2. The Beginnings Of Cinema United States
2 THE BEGINNINGS OF CINEMA UNITED STATES
The first public screening of a film in the United States took place in 1896 in New York. The
projector was developed by inventor Thomas Alva Edison, whose company was also the producer
of the short films. Fatherhood American fiction cinema is often attributed to Edwin S. Porter, who
in 1903 used an innovative technique mount 8 minute film Assault and robbery of a train by which
different fragments from different shots of the same film was together to form a narrative whole.
This work became film in a very popular art form, and led to nationwide screening rooms appear
small, so called nickelodeones.
David Wark Griffith, a disciple of Porter, developed the principles of this using panoramic and
close up shots, as well as parallel assemblies as a means of expression to maintain dramatic tension,
which became the most important silent film pioneer States United. With his works The Birth of a
Nation (1915) and Intolerance (1916) began the tradition of historical cinema in his country.

4. Spinal Immobilisation Essay
Spinal Immobilisation: A Literature Review
A review of the literature regarding spinal immobilisation has been undertaken using databases
for PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, OVID and Cochrane EBM. Reviews were electronically
searched using the subject headings spinal injuries , spinal immobilisation and management of
spinal injuries . The results generated by the search were limited to English language articles and
reviewed for relevance to the topic. The aim of this literature review is to compare and contrast the
views on spinal immobilisation and to achieve a better knowledge of evidence based practice.

According to Vickery (2001) however, the spinal board is considered to be the gold standard for
spinal immobilisation during the pre hospital phase of trauma management. For some patients,
effective spinal immobilisation is beneficial and can also be vital in preventing the devastating
effects of cord damage however it has been suggested that for many the excessive use of this
preventative measure may not be prudent or necessary. It has been estimated that over 50% of
trauma patients with no complaint of neck or back pain were transported with full spinal
immobilisation (McHugh Taylor 1998). Inappropriate spinal immobilisation may lead to patients
experiencing unnecessary pain, skin ulceration, aspiration and respiratory compromise, which in
turn may lead to further unnecessary procedures, a longer hospital stay which then incurs
increasing costs to the National Health Service (Kwan, Bunn Roberts, 2001). Shooman
Rushambuza (2009) report that immobilisation is a crucial part of the management of a trauma
patient. They believe that if the mechanism of injury is uncertain, the patient should remain
immobilised until further imaging even if there are no symptoms of spinal instability after log
rolling. However, in a recent study by Pandie, Shepherd Lamont (2010) they concluded that on its

5. Similarities Between Cat People And Cat People
Both
Jacques Tourneur s 1942 film Cat People, along with Gunther von Fritsch 1944 follow up, Curse
of the Cat People, remain legendary pieces of artistic restraint. While many horror films of the era
painted their monsters in broad strokes, Both Cat People films play like steady handed
psychological dramas; maneuvering in the shadows with subtle detail and control. While the films
dutifully touch on a wide array of themes, I believe each picture has an overarching theme Cat
People s theme being the fear of women/women s sexual agency and sexual repression, while The
Curse of the Cat People about imagination and parenting. I will be picking scenes from each film
that I feel reinforce these themes.

her fears and live her life. She begins to believe him. In a sense he fixes her by gas lighting her
fears and making her out to be an irrational woman. Once Irena is off balance, he reverts to his

6. Distinguish Between Micro, Mecio And Macro Levels Of Practice
Distinguish between micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice and provide an example for
each. There are various differences between micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice. The micro
level consists of a one on one session with the social worker to strengthen the client s coping skills
and self esteem. The microis based on an individual level referring to the day to day setting
inhabited by the person and people they live with. It focuses on the individual or family. Examples
include finding housing for the individual, healthcare or substance abuse help. It expands as the
person grows. An example would be drawing a diagram with the individual or family being the
focus and everything outside of that circle would be affecting the familyor individual in several
ways. The focus is on the micro level because it pertains to either the individual or the family.
The mezzo level is about the individual s surrounding environment. It pertains to neighborhoods,
schools and other entities. It is about providing services for the neighborhood or community. For
example, the focus may be on making schools aware of certain mental health services and helping
them obtain them.
The macro level is the organization, assumptions, myths, and ideologies of the larger world. The
universe hosting the smaller systems. An example of this would be lobby days; individuals come
together to advocate for a larger scale policy change. Once the change occurs, it will affect
everything within that

Religious and Ethnic Diversity
Mormonism is a uniquely American religion, have been founded by Joseph Smith Jr., of New
York ( The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints , 2013). Mormonism originated in the
1820s, as described by the Church s website, when Joseph Smith Jr. was confused and frustrated
by the various Christian religions and was unable to choose one to follow. He turned to the
Bible, which told him to ask God when he lacked wisdom. So he prayed to God, and was visited
by the Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. According to one of the members of the
governing body of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bruce McConkie (1958),

All ethnicities, at one time or another, have suffered from prejudice at the hands of another ethnic
group.
Most African Americans living in the United Statestoday have ties to slavery, meaning that they are
the descendants of slaves. Following that back even further, a huge majority of the entire
immigration of Black people to the Americas was through the transatlantic slave trade. Throughout
our country s history, Black people have faced discrimination and prejudice, which they have
fought to overcome. The greatest advancement towards overcoming this discrimination was the
abolishment of slavery during The Civil Way. However, being freed did not mean that they were
able to live as freely as other Americans. The battle for other rights and an end to segregation lasted
another century. Even today, discrimination against Black people is all too prolific.
In any case, whether a religious group, a racial group, or an ethnic group, prejudice and
discrimination has the same basic causes. One group attempts to give themselves a better
opportunity through the oppression of another group, or one group lacks understanding in regards
to another group. The only solutions to prejudice is through understanding, critical thinking, and
diversity.

9. The Culture Of National Culture
What is Culture?
Essentially, culture is the set of values, beliefs, rules, and institutions held by a group of people
(Wild and Wild 2016, p.70). Oftentimes, culture is thought of in terms of National Culture. National
Culture is sustained and encouraged by nation states through the construction of monuments,
museums and other buildings, which protect the heritages of significant events and people (Wild
and Wild 2016, p.70). They also play a role in ensuring business decisions preserve cultural
treasures, such as in the case of heritage listed sites or buildings (Wild and Wild 2016, p.70).

Culture is made up of a number of building blocks, which provide a much fuller understanding
than what is distinctly national (Wild and Wild 2016, p.73). These components are: aesthetics,
values and attitudes, manners and customs, social structure, religion, personal communication,
education and, physical and material environments (Wild and Wild 2016, p.73). Values are
ideas and beliefs to which people have an emotional attachment; they affect work ethic and
materialism (Wild and Wild 2016, p.74). Attitudes are influenced by underlying values and are
positive or negative reactions towards ideas or objects (Wild and Wild 2016, p.74). Attitudes are
more flexible than values and often change over time as people mature and have different
experiences. Aesthetics are what a culture considers good taste in the arts. It includes the use of

appropriate ways of dressing, speaking, and behaving in a certain culture (Wild and Wild 2016,

Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history.
To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub
sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century
agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new
knowledge, and farming s influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth
century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I
end my paper with a third section that offers research questions that could be answered in

13. Theories Of Emotional Intelligence
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
INTRODUCTION
Emotional intelligence has to do with an individual s ability to understand and manage his or her
own or others feelings and emotions. It involves the ability to perceive and express emotion,
assimilate emotion in thought, understand and reason about emotion and manage emotions in
oneself and in others. People with emotional intelligence are able to identify and recognize the
meaning of emotions and to manage and regulate their emotions as a basis for problem solving,
reasoning, thinking, and action.
In this write up, attempt is made to provide conceptual clarifications on the subject matter,
Emotional intelligence , an overview of the theories of emotional intelligence, including a brief
discussion about how important the role of emotional intelligence can be in leadership,
performance (both educational and work place settings) and in wellbeing.

To some persons, emotional intelligence is defined as study which looks for human cognitive
abilities beyond traditional academic intelligence, (Zeidner et al., 2004). Researchers have
categorized their definition based on the either an ability model or mixed model. Based on the
Mandell and Phewanti (2003) s ability model, emotional intelligence is defined as a set of abilities
that involves perceiving and reasoning abstractly with information that emerges from feelings (p.
389). Studies of John D. Mayer and Peter Salovey (1997) have supported this model stating that
emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to perceive accurately, appraise, and express
emotion; the ability to access and/or generate feelings when they facilitate thought; the ability to
understand emotion and emotional knowledge; and the ability to regulate emotions to promote
emotional and intellectual growth (p. 35). In addition, Mayer, Salovey, and Caruso (2004) gave the
definition of the emotional intelligence as the capacity to

Deadly Resurrection
As Aeneas stood over the corpse of Turnus, his conscience was split in two. Half of his mind
rejoiced with the death of such a malicious man who had caused so much strife. The other half
lurched at the sight of bloodshed. Aeneas sighed with confusion as he slowly walked away from
the scene. Unlike most of his countrymen, he would never become comfortable with taking life,
even if it were for a just cause. While engaged in such controversial thoughts, his guard relaxed and
his gaze flitted about inattentively. With his mind elsewhere, Aeneasfailed to notice the wind
picking up speed at an alarming pace. Sand was flying about all around him, compromising his
vision. Suddenly, through the howling of the wind, Aeneas heard the words I will be back .

15. The Pros And Cons Of Executive Compensationation
According to Garen (1994) executive compensation is a classical solution of the principal agent
problem in which the separation of ownership and control is the main issue. He explains in his
paper that in every business there are different parties involved with different interests and goals,
and the theory describes the relationship between two parties, principal and agent, where the
principal passes the task to the agent. In this case the CEO is the agent and the principal is the
shareholder of a firm. The attitude of the CEO in a firm is different than that of the shareholders;
therefore shareholders provide equity compensation and other awards to align the interests.

There are several types of equity compensations with variety of impacts on the agents. The stock
compensations and stock options compensations are the most prominent ones. The stock
compensations are awards provided to the agents in stocks of the firms, in this way the
shareholders reward agents by awarding them a part of the equity of the firm. Balsam and Miharjo
(2007) have the belief that stock compensation provides direct link between executive
compensation and shareholders wealth and therefore the interests of a firm s CEO s with those of
its shareholders. Therefore, this type of executive compensation is very effective in aligning the
principal and agent s interest. However, stock compensation has negative side effects, such as an
increase in risk aversion of CEO s. By providing more stocks to a CEO, the risk attitude of CEO
in a firm becomes different than that of the shareholders: whereas CEO s will be loyal with most
of their capital to their corporations trying to avoid risk while shareholders aim is to maximize
their gains, and prefer more risk taking operations. Therefore, it is very important to provide the
right executive compensation to motivate agent (CEO s or executives) to act in the best interest of
the principal (shareholders, debtholders) to mitigate the agency problem created by the provision of

not prevent either William Bradford or the English pilgrims on the Mayflower from setting aside
all fears and taking on the expedition. Contemplating the difficulties of venturing to the new world,
William Bradford set out in search of religious freedom. Numerous factors contributed to his final
decision. Bradford anticipated the journey to be perilous and difficult to accomplish. However, he

His expectations fell short when they experienced poverty and religious disagreements, and the
children were converting to the manners of the Dutch society. Since his expectations fell short
in Holland, Bradford is most likely biased toward the way of life in the New World. He and the
group of Puritans had traveled over water to Holland, but their trip was not as distant as the New
World. Without knowing what was to happen, Bradford automatically assumed the worst. Torn
by the deep yearning for religious freedom, misfortunes in Holland, and possible dangers

journey. Bradford s writing is only limited to assumptions and rumors. Having not actually been
to the new land and have not travelled over the waters, he could only rely on the information he
heard as well as what he had imagined in his mind. As Bradford expressed his concerns and
emotions prior to the expedition, he left out any logical predictions and situations about the new

fear. Bradford s writing is somewhat accurate in how it portrays the influence of anxiety and how
individuals expect the worse of what they do not know. His perspective deeply shows the raw

17. History And Culture Of The Cook Islands
History of Culture
The history behind the culture of the Cook Islands came from the various sources of ancient
migration, and early land settlement. The islands got its name from a British man named Captain
James Cook. He landed on the island in 1773. It was in the 19th century is when missionaries
started to come to the islands. They brought with them many sicknesses as well as churches and
schools to share the gospel. Through this, the island s dominate religion is Christianity.
In the Cook Islands culture, all the islands employed a chiefly system based on traditional legends
of migration and settlement (Cook Islands: Art and Culture). Born to power as chiefs and
inheritors, Polynesian culture before Europe s involvement, falls nothing short to that in
comparison to Greece s heroic period. Like Homer s concept in early 1200 BC, islanders adopted
a similar and identical concept of belief known as, Mana , or power. This concept consisted of:
connection, feasting, dancing, offerings of food, attitudes toward females, and the absence of
individualism (Cook Islands: Art and Culture).
Cook Islands culture is based on family and celebration. Since the Cook Islands are made up of
many smaller islands, it is relevant that Cook Islanders choose to identify first with their individual
island and secondarily with the country as an entirety.

Differing from other regions and their cultures, Polynesian culture is unique due to having their own

19. The First Crusade And The Crusades
As the historian John Riley Smith points out The First Crusade was a violent and brutal episode
during which the crusaders cut out a swathe of suffering through Europe and Western Asia. In this
description of the First Crusade (1095/6 1099) Smith makes it difficult for us to see and, or
uncover any elements of pilgrimage in the crusaders actions. However, there are many different
ways in which the crusadeshave been described, the historian Christopher Tyerman on the other
hand, steers towards the idea that it is reasonable to label the Frist crusade as an armed Pilgrimage
as it showed a defining commitment to the church to accommodate the spiritual aspirations of the
laity . However, it s worth pointing out he labels other less sanctified ways in which the First
Crusadecould be described. The approach to answer the question for this essay will focus mainly
on whether the Crusaders joined and embarked on the First Crusade with the belief of it
representing an armed pilgrimage, as it seems important to focus on the origins of the crusades
in order to answer why it may be perceived so, after all every pilgrimage must start from
somewhere. However, in answering this question it s also important to consider other factors
such as the role of Pope Urban II, who has been labelled by some historians as playing a pivotal
role in crusaders participation and therefore the creation of the First Crusade and why it could be
perceived as an armed pilgrimage, or whether an

21. Globalization Is A As A Popular Expression
Globalization is a term that became a popular expression in the 1980 s. Its use describes the
amplified movement of people, knowledge, ideas, goods and money across national borders that
leads to increased interdependence among the world s populations politically, publicly and
culturally. Canadais one of the most globally integrated countries in the world. Our society is
comprised of a highly advanced system of communication and information technology, contains a
government that is dynamic in universal organizations, an economy that is reliant on trade, a
population that travels abroad regularly, and a society composed of individuals from countless
cultural backgrounds. (Foster, T. (2006, March 9). Globalization, pg. 2 6... Show more content on

It encompasses the deterioration of the environment through reduction of resources, ecosystems and
the extinction of the environment, which can either positively or negatively, affects certain
Canadian businesses. There is also the suppression of human rights to consider, which entails the
lack of support and working conditions workers may face in any field. Ultimately, it can be argued
that globalization is a force for environmental devastation, exploitation of workers and suppression
of human rights, all of which are negative effects on Canadian businesses.
Exploitation of workers works internationally to negatively affect the credibility and efficiency of
Canadian businesses. Nowadays most Canadians and residents of other developed western
countries are mindful of the existence of sweatshops and labour exploitation in developing
countries such as China, India, and Mexico. We all, including myself, agree that corrupt conditions
and low wages for those workers are unacceptable, but none of us can do anything about it because
globalization allows it to happen. Business is able to have factories in third world countries, such
as Canadian business Joe Fresh, which has factories in India, the Philippines and China.
People working in these factories are given less pay for more work. Their poverty and resulting
economic depression in their respective countries can trigger adverse reactions across the globe,

The inception of the Tokugawa Shogunate around 1600 would reduce the impact of foreign
relations throughout Japanese society. This bulwark helped resist change and development in
Japan, although it continued throughout the western world. Following two hundred years of self
imposed seclusion from the rest of the world, the forceful re entry of the foreigner brought about
considerable change in Japan. While managing the foreign threat, there was also an imbalance of
power in the current feudal system of the Tokugawa Shogunate. This imbalance created uncertainty

Throughout the various themes presented in The Analects, there are some particular teachings
implicit within Japans feudalistic samurai society. The general discussion of virtues and morals
promoted within The Analects leads the student to strive to achieve gentleman status or if
possible sage status. While the broad application of these lessons did occur in Japan, there are
inherent differences with its practice in China. While the movement of an individual in social
and economic stature in China was based on the quality of work they were able to complete
through their apparent knowledge and work ethic. The same flexibility did not apply in Japan.
The rigid feudal, hereditary structure provided a lack of upward mobility throughout all of
society. So the quest for personal enlightenment was checked by lack of encouragement and the
void of personal independence. However, Confucianism did support the established government s
role of enhancing filial piety. Duke Ching of Ch`I asked Confucius about government. Confucius
answered, Let the ruler be a ruler, the subject a subject, the father a father, the son a son. The
lessons are scattered with words of honoring and obeying your parents, Meng yi Tzu asked about
being filial. The master answered, Never fail to comply. 1 This application, in its transition to Japan

South Africa An international team of scientist led by Professor Lee R. Berger, announced on

the Rising Star cave in South Africa. This adds a new branch to the human species family tree.
Modern humans, who belong to a specie named Homo sapiens, continue to be until today the only
living species in our genus. But 20,000 years ago there were other species of the genus Homo that
are now referred as hominins . The discovering of Lee R. Berger, an American paleoanthropologist

The creature, which evidently walked upright, represents a mix of traits. The hands and feet look
like Homo, but the shoulders and the small brain recall Homo s more ape like ancestors, the
researchers said.
It s brain was no larger than a baseball, its shoulders and torso primitive, its fingers long and
curved, allowing H. naledi to climb and swing from the trees. [...] Its long legs and feet, nearly
indistinguishable from those of modern man, allowed it not only to walk upright but also to travel
for many miles at a time reported from The Washington Post Amy Ellis Nutt.
Scientists also believe that Homo naledi buried their dead. The number of bodies, their location,
and the hard access characteristic of the cave makes scientists believe that Naledi species left
deliberately bodies in caves as a way of burying them. This has been considered as a behavior
limited to modern humans and never seen before in such a primitive human, reported The New
York Times. This could have big implications for understanding the origins of modern human
behavior.

These drainage basins that formed 6,000 years ago are the origin of the Great Lakes we are
familiar with today. These glacial lakes are thought to much larger than the current bodies of water
surrounding Michigan. The evidence of these lakes can be found, for example, around Saginaw
bay where there are eroded bluffs and plains located far away from the current Lake. Glaciers also
left us many moraines in the state of Michigan. Moraines are land masses where debris, carried
by glaciers has formed ridges or mounds. Moraines can be an indicator of the end of a large glacial
retreat. Moraines are created by the wasting ice sheet and are composed of glacial till. Glacial
till (unsorted glacial sediment) is laid down quickly as the glacier moves and is composed of
various sediments with many rocks and stones. In Michigan there are many famous moraines. As

Crooked Nose
There are two procedures which are usually involved in the correction of a crooked nose. These
procedures include septoplasty, which is performed to improve or alleviate an airway obstruction,
and rhinoplasty, which is done to improve the external appearance of the nose. These two
procedures may be done individually, or together, depending on the needs and desires of the
patient. Then the physician can, if necessary, surgically realign the nasal septum to improve the air

The surgery, which may take anywhere from one to three hours, is usually performed on an

the nose and should be worn for approximately one week. The final appearance of the nose is not

Less profitable firms or high debt firms could use SER disclosures to legitimise activities to
lenders and shareholders (Haniffa and Cooke 2005). SERs can be used by managers to frame how
Financial stake holders interpret financial information, specifically to manipulate stakeholders
reaction to disappointing financial reports, by changing the focus and constructing a
disconfirmatory effect on the financial figures (Neu et al., 1998, p.270). Qualitative positive
disclosures with quantitative negative disclosures (Gibbins et al., 1990) can be used as a method
to down play managerial incompetence and persuade financial stakeholders to excuse past
mistakes by using their ethical or socially responsible displays to compensate. This is a contrasting
view to legitimacy theory which emphasizes an organisations need for actions to be perceived by
stakeholders as legitimate (Deegan and Unerman, 2011). In this instance, SERs are used as a
method to manage a situation when the expectations of stakeholders are not met. When an
organisation fails to be perceived as legitimate, they use SERs to demonstrate that it can only
improve upon its past actions and regain legitimacy.
A factor influencing management to produce SERs would be to attract investment funds and take
advantage of the practical market for ethically responsible investment funds (Deegan, 2002). If an

Network News stations like Fox and MSNBC have distorted news information so much so that
viewers now turn to comedy central to keep current with the news. Turning to comedians for

first understand the whole of the topic before running it through a comedic process, in which
they then begin distorting the information to attain laughter. Jon Stewart has an enormous

29. Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good
The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap
between the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents
for every dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress
passed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later,
women still earn only seventy six percent of the wagesof men.
Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came
to their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not
because they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman
Hartmann, 1981:93; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill,
effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is
necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal
employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional
pay administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay
differentials are caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has
unjustly depressed women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how
this segregation has contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant
portion of the sex pay gap has undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which
has placed women into less skilled, less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by
female jobs being assigned lower pay, even when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs.
There are several ways that this discrimination may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to
prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2) devaluation of jobs performed primarily
by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority men s job choices, assertiveness about
pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does one go about achieving comparable
worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a method must be

In the Victorian Era, men served as the head and face of all laws; therefore, women were

women were expected to marry, so most oppressions took place within the marriage. Once a woman
married a man, she abandoned a part of herself. According to the Broadview Anthology of British

husband and wife as one person: the husband (508). Women had no identity or purpose beyond

their complete independence. Because of their military strand they differed from their predecessors
the Protestant Patriots , this is because the society was heavily influenced by revolutionary events

Even though this constitutional change was a disappointment to the Irish and not a breakthrough in
the changing nature of the Irish question as the Irish vote was not restored to the 40 shilling

with the Liberal government, Ireland was given several significant concessions; a national primary
education was set up which, by 1881, allowed for Вѕ of those aged between 6 and 15 the ability to

man, Jay Gatsby. Jay happens to be living across the lake from his ex lover, and Nick s second
cousin, Daisy. Daisy and Jay were together until she left him, for he wasn t wealthy enough, and
later married another man after Jay went to war. Daisy and Tom begin to have an affair and
when Tom, Daisy s husband, finds out everyone starts yelling at each other and Daisy and Jay
leave and drive off. Daisy, feeling an immense amount of emotions, accidentally runs over and
kills Tom s mistress, Myrtle. Myrtle s husband, George, believes that Jay had killed his wife and
shoots Jay in the head, leaving him dead in a swimming pool.
Sanjana: Why do you think that so many people think of The Great Gatsby and think a classic ?
Eshani: Classics are debatable and are opinions that we grow up with that sooner or later turn into
facts. To me, classics are novels that can relate to your children, grandchildren, great
grandchildren, and so on so forth. The Great Gatsby is about hardships and how sometimes life
doesn t go as planned but how you must continue living. A classic is a story written in the past that
lasts throughout time and relates to everyone is some way, and that is exactly what makes The
Great Gatsby a classic novel.

Why are teams and groups seen as essential features of contemporary organisations?
This essay aims to discuss why teams and groups are seen as essential features of contemporary
organisations. Firstly, it will examine what exactly constitutes a group or team, then it will go on to
discuss different types of groups and teams which exist within an organisation. Next it will explain
why groups and teams are key to contemporary organisations in particular and finally, it will discuss
the disadvantages associated with groups within organisations.
Firstly, it is important to distinguish what exactly constitutes a team or a group. As Khan (2010)
states, all teams are groups because the individuals in it have some kind of of unifying ... Show

Virtual teams allow the organisation to easily spread decision making to trusted individuals rather
than only to top management.
Groups can be essential to an organisation s level of productivity. If there is a high level of group
cohesiveness the group will experience high morale and will become a desirable entity to be
part of within an organisation which means there will be plenty employees willing to compete
with each other for a spot in the group, which in turn raises productivity. Managers need to
control the size of groups in order to stay at an optimum level of productivity and also offer
incentives like bonus pay for good performance to enhance the desirability of the group even
further. Groups also relieve some of the responsibility of the manager, as they do not have to keep
a constant eye on each individual employee, they can trust that group members will spur on the
productivity of the group in order to gain the proposed incentives.
Groups can provide an organisation with more than one solution to a proposed problem because
as Maier (1967) states, a group has a greater knowledge store than that of any individual.
Monitoring the size of groups here is vital from management, as with a large sized group there
may be plenty of ideas generated, but they are not necessarily well formed ideas. Splitting groups
into smaller member sizes will ensure the ideas are well thought

Slave Codes in the Pre Civil War United States
Prior to the emancipation of the slaves in the United States , there were several laws governing the
identities and the relationships of people with slaves . These laws were prevalent in the states that
allowed slavery , especially in the South . These codes stipulated the rights of masters toward their
slaves and defined the status of slaves in the American society . These codes also gave white
masters almost absolute power over their slaves . The rights of slaves were so minimal that they

47. The Feminist Movement By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Waves ebb and flow. After a wave crashes, it recedes back to the ocean and gains momentum
before crashing onto shore again. The feminist movement have been described as waves because it
experiences similar motions. After the solidary force of the first wave, there was a recession in
feminist activities that accumulated until it formed the second wave. The first wave feminist
movement narrowed their principles and left a legacy of single mindedness to the second wave
feminist movement. The first wave s focus caused the lull that is the unnamed problem and started
the second wave.
The first wave of feminism sacrificed their original ideologies. The original women s rights leaders
had more on their agendas than just suffrage. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the original leaders,
drafted in Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions many grievances about men and resolutions
that the women of Seneca Falls Convention demanded: equal wages, rights to education and
occupation, equality of human rights, and more demands that stressed gender equality. Sarah
Grimke, another starter of the women s rights movement, wrote in Letters on the Equality of the
Sexes that woman, as their [men s] equal, was unspeakably more valuable than woman as their
inferior, both as a moral and an intellectual being. Both of these leaders encouraged activists in the
early women s rights movement to challenge all obstacles that women faced and pushed for gender
equality. However, as the women s movement

Processed foods contain extra amounts of sodium so the package stay fresh for a greater amount
of time, but if you re watching your sodium levels this could present an issue. Purchase recipes
that have less sodium (around 30 50 mg per serving) and forgo options that will cause your body
to retain water and make you feel bloated. Not all hummus is created equally, so spend some extra
time looking into exactly how much added sodium went into the mix. Your body will thank you.
Hidden Calories
Hummus can be relatively low calorie, like this 45 calorie option, or it can be full of unhealthy
oils that increase the calorie count tremendously. Stick to items that exclude added ingredients and
focus on picking products that have a shorter ingredients list, and use only healthy fats like tahini
or olive oil and fresh ingredients. There are dozens of hummus brands that boast about their
healthy product, but don t deliver on their promise. Do your research and know ahead of time
which brands are the most reliable and free of hidden calories, additives, and unnecessary
ingredients.

Secondary school has been an unrelenting path. These four years of secondary school have had
their excitements and their downfalls. My life had transformed into one that no individual could

On September second, 2014, my grandfather passed away from a heart attack. He was a
cherishing grandparent as well as a great motivator. He used to tell me I see so much potential in
you, and that is something I held on to all my life. Not only did my grandfather leave my family
and me with an immense ethos, yet additionally left us with an extraordinary measure of
dissatisfaction. In the meantime, with all this happening I had issues of my own in school. My
marks were at their most minimal, and I was attempting my best to bring them back up. I was
never too bright in subjects, for instance, Math or science. Regardless, that was an issue that I
expected to oversee by stressing less and augment more in my studies. I decided to implement many
techniques to help me focus in my studies; I tried to put my phone face down so I can become
less distracted although, every time I hear a buzz and see a glimpse of the screen light up I feel
tempted to unlock my phone and see the notification. I kept on attempting different strategies to

I would definitely stress assessing the risk factors this man could have for having an acute heart
attack, MI, like: does anything make it better or worse? If he has any weakness, fatigue, cold
sweat, dizziness, indigestion? I would suggest the nurse to assess the possible risk factors, like
history of hypertension, family history, smoking history, high cholesterol, diabetes. Recent
updated NICE guidance recommends 12 lead electrocardiography as soon as possible in patient
with acute chest pain but warns not to exclude ACS if the ECG is normal (Cooper, Timmis,
Skinner, 2010). I would recommend the wife to go to the nearest emergency room to check her
husband s heart, because taking into the consideration that the patient has no health history for a

attack symptoms. I think it is always better to be safe than

Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the
United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century.
Over the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The

However, there are still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another

attitudes.

On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3).
Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most
instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in
the past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they
assumed that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a
young white woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman
announced her engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named
Leroy Gardner enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal
agreement promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have
observed many justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against
parents or society; a passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the
dominant culture, or whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10).
In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriagesand relationships. This
legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these
relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at

vacation to the lake he took with his father when he was a child. During the essay, the author
reminisces on his trips to the lake during his youth and tells the reader about how things have
changed. The author uses wonderful detail and at some points in the essay feels as if he is a boy

B. White, serves its expressive purpose, using plenty of emotion, such as joy and happiness,
showing the author s value of the past, how he defines himself as a family man, and uses

verisimilitude, make the essay more entertaining with tension, provide artistic unity with a
beginning, middle, end, and a theme, and aesthetic language to add a certain beauty in the way
he writes. The primary pattern followed by the author is the descriptive pattern, describing the
lake as it was when he was a child and the way it was on his trip with his son. At times the author

London is the capital if England. With the changes of history and times, and the vicissitudes of the
world, this old line and beautiful city has formed the humanistic spirit with national characteristics.
After reading the two Williams works, I couldn t hold back my curiosity about the differences in
their poems. Although Black and Wordsworth are all important representatives of romantic poets,
their writing styles and points of view vary so much. How could London vary so much in two
productions? What caused the disparity? This sends me thinking deeply.
First and foremost, the most possible reason is the background. The two writers stayed in two

Although they were all in London, the characters in their poems differed in thousands of ways.
The poem written by Blake pressed close to the daily life of citizens who lived in London. He
focused mostly on the poor and common people, like infants, soldiers and harlot, and he used
ordinary words to express his personal feelings. The words like weakness , woe , cry , fear and so
on, they all became the representative words of streetscape of London. The poet meticulously
portrayed the form and emotion of every person, that brought stirring effect to readers. The poet
represents the sound and picture of London to us. The pedestrians sadness on their faces, the little
