Historical Inaccuracies In King Arthur
King Arthur, a movie starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightly, is placed under the genre historical
fiction , however the movie is unquestionably more of the fiction part of the genre than the historical
aspect of it. The movie is loosely based on the story of a King Arthur and his Knights. The movie was
set in 467 AD, in Britain, near Hadrian s Wall. Although the movie pertained Roman soldiers still in
Britain during 467 AD, this was factually inaccurate because all of the Roman s had left Britain prior
to this time, around 410 AD. The plot of the movie voiced the story of King Arthur and the Sarmatian
knights going on one last mission to save a Roman family from behind Hadrian s before they gain
their freedom, for the knights are not Roman. The story is told out of the ... Show more content on

The movie tries to blend together all of the myths and legends that pertain to the mystery of the
medieval and/or Roman King Arthur , such as Lancelot, Merlin, and Guinevere. Although the movie is
loosely based on historical facts, there are many inaccuracies and faults in the plot line and production
of the movie. Throughout the movie King Arthur, there are factual inaccuracies and accuracies
regarding weaponry, King Arthur himself, and Christianity. The weaponry used throughout the film by
the Roman forces and Knights during the battle scenes were erroneous to the actual weapons they
used during this time. The movie denoted and showed that the Romans used trebuchets, a type of siege
weapon. However, the Romans did not use this type of artillery (Lawton, Brian). The trebuchet was

Western Civilization and Happiness and Justice
How can Western Civilization avert decline and promote happiness and justice? In a world of political
and celebrity scandals from the raunchy to the greedy, our culture is full of corruption and an
obsession with fame. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Sylvia Plath s The Colossus both explore the
West s moral blindness and our paralysis of feeling and thought in the twentieth century. Western
civilization is becoming a wildfire fueled by tragic ignorance, societal norms and corruption. This
must be exposed in order for any cultural epiphany to occur.
Judge Brack is the definition of the colossus in Hedda Gabler. He is someone people trust and build up
to be an honorable and insightful leader, but in the end he is a vulgar and immoral individual full of
Dionysian corruption, and lacking any apollonian qualities. Brack throws frequent stag parties that
eventually evolve into wild nights of debauchery. He and the men he invite drink and participate in
orgies. While at night he is an unrefined sexual animal, during the day he is the definition of justice
and trust. During his interactions with Hedda he reveals his deep misogynistic beliefs and his sense of
power over her. Instead of letting her display her power through her pistols, he treats her like a child
telling her that we ll have no more of that kind of fun today, (249). He knows that she feels trapped in
the cultural norm of marriage, but he enjoys poking at her and making her feel weak as a woman. He

The Era Of Rock Music
Introduction: The 1970s were an interesting era for rock music. It offered the genre a harder sound that
was not prominent in the 1960s. This was due to the rise in hard rock, glam rock, and arena rock bands
such as AC/DC, The Who, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. To go along with this transition in sound, the
1970s continued the experimental music scene that the 1960s created. Groups like Deep Purple,
Electric Light Orchestra, and Pink Floyd (of course) helped progress rock music with their
experimentation with song recording. With so many great artists, it is no wonder why so many people
see the 1970s as being the best era for rock music. While there were tons of great bands in the
seventies one band constantly is referred to as one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally believe that accusation is false, so here is my essay on why Queen is the most overrated
band in rock history.
Overrated Explanation: Before I get started I must go over what I mean by overrated . When I say a
group is overrated, I do not necessarily mean they are bad. I personally enjoy Queen and rank them
highly on my list of favorites. By stating a band as being overrated, I mean that they receive more
fame and acclaim than they deserve. Many great bands are guilty of this to an extent, such as my
favorite band The Beatles . This essay is to purely explain why Queen doesn t deserve the acclaim
they receive and not why they are a terrible band, because that is not true at all.
Musical Style: Let s start off with Queen s impact on rock music. All of the greatest rock bands have
influenced the bands that have come after them. For example, Led Zeppelin s early use of heavy
guitars and drums is arguably responsible for the creation of the heavy metal genre (Waksman). A
more modern example is Nirvana, who s music in the early and mid 1990s helped popularize
alternative music as a whole (Azerrad). This brought alternative music to the mainstream making
bands like Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Pearl Jam, and Blink 182 become regulars on the radio.
Compared to other artists of this caliber, Queen has not influenced rock as much as expected. The

The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate
The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the
theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to
decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of trough
and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen molecules
contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and carbon dioxide
should decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to allow the body to be
oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such occurrence. These ideas correlates
to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104
beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to 130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide
respectively, when condition had remained the same (pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the
altitude, component such as heart rate carbon dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and
breathing pattern to decrease. This is because the heart will need to pump more blood and use more
oxygen thus increasing the production of carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the
oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to
the results as on table, as an exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the

How Did Catherine II Changed Russia
Catherine II once said Power without a nation s confidence is nothing ( Catherine the Great Quote ).
Catherine II, or Catherine the Great, was one of Russia s greatest leaders. Although she was German
born, Catherine II looked forward to her chance at ruling Russia and changed the country for the
better. She tried to create policies that were in the best interest of the Russian people and would help
to westernize her country ( World ). Catherine the Great was responsible for expanding Russia and the
implementation of political, education, and social reforms that changed the country ( World ).
Catherine II fueled Russia with progressive and modern ideas that threw her country into the future.

One of the most influential of her political reforms came about in 1767, called the Instruction (
Catherine, II ). The Instruction was a major reform of the government system in Russia, not only that
but it was full of Enlightenment ideals ( World ). Catherine II borrowed ideas from many
Enlightenment philosophers such as Montesquieu, Beccaria, and Adam Smith ( Catherine, II ). She
worked on the Instruction for 2 years, but it was never put into effect as it called for a system of
government that was too far ahead of its time ( Catherine the Great ) ( World ). Notwithstanding the
years spent on the Instruction, Catherine II still managed to create reforms that brought Russia into a
more modern age. In the Statute of 1775 on Provincial Government, she sought to eradicate rampant
corruption in provincial governments. To do this, she created a system under which provinces were
controlled by agents from the central government in St. Petersburg. This idea then spawned an
additional law that was modern and democratic in spirit, it called for the help of villagers and
townspeople in governing themselves through elected office

The s Theory Of Evolution
With one discovery, the battles began. When Galileo published a book defending Copernicus idea that
the Earth revolves around the sun, he was put on trial by the Catholic Church. This scientific finding
threatened the beliefs and teachings of religious institutions, which was the first battle in a never
ending war. Today, America exercises freedom of religion. However, this freedom is restricted in
schools where Darwin s Theory of Evolution is taught. With many advancements in science, to many,
the coexistence of science and religion, specifically Christianity, is questionable. To some,
developments in science, such as evolution, threaten the core beliefs of religious institutions. Several
scientists also believe that it is possible to believe in God and that humans evolved over time. Lastly,
others, including me, believe that science and religion can coexist and that both miracles and new
scientific discoveries can strengthen Christian faith. As Albert Einstein said, science without religion
is lame, religion without science is blind. This paper will further explore this question and provide
evidence that science and religion can coexist: are science and religion comparable? What do
scientific discoveries say?
In the beginning, there was light. This light created a spark, which started the fire of science and
religion. The light is the existence of science, the spark is the advancements in and applications of
science, and the fire is the controversy that

Compare And Contrast Harrison Bergeron And Old Glory
Harrison Bergeron and Old Glory are both in the science fiction genre and take place in a future where
the government is in full control of everything and everyone. In Harrison Bergeron , everyone is equal
and the Handicap General is the person that makes that happen, weather by means of handicaps or
being forcing people to wear masks. Harrison Bergeron doesn t like this and tries to put a stop to this
but ends up being killed by the Handicap General. Old Glory is about a young boy s grandfather being
upset about a new law being passed and tries to protest about it, but similar to Harrison Bergeron, he
also ends up getting killed by the government. Both authors use many science fiction elements to help
develop the theme of an oppressive government keeping people from being who they really are. ...

For example, the two stories are only a few decades apart. The story Old Glory took place in the 2041
and in Harrison Bergeron it says, The year was 2081... Another example is that in Old Glory the USA
s flag had more stars on it and that indicates that the US has twelve more countries than it does now.
In Old Glory the main character s great grandfather says, Thirteen stripes, sixty‐two stars, and not a bit
of meaning. Also, even though Harrison Bergeron takes place in 2081, it doesn t have as much
futuristic advancements as Old Glory , which takes place in 2041. In Harrison Bergeron , George and
Hazel still have an old television with a television tube in it, but in Old Glory , people have things
called halo sets . This element of sci fi helps develop the theme because the stories are showing what
could happen in the future if people aren t aware of what the government is capable

Economic Development Of Hong Kong
How can we situate colonialism within the broader globalization processes of industrialization and
deindustrialization in Hong Kong? Globalization is manifesting itself as a result of colonial processes.
The effects of Hong Kong s colonial history are still present as it is not its own independent city state
and currently has semi autonomous rule under mainland China. After giving a brief history on colonial
Hong Kong, I will be focusing on the Sino British Agreement of 1984 and its subsequent effects on
the city s decolonization process, including democratization, economic development, and
decolonization of the education system as compared to the predicted changes under the agreement.
Hong Kong (HK) began as a British colony in 1842 as a spoil of victory from the Opium War (Chan
Postiglione, p. 3). Its markets and ports were driven by regional trade and their strategic location.
Hong Kong has since then become a cosmopolitan city state of global significance and serves as the
gateway to trade with mainland China. Further, HK acts as a catalyst for the economic development of
southern China, where HK industries employ manufacturing labour force workers in the neighboring
Guangdong province. Hong Kong is therefore dependent on China s own economic growth and
modernization, however, its successful free trade and market society are in contrast to its lack of a
fully democratic form of government under British rule (Chan, Postiglione, p. 3). Even after the Sino

The Effects Of Media On Body Weight And Disordered Eating
PERSUASIVE SPEECH OUTLINE TEMPLATE Your Name: Lauire Pelosi COMS 101 Section D06
LUO Date Due: August 14, 2005 ` Organization: Problem Solution Audience analysis: My audience
consists of college students both male and female, some are parents as well as students and the
audience includes a Professor. All have different demographic backgrounds and cultures vary. Topic:
The culture in America sends a very powerful message to women. 1 A woman s sense of self esteem is
dependent upon her perceived attractiveness to the opposite sex, and body weight plays an increasing
importance in whether she is considered physically attractive, Media has a significant impact on body
weight and disordered eating. This one time isolated syndrome of eating disorders is now emerging as
a place of importance in our society. Rhetorical Purpose: 2 One reason it is so important to understand
how the rhetoric of popular media coverage of anorexia articles maintains women s marginalization is
that The American Anorexia and Bulimia Association [AABA] (2001) estimates that five million U.S.
women suffer from some form of eating disorder, 15 percent of Americans have eating disordered
attitudes, and 1,000 people will die each year from eating disorders. Redemptive Purpose: God

Why Did The French Bourgeoisie-Led Revolution
Intro:
In 1789 the storming of the Bastille on the 14th of July signalled the start of a change in political
history which would not only lead to half a decade of political unrest in France, but would also change
the face of european history forever. From the spread of enlightenment ideology and the idea of true
democracy, France was the centerpiece for radical political and social change in the 18th and 19th
century.
The foundations of which the revolution was built however are not as clearly defined or easy to
understand as the aftermath of the revolution. On one hand there is strong support arguing that the
revolution was a result of an unfair class system, on the other there are historians who see that the
peasant led revolution was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either as a cause or an effect the money and industry is often a matter of high importance especially in
political and social issues. The fact that there is a relationship between economic factors and the
revolution cannot be underestimated, however the argument as to whether it is the preeminent reason
for the revolution can be argued. Although the monetary issues can be seen in the fall of power in the
monarchy, war, social inequality or even in the status of religious figures, the situation remains that all
the events leading up to the 14th July 1789 were inextricably linked. Furthermore one could argue that
whether other factors caused the economic problems, which in turn caused the revolution? This is
where The french revolution is thus...related to but not defined by as specific situation , and actually

Ballad Of Birmingham Analysis
On the surface level Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham, is of a tragic event that has
misfortunately happened. A bombing on a church that has led to the loss of life. Looking at it s history
however, Randall forefronts all the emotions from the speaker with chilling diction and a rhythmic
pattern of rhyming the second and fourth line of each stanza. It brings to life a darker truth, one that
has yet to end. The poem begins first with a conversation between a mother and her daughter Mother
dear, may I go downtown instead of out to play, and march the streets of Birmingham in a Freedom
March today? This conversation occurred in 1963 Birmingham, Alabama at the height of the Civil
Rights era with Martin Luther King Jr. leading marchers advocating for equality in one of the most
racist places. The daughter asks her mother for permission to be a part of the movement but the
mother denies her as she fears for her safety No, baby, no, you may not go, for the dogs are fierce and
wild, and clubs and hoses, guns and jails aren t good for a little child. The mother is aware that black
people are not treated fairly in society but is also aware of how those that try to retaliate against it are
beaten near death or are seriously injured by dogs or pressurized hoses. She does not want her
daughter to be hurt or killed. Despite so, the daughter tries to convince her mother to let her go, But
mother, I won t be alone. Other children will go with me, and march the streets of

Socialism And Capitalism In George Orwell s 1984
Governments are formed through people rising to power in various methods whether it be force or
public elections. The most common forms of governments are democracies, republics, and
monarchies. All forms of government have different aspects that make them unique from each other.
In 1984 George Orwell combines the worst elements of socialism and capitalism to form INGSOC, a
government that controls society and forces the worship of Big Brother and his totalitarian regime. A
democracy in its purest form allows its citizens to have an equal say in decisions that affect their
everyday lives. Furthermore, a republic lets its people vote for who is in power. The people in power

showing how there is a division between the rich and the poor, A mob of two or three hundred woman

Case Application: Mixing It Up
In July of 2000, General Mills acquired Pillsbury from London based Diageo for $10.5 billion in stock
and assumed debt. (All Business, A D amp;B Company) After the merger, managers from General
Mills were now faced with integrating the two Minnesota based companies. A special concern that had
been brought up was marketing issues. With such household names such as Pillsbury, Betty Croker,
Green Giant, Wheaties, and Cheerios, the managers at General Mills had a large task at hand on how
to continue to market the many brands under their umbrella. As said by Kevin Wilde, the company s

The use of these types of teams creates the potential for an organization to generate greater outputs
with no increase in, or even fewer, outputs (Stephen P. Robbins 249). According to Beth Gunderson,
the director of organization effectiveness at General Mills, you can leverage beyond people s
functional expertise. A person from human resources, for instance, would ask a provocative question
[precisely because] she wasn t a marketer. And you d see the look on the marketers faces: Whoa, I
never thought of that. (Gordon).
Aside from the many benefits gained by these cross functional teams, managers face some major
problems. The same qualities that make these teams work, that they are large, virtual, diverse, and
composed of highly educated specialists, also work against it. Members of these complex, cross
functional teams are, as long as there are not any outside influences, less likely to share knowledge
freely, to learn from one another, to shift workloads flexibly to breakup unexpected bottlenecks, to
help one another complete jobs and meet deadlines, and to share resources in other words, to
collaborate. (Erickson). Some the ways that managers may deal with these issues is to look into the
issues discussed in the next section.
There are a number of items that affect how a team works. These items include roles, norms, status,
group size, and group cohesiveness. Roles are behavior

A Geometric Parody of Victorian Society
Fictitious elements in literature may be more realistic than one thinks and the concept of dystopia is no
exception. Within the novella Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott,
there exists a world known as Flatland . Flatland is a quaint world. It is a world where shapes act out
the roles of various social classes, a world where everything is geometric. However, despite Flatland s
mundane description upon closer inspection, it can be seen that Flatland s social hierarchy starkly
resembles that of Victorian England, and with good reason too. In an attempt to bring about the
reformation of the Victorian social ladder, Abbott chose to take a more passive approach and thus
Flatland was born. Parodying the various downfalls of Victorian society, Flatland: A Romance of
Many Dimensions is an iconoclastic cleverly written satire that spotlights the many underlying flaws
in the Victorian society. A rather mathematical society, each of Flatland s inhabitants take the form of
a geometric figure. Men are represented as polygons such as triangles, squares, and pentagons.
Women however, are represented as straight lines. With these two pieces of information and the fact
that Flatland is a satire of Victorian society, one can infer that one s placement in Flatland s social
hierarchy is based off the number of sides one has. For men, those in the lowest class would be
triangles. Unfortunately for women, who are represented simply by lines, this sort of

autonomous states after the Articles of Confederation. The devolution revolution was a movement that
reduced the responsibilities of the federal government and gave power back to the states, a transition
propelled by both popular sentiment and budget imperatives. It focused on the New Federalism
ideology Ronald Reagan supported. The author of Devil in Devolution, John Donahue argues letting
Washington fade while the states take the lead is badly timed. In his opinion, states are powerful
enough and the federal government s retreat to a domestic role. The tragedy of commons principle

Firstly, a company is a separate legal entity[5]. Therefore, the debt of the company is separated from
its directors and shareholders. In addition, the money borrowed will be recorded under the name of the
company and the creditor will sue the company if there is any unpaid account. However, creditor is
playing an important role in providing funds to assist company to manage its cashflow and

business. Nevertheless, according to the passage Re New World Alliance Pty Ltd (1994) 122 ALR 531

What do you project the outcome of the first exchange to be?
Because resources are fixed and limited, both used distributive bargaining strategies and tactics. Both
appear to be competing with each other. I project a win lose for Len. Marilyn tried to get Len to
reduce his resistance point by reminding him that they had made an agreement, and that she was
expecting him to commit to it. Her strategy was shortsighted because she didn t anticipate the frame
they would be using, or the frame Len would be using. Len elected to reframe his position on the basis

Part C: Were Marilyn s objectives achieved in the second exchange?
Yes. Marilyn used an active engagement strategy that persuaded Len to reveal his target and resistance
points. She got Len to see that their goals are not mutually exclusive, and that they need to work on a
transfer schedule that results in a win win. She used key steps in the integrative negotiation process to
shift the tone and focus of the exchange. She defined the problem, stated it as a goal, and avoided

Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools can give
teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or leave it up to the teachers to
judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999). Teachers are often very nervous about including
texts that are not traditional or specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly
publicized cases of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts
and school systems (Agee, 1999).
First Amendment Rights Relating to the Censorship of Books
Censorship cases often bring about debates over students first amendment rights. Students first
amendment rights are important to preserve so that students can not be excluded from meaningful
works or literature. It is understandable for the government to design educational plans as a way to get
its voice into classrooms, but the truth promoting function of the First Amendment provides no reason,
however, to question the right of students to explore a variety of ideas and perspectives, and to form
and express ideas of their own (Brown, 1994, p. 30). Schools already place a restriction on religious
material or material addressing current political controversy (Brown, 1994).
Censors typically feel as though the subject material of controversial books in the high school English
curriculum is too much for teenagers to handle (Shen, 2002).

Stars and Nuclear Fusion Essay
A star is luminous point in the night sky that is a large, Indecent bodies like the sun. Stars are made up
of big exploding balls of gas, mostly hydrogen and helium. The sun is similarly a star made up of huge
amounts of hydrogen, undergoing a continuous nuclear reaction like a hydrogen bomb. Stars come
about when vast clouds of hydrogen, helium and dust contract and collapse due to gravity. The clouds
came from astronomical plasma from The Big Bang , but the dust comes from the supernovae of other
stars.
Since the beginning of recorded civilization, stars played a huge role in religion and proved vital to

Main sequence stars like our own sun enduring in a state of nuclear fusion during which they will
produce energy for billions of years by replacing hydrogen to helium. Stars change over billions of
years. When their main sequence phase ends they pass through other states of existence according to
their size and other characteristics. The larger a star s mass, the shorter its lifespan is. As stars move
toward the end of their lives, much of their hydrogen will be converted to helium. Helium sinks to the
star s core and raises the star s temperature causing its outer shell to expand. These large, puffy stars
are known as Red Giants. The red giant phase is actually a prelude to a star shedding its outer layers
and becoming a small, dense body called a White Dwarf. White dwarfs cool down for billions and
billions of years, until they finally go dark and produce no energy at all. Once this happens, scientists
have yet to observe, such stars become known as Black Dwarfs. A few stars avoid this evolutionary
path and instead go out with a bang, exploding as Supernovae. These violent explosions leave behind
a small core that will then turn into something called a Neutron Star or even, if the remainder is large
enough, it is then turned into something called a Black Hole.

Victor Frankenstein Lightning Analysis
Lightning is a brief flash of electricity with many consequences. Lightning can be scarring,
illuminating, and destructive. It is something to be feared and respected. In the novel Frankenstein,
Mary Shelley utilizes the motif of lightning to represent the disastrous life Victor Frankenstein to
shows how wrong choices can destroy lives. Victor Frankenstein led a difficult life struck by
tragedies. Many catastrophes were marked by the appearance of lightning or the indication of
lightning and electricity. The first appearance of this motif came very early in the novel, It was not
splintered by the shock, but entirely reduced to thin ribbons of wood (Shelley 22). In the second
chapter, Victor reveals that when he was 15, he discovered a tree that had been absolutely decimated.
The tree was not destroyed by lightning in the stereotypical, jagged V shape way; instead, it was
completely torn apart and shredded. The first lightning strike in the novel was one of great power and
strength if it completely destroyed such an old and large oak tree. The first lightning strike was
primarily intended as an element of foreshadowing. As one of the first intricate details related by
Victor Frankenstein, it served the purpose of setting up the rest of the story. In a literal sense, the
lightning served the function of taking away the life of a tree. It was a brief destructive force that
carried a large consequence. Similary, Victor made a brief choice that led to much destruction.

INTRODUCTION
The growing dependence of many countries, especially the USA and Europe on the imported oil and
the daily increase of oil price and the heightened concern on the global warming and the
environmental pollutions which has forced many car manufacturing companies to study the new and
innovative techniques in solving this very important issue.
Toyota as the world s third car manufacturing company and the first in Japan has introduced a new era
in the vehicles history.

CONVINCING CONSUMERS:
The main issue on Hybrid vehicles was that most of consumers did not believe it as a real car.
Overtime, Toyota succeeded to convince the automobile buyers that Toyota Prius is a real, usable and
efficient hybrid car.
DRIVING RESPONSIBILITY.
Toyota Prius has been equipped with a monitoring system which helps the driver to know how to run
his/her car to have a better function and reduce the fuel usage and save more energy. This helps the
driver to feel responsible on his/her driving and to maximize the car fuel efficiency.
LONG TERM PLAN BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PRODUCT:
Although Toyota invented this new hybrid vehicle more than ten years ago, it did not offer the car to
the USA consumers immediately. The main reason was that Toyota was aware of the new technology
challenges. While Toyota was on the market research and new product development, other companies
were focusing on merger and acquisition. Brand recognition, technology changes and improvement
take several years to finish and Toyota wanted to launch a product which has cleared all the possible
obstacles such as space, efficiency, speed, safety, weight which can meet all consumers expectations.
MAINTAINS ITS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OVER COMPETITORS
The introduction of Toyota Prius was not just a short term goal. Toyota had much broader goals.

The Internal and External Conflicts of Willy Loman Essay
Individuals explore their responses to conditions of internal and external conflicts throughout
literature. Going in depth to a character allows the reader to better understand that character s internal
and external conflicts. Arthur Miller uses this technique in several of his plays, including Death of a
Salesman. Miller portrays the character of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman through his internal
and external conflicts. The internal conflict begins with Willy s expectations for his sons and The
Woman. Willy struggles throughout the play with having extremely high expectations for his sons,
Happy and Biff. Happy and Willy get along well because they are most alike of the two sons. Happy

The reader can see this when The Woman says, I ll put you right through to the buyers, (Miller 39).
Thus, Willy has multiple expectations for his sons and The Woman. The internal conflict continues
with Willy s dreams. The beginning of the play tells us that it is about dreams (Eisinger 2). Willy
dreams of the American dream and family dreams. Willy characterizes the American dream as
success, which creates conflict within himself. Willy longs for the dream so much that he focuses
solely on achieving this goal that he loses desire for anything less. Willy interprets his desire for
success when he defines Dave Singleton:
And he was eighty four years old and he d drummed merchandise in thirty one states. And old Dave
he d go up to his room, y understand, put on his green velvet slippers I ll never forget and pick up his
phone and call the buyers, and without ever leaving his room at the age of eighty four, he made his
living. And when I saw that, I realized that selling was the greatest career a man could want. (Miller
81)
Dave Singleton is a model for Willy because he shows that a salesman can be remembered, loved, and
helped in many different places in the country (Eisinger 4). The success of Dave is the American
dream that Willy desires. The American dream of having everything one wants.
Because Willy wants this corrupt dream so much, he longs for his family to have the same dream.

The Cost Of Late Term Abortion
Late Term Abortion By Kelsey Holm The Cost of Late Term Abortion We have seen a monumental
amount of political and social activism coming from Pro life and Pro choice proponents in the 25
years following the Supreme Court s landmark decision in Roe v. Wade. Far from settling the issue of
a woman s constitutional right to an abortion, the Roe decision galvanized pro life and prochoice
groups and precipitated many small battles in what many on both sides view to be a war between fetal
protection and women s access to reproductive choice (Oliveri, 1998). Now, the choice to abort a child
in what is now being deemed as late term abortion is something that activists and political leaders are
wanting. This argument goes beyond the political level and is now at the judicial level. This argument
has even gone into the main streets of our society with each side gaining and losing ground. More
recently, we have a presidential candidate who sides with Pro choice and late term abortion. Pro life
activists staged peaceful, nation wide campaign of clinic protests to oppose this cause. The protests
had to be peaceful because of violent conflicts that occurred in the past which led Congress in 1994 to
enactment of the Federal Access to Clinic Entrances law (Oliveri, 1998). This law created specific
civil and criminal penalties for violence outside of abortion clinics (Oliveri, 1998). State legislatures
imposed limitations on the right to abortion, including

Connecting Factors Essay
United Kingdom courts may consider additional connecting factors in establishing domicile of origin,
such as adoption. If the factor of adoption is not present in the case, United Kingdom courts do not
permit changes of domicile of unmarried children under the age of 16 unless their parents from whom
they depend change their domicile. The only exception to the general rule can be inferred from
Section 4 of the Domicile and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1973, according to which the domicile of
dependency may be established in the light of the following connecting factors: a) changes of the
father s domicile may justify changes in his child s domicile; b) the mother is entitled to elect whether
her child s domicile must be changed with hers, under the condition of the father s death or of when
the child is illegitimate. However, the factor of adoption changes everything, as it allows an adopted

Self Portrait With Monkeys Frida Kahlo
Self Portrait with Monkeys was painted by Frida Kahlo in 1943. Frida was born in Coyocan, Mexico
in 1907 (Morrison). She was one of six daughters. At the age of six, she contracted polio and at the
age of eighteen she was in a serious accident. After the wreck, she was unable to complete her testing
in school. She would later marry another famous artist, Diego Rivera. They would later divorce
around the time of Kahlo gaining fame. Her art often had a dark theme, including the piece Self
Portrait with Monkeys. Her work is considered primitivism, indigenism and Surrealism ( Frida Kahlo
Biography, Art, and Analysis of Works ).
Kahlo was an average young woman until an accident forever changed her life. Kahlo, who was
eighteen at the time, was with her friend when they stepped onto a new model bus (Morrison). The
bus turned out to be dangerous in a collision, because it splintered and a metal handrail impelled her.
At the time, Kahlo was unaware of her injuries and the severities of them. The injuries would go on to
affect her for the rest of her life. The aftermath began the artist s dark turn on herself reflection.
In the aftermath of her wreck, Kahlo began to paint as a form of therapy (Morrison). Her purpose was
to heal and to express herself. She had studied art in school, however she did not focus on it until her
recovery. Her mother encouraged her artwork and helped make it possible by providing a mirror for
Kahlo to use to view her artwork while laying down.

Should Same Sex Couples Be Allowed To Adopt
Should Same Sex Couples Be Allowed to Adopt With the battle of same sex marriage still continuing,
it has yet aroused another subject similar to the matter: should same sex couple be allowed to adopt.
Throughout the 21th century, this topic has been controversially debated whether or not same sex
couples adopting is a negative or beneficial right. With this being said, homosexual couples should be
allowed to adopt because kids with homosexual parents are more open minded, shown the same love
by parents and show love to others, however children are believed to face social stigmatization. Kids
may have the advantage of open mindedness, tolerance and role models for equitable relationships
when having homosexual parents. One instance show when children are raised by homosexual parents
are believed they will be more tolerant when reaching older stages in their life to the LGBT
community. For example a child is raised by a gay couple, which later the child when older will be
more accepting of those around them and open minded to homosexual couples since they were raised
by a homosexual couple. Following this, children will be taught not to judge people off of their
lifestyle, but to judge off of their personality. Therefore, children who are raised by homosexual
parents generally have better social skills, and peer relationships which result in a stronger buffer
against stigma or discrimination. However, in some instances children face indirect consequences such
as social

is resistance training? More specifically what impact does resistance training have on your overall

The Nibelung Hero s Journey
A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that
could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on
their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are
central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner
consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named
Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines
as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. In it, he argues that every time someone is labeled
as a hero in a story, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sigmund s hero s journey, he eventually is sent the child of Signy and Siggeir as his first trial in
order to build up to his eventual goal of killing Siggeir. He kills two sons through testing them, and
finally stumbles upon a third boy ten years later named Sinfiotli. He immediately hits it off with
Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund
and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once
they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover
that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s
journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are
seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the
one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the
circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards
the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill
Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my
mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her
marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her
to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. She experienced her apotheosis moment
as she broke free and became herself. My mom is what she was seeking, Sigmund is who he was
seeking, their challenging existence led them to the point

Analysis Of Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning
Another reflection on society was Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning; he was a perfect example of
how writers used comics as a medium to address race. He was a black protégé who, due to his own
series being cancelled, later became a member of Batman s Outsiders. He was the first black
superhero in DC Comics to get his own title series and because of this, he could not avoid serving as a
symbolic reminder of racial tokenism. Real name being Jefferson Pierce, a respectable schoolteacher,
Black Lightning has the most cynical method of keeping his identity a secret. His pictorial
representation proved that he lived up to the stereotype in wearing an afro wig as well as his textual
representation in talking street slang , as this would enable him to keep his identity a secret and fit in
with his black community. The use of black slang is a means for the white creator to explore a way of
speaking that he would not usually experience and despite the words coming from Black Lightning, it
was not a true black man s voice that was heard. The use of street slang works with his pictorial
representation to exaggerate a distinction between his heroic identity and his civilian identity; slang
not only has connotations of being less educated because it is informal, but as it is slang only used by
the same social group, i.e black people, it once again places a large divide between whites and blacks.
This aspect completely opposes his civilian identity, as he talks good English and

William Carlos Williams The Use Of Force
The Use of Force Physicians, in their daily practices will tell you, not all patients when being

not all calls went as smooth as it should most of the times. Nearly all doctors will agree that children,
and the mentally incompetent, are the most difficult patients to deal with. Because of incompetence,
these patients are not able to make decisions for themselves. Doctors are presumably likeable people,
because, when you are sick, they make you healthier, although for others, doctors can be villains.
Patients whose doctor s force treatment on them perceive this as a violation of their rights. The use of

our side to help us complete agricultural tasks as well as recreational uses for thousands of years.
While the USDA may classify the horse as livestock, many Americans consider the horse to be

Analysis Of Charles Dicken In Great Expectations
Charles Dicken was a white, Christian man who ripped and tore his way up the social hierarchy, who
turned his grimy rags into eternal riches. The fruit of his labor has been transcribed into dialects and
languages that transcend Anglo Saxon society. He is crowned a prince of Victorian literature and the
cerulean sapphire on his crown is his Great Expectations, a bildungsroman at its finest. First published
by Chapman and Hall in 1861, it follows a boy s transformation into a man in a rotting industrial
world. In the end, however, Great Expectations is a novel that exposes the incorporeal essence s
ability to decay but also its resilience, its ability to change: even if a sentient being is barren of
emotion, it can still bloom in the midnight sun. Pip is an orphan, bred in a land of thunderous skies
and wetlands. He found his smile running through the emerald grass and his frown at his parent s
headstones. This countryside was his womb, a misty bog that fed him and tucked him into bed at
night. Indeed, Pip himself wails that he had seen the damp lying on the outside of [his] little window,
as if some goblin had been crying there all night. . . The marsh mist was so thick, that the wooden
finger on the post directing people to [his] village a direction which they never accepted, for they
never came there was invisible to [him] until [he] was quite close under it. Then, as [he] looked up at
it, while it dripped, it seemed to [his] oppressed conscience like a phantom

The Federal Reserve Act, The U.s. Financial System
Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was
determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of the
legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal government
during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the fact that the
increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to large seasonal
swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an attempt to rectify the
shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New York Clearinghouse
Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible for the settlement of
payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only source at the time that
had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a discount window or an open
market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an adequate amount of liquid reserves
to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the agricultural harvest cycles, when currency
demands accelerated. In response to the most detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of
wealthy bankers created the concept of The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central
banking system. After prior failed attempts to enact the FRB in to law, wealthy

Mariott Corporation Case Study
Marriott s corporation: the cost of capital What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott
Corporation? Are the four components of Marriott s financial strategy consistent with its growth
objective? Marriott Corporation is an international company who s the growth over the year has been
more than satisfactory. In 1987, Marriott s sales grew up by 24% and its return on equity stood at
22%. Moreover the sales and earnings pr share has doubled over the previous year. The company
operates in three divisions: lodging, contract services and restaurants which represents 41%, 46% and
13% of sales in 1987 respectively. Marriott is determined to develop and to enhance its position in
each division. This main goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To determine the opportunity cost of capital, Marriott required three inputs: debt capacity, debt cost,
and equity cost consistent with the amount of debt. The cost of capital depends on each division. In
fact the evaluation of the WACC is an appropriate tool to calculate the cost of capital for the
corporation as a whole and for each division. The cost of equity One of the two major component of
WACC is the cost of equity. The cost of equity model takes into account three values which we must
calculate a risk free rate (rf), risk premium rate (expected market return rf), and Beta Value. Before
doing the calculations, we will justify our choices. We based it on the Stocks, Bonds, Bills and
Inflation (SBBI). This workmanship is a standard reference source for business appraisers. It has been
published annually since 1983. The beta value As it is said in the case, we already know the equity
beta (0,97). But the capital structure (leverage) affects beta estimates. In order to eliminate the effect
of leverage, we will calculate the asset beta, which reflects the sensitivity of the firm s assets
abstracting from capital structure. That is why we have to convert the equity beta into the asset beta.
Then we can calculate the equity beta without the leverage effect. To calculate the asset beta, we need
the current debt value. The ratio D/V for the company is set at 41% so we can find the ratio E/V is set
at 59%. It comes from the exhibit 3 which

Abraham Lincoln Legacy
Each president of the United States of America has left a legacy, some more notable than others. I
believe Abraham Lincoln was the best American president. A Lot of people say that anybody can grow
up to be a President. But not anybody is cut out to be a President. It takes a person to be tough, smart,
active, positive, compassionate and driven, to run for the job. It takes talent, character, and integrity, to
be able to withstand the pressures of this Herculean task.
Leadership Skills
Be with a leader when he is right, stay with him when he is still right, but, leave him when he is
wrong. When Abraham Lincoln was president, he was trying to preserve the union. But, How effective
was Lincoln in inspiring his followers to persevere? Let s take a look at history in the year ... Show

Well for the majority of us, it s not. Let s take a look at how president Abraham Lincoln reacted to
this. After having done some research on this aspect, Abraham Lincoln was confident enough to be
humble to not feel the need to bluster or dominate, but to be sufficiently sure of one s own judgment
and self worth to really listen. A perfect example of trust, loyalty, and respect is revealed in a letter to
Ulysses Grant. Lincoln writes, I now wish to make the personal acknowledgment that you were right,
and I was wrong. How many of us, is brave enough to write our wrongs? Another example was on
February 11, 1861, when Lincoln departed from Springfield to assume the presidency in March. At a
railroad station he says his emotional farewell: My friends No one, not in my situation, can appreciate
my feeling of sadness at this parting. To this place, and the kindness of these people, I owe everything.
These words Abraham shared on such a sad day shows trust, loyalty, and the respect he had for

The Censorship Of Singapore ( Mda )
The practise of censorship the restriction of ideas, action or image through the control of the media or
any other medium of expression. Censorship should be practised sensibly so that it will not restrict the
development and expression of new ideas while ensuring that social and political harmony is assured.
Censorship plays a vital role in maintaining the morals of its society and creating an economically
dynamic, socially cohesive and culturally vibrant nation. (N.A, N.D) The press exert a significant
influence on the public and is partly responsible for the views and values that many hold. Hence, it
should be responsible with what it put forth to the public. Singapore has gradually moved from film
censorship to film classification and now to the focus on media literacy. Media Authority of Singapore
(MDA) plays a significant role in regulating and conducting matters pertaining to the media. It is
guided by legislation/acts such as Media Development Authority of Singapore Act, code of practice
and guideline to comply and enforce the entities. In this term paper, we will discuss how the media
handle censorship and classification related matters as well as reviewing the Films Appeal Committee
under the films act policy. In this regard, recommendations will also be given on how to improve the
clause.
The media environment has undergone major changes, driven largely by the forces of technology,
media convergence and globalisation. (Media Development Authority, 2014) As

  • 2. Historical Inaccuracies In King Arthur King Arthur, a movie starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightly, is placed under the genre historical fiction , however the movie is unquestionably more of the fiction part of the genre than the historical aspect of it. The movie is loosely based on the story of a King Arthur and his Knights. The movie was set in 467 AD, in Britain, near Hadrian s Wall. Although the movie pertained Roman soldiers still in Britain during 467 AD, this was factually inaccurate because all of the Roman s had left Britain prior to this time, around 410 AD. The plot of the movie voiced the story of King Arthur and the Sarmatian knights going on one last mission to save a Roman family from behind Hadrian s before they gain their freedom, for the knights are not Roman. The story is told out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie tries to blend together all of the myths and legends that pertain to the mystery of the medieval and/or Roman King Arthur , such as Lancelot, Merlin, and Guinevere. Although the movie is loosely based on historical facts, there are many inaccuracies and faults in the plot line and production of the movie. Throughout the movie King Arthur, there are factual inaccuracies and accuracies regarding weaponry, King Arthur himself, and Christianity. The weaponry used throughout the film by the Roman forces and Knights during the battle scenes were erroneous to the actual weapons they used during this time. • 3. Western Civilization and Happiness and Justice How can Western Civilization avert decline and promote happiness and justice? In a world of political and celebrity scandals from the raunchy to the greedy, our culture is full of corruption and an obsession with fame. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Sylvia Plath s The Colossus both explore the West s moral blindness and our paralysis of feeling and thought in the twentieth century. Western civilization is becoming a wildfire fueled by tragic ignorance, societal norms and corruption. This must be exposed in order for any cultural epiphany to occur. Judge Brack is the definition of the colossus in Hedda Gabler. He is someone people trust and build up to be an honorable and insightful leader, but in the end he is a vulgar and immoral individual full of Dionysian corruption, and lacking any apollonian qualities. Brack throws frequent stag parties that eventually evolve into wild nights of debauchery. He and the men he invite drink and participate in orgies. While at night he is an unrefined sexual animal, during the day he is the definition of justice and trust. During his interactions with Hedda he reveals his deep misogynistic beliefs and his sense of power over her. Instead of letting her display her power through her pistols, he treats her like a child telling her that we ll have no more of that kind of fun today, (249). He knows that she feels trapped in the cultural norm of marriage, but he enjoys poking at her and making her feel weak as a woman. He is allowed to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Era Of Rock Music Introduction: The 1970s were an interesting era for rock music. It offered the genre a harder sound that was not prominent in the 1960s. This was due to the rise in hard rock, glam rock, and arena rock bands such as AC/DC, The Who, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. To go along with this transition in sound, the 1970s continued the experimental music scene that the 1960s created. Groups like Deep Purple, Electric Light Orchestra, and Pink Floyd (of course) helped progress rock music with their experimentation with song recording. With so many great artists, it is no wonder why so many people see the 1970s as being the best era for rock music. While there were tons of great bands in the seventies one band constantly is referred to as one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally believe that accusation is false, so here is my essay on why Queen is the most overrated band in rock history. Overrated Explanation: Before I get started I must go over what I mean by overrated . When I say a group is overrated, I do not necessarily mean they are bad. I personally enjoy Queen and rank them highly on my list of favorites. By stating a band as being overrated, I mean that they receive more fame and acclaim than they deserve. Many great bands are guilty of this to an extent, such as my favorite band The Beatles . This essay is to purely explain why Queen doesn t deserve the acclaim they receive and not why they are a terrible band, because that is not true at all. Musical Style: Let s start off with Queen s impact on rock music. All of the greatest rock bands have influenced the bands that have come after them. For example, Led Zeppelin s early use of heavy guitars and drums is arguably responsible for the creation of the heavy metal genre (Waksman). A more modern example is Nirvana, who s music in the early and mid 1990s helped popularize alternative music as a whole (Azerrad). This brought alternative music to the mainstream making bands like Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Pearl Jam, and Blink 182 become regulars on the radio. Compared to other artists of this caliber, Queen has not influenced rock as much as expected. The musical style ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of trough and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen molecules contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and carbon dioxide should decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to allow the body to be oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such occurrence. These ideas correlates to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104 beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to 130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively, when condition had remained the same (pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the altitude, component such as heart rate carbon dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and breathing pattern to decrease. This is because the heart will need to pump more blood and use more oxygen thus increasing the production of carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to the results as on table, as an exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The s Theory Of Evolution With one discovery, the battles began. When Galileo published a book defending Copernicus idea that the Earth revolves around the sun, he was put on trial by the Catholic Church. This scientific finding threatened the beliefs and teachings of religious institutions, which was the first battle in a never ending war. Today, America exercises freedom of religion. However, this freedom is restricted in schools where Darwin s Theory of Evolution is taught. With many advancements in science, to many, the coexistence of science and religion, specifically Christianity, is questionable. To some, developments in science, such as evolution, threaten the core beliefs of religious institutions. Several scientists also believe that it is possible to believe in God and that humans evolved over time. Lastly, others, including me, believe that science and religion can coexist and that both miracles and new scientific discoveries can strengthen Christian faith. As Albert Einstein said, science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. This paper will further explore this question and provide evidence that science and religion can coexist: are science and religion comparable? What do scientific discoveries say? In the beginning, there was light. This light created a spark, which started the fire of science and religion. The light is the existence of science, the spark is the advancements in and applications of science, and the fire is the controversy that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Harrison Bergeron And Old Glory Harrison Bergeron and Old Glory are both in the science fiction genre and take place in a future where the government is in full control of everything and everyone. Harrison Bergeron doesn t like this and tries to put a stop to this but ends up being killed by the Handicap General. Old Glory is about a young boy s grandfather being upset about a new law being passed and tries to protest about it, but similar to Harrison Bergeron, he also ends up getting killed by the government. • 9. Economic Development Of Hong Kong How can we situate colonialism within the broader globalization processes of industrialization and deindustrialization in Hong Kong? Globalization is manifesting itself as a result of colonial processes. The effects of Hong Kong s colonial history are still present as it is not its own independent city state and currently has semi autonomous rule under mainland China. After giving a brief history on colonial Hong Kong, I will be focusing on the Sino British Agreement of 1984 and its subsequent effects on the city s decolonization process, including democratization, economic development, and decolonization of the education system as compared to the predicted changes under the agreement. Hong Kong (HK) began as a British colony in 1842 as a spoil of victory from the Opium War (Chan Postiglione, p. 3). Its markets and ports were driven by regional trade and their strategic location. Hong Kong has since then become a cosmopolitan city state of global significance and serves as the gateway to trade with mainland China. Further, HK acts as a catalyst for the economic development of southern China, where HK industries employ manufacturing labour force workers in the neighboring Guangdong province. Hong Kong is therefore dependent on China s own economic growth and modernization, however, its successful free trade and market society are in contrast to its lack of a fully democratic form of government under British rule (Chan, Postiglione, p. 3). This one time isolated syndrome of eating disorders is now emerging as a place of importance in our society. Rhetorical Purpose: 2 One reason it is so important to understand how the rhetoric of popular media coverage of anorexia articles maintains women s marginalization is that The American Anorexia and Bulimia Association [AABA] (2001) estimates that five million U.S. women suffer from some form of eating disorder, 15 percent of Americans have eating disordered attitudes, and 1,000 people will die each year from eating disorders. From the spread of enlightenment ideology and the idea of true democracy, France was the centerpiece for radical political and social change in the 18th and 19th century. A bombing on a church that has led to the loss of life. Looking at it s history however, Randall forefronts all the emotions from the speaker with chilling diction and a rhythmic pattern of rhyming the second and fourth line of each stanza. It brings to life a darker truth, one that has yet to end. The poem begins first with a conversation between a mother and her daughter Mother dear, may I go downtown instead of out to play, and march the streets of Birmingham in a Freedom March today? This conversation occurred in 1963 Birmingham, Alabama at the height of the Civil Rights era with Martin Luther King Jr. leading marchers advocating for equality in one of the most racist places. The daughter asks her mother for permission to be a part of the movement but the mother denies her as she fears for her safety No, baby, no, you may not go, for the dogs are fierce and wild, and clubs and hoses, guns and jails aren t good for a little child. The mother is aware that black people are not treated fairly in society but is also aware of how those that try to retaliate against it are beaten near death or are seriously injured by dogs or pressurized hoses. • 15. A Geometric Parody of Victorian Society Fictitious elements in literature may be more realistic than one thinks and the concept of dystopia is no exception. Within the novella Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott, there exists a world known as Flatland . Flatland is a quaint world. It is a world where shapes act out the roles of various social classes, a world where everything is geometric. However, despite Flatland s mundane description upon closer inspection, it can be seen that Flatland s social hierarchy starkly resembles that of Victorian England, and with good reason too. In an attempt to bring about the reformation of the Victorian social ladder, Abbott chose to take a more passive approach and thus Flatland was born. Parodying the various downfalls of Victorian society, Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is an iconoclastic cleverly written satire that spotlights the many underlying flaws in the Victorian society. A rather mathematical society, each of Flatland s inhabitants take the form of a geometric figure. Men are represented as polygons such as triangles, squares, and pentagons. Women however, are represented as straight lines. With these two pieces of information and the fact that Flatland is a satire of Victorian society, one can infer that one s placement in Flatland s social hierarchy is based off the number of sides one has. In the realm of the censorship of books in schools alone, several hundred cases have surfaced each year for nearly the past decade. Controversies over which books to include in the high school English curriculum present a clash of values between teachers, school systems, and parents over what is appropriate for and meaningful to students. It is important to strike a balance between English that is meaningful to students by relating to their lives and representing diversity and satisfying worries about the appropriateness of what is read. Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools can give teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or leave it up to the teachers to judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999). Teachers are often very nervous about including texts that are not traditional or specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly publicized cases of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts and school systems (Agee, 1999). First Amendment Rights Relating to the Censorship of Books Censorship cases often bring about debates over students first amendment rights. Students first amendment rights are important to preserve so that students can not be excluded from meaningful works or literature. It is understandable for the government to design educational plans as a way to get its voice into classrooms, but the truth promoting function of the First Amendment provides no reason, however, to question the right of students to explore a variety of ideas and perspectives, and to form and express ideas of their own (Brown, 1994, p. 30). Schools already place a restriction on religious material or material addressing current political controversy (Brown, 1994). Main sequence stars like our own sun enduring in a state of nuclear fusion during which they will produce energy for billions of years by replacing hydrogen to helium. Stars change over billions of years. When their main sequence phase ends they pass through other states of existence according to their size and other characteristics. The larger a star s mass, the shorter its lifespan is. As stars move toward the end of their lives, much of their hydrogen will be converted to helium. Helium sinks to the star s core and raises the star s temperature causing its outer shell to expand. These large, puffy stars are known as Red Giants. The red giant phase is actually a prelude to a star shedding its outer layers and becoming a small, dense body called a White Dwarf. White dwarfs cool down for billions and billions of years, until they finally go dark and produce no energy at all. Once this happens, scientists have yet to observe, such stars become known as Black Dwarfs. A few stars avoid this evolutionary path and instead go out with a bang, exploding as Supernovae. These violent explosions leave behind a small core that will then turn into something called a Neutron Star or even, if the remainder is large enough, it is then turned into something called a Black Hole. It is something to be feared and respected. In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley utilizes the motif of lightning to represent the disastrous life Victor Frankenstein to shows how wrong choices can destroy lives. Victor Frankenstein led a difficult life struck by tragedies. Many catastrophes were marked by the appearance of lightning or the indication of lightning and electricity. The first appearance of this motif came very early in the novel, It was not splintered by the shock, but entirely reduced to thin ribbons of wood (Shelley 22). In the second chapter, Victor reveals that when he was 15, he discovered a tree that had been absolutely decimated. The tree was not destroyed by lightning in the stereotypical, jagged V shape way; instead, it was completely torn apart and shredded. The first lightning strike in the novel was one of great power and strength if it completely destroyed such an old and large oak tree. The first lightning strike was primarily intended as an element of foreshadowing. As one of the first intricate details related by Victor Frankenstein, it served the purpose of setting up the rest of the story. In a literal sense, the lightning served the function of taking away the life of a tree. It was a brief destructive force that carried a large consequence. Similary, Victor made a brief choice that led to much destruction. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cost Of Late Term Abortion Late Term Abortion By Kelsey Holm The Cost of Late Term Abortion We have seen a monumental amount of political and social activism coming from Pro life and Pro choice proponents in the 25 years following the Supreme Court s landmark decision in Roe v. Wade. Far from settling the issue of a woman s constitutional right to an abortion, the Roe decision galvanized pro life and prochoice groups and precipitated many small battles in what many on both sides view to be a war between fetal protection and women s access to reproductive choice (Oliveri, 1998). Now, the choice to abort a child in what is now being deemed as late term abortion is something that activists and political leaders are wanting. This argument goes beyond the political level and is now at the judicial level. This argument has even gone into the main streets of our society with each side gaining and losing ground. More recently, we have a presidential candidate who sides with Pro choice and late term abortion. Pro life activists staged peaceful, nation wide campaign of clinic protests to oppose this cause. The protests had to be peaceful because of violent conflicts that occurred in the past which led Congress in 1994 to enactment of the Federal Access to Clinic Entrances law (Oliveri, 1998). This law created specific civil and criminal penalties for violence outside of abortion clinics (Oliveri, 1998). State legislatures imposed limitations on the right to abortion, including ... The Nibelung Hero s Journey A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. He immediately hits it off with Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. • 37. Analysis Of Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning Another reflection on society was Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning; he was a perfect example of how writers used comics as a medium to address race. He was a black protégé who, due to his own series being cancelled, later became a member of Batman s Outsiders. He was the first black superhero in DC Comics to get his own title series and because of this, he could not avoid serving as a symbolic reminder of racial tokenism. Real name being Jefferson Pierce, a respectable schoolteacher, Black Lightning has the most cynical method of keeping his identity a secret. His pictorial representation proved that he lived up to the stereotype in wearing an afro wig as well as his textual representation in talking street slang , as this would enable him to keep his identity a secret and fit in with his black community. The use of black slang is a means for the white creator to explore a way of speaking that he would not usually experience and despite the words coming from Black Lightning, it was not a true black man s voice that was heard. The use of street slang works with his pictorial representation to exaggerate a distinction between his heroic identity and his civilian identity; slang not only has connotations of being less educated because it is informal, but as it is slang only used by the same social group, i.e black people, it once again places a large divide between whites and blacks. This aspect completely opposes his civilian identity, as he talks good English and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People have very strong opinions about it whether you are for it or against it. In this essay I will explain my views on the matter of Horse slaughter in the US. Horses have been a part of man s life for a very long time. The relationship between man and horse first began at the time of the horse s domestication between 4000 and 3500 B.C. They have been by our side to help us complete agricultural tasks as well as recreational uses for thousands of years. While the USDA may classify the horse as livestock, many Americans consider the horse to be something more along the lines of a companion animal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analysis Of Charles Dicken In Great Expectations Charles Dicken was a white, Christian man who ripped and tore his way up the social hierarchy, who turned his grimy rags into eternal riches. The fruit of his labor has been transcribed into dialects and languages that transcend Anglo Saxon society. He is crowned a prince of Victorian literature and the cerulean sapphire on his crown is his Great Expectations, a bildungsroman at its finest. First published by Chapman and Hall in 1861, it follows a boy s transformation into a man in a rotting industrial world. In the end, however, Great Expectations is a novel that exposes the incorporeal essence s ability to decay but also its resilience, its ability to change: even if a sentient being is barren of emotion, it can still bloom in the midnight sun. Pip is an orphan, bred in a land of thunderous skies and wetlands. He found his smile running through the emerald grass and his frown at his parent s headstones. This countryside was his womb, a misty bog that fed him and tucked him into bed at night. Indeed, Pip himself wails that he had seen the damp lying on the outside of [his] little window, as if some goblin had been crying there all night. . . The marsh mist was so thick, that the wooden finger on the post directing people to [his] village a direction which they never accepted, for they never came there was invisible to [him] until [he] was quite close under it. Then, as [he] looked up at it, while it dripped, it seemed to [his] oppressed conscience like a phantom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Federal Reserve Act, The U.s. Financial System Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of the legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal government during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the fact that the increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to large seasonal swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an attempt to rectify the shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New York Clearinghouse Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible for the settlement of payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only source at the time that had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a discount window or an open market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an adequate amount of liquid reserves to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the agricultural harvest cycles, when currency demands accelerated. In response to the most detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of wealthy bankers created the concept of The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central banking system. After prior failed attempts to enact the FRB in to law, wealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To determine the opportunity cost of capital, Marriott required three inputs: debt capacity, debt cost, and equity cost consistent with the amount of debt. The cost of capital depends on each division. In fact the evaluation of the WACC is an appropriate tool to calculate the cost of capital for the corporation as a whole and for each division. The cost of equity One of the two major component of WACC is the cost of equity. The cost of equity model takes into account three values which we must calculate a risk free rate (rf), risk premium rate (expected market return rf), and Beta Value. Before doing the calculations, we will justify our choices. We based it on the Stocks, Bonds, Bills and Inflation (SBBI). This workmanship is a standard reference source for business appraisers. It has been published annually since 1983. The beta value As it is said in the case, we already know the equity beta (0,97). But the capital structure (leverage) affects beta estimates. In order to eliminate the effect of leverage, we will calculate the asset beta, which reflects the sensitivity of the firm s assets abstracting from capital structure. That is why we have to convert the equity beta into the asset beta. Then we can calculate the equity beta without the leverage effect. To calculate the asset beta, we need the current debt value. The ratio D/V for the company is set at 41% so we can find the ratio E/V is set at 59%. It comes from the exhibit 3 which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Let s take a look at how president Abraham Lincoln reacted to this. After having done some research on this aspect, Abraham Lincoln was confident enough to be humble to not feel the need to bluster or dominate, but to be sufficiently sure of one s own judgment and self worth to really listen. A perfect example of trust, loyalty, and respect is revealed in a letter to Ulysses Grant. Lincoln writes, I now wish to make the personal acknowledgment that you were right, and I was wrong. How many of us, is brave enough to write our wrongs? Another example was on February 11, 1861, when Lincoln departed from Springfield to assume the presidency in March. At a railroad station he says his emotional farewell: My friends No one, not in my situation, can appreciate my feeling of sadness at this parting.
