Similarities Between Aluminum Fowl And Superman By Bill...
In his book, Introduction to Documentary, Bill Nichols talks about how documentaries are defined, the
different modes of documentaries, and the ethical issues that may arise when making a documentary.
Nichols talks about how there isn t a set definition for a documentary, but how there are many
different modes of documentary s. We can see examples of these things in the two short documentaries
that we viewed in class. James Clauer s Aluminum Fowl and Cooper s Superman are two
documentaries that use these different modes of documentary filmmaking to inform the viewers of
their subjects. Both documentaries use an observational mode in telling their stories, by letting the
subjects of the documentary take control of telling and showing their

Canada Health Care Essay
Canada s national health insurance program (NHI) was set up under the Medical Care Act of 1966 and
is referred to as Medicare. The Canadian system covers residents through public funding with
spending decisions made at thirteen province levels. (Health Canada 2014) Services covered include
all medically necessary and hospital physician services however each province has the option of
whether to cover supplementary coverage for services such as prescription drug coverage, vision care,
dental care, home care, aids to independent living, and ambulance services. To bridge this gap, about
two thirds of Canadians carry private insurance. (Watson 2009) The Canadian government has
insurance programs for First Nations and Inuit. (Health Canada 2006) ... Show more content on

In 2010, the total waiting time was 18.2 weeks between referral from a primary doctor to delivery of
treatment. Patients awaiting orthopedic surgery had the longest wait time of 35.6 weeks. (Shi 2015)
Patients cannot pay privately for covered medical services to speed up the process as it is against
Canadian law. (Hunter 2005) A famous case involved George Zeliotis who suffered excruciating hip
pain. He was not allowed to pay for his operation privately. A complaint was brought to the Supreme
Court of Canada in 2005 which concluded in Zeliotis favor that Access to a waiting list is not access to
health care. (Chaoulli v. Quebec (Attorney General), [2005] 1 SCR 791, 2005 SCC 35 (CanLII) 2005)
Health insurance is not free in Canada and can cost up to $11,000 for families. Canadians pay
indirectly through taxation for their free health insurance. Costs are increasing faster than the average
income. (Leung 2014) Despite popular belief, not all Canadian enjoy the same levels of health
services. Some regions such as Alberta and Saskatchewan are able to invest more per capita than other
provinces. (Lindenberg 2012) Overall the Canadian health system is costly and while the model works
in theory, the reality is that the system does not work

One Day Of The Life Of Ivan Denisovich By Alexander...
In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the grim nature of Soviet work
camps is depicted in a realistic and relatable way. Throughout the story, the reader must constantly
remind themselves of the timeframe these events occur in. Despite the constant dangers and distress
that Ivan and his work group, 104, deal with throughout the story, this all occurs within one day.
Whether it s prison mates getting their throats slit, or Ivan smuggling in metal to create protection for
himself, they all struggle to survive in this cold unforgiving gulag. In One Day in the Life of Ivan
Denisovich Alexander Solzhenitsyn presents a perspective on the grueling life of Soviet prisoners. He

Luckily he ends up only having to clean the floors of officers in the prison. However, one of the other
prisoners isn t as lucky when he is caught with a flannel vest on underneath his clothes, which is
forbidden. He is sent to three days in the hole, which, according to the other prisoners, could have
easily been avoided by not appearing to be so proud of himself. Which clearly illustrates the depressed
state of all the prisoners. Despite being sick, Ivan isn t able to receive healthcare since the doctor isn t
available and he also still has to work since his fever temperature isn t deemed high enough. His group
is assigned to work in the power station and while he is there he steals a piece of metal to use as a
potential defense weapon later on. Due to the outstanding work done in the power station, Ivan was
rewarded with extra bread and stew, a rare commodity. The wonderment of prisoner s reactions to
ordinary items like tobacco, which one prisoners salvaged from leftover cigarette butts, and dry bread,
shows how deprived they all were from their basic human rights. At the end of the book Ivan is
rewarded for helping a friend hide his contraband and is given a couple of biscuits, in a showing of
comradery. This is an incredibly significant book in Soviet history and Alexander Solzhenitsyn used it
as a way to show the pain and suffering the government had put upon

Thelma And Louise Gender
Section A:
Analyse the treatment of bonds between men and bonds between women in Thelma and Louise
The film Thelma and Louise, directed by Ridley Scott and released in 1991 (Dir. Ridley Scott, 1991),
is a movie that challenges gender expectations. It features two belligerent female protagonists, Thelma
and Louise, who move away from the stereotypical ideas of a woman. Thelma is married to an over
controlling and unappreciative husband who cares not for her, while Louise has relationship troubles
with her boyfriend Jimmy who is always away. Rather than staying at home waiting for their men to
return home and tell them what to do, the women travel away together, releasing their oppressed
freedom and finally feeling happy. The women show that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Flexibility In Duty Hour
This article is about discussing weather or not limiting medical residents hours would be harmful for
patients. Some argue that sleep deprived clinicians threaten patient safety since medical residents were
originally allowed to work shifts of up to 30 hours straight. However, the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education updated its standards back in 2011, limiting residents in their first years
to work at a maximum of 16 hour shifts or 80 hour workweeks, and others to 24 hour shifts. This
study focuses on a clinical trial on work hours for medical students in residency that argue that there
are conflicts and dangerous for patients and practitioners. The trial was called FIRST, The Flexibility
in Duty Hour Requirements for Surgical Trainees Trial, which was led by Dr. Karl Bilimoria, director
of the surgical outcomes and quality improvement center at Northwestern University s Feinberg

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Negotiation
Negotiation could be seen in any aspects, any activities of our real life. Negotiations happen when
there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is
simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is
required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then
come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self assessment is the first
and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is exploring my past
experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing so. As mentioned
earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can negotiate at home, in
our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. The participants, the interests,
the motivations of each party vary from case to case. Sometimes we have time to prepare for the
negotiation, sometimes we are just pushed to do it. Sometimes you are totally aware that ... Show

I acknowledge that I have got a lot of weaknesses in negotiation. More specifically, I often conduct
negotiation without collecting sufficient information about the situation and developing a clear
negotiation strategy. Let me take my aforementioned annual salary review as an example. I did not
fully understand our company s salary review policy (actually, the top executives tried to complicate
the salary policy and was not transparent about it). Besides, I did not carefully consider the timing of
the negotiation, or to which level of salary increase could my boss make decisions and to which level
he had to get his superiors approvals. Consequently, I did not know what and how to talk with my boss
about this topic in an effective manner. I just let my boss to decide my salary increase on his own and

According to Thomas Murray, performance enhancing drugs in sports can have the potential to cause a
public health catastrophe. People should realize Steroids and stimulants have caused problems in the
Olympics for decades (Murray). With the use performance enhancing drugs being so widespread the

The Transformation Of The Flappers In The 1920 s
In the age before the Roaring Twenties, women were still repressed and followed a strict dress code.
They wore long dress that came down to their toes, waists were cinched and arms and legs were
covered. However, in the 1920s, new generation for women begun. Trendy young women in Western
area were nicknamed the flapper. Flappers had a whole new style. They had short haircuts called
bobbed hair, wore short skirts and wore heavy makeups. The Flappers image consisted of drastic to
some, shocking changes in women s clothing and hair. Nearly every article of clothing was trimmed
down and lightened in order to make movement easier. (Rosenberg) Not only they had a whole new
style, but they had whole new attitudes and behaviors too. Flappers drank, smoke, drove, enjoyed jazz
music, and had casual sex. They were symbol of women s freedom and liberation, as well as the
symbol of change in women s life and attitudes towards the social norms expected from women.
The term flapper first appeared in England as a popular slang to describe young girls. By the 1890s,
the word flapper was emerging in England as popular slang both for a very young prostitute, and in a
more general and less derogatory sense of any lively mid teenage girl. (Wikipedia) The term flapper
stuck and emerged in the United States during the Roaring Twenties, representing young, liberated
women. Many authors and artists used the term and even serious newspaper such as The New York
Times reported about

Alison In The Canterbury Tales
The character Alison in the Wife of Bath of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is an independent woman
who dictates what she wants with her life. Although the controversy still remains to this day about
whether or not she is a revolutionary feminist, she is clearly ahead of her time. In that time period, an
ordinary woman who portrayed herself the same way that Alison does would have been looked upon
negatively seen as a harlot even. Seeing how Alison conducts herself with such confidence and
lustiness , I believe that she is truly a feminist.
Sadly, the use of the word feminist had tended to bring a bitter taste in the mouth and mind in the past,
however, our modern day culture has managed to bring the true meaning of feminism to light, and ...

Essay On Should Canada And The United States Have A Mixed...
Should Canada and the United States have a common economic system with little government
involvement? Canada and the US should not have a common economic system with little government
involvement. Having a mixed economy is better in many ways. In a mixed economy, not only do you
get all the benefits of a market economy, you also get a couple of other benefits. In a mixed economy,
there are public services and programs provided, a good mix of competition and cooperation, and the
government can control and regulate the means of production. In a mixed economy, the government
can intercede in the places of need. This can help reduce issues like unemployment, poverty, and can
help with making sure everybody is getting the care and programs that they need. In a mixed
economy, we are provided with public schooling, Welfare programs, free health care, employment
insurance, pension, child tax credit and we are even fortunate enough to be provided with small things
such as recycle and garbage pick up. Having things like public schooling makes sure that children get
the education they need in a safe and enjoyable environment, which will have allowed them to have a
positive learning experience and hopefully one day be able to contribute to our economy as well. With
that being said, homeless people are also provided with welfare programs, more job opportunities and
shelters that they can go to which will help provide them with a brighter future. All of theses things

Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
Dantès is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape
from their creations. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same
person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a
female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question
here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The
Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my
creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ...

When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll
and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or
left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is
constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s
point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s
perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written
from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by
society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised
in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s
view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can
said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the
Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from
society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s
distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance
stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his
own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the
Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this,
however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a

The skeletal system which performs important function such as support, movement, blood cell

which is composed of the brain and the spinal cord, and consists of PNS which are the main control

For instance, the nervous system sends signals to the skeletal muscle to contract which causes the
skeletal system to react and move.
Osteoporosis a disease in the skeletal system was founded by a French pathologist in the early 1800s

Neil Shusterman s Unwind
Unwind was a book filled with sass, adventure, and daring escapes. I give it a four point five stars out
of five. The character development was phenomenal and the main female protagonist was great
without being too annoying. But the ending, I feel, was a flop. It was building up to this huge climax
and it just didn t feel that exciting when it happened. Other than the ending being a flop this was a
great book and I feel that more people should read Neil Shusterman s books because his books are

Harrison Ford is a great actor and he s old enough to fit the bill for the Admiral. Harrison Ford is a
grumpy little cinnamon roll in real life so I think he would do good depicting a fictional grumpy
cinnamon roll. The Admiral s third rule is that, my way is the only way (Shusterman 197), and
Harrison Ford s characters all have that sort of vibe and he plays that role quite well. The Admiral
fought in the civil war and has seen the horrors of battle, in this line it says I fought in the Heartland
War. The scars you so impertinently assumed were transplant scars came from a grenade (Shusterman
222). The Heartland War took place many years before the events in the book take place and Harrison
Ford is around the age of seventy two, so it seems like they d be around the same age.
I also really like Logan Lerman as Connor. Even though they screwed up the Percy Jackson movies, I
still really liked Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson and Connor reminded me of Percy Jackson in
mannerism and in looks. When Connor just randomly says nice socks (Shusterman 101), it reminds
me of something Percy would have done. For me, Percy will forever be Logan Lerman so Connor just
ended up looking like Logan Lerman. Connor is described as having brown eyes on the first page and
Logan Lerman has blue eyes but I think that s a miniscule detail. He could always wear contacts if it

The Influence Of Zionism On The Creation Of A Jewish State
Zion
Since biblical times Jewish communities lived in Arab lands, in Persia, India, East and North Africa
and indeed in Palestine. However more modern times have seen them as a nomadic people, living in
various countries but never truly finding a land to call there own. In the late 19th and early 20th
century an idea began to gain solidarity and momentum, that of Zionism. The idea of Zionism, to
create a Jewish state, is arguably one of modern society s most polarizing and influential movements.
Zionism has influenced political, religious, and social groups in a variety of ways that culminated in
the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.(Cohen, week 10) The term Zionism, as it is understood
today, began to be used significantly by the political activist Herzl. Herzl was driven to action
following the event of the infamous anti Semitic Dreyfus affair in which a Jewish/French officer was
wrongly accused of spying for Germany. This led Herzl to believe that anywhere the Jews went they
would be unfairly persecuted. Herzl s solution, create an independent Jewish state. To realize his goal
Herzl began to look to political, religious, and social groups to garner support for his cause. (Cohen,
Week 10) The global political landscape is fickle and has a habit of mutating and evolving in strange
ways. The view of Zionist movement was hardly unaffected by these rapid changes in political
mindset and agenda. Pre World War 1 era saw a primary anti sematic Europe, from Frances

Political Influence Of The Gang Of Four Essay
In October 1st 1949, after 8 years war of resistance against Japan, The people s Republic of China was
founded by the lead of Chairman Mao, which we call the New China . After 1949, China has been
through many political movements. The most famous movements among others were the ideological
transformation movement; great proletarian cultural revolution; The smash of the gang of four and the
reform and opening up policy, etc. All the articles or books I have read explains those movements
from a different angle. In the following section, I will explain the specific movement in two ways the

The Political Influence of Feminism the smash of the gang of four
In the Chinese high school history book, we always learned that the culture revolution was

Cultural Revolution, called the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution , is a movement by Mao Zedong
s order and launched by the counter revolutionary groups, which brought the serious disaster to the
party, the state and the people of all nationalities. (Here is my personal translation of the Chinese text)
So, who are the counter revolutionary groups? We never talked specifically on this subject in the

Theme Of Change Over Time In Fahrenheit 451
The change over time is amazing. The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It
cannot be changed without changing our thinking. People change as the world around us changes but
it s those people who learn the history are the ones who change the world for the better. Past affects
the future. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury the author, explains how one person who lives in the
present without knowing the past and works as a fireman can be so obvious to the real world. Montag
changes over time because of Mildred and a lady who sets herself on fire, Montag then destroys his

Sculpting Vs Michelangelo
During the Renaissance sculpting was becoming popular. Artist took upon the challenges of creating
magnificent sculptures that today are admired by many. At that time if an artist was able to create a
beautiful sculpture then that artist will become a well known artist. Sculpting is indeed a difficult and
time consuming type of art. It took an artist sever months to several years to create a masterpiece. One
of the most famous person to sculpture during the Renaissance was David. David was a heroic
character in the biblical stories. He became famous because at a young age David killed the giant
goliath. David indeed was a heroic character that inspired many of the Renaissance artists to create
masterpieces. Two of the most famous David s that were ever created were the ones that Donatello and

human like characteristics for example, the muscle tone and the face expression. Meanwhile,
Donatello s sculpture does not have the same qualities. Another difference that I saw between the two
David s is that Michelangelo s is not standing on goliath s head while Donatello s is standing on it. A

Women Coping with Breast Cancer Essay
Women Coping with Breast Cancer
Coping has been closely connected to stress; it involves a process by which a person attempts to
restore balance in response to a stressful life event (Henderson, Gore, Davis, and Condon, 2003). The
most common cancer among Canadian women in 2010 is breast cancer. An average of 445 Canadian
women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an average of 100 Canadian women will die of breast
cancer every week (Canadian Cancer Society, 2010). Coping with breast cancer has been defined as
being emotionally and physically challenging for women and their families (Henderson et Al., 2003).

Coping With Possible Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Description of the literature. The first theme to be reviewed was coping with possible breast cancer
diagnosis. The article was written by Sigrunn Drageset and Torill Lindstrom (2005), it examined the
relationship between demographic characteristics, social support, anxiety, coping and defence among
women with possible breast cancer. This study entailed a quantitative, non experimental, cross
correlational survey: The investigators used a self administered questionnaire from a convenience
sample. The sample size consists of 117 women between the ages of 25 to 76 years with possible
breast cancer who had undergone a breast biopsy under local anesthesia.
Literature findings. The key findings from this study were patients with a reasonably good educational
background cope best while waiting for a possible breast cancer diagnosis. They received social
support from relationships described by attachments. A number of poorly educated, unemployed, and
single or divorced, widowed women typically used a cognitive defensive coping style. People that
utilized a defensive hostile coping style tend to receive poor social support, and thus, they are the most
in need of professional support from nurses.

Personality Assessment Of Carl G. Jung And Isabel Briggs...
Personality Assessment Paper After completing the assignment for this week, I found that I am of the
introverted, sensing, thinking, and perceiving (ISTP) personality type. This personality type from the
work of Carl G. Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers more commonly known as the Myers Briggs type
indicator suggest a few factors in my personality. The first of these is introversion. Even though this is
often thought of as being a quite type or wallflower, the picture is incomplete. Introversion from
MBIT means dealing with ideas and reacting to those ideas in one s own mind. For the introverted the
large group is less desirable then working alone or with a handful of people they fell comfortable
around. The second marker of the ISTP is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identifying strength and weakness in any individual is just that, an individual thought. Because people
with an ISTP personality type are drawn toward the action, tuned in to their environment and prefer to
be hands on, there strengths can be ambiguous. Among these preferences in my personality I have
identified three distinct strengths. The first of these strengths is a natural ability to focus on the
surrounding environment. This connection in day to day physical tasks makes athletics and
coordination between mind and body a relatively easy function. The second trait identifiable in me is
the way I interpret information. With an ability to fond connections between cause and effect, and then
apply logic to decode new information the world becomes less of a mystery and can be explained
through this strength. The third and most prominent strength is in problem solving. Delineating from
other natural talents of observation and focus, getting to the root of a problem is often very easy. This
is especially true when faced with a crisis or emergency situation and taking steps to mitigate the
problem is the most important priority. After selecting two other personality types and identifying
there top three strength it is clear that there are some striking dissimilarities in both the exact opposite
of an ISTP personality which is a (ENFJ) and even types with similarities like the (ESFP). The
extrovert, intuitive, felling, judging type has

The Marketing Pl Paola Amador
III. THE MARKETING PLAN
1. SWOT ANALYSIS
In this section we will cover the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the men s
swimwear line, which also sheds light on the reasons to why this option is chosen.
1.1. Strengths
Paola Amador is the first indigenous Mexican brand that will have the product line in men s
swimwear. Though there are other famous brands like Speedo and Nike that make men s swimwear,
their main focus is on sports outfits and clothing in general rather than trendy swimwear.
Since women in Guadalajara and other large cities in Mexico are already familiar with this brand, it
will be relatively easy for the company to enter the men s swimwear category. Women who know the
brand will recommend it to men in their family and friends circle. This will lead to word of mouth
marketing in the beginning and hence help create a positive customer perception immediately at the
introduction stage.
The company can use its existing production facilities for manufacturing women s swimwear in the
production of men s swimwear. The existing swimwear line for women are hand sewn in order to
ensure the highest level of comfort. The brand has a strong social media presence (which it uses as a
medium for selling), giving it a platform to better create awareness of the new product line.
1.2. Weaknesses
The brand symbolizes women s swimwear and hence, the designer may or may not be able to translate
her existing skills to the requirements of the men s fashion

Once the computer had restarted and everything was running as normal again, it was time to relaunch

Key Trends Of Av Technology For Schools
3 Key Trends in AV Technology For Schools is an article written by Dennis Pierce. The article was
published in June of 2015, and was published in the T H E journal. The T H E stands for
Technological Horizons in Education. In 3 Key Trends in AV Technology for Schools, Mr. Pierce
discusses multiple ways in which technology has evolved, and how it is benefiting the classroom. He
also discusses in great detail the multitude of devices, and how they are being put to use to increase
and improve the learning environment. Because active learning environments are on the rise, more
and more teachers are looking for new and exciting ways to teach their students. Students are
contributing more to discussions and presentations, and the old ways of just having a teacher stand in
the front of the class and lecture are waning.(p.23) In the next few paragraphs I will discuss the three
key trends that have been moving the ever evolving world of technology in the classroom forward in
leaps and bounds. The first key trend that Mr. Pierce talks about in the article are interactive displays
and projectors. Interactive projectors and displays hit the market in 2009, and they have rapidly
become prevelant in classrooms across the country. Between 2013 and 2014 almost 86 thousand
interactive projectors and displays were sold. Linda Norton of PMA Research firm explains that most
of these were sold to schools with grades K 12, and she also believes that the amount of these

The Gvpd Incident
After spending time thinking about the incident that took place on Thursday, August 25, I found there
were many things that I wish I would have done differently that I started to take for granted after being
an RA for a year. First, I just assumed that the residents would know it would not be okay to drink
openly in front of us even though we were not technically their RA s anymore. We should have asked
before hand if they had plans on drinking that night and if so, ask if they could please wait until we
leave. Secondly, since we had no idea of their plans at the time we should have instantly left as soon
as we first saw the alcohol rather than be nice and say bye to each of them. Lastly, the incident took
place so fast, I wish we would have had Officer Barns make us blow through the Breathalyzer just to
confirm the fact that we weren t drinking, but it when he told us to leave right away we just did as told
and left right away. I wish we had the opportunity to live the night over again, because if we did, I
know for a fact we would not have be in the apartment when GVPD showed up. Since the incident, I
have definitely been more mellow as far as just hanging out in my room and not wanting to even take
the risk of going out on the weekends, not even out to the bars, now that I m 21. After the incident

important that HRL doesn t just use a one size fits all type of approach to discipline because similar to

reads I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore, strike off their heads and
strike off every fingertip of them (Quran 8:12) The problem with this is that the Quran is still followed

Female Phenotypes
There are many cases of natural gender transformation in human populations that have been reported,
particularly in the Caribbean islands of North America, however the National Institutes of Health
(NIH) have reported some cases in Turkey, Egypt and Papua New Guinea. Some males with female
phenotypes at birth begin to develop physical male characteristics when they hit adolescence. This is
commonly known as Guevedoces, which is translated to mean penis at age twelve, or machihembras
meaning first a woman, then a man (1). These individuals are born with an XY genotype with both of
their sex chromosomes intact. It is the Y chromosome that releases testosterone up to eight weeks into

Testosterone signals to developing germ cells and then can be translated directly to changes in gene
expression, known as the traditional pathway. Another way is testosterone can activate kinases to
maintain spermatogenesis which is known as the nontraditional pathway. In the absence of
testosterone, spermatogenesis does not proceed beyond the meiosis stage. The traditional testosterone
signaling pathway starts off with the testosterone diffusing through the plasma membrane to bind with
the androgen receptors (AR). The receptor then undergoes an alteration in conformation which
activates receptor proteins in the cytosol. AR is then able to translocate to the nucleus where it binds to
androgen response elements. It is after this that the androgen response elements and the receptors can
alter the expression of genes to change cellular function. The non classical kinase activation pathway
is when testosterone interacts with the androgen receptor then activate Proto oncogene tyrosine protein
kinase, Src, which is a non receptor tyrosine kinase protein (3). This activation of Src causes the
activation of the EGF receptor via intracellular pathway. The EGF receptor then activated the MAP
kinase cascade through Ras resulting in activation of RAF and MEK then later ERK (3). Once these
are activated, they turn on the genes that control male sex characteristics These steps are critical to
maintain spermatogenesis and male

Catullus Masculinity
Liam Connerly Professor Aislinn Melchior Latin 201 26 October 2015 A Skewed Perception of
Masculinity in Ancient Rome Catullus 16, A Reply to My Critics is a poem written by the Roman poet
Gaius Valerius Catullus that was deemed so obscene it was not published in its entirety in English
until the latter part of the 20th century (Winter). To give the poem some context, this aggressive
rebuttal was addressed to two men, Furius and Aurelius, who are also referenced to as Catullus critics
he is replying to. These two men tend to appear in other poetry by Catullus, where he, again, employs
the use of abusive language at them. These rather intrusive retorts are based on the Roman contructs of
masculinity, as Catullus exhibits the need to portray a dominating demeanor upon his critics in order
to deny the claims of Aurelius and Furius, that the nature of his poetry is mollis, meaning soft and
tender , which esstenially makes Catullus mollis. Because of these accusations, he himself is made
effeminate by these criticsims and therefore feels the need to combat these views by aggressive attacks
that fortify a perceived masculine persona. Therefore, this poem serves is an attack on these
demeaning criticisms and a demonstration of social norms on skewed portrayals of masculinity within
the Roman society. The intricate way in which Catullus employs a particular dual resistance on the
homologies in his society suggests can be demonstrated by a careful examination

Essay on Racism in Children s Literature
For my research project I chose the topic of Racism in Children s Literature. I chose this area of study
because it is something that bothers me and I know as a child in school I was very uncomfortable with
assignments that dealt with racism. One day I would like to make a difference to all the people who
are affected by racism. My hypothesis states that if educators are better trained to deal with the
delicate subject of racism in children s literature, books would not be banned, yet actually teach the
lesson the authors of these books intended for all of us to learn. During an International Board on

There has been a move by many to ban these books, but is that really the answer to the problem? As a
mother, secure in my belief, I want my children to read these books. I want my children to be angry, to
form their own opinions based on what they read, to understand what people in other times were put
through, and most importantly, I want them to understand who wrote these books and why they were
written. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has over two hundred references of the N word.
However, Ernest Hemingway said, All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark
Twain called Huckleberry Finn. It s the best book we ve ever had. These angry words full of hatred
were called the best by one of the most known authors in the world, why? I read this book in high
school myself. I served many afterschool detentions because I refused to read aloud the words of hate.
I did not connect to it then, yet as I have aged I believe it was the way the book was taught. Why did
my teacher not tell us more of the background of Mark Twain? Mark Twain was not a racist, yet it
took me many years to realize that. I finally found a respect for him that I should have known before I
turned that first page. Even though the book has many racial slurs, it shows that not just a friendship,
but a strong bond could be formed between a young white boy and a black man. They hain t no right

Personal Counseling Characteristics
My Personal Counseling Characteristics Capuzzi, Stauffer, and Gross (2016) highlighted the existence
of core conditions identified throughout the counseling literature and research as an essential piece of
the therapeutic relationship (p. 8). Possessing and demonstrating these characteristics and behaviors
strengthen the helping alliance and aid in effectiveness as a counselor when guiding the client to
achieve optimal wellness (Capuzzi et al., 2016). The following narrative outlines characteristics and
behaviors emphasized as strengths necessary when developing a therapeutic alliance with a client and
those acknowledged as potential challenges or weaknesses hindering the development of a therapeutic
alliance. Additionally, explanations are discussed for selected strengths and challenges as well as
strategies to address challenges and weaknesses.
An Area of Strength Warmth as a core concept essential to the helping relationship is regarded as the
counselor s ability to convey genuine caring and concern to clients (Capuzzi et al., 2016, p. 11).
Without this ability to convey warmth as a counselor, the counseling process will not be effective,
especially as I believe warmth is essential to building rapport and promoting an environment in which
clients feel comfortable disclosing intimate details of their lives. After all, a client may be more
reluctant to disclose intimate aspects of their life if they believe that the individual to which they are

Why the Versailles Treaty Failed to Bring Peace and Stability
Why the Versailles Treaty failed to bring peace and stability On June 28th 1919, the Big Three ,
Georges Clemenceau, Woodrow Wilson, and David Lloyd George, on behalf of Great Britain, the
United States, and France, had formulated a peace treaty called Versailles Treaty to end the four year
long First Word War, establishing the famous Versailles System . The purpose of the system is to build
a peaceful world dominated by the victor countries, such as Great Britain, the United States and
France. Therefore, the treaty harshly punished the losing countries, like Germany, Austria, and
Hungary, making them decline in power. Every country participated in the Paris Conference with its

Actually, the decline in power never means the decline in conflict. Suppression and punishment,
without education, can never make a country give up the use of violent in a long time. At the same
time, the pricey compensation aggravates the economic crisis during the Depression period in those
defeated countries, because their economic powers were weaken by the pricey bill. That s the partly
reason why some losing countries, especially German, accepted Fascism, since their economy and
industrial sector experienced economic depression in those years, and their governments were too
weak to stand against the expansion of Fascism. By contraries, countries with powerful economic
resources, like America, protected their democracy and government, getting rid of dictatorship and
Fascism. In the second place, the Versailles Treaty was only a result of compromise for those victor
countries, leaving none of them fully satisfied about the new world order set by the treaty. The bad
negotiation also led to the Appeasement Policy, which indulged the military expansion of German. It
is easily understand the losing countries felt dissatisfied about the treaty for they are unfairly
punished. However, why those victor countries also didn t support the system in many parts? To
answer this question, people need to have a basic knowledge about what are they want to achieve in
the conference. Actually, each country had their own unique perspective of the war, and as

Actions Speak Louder than Words: Allied Response to the Holocaust
The extermination of Jewish people during World War II was a horrific and merciless event that was
effectively stopped by the Allies. Once the Allies became aware of the Holocaust, they immediately
took action to end it. There have been countless suggestions of what the Allies could have done to
prevent the Holocaust, however those would not have been as effective as the solution the Allies had
put in place. Despite arguments that the Allies did not make a strong attempt to saving the Jews, by
putting all their resources into the complete defeat of Nazi Germany, they were essentially doing all

Yet bombing a concentration camp filled with innocent, unjustly imprisoned civilians also posed a
moral dilemma for the Allies. To be willing to sacrifice innocent civilians, one would have had to
perceive accurately conditions in the camp and to presume that interrupting the killing process would
be worth the loss of life in Allied bombings. In short, one would have had to know that those in the
camps were about to die. Such information was not available until the spring of 1944. (Berenbaum).
As mentioned above, without full knowledge of what was going on in the concentration camps until
1944, bombing the camps did not seem like a well thought out idea. Even if the camps were to have
been bombed, the Nazis could have quickly rebuilt them and would have continued to murder the
Jews. Additionally, bombing the railway networks to the camps would have been an even weaker
attempt at ending the Holocaust as those networks could be rebuilt even quicker than the camps could
have (Izrael). Also, bombing Auschwitz might [have provoked] even more vindictive German action
and have caused the Holocaust to have been dragged out for longer, with more lives lost (Berenbaum).
In addition, some people may have been led to believe that the American s were sided with the Nazis
if they were to have killed more Jews in the prospective bombings (Vanden Heuvel). Put differently,

Analysis Of Claude Debussy s Canope
Claude Debussy was a leading composer of the early twentieth century known for his impressionistic
style and use of non traditional scales and tonalities as well as chromaticism. Debussy s Book of
Preludes are some of his most well known and last works for solo piano. Prelude 10, titled Canope in
his Book of Preludes No. 2 was composed in 1913. It is meant to depict an ancient Egyptian city and
Egyptian burial urns. Although only thirty three measures long, and melodically and rhythmically
simple, this piece is harmonically complex and dauntingly beautiful. Several small sections make up
the form of this piece. By comparing each section based on musical elements such as melody,
harmony, rhythm, and texture, and by analyzing elements of 20th century music, such as pitch
centricity and reference collections, we will have a better understanding of this work and how it tells
the story of an ancient world. The piece written at a slow tempo and has a meter of 4/4 throughout. It
has a soft and small dynamic range, moving between pianissimo and piano, and a light texture. The
piece is written with three staves in order to clarify and neaten Debussy s notation. The piece has a B
flat in the key signature, suggesting D minor. The piece mainly centers around the pitch D. Canope
could be considered in ternary form, with section A (mm. 1 7), B (mm. 7 26) and section A (mm. 26

Discuss Strategies That Aid In Reading Comprehension
Chapters 6 through 9 discuss strategies that aid in comprehension. These chapters dive deeper into
strategies that will help a reader s comprehension while thoroughly explaining strategies that should
be implemented in a classroom. One main point is that readers should follow their thinking tracks and
explore their thinking and be able to notice when they are straying away from the meaning of the
reading. It s important that students are able to make connections while they re reading. Another main
point would be that questions help clarify and unlock a deeper meaning while reading. Visualizing and
inferring is an important aspect for reading because it helps aid in understanding. Comprehension
strategies allow readers to know a variety of tools that are beneficial. An inner conversation develops
when readers are aware of their own thoughts and are able to connect their thoughts to the text.
Reading comprehension is an ongoing process of evolving thinking. This idea stood out to me because

The Medicine Bag, AndApache Girl s Rite Of Passage,
What are the steps to maturity? In the short story, The Medicine Bag , Martin, the main character, and
in the video, Apache Girl s Rite of Passage , Dachina, both have similarities and differences in their
traditions teaching them the significance of maturity. In addition, there are advantages and
disadvantages to either reading the text or watching the video. Initially, there are many similarities that
are valued in Martin s and Dachina s Native American traditions. Mainly, both traditions are about the
topic of life and how Martin and Dachina have to go through a process in order to enter adulthood.
Martin and Dachina learn how to become mature by accepting to keep their cultures alive and willing
to do the responsibilities that each of their traditions provide. For example, the author in The Medicine
Bag states, Thank you, Grandpa, I said softly and left with the bag in my hands. That night Mom and
Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the
reservation and put the sacred sage in my bag. This shows how Martin agreed to complete his duty of
putting the sacred sage into his medicine bag, making him responsible. Besides, Great Grandpa had a
difficult journey, which made Martin respect him and not put down the medicine bag. Similarly,
Dachina didn t reject her family s beliefs, since she completed the ritual and also didn t seem careless.

an organization in a more direct way (Newman et al., 2013). A major regional sporting network is
Root Sports, which is a network that provides news for fans, teams, sponsors, etc. A member of the
networking team is Jen Mueller, a reporter for live sporting events, an anchor and a producer for
magazine shows in Seattle, WA (Root Sports, 2016).
After high school Mueller spent her time volunteering and working in the sports field. She worked for
the athletic department, newspaper, broadcast station and also coached swimming. Mueller enrolled at
Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where she majored in broadcasting and journalism and
minored in public policy (Root Sports, 2016). Jen Mueller worked for the college s intermural flag
football team as an official. After officiating for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She stated in an interview that if she had one thing to share with others it was to do every job to the
best of your ability whether it is a little job or a big job because it all will add up in the end (Mueller,
2011). This made a lot of sense to me because all of this reflects on who you are and your integrity
and who you want to become in your career path. Jen Mueller really inspired me due to all of her hard
work and her dedication to the sports environment. Mueller shows that women can compete in the
sports broadcasting world and make a point. Writing, communication, knowledge of the sport, and
disciple are few of many skills that Mueller has. In her blog she talks about working endless hours
such as nights, weekends, and holidays. Jen Mueller talks about how she doesn t count the endless
hours, but she counts the unforgettable experiences that she

The aim of this investigation is to how much mass is needed to require a 10oc temperature change in
order to get an exothermic or an endothermic reaction.
For this practical investigation I will choose to approach it using the thermometer to collect my data.
Step by step instructions
1.) Collect all equipment needed for the practical, Thermometer, boiling tube, 2 substances, distilled
water, measuring cylinder, weighing boat to measure substance, Test tube holders, goggles, lab coat,
spatula, balance scales.
2.) From the equipment you have collected set up the equipment. Measure 20ml of water in the
measuring cylinder and transfer the 20ml of water in the boiling tube. After that measure the start
temperature of the water using a thermometer and read the meniscus at eye level accurately.
3.) Measure the mass of the first substance (0.25g) on the balance scale accurately. Once measured
add the substance into the boiling tube containing 20ml of water and make sure the thermometer is
still in the boiling

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is Caused by the SARS...
The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), a respiratory disease caused by the SARS
coronavirus, hit Hong Kong severely between February and July 2003. SARS was a new type of viral
infection first recorded in China in November 2002. Capable of transmitting through direct contact
with infectious respiratory droplets, the disease spread rapidly across Hong Kong when an infected
doctor visited and died in Hong Kong on 23rd February, 2003. The outbreak of SARS, the first deadly
epidemic of the 21st Century, started from Guangdong, a south province in China in November 2002.
People in Guangdong soon got panic and rushed to shops to purchase vinegar to heat the vinegar at
home and make indoor air humid and acidic. It was hindsight revealed that China s initial response to
the outbreak in Guangdong was slow and lacking transparency. WHO received the information from
China about the infection of SARS only on February 11, 2003, three months later after the first case in
Guangdong. While the international community criticized China for its lack of transparency in its
initial response and attempts to tell the minimum impact of the disease, one fact remained true was
that by that time no body in the world had pre knowledge of the disease and the cause of the disease.
The frustration of knowing so little about the virus, its prevention, treatment and the difficulty of
distinguishing the SARS infection from other known disease infection caused diagnostic delays and
took China some

Railroad Car Advantages And Disadvantages
STRENGTHS
Competitive advantage. The concept of hauling over a hundred railcars with as little as two crew
members allows for a distinct advantage over the trucking industry with regards to fuel and labor
costs.
Space. A large quantity of railcars can be stored in a small area due to track design and the fact that
cars are coupled together in a straight row.
Maintenance costs. While this can also be a weakness, the longevity of assets is typically more than in
other industries. Locomotives can last for 30 40 years with routine maintenance.
Shared Resources. Although railroads compete for business, they also share assets such as
locomotives, trackage rights, and coordinating the labor workforce.
Less impact by globalization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hired in as a railroad conductor and since a locomotive engineer the past few years. They are the 3rd
largest railroad company in the United States behind the Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern
Santa Fe. However, CSX is the largest railroad in the eastern United States just ahead of the Norfolk
Southern. They cover 23 states and part of Canada with approximately 21,000 rail miles in service
(CSX.com, 2018). Currently, the company is in the middle of an operational change with the
installation of railroad legend E. Hunter Harrison who left his position as Chief Executive Officer to
take the same position with CSX at an enormous cost to the company. Mr. Harrison was hired to bring
his precision scheduled railroad philosophy that he championed on two previous railroads. This
initially transformed the company by streamlining the management team which eliminated
approximately 1,000 positions. Many other union jobs were done away with as assets were better
utilized, and many railyards and engine service facilities were shut down. Mr. Harrison passed away
after only 9 months on the job due to an undisclosed illness. His successor Jim Foote was named the

Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in
ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home
after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his
father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the
suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery
throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but
Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him.
Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war
in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and
wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. (Homer 273)
Euralokhos has just told him that a group of his men have been turned to swine by the powerful
goddess, Kirki. Odysseus goes into her home to get his men back even though he, too, could be turned
into a swine as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his men had just sailed past the sirens. They were terrified to go between Skylla, a sea monster
with six heads, and Kyribdis, a giant whirlpool. He consoles his men in book XII, lines 269 273.
Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the kyklops
penned us in his cave? What power we had! (Homer 216) Odysseus faces the danger head on without
showing the fear of his men. They re heading for the most dangerous place they feel they ve been and
he still keeps his

Example Of Prospect Theory
Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known for
its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to
losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference
point.
Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision
theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into
a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve
of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But

Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive
rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a function
of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While procedural rationality
focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory cannot be adapted to the
cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is more similar to the rational
economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in common with cognitive
process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a limitation of the theory but
not a fatal flaw.
Shortcomings of Prospect Theory
a) The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions of
experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to
extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of one
s actions are partially a function of the actions of another.
1) It is extremely difficult in the real world to identify whether an actor selects a particular option
because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility

In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the grim nature of Soviet work camps is depicted in a realistic and relatable way. Throughout the story, the reader must constantly remind themselves of the timeframe these events occur in. Despite the constant dangers and distress that Ivan and his work group, 104, deal with throughout the story, this all occurs within one day. Whether it s prison mates getting their throats slit, or Ivan smuggling in metal to create protection for himself, they all struggle to survive in this cold unforgiving gulag. His group is assigned to work in the power station and while he is there he steals a piece of metal to use as a potential defense weapon later on. Due to the outstanding work done in the power station, Ivan was rewarded with extra bread and stew, a rare commodity. The wonderment of prisoner s reactions to ordinary items like tobacco, which one prisoners salvaged from leftover cigarette butts, and dry bread, shows how deprived they all were from their basic human rights. At the end of the book Ivan is rewarded for helping a friend hide his contraband and is given a couple of biscuits, in a showing of comradery. Negotiations happen when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self assessment is the first and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is exploring my past experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing so. As mentioned earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can negotiate at home, in our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. • 12. Essay On Should Canada And The United States Have A Mixed... Should Canada and the United States have a common economic system with little government involvement? Canada and the US should not have a common economic system with little government involvement. Having a mixed economy is better in many ways. In a mixed economy, not only do you get all the benefits of a market economy, you also get a couple of other benefits. In a mixed economy, there are public services and programs provided, a good mix of competition and cooperation, and the government can control and regulate the means of production. In a mixed economy, the government can intercede in the places of need. This can help reduce issues like unemployment, poverty, and can help with making sure everybody is getting the care and programs that they need. In a mixed economy, we are provided with public schooling, Welfare programs, free health care, employment insurance, pension, child tax credit and we are even fortunate enough to be provided with small things such as recycle and garbage pick up. Having things like public schooling makes sure that children get the education they need in a safe and enjoyable environment, which will have allowed them to have a positive learning experience and hopefully one day be able to contribute to our economy as well. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my creator, but I am your master obey! When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a ... However more modern times have seen them as a nomadic people, living in various countries but never truly finding a land to call there own. In the late 19th and early 20th century an idea began to gain solidarity and momentum, that of Zionism. The idea of Zionism, to create a Jewish state, is arguably one of modern society s most polarizing and influential movements. Zionism has influenced political, religious, and social groups in a variety of ways that culminated in the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.(Cohen, week 10) The term Zionism, as it is understood today, began to be used significantly by the political activist Herzl. Herzl was driven to action following the event of the infamous anti Semitic Dreyfus affair in which a Jewish/French officer was wrongly accused of spying for Germany. This led Herzl to believe that anywhere the Jews went they would be unfairly persecuted. Herzl s solution, create an independent Jewish state. To realize his goal Herzl began to look to political, religious, and social groups to garner support for his cause. Personality Assessment Paper After completing the assignment for this week, I found that I am of the introverted, sensing, thinking, and perceiving (ISTP) personality type. This personality type from the work of Carl G. Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers more commonly known as the Myers Briggs type indicator suggest a few factors in my personality. The first of these is introversion. Even though this is often thought of as being a quite type or wallflower, the picture is incomplete. Because people with an ISTP personality type are drawn toward the action, tuned in to their environment and prefer to be hands on, there strengths can be ambiguous. Among these preferences in my personality I have identified three distinct strengths. The first of these strengths is a natural ability to focus on the surrounding environment. This connection in day to day physical tasks makes athletics and coordination between mind and body a relatively easy function. The second trait identifiable in me is the way I interpret information. With an ability to fond connections between cause and effect, and then apply logic to decode new information the world becomes less of a mystery and can be explained through this strength. The third and most prominent strength is in problem solving. Delineating from other natural talents of observation and focus, getting to the root of a problem is often very easy. This is especially true when faced with a crisis or emergency situation and taking steps to mitigate the problem is the most important priority. After selecting two other personality types and identifying there top three strength it is clear that there are some striking dissimilarities in both the exact opposite of an ISTP personality which is a (ENFJ) and even types with similarities like the (ESFP). Strengths Paola Amador is the first indigenous Mexican brand that will have the product line in men s swimwear. Though there are other famous brands like Speedo and Nike that make men s swimwear, their main focus is on sports outfits and clothing in general rather than trendy swimwear. Since women in Guadalajara and other large cities in Mexico are already familiar with this brand, it will be relatively easy for the company to enter the men s swimwear category. Women who know the brand will recommend it to men in their family and friends circle. This will lead to word of mouth marketing in the beginning and hence help create a positive customer perception immediately at the introduction stage. The company can use its existing production facilities for manufacturing women s swimwear in the production of men s swimwear. The existing swimwear line for women are hand sewn in order to ensure the highest level of comfort. The brand has a strong social media presence (which it uses as a medium for selling), giving it a platform to better create awareness of the new product line. 1.2. Testosterone signals to developing germ cells and then can be translated directly to changes in gene expression, known as the traditional pathway. Another way is testosterone can activate kinases to maintain spermatogenesis which is known as the nontraditional pathway. In the absence of testosterone, spermatogenesis does not proceed beyond the meiosis stage. The traditional testosterone signaling pathway starts off with the testosterone diffusing through the plasma membrane to bind with the androgen receptors (AR). The receptor then undergoes an alteration in conformation which activates receptor proteins in the cytosol. AR is then able to translocate to the nucleus where it binds to androgen response elements. It is after this that the androgen response elements and the receptors can alter the expression of genes to change cellular function. The non classical kinase activation pathway is when testosterone interacts with the androgen receptor then activate Proto oncogene tyrosine protein kinase, Src, which is a non receptor tyrosine kinase protein (3). This activation of Src causes the activation of the EGF receptor via intracellular pathway. • 31. Catullus Masculinity Liam Connerly Professor Aislinn Melchior Latin 201 26 October 2015 A Skewed Perception of Masculinity in Ancient Rome Catullus 16, A Reply to My Critics is a poem written by the Roman poet Gaius Valerius Catullus that was deemed so obscene it was not published in its entirety in English until the latter part of the 20th century (Winter). To give the poem some context, this aggressive rebuttal was addressed to two men, Furius and Aurelius, who are also referenced to as Catullus critics he is replying to. These two men tend to appear in other poetry by Catullus, where he, again, employs the use of abusive language at them. These rather intrusive retorts are based on the Roman contructs of masculinity, as Catullus exhibits the need to portray a dominating demeanor upon his critics in order to deny the claims of Aurelius and Furius, that the nature of his poetry is mollis, meaning soft and tender , which esstenially makes Catullus mollis. Because of these accusations, he himself is made effeminate by these criticsims and therefore feels the need to combat these views by aggressive attacks that fortify a perceived masculine persona. Therefore, this poem serves is an attack on these demeaning criticisms and a demonstration of social norms on skewed portrayals of masculinity within the Roman society. Staying connected through social media allows the consumer to communicate with an organization in a more direct way (Newman et al., 2013). A major regional sporting network is Root Sports, which is a network that provides news for fans, teams, sponsors, etc. A member of the networking team is Jen Mueller, a reporter for live sporting events, an anchor and a producer for magazine shows in Seattle, WA (Root Sports, 2016). After high school Mueller spent her time volunteering and working in the sports field. She worked for the athletic department, newspaper, broadcast station and also coached swimming. Mueller enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where she majored in broadcasting and journalism and minored in public policy (Root Sports, 2016). Jen Mueller worked for the college s intermural flag football team as an official. After officiating for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She stated in an interview that if she had one thing to share with others it was to do every job to the best of your ability whether it is a little job or a big job because it all will add up in the end (Mueller, 2011). This made a lot of sense to me because all of this reflects on who you are and your integrity and who you want to become in your career path. Jen Mueller really inspired me due to all of her hard work and her dedication to the sports environment. Mueller shows that women can compete in the sports broadcasting world and make a point. Writing, communication, knowledge of the sport, and disciple are few of many skills that Mueller has. In her blog she talks about working endless hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays. Jen Mueller talks about how she doesn t count the endless hours, but she counts the unforgettable experiences that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Endothermic Change Lab Report Task 1 Hypothesis By increasing the mass of substance using 20ml of water starting at room temperature there will be 10oc change, either an exothermic change or an endothermic change. Aim The aim of this investigation experiment is to find out what mass of substance is required for an exothermic or endothermic substance to achieve a 10oc temperature change. Set objectives 7 masses of each substance should be used in this experiment: 0g, 0.25g, 0.50g, 0.75g, 1.00g, 1.25g, 1.50g, 1.75g, and 2.00g. Measure the start and end temperature for each substance using a thermometer. Measure the volume of water (cm3). Thermometer should be placed in the water and measure the start temperature of the water. Accurately measure the thermometer readings using the meniscus at eye level for the most accurate results. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim of this investigation is to how much mass is needed to require a 10oc temperature change in order to get an exothermic or an endothermic reaction. For this practical investigation I will choose to approach it using the thermometer to collect my data. Step by step instructions 1.) Collect all equipment needed for the practical, Thermometer, boiling tube, 2 substances, distilled water, measuring cylinder, weighing boat to measure substance, Test tube holders, goggles, lab coat, spatula, balance scales. 2.) From the equipment you have collected set up the equipment. Measure 20ml of water in the measuring cylinder and transfer the 20ml of water in the boiling tube. After that measure the start temperature of the water using a thermometer and read the meniscus at eye level accurately. 3.) Measure the mass of the first substance (0.25g) on the balance scale accurately. Once measured add the substance into the boiling tube containing 20ml of water and make sure the thermometer is still in the boiling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is Caused by the SARS... The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), a respiratory disease caused by the SARS coronavirus, hit Hong Kong severely between February and July 2003. SARS was a new type of viral infection first recorded in China in November 2002. Capable of transmitting through direct contact with infectious respiratory droplets, the disease spread rapidly across Hong Kong when an infected doctor visited and died in Hong Kong on 23rd February, 2003. The outbreak of SARS, the first deadly epidemic of the 21st Century, started from Guangdong, a south province in China in November 2002. People in Guangdong soon got panic and rushed to shops to purchase vinegar to heat the vinegar at home and make indoor air humid and acidic. It was hindsight revealed that China s initial response to the outbreak in Guangdong was slow and lacking transparency. WHO received the information from China about the infection of SARS only on February 11, 2003, three months later after the first case in Guangdong. While the international community criticized China for its lack of transparency in its initial response and attempts to tell the minimum impact of the disease, one fact remained true was that by that time no body in the world had pre knowledge of the disease and the cause of the disease. The frustration of knowing so little about the virus, its prevention, treatment and the difficulty of distinguishing the SARS infection from other known disease infection caused diagnostic delays and took China some ... • 43. Railroad Car Advantages And Disadvantages STRENGTHS Competitive advantage. The concept of hauling over a hundred railcars with as little as two crew members allows for a distinct advantage over the trucking industry with regards to fuel and labor costs. Space. A large quantity of railcars can be stored in a small area due to track design and the fact that cars are coupled together in a straight row. Maintenance costs. While this can also be a weakness, the longevity of assets is typically more than in other industries. Locomotives can last for 30 40 years with routine maintenance. Shared Resources. Although railroads compete for business, they also share assets such as locomotives, trackage rights, and coordinating the labor workforce. Less impact by globalization. ... They are the 3rd largest railroad company in the United States behind the Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. However, CSX is the largest railroad in the eastern United States just ahead of the Norfolk Southern. They cover 23 states and part of Canada with approximately 21,000 rail miles in service (CSX.com, 2018). Currently, the company is in the middle of an operational change with the installation of railroad legend E. Hunter Harrison who left his position as Chief Executive Officer to take the same position with CSX at an enormous cost to the company. Mr. Harrison was hired to bring his precision scheduled railroad philosophy that he championed on two previous railroads. This initially transformed the company by streamlining the management team which eliminated approximately 1,000 positions. Many other union jobs were done away with as assets were better utilized, and many railyards and engine service facilities were shut down. Mr. Harrison passed away after only 9 months on the job due to an undisclosed illness. His successor Jim Foote was named the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him. Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. • 45. Example Of Prospect Theory Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known for its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference point. Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But Tversky and Kahnemen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a function of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While procedural rationality focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory cannot be adapted to the cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is more similar to the rational economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in common with cognitive process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a limitation of the theory but not a fatal flaw. Shortcomings of Prospect Theory a) The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions of experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of one s actions are partially a function of the actions of another. 1) It is extremely difficult in the real world to identify whether an actor selects a particular option because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility ...
