The main software package for cross–section extraction (unfolding) in T2K is called the
xsTool~cite{xsTool}. xsTool integrates different unfolding algorithms from
RooUnfold~cite{RooUnfAlg} and is responsible for the calculation of the error propagation.
Generally, the unfolding algorithms can be categorized into three main groups:

subsection{Regularized Singular Value Decomposition}
Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) technique provides a pseudo–inverse for the detector response

2. and the columns of U and V represent the left– and right–singular vectors, respectively.
This process could be visualized as a rotation by an orthogonal matrix, then stretching by a diagonal
one and finally another rotation to bring the truth vector as close as possible to the measured vector.

how to discover subtle relationships that might exist between the documents by applying
dimensionality reduction to remove noise from the data and better apply the statistical data mining
methods in any given the collection of documents will be tested .
The phrase–based document similarity approach to compute the pair–wise similarities of documents
based on the Suffix Tree Document (STD) model will experimented in. The results will show that
the performance obtained by the proposed measure should be better than that achieved by other
measures, and the similarity between two sets of documents will evaluated on several real–world
data sets for specific problems.

9. Argumentative Essay On Emerging Adulthood
"It's a development that predates the current economic doldrums, and no one knows yet what the
impact will be... – The traditional cycle seems to have gone off course, as young people remain
untethered to romantic partners or to permanent homes, going back to school for lack of better
options, traveling, avoiding commitments, competing ferociously for unpaid internships or
temporary (and often grueling) Teach for America jobs, forestalling the beginning of adult life"
(Henig 199). This quote by Robin Marantz Henig is a very powerful portrayal of my generation.
Today, people from the ages of 18 to 29 tend to focus more on themselves and what they want to do,
rather than getting married and acquiring jobs. However, these young adults that experience
"emerging adulthood" tend to be part of a higher socioeconomic status and are "privileged enough"
to put off the responsibilities of adulthood; on the other hand, people who have a lower
socioeconomic status tend to grow up faster and have more responsibilities. Arnett's "emerging
adulthood" argument's biggest weakness is that it demonstrates that "emerging adulthood" is not
universal. Since this period is only acceptable for the "well off" kids I believe we should reject the
idea of this period.
American society should not try to include emerging adulthood as a legitimate life stage. This notion
that people in their twenties should be held to a lower standard regarding life progress is absurd.
What this does is it coddles and babies' younger adults and tells them that everything is okay, you
have the next seven years to be a kid. This encourages poor decisions regarding marriage, finances,
and finding a career. If this, hypothetically, were to be a generally accepted idea, consider how many
people would end up without a life plan. This leads Arnett's emerging adulthood transitions from
twenties to thirties, to thirties into forties. Statistically, a person who has begun a legitimate career
by the age of twenty–four or twenty–five, will be leaps and bounds ahead of someone just entering
the workforce in the same career at the age of thirty or later. On a different note, emerging adulthood
does not really include individuals who are pursuing a master's degree

11. Reasons For The For Destitute
Despite the fact that occasionally it may be difficult to check the careful number of vagrants through
the world, some measurable figures have demonstrated that the globe has as yet confronting this
worldwide issue for quite a while. The rate of vagrancy in our general public is expanding because
of numerous variables. Be that as it may, what is destitute? Destitute is characterized as the state of
individuals without standard house or safe house who live in roads or stations. A few individuals
trust that absence of moderate lodging is the greatest reason for vagrancy. Notwithstanding,
emotional sickness and unemployment issues have directed individuals to wind up destitute.
Vagrancy is a real wonder in our general public because of the quantity of individuals living in the
road. The reasons for destitute are various. The principal motivation behind why individuals get to
be destitute is on the grounds that they have a dysfunctional behavior. Most importantly, a person
with memory impedance is not have the capacity to work or to do any gainful movement so that
he/she can 't procure cash professionally. This condition obliged the individual for asking to survive.
Therefore, the rationally sick individual begins to feel more good in the road, and spend all the day
and night in this spot. In the article "Getting to be and Remaining Homeless" (Morrell–Bellai,
Goering, and Boydell ) refer to Snow and Anderson who composed that emotional sickness issues

13. Who Is Sherlock Holmes A Misunderstood Man
A Misunderstood Man People strive every day to be the best individual they can be. They are taught
that characteristics such as humility, loyalty, kindness, respect, and being strong–willed are all
admired by others, and thus within society. But how can one individual be admired for possessing
these characteristics when society focuses only on the negative aspects of people? It is especially
hard to live up to such high expectations when an individual is not even recognized for
implementing good behavior and possessing noble characteristics. This idea of society's negative
outlook is present in Arthur Conan Doyle's, "A Scandal in Bohemia", through the main character of
Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is portrayed in an undesirable light based off ... Show more content on

Watson, for example is Holmes' only real friend which is evident as Watson describes his daily
routine of life. Holmes associates with Watson because he has earned his respect even though
Watson tends to focus on the negative at times. He helps Holmes in the Bohemia case and is
rewarded with appreciation for his doings. Irene Adler who was originally the antagonist in the short
story quickly wins the approval of Holmes. She foils his overall plan of retrieving the picture from
her and being able to help the King. Watson tells of Holmes' impression of Adler, "To Sherlock
Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name"
(Doyle 7). Her being referred to as "the woman" makes sense since Holmes has such a high degree
of respect for her since she was able to defeat him. He met his match and is able to acknowledge and
respect her for her high degree of intelligence as well. The King of Bohemia on the other hand, did
not earn the respect of Holmes for his lack of respect towards Irene Adler and his soon to be wife. In
"A Scandal in Bohemia", the King shows his true colors by the conclusion of the story when talking
of Adler, "Did I not tell you how quick and resolute she was? Would she not have made an
admirable queen? Is it not a pity that she was not on my level?" (Doyle 30) In this statement it is
evident the King sees himself above those who are not in his station such as Adler and most likely
Holmes and Watson as well. It is also clear that he does not love his future wife, since he so readily
thinks that Adler could have been a better match for him. After this, Holmes obviously refuses to
shake the King's hand, showing his disapproval for his actions and overall demeanor. Holmes only
respects those worthy of it such as Watson and

15. If Shakespeare Can Do It
If Shakespeare Can Do It Because my wife has an English degree, she always defends her made up
words and grammar rules by simply stating, "Shakespeare did it, I can too." Now, I don't always
agree with her just–because–I–have–an–English–degree attitude, but we do agree on one small
thing: The written English language needs a singular gender–neutral pronoun that replaces the
clunky alternatives English speakers have now. English is a relatively young language compared to
most others still around today. Currently, we are taught that the use of singular they is incorrect, and
instead we should use either "he," "him or her," or "s/he," when referring to someone whose gender
is unclear. Others say English writers should move toward a singular pronoun to use with a singular
antecedent.
How perfect is it that English speakers already use this particular pronoun? Singular they. Think
about it. Typically, when people speak, they do not use "his or her" or "s/he." People use "they"
when referring to one person of an undetermined gender. For example, "Someone left their coat
here, we should let them know." That makes perfect sense to us. We know that "them" in this
sentence refers to the singular antecedent "someone."
Language evolves alongside it's society, because of this, you don't see many English speakers still
using "thou" to refer to one person. As many people know, singular thou was a more formal and
polite way of saying "you". Sometime in the 18th century, the use of

17. The Design Arguments For The Existence Of God
The design arguments for the existence of God center on the principle that an intelligent designer, in
this case God, has crafted our world so that each item has a purpose and significant meaning.
Additionally, the world is a complex and sometimes enigmatic system of elements which work
together to sustain life in a way that some argue is unlikely to have occurred by pure chance alone.
Therefore, some philosophers credit a divine being as the source of this order and purpose in the
universe. Furthermore, William Paley offers a version of the design argument in which he employs
simple analogy between a watchmaker and God to demonstrate God's presence. However, critics of
this approach to proving God's existence object to this simplistic analogy of the origin of natural
components in the world and instead argue that an evolutionary perspective better explains the
existence of such objects and therefore, for the sake of simplicity, a divine being does not need to
remain in the equation. As a result, both the objections of flaws in the format of Paley's argument
and the needless inclusion of God as a designer cannot successfully be refuted by supporters of
Paley.
Arguably the most famous design argument was proposed by philosopher William Paley who used
the analogy of a watch and a watchmaker to illustrate his point of view. He claimed that a watch was
created with many interconnected parts which moved together in very specific and precise motions
to allow for its intended

19. The Giver Is Better Than The Giver
Comparatively many experiences thru out life that give views of two kinds of human beings – those
who give and those who take. Every day people make the decisions about whether to act as takers or
givers. Success and satisfaction in life depends on how much we care for the happiness of others.
Success is often determined by a person's achievements, however, it also applies to one's
relationship with others. Many people are naturally reluctant to seek help when they feel as though
their compassion is being taken advantage of by takers. This is especially true when people equate
being a giver with being weak as many may think it is pointless, particularly in the different ethnic
cultures. They also may fear of annoying their co–workers, or ... Show more content on

The strength individuals must possess in order to be a giver is something very few people have. And
it is this very strength that makes these type of people end up becoming successful. One example of
this would be when three other students and I were assigned teams for a senior project in high
school. Sarah impressed us with her expertise, but it turned out that Jason, Donte' and Nat did most
of the work; while Sarah only contributed empty promises and lengthy excuses. We had an
agreement to meet once a week for an hour before senior seminar to work on the project. But then
every week Sarah would walk into class claiming that no one told her, she hadn't gotten any emails,
or she had to care for her elderly grandmother. This project was worth more than half our course
grade and the rest of us were getting stressed. The group continued researching articles for the
project. Sarah was so out of touch that when she did finally bring an article, it was incorrect. So
Jason found another article while Donte' and Nat wrote it up. The three of us finished the group
work. The evening of the presentation, Sarah happily attended the presentation as our group got an A

24. The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat Summary
"Each of us is a singular narrative, which is constructed, continually, unconsciously, by, through, and
in us–through our perceptions, our feelings, our thoughts, our actions; and, not least, our discourse,
our spoken narrations. Biologically, physiologically, we are not so different from each other;
historically, as narratives–we are each of us unique."–The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, by
Oliver Sacks. There are approximately 7.1 billion people in the world, all of whom have their own
lives, their own outlooks on life and their own thoughts. As the quote states, every single person on
earth is different. How can that be? If we are all so biologically similar how can human personalities
be entirely unique? These questions fascinate me and whilst I haven't always thought of them as
psychological questions I have always enjoyed observing the different ways that people behave in
normal social situations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Through research I became aware that at an early age children learn and understand complex social
concepts before they learn basic numeracy and literacy skills. This led me to question that if we are
able to grasp this as infants, how do societal norms occur and what motivates us to conform to
them? Furthermore, why do some not feel a need to? Investigating studies that deal with these

26. The Issue Of Personal Identity Essay
If persons persist over time then by what criteria do we determine their identity at different times?
This is the issue of personal identity over time which continues to plague philosophers. What is it
that allows me to say I am the same person today as I was yesterday or I will be tomorrow? Am I
actually the same person? There has been no general consensus on the answer to this question.
However many have proposed solutions to this question. When it comes to this hard problem of why
persons last or persist over time there are two opposing points of view points. There is the
perdurance or four dimensionalism view, which maintains that objects persist as a series of temporal
parts that are simply related to each other. The other view is that of endurance which states that
objects endure over time by being wholly present at each and every time they exist and must be
numerically identical to each other in order to be the same thing, in such a way that they are one and
the same. This paper seeks to explore what is the criterion or criteria of person identity by which we
determine one person at one time and a person at another time to be one and the same. In order to
answer this question the perdurance and endurance approaches to the problem of personal identity
over time will be explored. These views will be explored through the discussion of four prominent
philosophers in the views. In this paper I will propose ultimately Rosenkranzt's endurance view, the
theory of

Assess the individual in a health and social care setting Compare and contrast the range and purpose
of different forms of assessment
The assessment process is the back bone to any package of care and it is vital that it is personal and
appropriate to the individual concerned. Although studies have found that there is no singular theory
or understanding as to what the purpose of assessment is, there are different approaches and forms
of assessment carried out in health and social care. These different approaches can sometimes result
in different outcomes.
One method of assessment used is a holistic approach. To assess an individual in a holistic manner is

The next stage is to implement the care package, ensuring all the care staffs involved are made
aware of the individuals' needs and preferences. After 6 weeks we would then review the care
package, making any adjustments if required, and following that the care package would be
reviewed again in 12 months. If for any reason there was a change to the individuals needs or
situation then a review would be carried out at an earlier date in order to address the change.
Research was carried out by 'Smale et al (1993)' which suggested three different models of
assessment. One model was the 'Questioning Model' which suggests that the assessor leads the
process by questioning the individual and developing a more 'service led' assessment. Another
model is the 'Procedural Model'. I believe this method would be used more commonly be social
workers when means testing an individual for a suitable care package. The 'Procedural Model' is
based on a set of criteria and checklists which a professional would carry out based on the needs of
the individual. I do not feel that this method would be appropriate for setting up a care package in a

Bilinear resampling is known also bilinear filtering or bilinear interpolation. Bilinear resampling is
used to smooth out when they are displayed smaller or larger than they actually are. the bilinear
resampling is done by interpolating between the four pixels nearest to the point that best represents
that pixel
(usually in the middle or upper left of the pixel). The bilinear resampling takes a weighted average
of 4 pixels in the original image nearest to the new pixel location The averaging process modifies
the original pixel values and creates entirely new digital values in the output image. Bilinear
resampling results are smoother, accurate, without stairstepped effect. But it has some limitations that

Although it was deserted simply due to the fact that it was Sunday, the empty Hall of Justice
symbolizes freedom. Specifically, this can be seen when Joe states, It would be...heartless terror.

that an empty Hall of Justice symbolizes freedom from both the Hall and the idea of justice itself.
Aside from this point in the play, the subject of justice had been brought up twice before.
Immediately preceding Joe's description of an empty Hall of Justice, in Act II, Scene 6, Joe had
struggled with the concepts of justice and ethics when contemplating accepting the job offer Roy

The Enlightenment was a period where reason was utilized to answer questions, however, it was
also a period in which religion was a huge part of society, especially under a monarch rule in which
God had appointed a King and under his reign everyone followed his views. Years earlier, many
began to question the church's authority and split in views, giving rise to Protestants a division
existing among Europe. Years later during the 18th century individuals began using reason to
explain certain situations, many utilized nature surrounding them to justify their answers concerning
religion. Difference in opinion was extremely dangerous to the monarch as it could spark a rebellion
too ultimately challenge the church. Existing within Europe were two types of individuals, those
who followed the church and believed in everything they said and those who critiqued the church
and the monarch yet heavily believed it was necessary for society to behave. Hence, atheism was
despised and throughout the article from the encyclopedia, author Abbe Yvon attempts to discard the
idea that society can have order without believing in a supreme being. Through Abbe Yvon's text on
atheists, we can learn and affirm that society diverse as it was through religion and beliefs, 18th
century Europe did not tolerate atheism and immediately categorized as threatening individuals.

The presentation of the character which come from the illusion of deist arguments does not give a

rights problem has become a very important issue. Digital watermarking is now drawing attention as
a new method of protecting multimedia content from unauthorized copying. Over the past two
decades, many digital watermarking algorithms have been developed, each with its own advantages
and disadvantages. The main aim of this paper is to present a survey report of recently done work in
audio watermarking fields.

LITERATURE SURVEY
The audio watermarking has been a hot research area for protection of digital sound content. Many
researchers have suggested algorithms for that. Some has also done a good survey of previous work
done. That helps fellow researchers to work forward. In [1] Komal et. al presented a survey report
on various audio watermarking algorithms. They divided the work into three main categories: spread
spectrum algorithm, amplitude modification, replica method, dither watermarking and self marking
method. As per the author the spread spectrum method has the problem of synchronisation and time
consumed is higher whereas replica is good for synchronisation but echo handling is worst.
Amplitude modification method needs large channel capacity and introduces noise too. Overall self
marking method is good for synchronisation and robust for watermarking. Ali Al–Haj [2] in his
paper proposed solution for shortcomings of spread spectrum method is overcome by combining it
with singular value decomposition for high rate of robustness. To make it more robust the
watermark bits are inserted diagonally into wavelet transformed input audio signals and a
controlling gain parameter is introduced. This method also

43. Identity Synthesis Essay
As humans, identity is relevant to every one of us. It allows us to be defined by our unique,
complex, and individual characteristics rather than a broader classification like species. Beyond this,
it further distinguishes us from other animals because the concept lets us have a sense of who we are
and how we relate to the world around us. You touch on this in your section about individuality as
well as your section on self–awareness. I appreciate these points because they are understandable
and relatable. The essay contains some glaring errors, but the paper shows promise in its current
state. Simply proofreading, especially searching for the errors I will mention, will drastically
improve it and allow you to improve and add to the content. Even though you can expand your
points and discuss them more, they provide a strong basis for your essay. You not only cover a

throughout your paper, you manage to spell each one correctly. Along with your impeccable

These vary your word choice and interest the readers. Adding more advanced vocabulary as you edit
will strengthen your paper immensely. Implementing sophisticated vocab will also fix one of the
paper's biggest issues. Approximately sixty–three out of eighty–three lines contain a variation of the
verb to be. Replacing these, mostly the word is, will improve the essay tremendously. Some
sentences may only require switching the order of words, but others will need a new verb to replace
them. Unique verbs will engage the reader and reduce awkward wording such as, is because that is
precisely what it is. This provides a significant opportunity to add even more varied vocabulary and

45. Modern Technology And Its Impact On Society
Before modern technology, men would band together for the protection of their families. History has
proven people group together for survival, whether that be warmth, food, or protection. The idea
was that a group is stronger and more profitable than one person acting alone. Each tribe or
gathering of individuals working together is considered a society. A society is nothing more than a
group of people living together for a common purpose, or simply because it is more convenient. But,
if all societies were thriving entities, then we would not know the hardships that have repeated
throughout history, such as, poverty and famine. On the contrary, a society that works well is a
society that works for the well–being of its individual members. A high functioning and successful
society is built on a foundation of trust and equality and enforced by a governing body. Trust in
people is merely a relationship of reliance and an intrinsic part of human nature. It is established at
the family level and expands outward as the child matures. Each being depends on their families to
provide as one depends on educators to teach. Furthermore, trust is necessary for institutions such as
schools, hospitals, businesses, and even the government to effectively operate. The workforce
expects their employers to give a cash–able paycheck in return for their hard worked hours;
consumers give a business compensation on the basis of receiving a product or service in return; and

compression techniques are presented by using existing techniques such as Singular value
decomposition, wavelet difference reduction (WDR) and Adaptive wavelet difference reduction
(ASWDR). The SVD has been taken as a standard technique to hybrid with WDR and ASWDR.
Firstly SVD is combined with WDR (SVD–WDR) and after that it is combined with its advance
version that is ASWDR (SVD–ASWDR) in order to achieve better image quality and higher
compression rate. These two techniques are implemented or tested on several images and results are
compared in terms of PSNR, MSE and CR.

For it to be used properly, one must let go of all their previous notions of talk or any other kind

say that talking about their issues just makes them more upset and vulnerable, but the point of
therapy is to discuss their problems; hiding does not relieve the problem. The point of therapy is to

51. Montaigne – of Cannibals
Acceptance and understanding into a persons society is one of the major goals that people strive to
achieve. There is a natural tendency for the individual to be compelled to join the majority. Many
times, however, a person will change themselves to fit into the group instead of having the group
change itself for the person. This forces a person to take action, form opinions or adopt customs that
do not reflect their own beliefs. Montaigne addresses the differences between two distinctly
different forms of society in his essay Of Cannibals. Montaigne's comparison between the recently
discovered aborigines of the new world and his European society compels a person to reconsider
what an ideal society should be. Should a natural state be the ... Show more content on

The absence of vices also means an absence of a more comfortable living standard. A more
comfortable living standard creates more vices. I believe the inhabitants of the new world could live
out their lifestyle because they were ignorant to their own possibilities. However, these possibilities
were discovered and utilized by the Europeans. With more knowledge and understanding the basic
society that Europe once belonged to grew into the society that discovered the new world.
The possibility of discovering what an ideal society would be portrayed as is an impossible feat.
This is impossible because the ideal society is all subjective. I agree with Montaigne that the basic
society, that is ignorant of their potential creativity and imagination, can create an ideal society. I do
not agree however, that a complex society is only the things he says it is, brutal and greedy. I believe
that he has overlooked all the good qualities that a basic society can

53. Descartes Belief in God Essay
Descartes and God
In his groundbreaking work, Meditations on First Philosophy, the French philosopher Rene
Descartes lays the groundwork for many philosophical principles by attempting to establish a bold
and lasting knowledge (171)1. The foundations for knowledge Descartes established would go on
to influence a plethora of other philosophers and philosophical works. Descartes argues in his
meditations first from the point of view of complete skepticism, using skepticism as a tool in order
to discover what is real. Through this method, Descartes explains the existence of man as a
thinking thing, the capacity for human error, the overall trustworthiness of our senses, the
existence of a physical world, the mind and body as separate ... Show more content on

Descartes first uses a scientific cause–and–effect principle to claim that his clear idea of God is
proof of God's existence. Descartes claims that the light of nature has reveled that there is at least
as much in a complete efficient cause as in its effect (178). By using this principle, Descartes
claims that since his clear perception of God is a supremely perfect being, and since there is as much
reality in his idea of God as in its cause, then God must exist as the only being with as much reality
as his idea of God. Since Descartes has just proven God is the pinnacle of complete perfection and
deception always contain(s) imperfection, then God cannot be an evil deceiver as Descartes earlier
hypothesized (183).
Descartes also delves into how the idea of God must come from God himself. Since God cannot be
taken in through senses, and since Descartes himself didn't create the idea of God, Descartes
claims that the idea of God must be innate...like my idea of myself (182). Descartes uses this
argument to claim that God put this idea into me...like a craftsman's mark on his work (182).
Descartes now sees himself and mankind created in God's own image, and since he has proven God
is perfect, God wouldn't have created man specifically deceive them or to give them the capacity to
err. According to this premise, Descartes infers that our senses aren't made to err and will deliver
truths when used correctly. Descartes deduces man's ability to err stems from

59. What Is The Tone In Prose For Children By Barbauld
In her 'Preface' to Hymns in Prose for Children, Anna Laetitia Barbauld affirms that:
That Barbauld is a believing woman is incontrovertible: she seeks, after all, to 'impress devotional
feelings' upon the minds of her young readers. It is also evident, however, that Barbauld is not
especially interested in communicating scriptural minutiae and theological specificities to her
readers: the Hymns, as Lynne Vallone notes, mostly 'preach analogically to the children of
privilege' – children for whom 'the pastoral world of the Hymns', where praising God 'is the only
imperative', is a recognisable world – 'to love God: as [they] respect and are awed by the beauty of
nature so should [they] be thankful to and praise the God who is the Creator of Nature'. Barbauld
intimates, in fact, that the phenomena and processes of the 'natural', or physical, world corroborate
the existence of a divine presence; in discussing the natural order of things, and in encouraging the
reader to both look out for and make note of ecological patterns and quirks, Barbauld seems to
insinuate, in turn, that religion cannot be taught in churches and classrooms – that it must, instead,
be learned spontaneously through one's observations of the universe.
It is, of course, possible that Barbauld believed children incapable of grasping orthodox
constructions, or interpretations, of God and His designs. In her 'Preface' to the Hymns, she
mentions, for example, that poetry – 'an elevation in thought and style

While talking to new classmates about our body biographies last week Friday, I realized something

cognizant of the idea that we are all unique. I just find it so fascinating that as humans, it is natural
for us to look at someone that we don't even know and make assumptions; we are incredibly quick
to judge. But when we look at someone from the outside, all we see is an exterior view; we can see
hairstyles, clothes, height, weight, etc. However, when we look at someone, we can't see their

65. Derek Parrfit Personal Identity Summary
Derek Parfit suggests that we as individuals separate the notions of identity and survival. Parfit has
two beliefs that are most commonly thought to be important to the earliest discussions of personal
identity. His first belief is that all questions about personal identity must have an answer. The second
belief is that there are matters most important to us, having to do with survival, memory, and
responsibility, which cannot be decided unless the question of personal identity is answered (Parfit).
In order to be able to decide if I am at fault for a future deed, I need to be able to answer if I am the
same person. Parfit thinks that that these ideas are wrong. He applies a series of genius thought
examinations that deal with fission and fusion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is rather odd but he almost uses mathematical investigations in his studies. In certain scenarios, he
seems to be using examples that are inspired by science fiction or shows such as Star Trek. He uses
anything that he can to explore our feelings about identity (Blakemore). Parfit believes that since
there is no actual description of personal identity, people truly do not exist apart from their
segments. In his eyes, reality can be viewed as impersonally. Everyone could know all the facts
about an individual's existence yet not be able to say whether the person has survived. In his
conclusion of his essay Personal Identity, Parfit states that the human race is wrong when
assuming that personal identity is what matters in survival. Instead, he offers that psychological
relatedness and continuity are what really matters. According to him, people are nothing more than
brain and bodies. However, identity should not and cannot be reduced to either. Identity isn't as
certain as we sometimes make it out to be. Sometimes people suppose so because they are
uneducated. Also, such certainty can arise strictly from the way we talk. The way individuals talk
can lead to people developing twisted concepts of personal identity. It is weird to think but people

69. Graduation By Maya Angelou Analysis
Identity is not present from birth nor can be received like a gift wrapped in parchment and shiny
ribbons. Each person has created their own peremptory identity, and each day their identity grows
with little bits artfully pulled together. As a mother bird collects sticks and leaves for her nest, a
person brings together new bits and pieces to be added to their identity. Indeed, identity is not
tangible yet is exhibited by what that person wears, what music they listen to, or how they wear their
hair. Although, race and social status contribute to a person's uniqueness; noticeably, identity is
created through personal experiences and knowledge.

71. Flaws Of Utilitarianism
English philosopher and social critic Jeremy Bentham argues that happiness and pleasure is what
should be aimed for in life based off his theory of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is defined as the
belief that actions are right if it promotes happiness or pleasure. Identifying an action as wrong or
right depends on the amount of happiness or unhappiness an individual expresses from the action
that takes place.
To understand this theory, let us look at an example otherwise known as the Trolley Problem. The
Trolley Problem is a concerning situation where a loose trolley is flying through a singular straight
track until reaching a fork. In total there are six people tied to the railway tracks. There's one person
on one side and five people on the other. There is lever that can ... Show more content on

Utilitarianism is primarily nonpartisan which at first seems like a utopian mindset in comparison to
the world today, but at deeper thought it gets increasingly more disturbing. Like the example stated
earlier, it would be terrible to have to choose between your mother or a stranger in a dire situation.
However, emotional connection has no meaning in this ideology. The theory also has a flaw with
outcomes always justifying the means. This means that it doesn't matter how one achieves happiness
or pleasure, as long as it's the final outcome. For example, the Black Plague was a terrible epidemic
to have crossed the nation, but the outcomes, such as the decrease in overpopulation and the
advancements in medicine, made it seem like it was what needed because of the positive results.
Lastly, this theory has a knack for lacking in rights meaning if the majority does not care for a
minority and wants to kick them out of a certain location, Utilitarianism will defend the majority
since it will have the highest amount of happiness or pleasure. Though Utilitarianism has many
controversial factors, it also has respectable points as

Descartes proved in earlier Meditations that he himself exists because he is able to think and reason.
His thought and his own mental idea of himself acts as the only proof of his existence that cannot be
doubted. Descartes has in himself the idea of God and says that something, including that idea, can't
come from nothing. So that idea must have come from somewhere. He purposes that he cannot be
the cause of the idea that God exists because he is finite and God is not. God is infinite. Descartes
knows that
God put this idea in him because he himself cannot think of it. He cannot come up with something
that's more than he can conceive of, and if he is a finite being, he cannot conceive of a being that is

It is like you wouldn't know that white lacks color if you did not already know that there were
colors. You would not walk around seeing all white and wonder Where's the blue? unless a greater
being put the idea of blue in you. Here is another objection to his argument that Descartes
considers:
Perhaps I am something greater than I myself understand. Perhaps all these perfections that I am
attributing to God are somehow in me potentially, although they do not yet assert themselves and are
not yet actualized. For I now observe that my knowledge is gradually being increased, and I see
nothing standing in the way of its being increased more and more to infinity. Moreover, I see no
reason why, with my knowledge thus increased, I could not acquire all the remaining perfections of
God. And, finally, if the potential for these perfections is in me already, I see no reason why this
potential would not suffice to produce the idea of these perfections. (77)
In other words, maybe Descartes could think up the idea of infinity, because he is getting more and
more perfect, moving in that direction, and that enables him to imagine perfection. If Descartes was
practicing running and he was running shorter miles everyday: 7 minute mile, 6 minute mile, 5

79. Analysis Of Rene Descartes ' Theory Of God Essay
For generations in time, the approximative belief of God in conceptual value has been imbued in the
heart of the human race as a core valve in man's history. From antiquity to contemporary
modernism, there has always been a diversified integration composed of believers and non–
believers of God. The assemblage of those who have pledged their allegiance to God foster a like–
minded relation to one religious group or another. On the other hand, rationalist – freethinkers as I
would like to call them, postulate the perception of God to be inexplicable and therefore attempt to
pursue the answers by means of scientific methods. In proportional relation to our modern day life
with the development of technology and advancement of sciences, we still have not found the
correlative response to the question does God exist?. Amidst the range of philosophers and
scholars who have attempted to answer this question, we shall examine René Descartes' approach on
the concept of God.
Having a firm conviction to catholicism, Descartes, unprovided with doubt, held strong regards to
the existence of God. He makes the aforementioned clear in the introduction of Meditations on
First Philosophy. Descartes addresses that we must hold to regard strong convictions of our faith in
God and his existence thereof, because it is so instructed in the Holy Writings, and, conversely, that
