in the same year President Lincoln was elected (1861). The historical significance of this time was known as the ... The beloved Hershey milk chocolate bar has been a favorite by many, but would it still be if more people knew how it came to be that? One of chocolates main ingredients is cocoa. Cocoa, or cocoa beans come from tropical areas around the world, but is mostly found on the Ivory Coast in West Africa. Hershey, along with Mars and Nestle are the three major companies that buy their cocoa from West Africa, but with further investigation, it has been known that over 4,400 children work on those cocoa farms that they buy from. Hershey has bought and produced tons of chocolate for over 50 years that has had the blood, sweat and tears of the not only the children on the Ivory Coast, but the adults as well. The way that Hershey has been able to sell to their consumers with very low prices on all their products is because they buy from the cocoa farms that have child slaves. Many of which were taken from their homes, sold or needed to provide for their families. They would come work for cocoa farmers and get paid little to nothing. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have already taken on.
