Course: B.Ed. II Sem.
 The word “health” refers to a state of complete emotional and
physical well being. Health care exists to help people maintain
the optimal state of health.
 In 1948 the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health
with the phrase that is still used today.
 “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well
being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. WHO
1948
 In 1986 the WHO further clarified that the health is:
 “If resource for everyday life not the objective of living. Health
is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal
resources as well as physical capacities”.
 This means that health is a resource to support on individual's
functions in wider society. A healthful lifestyle provides the
means to lead a full life.
To promote positive health attitude.
To prevent the students from various diseases.
To provide essential health instructions and health
services.
Awakening health consciousness in children.
Provision of healthful environment.
To produce a well adjusted physically vibrant child who is
free from disease.
To provide healthful school living for both the children and
the staff.

It provides for constant and continual appraisal of the
chidren's health status.
Inspection of school environment & sanitation.
Holding meetings with parents & teachers.
Ensuring maintenane of records & reports.
Evaluation of the programme & redefining programme

Health education builds students' knowledge, skills &
positive attitudes about health.
Health education teaches about physical, mental,
emotional & social health.
It motivates students to improve & maintain their health,
prevent disease & reduce risky behaviors.
Health education curricula & instructions helps students
learn skills they will use to make healthy choices
throughout their lieftime.

Effective curricula result in positive changes in behavior
that lower student risks around: alcohol, tobacco and
other drugs, injury prevention, mental & emotional health,
nutrition & sexual & family life.
Health education can also boost a community's economy
by reducing healthcare spending andn losts productive
due to preventable illness.
Health education promotes learning in other subject. In
general, healthy students learn better. Numerous studies
have shown that healtheir students tend to do better in
school. They have higher attendance, have better grades
& performs better on testes.
