The Role Of Power And Power In Jane Eyre
Throughout the Victorian Age, male dominance deprived women from freedom of
choice. In Charlotte BrontГ« s novel, Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre repeatedly struggles to
become an independent young lady due to the troublesome men in the story. There
are several male characters who control, humiliate, and abuse their power over Jane.
The author manages to depict patriarchal dominance through the characterization of
John Reed, Mr. Brocklehurst, and Mr. Rochester. In the novel s exposition, Jane Eyre,
a ten year old child, begins to face gender injustice by his cousin, John Reed. In In
the Window Seat: Vision and Power in Jane Eyre, Peter J. Bellis states, John Reed
claims the house and its contents as his . . . (641). He exerts authority on her
simply because he is a male by abusing and bossing her, making it seem as if he
owns her. The situation starts holding Jane back as a female, leaving her
defenseless, as the powerless victim of its oppressive force (Bellis 641). John
greatly contributed to Jane s suffering as a child, by abusing the power he had over
her. She speaks of how John harshly demanded of her, saying, I want you to come
here; and, seating himself in an armchair, he intimated by a gesture that I was to
approach and stand before him, referring to him as master (4). The simple act of
her needing to call him master demonstrates the dominance he possesses. He
deprived her of freedom such as simply reading a book by controlling her life at a
young age, and it
Persuasive Essay On Rodent Removal
Rodents are a problem in homes across the world.
Mice and rats are the most common invaders. They re attracted to the prospect of
easy shelter and food. You may also find yourself up against squirrels that view attics
as protected nesting areas.
Still, it s troubling when you discover evidence of rodent activity in your home. It s
not just the violation of your food or the need to sanitize areas where you find rodent
droppings.
Rodents carry diseases that humans can catch, such as hantavirus and leptospirosis,
which makes them a threat to your whole family.
If you re up against an infestation, you have a number of rodent removal options
open to you. Let s take a close look at some of the things you can do for proper
rodent removal.
Traps and Poison
Traps and poison are widely employed rodent removal solutions, but there are some
things to consider.
You have a choice between several types of lethal traps.
There are electric traps that kill with a high voltage charge. Glue traps simply keep
the mouse stuck in place and it dies from starvation or dehydration.
Snap traps break the mouse s neck. These come in both an open and closed style.
The closed style traps are better for homes with pets and kids, since paws and
fingers can t get caught by the spring loaded bar.
If rodent killing just isn t your speed, you can also opt for a humane trap. Pro tip:
take the trap far from your home before releasing any mice. That prevents them from
coming straight back inside.

Australia s International Relations Between Australia And...
Today Australia is one of the most ethnically diverse societies in the world. Almost
one in every four Australian residents was born outside of the Australian boarders and
many more are first or even second generation Australians. These children and
grandchildren would have recently arrived as migrants or refugees, But in the
ninetieth and twentieth century, Migration was not accepted the same way. Australia
had various laws that aimed to keep people who were from non european
backgrounds out of the country. These laws also restricted the lives of people who
were not white and were already currently living in Australia. The ImmigrationAct
1909 most popularly known as the White Australia Policy which caused upset within
Australia s international relationships with Britain and Japan. This caused other
nations to criticise Australia s racial views and eventually immigration restrictions
were gradually loosened and Australian s began to be less fearful of people from a
wide range of different countries and backgrounds. The big push for the Immigration
Act 1901 in the first place was due to Australia s fear of Asian migration and
population take over.
The White Australia Policy was an immigration policy perused in Australia between
1901 and the late 1960 s to exclude non European migrants. In the 1850 s large
numbers of gold seekers came from South China to try their luck in Victoria,
Australia. By 1861, the Chinese community had taken up 7% of the Victorian
Sex Roles and Gender Bias in Early Childhood Education...
Sex role stereotyping and gender bias permeate everyday life. Children learn about
sex roles very early in their lives, probably before they are 18 months old, certainly
long before they enter school.(Howe, 1). The behaviors that form these sex roles
often go unnoticed but their effect is immeasurable. Simple behaviors like: the
color coding of infants (blue pink), the toys children are given, the adjectives used
to describe infants (boys: handsome, big, strong; girls: sweet, pretty, precious), and
the way we speak to and hold them are but a few of the ways the sex rolesare
introduced. These behaviors provide the basis for the sex roles and future
encouragement from parents and teachers only reinforce the sex roles.

In literature research, the boys of children s books are active and capable, and the
girls passive and in trouble (Howe,2).
In a mental health study conducted by Inge K. Broverman at Worcester State
Hospital in Massachusetts, it was discovered that the qualities more considered
healthy were those that are stereotypically male behaviors. Women exhibiting these
socially desirable behaviors were; however, not considered healthy. Socially desirable
male behavior Includes: aggression, independence, logic, confidence and ambition.
Female behavior was passivity, dependence, cooth and empathy (Howe, 3). It has
also been observed that despite any noticeable differences, girls are provided with
fewer experiences even in kindergarten (Howe, 5). The junior high school and high
school programs further accentuate the sex roles. Courses such as shop,
metalworking, home economics and typing often have gender requirements (Howe,
6).
Another school arena for open sexual discrimination is physical education. The boys
are often given priority in terms of equipment, gym availability and funding for
athletic activities (Howe,6).
Howe continues to discover more and more ways
Social Issues In The 1970s
The new era of television was in full action with the introduction and production of
relevancy television shows; these shows no longer hid from social problems and
injustices, but rather used the world around them to create relevant and slightly
more complex storylines. Shows like Chico and the Man and Mary Tyler Moore
Show were examples of how televisionin the 1970s looked at social issues in spheres
that had been previously ignored by network producers and became platforms that
allowed the spread of information to the public about social, economic, and political
struggles of minorities and women. Even though the 1970s demonstrated a new and
different mindset when compared to the programming that had been broadcasted in
the 50s, these progressive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chicano/a activist gained a victory with the creation of Chico and the Man, as a
Latino man was made a protagonist of a Primetime television show. Even as Chico
and the Man was rallied for giving the Latino community a platform to voice their
concerns and lives, the writing team consisting of white men, inadvertently denied the
show to authentically express Latino problems. While the show did touch did touch
upon social injustices, these problems were written by men who had not experienced
them, therefore causing one community (white) to create an indemnity for another
(Chicano). The show focused on issues that existed in the Chicano/Latino
community, but it also belittled racial slurs that the main character Chico faced in
order to achieve the ideological balancing act. The show could be presented to a
greater audience by having Ed, the man, insult Chico because it continued the
rhetoric strategic of shows from the 50s. Chico and the Man had both a stance
against discrimination, shown by Chico s speech to the officers, and expressed
discrimination, seen in Ed s racist remarks, due to this ideological balancing

The Trail-Personal Narrative
The cold air brushing up against my bare skin, the soft flakes of snow landing on
top of my head. must keep going I thought, just keep going . My vision was
beginning to get blurry, white patches began to show up on the bottom of my feet.
The blurriness was getting so bad I stopped my run and began to waddle back and
forth on the trail. My legs give out, my knees collapse under me and I fall onto the
soft piles of snow on either side of the trail. The long beautiful trees dripping with
snow looked like they came out of a fairy tale, the beauty was almost unrealistic.
My eyes drift close and my body shuts down from the cold. Just before my eyes are
completely shut I see the creature running across the trail its very hairy and has a long

The trees were almost pure white with black leaves on each large branch. I had
never seen anything like it. someone was here I think. There is a small hut built
into the side of a huge bolder. There was a small light coming from inside the hut
but I dare not go anywhere near that just incase it was the creature that was chasing
me from home. I begin to waddle away from were I lay however as soon as I try to
make an attempt to get away I hear the creak of a door swinging open and a
loading of a gun. The bullet locking into the chamber was as quiet as a pin drop yet
sounded like a jackhammer slamming into the ground at full force. As I began to
break into a sprint I hear the loud bang of the gun releasing the bullet into the air.
Before my foot hits the ground I am thrown to the ground writhing in pain. I look

The Character Guido Orifice In The Movie Life Is Beautiful

life is a beautiful thing. Guido and his son, Joshua get to the concentration camp
but Guido tells him that it is a game to one thousand points and a winner gets a
tank. Guido never tells Joshua the truth and is always telling him that what they
are doing is a game and that they are doing it for the tank. While at the
concentration camp Guido always found ways to make it seem like fun for Joshua
even though they were after all in one of the most miserable places on earth. An
example is when the war has ended and the camp is crazy and machine guns are
going off and Guido tells Joshua It is crazy like this because you are the only one

John Donne s Poetry
John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for
many metaphysical poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately
recognizable, formed to the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early
years of sensuality, where he produced explicit sexual poetry, along with his later
years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a lot of which are
hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was
living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his
more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. He changed the way
most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries wrote and had a large impact on the poets
to follow after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,
Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because
Donne was not using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like
his colleagues. A metaphysical conceit requires a more introspective way of
reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many were shocked over how
Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical
conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics.
Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a
present listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while
the other poets of his day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a
specific listener. His poems have very few large descriptive passages like the one s
used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t have the smooth,
poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the
poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show
the intensity of Donne s

Coronary Angioplasty or PCTA in 2011. The chest pain started 3 days ago upon
admission and described the pain as 3 out of 10 in pain scale for severity. The
patient stated that the pain feels like a squeezing pain on the chest and no
aggravating factors caused it as she recalls. The patient used Nitroglycerine to
alleviate the pain, which lasted about 4 hours each past several days. The patient also
stated that she was not sick, no fever or chills, and did not experience any nausea and
vomiting.

The patient brought herself to the hospital because of the necessity to seek
medical help. The chest pain was not relieved after 3 days when she decided to

awareness of the possible danger she is facing by driving herself to the hospital,
particularly in the possibility of angina exacerbations while driving. The husband
was present during the interview. The husband stated that he did not realized the

Discussion Of Inclusion Research
Results and Discussion
This research explored the perception of teachers in relation to the concept of
inclusion. The finding revealed a range of issues that illustrate how the concept of
inclusion has been interpreted by teachers.
Determining the concept of inclusion and its benefits
In this study, inclusion was not solely about the inclusion of a single child or
children with disabilities or SEN. Rather it was built on the belief that all should
benefit from access to the same educational experience. An experience as this teacher
says should enrich their lives,
Inclusion is giving everyone, regardless of ability/disability, gender, background,
religion, culture, equal opportunities to access all parts of school life, not just
academic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way of defining the differences between inclusion and integration is for inclusion
to happen the environment changes to fit the child s needs while integration is the
child has to change to fit into the environment. Unfortunately, this again does not
translate well into practice. A teacher referred to an autistic pupilwho was reluctant to
complete his work unless the subject was of interest to them. The teacher said they
had written this in the pupil s school report home. Furthermore, a teacher
commented on a pupil who always took his jumper off without permission (school
policy is to ask teachers permission to remove jumper) and no matter how often she
told him or punished him he would state that he was hot and he had to take his
jumper off. Further questioning revealed the pupil was autistic. The problem for
teachers appears to be if one pupil is not conforming to the norms and rules the other
pupils will not conform and follow the rules. The teachers expressed the feeling of
walking a tightrope trying to balance between accommodating the needs of the SEN
pupil with keeping law and order with the rest of the class. One concern raised was
that if the other pupils witnessed the SEN pupil not conforming then this might single
them out to the rest as being different and this might hinder the social dynamic of the
The Characteristics Of Heroes In The Outsides And The...
Gerard Way once said, All the best heroes are ordinary people who make
themselves extraordinary . This quote means that someone does not need to be a
superhero and have special powers to be a hero. Heroes are people who do amazing
things with what traits they possess. Heroes are extremely common in books,
movies, and comics. In today s society, heroescould be anyone from doctors to
soldiers. Clearly, in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Darry Curtis and Dallas
Winston both can be considered heroes. A herois someone who will selflessly help
others. Heroes make the world and community more desirable places and are
admired by others. Heroes make the world a better place due to the fact they protect

Darry does not want anything to happen to Pony so he has to be very firm with
him. Furthermore Darry looks after the gang and tries to keep them safe. Some of
the gang s home lives are not the greatest so Darry always leaves the front door
unlocked so that they can blow off steam and keep themselves out of trouble. Darry
would rather have the gang stay over on their couch than do something foolish.
Without a doubt, Darry Curtis can be considered a hero due to the fact that he works
hard to keep his family together and to support them.
Clearly, Dallas Winston can also be seen as a hero in the book The Outsiders by
S.E Hinton. Even though Dally has a police record a mile long, he cares for
Johnny and tries to be a caring and loving figure in Johnny s life. When Johnny
kills Bob, Dally gives him money, a gun, and a safe spot to go. Dally could have
saved the getaway location and his back up plan for himself, but he gave it to
Johnny. Johnny is one of the only things on earth that Dally loves. Another example
that Dally is a hero is that he saves Johnny from the burning church, even though he
could die doing it. To save Johnny from burning to death, he runs back into the
church, risking his life in order to save Johnny. This is exactly what firefighters and
other heroes do. Ultimately, as much trouble that Dally causes, he can be called
Mademoiselle Reisz Song Analysis
To me, this song is the only one that truly explains Mademoiselle Reisz s rebellious
attitude. This song portrays an attitude of not caring what society expects of you,
and this is exactly the vibe I get from Mademoiselle Reisz. Mademoiselle Reisz is
an unmarried, childless woman who very passionately pours herself into her
music. By societal standards, she is an outcast in every way. She does not wish to
conform, and she does not care what people think of her. Mademoiselle Reisz does
not care about what others think about her, and she is perfectly happy with herself
as she is. She does not need to conform or have a man in order to feel fulfilled, and
that is the predominant message of this song. In this song, Kesha sings about how
she provides

Compare Macbeth And Animal Farm
In the play Macbeth and the book Animal farm, the idea of power is well presented
by Shakespeare and Orwell. In which both lead to the key protagonists gaining
complete power, and it leading to complete corruption. Macbeth was written
between 1603 1606. It was written to please the newly throned King James IV of
Scotland. This is evident in the play as Shakespeare shows regicide would have
been feasible, but unthinkable to the Jacobean audience, who had lived through the
gunpowder plot aimed at targeting King James. Such acts were a concern of that
time. Shakespeare is giving a clear message that such acts will only lead to self
destruction. In comparison Animal farm, an algory for the Russian revolution was
written by George Orwell in 1945. Animal farm follows the role of Stalin in the set of
a farm in England. Orwell does this to show that communism like the communism

Macbeth is brave and therefore belived he can gain total power from the beginning.
Macbeth is described by Duncan and the Captain as brave friend and Brave
Macbeth . Shakespeare uses repetition of brave to emphasise that Macbeth is well
thought of. Because Shakespeare shows Macbeth as brave and is seen as well
thought of, it enables him to gain power. Unlike Animal Farm Macbeth does not
gain ambition, he already has this trait and it is in fact his hamartia. Where
Macbeth gains realisation that he can be king from the 3 witches telling him about
how he will one day be king, thou shalt be king herafter . This is where he realised
he can be king and starts his climb to the top. Shakespeare shows us that Macbeth
wants power because he says I have no spur to prick the sides om my intent, but
only vaulting ambition, which o erleaps itself and falls on the other . Shakespeare
uses the word ambition here as it clearly shows that Macbeth has a strong desire to

What Role Did Womens Soccer Play In The 1930 s
Women s football or more commonly known as women s soccer. Women played
organized soccer in Europe as far back as the 1930 s, however in the United States
women didn t start till the 1970 s. It was until 1995 that the first women s league
was launched, and it was not until 2001 that the women team made its debut.
When women s soccer finally took off in the United States, it was fueled by an
extreme number of youth players. Now day s soccer is a very popular sport played
both in recreational level, and professional. Soccer is played by kicking the ball into
the opposing teams net. Goalkeepers, such as Hope Solo, block the ball from
entering the goal. Goalkeepers are the only ones who can use their hands. Julia

Gospel John Comparison
Though the gospels are similar, the gospel John is very distinct from the others.
One way that it is different was that He (John the writer) was writing to both
believers and nonbelievers so everybody. Also, he wasn t writing about Jesus life
mainly, but how people will have eternal life if people believe in him. While the
other Gospels have said multiple times Kingdom of God, John used eternal life more.
Another way that the gospelJohn is very distinct from the others is that John includes
a lot more of Jesusministry. For instance, all of John 2 4 is for the most part out of
the other three gospels. This is the part where Jesus is ministering in Galilee. Lastly,
another difference that I noticed was in the beginning of the three gospels, it starts
our roughly with Jesus birth, but the gospel of John does not. Instead, it starts out
with the creation of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this isn t on accident, but is kind of saying that Jesus was there and around
since the creation of the world, not just since His birth. The author John also is
different between the other writers of the other gospels. One thought is that he
was actually in Jesus inner circle. This would cause a difference in his writings as
well because then he is getting the story directly from Jesus, whereas the others
would be getting it from others. Therefore, the others might have gotten revised or
slightly different stories. Previously said, we learn different things about Jesus in
the Gospel of John that is missed or less clear by the other Gospels. A couple
things that are in John that aren t in the other three gospels are all the I am sayings
and also His conversation with the Samaritan woman. Another thing that is in the
gospel John but not in the others is the washing of the disciple s feet. This is why
the gospel of John is so important to be with the others. If the gospel of John was not
around, then none of these events would be told to us, and these are all

The Cosmological Argument Analysis
The early idea of the cosmological argument was developed by two historic
philosophers named Plato and Aristotle. The idea of the cosmological argument was
to provide the proof of the existence of God. A philosopher named Saint Thomas
Aquinas then took this idea and developed it into what he calls his The Five Ways .
The five ways that Aquinas provided to prove that Godexisted is by the unmoved
mover, the first cause, the argument from contingency, and the argument from degree.
The first of the five ways that Aquinas proves that god exists is the idea of the
unmoved mover or prime mover . Aquinas believes that all things that are natural are
in motion and are finite. Since everything natural is in motion and finite then a first
mover must exist. If the first mover or the prime mover does not exist then there
would be no other mover and nothing natural would be in motion. The natural things
around us are not able to move by their own so the existence of the prime mover is
created. Aquinas believes God is the first mover of the universe, unmoved by no one
else, which makes God the unmoved mover. God set the universe in motion because
nothing moves itself; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas s second reasoning is very similar to his idea of the unmoved mover and
they take place simultaneously. Aquinas believes that everything has a cause. He
does not believe in the idea of an infinite cause because that cause can be traced
back to the first cause which makes it finite. Since everything is finite then there
must be a first efficient cause for itself. Without a first cause there would be no later
causes which, therefore means, nothing at all would exist. It is impossible for the
first cause to have a cause. Aquinas believes that since the universe exists, then there
needs to be a first cause which began all causes, which is why God is the uncaused

Why Is Guilt Important In Macbeth
In the tragedy Macbeth by William Shakespeare we see guilt develop throughout
the story and learn what guilt can do to a person. In the play Macbeth a war hero
named Macbeth and his best friend, Banquo, are walking back from war when they
come across three witches. These witches give Macbeth a three part prophecy in
which they say he will be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King of Scotland.
Macbethis already Thane of Glamis and right after his conversation with the
witches he is announced Thane of Cawdor. This makes the first two parts of the
prophecy true and gets Macbeth thinking he will be king, and in order to do so he
must kill King Duncan and his heirs. In the play Macbeth, we learn that guilt
catches up with the guilty by murder, and using the motifs of blood and sleep. In
the drama Macbeth the start of murdering helps us learn that guilt catches up with
the guilty. In the story of Macbeth we see the first murder when it says, To know
my deed, twere best not know myself (Act 2, Scene 2, Page 59, Line 95). This line of

Foul whisp rings are abroad. Unnatural deeds do breed unnatural troubles. Infected
minds to their deaf pillows will discharge their secrets (Act 5, Scene 1, Page 157,

Quabbin Reservoir History
The Quabbin reservoir is a manmade body of water that was created to supply the
greater area of boston with fresh water and has been for decades.
The Quabbin reservoir was created to supply boston with more water due to the
rising population of boston. In the 1930s four towns were relocated so that the
reservoir could be made becuase of the natural valley the towns sat in.
When construction began in 1927, the Swift River was redirected from its riverbed
and through a diversion tunnel. On August 14th, 1939 that tunnel was sealed with
rock. Over the next seven years the waters of the Quabbin Reservoir slowly rose
behind the newly completed Winsor Dam, an earth filled structure 2,640 feet long,
rising 170 feet above the riverbed, and the slightly smaller Goodnough Dike. The
water seeped into the old cellar holes, and gradually submerged the roads that had

Authority, created in 1984, is responsible for the treatment and distribution of the
water, and the development of new water supplies. Rangers, foresters, a wildlife
biologist, a staff of engineers, skilled craftsmen and laborers all help to ensure the
purity of Quabbins water and watershed, and maintain and protect Quabbins very

The Scientific Revolution Was Not An Organized Effort
Eppur si muove, (but it does move) said Galileo Galilei. (Koyre 1943) The
scientific revolution marks a decisive break between the middle ages and the
modern world, but it was rooted in earlier developments. It s the link between
observation, experiment, and invention. The scientific revolution was not an
organized effort; theories sometimes led to a dead end and discoveries were often
accidental. The scientific revolution left a permanent imprint upon history and from
its legacy developed the colossal modern social orders of today. (Huff 1996)
Heliocentricity is a theory that places the Sun as the center of the universe, and the
planets orbiting around it. It s important because it is the belief that the earth is the
center of the universe. (Cole, et al. 2012) For many years, different philosophers
argued about what they believed was the center of the universe. Some had their ideas
revolve around the church and others had self opinionate ideas without any
integration of the church. Nicolaus Copernicus was an understudy of past onlookers
and a theoretician. He contemplated the watched movements of grand bodies in
connection to the acknowledged geocentric Aristotelian framework, which put the
earth at the focal point of the nearby planetary group, with the sun and planets in
circle. Copernicus perceptions drove him to infer that there was some kind of
problem with the geocentric hypothesis. He tried the speculation that the earth was

Amundsen was a Norwegian explorer; he was going to the North Pole, however,
Robert Peary beat him there. Amundsen decided to change his plans and go to the
South Pole. Amundsen discovered the North West Passage. Amundsen wrote in his
diary saying, As for the tent, with regard to shape and size it is comfortable but it is
too susceptible to the wind (Alexander). This quote shows that Amundsen learned
that when going to the South Pole he would need wind resistant tents for himself and
his crew. To keep warm when they slept; otherwise, they would freeze. With him
discovering that he needs a better tent made him look into better polar equipment.

importantly, the National Achievement Test is not just a test for students but also for
the principal leadership skills that promotes a positive school climate condition that
can affect the student s academic performance. According to the Second Regional

students it is essential to provide a welcoming and warm environment based on
mutual respect. In this line, there is a need to evaluate the level of profile of the
students and school climate condition to assess the needs of the students. The
purpose of this study is to identify the students profile in terms of age, gender, family
income, parents educational attainment, and grades for the last school year attended.
It also needs to identify the school climate condition that provides school to

Ambiguity In Song Of Solomon
Song of Solomon, a novel written by Toni Morrison, exposed me to the abstract
concept of spirituality, revealed to me the meaning of flight and Milkman s
journey. When Guitar attempts to kill Milkman, Milkman s leap toward him left
me wondering if they had died. I began to think about the motif of flight and how
all the events and people in the novel connect. The African American folktale, The
People Could Fly, written by Virginia Hamilton, tells a story of Africans who fly,
Africans who escape from the inhumane apparatus of slavery, Africans who
achieve freedom. This story connects to the story of Solomon, Macon I s father,
Milkman s great grandfather, in the period of slavery. All his life, Milkman had felt
alienated and caused pain to those who loved him. Morrison shows readers that the
reason for his heartless behavior dates back to Solomon s flight, Macon Dead I s
(Jake) orphanhood,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robert Smith s suicide, I questioned whether or not flight was literal or
metaphorical. In the shared inquiry, Morgan pointed out something pretty
interesting: Flight is assumed as suicide in the beginning, but the concept evolves
into ambiguity. It is literal in the novel as a component of magic realism, the
incorporation of fantastical elements in a realistic setting and/ or a distortion of
reality, however is a metaphorical concept for escaping slavery, and letting go.
One of my favorite quotes from the novel is said by Guitar, Wanna fly, you got to
give up the shit that weighs you down. (179) I interpreted as letting go of the
burdens and parts of me that is keeping me from reaching self actualization, the
fulfillment of my potential, and becoming all that I can be. I believe that magic
realism allowed me to be a part of the characters own individual worlds and it helped
me realize that what I thought I knew was found to be something entirely different,
eventually unveiling the purpose of Milkman s journey and his
US National Debt
The US National debt approaches 20 trillion dollars, and no large measures are in
place to slow its increase. Addressing the debt problem will require the American
people to sacrifice either their money, or the promises that the government gave to
them. The American people and their government must be responsible and address
the debt problem now, before it becomes unmanageable in the future.
The history of the egregiously high national debt is fairly recent. During Bill Clinton s
presidency, Congress was on a pay as you go system, meaning that Congress had to
plan for how they were going to pay for every action that they took. The United
States had a budget surplus, meaning that it had collected more taxes than it had
spent. There are several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most politicians understand the problems of the ever increasing debt, but actually
solving it takes a lot of sacrifice. It would be nice if fiscal education could help
solve this problem. Americans always ask Congress for more while paying less.
With repealing the Affordable Care Act, for example, the people who are in favor
of replacing it ask for more coverage at a lower cost. This more for less attitude
causes the Medicare problem where people pull out four times more money than
they put into the system. As the Frontline program said, this is unsustainable. If
people were aware of the problems that they create with their wants from the
government, they might be able to concede giving some of these things up.
However, this might not work. Many people find it hard to give up their own
benefit for future people. Because of this, it will also require Congress to favor
balancing the budget over their popularity. The pay as you go program seemed to
work well in the 1990s, and I think implementing it again will allow Congress to be
more responsible with their money. Also, some Congressmen should step up and
create bills to fix the Medicare and Social Security problems that loom in the future,
either by raising taxes or by shrinking coverage. Both measures would be highly
unpopular, but it would be responsible to tackle the problem now, rather than push it
off for future people to deal

Abstract
Urinary tract infections are not generally considered as a sexually transmitted
infection, however is it possible to contract the infection from unprotected sex? It is

Usually the infection is treated with antibiotics, with no further complications.
However, it is possible for the infection to spread to the ureters, and or kidneys,

Meanwhile, in European places, such as Paris and London, there were still muddy

Muslim Empire encouraged this research in the medical field. They wanted people
who knew about diseases and medical procedures treating them were they were ill.
This made the Muslims much more advanced and knowledgeable in medicine than
other parts of the world. In fact, Muslim cities boasted some of the best hospitals in
the world. One reason they were so efficient is that doctors and pharmacists were
required to complete a specific course of study and pass a formal examination before
being able o practice medicine. However, this knowledge was not exclusive to the
Muslim Empire, but rather it was translated into Latin and was used in European
schools. The spread of this knowledge made Europe significantly more
knowledgeable regarding diseases and medical procedures than they were prior to
them receiving this information. In addition to advancements in the medical field,
other scientific advancements were made. The created the practice of the experiment
as well as a method of classification into three distinct categories: animal, vegetable,

Negative Effects Of Grand Theft Auto
Video games are a part of most everybody s life, whether it be on their phone, a
handheld gaming device, or on a console and tv setup. Not all of the games are
made for toddlers or children under 13, so its safe to say that there are some that can
be on the heavier side with the gore and explicit content. These gamescan get brutal
and they Grand Theft Auto is definitely one of those games that can get to be too
much for some people. Grand Theft Auto has negative effects on the society because
of the foul language, sexual content, exposure to violence, and drugs involved
throughout the game. Grand Theft Auto , like many games, has a lot of foul
language throughout its gameplay, but it takes it a bit further. The F word gets
thrown around every other sentence either after or followed by sh*t and/or b**ch.
The civilians are even known to swear at the player for when they feel threatened.
Games should not be allowed to be exposing any age group to this much foul
language just in a game. They use these swear words too often throughout the
game and there is no reason for such strong language so often in a short period of
time. The game should not be played by children or anyone who will tend to repeat
a word once learned. It could teach children a lot of swear words that they could end
up using at school or teaching to another classmate or friend. This language from
kids can get them in a lot of trouble from their teachers, principle and parents.

Exosystem Level Partners
Benson, Harkavy, Puckett, (2000) suggest that a primary issue that academics and
education practitioners should seek to resolve is how democracy is realized in
neighborhoods. Inspired by John Dewey, the authors suggest that strengthening local
democratic neighborly communities is a way of advancing collaborative
relationships. The authors propose that partnering with university supported research
programs and academically based community service learning programs is one way
of forging democratic and mutually beneficial partnerships between academic
institutions and communities. University partnerships within challenged
communities have in instances been conceptualized as a means of intervention
(Cohen, 2001). However, this intervention has at times resulted in projects which
position the university researchers and their service learning programs students as
problem solvers, attempting to examine poverty and a community s state of decline,

mortality for all age groups (Assaad, El Masri, Porhayman, El Sohl, 2012, p. 453).
Vaccinationfor influenza is widely identifiable as one of the most efficient and cost
effective public health interventions. (Wheelock, Thomson, Sevdalis, 2013, p. 893).
Approximately 90% of deaths caused by these illnesses occur among adults sixty
five years of age or older. It is hypothesized that the impairment to the airway
epithelial lining triggered by influenza fosters bacterial growth, and that in turn
bacterium derived proteases boost virus related virulence. There are several studies
that have been established that show vaccinating the population of older patients,
aged sixty five and older, has shown a decrease in developing pneumonia during flu
season. In a sizable study that included Swedish patients aged ≥ than 65 years old
showed that immunization with the flu vaccine resulted in a 29% decrease in the
occurrence of all cause pneumonia and a 35% drop in the death rate from all cause
pneumonia in the vaccine group. Moreover, patients who were admitted in the
hospital for influenza or
Asian Americans And The American Dream
Today, the status of the American Dream is mostly beneficial for citizens in the
country that have certain connections and higher education. Overall, the American
Dream is dying and it is much harder for a person now to achieve it if he or she
does not have any direct connections or a higher education and a more well off
economic standpoint. The standards in the society has made is much more difficult
for minorities to face their obstacles to pursue their dreams. Over 44% of the
American population today are minorities because of the influx of immigrants and
refugees coming into the States simply looking for a better life than what they have
had before and to provide the best for their family. This dream is very much alive

Questions such as You speak English well. Where did you learn it? (DiversityInc) and
Where are you from? No, where are you really from? (DiversityInc) are common
questions that fuel stereotypes even though it might come out as a harmless question.
Anand, a responder to the English question says that Just because a person has an
accent...that s different than mainstream results in assumption that a person can t
communicate. (DiversityInc).
Since Asia is a vast and thriving country, there are plenty of different languages
Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese are just some common
languages that are in United States. However, language barriers present a problem to
Asian Americans especially in the older generations. One of the contributing factor to
the differences between AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) group is
English proficiency... (Migrante21). The reason why English proficiency is a factor
in Asian Americans is because some Asian Americanhouseholds only have one
language spoken at home. By retaining their languages at home, the elderly has very
little chances to speak English unless they are speaking to their grandchildren or their
children. This type of language isolation is very prevalent in my own household
where my mom and dad sometimes have a tough time speaking in English and would
often stumble on their own words. This is because in the household,

Rough Draft: Forks [NEED BETTER TITLE]
Just as his dad didn t require him to speak Japanese, my dad didn t require me to use
chopsticks. Both must have decided at some point that passing along cultural heritage
in these particular forms was too much of a hassle. Becoming familiar with other
things, like literature in English, Calculus, Bob Dylan, Charlie Chaplin, and Baseball,
took priority. Perhaps this is the process known as Americanization, although both of
them were already as American as they come well before I was born. Compared to
the many important parenting decisions that would surely play a role in determining
my identity, whether or not to train me on chopsticks at a young age was a barely
noticeable fork in the road. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why use a fork when eating with hands is both faster and cheaper? Contributing to its
slow adoption, the fork also shared traits with the pitchfork or trident of the devil
along with the connotation of the forked tongue, not exactly the epitome of
truthfulness that would be desired in an everyday object. By the 11th century
some people had adopted the use of the fork (Goldsmith). However, its use was
uncommon and its users were sometimes ridiculed for their seemingly unnecessary
use. One princes is described by saying that she deigned not to touch her food with
her fingers, but would command her eunuchs to cut it up into small pieces, which
she would impale on a certain golden instrument with two prongs and thus carry to
her mouth (Goldsmith). Clearly at this time forks were not yet for everyone but
only for a few of the upper class. Forks were not widely adopted until the industrial
revolution which allowed the mass production of the silver plated utensils for all
(Goldsmith). At this point many commoners could afford to not only own a fork
but a whole set of silverware (Goldsmith). [NEED TO TIE HISTORY BACK TO
POINTS] One might observe that while forks can scoop things up, they are
designed for stabbing. They re good for separating solids from liquids, wrapping a
tangle of noodles into a clump, plucking and poking to test the texture of something
suspiciously foreign on a plate. With the help of a knife, they can be

Over my high school years at Waukesha North, I have had a very diverse and fun
experience. From my sophomore year when i started working and earning my own
money to my freshman year when i joined marching band. High school has taught me
a lot about myself and others, and i only plan to further the knowledge through my
college years.
Marching band is hands down one of the biggest influences in my life. It has only
impacted me in a positive way. From friendships that I know will last a lifetime to
experiences i could never forget. My junior year in band I was baritone section leader

try and get it changed and she told me that she couldn t do it. I was very
disappointed by this but ended up taking the class anyways. Three years later I am
in an ap marketing class and wanting to go to college to study for it. It s amazing
how you can find something you love that changes your life all by accident.
I feel that I am a very dedicated person. Take marching band for instance. It is an
extracurricular activity that takes over 2000 hours of your life over the course of
four years. That is just over 83 straight days of your life put solely into one activity.
This is all while juggling academics, athletics, and work. Dedication is very
important to me as a person because i feel that if you aren t going to give something
your all, then you re wasting your time.

Economic Policy Paper
Economic Policies
The Right Policy for the Job
Beginning in the summer of 2005 the U.S. suffered inflationary mortgage crises
because low interest rates and adjustable rate mortgages (ARM) lead lenders to
entice many lower income people into buying homes they couldn t afford. An article
in the CQ Researcher stated more than 2 million borrowers lost their homes to
foreclosure (Mortgage). This is because they were unable to make the payments on
high interest subprime mortgages. Further this resulted in mortgage lenders, banks
and investors being left with bad loans to write off and eventually most needed a
bailout and the economy sank into a recession. This is just one example of the

Fiscal policy is something many are not aware of or do not fully understand,
however it s one of the major issues that affect all of us. Federal spending policies
affect social security, disability and unemployment aid. Tax policies can change your
income level and influence consumer purchase ability and choices. Determining a
fiscal policy plan is sometimes a long process, the president and the Congress have to
determine a budget and then figure out a level of spending and taxes for different
categories such as national defense, transportation, health, human services and more.
In order to control economic inflation and recession problems such as the recent
mortgage crisis discussed at the onset. An economic policy mix of expansion and
contraction methods is used to control aggregate supply and demand. Expansionary
fiscal policy is more effective in improving the real economy. Expansionary monetary
policy is better suited for controlling the financial economy. Fiscal policy can be
target, whereas monetary policy tools are blunter, both types of policies impact
consumers and businesses in different
Analysis Of The Unvanquished
William Faulkner; The Unvanquished The title of the novel is derived at a time
when the American Civil war was taking place and is the renowned author, William
Faulkner. The novel is divided into seven stories which are a sequel to each other
since the characters of the book are mainly the Sartoris family who resided in
Yoknapatawpha Countyin the greater state of Mississippi. The imagery of this novel
has helped people, particularly to the Americans to embrace the culture of
determination as depicted by the characters. The characters in the novel include
Bayard Sartoris, Joseph Sartoris, Granny Ringo, Cousin Drusilla and the lieutenant.
The novel is precisely about Bayard Sartoris who is a white boy and he befriends
Ringo, an African American boy at a time when racial discrimination and slavery
was still common. The two boys relationship is closely monitored by Granny while
Bayard s father, John Sartoris is busy in the civil warsince he was a soldier. The Civil
War was between the northerners and the southerners regarding the issue of
slavery hence the friendship between the two boys was suspicious to the people at
that time. Bayard Sartoris is forced to assume the roles of a man despite the fact
that he is just a twelve year old boy who deserves to have a role model who would
guide him appropriately. The two boys enjoy their friendship since they are naГЇve

The rain pounds against the pavement, the periodic roar of thunder startles me and
I am caught alone on an empty street that seems to go on forever. I m shivering in the
frigid, cool breeze. Mr. Reaper said he d be awaiting me here. He says Miss Freyja, a
goddess, is joining him today, and they will come in a chariot pulled by two giant
cats. The cat s names are Bygul and Trjegul, I am to treat them with the most
respect. I m just as excited as I am sad. You see my cat, who happens to be my best
friend, died, and Mr. Reaper and Miss Freyja are about to determine her fate after
death. I ve also been waiting ages to meet Miss Freyja, I just wish I could have been

that was possible, since you know he is The Grim Reaper. I understand why Grim
is so in awe with Freyja she s heavenly beautiful, and her presence makes you want
to innocently kiss her face. But there s also something that makes you feel as if she s
haunting you with how incredibly flawless she is.
My cat, Syd, suddenly feels less heavy. It takes me a few seconds until I realize he

very bright against the gloomy atmosphere. And he s gone, they re all gone, and I m

Chapter Summary Of Opening Skinner s Box
In chapter 1, Opening Skinner s Box, Slater talks about a psychologist named B. F.
Skinner. Skinner shows us how easily operant conditioning can be done. He
believed that you have a better outcome if you study observable behavior instead
of studying mental events. Skinner s work focused on operant conditioning.
People and animals were the subjects of his studies. They were subjected to gears
or buttons and scheduled reinforcement. The experiment in this chapter deals with
a box of rats he receives from one of his colleagues. He wanted to see if he could use
those rats to see if he could train them using positive reinforcement. He wanted to
see if hungry rats placed in a box could learn to press a lever if they were rewarded
with food. The box had a lever on the side that the rats would eventually find and
accidentally knock or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once it was knocked a pellets immediately came into the box. Each time the rats
would knock the lever pellets would come down. The rats learned quickly. After
Skinner learned that the rats could be trained using operant conditioning, he decided
to further his experiment. He removed the pellets as a reinforced and found that the
rats would eventually stop pressing the lever. He also decided to reward the rats
intermittently. He found that irregularly rewarded behavior was the hardest to
eradicate. He was then able to explain why we do dumb things even when we are not
consistently rewarded. Skinner s experiments were amazing and disturbing at the
same time. His discoveries were significant but they also illuminated human stupidity.
It s amazing how relevant operant conditioning is to this day. I find it amazing how
easy it is to condition or train someone to do something you want them
Chupacabra Research Paper
There are some people who inaccurately believe that sightings of the chupacabra
date back to the 1970s, but the chupacabras first sighting report did not come until
1995 in Puerto Rico. The chupacabra seemingly suddenly sprang into existence and
no one knows for sure why or how the chupacabra came to be. The chupacabra had
a zenith of about five years, when it was wide ly reported in Mexico, Chile,
Nicaragua, Spain, Brazil, Argen tina, and Florida among other places (Radford
Tracking). In Hawley, Texas there was a report of a goat man and they called it
The Hawley Goat Man. The strange thing about this is that in the report of the goat
man in mentioned a creature covered in scales and fur, which bears little
resemblance to most re ports of the chupacabra, this alleged encounter happened near
Fort Worth which is over 160 miles east of Hawley (Radford Texas).... Show more

There are many different de scriptions of the chupacabra from the several sightings
of them, but none of them have been confirmed, the one that is most common and
considered to be the original of these de scriptions is that it is a bipedal creature
with long legs and arms, stands about three to five feet tall, has a large oval shaped
head, alien wrap around eye, and a distinctive row of spikes going down the
creatures spine. The creature known as the chupacabra is thought to be a fox,
possum, raccoon chime ra, an organism that is a combination of multiple different
organisms, in the 1950s. People have said to have seen it suck the blood out of
small animals and livestock (Radford mys tery ). The chupacabra got its name from
a combination of two Spanish words, these words are chupar meaning to suck and
cabra meaning goat (Lusted

Another type of acquisition is a reverse merger, a deal that enables a private
company to get publicly listed in a relatively short time period. A reverse merger
occurs when a private company that has strong prospects and is eager to raise
financing buys a publicly listed shell company, usually one with no business and
limited assets. The private company reverse merges into the public company, and
together they become an entirely new public corporation with tradable shares.
Regardless of their category or structure, all mergers and acquisitions have one
common goal: they are all meant to create synergy that makes the value of the
combined companies greater than the sum of the two parts. The success of a merger
or acquisition depends on whether this synergy is achieved.
Motives behind M A
These motives are considered to add shareholder value:
В•Economies of scale: This refers to the fact that the combined company can often
reduce duplicate departments or operations, lowering the costs of the company
relative to theoretically the same revenue stream, thus increasing profit.
В•Increased revenue/Increased Market Share: This motive assumes that the company
will be absorbing a major competitor and thus increase its power (by capturing
increased market share) to set prices.
В•Cross selling: For example, a bank buying a stock broker could then sell its
banking products to the stock broker s customers, while the broker can sign up the
bank s customers for

1. What does Ender learn through his relationship with his brother Peter? Ender
learns about hatred through his relationship with Peter. From his experience with
Peter, Ender also learns how he does not want to behave even though Ender shares

Ender eventually explodes from holding in his anger and unleashes his violence, just

Separating Peace By Character In John Knowles A
Separate...
Separating Peace Character By Character A Separate Peace is a novel based
around a group of high school boys in a private college preparatory school named
Devon. Most of Devon s students want, have, or search for peace throughout their
time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and
discovers their peace. The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas in
Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John
Knowles chose this title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace.
Each character in A Separate Peace naturally had their own peace and each chose
either to embrace their inner peace or to fight against it. The character Leper was a
quiet, odd man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That would be Gene s odd peace appearing to have the need of being top dog and
having no rivalries, and being rid of anyone he could even have an inkling of
jealousy against. In the text he says, ... I couldn t help envying him (Finny) that a
little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best
friend a little. This quote was when Finny did not get in trouble at the Master s Tea
for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it. This was
when the rivalry between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really
only one sided (Finny had no thoughts pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare
peace. I hardly ever see where someone finds peace by envying and wanting major
personal competition with their close friends. The full picture of Gene s peace
included being top dog, doing the best in school, aiming for valedictorian, and
having no opposition from anyone else. Most inward peace hinges on upbeat
feelings, but Gene s character is different. His self peace came only after he had
gotten rid of the one person he was jealous of and was completely rid of any anger or
hatred. It is stated in the novel, My fury was gone, I felt it gone, dried up at the
source, withered and lifeless. Phineas had absorbed it and taken it with him, and I
was rid of it

  • 2. The Role Of Power And Power In Jane Eyre Throughout the Victorian Age, male dominance deprived women from freedom of choice. In Charlotte BrontГ« s novel, Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre repeatedly struggles to become an independent young lady due to the troublesome men in the story. There are several male characters who control, humiliate, and abuse their power over Jane. The author manages to depict patriarchal dominance through the characterization of John Reed, Mr. Brocklehurst, and Mr. Rochester. In the novel s exposition, Jane Eyre, a ten year old child, begins to face gender injustice by his cousin, John Reed. In In the Window Seat: Vision and Power in Jane Eyre, Peter J. Bellis states, John Reed claims the house and its contents as his . . . (641). He exerts authority on her simply because he is a male by abusing and bossing her, making it seem as if he owns her. The situation starts holding Jane back as a female, leaving her defenseless, as the powerless victim of its oppressive force (Bellis 641). John greatly contributed to Jane s suffering as a child, by abusing the power he had over her. She speaks of how John harshly demanded of her, saying, I want you to come here; and, seating himself in an armchair, he intimated by a gesture that I was to approach and stand before him, referring to him as master (4). The simple act of her needing to call him master demonstrates the dominance he possesses. He deprived her of freedom such as simply reading a book by controlling her life at a young age, and it
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Rodent Removal Rodents are a problem in homes across the world. Mice and rats are the most common invaders. They re attracted to the prospect of easy shelter and food. You may also find yourself up against squirrels that view attics as protected nesting areas. Still, it s troubling when you discover evidence of rodent activity in your home. It s not just the violation of your food or the need to sanitize areas where you find rodent droppings. Rodents carry diseases that humans can catch, such as hantavirus and leptospirosis, which makes them a threat to your whole family. If you re up against an infestation, you have a number of rodent removal options open to you. Let s take a close look at some of the things you can do for proper rodent removal. Traps and Poison Traps and poison are widely employed rodent removal solutions, but there are some things to consider. You have a choice between several types of lethal traps. There are electric traps that kill with a high voltage charge. Glue traps simply keep the mouse stuck in place and it dies from starvation or dehydration. Snap traps break the mouse s neck. These come in both an open and closed style. The closed style traps are better for homes with pets and kids, since paws and fingers can t get caught by the spring loaded bar. If rodent killing just isn t your speed, you can also opt for a humane trap. Pro tip: take the trap far from your home before releasing any mice. That prevents them from coming straight back inside. Poisons
  • 4. Australia s International Relations Between Australia And... Today Australia is one of the most ethnically diverse societies in the world. Almost one in every four Australian residents was born outside of the Australian boarders and many more are first or even second generation Australians. These children and grandchildren would have recently arrived as migrants or refugees, But in the ninetieth and twentieth century, Migration was not accepted the same way. Australia had various laws that aimed to keep people who were from non european backgrounds out of the country. These laws also restricted the lives of people who were not white and were already currently living in Australia. The ImmigrationAct 1909 most popularly known as the White Australia Policy which caused upset within Australia s international relationships with Britain and Japan. This caused other nations to criticise Australia s racial views and eventually immigration restrictions were gradually loosened and Australian s began to be less fearful of people from a wide range of different countries and backgrounds. The big push for the Immigration Act 1901 in the first place was due to Australia s fear of Asian migration and population take over. The White Australia Policy was an immigration policy perused in Australia between 1901 and the late 1960 s to exclude non European migrants. In the 1850 s large numbers of gold seekers came from South China to try their luck in Victoria, Australia. By 1861, the Chinese community had taken up 7% of the Victorian
  • 5. Sex Roles and Gender Bias in Early Childhood Education... Sex role stereotyping and gender bias permeate everyday life. Children learn about sex roles very early in their lives, probably before they are 18 months old, certainly long before they enter school.(Howe, 1). The behaviors that form these sex roles often go unnoticed but their effect is immeasurable. Simple behaviors like: the color coding of infants (blue pink), the toys children are given, the adjectives used to describe infants (boys: handsome, big, strong; girls: sweet, pretty, precious), and the way we speak to and hold them are but a few of the ways the sex rolesare introduced. These behaviors provide the basis for the sex roles and future encouragement from parents and teachers only reinforce the sex roles. Toys, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In literature research, the boys of children s books are active and capable, and the girls passive and in trouble (Howe,2). In a mental health study conducted by Inge K. Broverman at Worcester State Hospital in Massachusetts, it was discovered that the qualities more considered healthy were those that are stereotypically male behaviors. Women exhibiting these socially desirable behaviors were; however, not considered healthy. Socially desirable male behavior Includes: aggression, independence, logic, confidence and ambition. Female behavior was passivity, dependence, cooth and empathy (Howe, 3). It has also been observed that despite any noticeable differences, girls are provided with fewer experiences even in kindergarten (Howe, 5). The junior high school and high school programs further accentuate the sex roles. Courses such as shop, metalworking, home economics and typing often have gender requirements (Howe, 6). Another school arena for open sexual discrimination is physical education. The boys are often given priority in terms of equipment, gym availability and funding for athletic activities (Howe,6). Howe continues to discover more and more ways
  • 6. Social Issues In The 1970s The new era of television was in full action with the introduction and production of relevancy television shows; these shows no longer hid from social problems and injustices, but rather used the world around them to create relevant and slightly more complex storylines. Shows like Chico and the Man and Mary Tyler Moore Show were examples of how televisionin the 1970s looked at social issues in spheres that had been previously ignored by network producers and became platforms that allowed the spread of information to the public about social, economic, and political struggles of minorities and women. Even though the 1970s demonstrated a new and different mindset when compared to the programming that had been broadcasted in the 50s, these progressive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chicano/a activist gained a victory with the creation of Chico and the Man, as a Latino man was made a protagonist of a Primetime television show. Even as Chico and the Man was rallied for giving the Latino community a platform to voice their concerns and lives, the writing team consisting of white men, inadvertently denied the show to authentically express Latino problems. While the show did touch did touch upon social injustices, these problems were written by men who had not experienced them, therefore causing one community (white) to create an indemnity for another (Chicano). The show focused on issues that existed in the Chicano/Latino community, but it also belittled racial slurs that the main character Chico faced in order to achieve the ideological balancing act. The show could be presented to a greater audience by having Ed, the man, insult Chico because it continued the rhetoric strategic of shows from the 50s. Chico and the Man had both a stance against discrimination, shown by Chico s speech to the officers, and expressed discrimination, seen in Ed s racist remarks, due to this ideological balancing

  • 11. John Donne s Poetry John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics. Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of Donne s

  • 14. Discussion Of Inclusion Research Results and Discussion This research explored the perception of teachers in relation to the concept of inclusion. The finding revealed a range of issues that illustrate how the concept of inclusion has been interpreted by teachers. Determining the concept of inclusion and its benefits In this study, inclusion was not solely about the inclusion of a single child or children with disabilities or SEN. Rather it was built on the belief that all should benefit from access to the same educational experience. An experience as this teacher says should enrich their lives, Inclusion is giving everyone, regardless of ability/disability, gender, background, religion, culture, equal opportunities to access all parts of school life, not just academic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way of defining the differences between inclusion and integration is for inclusion to happen the environment changes to fit the child s needs while integration is the child has to change to fit into the environment. Unfortunately, this again does not translate well into practice. A teacher referred to an autistic pupilwho was reluctant to complete his work unless the subject was of interest to them. The teacher said they had written this in the pupil s school report home. Furthermore, a teacher commented on a pupil who always took his jumper off without permission (school policy is to ask teachers permission to remove jumper) and no matter how often she told him or punished him he would state that he was hot and he had to take his jumper off. Further questioning revealed the pupil was autistic. The problem for teachers appears to be if one pupil is not conforming to the norms and rules the other pupils will not conform and follow the rules. The teachers expressed the feeling of walking a tightrope trying to balance between accommodating the needs of the SEN pupil with keeping law and order with the rest of the class. One concern raised was that if the other pupils witnessed the SEN pupil not conforming then this might single them out to the rest as being different and this might hinder the social dynamic of the

Darry would rather have the gang stay over on their couch than do something foolish. Without a doubt, Darry Curtis can be considered a hero due to the fact that he works hard to keep his family together and to support them. Clearly, Dallas Winston can also be seen as a hero in the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. When Johnny kills Bob, Dally gives him money, a gun, and a safe spot to go. Dally could have saved the getaway location and his back up plan for himself, but he gave it to Johnny. Johnny is one of the only things on earth that Dally loves. Another example that Dally is a hero is that he saves Johnny from the burning church, even though he could die doing it. To save Johnny from burning to death, he runs back into the church, risking his life in order to save Johnny. This is exactly what firefighters and other heroes do. Ultimately, as much trouble that Dally causes, he can be called
  • 16. Mademoiselle Reisz Song Analysis To me, this song is the only one that truly explains Mademoiselle Reisz s rebellious attitude. This song portrays an attitude of not caring what society expects of you, and this is exactly the vibe I get from Mademoiselle Reisz. In which both lead to the key protagonists gaining complete power, and it leading to complete corruption. Macbeth was written between 1603 1606. It was written to please the newly throned King James IV of Scotland. This is evident in the play as Shakespeare shows regicide would have been feasible, but unthinkable to the Jacobean audience, who had lived through the gunpowder plot aimed at targeting King James. Such acts were a concern of that time. Shakespeare is giving a clear message that such acts will only lead to self destruction. In comparison Animal farm, an algory for the Russian revolution was written by George Orwell in 1945. Animal farm follows the role of Stalin in the set of a farm in England. Shakespeare uses repetition of brave to emphasise that Macbeth is well thought of. Because Shakespeare shows Macbeth as brave and is seen as well thought of, it enables him to gain power. Where Macbeth gains realisation that he can be king from the 3 witches telling him about how he will one day be king, thou shalt be king herafter . One way that it is different was that He (John the writer) was writing to both believers and nonbelievers so everybody. Also, he wasn t writing about Jesus life mainly, but how people will have eternal life if people believe in him. While the other Gospels have said multiple times Kingdom of God, John used eternal life more. Another way that the gospelJohn is very distinct from the others is that John includes a lot more of Jesusministry. For instance, all of John 2 4 is for the most part out of the other three gospels. This is the part where Jesus is ministering in Galilee. The author John also is different between the other writers of the other gospels. One thought is that he was actually in Jesus inner circle. This would cause a difference in his writings as well because then he is getting the story directly from Jesus, whereas the others would be getting it from others. Therefore, the others might have gotten revised or slightly different stories. Previously said, we learn different things about Jesus in the Gospel of John that is missed or less clear by the other Gospels. A couple things that are in John that aren t in the other three gospels are all the I am sayings and also His conversation with the Samaritan woman. Another thing that is in the gospel John but not in the others is the washing of the disciple s feet. This is why the gospel of John is so important to be with the others. If the gospel of John was not around, then none of these events would be told to us, and these are all

  • 22. The Cosmological Argument Analysis The early idea of the cosmological argument was developed by two historic philosophers named Plato and Aristotle. The idea of the cosmological argument was to provide the proof of the existence of God. A philosopher named Saint Thomas Aquinas then took this idea and developed it into what he calls his The Five Ways . The five ways that Aquinas provided to prove that Godexisted is by the unmoved mover, the first cause, the argument from contingency, and the argument from degree. The first of the five ways that Aquinas proves that god exists is the idea of the unmoved mover or prime mover . Aquinas believes that all things that are natural are in motion and are finite. Since everything natural is in motion and finite then a first mover must exist. If the first mover or the prime mover does not exist then there would be no other mover and nothing natural would be in motion. The natural things around us are not able to move by their own so the existence of the prime mover is created. Aquinas believes God is the first mover of the universe, unmoved by no one else, which makes God the unmoved mover. God set the universe in motion because nothing moves itself; ... He does not believe in the idea of an infinite cause because that cause can be traced back to the first cause which makes it finite. Since everything is finite then there must be a first efficient cause for itself. Without a first cause there would be no later causes which, therefore means, nothing at all would exist. It is impossible for the first cause to have a cause. Aquinas believes that since the universe exists, then there needs to be a first cause which began all causes, which is why God is the uncaused causer of the

It s important because it is the belief that the earth is the center of the universe. When Guitar attempts to kill Milkman, Milkman s leap toward him left me wondering if they had died. I began to think about the motif of flight and how all the events and people in the novel connect. The African American folktale, The People Could Fly, written by Virginia Hamilton, tells a story of Africans who fly, Africans who escape from the inhumane apparatus of slavery, Africans who achieve freedom. This story connects to the story of Solomon, Macon I s father, Milkman s great grandfather, in the period of slavery. All his life, Milkman had felt alienated and caused pain to those who loved him. Most politicians understand the problems of the ever increasing debt, but actually solving it takes a lot of sacrifice. It would be nice if fiscal education could help solve this problem. Americans always ask Congress for more while paying less. With repealing the Affordable Care Act, for example, the people who are in favor of replacing it ask for more coverage at a lower cost. This more for less attitude causes the Medicare problem where people pull out four times more money than they put into the system. As the Frontline program said, this is unsustainable. If people were aware of the problems that they create with their wants from the government, they might be able to concede giving some of these things up. However, this might not work. Many people find it hard to give up their own benefit for future people. Because of this, it will also require Congress to favor balancing the budget over their popularity. The pay as you go program seemed to work well in the 1990s, and I think implementing it again will allow Congress to be more responsible with their money. Also, some Congressmen should step up and create bills to fix the Medicare and Social Security problems that loom in the future, either by raising taxes or by shrinking coverage. Both measures would be highly unpopular, but it would be responsible to tackle the problem now, rather than push it off for future people to deal

These gamescan get brutal and they Grand Theft Auto is definitely one of those games that can get to be too much for some people. Grand Theft Auto has negative effects on the society because of the foul language, sexual content, exposure to violence, and drugs involved throughout the game. Grand Theft Auto , like many games, has a lot of foul language throughout its gameplay, but it takes it a bit further. The F word gets thrown around every other sentence either after or followed by sh*t and/or b**ch. The civilians are even known to swear at the player for when they feel threatened. Games should not be allowed to be exposing any age group to this much foul language just in a game. The game should not be played by children or anyone who will tend to repeat a word once learned. It may be meaningful to consider how parents and residents of economically disadvantaged neighborhoods might similarly benefit from providing services to local schools. Exosystem Level Partners Benson, Harkavy, Puckett, (2000) suggest that a primary issue that academics and education practitioners should seek to resolve is how democracy is realized in neighborhoods. Inspired by John Dewey, the authors suggest that strengthening local democratic neighborly communities is a way of advancing collaborative relationships. The authors propose that partnering with university supported research programs and academically based community service learning programs is one way of forging democratic and mutually beneficial partnerships between academic institutions and communities. University partnerships within challenged communities have in instances been conceptualized as a means of intervention (Cohen, 2001). However, this intervention has at times resulted in projects which position the university researchers and their service learning programs students as problem solvers, attempting to examine poverty and a community s state of decline, and characterize the residents of the

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qualitative and Quantitative Studies In patients sixty five years and older how does the use of an influenza vaccine contrasted to not obtaining the vaccine reduce their chance of acquiring pneumonia during the flu season? In 2005, pneumococcal disease and influenza were the eighth leading cause of death in the United States and the primary cause of infection related mortality for all age groups (Assaad, El Masri, Porhayman, El Sohl, 2012, p. 453). Vaccinationfor influenza is widely identifiable as one of the most efficient and cost effective public health interventions. (Wheelock, Thomson, Sevdalis, 2013, p. 893). Approximately 90% of deaths caused by these illnesses occur among adults sixty five years of age or older. It is hypothesized that the impairment to the airway epithelial lining triggered by influenza fosters bacterial growth, and that in turn bacterium derived proteases boost virus related virulence. There are several studies that have been established that show vaccinating the population of older patients, aged sixty five and older, has shown a decrease in developing pneumonia during flu season. In a sizable study that included Swedish patients aged ≥ than 65 years old showed that immunization with the flu vaccine resulted in a 29% decrease in the occurrence of all cause pneumonia and a 35% drop in the death rate from all cause pneumonia in the vaccine group. Moreover, patients who were admitted in the hospital for influenza or
