Vietnamese Migration To Australia Essay
Vietnamese Migration to Australia
Introduction
Vietnamese migration to Australia has had a large impact on Australia. There is a rich history on
Vietnamese migration to Australia. Prior to 1975, the numbers of Vietnamese migrants to Australia
and Victoria were low. These numbers were low but included many tertiary students, orphans from
the Vietnam War that was on during that time, and wives of Australian servicemen. Today, 48 years
after 1970, the Vietnamese people form the sixth largest migrant group in Australia. The majority of
people with a Vietnamese heratige have settled in or around NSW or VIC.
Vietnam war
Before the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970, there were only about 700 Vietnamese people
living in Australia.
The 137,000 Vietnamese asylum seekers who arrived in Australia after the end of the Vietnam War
in 1975 were the first he arrivals to come after the White Australia Policy ended Some came as boat
people, while others were from refugee camps in Southeast Asian countries. After the 1980s, family
reunion became the Australian government s focus for Vietnamese people seeking to live in
Australia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the initial intake of refugees in the late 1970s, there was a second immigration peak in 1983
84, most likely a result of the 1982 agreement between the Australian and Vietnamese governments
(the Orderly Departure Program) which allowed relatives of Vietnamese Australians to leave
Vietnam and migrate to Australia. A third immigration peak in the late 1980s seems to have been
mainly due to Australia s family reunion scheme. Over 90,000 refugees were processed, and entered
Australia during this time. relevant

Egon Schiele
The result is illustrated in Seated Female Nude with Raised Right Arm (1910, 45x32cm), a
carefully finished piece submitted to Josef Hoffmann at the Wiener Werkstätte. Carefully
outlined in black crayon on tinted paper, watercolor has been used to decorate the figure in a
muted warm palette of orange, yellow green and ochre; the tiny wedge of cerulean blue above the
head adds a complementary coloraccent. The line shows a tendency to peak at points of tension
(the outline of the hip, the top edge of the left shoulder and forearm), a trick that makes the contour
static but not heavy. The effect is decorative, to suit the postcards and knicknacks turned out by the
workshop, but the figure also seems tense or vigilant, as if waiting for... Show more content on

These drawings increasingly minimize stylization and caricature, and go beyond mere sexual
confrontation; the figures become more substantial and sculptural; the line achieves a new
strength and complexity, and color is used to signal surface texture and contour. Schiele s
increasing success brought him a larger range of adult models and portrait commissions, and in
1915 he married, influences that stimulated a new sensitivity to the individuality of his subjects.
Crouching Male Nude (Self Portrait) (1917, 46x29cm), drawn just a year before Schiele s death,
reveals many of these developments. The sense that Schiele is playing a narcissistic fantasy
character is gone; his life as an individual matters more. As in nearly all his drawings, the figure
is isolated against the bare page, stripped of context or props. The left arm seems to put a
hammerlock on the negative space, some invisible adversary that has chewed off both hands.
(Oddly, Schiele seems to have greatly disliked showing hands and feet: they are usually hidden or
omitted, and when they appear are harshly drawn.) A coil of gray extrudes from under the
grotesquely dislocated hips, drawn as if a rumpled sheet, but alluding to excrement or evisceration.
Yet these bizarre aspects of the drawing lend the figure a taut energy, alertness and resilience. The
pose, and the treatment of line, texture and color, closely resemble

Les Nuits D Ete By Hector Berlioz
Amy Shuford 5 April 2011 Music History II Research Paper Les Nuits d Ete Dr. Christina Reitz An
Analysis of Hector Berlioz s Les Nuits d Ete Born in 1803, in the village of La CГґte Saint
AndrГ©, France, Hector Berlioz produced some of the most invigorating and exciting music of the
Romantic period (Holoman, 1, 6). Romanticism primarily focused on subjectivism, therefore people
were concentrating more on their emotions and spirituality and less on logical explanations for the
problems of humanity. Those of the Romantic period valued nature and depended upon the
creativity of artists in order to gain a deeper and different outlook on the world, one that was not
strictly rational. Of all the Romantic art forms, music, especially... Show more content on

The tonal tension portrays the anger and confusion that the character is experiencing. During the
beginning of the movement, the vocal line is given much freedom for expression because the
accompaniment is mainly comprised of block chords entering on each beat. As the emotions of the
character intensify, the energy of accompaniment is also enhanced by repeating chords by use of
compound eighth notes. The emotion of the vocalist and orchestra continues to increase because
the vocalist makes their way to their high/head register to sustain notes to portray their anguish
while the orchestra is playing arpeggiated chords set rhythmically to thirty second notes. The
movement ends with the vocalist sustaining and the orchestra arpeggiating the dominant (V) chord
to leave the listener with a sense of unsettlement and discomfort (Berlioz, Les Nuits d Ete). L
Absence (Absence) is the fourth movement and is very contrasting to Sur les Lagunes by means of
emotion and tonality. The character singing is in a stage of grief when one may deny the
occurrence of the death. The singer repeatedly pleads Reviens, reviens ma bien aimee, which
literally translates to Return, return my beloved. Though the text is saddening, Berlioz set the song
in the key of F# major which provides a bright and elevating sound. The accompaniment is minimal
in this movement because it

Essay about Reconstruction in the Post-Civil War Era
After the Civil War, the South lay in ruins. Streets were lined with the lifeless bodies of
Confederate soldiers whilst the buildings smoldered right down to their foundations. In an effort
to restore the South to its former charm, the U.S. government plunged the country into what is
now called the Reconstruction Era. President Lincoln s approach towards reconstruction, known
as the 10% Plan, was rivaled by the collaborative effort of Henry Davis and Benjamin Wade;
known as the Wade Davis Bill. Both plans never made it into effect, but they set a precedent for
more rivalries to come. President Johnson s election did not serve any justice towards the effort of
Reconstruction. He was a Southern Sympathizer who did all in his power to... Show more content

Feeding into the obvious prejudice of African Americans through President Johnson, the southern
state legislatures implemented the Black Codes. These restrictions severely limited the freedoms of
African Americans. In retaliation, Congress passed the Civil Acts Rights Act which stated that all
people born in the U.S. are citizens; and this included African Americans. Johnson initially vetoed
this bill, but Congress overrode it. This is just one example of Johnson s many disagreements with
Congress. At that time, Congress also passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which
abolished slavery, made everyone equal under the law, and gave African Americans the right to
vote; which angered southern farmers and former slave owners. President Andrew Johnson was
angered at the feat of Congress, so he decided to fire his Secretary of War, Edward Stanton. This
went against the Tenure of Office Act, thus giving the Senate grounds for impeachment. Although
acquitted, Johnson spent the rest of his term relatively mild mannered, rather than vetoing any and
every bill passed by Congress. Angered at the fact that African Americans now had the right to vote,
southern white farmers banded together to create the Ku Klux Klan. Their sole mission was to
create fear in the lives of many African Americans as well as stop them from expressing their
newly acquired rights. The Ku Klux Klan became somewhat of a form of domestic terrorism. In

Social Darwinism Vs Unfit Essay
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding presents the theory of Social Darwinism where the
physically fit dominates over the unfit. Social Darwinism describes the physical strengths of a
person which allows them to receive power even with illogical ideas or reasoning. In this society,
appearance seems to affect a person s statue, although with Social Darwinism, an individual is
judged entirely by his/her physical characteristics. The individuals born with exceptional athletic
abilities are seen as fit, while the unfit are those who are incapable of heavy physical activities.
The display of the physically fit people acquiring a vast advantage over the unfit is explained in
the Social Darwinism article and the novel Lord of the Flies. The physical... Show more content on

The fit sees no reason to assist those who are vulnerable because that would only promote a gain
of the undesired reproduction. All the resources should go to the fittest and strongest in life to
enable those individuals to flourish beautifully. As mentioned in the article, the society favors
the fittest of all walks in life . The little ones were left alone on the island to feed themselves
because they were considered to be a burden to the tribe since they don t have the skills to fend
for themselves. The older boys did not feel the responsibilities of nurturing the little ones
unconsciously. This shows that the influence of Social Darwinism is inveterate. Those who are
in dreadful situations often have no intention of being there. However, Social Darwinism
implies those have the intention of being there, hence the naturalistic fallacy described by the
article. Take the little boys on the island for example, they did not intend to be incapable of
taking care of themselves because of two reasons. Firstly they were collateral damage of the war.
Secondly, the children are not at fault for their incapability of taking care of themselves since they
are children. The vast idea of the weak not deserving aid creates an unfair society. This idea favors
only the already fit which will generate a world filled with discrimination and

Origin And Nature Of Anthrax
Origin and nature The earliest appearance of Anthrax occurred around 700 BC mostly affecting
cattle, sheep, horses, and oxen. The people of Egypt and Mesopotamia at the time called it the 5th
plague and the name Anthrax derives from the word coal, similar to the black skin leisures it
produces. The first clinical cases of Anthraxwere described around 1752 and 1769 by Maret and
Fournier respectively (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Scientist Robert Kochwas
the first to study Bacillusanthracis in a clinical setting, in 1877 he developed the first microbial
etiology. It was in the 1800 s that Anthrax was titled the woolsorters disease due to its relation
with animal hair or wool from sheep (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Bacillus
anthracis is an aerobic, spore forming, nonmotile, monomorphic bacteria with little to no genetic
diversity. Anthrax spores are able to lay dormant for long periods of time allowing it to survive
more than 40 years in the soil, 80 years in a vial, and 200 years in bones (Friedlander, 336).
Bacillus anthracis is therefore known as a risk group 3 organism (Agren et al., 2014). This is part
of what makes Anthrax such a risk, but more commonly Anthrax contamination in the soil only
lasts for a few months and rarely for more than a few years when microbial competition exists in
that soil (Friedlander, 336). It was without this information that traders, shipped infected sheep,
cattle and other animals around

sequences of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during
certain stages of sleep. Most occurring during rapid eye movement or REM when brain activity is

subconscious. Sigmund Freud, a scientist in the early 1900s performed extensive studies on dreams,

Summary Of In The Belly Of The Beast
On Paul Solotaroff s In the Belly of the Beast : A Not So Subtle Argument Against Factory
Farming The dawn of civilization began with mankind mastering a constant source of food.
From humble grains to the mighty cow, raising and harvesting food has been an unchanged
profession for millennia. Ingrained into the fabric of society to the point of the biblical story of
Cain and Abel, where Abel, being a Shepard, offered one of his flock to God as a sacrifice which
was preferred over Cain s grain offering. From biblical times, the progression of technology for
herding and rearing animals had not changed up until the industrial revolution. The industrial
revolution led to new mechanized ways of raising animals but, also losing touch with the natural
way of things. This mechanized way of raising animals is talked about by Paul Solotaroff in his
article, In the Belly of The Beast on how cruel and brutal the conditions are for the animals being
raised today in factoryfarms and how people should act against them. Solotaroff opens the article
with Sarah which isn t her real name and is made very clear that its important her real name isn t
known. Sarah then describes the scene of the farm she works on in a vivid sense, such as
the sensory assault of 10,000 pigs in close quarters: the stench of their shit, piled three feet high in
the slanted trenches below; the blood on sows snouts cut by cages so tight they can t turn around

Suicide In Teen Suicide
Suicide continues to be one of the main causes of death in teens throughout America. Statistically,
suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470
people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide
Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of
parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide
. On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a
suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution;
but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem
and nothing is worth taking your own life over.
In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his
own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his
father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever
into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This
quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything
to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many
teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family.
Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can
be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from
depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive
outlook on life.
While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be
even more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as
constant lying may be a sign of suicidal person. When questioned by the Principal as to why he
was there, Paul stated, politely enough, that he wanted to come back to school. This was a lie, but
Paul was quite accustomed to lying; found it, indeed, indispensable for

It Better To Make The Spells And Potions Work Or Do The...
Listen up Harry Potter fans! Scientists from the University of Leicester have been doing some
research, trying to figure out whether or not the wizards in Harry potter need magic to make the
spells and potions work or do they have a scientific basis?
The first thing they put to test is Gillyweed if you do not recall Gillyweed is a Mediterranean plant
that Harry Potter used to help him win a challenge in The Goblet of Fire. If you ate the plant you
were able to grow gills so that you could breathe underwater and have webbed feet and hands.
The researchers decided to find out if the gills would have worked the way they were portrayed in
the movie. Scientists Rowan Reynolds and Chris Ringrose first started their experiment by
estimating that the gills that appear in the movie have a surface area of about 60cm2. They then
took account of how much oxygen there was in the Black lake where the tournament took place
and how much gas Harry would have needed to breathe underwater. ... Show more content on

Harry were to open his mouth to allow water into his throat and out through the gills, it may be

that he could extract sufficient oxygen for survival. therefore if the Boy who lived wanted to

Relationship Between China And South Asia
Introduction:
Since the mid 20th century an unlikely formidable alliance had slowly began to flourish in South
Asia. China and Pakistan s alliance began in the early 1960 s through the early 1970 s when
conflicts between India vs. China and Pakistan had intensified. The Sino Indian war that took place
in 1962 ended as fast as it began. Along with the war that had taken place between India and
Pakistan in 1965 and in 1971 when another indo Pakistani war erupted and East Pakistan claimed
independence and is known today as Bangladesh (Hagerty, 2002). In this comparison China and
Pakistan had identified their similar interests with their historical and geographical concerns in
maintaining India s power and influence within Southeast Asia (Federal China Security Affairs
Group [FCSAG], 2010). These are known as Geo Political interests. There are many definitions of
geopolitics but this one more specifically entails the competition over the control of territory and
extraction of resources (Jonatan, 2012) China and Pakistan have built a friendship that is, higher
than mountains, deeper than oceans, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel (Tharoor, 2015),
they are collaborating on military technologies and supporting one another s economic interests.
Although the contrasts of these two countries greatly outweigh this entente, with concerns over

about negative ones. And it works! When my parents divorced and everything seemed to me
terrible, especially my mom s new boyfriend, I told myself: My mother was unhappy last years of
her marriage, she gave to me and to my sister everything she had. She is the nearest and the
dearest person for us in the whole world. So, my mom deserves to be really happy. And my mother
s boyfriend became a new member of our family, he s great, I really loved him. I m happy to see

Deadly Deception Documentary Film
Is human experimentation appropriate? Should people be given the right to informed consent if
the research could result in possible harm? Is human experimentation in light of the Tuskegee
study justified? These are just some of the questions that arose during the presentation of the film
Deadly Deception. This film featured the government sponsored Tuskegee experiment and
documents this forty year study of untreated syphilis in the black males of Macon County,
Alabama. This review will examine the film Deadly Deception in light of the appropriateness of
human experimentation and the right for informed consent as well as the different ethical and
moral views that may arise as a response to what occurred. Deadly Deception is a documentary
about one of the most, if not the most controversial human experimentation studies conducted in
America. This film chronicles the Tuskegee experiment which began in 1932 and was carried out
within a forty year time span of consistent experimentation. This study s primary goal was to
observe the effects of untreated syphilis on the human body over the course of a year for the sole
purpose of eradicating the disease, but when it was discovered that a large proportion of the study s
population had syphilis, the objectives for the study changed. This study took place in Macon
County, Alabama with 600 black male participants, 400 of which were infected with syphilis while
the other 200 participants occupied the control (without syphilis). At the

Dallas Cowboys Research Paper
I decided to do my paper on the Dallas Cowboys because not only are they Americas team but
they are my team. The Dallas Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl rings and haven t one in 20 years but
still are one of the most hated or most discussed football organizations in America. Well the
history goes all the way back to 1960 the Dallas Cowboys were born with the help of Clint
Murchison Jr. as the owner, Tex Schramm as the General Manager, and the Iconic Tom Landry
as the head coach. But the team finished the 1960 season with a horrible 0 11 1 record. In 1961

Health Information Exchange And The Medical Record And...
Interoperability means the ability to share the medical record and exchange of data between
information systems, which helps to achieve quality care. What is health information exchange?
It is aimed to provide a complete view of patient s information for clinicians who have the
responsibility to make decisions for treatment for the better outcome. HIEs would enable the
sharing of record between doctors offices, hospitals and laboratories, and security levels would
be determined by the level of data needing to be exchanged. One thing is for real there is no
perfect world. HIEs are happening, it is up to the EHRs and administrators to figure out how best to
assist the process. We all should know the reason for HIEs is to improve patient outcome, design
new patient care and delivery system and decrease the cost of medical care. About 75 million
Americans suffer from multiple chronic conditions, which means they require multiple providers
for their care. HIEs is the key like these situations for proper diagnosis and there should be adequate
communications between the providers. They require communication or exchange of data for
coordination of care for this patient. In these instances, health care providers and patients frequently
lack pertinent and useful information where treatment decisions are made. In today s advanced
technology, EHRs offer the substantial part to capture and share health information. The vendors,

Colonial American Identity
In Britain s eyes, Colonial America was nothing but another piece of land that earned them money,
but as it began to be acknowledged by other powerful countries for its self sufficient lifestyle, it
shaped an identity, ultimately becoming the strong, independent nation, it is today. However, it was
anything but easy for America to form in the first place. From 1765 to 1783, the American
Revolutiontook place and was overall, the process used to overthrow the oppressive British and
purge them from America. Britain s establishment of harsh policies concerning many freedoms,
political ideologies, and economic rights obligated the colonists to fight for their independence. The
American Colonies thought that they were ready and able to create a society with the power of
unity, supported by democracy and economic prosperities. The American revolution was eventually
instigated by the identity of American colonists of which evolved through the formation of unity,
political, and economic influences.

VITA Reflective Essay
My experience from VITA was different from what I had expected. Initially, I did not know what
was expected from me. It seemed that everything was structured and we had to follow a myriad
amount of rules, but the first day of VITA proved everything wrong. Working with clients,
experiencing realistic situations, is what essentially taught me how to do a successful tax return.
One huge impact I learned instantly is how you communicate with your client. I had to strengthen
my communication skills because I needed to communicate with my clients in vocabulary that I
knew they would understand. Communicating with a fellow peer, who is knowledgeable about
taxes, is a different situation that of when you are speaking with a client. A client most likely
doesn t know the exact, in depth details about taxes, which can lead to complications and
confusion, so I had to adjust my lexicon to fit the clients needs and understanding. Also,
working with partners was great. It gave me an opportunity to work with others and solve
problems in a group. Sometimes, when one of us didn t know the answer, the other one would

The Poor Need Pro Bono Legal Services Essay
Over the years, the practice of law has been left to the regime of a group of people commonly
referred to as lawyers. Though the term may vary from place to place or jurisdiction, the same
has a general meaning to refer to those who have studied law. Further it is left to the jurisdiction s
discretion to determine how they are to grant one the status of being a lawyer either through
education, certification amongst other means that different jurisdictions apply to afford such a

this way, people s work is more efficient. Although the Internethad a lot of helpful and positive

has resulted in mobile phone dependence, video game addiction and internet violence.
Mobile phone dependence now is a common problem, people in every age level have his or her own

When growing an enterprise that you wish to compete on a global market, what needs to be

was made in 1989 when Mathew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, Tihni Kennedy,

depict the civil war and use clothes used in that time frame. Zwick also used actors who were
engaged into their job and indicated the time frame with scar marks on Trip. Not only did the
actors make the music entertaining, but the music brought the movie in. The music was able to

In the opening scene, people are playing baseball. Baseball, a sport, was invented during the time

view, he was able to catch the viewer s attention by showing baseball and telling some American s
that the movie was about the Civil War. One of the other things he was accurate about was the
clothes. On the confederate s side (South), the people had dirty clothes and there were some black
soldiers. The South did not have much people fighting in the army, so the people who had to come
in were the slaves from the southern plantations. While the south had dirty clothes, the union

The Success and Intentions of Galileo Essay
Galileo has been depicted variously as a cynical opportunist, patient genius or lucky engineer, and
dies a coward or a modern Socrates. I agree that he is a patient genius, and lucky engineer, but I do
not agree that he is a cynical opportunist, coward or a modern Socrates.
Galileo was a mathematician and a natural philosopher, who converted Copernicanism, which states
that the earth revolved around the sun, into philosophy and the world s true nature. By introducing
new knowledge and using science to prove existing theories, he had caused a revolution by
changing how people perceive the world during the last few hundred years and to doubt the
authority of the Church, so as to spur on more people to confront the Church s interpretations ...

So, although he had his own thinking and ideas, he waited fir the right opportunity to voice them
out to minimize conflicts with the church, thus he was a patient genius.
He was a lucky engineer. Through his hard work, he achieved great results from observing the stars,
and applied math, scientific knowledge, and his own thinking in coming up with proofs that the
universe was heliocentric and other theories such as Jupiter had moons orbiting it too, defying the
old science that the Church was insisting on that the Earth was the center of the universe. He was
also lucky because his hard work had paid off when he gained fame and prestige from publishing
his book. If he had not done so, he might not have the motivation and opportunities to pursue the
truth in knowledge later on and might not have caused a revolution to occur. Many coincidences
occurred, like him getting famous, Baberini becoming the Pope, that allowed him to become what
he is today. Thus, he was a lucky engineer.
Like Socrates, he opposed the main ruler of the time, in Socrates case it was Athens, and in
Galileo s case, it was the Church. Socrates was found guilty of impiety sentenced to forced suicide,
but he actually wished for his death. He had the opportunity to run away, but he did not, as he
believed that a true philosopher do not fear death, and he wanted to uphold Athens law. Galileo was

The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase
The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore
the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can
have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their
function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s
EnzymeNotes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions
without changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming
consumed or permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier
(Enzymes). Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical
reactions that take place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In
order to generate chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific
reactant that an enzyme acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site
on the enzyme, which is a groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate
flawlessly fits. Active sites are typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the
polypeptide chains that are drawn together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes).
Each type of enzyme can only bind with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate
and the active site of the enzyme align

The Role Of Technology In The Modern American Household
Over the past 30 years, technology has made great strides towards becoming a fundamental part of
our everyday lives; and for millions of parents and their children, it already is. The modern
American household is catered towards the technologically inclined computers, tablets, gaming
systems, and smart TVs have become commonplace in many homes. Not only do they serve their
practical purpose, but devices such as these also offer many opportunites for children and toddlers
to learn, play, and experience things they d previously been unable to. Many might challenge ideas
such as this without outdated statistics or conservative mindsets, but the truth of the matter is, the
technological era has arrived; and our children need to learn how to live in it.
With the growing population of middle class households that have access to internet and cable,
educational programming has seen a burst in activity and popularity. Families that were otherwise
unable to access educational TV and games before are now able to do so, and their children have

Gender Aspects Of Gender Roles
Gender roles are social and behavioral norms that are considered generally appropriate for a man
or a woman. America, as some describe it, is the land of great and equal opportunities for all, but
the fact is that women are somewhat degraded and reduced to stereotypical gender roles such as
being seen as only house wives instead of working, active women. Genderroles, he strong views of
how a man and a womanare supposed to act, work, and live all still exist in our day to day lives.
They are deeply embedded to most cultures. In some cultures it is so strong that, in certain
circumstances, a man could control a woman s life because of the deep beliefs in the pre
modern gender roles. Women are typically degraded in many places across the world. We see a
lot of that in both The Namesake and The Only Daughter. In The Namesake, Ashima was very
lucky. She once thought to herself about how other the Bengali wives do not have the amount
of liberty she has. Ashoke gave Ashima the liberty to pretty much do what she wanted as long as
she fulfilled her role as his Bengali wife. Ashima is portrayed as a woman who follows and
respects Bengali s rules and culture, by taking care of her children and husband. Even though
Ashoke gives her a lot of liberty, she still follows Bengali gender roles. In Bengali culture, there
is a lot of male superiority. The wives have to do everything their husbands tell them to. In Indian
tradition, they have arranged marriages. The woman does not even get to pick who she wants to
boss her around for the rest of her life. Ashoke and Ashima s marriagewas arranged like most
Bengali Indian marriages. Ashoke then had to move back to the US to finish his education and
pursue his career. Since Ashima was now a married Bengali woman she had to drop everything and
move to the United States with him. In Calcutta, Ashima was working toward a college degree. She
did not get to finish her degree due to getting married and having to move to the United States so
Ashoke could finish his degree. In The Only Daughter, the daughter was not paid attention to. Her
father only ever paid attention to the brothers. The daughter tried to impress her father to get his

The Salary For A Dentist
Similarly, the salary for a dentist differs from one dentist to another. Dentists who own their own
practices can expect to make anywhere from $150,000 a year to possibly even $164,000 or
higher over time (Dentists: Salary). Over time pay for dentists in expected to go up since it has
been on the rise for the past decade or longer. Dentists in their first year, naturally, will not make
the same amount of money as an experienced practicing dentist will (Dentists: Salary). Notably,
dentists make much more than many other health care professionals, including pharmacists,
registered nurses, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. According to statistics, dentists tend to
do better and make more money in certain cities across the United States (Dentists: Salary).
Some of these cities include Holland, Michigan, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Nashua, New
Hampshire, Rochester, New Hampshire, and Valdosta, Georgia. In all of these cities, dentists
make over $250,000 a year (Dentists: Salary). With all of the work required of a dentist and with
all of the patients that see a dentist, it is impossible for a dentist to run an office alone. One group
of people that are essential to a dentist and to a dental office are dental hygienists. Dental hygienists

Literature Review
The essential problem presented in this research deals with instructors taking the role of online
educators without proper support and application of research that clearly describes an effective
process that constitutes achievements and goals. Thus, several online teaching and learning
dimensions are presented to explain many successes and barriers that are often experienced today in
online instruction.
When considering course design, novice online instructors may consider the use of discussion
boards as a technique to promote critical thinking. Asynchronous online discussions are an
important communication tool for distance education (Bai, 2009). Many researchers agree that
asynchronous discussions encourage reflective learning, in depth thinking and meaningful
processing of information (Bai, 2009; Black, 2005; Dixson, Kuhlhorst Reiff, 2006; Gilbert
Dabbagh, 2005; Hara, Bonk Angeli, 2000). However, the actual quality of these discussions has
become a major concern regarding students cognitive engagement (Bai, 2009).
To address this concern, Bai (2009) conducted a study in which students participate in online

Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) people in The Hope Speech at San Francisco City Hall
on Gay Freedom Day in 1978, Harvey Milk uses the I You/Us Them relationships as defined by
Martin Buber, pathos appeals, and shared experiences to establish an emotional bond with the
LGBTQ community. This relationship of comradery and mentorship, deeply rooted in shared
values, best prepared the crowd to absorb his message of activism and hope. Harvey Milk,
though he had known since high school that he was gay (Biography), was initially outwardly
ambivalent to legislation passed against the LGBTQ community. This all changed after he
befriended a group of gay radicals in his mid forties. They propelled him into the politically
charged world of activism, in which he developed his voice, and stood out as a leader in the
LGBTQ community. Milk stood on the steps of the San Francisco s City Hall to celebrate Gay
Freedom, but also to

Analysis Of The Poem A Little Tooth By Thomas Lux
Enjambment in Thomas Lux s Poem, A Little Tooth. Enjambment refers to the continuation of a
clause or a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, stanza, or couplet. The purpose of
enjambment in poetry is to enable an idea to progress beyond the limitations of a single line,
mostly to emphasize a particular idea within the lines themselves. Also, poets adopt this style to
surprise a reader, by introducing an idea in the first line, and changing it in the next. This allows
a poet to draw the reader from one line to the next and create a fast pace or rhythm for a poem. In
the poem, A Little Tooth , the poet typically wanted to demonstrates the flow of an idea beyond the
limitation of a single line. The poet is very skilled in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a way to elicit sympathy from the audience, the poet employs imagery and descriptive phrases
to pass the message. This is exemplified in the lines, ... I understood / by the age of twelve what
it meant to be unwanted, exiled, (2000, pp. 679 680) ... . Here, the poet uses the image of a
twelve year old child who is alone and miserable to highlight the plight immigrants. The imagery
is meant for the readers to show some sympathy towards immigrants. As a reader, this descriptive
phrase elicits sympathy because the kid is depicted as miserable and unwanted. Another form of
image in the poem is when the narrator says, ... you move from one country to another where
nobody / wants you, nobody knows you, and I sat in front of the TV, (SuГЎrez, 2000, pp. 679
680). As a reader, I picture myself homeless, wandering from one place to another seeking refuge.
This line allows the mind to experience a picture of lonely child moving from one place to another,
probably dirty, hungry,

Physicalism In Jackson s Knowledge Argument
I assert that Jackson successfully argues against physicalism, the entire world is completely
physical, through his Knowledge Argument which declares that there is knowledge about the
mind and consciousness that you cannot understand from only the physical properties and facts
of the world. In Jackson s example in the Knowledge Argument, Mary learns everything there is
to know about all the physical properties involved in color, color perception and what happens in
a brain when a person witnesses anything that is red. She has learned all this information from
only looking at shades of black, white and grey and has never witnessed red. The question the
Knowledge Argument is trying to ask is whether Mary truly has all the knowledge on color vision
and the clear answer is no because Mary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This premise relies on the idea that all the knowledge the Mary gained through the experiment is
only factual knowledge about a certain field of study. This is the weak link in the Knowledge
Argument because someone can argue that some knowledge is not knowledge of facts which is
what Mary is missing from the experiment. People can argue that Mary is missing procedural
knowledge with is the knowledge that would make her able to do something like being able to
recognize colors. If Mary is shown the color red, how would she know that its the color red if
she was never taught how to recognize colors. Another example is if someone showed Mary a
different color but told her it was red, how would Mary be able to tell the difference or know that
this person is lying. The problem with premise one in the Knowledge Argument is that Mary may
know all the factual information behind color vision but that doesn t guarantee that she will have
the ability to tell the difference between colors if they are shown to

The Way Of Self Regulation
The way self regulation occurs will change over time based off of what culture the child lives in.
For instance, crying is an acceptable form of self regulation for a baby, but not for a teenager so
the teenager must find another way to self regulate when a challenge pops up (neurons to
neighborhoods). A part of self regulation (which falls under the emotional part of self regulation)
that is very important for infants to develop is effortful control, or how well the infantcan prevent
impulses, cope with negative emotions, and behave in a way that is socially acceptable (Berk). It
also predicts conscience, empathy, guilt, and low aggression, and gives children the ability to do
something else when they are affected negatively so they aren t overwhelmed. Low effortful control
is a consistent predictor of externalizing problems (temperament and personality, Rothbart). Infants
show that they are beginning to obtain emotional self regulation around 12 18 months (Berk). With
this evidence it is very obvious that self regulation is an important part of development. If a child
isn t able to learn how to self regulate, he/she would not be able to learn important motor abilities, or
have the capacity to deal properly with emotions. The best way children learn how to self regulate
is by watching, interacting, and learning from others. This, and other things, are what determine
that relationships with others are essential for healthy development. Early relationships are different

Advantages Of Machine Molding
d) Machine molding In bench, floor and pit molding, the different molding operations are carried
out manually by the molder, whereas in machine molding, various molding operations like sand
ramming, rolling the mold over, withdrawing the pattern etc. are done by machines. Machine
molding have several advantages over bench, floor and pit molding such as : Performing the same
operations faster and more efficiently in a methodical precise manner. Producing identical and
consistent castings. Producing castings of better quality at lower costs. Molding machines are
preferred for mass production of the castings whereas hand molding (bench, pit and floor) is used
for limited production. Machine molding is not a completely automated process. Although many

The steps taken for casting in a squeeze machine are : In squeeze machine, the mould box with
pattern and sand in it is placed on a fixed table. A flat plate or a rubber diaphragm is brought in
contact with the upper surface of the loose sand and pressure is applied by a pneumatically
operated piston. The squeezing action of the plate causes the sand particles to get packed tightly
above and around the pattern. Squeezing is continued until the mould attains the desired density.
In some machines, the squeeze plate may be stationary with the mould box moving upward. The
density and hardness of the rammed sand at the bottom of the mould box is less when compared
to its top portions and this can be considered as a disadvantage. Squeezer machines press the sand
in the flask between the machine table and overhead plate. Greatest mold density is obtained at the
side of the mold from which the pressure is applied. Because it is impossible to obtain uniform
mold density by this method, squeezing machines are limited to molds only a few inches in

The Efficacy Of The Myers Briggs Type Indicator
Term Paper: An Evaluation of the Reliability of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator
Killeen McClowry
The University of Texas at Dallas
BIS3320 The Nature of Intellectual Inquiry
An Evaluation of the Reliability of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an evaluative personality tool that is widely used
throughout the world today. It is important for a tool that is popularly utilized in a variety of
fields and at numerous professional institutions worldwide to be a credible one. So, is the MBTI
really the valid reliable personality inventory instrument it claims to be? Evaluating this tool will
show that empirically sound evidence does not exist to support the MBTI as an accurate, reliable,
or valid instrument for profiling one s personality type.
The MBTI questionnaire was created by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs
Myers. Their collaborative work to develop this measurement of personality was inspired by to the
writings/work of Carl Jung (more specifically his book entitled Psychological Type). This mother
and daughter s shared fascination and interest in type theory led them to create the MBTI in the
early 1940s as a test to be used for personnel selection. Myers believed that different occupations
favored different personality orientations, and that Jung s theory provided a theoretical link
between personality and job performance (Pittenger, 1993). It is important to note that it was Myers
belief that

Sandwich Bikes
In the world of home exercise equipment, few pieces have been around as long as the exercise
bike. Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of
years, being used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use.
There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people
think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle,
pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a
wider seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined
position. Both bikes have good and bad points as we shall see.
The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike
ride than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a
neutral position. Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an
upright can irritate the condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get
on and off of because of a higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or
overweight people. An upright takes up less room than a recumbent. You may want to keep this in
mind if your exercise area is on the small side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Blanche Dubois Delusions Essay
Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to cope with which is why people
tell themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood people tell themselves to rationalize
the lifestyle they are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen
investigate how life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life, when they are used
to cope with the stressors of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former
southern belle forced to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being
evicted from Belle Reve, her family home. To cope with these traumatic events, Blanche decided to
recreate her character. To do so, she lied to the people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb in Stella s house because of the fear it would expose her
too blatantly to the very people from whom she tried to hide (Williams 60). Williams used the
word naked , instead of another synonym, to describe the vulnerable and delicate position
Blanche would be in if her lies are disclosed. She believed that if she hid herself physically, her
dark, internal self would thus be hidden. No one especially Stella, Stanley, and Mitch, the people
closest to her would be able to see through the barrier of lies she created to cope with the death of
her husband and her past which devastated her. She was forced to face her biggest fear when he
(Mitch) [turned] on the light and [stared] at her. She [cried] out and [covered] her face , as to
mourn the death of her facade (Williams 145). As soon as Mitch turned on the light, Blanche
knew every part of her being, including her appearance and character, were utterly exposed to a
man whom she desired to appear to as wholesome. It was as if she was in pain when the light hit
her which was symbolic of how painful it would be if she came to terms with the truth. Blanche,
then, [covered] her face to keep herself from total indecency in front of Mitch and keep the most
vulnerable, valuable part of herself hidden and, therefore, wholesome. Williams used short, blunt
sentences to make a statement and emphasize her fear. At the end of the

Stereotypes Of Today s Meeting

the club, it is my job to make sure all board members are pushing their own weight.
I understand you may not able to attend all the meetings, but you need to get into the habit of
informing another board member of your absence. It makes it difficult on myself as well as the
other board members when several of you do not show. Also, please only miss meetingsif you
absolutely have to. I understand having to attend class or work but deciding you do not want to
show up because you just do not feel like it is disrespectful and inappropriate in your position.

New Media Art With Its Intrinsic Characteristics
Crowdsourced Documentation New media art with its intrinsic characteristics (instability and
variability)[1] poses complex challenges in documentation, this observation is not new, and
initiatives such as DOCAM[2] and Variable Media Network[3] have provided methods and tools to
properly document media artworks. Nevertheless, the social phenomena of crowdsourcing and
crowdfunding, presents new challenges for established documentation methods and standards. This
essay aims to address this subject by referencing recent exhibition and art practice frequently
involve public participation and interaction, taking an in depth look at current theoretical, practical,
and institutional documentation model, examining crowdsourced documentation as a valid source
created by various contributors, can be incorporated as part of formal documentation. September
16, 2016, Take me (I?m Yours)[4] took place at the Jewish Museum in New York, as its first ever
exhibition made possible by the digital crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter. With a total
$31,018 pledged, 340 backers helped forty two international and intergenerational artists create
400,000+ artworks to be given away during this unconventional exhibition, visitors are encouraged
to participate, touch, and even take artworks away with them (Cascone, 2016). Museums turn to

  • 2. Vietnamese Migration To Australia Essay Vietnamese Migration to Australia Introduction Vietnamese migration to Australia has had a large impact on Australia. There is a rich history on Vietnamese migration to Australia. Prior to 1975, the numbers of Vietnamese migrants to Australia and Victoria were low. These numbers were low but included many tertiary students, orphans from the Vietnam War that was on during that time, and wives of Australian servicemen. Today, 48 years after 1970, the Vietnamese people form the sixth largest migrant group in Australia. The majority of people with a Vietnamese heratige have settled in or around NSW or VIC. Vietnam war Before the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970, there were only about 700 Vietnamese people living in Australia. The 137,000 Vietnamese asylum seekers who arrived in Australia after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975 were the first he arrivals to come after the White Australia Policy ended Some came as boat people, while others were from refugee camps in Southeast Asian countries. After the 1980s, family reunion became the Australian government s focus for Vietnamese people seeking to live in Australia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the initial intake of refugees in the late 1970s, there was a second immigration peak in 1983 84, most likely a result of the 1982 agreement between the Australian and Vietnamese governments (the Orderly Departure Program) which allowed relatives of Vietnamese Australians to leave Vietnam and migrate to Australia. A third immigration peak in the late 1980s seems to have been mainly due to Australia s family reunion scheme. Over 90,000 refugees were processed, and entered Australia during this time. relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Egon Schiele The result is illustrated in Seated Female Nude with Raised Right Arm (1910, 45x32cm), a carefully finished piece submitted to Josef Hoffmann at the Wiener WerkstГ¤tte. Carefully outlined in black crayon on tinted paper, watercolor has been used to decorate the figure in a muted warm palette of orange, yellow green and ochre; the tiny wedge of cerulean blue above the head adds a complementary coloraccent. The line shows a tendency to peak at points of tension (the outline of the hip, the top edge of the left shoulder and forearm), a trick that makes the contour static but not heavy. The effect is decorative, to suit the postcards and knicknacks turned out by the workshop, but the figure also seems tense or vigilant, as if waiting for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These drawings increasingly minimize stylization and caricature, and go beyond mere sexual confrontation; the figures become more substantial and sculptural; the line achieves a new strength and complexity, and color is used to signal surface texture and contour. Schiele s increasing success brought him a larger range of adult models and portrait commissions, and in 1915 he married, influences that stimulated a new sensitivity to the individuality of his subjects. Crouching Male Nude (Self Portrait) (1917, 46x29cm), drawn just a year before Schiele s death, reveals many of these developments. The sense that Schiele is playing a narcissistic fantasy character is gone; his life as an individual matters more. As in nearly all his drawings, the figure is isolated against the bare page, stripped of context or props. The left arm seems to put a hammerlock on the negative space, some invisible adversary that has chewed off both hands. (Oddly, Schiele seems to have greatly disliked showing hands and feet: they are usually hidden or omitted, and when they appear are harshly drawn.) A coil of gray extrudes from under the grotesquely dislocated hips, drawn as if a rumpled sheet, but alluding to excrement or evisceration. Yet these bizarre aspects of the drawing lend the figure a taut energy, alertness and resilience. The pose, and the treatment of line, texture and color, closely resemble ... • 4. Les Nuits D Ete By Hector Berlioz Amy Shuford 5 April 2011 Music History II Research Paper Les Nuits d Ete Dr. Christina Reitz An Analysis of Hector Berlioz s Les Nuits d Ete Born in 1803, in the village of La CГґte Saint AndrГ©, France, Hector Berlioz produced some of the most invigorating and exciting music of the Romantic period (Holoman, 1, 6). Romanticism primarily focused on subjectivism, therefore people were concentrating more on their emotions and spirituality and less on logical explanations for the problems of humanity. Those of the Romantic period valued nature and depended upon the creativity of artists in order to gain a deeper and different outlook on the world, one that was not strictly rational. Of all the Romantic art forms, music, especially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tonal tension portrays the anger and confusion that the character is experiencing. During the beginning of the movement, the vocal line is given much freedom for expression because the accompaniment is mainly comprised of block chords entering on each beat. As the emotions of the character intensify, the energy of accompaniment is also enhanced by repeating chords by use of compound eighth notes. The emotion of the vocalist and orchestra continues to increase because the vocalist makes their way to their high/head register to sustain notes to portray their anguish while the orchestra is playing arpeggiated chords set rhythmically to thirty second notes. The movement ends with the vocalist sustaining and the orchestra arpeggiating the dominant (V) chord to leave the listener with a sense of unsettlement and discomfort (Berlioz, Les Nuits d Ete). L Absence (Absence) is the fourth movement and is very contrasting to Sur les Lagunes by means of emotion and tonality. The character singing is in a stage of grief when one may deny the occurrence of the death. The singer repeatedly pleads Reviens, reviens ma bien aimee, which literally translates to Return, return my beloved. Though the text is saddening, Berlioz set the song in the key of F# major which provides a bright and elevating sound. The accompaniment is minimal in this movement because it ... • 6. Essay about Reconstruction in the Post-Civil War Era After the Civil War, the South lay in ruins. Streets were lined with the lifeless bodies of Confederate soldiers whilst the buildings smoldered right down to their foundations. In an effort to restore the South to its former charm, the U.S. government plunged the country into what is now called the Reconstruction Era. President Lincoln s approach towards reconstruction, known as the 10% Plan, was rivaled by the collaborative effort of Henry Davis and Benjamin Wade; known as the Wade Davis Bill. Both plans never made it into effect, but they set a precedent for more rivalries to come. President Johnson s election did not serve any justice towards the effort of Reconstruction. He was a Southern Sympathizer who did all in his power to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feeding into the obvious prejudice of African Americans through President Johnson, the southern state legislatures implemented the Black Codes. These restrictions severely limited the freedoms of African Americans. In retaliation, Congress passed the Civil Acts Rights Act which stated that all people born in the U.S. are citizens; and this included African Americans. Johnson initially vetoed this bill, but Congress overrode it. This is just one example of Johnson s many disagreements with Congress. At that time, Congress also passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which abolished slavery, made everyone equal under the law, and gave African Americans the right to vote; which angered southern farmers and former slave owners. President Andrew Johnson was angered at the feat of Congress, so he decided to fire his Secretary of War, Edward Stanton. This went against the Tenure of Office Act, thus giving the Senate grounds for impeachment. Although acquitted, Johnson spent the rest of his term relatively mild mannered, rather than vetoing any and every bill passed by Congress. Angered at the fact that African Americans now had the right to vote, southern white farmers banded together to create the Ku Klux Klan. Their sole mission was to create fear in the lives of many African Americans as well as stop them from expressing their newly acquired rights. The Ku Klux Klan became somewhat of a form of domestic terrorism. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Social Darwinism Vs Unfit Essay Lord of the Flies, by William Golding presents the theory of Social Darwinism where the physically fit dominates over the unfit. Social Darwinism describes the physical strengths of a person which allows them to receive power even with illogical ideas or reasoning. In this society, appearance seems to affect a person s statue, although with Social Darwinism, an individual is judged entirely by his/her physical characteristics. The individuals born with exceptional athletic abilities are seen as fit, while the unfit are those who are incapable of heavy physical activities. The display of the physically fit people acquiring a vast advantage over the unfit is explained in the Social Darwinism article and the novel Lord of the Flies. The physical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fit sees no reason to assist those who are vulnerable because that would only promote a gain of the undesired reproduction. All the resources should go to the fittest and strongest in life to enable those individuals to flourish beautifully. As mentioned in the article, the society favors the fittest of all walks in life . The little ones were left alone on the island to feed themselves because they were considered to be a burden to the tribe since they don t have the skills to fend for themselves. The older boys did not feel the responsibilities of nurturing the little ones unconsciously. This shows that the influence of Social Darwinism is inveterate. Those who are in dreadful situations often have no intention of being there. However, Social Darwinism implies those have the intention of being there, hence the naturalistic fallacy described by the article. Take the little boys on the island for example, they did not intend to be incapable of taking care of themselves because of two reasons. Firstly they were collateral damage of the war. Secondly, the children are not at fault for their incapability of taking care of themselves since they are children. The vast idea of the weak not deserving aid creates an unfair society. This idea favors only the already fit which will generate a world filled with discrimination and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Origin And Nature Of Anthrax Origin and nature The earliest appearance of Anthrax occurred around 700 BC mostly affecting cattle, sheep, horses, and oxen. The people of Egypt and Mesopotamia at the time called it the 5th plague and the name Anthrax derives from the word coal, similar to the black skin leisures it produces. The first clinical cases of Anthraxwere described around 1752 and 1769 by Maret and Fournier respectively (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Scientist Robert Kochwas the first to study Bacillusanthracis in a clinical setting, in 1877 he developed the first microbial etiology. It was in the 1800 s that Anthrax was titled the woolsorters disease due to its relation with animal hair or wool from sheep (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Bacillus anthracis is an aerobic, spore forming, nonmotile, monomorphic bacteria with little to no genetic diversity. Anthrax spores are able to lay dormant for long periods of time allowing it to survive more than 40 years in the soil, 80 years in a vial, and 200 years in bones (Friedlander, 336). Bacillus anthracis is therefore known as a risk group 3 organism (Agren et al., 2014). This is part of what makes Anthrax such a risk, but more commonly Anthrax contamination in the soil only lasts for a few months and rarely for more than a few years when microbial competition exists in that soil (Friedlander, 336). Dreams are sequences of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. Most occurring during rapid eye movement or REM when brain activity is high and resembles being awake. Many believe that dreams are a connection to an individual s subconscious. Sigmund Freud, a scientist in the early 1900s performed extensive studies on dreams, including their interpretation, why they occur, and what they indicate. In addition, people have done studies to see the connection between dreams and certain sleep disorders. Losing more than one night s sleep produces a noticeable increase in irritability, lethargy, disinterest, and even paranoia. An individual s psychomotor performance and concentration are also affected and eventually immunological functions suffer. • 13. Summary Of In The Belly Of The Beast On Paul Solotaroff s In the Belly of the Beast : A Not So Subtle Argument Against Factory Farming The dawn of civilization began with mankind mastering a constant source of food. From humble grains to the mighty cow, raising and harvesting food has been an unchanged profession for millennia. Ingrained into the fabric of society to the point of the biblical story of Cain and Abel, where Abel, being a Shepard, offered one of his flock to God as a sacrifice which was preferred over Cain s grain offering. From biblical times, the progression of technology for herding and rearing animals had not changed up until the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution led to new mechanized ways of raising animals but, also losing touch with the natural way of things. This mechanized way of raising animals is talked about by Paul Solotaroff in his article, In the Belly of The Beast on how cruel and brutal the conditions are for the animals being raised today in factoryfarms and how people should act against them. Solotaroff opens the article with Sarah which isn t her real name and is made very clear that its important her real name isn t known. Sarah then describes the scene of the farm she works on in a vivid sense, such as the sensory assault of 10,000 pigs in close quarters: the stench of their shit, piled three feet high in the slanted trenches below; the blood on sows snouts cut by cages so tight they can t turn around or lie sideways; the racking cries of ... • 14. Suicide In Teen Suicide Suicide continues to be one of the main causes of death in teens throughout America. Statistically, suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470 people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide . On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution; but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and nothing is worth taking your own life over. In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family. Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive outlook on life. While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be even more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as constant lying may be a sign of suicidal person. When questioned by the Principal as to why he was there, Paul stated, politely enough, that he wanted to come back to school. If the SCLC respected women more than they did maybe Ella Baker would have stayed with them. But everything happens for a reason, if she did not leave the SCLC then she wouldn t have went to the NAACP and did all the work she did there. According to msbush.wikispaces.com Even more disappointing to her was Dr. King s unequal treatment between her and other males in the group. To go on, Martin Luther King Jr. did not treat women equal to men. Ella never got the credit or the respect from M.L.K, so she decided to leave the SCLC and join some other group so Ella could continue fighting for color people rights. Scientists from the University of Leicester have been doing some research, trying to figure out whether or not the wizards in Harry potter need magic to make the spells and potions work or do they have a scientific basis? The first thing they put to test is Gillyweed if you do not recall Gillyweed is a Mediterranean plant that Harry Potter used to help him win a challenge in The Goblet of Fire. If you ate the plant you were able to grow gills so that you could breathe underwater and have webbed feet and hands. The researchers decided to find out if the gills would have worked the way they were portrayed in the movie. Scientists Rowan Reynolds and Chris Ringrose first started their experiment by estimating that the gills that appear in the movie have a surface area of about 60cm2. They then took account of how much oxygen there was in the Black lake where the tournament took place and how much gas Harry would have needed to breathe underwater. ... • 35. The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s EnzymeNotes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions without changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming consumed or permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier (Enzymes). Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical reactions that take place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In order to generate chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific reactant that an enzyme acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site on the enzyme, which is a groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate flawlessly fits. Active sites are typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the polypeptide chains that are drawn together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes). Each type of enzyme can only bind with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate and the active site of the enzyme align ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the growing population of middle class households that have access to internet and cable, educational programming has seen a burst in activity and popularity. Families that were otherwise unable to access educational TV and games before are now able to do so, and their children have the opportunity to learn and play as they never have before. • 37. Gender Aspects Of Gender Roles Gender roles are social and behavioral norms that are considered generally appropriate for a man or a woman. America, as some describe it, is the land of great and equal opportunities for all, but the fact is that women are somewhat degraded and reduced to stereotypical gender roles such as being seen as only house wives instead of working, active women. Genderroles, he strong views of how a man and a womanare supposed to act, work, and live all still exist in our day to day lives. They are deeply embedded to most cultures. In some cultures it is so strong that, in certain circumstances, a man could control a woman s life because of the deep beliefs in the pre modern gender roles. Women are typically degraded in many places across the world. We see a lot of that in both The Namesake and The Only Daughter. In The Namesake, Ashima was very lucky. She once thought to herself about how other the Bengali wives do not have the amount of liberty she has. Ashoke gave Ashima the liberty to pretty much do what she wanted as long as she fulfilled her role as his Bengali wife. Ashima is portrayed as a woman who follows and respects Bengali s rules and culture, by taking care of her children and husband. Even though Ashoke gives her a lot of liberty, she still follows Bengali gender roles. In Bengali culture, there is a lot of male superiority. The wives have to do everything their husbands tell them to. In Indian tradition, they have arranged marriages. The woman does not even get to pick who she wants to boss her around for the rest of her life. Ashoke and Ashima s marriagewas arranged like most Bengali Indian marriages. Ashoke then had to move back to the US to finish his education and pursue his career. Since Ashima was now a married Bengali woman she had to drop everything and move to the United States with him. In Calcutta, Ashima was working toward a college degree. She did not get to finish her degree due to getting married and having to move to the United States so Ashoke could finish his degree. In The Only Daughter, the daughter was not paid attention to. Her father only ever paid attention to the brothers. The daughter tried to impress her father to get his attention. • 38. The Salary For A Dentist Similarly, the salary for a dentist differs from one dentist to another. Dentists who own their own practices can expect to make anywhere from $150,000 a year to possibly even $164,000 or higher over time (Dentists: Salary). Over time pay for dentists in expected to go up since it has been on the rise for the past decade or longer. Dentists in their first year, naturally, will not make the same amount of money as an experienced practicing dentist will (Dentists: Salary). Notably, dentists make much more than many other health care professionals, including pharmacists, registered nurses, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. According to statistics, dentists tend to do better and make more money in certain cities across the United States (Dentists: Salary). Some of these cities include Holland, Michigan, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Nashua, New Hampshire, Rochester, New Hampshire, and Valdosta, Georgia. In all of these cities, dentists make over $250,000 a year (Dentists: Salary). With all of the work required of a dentist and with all of the patients that see a dentist, it is impossible for a dentist to run an office alone. One group of people that are essential to a dentist and to a dental office are dental hygienists. Dental hygienists work very closely aligned with dentists for the overall health of patients (Dental Hygienists). Literature Review The essential problem presented in this research deals with instructors taking the role of online educators without proper support and application of research that clearly describes an effective process that constitutes achievements and goals. Thus, several online teaching and learning dimensions are presented to explain many successes and barriers that are often experienced today in online instruction. When considering course design, novice online instructors may consider the use of discussion boards as a technique to promote critical thinking. Asynchronous online discussions are an important communication tool for distance education (Bai, 2009). Many researchers agree that asynchronous discussions encourage reflective learning, in depth thinking and meaningful processing of information (Bai, 2009; Black, 2005; Dixson, Kuhlhorst Reiff, 2006; Gilbert Dabbagh, 2005; Hara, Bonk Angeli, 2000). However, the actual quality of these discussions has become a major concern regarding students cognitive engagement (Bai, 2009). • 40. Harvey Milk Thesis Statement Due to the increasingly negative view of homosexuality in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s, the LGBTQ community was facing a world altering decision; they could either shrink into the background, and allow the world to continue to draw its opinions based on speculation, or claim the spotlight and allow themselves to be judged based on their own merit. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the United States (Hope Speech, Commentary) saw a need for an uprising of the latter. When addressing a crowd of his supporters and the Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) people in The Hope Speech at San Francisco City Hall on Gay Freedom Day in 1978, Harvey Milk uses the I You/Us Them relationships as defined by Martin Buber, pathos appeals, and shared experiences to establish an emotional bond with the LGBTQ community. This relationship of comradery and mentorship, deeply rooted in shared values, best prepared the crowd to absorb his message of activism and hope. Harvey Milk, though he had known since high school that he was gay (Biography), was initially outwardly ambivalent to legislation passed against the LGBTQ community. This all changed after he befriended a group of gay radicals in his mid forties. They propelled him into the politically charged world of activism, in which he developed his voice, and stood out as a leader in the LGBTQ community. • 41. Analysis Of The Poem A Little Tooth By Thomas Lux Enjambment in Thomas Lux s Poem, A Little Tooth. Enjambment refers to the continuation of a clause or a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, stanza, or couplet. The purpose of enjambment in poetry is to enable an idea to progress beyond the limitations of a single line, mostly to emphasize a particular idea within the lines themselves. Also, poets adopt this style to surprise a reader, by introducing an idea in the first line, and changing it in the next. This allows a poet to draw the reader from one line to the next and create a fast pace or rhythm for a poem. Here, the poet uses the image of a twelve year old child who is alone and miserable to highlight the plight immigrants. The imagery is meant for the readers to show some sympathy towards immigrants. Physicalism In Jackson s Knowledge Argument I assert that Jackson successfully argues against physicalism, the entire world is completely physical, through his Knowledge Argument which declares that there is knowledge about the mind and consciousness that you cannot understand from only the physical properties and facts of the world. In Jackson s example in the Knowledge Argument, Mary learns everything there is to know about all the physical properties involved in color, color perception and what happens in a brain when a person witnesses anything that is red. She has learned all this information from only looking at shades of black, white and grey and has never witnessed red. This premise relies on the idea that all the knowledge the Mary gained through the experiment is only factual knowledge about a certain field of study. This is the weak link in the Knowledge Argument because someone can argue that some knowledge is not knowledge of facts which is what Mary is missing from the experiment. People can argue that Mary is missing procedural knowledge with is the knowledge that would make her able to do something like being able to recognize colors. If Mary is shown the color red, how would she know that its the color red if she was never taught how to recognize colors. Another example is if someone showed Mary a different color but told her it was red, how would Mary be able to tell the difference or know that this person is lying. • 43. The Way Of Self Regulation The way self regulation occurs will change over time based off of what culture the child lives in. For instance, crying is an acceptable form of self regulation for a baby, but not for a teenager so the teenager must find another way to self regulate when a challenge pops up (neurons to neighborhoods). A part of self regulation (which falls under the emotional part of self regulation) that is very important for infants to develop is effortful control, or how well the infantcan prevent impulses, cope with negative emotions, and behave in a way that is socially acceptable (Berk). It also predicts conscience, empathy, guilt, and low aggression, and gives children the ability to do something else when they are affected negatively so they aren t overwhelmed. Low effortful control is a consistent predictor of externalizing problems (temperament and personality, Rothbart). Infants show that they are beginning to obtain emotional self regulation around 12 18 months (Berk). With this evidence it is very obvious that self regulation is an important part of development. If a child isn t able to learn how to self regulate, he/she would not be able to learn important motor abilities, or have the capacity to deal properly with emotions. The best way children learn how to self regulate is by watching, interacting, and learning from others. This, and other things, are what determine that relationships with others are essential for healthy development. Early relationships are different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The steps taken for casting in a squeeze machine are : In squeeze machine, the mould box with pattern and sand in it is placed on a fixed table. A flat plate or a rubber diaphragm is brought in contact with the upper surface of the loose sand and pressure is applied by a pneumatically operated piston. The squeezing action of the plate causes the sand particles to get packed tightly above and around the pattern. Squeezing is continued until the mould attains the desired density. In some machines, the squeeze plate may be stationary with the mould box moving upward. The density and hardness of the rammed sand at the bottom of the mould box is less when compared to its top portions and this can be considered as a disadvantage. Squeezer machines press the sand in the flask between the machine table and overhead plate. Greatest mold density is obtained at the side of the mold from which the pressure is applied. The Efficacy Of The Myers Briggs Type Indicator Term Paper: An Evaluation of the Reliability of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Killeen McClowry The University of Texas at Dallas BIS3320 The Nature of Intellectual Inquiry An Evaluation of the Reliability of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an evaluative personality tool that is widely used throughout the world today. It is important for a tool that is popularly utilized in a variety of fields and at numerous professional institutions worldwide to be a credible one. So, is the MBTI really the valid reliable personality inventory instrument it claims to be? Evaluating this tool will show that empirically sound evidence does not exist to support the MBTI as an accurate, reliable, or valid instrument for profiling one s personality type. The MBTI questionnaire was created by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. Their collaborative work to develop this measurement of personality was inspired by to the writings/work of Carl Jung (more specifically his book entitled Psychological Type). This mother and daughter s shared fascination and interest in type theory led them to create the MBTI in the early 1940s as a test to be used for personnel selection. Myers believed that different occupations favored different personality orientations, and that Jung s theory provided a theoretical link between personality and job performance (Pittenger, 1993). • 48. Sandwich Bikes In the world of home exercise equipment, few pieces have been around as long as the exercise bike. Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of years, being used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use. There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle, pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a wider seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined position. Both bikes have good and bad points as we shall see. The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike ride than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a neutral position. Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an upright can irritate the condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get on and off of because of a higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or overweight people. An upright takes up less room than a recumbent. She believed that if she hid herself physically, her dark, internal self would thus be hidden. No one especially Stella, Stanley, and Mitch, the people closest to her would be able to see through the barrier of lies she created to cope with the death of her husband and her past which devastated her.
