2. Introduction
`Health according to the World Health Organization of the
United Nations “is a state of complete physical, mental and
social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity.”
Health is more important in human life, according to Swami
Vivekananda said, if wealth is loss nothing is loss, but
health is loss something is loss. Health education is a vital
part of general education.
3. Objectives
To providing healthful college living.
To protecting student against communicable and
other preventable diseases.
To discovering physical defects and other
abnormalities in the student and promoting their
correction, if they are remediable.
4. Cont.,
To developing the knowledge and attitudes which will
enable the individual to make intelligent health
decisions.
To developing college, home and community
cooperation in health promotion.
To provide health counseling.
5. College Clinic and Medial Service
Every college should set up a college dispensary to
look after the health of the pupils, to arrange for
medical examination of the pupils from time to time,
to guide the pupils to adopt preventive measures
against various diseases and to provide treatment of
minor ailments.
6. Medical Test
Systematic medical test in one of the most
important means of taking care of the physical well-
being of the students.
7. Medical inspection
Medical inspection is of no use unless proper
follow up work is undertaken. Mere diagnosis will not
serve the purpose of health education.
8. Health Counselling and Follow up
Health counselling is a procedure for helping pupils
and parents to gain insight into the nature and
significance of conditions revealed by various appraisal
techniques.
To give pupils the information about their health
status, revealed by appraisal procedures which they
can use to good advantage.
9. Cont.,
To interpret to parents the significance of health problems
and to encourage them to obtain needed care for their
student.
To motivate pupils to want and accept needed treatment.
To promote each pupils acceptance of responsibility for his
own health in keeping with his stage of maturity.

11. Suggestion
To establish health and counselling centre at higher
education level.
It should be thorough and comprehensive and should not
be treated as mere routine. It should not merely concern
itself with the height, weight and chest measurements but
should also concern itself with ears, teeth, eyes, nose, heart
and lungs etc. In fact no part of the body should be left
unexamined as far as possible.
12. Cont.,
Remedial measures should be taken to remove defects.
Students with serious defects should be examined more
frequently.
Three copies of the report should be prepared. One should
be sent to the parents, another should be kept by the teacher-
in-charge and the third one should kept by the medial officer.
13. Cont.,
To reduce the dropout due to health problems.
To make good sanitary facilities at higher educational
level.
14. Conclusion
Health Education is very essential for college going students, now
a day’s students facing many health oriented problems due to lack
of food, bad environment, water etc., College must take care of
student health then only they can make healthy students, healthy
students only concentrate his/her studies well, so college may
establish health and counselling centre in their institutions.
College should impart Health Education following ways such as
Healthy environment, Health book, Lectures and Talks, Printed
material, Health Weeks, Health projects, Health Clubs, Films and
Films Strips, Radio, Television, and Educational trips.
