Resilience Research Paper
In this huge world everyone is unique. These unique individuals go through many mental stress,
trauma and bad experiences in life. Due to this some of them are not affected but many are
affected by psychological, mental or physical illness. So what would be explanation for this
happening? By resiliency we can explain this phenomenon in better way. In real life doctors are
also promoting this concept to examine this in every effected individual. In this article, I review
theoretical and by experimental studies by comparing no difficulty or high difficulty with people
experience difficulty built resilience. That may increase the power of facing difficulties and stress in
future.
Introduction:
Bad things happen every day and maximum of them goes through these serious problems in their

Literature Review:
Resilience is a positive wave in terms of adversity, rather than to positive adaptation in general, It
surfaces in the face of hardship (Hawley, 2000, p 102) and also ability of an individual to come
back from hardship. Without struggle, resilience does not exist by Hawley.
To understand the resilience we need to understand the concept of stress. Stress is somewhat
subjective both in the measurement of severity and experience; the way in which individuals
perceive and interpret stressors may vary greatly (Bowes Jaffee, 2013). In this articles we found
that stress is the reason by which resilience occur.

Great West Description
The Great West
The western United States is amazing. My parents took my family and I out west when I young.
The Great West was a sensational place, I have seen many sensational places with great majestic
sites. There are 2 places that I preferred. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Big Sur,
California. I was very excited for this road trip, because it was the first time I did something on
my own. My vehicle was a shiny Black Toyota Celica. It contained a smell of ocean breezes, and
cigarettes in the interior of the car. The sun was bright and the sky dark baby blue. It was cold that
day and windy. The humidity was high and when the wind would blow it was freezing. In addition,
I began my trip West, I was earnest about this trip.
Next, I noticed things changing rapidly. The first 1500 miles was boring. After that, I was driving
through Kansas. It started to look, feel, and even smell different. Kansas is a long state to drive
across. The eastern part of Kansas had high humidity and weather and it felt sticky. The western
part of Kansas had no humidity, and an elevation of roughly 4000 ft. It was the beginning of the
desert. The desert was quiet but peaceful, it was a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mountains I ve seen. The view of the Mountains was a very bright and vibrant view. The Rocky

overwhelmed with excitement. There was no pollution, the air was clean. It felt like I was
breathing fresh oxygen. The smell and taste are difficult to explain, however, you could taste and
smell how clean the air was. I could feel and even hear the air when the wind approached. In
addition, depending on where you were the clouds above you and below you at high elevations were

The Political Corruption Of The United States
Political Corruption
All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be
forbidden by law This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be
disastrous when involved in election cycles. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Supreme Court
decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and Super PAC s could
donate unlimited amount of money to support candidates. The Citizens United ruling has caused
increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money they need to win
an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to the company.
Pre Citizens United
There were several landmark supreme court cases and laws before Citizens United that
attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption can easily be caused by
increased amounts of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit
corporate interests because that will allow them to get more money later to help in reelection
efforts. This becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the ability to donate
large sums of money to a candidate. This makes the speech of large corporations worth far more
than the average citizen. This can have a drastic impact on the marketplace of ideas. John Stuart
Mills in his book, On Liberty, creates the marketplace of ideas. This marketplace consists of all
speech being able to have equal weight and face

Gerald replied Whatever happens, happens . While sitting in the waiting room, Jordan gets a
call from Karen s parents. Jordan was crying throughout the whole phone call. Then shortly after,
Jayden s skin turned very pale and slowly his breath shortened, until he couldn t breath anymore
and he died a slow, painful death. It all started one day when 4 college students Jordan, Jayden,
Karen, and Gerald, decided to take a walk on the beach. It was a very calm evening, the waves
look beautiful washing over the shore and the sky was a bright pink,as the sun was setting. As they

quickly and left without a trace. That was weird Karen thought to herself. Soon the girls left to

Room, by Emma Donoghue
We have all heard the African proverb that says, It takes a village to raise a child. The response
given by Emma Donoghue s novel Room, simply states, If you ve got a village. But if you don t,
then maybe it just takes two people (Donoghue 234). For Jack, Room is where he was born and has
been raised for the past five years; it is his home and his world. Jack s Ma on the other hand knows
that Room is not a home, in fact, it is a prison. Since Ma s kidnapping, seven years prior, she has
survived in the shed of her capturer s backyard. This novelcontains literary elements that are not
only crucial to the story but give significance as well. The Point of view brings a powerful
perspective for the audience, while the setting and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

aren t real like Ma is, and girls and boys not either. Men aren t real except Old Nick, and I m not
actually sure if he s real for real. Maybe half? (Donoghue 18)
Through this, we see that the only other person who might be real is Old Nick. Even then, Jack
expresses the thought that Old Nick may not be completely real because he is from Outside. Once
Jack learns that outside is a real place he must being to comprehend the idea that Outside has
everything (Donoghue 71). As Jack begins to think this through he states:
Whenever I think of a thing now like skis or fireworks or islands or elevators or yo yos, I have to
remember they re real, they re actually happening in Outside all together. It makes my head hurt.
And people too, firefighters teachers burglars babies saints soccer players and all sorts, they re
all really in Outside. I m not there, though, me and Ma, we re the only ones not there. Are we still
real? (Donoghue 71) This is just the beginning of his thought process about the unknown world he
refers to as Outside. The perspective of the narrator allows the reader to begin to understand the
mind of a child. The author chooses to use this unique point of view to give the audience the
chance to think of what it would be like to be in a situation like this. It makes a person reflect and

Effect of the Steam Engine on the Industrial Revolution
Effect of Steam Engine on Industrial Revolution The economy of England during the 18th century
was one that needed rebuilding after many years of war with other countries. A breakthrough of
new technology and ideas boosted the economy, creating a time known commonly as the Industrial
Revolution. Specifically, there was one invention that defined the Industrial Revolution. The steam
engine, a device powered by coal used to run machines at an efficient rate, was developed during the
Industrial Revolution. The invention of the steam engine had a major effect on the economy of
England during the Industrial Revolution through its use in mining, transportation, and factories.
Thomas Savory created the very first steam engine in 1698, however it was hardly used due to its
unreliability ().Savory s engine was widely advertised, however it could only be put under a certain
amount of pressure before it exploded (). Industrialist Matthew Boulton brought Watt over to
England to work with him on building his steam engine, providing him with the inventors and
equipment needed to complete the engine ().Watt moved to the center of the Industrial Revolution
in Birmingham, England, working with other inventors to build his steam engine (). Many different
industrialists were able to provide their facilities and equipment to help Watt make his steam engine
(). Boulton, partnering with Watt, was able to acquire a 25 year extension to Watt s patent, allowing
Watt to build over 500 steam

European Americans European Americans are comprised of a variety of different countries. Some
of the countries that they represent are Ireland, England, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Poland,
etc. All throughout history European Americans have been known to be conquerors. They
conquered the US by taking over the land that rightfully belonged to the Native American Indians.
There were no apologies made for this conquer, it simply took place. Derald Wing Sue and David

In the last few years, the industrial production in India has redeveloped; and especially in the last
few months; as the industrial output expanded to 2.7% compared to that in 2016.
Add to that the increase in the production of capital goods by 10.7%, with the growth in basic
goods output yet at a slower pace.
Annually, the average growth in industrial production recorded an increase by 0.7% in less than a
year (five months).
We can see that India has one of the fastest growing major economies. It is also known as a modern
industrialized country.
Future speaking, Focus Economics Panelists expect a 4.9% increase in industrial output for the

The Boy On The Wooden Box
Surviving The War Could you ever picture yourself being in one of the World Wars? Well,
neither did Leon Leyson. I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent
reading project. The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a
Holocaust survivor and the youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On
The Wooden Box in 2013, with the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four
years after Leon arrived in the United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is
very important that stories from the war are shared.
In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in KrakГіw, Poland. Leon had four siblings,
their names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which
would not work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were
transferred into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the
Germans and was placed in the center of KrakГіw. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto.
After the war Pesza and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents
immigrated to America. Leon and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization
camp in Germany while waiting to go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to
make it to the United States, after the war ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib

The Music Of The Hippies
The hippies were determined to create art of the people, and their chosen art form, rock/folk
music, was by its definition populist. One main theme the music of the hippies was that it was
often filled with anger, anger directed at those who would abuse the Constitution for their benefit,
who would sell America out and betray all She stands for in other words, their parents and
government. Many people claimed the hippies were un American and disrespected and ridiculed
patriotism, but in fact they had a great respect for America and believed themselves to be true
patriots. They refused to let America be less than it could be, demanding that it should live up to its
potential, that it should shine like a beacon to the world as our founding forefathers had intended.
Hairreflects this more genuine form of tough love patriotism in many scenes, most notably in the
song Don t Put it Down. This song shows a unique dichotomy between true patriotism and symbolic
patriotism. More importantly, it makes the emphatic point that there is more than one way to be
patriotic. In the original staging of the song, two of the singers folded the American flag in proper
military fashion as they sang, demonstrating that they do respect this symbol of their country. The
other side of the song takes the title literally, laughing at the idea that the flag can never touch the
ground. In this way, the song suggests that perhaps those self proclaimed patriots who wanted flag
burners and hippie

Abstract
In here we look at Alders Individual Psychology, about what Alfred Adlermeans by Individual

Alfred Adler A Brief Look
Alfred Adler (1870 1937), was an Austrian physician, who was an early associate of Sigmund Freud

Freud was overemphasizing the psychosexual perspective and also that he ignored other influences.

America Is A Melting Pot
America is a melting pot made up of people from many different races and ethnic backgrounds,
so why are the American news broadcasters predominantly white men in their late forties? News
represents the American society so therefore American broadcasters should reflect society as a
whole. In addition, many people consider news anchors role models and it is important to see
themselves represented and trust their news source. The lack of diversity among newscasters
impacts the audience s reception of the news. People are more likely to trust news sources that
they relate to and identify with. Many people do not even notice the lack of diversity or understand
the impact it has on society. There needs to be more of an effort to reflect diversity among our
newscasters to correct the history of discrimination, to accurately reflect the audience and to
provide role models and promote positive images.
The United States is called a melting pot because the the varied groups of people that live in the
country and interact every day, but the country also has an ugly history or discrimination against
women and minorities. The broadcasting industry has been guilty of this discrimination. There has
been blatant discrimination against women newscasters. Women journalists initially had difficulty
breaking into the broadcast news field and did not begin to make real strides towards equality until
the 1960s and 1970s ( Irvin) . This is very discouraging to young women interested in this

The case Obergefell vs. Hodges reached the United States Supreme Court in 2015 (Oyez). This
case dealt with the rights of same sex marriages and became important case in our nation s young
history and in our society in general. The problem was groups of same sex couples were being told
that their marriage licenses were not being upheld to the same legal standards as those of
heterogeneous couples. Therefore same sex couples in Ohio, Tennessee , Kentucky, and Michigan
went and sued these agencies in challenge of their constitutional rights (Oyez). They took their issue

While it is not a personal choice for me, I see it best to support it for those who make that choice.
In the Constitution marriage is not defined as the unity between a man and women, but the
unity of two persons. As long as those two persons are both legal citizens of the United States
then they should have full protection under the Constitution. This would include their
fundamental right to marriage. Same sex should be seen equal to opposite sex marriage because
the standards are no different. Just like in the case of Loving v Virginia, once you take away the
factor of race or sexuality, you are left with the same principal foundations as you are of a hetero
sexual couple. Therefore it would be an act of discrimination to deny legal marriage to same sex
partners. Some will argue that the Bible defines marriage as between a man and women, and while
that is true, it is not recognized by the court. Because it is stated in a religious doctrine and the
United States has freedom of religion, this point can not be made legal valid in any situation and
therefore is irrelevant. Another argument also commonly made in opposition to same sex marriage
is that its legality is within the power of the states and not the national government. While the
power to issue marriage licenses is given to the state, that s not all that the case argues. It argues that

Why Citizen Kane is the Best Movie Ever Made Essay
The debate over Casablanca and Citizen Kane has been a classic argument between film critics
and historians alike, and this is because both of these pieces are timeless pictures that have
managed to captivate audiences well after their era. On a broad spectrum analysis this is an
apples and oranges debate as the two films both have great cinematographic value but for different
reasons. However, the real question at hand is which film is the greatest? Which film transformed
the future of American film making? It is these questions that I as many others have, will attempt
to answer in the following essay as I explain why I believe Citizen Kaneis the greatest film ever
made.

Editor Robert Wise was said to have blended 127 different clips of film into the newsreel, some of
which were actual news footage while the others were staged shots of the actors. Later Welles was
said to have aged these by dragging the negatives across a concrete floor.
In the closing of the newsreel we find ourselves in a room full of highly shadowed journalists,
with little to no recognizable faces. Reporter Jerry Thompson is directed by his editor to pursue
ominous feel as we are slowly taken closer to Kane s mansion and are shown a lite window
which fades to black, and snowflakes suddenly fill the screen. As the camera pulls back, a snow
covered cabin comes into view. The camera pulls back more quickly to show that what we have
been looking at is actually just a scene inside a snow globe in the hand of an old man. The story
of Kane s dying words and from there we are taken back to Kane s youth through the innovative
use of flashbacks, which are instigated by Thompson as he meets with different people who were
close to Kane.
One such flashback begins at Thatcher s building where the reporter Thompson enters an
exaggeratedly large room and begins to read about Kane. This is one of the scenes in which
cinematographer Greg Toland s deep focus technique of filming and use of unique lighting, in
which the only light source hits

Compare and Contrast Happines in Candide, Rasselas, Essay...
Happiness
Throughout history humankind has been trying to define happiness. What is it exactly and how
do we obtain it? We always think that happiness is a place to be or a destination and technically,
that is the main premise or goal of our lives; to obtain happiness. So our whole lives go by from
the minute were born to the last breath we take in a quest to work hard in order to reach that
destination. Naturally, many philosophical writers have jumped on the bandwagon and put in their
two cents of their views on the matter of happiness. Alexander Pope talks about the relationship and
purpose man has to the universe in An Essay on Man, Voltaire wrote about living in blind optimism
with a false notion of happiness in Candide, and Samuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or can a part contain the whole? Is the great chain, that draws all to agree, and drawn supports,
upheld by God or thee? ( Pope 369) According to Pope, we as humans should learn to simply accept
our position in the great chain of being. If we are able to do so, we will be able to successfully live
happy lives. Man s place in the chain is below the angels but above beasts. Each element of the
chain is only a part, so we as humans are only part of the whole of God s plan.
Then we have Voltaire who wrote Candide. Voltaire was one of those people who started
questioning life as it was being lived as opposed to Pope who accepted life the way it was. He
was not an Atheist because he did believe in a God. Although he believed in God, he had a
problem with religion and questioned things written in the Bible, so basically he was a
confused individual looking for answers. These questions are what led him to write Candide. In
Candide, Voltaire mocked various aspects of religion and the way people viewed life, especially
people like Alexander Pope. Candide heavily mocked Pope s views in An Essay on Man.
Voltaire as opposed to Pope, realizes that there is evil in the world. At first, Voltaire was a fan of
Pope but later abandons such an optimistic view which he formerly believed in, because he realizes
that man has suffered through so much misery and hardships that it just did not make sense. He

Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel
Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically
endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named
Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to
recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and
Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They
believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi
embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such
events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise
into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel
Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without
animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of
believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he
says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask
any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer.
(Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however,
unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the
aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals
story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that
Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured
if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic,
vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his
very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept.
He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to
think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was

Conversion Therapy Argumentative Essay
An individual s sexuality should not define who they are as a person. What is Conversion Therapy?
Sexual Orientation Conversion Therapy has a range of treatments that are designed in hopes to turn
a person s sexual orientation to heterosexual. Conversion therapy is also used in attempts to convert
a transgenderperson s gender expression to match with the gender given at birth. It is currently
banned for minors in 5 states (California, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, and Illinois) and the
other 45 states have no law against it. Many teens in this current time period are coming out as
either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer. Homosexualityis often seen as a negative
effect towards society.
Some people may think that conversion therapies are wrong and that they should be banned

However, the most disputed one is aversion therapy as it is more likely for it to turn dangerous. In
the 1970s, many conversion therapy programs used the electroshock technique or vomit inducing
chemical compounds when a person showed an attraction to a same sex individual. However the
techniques have changed overtime; for example: a milder aversive technique is encouraging
someone to snap a rubber band on his or her wrist when they are allowing themselves to be attracted
to a same sex individual. Many aversive techniques, ones that are particularly physically abusive
actions, are strongly disliked in the United States. Today, conversion therapies are influenced by
conventional psychotherapeutic practices to help people change their minds. People have argued
that a traumatic experience, including sexual abuse, can change an individual s sexual orientation.
Therefore, people believe a person s sexuality can be

Fire Safety Research Paper
Safety is a priority in the fire service. We must keep our personnel safe in order for them to
provide affective service to the citizens. Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use,
all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety
for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters.
First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our
policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing
water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate
safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as
tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. Be that as it
may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every
apparatus, we can potentially save the life of a rescuer. The addition of floatation devices is a low
cost, high value addition to improve safety.
Second, Lighted traffic cones are a cost effective way to increase the safety of personnel while
operating at night. We currently have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Carry A. Nation And The Progressive Era
From the 1890s to the 1920s, many social and economic reform movements were taking place
within American society, and this time period became known as the Progressive Era. People
advocated for women s suffrage, temperance, rights for African Americans, better working
conditions in factories, and much more. One prominent figure from this time period is Carry A.
Nation, a temperance activist. Nation would pray, sing hymns, throw bricks, and attack bars
with hatchets. Her action resulted in her being jailed, written about, and led to her writing her
own magazine. Carry A. Nation s tactics of praying, singing hymns, and violent attacks were
effective in the banning of alcohol, with the 18th Amendment, due to the publicity and fame she
received. Carry A. Nation, originally Carrie A. Nation, did not always have a tendency for
violence and a strong aversion from alcohol. However, Nation s first husband, Charles Gloyd,
had a severe drinking problem. Nation became pregnant, and it became evident to her that Gloyd
would not be able to support her and her child. Gloyd soon died because of his drinking issue.
This later led to Nation s strong dislike from alcohol because her husband, whom she loved, died
because of alcohol. Nation remarried David Nation, a preacher and lawyer, and during this
marriage, Nation became very religious. Also, Nation would try to help inmates in prison. This
initially led to her belief that alcohol was bad since Nation believed alcohol caused all the

World War I And The United Policy Of Strict Neutrality
On Sunday, 28 June 1914, at approximately 10:45 am, Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed
in Sarajevo, the capital of the Austro Hungarian province of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by Gavrilo
Princip. The assassination of Ferdinand and his wife set off a chain of events that would lead to
the start of World War I. When the war began the United States proclaimed a united policy of strict
neutrality. After multiple U boat attacks that killed hundreds of American civilians and the
transmission of the Zimmerman Telegram , America declared war on Germany in 1917. In an
address before a joint meeting of Congress, U.S. President Woodrow Wilsondiscusses the aims of
the United States in World War I and outlines his famous Fourteen Points for achieving a lasting
peace in Europe.
The Fourteen Points is a blueprint for world peace that was to be used for peace negotiations
after World War I, elucidated in a January 8, 1918, speech on war aims and peace terms by U.S.
President Woodrow Wilson. There are few speeches in history that influenced the world in the
way Woodrow Wilson s Fourteen Points speech did. As the leader of the free world, Wilson
addressed a global audience as he outlined the characteristics of an everlasting peace. His words
were echoed in the policies of every major Western power for the rest of the 20th century.

I Have Danced Before But Contra Dancing Essay
I have danced before but never contra dancing. I have done two weeks of ballet dancing and also
two weeks of Hip Hop dance. Before this contra dance experience, I was expecting six different
instructors teaching us how to country dance. I envisioned us all being each other s dance
partners and dancing in a barn sort of setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete
experience and didn t genuinely know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the
flow of how the trip would go. But as soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I
was extremely nervous. Nervous about learning so much with several experienced contra dancers. I
was incredibly nervous that one incorrect move could ruin the entire dance. I was also exceptionally
excited to be learning something so new since I hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was
also dreadfully excited to get to know so many unique and experienced dancers.
Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the building
seemed to be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there wouldn t be many
people. There was also an awfully small parking lot that would fit about seven cars. When I arrived

there is always room for improvement. You should never be satisfied with what you have done.

themes were very obvious to me.

Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation
There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness
intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness
intimidation. Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or
witnesses of a crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victimfeels
threatened, they often become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right
incentives, victims and witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying
against a defendant.
Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence,
property damage, etc. If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. Victims and witnesses receiving help
were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided. (Neubauer and
Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection,
whether inside or outside of court.
There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom,
they are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the
defendant s friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it
lessens the change of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are
incarcerated have the option and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By
separating from certain groups, gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness.
Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of
the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse,
hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance,
it would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near
them in the courthouse is on camera.
One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or
witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when

several various types of people, including other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a
Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a

fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched on the topics of art, music, and

characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This is a type

This week s readings investigate the rise of Islamic opposition and civic society groups in Egypt,
Turkey, and Algeria. In an overarching perspective, the readings contend that the failure of the
post colonial states in providing the public goods and services they were responsible for, as well
as their use of Islamist groups in order to crush the leftist opposition, provided political structures
of opportunity that the Islamic groups were able to exploit. In addition, the state hostility to civic
society Islamic opposition groups, gave rise to militant Islamic groups in some cases. The

through religious charity, Zakat, and was able to provide, at the local level, public goods and

contribution to social stability in poor neighborhoods (Wickham, 104). The regime s tolerance
toward Islamic groups in the mid 1970s, gave rise to the new generations of Islamists, who would

The Internet And Global Positioning System
Humans throughout the ages have used maps to help them travel. As we enter the modern age,
maps on the internet and global positioning system(GPS) have become a more efficient way to
travel because it allows users to get a step by step instruction on how to get to their destination. In
2004, Google debuted Google Maps, a service that that disrupt the GPS device industry and has
paved the way for future navigation and GPS related apps. The success of GoogleMaps was
primarily based on the advances of technology, economic events, its versatility, and how it is
practically free to use.
Google started out as a search engine company that made money from selling ads. Cellular
devices have been popular since the 1900s but as technology advances smartphones took the

the same time Apple was in the same race and competing to seize the smartphone market.
Bragging about design and retail marketing, Apple established their name in the mobile market.
Google was locked in battle with one of the world s largest companies. However, although Apple
had an advantage over design and retail marketing, Google had a completive advantage in
information. In 2008 Google released Google Maps for mobile and it featured a GPS navigation.
This was a critical step for Google because it was estimated that map apps were used the most
right after communication. Currently Google maps is said to be used by 69% of all

Comparing Sonny s Lettah by Linton Kwesi Johnson who is West Indian and Telephone
Conversation by Wole Soyinka Works Cited Missing The poems I have studied are Sonny s
Lettah by Linton Kwesi Johnson who is West Indian and Telephone Conversation by Wole
Soyinka. The theme of both of the poems is based on racism. The language used in both of the
poems is Standard English, dialect, onomatopoeia and symbolic. Johnson s poem is about a man
writing a letter to his mother to inform her about the racist attack on his brother and himself. He
describes how they ended up in prison. Telephone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example: lipstick coated and long gold rolled these terms indicate that the lady is rich. Red
booth, red box and red double tiered, symbolise of racism. It also symbolises that the person is
different from other, and treated as an alien from out of space. Both of the poems make use of
rhythm. In Sonny s Lettah the rhythm is slower at the start and speeds up in the middle and
slows down again at the end. The rhythm gets faster as the fight between the police and the man
starts. For example: Dem tump im in im belly an it turn to jelly Dem lick im pon im back an im
rib get pop The action of fight creates a visual picture and sound effects. The rhythm in Telephone
conversation is slower at the start and gets faster at the end. Rhyme is used in Sonny s Lettah but
not in Telephone conversation. In Sonny s Lettah the use of rhyming words make the poem more
interesting to read. For example: jelly and Belly there is no rhyme in Telephone conversation
because it is a formal conversation between two unknown people. Both of the poems make use of
repetition. In Sonny s Lettah makes good use of repetition, it shows that there is a good relation
between the characters. For example: Jim , Dem , im and ma maa In Telephone Conversation there
is not much repetition than in

The Church As The Good News Of Salvation Essay
Persecution was a continuous problem for the early church as the good news of salvation
through Jesus Christ began to spread. One of the most zealous persecutors of the early church
determined to stop the proliferation of this message was a Pharisee named Saul of Tarsus.
Therefore, to demonstrate that salvation and redemption are for everyone, Jesus called Saul to
help spread the Gospel. This calling was so important that Luke described it three times in Acts.
First, in Acts 9:1 30, then again as Paul speaks before a Jewish crowd in Acts 22:3 21, and finally
before Jewish King Agrippa as a defense given by Paul in Acts 26:2 23. Luke wanted his readers to
understand that while Saul of Tarsuswas a zealous persecutor of Christians, his calling/conversion to
Christianitycauses an enormous growth in the Christian church.
Saul was born in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia (in modern day Turkey). His parents were Jewish
who possessed Roman citizenship. According to Harrer, his father, or some more distant male
ascendant, must have been made Roman either by the grant of freedom, if he were a slave, or by
naturalization, if he were a free provincial or foreigner This coveted privilege would also extend
to Saul. In addition to being a Roman citizen, Saul s father was a Pharisee which Saul would also
eventually become.
It is believed that Saul and his family moved to Jerusalem at some point during Saul s childhood. In
Acts 22:3, Saul comments about Jerusalem being his boyhood home.

Moon Landing Exploratory Essay
Moon Landing 1969
Ignition sequence starts, three, two, one, all engine running, zero, lift off. On July 16th 9:32 a.m.,
Apollo 11 was successfully launched as millions watched. Indeed, the lunar mission of the Apollo
11 was a new break through in the field of space exploration. Soon after, however, many
controversies were raised on the authenticity of this event. Many critics of the lunar landing believe
that this event was a hoax perpetuated to deceive the society. The debate, whether the moon landing
of 1969 was a hoax or a true event, continues today.
The space race, during the Cold War, all started with the launch of the first artificial satellite,
Sputnik 1. Although this shiny piece of metal ball sent meaningless beep beep ... Show more

Even if scientists wanted to make something like a Moon rock by, say, bombarding an Earth rock
with high energy atomic nuclei, they couldn t (Phillips). In addition, Phillip C. Plait agrees with
Tony Phillips and comes to the same conclusions. For example he states there are no stars in the
picture because, The stars are too faint to be seen in the images (Plait 159). However, unlike Tony
Phillips, Plait explains the scientific reasons in depth. He claims astronauts have survived the
incredibly high temperature of the Moon due to simple date counting. He explains, Moon spins on
its axis once every 27 days ... [which] means ... two weeks of sunlight and two weeks of darkness...
the surface doesn t heat up the instant the sunlight touches it...It takes days for the lunar surface to
get to its high temperature... (Plait 166).
The author of the paper believes the moon landing of 1969 really happened. The main reasons
coming to this conclusion is that the lies could not be told by such huge amount of people and the
theories can be all explained and understood with a little studying on physics and astronomy. If
this were a hoax, more than a handful of people would have spoken up the secret. The author of
this paper also believes that the photos and the films from NASA are real evidences, but have been
misinterpreted due to the lack of knowledge on astronomy and physics. This topic still remains to
be debated over because the moon landing was

  • 2. Resilience Research Paper In this huge world everyone is unique. These unique individuals go through many mental stress, trauma and bad experiences in life. Due to this some of them are not affected but many are affected by psychological, mental or physical illness. So what would be explanation for this happening? By resiliency we can explain this phenomenon in better way. In real life doctors are also promoting this concept to examine this in every effected individual. In this article, I review theoretical and by experimental studies by comparing no difficulty or high difficulty with people experience difficulty built resilience. That may increase the power of facing difficulties and stress in future. Without struggle, resilience does not exist by Hawley. To understand the resilience we need to understand the concept of stress. Stress is somewhat subjective both in the measurement of severity and experience; the way in which individuals perceive and interpret stressors may vary greatly (Bowes Jaffee, 2013). In this articles we found that stress is the reason by which resilience occur. Fergusson, D.M. Woodward, L.J. The Great West was a sensational place, I have seen many sensational places with great majestic sites. There are 2 places that I preferred. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Big Sur, California. I was very excited for this road trip, because it was the first time I did something on my own. My vehicle was a shiny Black Toyota Celica. It contained a smell of ocean breezes, and cigarettes in the interior of the car. The sun was bright and the sky dark baby blue. It was cold that day and windy. The humidity was high and when the wind would blow it was freezing. In addition, I began my trip West, I was earnest about this trip. Next, I noticed things changing rapidly. The first 1500 miles was boring. After that, I was driving through Kansas. It started to look, feel, and even smell different. Kansas is a long state to drive across. • 4. The Political Corruption Of The United States Political Corruption All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be forbidden by law This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be disastrous when involved in election cycles. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and Super PAC s could donate unlimited amount of money to support candidates. The Citizens United ruling has caused increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money they need to win an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to the company. Pre Citizens United There were several landmark supreme court cases and laws before Citizens United that attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption can easily be caused by increased amounts of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit corporate interests because that will allow them to get more money later to help in reelection efforts. This becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the ability to donate large sums of money to a candidate. This makes the speech of large corporations worth far more than the average citizen. This can have a drastic impact on the marketplace of ideas. John Stuart Mills in his book, On Liberty, creates the marketplace of ideas. This marketplace consists of all speech being able to have equal weight and face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Effect of the Steam Engine on the Industrial Revolution Effect of Steam Engine on Industrial Revolution The economy of England during the 18th century was one that needed rebuilding after many years of war with other countries. A breakthrough of new technology and ideas boosted the economy, creating a time known commonly as the Industrial Revolution. Specifically, there was one invention that defined the Industrial Revolution. The steam engine, a device powered by coal used to run machines at an efficient rate, was developed during the Industrial Revolution. The invention of the steam engine had a major effect on the economy of England during the Industrial Revolution through its use in mining, transportation, and factories. Thomas Savory created the very first steam engine in 1698, however it was hardly used due to its unreliability ().Savory s engine was widely advertised, however it could only be put under a certain amount of pressure before it exploded (). Industrialist Matthew Boulton brought Watt over to England to work with him on building his steam engine, providing him with the inventors and equipment needed to complete the engine ().Watt moved to the center of the Industrial Revolution in Birmingham, England, working with other inventors to build his steam engine (). Many different industrialists were able to provide their facilities and equipment to help Watt make his steam engine (). I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent reading project. The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a Holocaust survivor and the youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On The Wooden Box in 2013, with the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the war are shared. In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in KrakГіw, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was placed in the center of KrakГіw. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to go to America. One main theme the music of the hippies was that it was often filled with anger, anger directed at those who would abuse the Constitution for their benefit, who would sell America out and betray all She stands for in other words, their parents and government. Many people claimed the hippies were un American and disrespected and ridiculed patriotism, but in fact they had a great respect for America and believed themselves to be true patriots. They refused to let America be less than it could be, demanding that it should live up to its potential, that it should shine like a beacon to the world as our founding forefathers had intended. Hairreflects this more genuine form of tough love patriotism in many scenes, most notably in the song Don t Put it Down. This song shows a unique dichotomy between true patriotism and symbolic patriotism. More importantly, it makes the emphatic point that there is more than one way to be patriotic. In the original staging of the song, two of the singers folded the American flag in proper military fashion as they sang, demonstrating that they do respect this symbol of their country. The other side of the song takes the title literally, laughing at the idea that the flag can never touch the ground. In this way, the song suggests that perhaps those self proclaimed patriots who wanted flag burners and hippie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

News represents the American society so therefore American broadcasters should reflect society as a whole. In addition, many people consider news anchors role models and it is important to see themselves represented and trust their news source. The lack of diversity among newscasters impacts the audience s reception of the news. People are more likely to trust news sources that they relate to and identify with. Many people do not even notice the lack of diversity or understand the impact it has on society. There needs to be more of an effort to reflect diversity among our newscasters to correct the history of discrimination, to accurately reflect the audience and to provide role models and promote positive images. Therefore same sex couples in Ohio, Tennessee , Kentucky, and Michigan went and sued these agencies in challenge of their constitutional rights (Oyez). They took their issue to court because they believed that the states were denying them their 14th amendment rights without due process. While it is not a personal choice for me, I see it best to support it for those who make that choice. In the Constitution marriage is not defined as the unity between a man and women, but the unity of two persons. As long as those two persons are both legal citizens of the United States then they should have full protection under the Constitution. This would include their fundamental right to marriage. Same sex should be seen equal to opposite sex marriage because the standards are no different. Just like in the case of Loving v Virginia, once you take away the factor of race or sexuality, you are left with the same principal foundations as you are of a hetero sexual couple. Therefore it would be an act of discrimination to deny legal marriage to same sex partners. Some will argue that the Bible defines marriage as between a man and women, and while that is true, it is not recognized by the court. Because it is stated in a religious doctrine and the United States has freedom of religion, this point can not be made legal valid in any situation and therefore is irrelevant. Another argument also commonly made in opposition to same sex marriage is that its legality is within the power of the states and not the national government. While the power to issue marriage licenses is given to the state, that s not all that the case argues. It argues that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We always think that happiness is a place to be or a destination and technically, that is the main premise or goal of our lives; to obtain happiness. So our whole lives go by from the minute were born to the last breath we take in a quest to work hard in order to reach that destination. Naturally, many philosophical writers have jumped on the bandwagon and put in their two cents of their views on the matter of happiness. ( Pope 369) According to Pope, we as humans should learn to simply accept our position in the great chain of being. If we are able to do so, we will be able to successfully live happy lives. Man s place in the chain is below the angels but above beasts. Each element of the chain is only a part, so we as humans are only part of the whole of God s plan. Then we have Voltaire who wrote Candide. Voltaire was one of those people who started questioning life as it was being lived as opposed to Pope who accepted life the way it was. He was not an Atheist because he did believe in a God. Although he believed in God, he had a problem with religion and questioned things written in the Bible, so basically he was a confused individual looking for answers. • 25. Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. (Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however, unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic, vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept. He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use, all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters. First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. Be that as it may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every apparatus, we can potentially save the life of a rescuer. • 31. I Have Danced Before But Contra Dancing Essay I have danced before but never contra dancing. I have done two weeks of ballet dancing and also two weeks of Hip Hop dance. Before this contra dance experience, I was expecting six different instructors teaching us how to country dance. I envisioned us all being each other s dance partners and dancing in a barn sort of setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete experience and didn t genuinely know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the flow of how the trip would go. But as soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I was extremely nervous. Nervous about learning so much with several experienced contra dancers. I was incredibly nervous that one incorrect move could ruin the entire dance. I was also exceptionally excited to be learning something so new since I hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was also dreadfully excited to get to know so many unique and experienced dancers. Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the building seemed to be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there wouldn t be many people. There was also an awfully small parking lot that would fit about seven cars. When I arrived in this space I realize how enormous it was and questioned myself Are we really going to need all of this space? As people started to arrive I was able to see all the different types of attire that people would wear to contra dance. I also got to see how many people were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Essay Comparing The River And The Crossover The River and The Crossover both had important lessons in them. THey had similar and different points in what they were saying. The takeaway I liked the most from both of these writings was there is always room for improvement. You should never be satisfied with what you have done. You want to be remembered for what you do, not for helping someone else live their dream. These themes were very obvious to me. Josh wasn t satisfied in what he done in the game before or in practice earlier, he wanted to get better. He even got better in free throws, which he hated and that was his worst skill in basketball. His father also pushed him to practice harder so he would get better. In the song, The River, Garth Brooks mentioned that some people don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness intimidation. Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or witnesses of a crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victimfeels threatened, they often become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right incentives, victims and witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying against a defendant. Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence, property damage, etc. If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. Victims and witnesses receiving help were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided. (Neubauer and Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection, whether inside or outside of court. There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom, they are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the defendant s friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it lessens the change of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are incarcerated have the option and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By separating from certain groups, gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness. Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse, hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance, it would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near them in the courthouse is on camera. One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Beloit University Personal Statement I have been largely influenced by my first geology advisor at ASMSA, Dr. Lindsey Waddell, who strongly advocated for liberal arts education and a Keck experience. Because of her advocacy and outspokenness, I decided to attend Beloit College in an effort to obtain the best geology education possible, through both its curriculum and Keck membership. I hope to become a well rounded geoscientist that is not entirely confined by their narrow interests, but one that studies the Earth as an integrative system through an interdisciplinary lens. After my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend graduate schooland earn a Master s in Geology and a PhD in Oceanography or Marine Geology. Alternatively, I will consider other opportunities such as GeoCorps or Peace Corps. • 36. Open City by Teju Cole Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American. Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student working at an Internet cafГ©. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters, the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This is a type of writingthat even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Victory is not also about winning; it s also about changing, as one cannot progress without change. Victory is not always about winning; it s also about how you are determined to succeed so therefore determination is like a soldier; to survive a conflict, you must persevere to continue. This is why Freedom Writers directed by Richard Lagravenese, Divergent by Neil Burger, Glory Road directed by James Gartner, and The Pursuit of Happiness by Gabriele Muccino, all set in different times were attempting to express the message that, overcoming obstacles takes effort, resilience, and determination. The films are mainly about how the protagonist who struggles in life overcame their obstacles by having determination, being resilient. In an overarching perspective, the readings contend that the failure of the post colonial states in providing the public goods and services they were responsible for, as well as their use of Islamist groups in order to crush the leftist opposition, provided political structures of opportunity that the Islamic groups were able to exploit. In addition, the state hostility to civic society Islamic opposition groups, gave rise to militant Islamic groups in some cases. This sector included private mosques, Islamic voluntary associations, as well is Islamic for profit commercial enterprises (Wickham, 97). The financing of such associations came mainly through religious charity, Zakat, and was able to provide, at the local level, public goods and services that the state failed to provide, such as schooling, day care, and health clinics (Wickham, 99). The regime tolerated this sector because it did not pose a threat to it, and due to its contribution to social stability in poor neighborhoods (Wickham, 104). The regime s tolerance toward Islamic groups in the mid 1970s, gave rise to the new generations of Islamists, who would later form part of the leadership of both militant and reformist sections of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as other Islamic groups (Wickham, 117). This indicates that the success of the MB in mobilizing public support was in great part because they offered an alternative to the state s failure in providing the services it was supposed to, and not necessarily due to the belief in the political agenda of the MB. The article by Tessler contends that the support to Islamic groups in Algeria, was cultivated mainly due to the social welfare functions such groups assumed (Tessler, 113). In 2004, Google debuted Google Maps, a service that that disrupt the GPS device industry and has paved the way for future navigation and GPS related apps. The success of GoogleMaps was primarily based on the advances of technology, economic events, its versatility, and how it is practically free to use. • 42. The Church As The Good News Of Salvation Essay Persecution was a continuous problem for the early church as the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ began to spread. One of the most zealous persecutors of the early church determined to stop the proliferation of this message was a Pharisee named Saul of Tarsus. Therefore, to demonstrate that salvation and redemption are for everyone, Jesus called Saul to help spread the Gospel. This calling was so important that Luke described it three times in Acts. First, in Acts 9:1 30, then again as Paul speaks before a Jewish crowd in Acts 22:3 21, and finally before Jewish King Agrippa as a defense given by Paul in Acts 26:2 23. Luke wanted his readers to understand that while Saul of Tarsuswas a zealous persecutor of Christians, his calling/conversion to Christianitycauses an enormous growth in the Christian church. Saul was born in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia (in modern day Turkey). His parents were Jewish who possessed Roman citizenship. According to Harrer, his father, or some more distant male ascendant, must have been made Roman either by the grant of freedom, if he were a slave, or by naturalization, if he were a free provincial or foreigner This coveted privilege would also extend to Saul. In addition to being a Roman citizen, Saul s father was a Pharisee which Saul would also eventually become. It is believed that Saul and his family moved to Jerusalem at some point during Saul s childhood. In Acts 22:3, Saul comments about Jerusalem being his boyhood home. ...
