The Impact Of Internet On The United States Of America
In the 1960s the government of the United States of America (USA) requested computer
scientists to conduct research into building communication via computer networks, (Wikipedia,
2016).This research gave rise to the origins of the internet which is now regarded as a global
computer network that provides a variety of information and communication facilities. This
global network consists of millions of different types of computers that maybe desktop or mobile,
hardwired or wireless and for personal use or for business, (Dewdney and Ride, 2014). Rapid
growth of internet use became evident in western countries such as North America in the mid 1990
s while this growth was evident from the late 1990 s in developing countries, (Wikipedia, 2016)....

In contrast, those industries such as film, music and news have experienced a very deep impact
because the core product can be downloaded privately. Of these three, Di Maggio (2014) state that
the music industry has been the most challenged by the internet not only in relation to distribution
but also production. Waterman and Ji (2014) argue that like the newspaper industry, the music
industry was negatively affected because it was slow to adapt and capitalise on the efficiencies of
digital distribution and purchase.
Before the internet and digitalisation the major record companies such as Time Warner, EMIgroup
and Deca used distribution methods that involved consumers listening to the radio, buying vinyl
records or audio cassette tapes at music retail shops, reading about the music and artists in
newspapers or music magazines attending concerts and watching musicians perform on
television, (Hracs, 2012). In order to listen to the recorded music, consumers needed to have
access to a radio, a player for vinyl discs or audiocassette tapes and a television. They also needed
to purchase music recordings in available form at retail shops. Music artists such as Diana Ross
and Nat King Cole signed contracts with the major record labels and relied on the services
provided by these companies to record, promote and distribute their music, (McLeod, 2005). The
companies provided specialised services such as technical skills, recording studios with sound

The Chief s Daughters And The Girl Who Was Not Satisfied...
It is human nature for people to always want more, but sometimes things are not as they appear.
Two Native American tales, The Chief s Daughters and The Girl Who Was Not Satisfied with
Simple Things, testify that just because it appears to be the best, does not mean it is as it
appears. Despite the fact the characters in The Chief s Daughters and The Girl Who Was Not
Satisfied with Simple Things are similar in their desires to have the best but get the opposite in
reality, they both receive help from old men, and both eventually end up back at home; the
characters differ because one character intentionally leaves her home whereas one does not, and
one listens to the old man and one does not. In The Chief s Daughters, one sister wishes to... Show

A very attractive stranger came about to take the girls hand and she accepted. He took her to his
home and asked her to put on a dress made of the same material of his clothes or she could not

and told her not to leave or be afraid of the things she might see. A horned black and yellow
serpent came in and stared at her, and when it left she looked outside to find the house
surrounded by serpents who she realized were her new husbands people and they could disguise
themselves as humans. Her grandpa came to her in a dream and told her to run and climb the
tall steep cliff at the edge of the village to escape and he would help her if she did not turn back.
When she awoke she did as he said, and when she reached the top of the steep cliff her grandpa
struck the serpents with lightning bolts. He told her she was brave, and that in the future he may
need her help again. After returning to her village she married a good man and had children and

Twain And Regionalism
Writing in the late 19th century, both Mark Twain and Ambrose Bierce were part of the Realism
literary period, which lasted from 1865 to 1900. Their writings, especially those of Twain, helped
to chart the course of American literature. Despite being in the Realism period, their stories are also
part of other eras. Writingmainly toward the beginning of the era and coming from a small
Midwest village, Twain was greatly influenced by Regionalism. Bierce, on the other hand, drew
much of his ideas from the period that followed Realism: Naturalism. While Mark Twainand
Ambrose Bierce both primarily wrote Realism, Twain s writings have a bent for Regionalism, while
Bierce s short stories lean towards Naturalism. Samuel Clemens, better known as... Show more

Bierce, however, has a Naturalist inclination. According to him, humans live in a vast and
completely indifferent universe which we cannot fully grasp or perceive (Williams). This very
concept is the essence of Naturalism, which features many of the varying details that are
common in Bierce s writings. One such detail is a use of grotesque but matter of fact details,
which is prevalent in Chickamauga, which includes a man that has a face that lacked a lower
jaw from the upper teeth to the throat was a great red gap fringed with hanging shreds of flesh
and splinters of bone (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ), as well as the dead body of a woman the
white face turned upward, the hands thrown out and clutched full of grass, the clothing deranged,
the long dark hair in tangles and full of clotted blood (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ). Bierce
also depicts war, fear, and death as unstoppable forces that make worms meat be [t]he finished
product of which we are the raw material (Bierce, Ambrose. The Devil s Dictionary). This idea of
the presence of great omnipotent powers that are beyond the understanding of humans is one
unique to Naturalism, and proves that he was strongly influenced by the Naturalism

A Career Goals For A Career In Medicine
It is common for a child to be asked: what do you want to be when you get older? For me, the
answer has always been the same. Growing up I became fascinated with medicine, and I knew
that I would have a career in medicine. My fascination began when my parents gave me a toy
telephone that said, Thank you for calling Dr. Johnson s office, how may I help you? and from
that point on my fascination slowly began to grow into reality. By me pursuing a career in
medicine, it will not only allow me to uphold my institution s motto of Culture for Service, but it
will allow me to provide health services to those who cannot help themselves. While I will be
satisfying my need to serve my community, I will also be achieving my career goal. At a young
age, my career goal was set, but not everyone accepted my decision. The response I received
from my grade school teachers and peers was negative and many suggested that I considered a
different career. My eighth grade English teacher even suggested that I chose a more realistic
career. If someone told me 10 years ago that I would graduate from an illustrious institution with
a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry, I would have laughed in their face. The odds were
never in my favor; my father is a high school dropout with a GED and my mother is a custodian.
Even with the odds against me, I fought to push forward, follow my dreams, and prove everyone
who doubted me wrong. Many times, I even doubted myself, asking Am I

An Analysis Of George Hayduke s The Monkey Wrench Gang
Para 1
In the book The Monkey Wrench Gang, George Hayduke is an ex green beret who had fought in
Vietnam. George joins a group of Eco terrorists known as the Monkey Wrench Gang and helps them
execute their plans to save the environment. George Hayduke talks to the group about his
experience in Vietnam late in the book, giving them insight into his mind. George s experiences in
Vietnam contributed greatly to how he acts throughout the book and who he is as a person.
Para 2 George s experiences in the jungles of Vietnam helped to shape his life moving forward.
The conditions he was put under within the jungles were terrible and brutal. George had been

After escaping Vietnam, he was in an Army rehabilitation center, he was only able to get out
because of his parents fighting for his freedom and the help of a United States Senator. His
character was affected so much in Vietnam that the Army labelled him as disabled and gave him
a disability pension every single month. I get a pension too. Twenty five percent disability.
Head case. One quarter lunatic... The army sure didn t want to let me go (360). The army did
not want to let Hayduke go specifically because they felt he was not suited for civilian life (359)
and feared that he would do something bad, such as join an eco terrorist group. It seemed that
some of the other members of the group viewed Hayduke as insane also. Doc says, A certifiable
psychopath if I ever saw one (360). Doc is referring to Hayduke in this statement. Even though
this statement is meant as a joke, Doc has some truth behind it as it backs up Hayduke s
shocking actions with events such as the train and later in the book when he fakes his own death.
Overall, Hayduke throughout the book had always craved violence. On multiple occasions he
asked if they could use guns or blow something up. Out of the entire gang, he seemed to be the
only one who had a strong desire to be outright destructive. This is because of his past in Vietnam,
he had experienced many violent things there, as a soldier and as a prisoner.

The Reflection Of Martin Luther s Theory Of Music
Unsurprisingly given what discussed so far, Luther had an extremely high view of music and of
what this could accomplish where this was true in particular with reference to the sphere of
worship and of church services . In this sense, he was of the opinion that by praising God in
music, the latter acted as a bridge allowing for the possibility of relishing God s absolute and
perfect wisdom, by seeing its reflection in his work of musicitself. Accordingly always in the
Preface to the Symphoniae Iucundae Luther presented music as something able to connect the
whole of creation with its creation. In Loewe s words, the Preface В«follows an arc that takes as
its origin the very beginning of creation and descends from God to those who have been given a
voice, in order to return to heaven through composed music: Luther explained that the praises sung
by his readers had the potential to take the singers straight back to heaven, and the ultimate origin
and goal of musicВ». Hence, by becoming consciously musical that is, by actively producing
music as opposed to just sounding we come to reflective express and formulate one the basic
aspects of creation . In this way, composed music amplifies and shapes natural music and another
belief which Luther shared with Herbenus this way conjoins the musica humana and musica
caelestis. Then, by being musical by producing music meant to be performed in church we turn
creation as it were, in the aspect of its musicality back to

What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord...
What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord
When we think of the name Lord as Christians we think of God, as he is powerful, almighty and
great. Jesus however was a human and to be called Lord is very special because no one in
history has been called that before. As Christians we would say the name Lord means miracle
worker, ruler and faithful. Jesus was mainly all these things as he performed many miracles in his
life which many different types of people benefited from which are recorded in the Gospels.
Many Jews thought of Jesus as a lord because he helped many of them; outcasts, Romans, women
and the rich ands poor and many others he helped in his life on Earth. Jesus truly was a ... Show

Have you still no faith? The disciples turned to one another and said,
Who is this man? Even the wind and waves obey him!
Jesus also had the power over death, which is also referred to in the Synoptic Gospels in the
story of Raising of Lazarus . When Jesus was leaving Judea he was told of one of his dear friend
being ill but was already dead, they returned to Judea even though many people attacked Jesus
before in this city. Him and his followers went to Lazarus tomb and Jesus said, Come out Lazarus ,
from the darkness emerged a man wrapped in grave clothes, they untied him and there was Lazarus
standing as if nothing was wrong.
[IMAGE]As Jesus was a Jew he helped many people of his religion but didn t believe entirely that
his religion was right. In Mark s Gospel a man named Jarius who was a leader of a Synagogue in
the area confronted Jesus, he said his daughter was dying and needed help, Jesus followed him
to his house where his daughter was resting. Jesus sat by the girl and said you are only sleeping,
wake up child . The girl awoke and started walking around the room. If Jesus has the power over
death he must be a man that we can call Lord as Christians.
Jesus helped many other people with his miracle powers, even women which was a strange thing in
those times as women were thought of as unequal to men and should not be treated the same. He

Roger Chillingworth Quotes
In chapters 9 and 10, Roger Chillingworth returns and renames himself with a whole new identity.
He made Hester swear to secrecy she wouldn t reveal whom he was. He reintroduces himself to
the town as being a doctor, which was an uncommon profession. Because of the lack of doctors, he
was warmly welcomed and wasn t questioned much. Reverend Dimmesdale is thin and sickly and
always clutches at his chest so Chillingworth becomes his hope for getting better. Though
Dimmesdale doesn t believe medicine can heal him, he caves and agrees to let Chillingworth help
him. The two men spend time together and Chillingworth believes that he should analyze the
reverend spiritually, physically, and mentally in order to cure him. Over time, they think it is a
good idea for them ot temporarily move in together, being that Dimmesdale wasn t married. Some
of the townspeople think it is wise but others start thinking Chillingworth has ugly and evil in his
face and that he has changed. Chillingowrth is dedicated to finding out who committed adultery
with Hester. I think this shows shis darker side that he would do anything to reveal whom his wife

believes he should only confess to Christ. Chillingworth gets impatient but after they fight, the two

to reveal something that excites him. To me, his secretive nature reveals his not so positive
intentions and the townspeople rightly suspect him of acting darkly towards the

The Social Gospel By John Lewis
The social gospel was the biggest inspiration and influence for Civil Rights leader, John Lewis.
Which is prevalent throughout the first two books, of the March trilogy, written by Andrew Aydin
and John Lewis himself. The Bible made its mark on Lewis when he was young farm boy. Leading
him to the social gospel which started him down the path of nonviolence, and longing not just for
personal reform but for social reform. As the Civil Rights movements became bigger, and as the
philosophy of which John Lewis taught spread, others were inspired by the social gospel. At a
very young age John Lewis love for the gospel was born. At the age of four his uncle gifted him
his first Bible for Christmas. Even though he was too young to read it for himself; the words that
his mother read to him, had a strong impact. He said, I ll never forget my mother reading aloud
to me the first words in that book In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Lewis
and Aydin March Book one 26). By age five he could read the Bible himself, and the messages
began to shape, and impact him even more. John Lewis then wanted to be a preacher, so he
began preaching to the chickens on his farm, with soulful messages. Blessed are the meek: for
they shall inherit the earth. [...] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Lewis and
Aydin March Book one 27). Little did he know, that what he preached to the chickens were
molding his future. Those words are what he was going to stand for, his morals. What he was
going to be known for, what will become his determination, and will drive him for years to
come. There was one verse in particular that did stand out to Lewis, John 1:29: Behold the lamb
of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (KJV). In this verse the lamb of God is referring
to Jesus, whom sacrifices himself to take away the sin of every person and save every person.
There is a strong connection between John Lewis and Jesus Christ. Foreshadowing, that John
Lewis believes his purpose is to liberate the lives of African Americans. The idea of the social
gospel was introduced to John Lewis for the first time when he heard Martin Luther King Jr. give a
sermon over the radio. Lewis stated: Dr. King s

Therefore, R D must focus on improvement in output quantity and quality. It must be driven by
the most knowledgeable and experienced human resources in organizations. Given the
fundamental importance of R D in the pharmaceutical sector, it is hardly surprising to note that
the U.S. drug industry spent between $ 30 40 billion each year in the period 1999 2005 towards
funding their respective research operations. Since the early eighties, U. S. industries have
always spent between 15 22% of their sales revenues towards R D activities. Pfizer spends
around $6 billion on R D every year. Successful new drugs (once approved, their manufacturing
costs are usually a small fraction of their price) generate a profuse cash flow which can readily
recover costs of past R D ventures as well as finance fresh ones. Alternative sources of
investment capital from the bond and stock markets are not perfect substitutes for cash flow
financing. Competition is a force that all players of the industry need to contend with and
overcome in order to thrive and develop. With easier access to cutting edge knowledge, capital
and other production factors, all companies are capable of developing some drugs which meet
today s people s medicinal demands in the context of lifestyle diseases, neurological disorders and

Northern Italy was divided between the duchy of Milan and the republic of Venice. After the death
of the last Visconti ruler of Milan in 1447, Francesco Sforza, one of the leading condottieri of the
time, turned on his Milanese employers, conquered the city, and became its new duke. Both the
Visconti and the Sforza rulers worked to create a highly centralized territorial state. They were
especially successful in devising systems of taxation that generated enormous revenues for the
government. The maritime republic of Venice remained an extremely stable political entity
governed by a small oligarchy of merchant aristocrats. Its commercial empire brought in enormous
revenues and gave it the status of an international power. At the end of the fourteenth century,
Venice embarked on the conquest of a territorial state in northern Italy to protect its food supply and
its overland trade routes. Although expansion on the mainland made sense to the Venetians, it
frightened Milan and Florence, which worked to curb what they perceived as the expansionary
designs of the Venetians. Besides the five major states, there were a number of independent city
states under the control of powerful ruling families that became brilliant centers of Renaissance
culture in the fifteenth century.

main types of potteryconstructed in ancient Egyptwere amphoras and pithos. Pottery in ancient
Egyptwas constructed with techniques similar to those used today, and was used to house large
stores of provisions, as well as storing small necessary items. The ancient Egyptian culture

amphora would often have handles on either side for both decoration and function (Reshafim).
The most notable thing about these common storage containers is how prevalent they were in

Wireless LAN Benefits and Applications
INTRODUCTION
Wireless networking has numerous benefits. Productivity remarkably enhances due to the higher
accessibility to the information resource. Network configuration as well as reconfiguration
becomes easier, quicker, and overall less expensive. Nonetheless, this technology also poses new
threats as well as brings change in the already existing profile of risk in the information security.
Explaining this terminology, as we all know that the communication occurs through the air utilizing
the radio frequencies, the inception risk are higher in comparison to the wired networks. In case the
messages are not encrypted, or just encrypted having a relatively weak algorithm, then the attacker
could very well read it, hence compromising the confidentiality of the data. Though, the wireless
networking changes the integrated risks with the various threats towards the security, the objectives
of overall security remain all the same as they are with the wired networks: confidentiality
preservation, ensuring integrity as well as maintaining the availability of information including
information systems. This paper deals in assisting the concerned users of the wireless technology in
performing sound decisions by inculcating them along with the basic understanding related to the
some associated threats with the wireless networking as well as their countermeasures.
The wide popularity of the wireless Networks is quite a testament relating primarily to their

leap in logic. Today, that error and other lapses in judgement have taken him down a dark road.
In 1992, Latrell Sprewell was a 1st round NBA draft pick by the Golden State Warriors, the 24th
player to go that year. During his time with the Warriors, he set records, made the All Star team 3
times, and led Golden State to the playoffs in 1994. He also showed off his rabid temper. In 1993,
he fought with teammate Byron Houston and in 1995 after a rumble with Jerome Kersey, he
famously retuned to practice with a 2x4 and threatened to get a gun. ... Show more content on

him and told him to stay away. As reported in Celebrity NetWorth, when the coach approached

nearly ten seconds before other teammates and coaches intervened. About 20 minutes later, after

The Mathematical Concept of Infinity
The implications of infinity (co) are actualiy not that old. The Greeks were some of the first
mathematicians recorded to have imagined the concept of infinity. However, they did not actuaily
delve into the entirety of this number. The Greeks used the term potentially infinite, for the concept
of an actual limitless value was beyond their comprehension. The actual term infinitywas defined by
Georg Cantor, a renowned German mathematician, in the late nineteenth century. It was originally
used in his Set Theory, which is a very important theory to the mathematical world. The value of
infinity can get a bit confusing, as there are different types of infinity. Many claim that infinity is
not a number. This is true, but it does have a value. So, infinity may be used in mathematical
equations as the greatest possible value. i The value of infinity Infinity (00) is the greatest
possibleivalue that can exist. However, there are different infinities that, by logic, are greater than
other forms of itself. Here is one example: to the set of ait Naturai numbers Z43, 2, 3, 4,...}, there
are an infinite amount of members. This is usualiy noted by Ko, which is the cardinality of the set
of alt natural numbers,
Likewise, in the set of ail Real numbers RU, 1.1, 1.11, 1.111,...} there are an infinite amount of
members as weli. This sets cardinality is represented by t or, as Cantor proved in 1874, N1. it there

Descriptive Essay On A Walk In The Park
A Walk in the Park A ways away from a town that I call home, I found a happy place. I often find
myself walking through the park by myself. The beautiful trees, the way the yellow and red
leaves crumple under my feet every step I take. When the flowers bloom and how it s the most
spectacular sight you could ever imagine seeing, all the different colors that appear. When you
breathe in and you get this smell of purity, you feel free and alive. Sometimes I like to sit on the
old wooden bench where the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my
eyes search the sky. In the winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like
sitting in front of an air conditioner and breathingin. Some mornings the sunbeams across the sky,
which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes
over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the
spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the
back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the
kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in sight. Walking through the trail full of mud
and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and
get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like
butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not
coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them
like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding
hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun
shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water
puts a joy to my face. I found a rest area with a bench and by it was a fountain. The ripple of
water and the singing that the birds formed made it peaceful to sit there and study the fountain. Just
appreciating the little things in life and realizing what all I have and have overcome is what the
park helps me

Essay on Robert Frost Mending Wall
It is no secret how Robert Frost feels about walls after reading his poem Mending Wall . To say
that Frost admired and favored walls would be a lie. On the contrary, based on his poem it is
apparent that he would prefer there be no walls present. I was led to ask myself, what type of
wall is Frost referring to? It is not merely a physical wall made of stone, but a barrier that people
place among each other to create an illusion of separation and protection. The style of the poem
makes it simple to read, however when you take a closer look into the poem, you discover a whole
new meaning. Frost uses a variety of techniques throughout his poem such as metaphor, symbolism
and imagery to help us understand his feelings and how those feelings... Show more content on

Isn t it/ where there are cows? But there are no cows here (Line 29 31). Ironically he also states, I
have come after them and make repair/ where they have left not one stone on a stone (Line 6 7).
He is otherwise saying that although he feels the repairing of the wall is unnecessary, in order to
maintain peace between his neighbor he will rebuild the unnecessary wall. It would make sense
to simply have Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to,
indicating that he too finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I
noticed about the style of the poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at
sideways gave the illusion of a wall with gaps. It is a series of lines which become a poem that is
written as a blank verse iambic pentameter. Each line consists of ten syllables with the exception
of Lines 8, 16, 24, 26, 27, 28, 37, 43, 45, which contain eleven syllables. At first glance it is easy
to overlook this detail, but once it is noted the question arises, what is the significance in these
particular lines? In lines 26 and 45 the neighbor says to Frost, Good fences make good neighbors ,
we also learn in line 43 that, He (the neighbor) will not go behind his father s saying . These
particular lines are important because they help us to understand that the presence of the wall is
something that was instilled in the neighbor. By taking note that the mending of the wall

Certainty And Doubt Research Paper
In life, there are many circumstances, in fact multiple in every second we breathe, where we must
make a decision or formulate an idea or position on a situation. Within the time of this decision,
there comes a point where there is a level of certainty and or doubt that persists. By definition,
certainty and doubt are antonyms; however, there can be relationship of certainty and doubt where
they are able to coincide with one another in a very fragile state, but as soon as a certain position
turns even slightly doubtful, the subject may never claim full certainty. In other words, once doubt
is presented, there cannot be total certainty. Confidence is a major factor in determining the
relationship between certainty and doubt. I personally have been through the course of certainty and

Vienna Settlement
1
Fourth History Test: How far did the Vienna Settlement contribute to maintaining the peace in
Europe in the period 1815 1914? The Vienna Settlement refers to a series of agreements made by
the European powers at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. As the peace terms with France had
already been decided by the Treaty of Paris (signed earlier on May 30, 1814), the Congress of
Vienna was mainly concerned with solving the problems brought about by the Napoleonic wars. To
solve these problems, the four European powers reached certain agreements at the Congress of
Vienna on June 9, 1815. These settlements, consisting of both territorial and political ones, were
commonly known as the Vienna Settlement. There were many factors contributing to... Show more

the Quadruple Alliance during 1818 22. Among these meetings, the Congress of Aix la Chapelle
contributed to peace. At this congress, the powers agreed to withdraw the army of occupation
from France and to admit France into the Quadruple Alliance. The former agreement removed
French hostility against the powers; while the latter showed that the Quadruple Alliance was not
directed against France. Both improved France s relations with other powers, and France was
longer a threat to peace. In these ways, the Congress System helped to keep peace. According to
the analysis above, there were at least two factors which helped to keep the peace of Europe in the
period 1815 1914 the Vienna Settlement and the Congress System. Undoubtedly, the parts of the
settlements made at Vienna in 1815 relating to encircle France with stronger buffer states and to
build a balance of power in Europe contributed to peace. On the other hand, the Congress System
also gave peace to Europe by removing any excuse from France to start a war of revenge on her
former enemies. Which one between these two was a more important one? As the Vienna
Settlement not only stopped France from future aggression, but it also provided Europe with a
more sustainable peace by creating an effective balance of power in Europe. In other words, the
Vienna Settlement removed two possible threats to peace

Examples Of Split Infinitives
Of the three verb classes, infinitives might be the easiest to understand, as it is the basic form of
the verb, without an infection binding it to a particular subject or tense (Oxford Dictionaries).
Speakers only need the basic understanding of a verb s meaning to simply use its infinitive form.
As the speaker s language develops, one begins to understand gerundand participle phrases later,
eventually even learning how to modify those sentences with modal verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
However, when one attempts to modify infinitivephrases, many professors to be incorrect, as a
mark of informality . Typically, when one modifies an infinitive phrase adjuncts are added

Additionally, with Byron s use of the split infinitive, the line mimics the excitement of
conversation rather than the seriousness of prose, allowing the reader to feel a larger emotional
response. Anne Curzan states that one of the largest myths about standard English is that it
always makes sense. She uses split infinitives as an example for this myth, as there is no clear
explanation for where the rule came from. However, despite some speakers proclamations
against split infinitives, Curzan (and Pullum in his previously mentioned article) state that split
infinitives clear more ambiguity than they add to a sentence. Examine the sentence: Tell her to
please be careful . If a writer rewrites the sentences to unsplit the infinitive, it changes what
exactly please modifies. For example, Please tell her to be careful , please now references the
listener rather than the her in question. If please is moved to follow careful , like Tell her to be
careful please it becomes ambiguous if the speaker is asking the listener please or still referring to
the other person. Keeping the infinitive split helps the listener understand that the speaker wishes
the person being referenced to be please be

A Plan For A University Facilities Project Manager
INTRODUCTION Teams, as discussed this semester, referred to individuals at one firm brought
together to, for example, complete a project, develop a new product, or define a new process.
However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of
individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the
principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy
the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager?
The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal
of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or
litigation (GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open
communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the
process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and
partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project ManagementBook of Knowledge
providing guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of
what is covered in partnering sessions. Yet in reviewing the Caltrans field guide, creating PMPs,
reading partnering articles, and participating in partnering sessions myself; the process is missing
something.

The Pros And Cons Of Pigeonholing
I have decided that since I am attempting to organize my thoughts into coherent and accordant
arguments, it is easier if each topic is framed as a question I can directly answer. The potential
downside of this approach is that I risk at making my responses too simplistic, forcing myself to
take a side. However, I am cognizant of that risk, and reserve the right to look at the potential
answers to each question as lying on a spectrum (or spectrums) of possibilities. I want to be able to
focus my topics without pigeonholing my responses.
There were a number of topics I considered for my first post. Even the process of brainstorming
helped me to categorize areas of interest and relative expertise. Looking at my groupings it is clear

If there is no objective reality, independent of our interpretation, then what is it we are sensing?
Why can separate people from different places and times look at the same thing and come to the
same conclusions? The only possible answer here is that there is something constant, objective, and
independent of their interpretation that exists. When I look at the night s sky and see the moon, it
usually looks light yellowish/cream coloured. Other people with slightly different biology and
experiences might see something slightly different, like light green perhaps, but certainly no one
sees a rainbow coloured unicorn. If they do, we would rightly conclude that there is something not
working properly somewhere. Even beings vastly different from ourselves might see something
vastly different than we see, but that would not change the truth that there is a moon there and it is
not a rainbow unicorn. Similarly, in my literature classes, I encourage my students to interpret the
works for themselves. However, if they want to argue that The Great Gatsby was actually set on
Neptune in the year 1734, they have a significant challenge ahead of them. There is a book there
with words that have meanings independent of their interpretation. This is the case for all of reality:
There is an objective truth there, and we bring our individual interpretations to

Bmc Recovery
Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to test the correlation of heart recovery rates post
exercise in both athletes and non athletes and determine which group had the faster recovery rate.
This was accomplished by selecting six non athletes and six athletes to run one lap around the
Fresno Pacific track for two days. Each participant s resting heartrate was taken before running the
lap and instantly after running the lap as well. Upon completion of the lap their heart ratewas
measured in thirty second intervals and it was noted how long it took to get back down to each

The subjects were given a survey on their health as to avoid injured or asthmatic variables. Also
they were all required to be in the healthy BMI range and the athletes were from one sport and
the non athletes had a strict definition of exercise as less than twice a week. However, a few
errors could have slipped through. For example when recording the participants heart rate. The
pulse was sometimes hard to locate requiring more time to look for it after their lap run and
perhaps lose data in the process. Another possible error that could have occurred was taking the
recovery times. The majority of the participant trials were done by one project partner making it
difficult to monitor the thirty second intervals while measuring and recording the heart rates as
well. In future studies these errors may be avoided by requiring all the researchers be present for
the experiment in order to secure more definitive results. Another issue that occurred was the
participants failing to show up, more so in the athlete group, which left a hole in hour
experimental data because we were unable to reach the intended six athlete total due to this issue.
Future researchers should attempt to have all the athlete and non athlete participants together at
one time for each day. This would avoid having to come back day by day and remember who did

Pop Culture Essay
Habitual Americans
From the newest music video to the latest Buzzfeed s Tasty recipe, Americans express themselves
through pop culture. What music someone listens to, who they follow on Instagram, what tweet
they retweet on Twitter: all reflects who someone is. Americans reflect themselves through pop
culture contrary to belief that pop culture creates Americans.
Barbie s and Legos: two of the most popular children s toys throughout the decades These toys
are always being remade in a new way and sold through advertising. The newest Legos are
always made to correspond with a movie coming to theaters near you. These toys are why pop
culture creates Americans as a society. Americans buy what they see on television, these products
then become popular , and eventually are owned in every household. Snuggies were once popular,
they were advertised during every commercial break, leaving everyone to feel like they needed
one. If these had not been advertised as much as they were, they would not have been popular.
Although Americans buy what they see as popular, it does not create who they are, only reflects
what is popular at the moment. Of course, someone is going to go buy, the newest invention or go
see the newest action movie in theater. The product interests the consumer into looking into it more.
If someone is partially awake at 3 am, they will turn on the shopping channel, where things you
thought had never been invented are sold. People are curious on what is out there.

Moll Flanders Morality
Sweeping generalizations made against a subgroup of the population have never favored well
within a historical perspective. Countless wars and revolutions were fought to discredit
generalizations because they are often either societal racism, sexism, or other maliciously
conceived fallacies. While the Fortunes and Misfortunes of The Famous Moll Flandersand
Company by Daniel Defoereflects many of the ideologies upheld by eighteenth century social
culture, the book also invokes some startling theories. The most disturbing and widely respected
synecdoche was that members of the middle class are morally inferior to those in higher classes.

As an infant, her life path was quite distorted. Moll states the first account that I can recollect, or
could ever learn of myself, was that I had wandered among a crew of those people they call
gypsies, a group of individuals that were widely looked down upon by the general public as
thieves and sinners (45). ] It is important to note, all of the misfortune that were recounted in the
former were not at the hand of Moll herself but instead at her mother s, yet her status in society
was lower because of them. In fact, Moll s lot in life had been damaged long before she could
even develop a moral standing. In a lucky twist of fate, Moll found herself in the care of a local
parsonage where she was placed in the care of a woman who taught her how to make a living for
herself as a seamstress. Individuals living in the middle class during the eighteenth century often
had outside pressures placed upon them that kept their social mobility stagnant; these outside
pressures, coupled with societal stereotyping, often lead to great resentment towards their
oppressors. For society to say that Moll was placed in the middle or lower class because of her
inferior virtue is unfounded, and this theme is reflected in Defoe s writing about Moll s early
beginnings.
It is indisputable that Moll s moral standing changes drastically to reflect the stereotypical
immorality of her class, however, after some reflection, it is

Reflection On Reading Comprehension
Introduction
Reading is one of the most beneficial activities a man can do. Out of reading, man can be able to
discover new things, concepts, places and people. More so, reading is a way to relax our mind and
soul, going deeply through the world of story and improves our thinking and internalization process.
Furthermore, reading opens the mind to new horizons and exposes a new experience. That s why,
whilst reading it also needs some sort of any other way of process, wherein man can read and
understand texts deeply. This so called other way of process is the outlining, that in such a way,
can be a tool for a meaningful reading comprehension.
An outline establishes an orderly relationship of facts or ideas. It is an essential tool and a time
saver. (De La Cruz and Aquino, 2008). It is the guide when reading or guide for writing a report.
Furthermore, outlining serves as a visualization of the ideas and information in an orderly manner.

Romeo is completely to blame for the tragic outcome in the play.
William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet is without doubt one of the most well known love
story. Throughout the five acts of the play, one tragedy follows another, with the famous suicide of
Romeo and Juliet as a tragic conclusion. Throughout the play, it may seem that Romeo caused these
events to unfold, however it is unjust to say that he bears all responsibility for the tragedy. The
decisions, actions and circumstances that other characters made and faced have also contributed to
the tragic outcome. Nevertheless, it is also in the hands of fate that destined the immature deaths of

However, chance and misfortune could ve been factors giving fate a helping hand. It could be
by chance that Romeo and Juliet were to meet at the ball. And it was unfortunate that the letter
could not reach Romeo as there is a plague spreading and Friar John was forbidden to leave
Verona. Before they were born Romeo and Juliet were chosen as agents of fate, and that it would
be a death marked love . Romeo himself admits that he is driven by fate: I fear too early for my
mind misgives / Some consequences yet hanging in the stars (Act1 Scene4 Lines106 107).
However, even if Romeo and Juliet did not meet at the Capulets ball, fate could make the star
crossed lovers meet at another time, as an important task has to be fulfilled as the result of this
death mark d love .
Another major factor in the play is the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues.
Without the feud, the young lovers may be together and may not have to act is such desperation
that had driven them to commit suicide. The feud has a direct impact on the actions characters
decide from the very beginning, thus, it is another important deciding factor regarding the outcome
of the play.
Because both Romeo and Juliet feel intense passion for each other, they behave in a very hasty and
dangerous manner. And despite Friar Lawrence s warning to Romeo: Wisely and slow, they

Relics Of Buddhism And Buddhism
Relics are thought to be present in Buddhism since the 5th Century B.C.E, when the original
Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, was said to have lived, and Buddhism itself was a new religion.
They continue today as sacred objects of worship. Relics that are as old as Buddhism itself are
said to exist and still be worshipped. Although the idea of relics may seem contradictory to many
of Buddhist beliefs, they actually do resonate with many ideals of Buddhist teachings and practices.
To see whether relics pose a contradiction between doctrine and practice, we first need to see
exactly what relics in Buddhismare. The word relic itself has many meanings including something
left behind , the body or bodily frame , constituent element or essential ingredient and many more
interpretations. In Buddhism, relics are body parts and/or any physical remains of a highly
regarded Buddha or monk. They are held in stupas, constructed dome shaped structures,
associated with Buddhas or other powerful beings. Relics are worshiped just as sacred objects
and other things in a temple would be. A large appeal of relics is that they are portable and are an
easy way to closer with the Buddha itself. When relics are present the Buddha is present, quoted
Schopen, describing just how connected relics are believed to be to these powerful beings. Relics
are, therefore, an important aspect of worship and relation to the Buddha in this religion. How then
could they be contradictory to the doctrine of

Integrated Social Sciences Personal Statement
One aspect that drew me to the Integrated Social Sciences program is how well rounded the
curriculum is. My goal in life is to become a travel writer, and having a wide breadth of
knowledge will only help me achieve that. The flexibility in learning and development through this
program is important to me not only because of my professional aspirations but my personal ones
as well. Learningabout other cultures and people has always been an interest of mine, being raised
in a multi ethnic household I searched for familiarity in an environment that was atypical of my
own. This led to an unrelenting curiosity in the world that persists to this day, and is what drives
me towards higher learning. Having previously worked and studied in computer science fields,
although finding the topics interesting, I realized that they did not fulfill my need for a wider
breadth of knowledge. Through the ISS major, I would be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I have experienced this multiple times throughout my life in both aspects, and this is a subject
that I feel very strongly on. Working in the STEM fields, where there is a predominance of men,
I experienced both classmates and professors treating me with disregard or open hostility. There
was often times a clear sense that I was not welcome. I have also experienced sexual assault
multiple times in my personal life, and I know several other women who have as well. Looking
back, I wish I would have had the strength and experience to stand up for myself in both
situations. While I cannot change the past, I can change the future, and in taking social science
classes I hope to gain knowledge that will enable me to help women around the world deal with
discrimination. Because I have been through these situations I realize how hard taking a stand can
be, but I hope to be a driving force in changing the conditions for women

The Socialization Of Lesbian Clients
One of the issues that should be addressed in treatment is the socialization that lesbian clients
participate in. In treatment, it is necessary to give any client tools for recovery. These tools should
include alternative activities that do not revolve around the getting and using of alcohol and drugs.
This may be a difficultly task when dealing with LGBTclients especially since there are not many
options for socialization besides bars, clubs, or parties. In Oklahoma there are about 333 thousand
same sex couples per the 2010 Census (The Williams Institute, 2011). Oklahoma has some
programs and organizations that give the LGBT community different opportunities where they can
meet other members without being surrounded by alcohol and drugs. Two main organizations are
specific geared towards lesbians. Herland offers social and educational services that focus on
lesbian issues but is offer to all women (Herland, 2008). Herland is an excellent organization to
recommend to lesbian clients located in Oklahoma. The second organization is known as
OKCLesbian. Additionally, OKCLesbian offers substitutions for socializations at bars, clubs, and
church. They often have large dinner events called Lez Eat where local lesbians can get together,
have fun, and enjoy a nice meal together. Giving clients different choices to socialize in sobriety
may perhaps increase their likelihood of staying sober and finding new friends to enjoy it with.

Boise Bridge Project Reflection Paper
As the Building a Boise Bridge project continues, I have really enjoyed getting to know the teachers
and students working on this project a little more! This project takes place at Taft Elementary
School, which is a public school in the Boise School District. Unfortunately, with the session on
Thursday the 5th being moved up to Monday the 2nd, I was unable to attend that week. But I was
able to attend the last session, and enjoyed catching up with the students and teachers involved with
this project.
The teachers who I have interacted with the most are Kelly Kolpitcke, and Sarah Wright. Megan

her yet. Kelley is a 5th grade teacher at Taft... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The students watched this video, then discussed what they thought were the important take aways.
The main points the teachers seemed to want the students to take away from that video is what
causes earth quakes, what are the strongest type of earthquake, and how do we measure earthquakes.
The second video the class watched, showed video footage of the aftermath of some earthquakes
that have happened in history. The video showed destruction of buildings, and how earthquakes can
cause tsunamis and the destruction that tsunamis also cause. The point of this video was to show
the students how important the engineering of building is, and got them to start thinking about
their own bridges and how they can withstand an earthquake. We did not directly discuss bridges
this week though, our focus was primarily on earthquakes.
When we broke up into our teams, my team was trying to answer two specific questions; what are
the effects of an earthquake? And can we build earthquake proof buildings. I worked with two
boys in the class, Kendall and Sean to help answer these questions. To answer these questions each
of the students had a laptop and used Google Classroom to access links to websites the teachers
provided to answer these questions. We discussed what the effects of an earthquake are, this
included destruction of buildings, fatalities,

Halloween was special for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was only the one I shared with Stacey.
I also received a record amount of sweets, money and fruit. I could not believe my luck. I think it
was down to Stacey s charm (even if she was Cruella Devil) or my not so genius, John Higgins
impersonation. That night just proved to be special. Stacey and I shared jokes, threw away
monkey nuts and knocked on over 100 doors. After it was decided we should go home, we started
our chocolate. Fireworks were being lit in my estate and were somewhat spectacular. I distinctively
remember hugging Stacey and being ecstatic. It seemed as though life was perfect. The fireworks
stopped.
Stacey suffered from really bad asthma. I know many people suffer from asthma and the severity
is wide ranging. I also know it s very rare for someone to die from an attack. Medicines are readily
available and in the 21st century, I wouldn t expect death as a consequence of asthma. Stacey s
asthma prevented us from playing as much football as we would have liked. I never for one minute
thought Stacey could ever suffer a fatal attack. I don t think many people think of the consequences
of the illness until the reality is riveted home through a tragedy.
The night before Stacey died, we both sat in her house discussing things as usual. I never once

Faith, Brown s wife, Faith represents he s actual faith in god. When Goodman Brown was
heading into the forest, he still has her, but as the story unravels it becomes clearer that Faith is
not who she seems. Hawthorne makes Faith seem young and innocent when he describes her: And
Faith, as the wife was aptly named, thrust her own pretty head into the street, letting the wind play
with the pink ribbons of her cap . Brown knew her as someone who he could trust and care for,
just like his actual faith in god. As the story goes on, Brown heads into the forest,

The Theme Of Unity In Revolutionary Summer, By Joseph J....
Unity in Revolution
Throughout the year of 1776, Americans developed ideas of independence from their mother
country, Great Britain, which turned into a necessary cause that was fought for. Revolutionary
Summer, by Joseph J. Ellis, goes into detail about the relationship between the Continental Congress
and the Continental Army during that summer. His work elaborates on the mistakes of American
leaders, as well as those made by Britain, and how they affected the war. Communication became
important on both sides, and it was vital for the colonies to agree on how to reach the common goal
of freedom. Ellis historical account of 1776 highlights the theme of unity and how it shaped the
events of that summer.

When it came time to battle at Kip s Bay, the soldiers ditched their knowledge and made it difficult
for them to fight with ease. Washington had attempted to establish order by instructing officers to
make a stand behind a stone wall, but the men just ran past him , which created further chaos (181).
The battle ended up being one of the lowest points in the whole war since the Continental Army had
failed to maintain their unity, which led to a disheartened group torn apart by agony. After uniting
in declaring independence, the different states within the colony were eager with their ability to
construct their own laws. They became too preoccupied with their own governments that they did
not work as one body to strengthen the Continental Army. Throughout the summer, although there
was The Cause , there was no such thing as We the people of the United States(114). There was
then a lack of soldiers, which made it difficult for the Continental Army to fight against their
enemy since they lost people quickly. The lack of unification between the states and their leaders
lead to losses on the battlefield in New York. There were still many people, especially in New
York and New Jersey, who remained loyal to the king despite the growing momentum for

Symptoms And Treatment Of Childhood Asthma Essay
Introduction
Twenty percent of children living in the South Bronx have been diagnosed with Asthma. Bronx
children (boys and girls) living in the vicinity of Melrose, Mott Haven, and Port Morris ages 5 12
years old have a higher percentage of hospitalization than children that reside within other inner
cities in the US. Children suffering from asthma encounter a recurrent cough, wheezing, shortness
of breath and decrease response to their medication. These children often are unable to participate in
physical activities, have increased absenteeism from school, are withdrawn and have decreased self
confidence. It is important that families are educated on the appropriate preventions and treatments
for asthma in order to prevent mortality. There are a number of contributing factors in the increase
of childhood asthma; for instance, sensitization of allergens, cultural beliefs, and environmental
factors, gas and diesel emissions due to the high volume of traffic from the interstates in the
surrounding areas. Furthermore, behavioral choices made by parents and other adults are added
factors in the increase of asthma rates in children; for instance, mothers that smoke during
pregnancy create higher risk for childhood asthma. Adults who smoke in their home, also in their
car, with children present, are contributors to the increased rate of asthma. Our target population is
African American/ Hispanic children ages 5 12 who live in the South Bronx, New York with low

The Awakening
Greetings, I was twenty four year Zach Adams, who lived a simple life. I wasn t dating and I lived
alone in a small apartment in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though everything changed overnight and
I gained three lives overnight night. Therefore, prepare to hear how I lived three lives and lost my

I had just been fired from my job because my company went bankrupt so it was a rough chapter of
my life. I barely slept at night because the stress overfilled my mind and drenched all my dreams
with insecurity. My body ached from this unknown, fear of what would happen and I felt like I hit

Panick. I opened the refrigerator and nothing was present to accept a gallon jug of water and a
half eaten bowl of beans. My eyes searched the room. Hours went by as I sat in a chair, hungry,
sweating. I will not go outside. I will not go outside! There s not a chance I would risk my life in
this strange environment. The last thing I did was fall asleep in my apartment, the situation wasn
t adding up. Laying in the cramped enclosed room, I stared at my dark skin and smelt my body
odor as sweat soaked me. After fourteen hungry hours of uneasy thinking spots appeared in my
eyes and the room starting spinning and before I could question it, I was out.
...You re the reason that he cries all the time! I woke up to voices yelling and screaming at each
other. The room was large and the air was cool. The furniture was fancy, including the bed which
I hopped out of revealing silk pajamas on my body. I was a little boy! I screamed. Pacing didn t
fill this void of confusion, so I undressed and opened the closet to see slacks, vest, ties, and only
name brand clothes. Sliding through the rack I grabbed a small collared shirt and put over a vest.
After I was dressed I ran into the huge bathroom and combed my hair but I wasn t planning on
using this strangers toothbrush. I stared in the mirror looking at my childish face of hurt and
disappointment. I walked out of the room and walked down the stairs to see two people, a man

  • 2. The Impact Of Internet On The United States Of America In the 1960s the government of the United States of America (USA) requested computer scientists to conduct research into building communication via computer networks, (Wikipedia, 2016).This research gave rise to the origins of the internet which is now regarded as a global computer network that provides a variety of information and communication facilities. This global network consists of millions of different types of computers that maybe desktop or mobile, hardwired or wireless and for personal use or for business, (Dewdney and Ride, 2014). Rapid growth of internet use became evident in western countries such as North America in the mid 1990 s while this growth was evident from the late 1990 s in developing countries, (Wikipedia, 2016).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, those industries such as film, music and news have experienced a very deep impact because the core product can be downloaded privately. Of these three, Di Maggio (2014) state that the music industry has been the most challenged by the internet not only in relation to distribution but also production. Waterman and Ji (2014) argue that like the newspaper industry, the music industry was negatively affected because it was slow to adapt and capitalise on the efficiencies of digital distribution and purchase. Before the internet and digitalisation the major record companies such as Time Warner, EMIgroup and Deca used distribution methods that involved consumers listening to the radio, buying vinyl records or audio cassette tapes at music retail shops, reading about the music and artists in newspapers or music magazines attending concerts and watching musicians perform on television, (Hracs, 2012). In order to listen to the recorded music, consumers needed to have access to a radio, a player for vinyl discs or audiocassette tapes and a television. They also needed to purchase music recordings in available form at retail shops. Music artists such as Diana Ross and Nat King Cole signed contracts with the major record labels and relied on the services provided by these companies to record, promote and distribute their music, (McLeod, 2005). The companies provided specialised services such as technical skills, recording studios with sound engineering, management, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Chief s Daughters And The Girl Who Was Not Satisfied... It is human nature for people to always want more, but sometimes things are not as they appear. Two Native American tales, The Chief s Daughters and The Girl Who Was Not Satisfied with Simple Things, testify that just because it appears to be the best, does not mean it is as it appears. Despite the fact the characters in The Chief s Daughters and The Girl Who Was Not Satisfied with Simple Things are similar in their desires to have the best but get the opposite in reality, they both receive help from old men, and both eventually end up back at home; the characters differ because one character intentionally leaves her home whereas one does not, and one listens to the old man and one does not. A horned black and yellow serpent came in and stared at her, and when it left she looked outside to find the house surrounded by serpents who she realized were her new husbands people and they could disguise themselves as humans. Her grandpa came to her in a dream and told her to run and climb the tall steep cliff at the edge of the village to escape and he would help her if she did not turn back. When she awoke she did as he said, and when she reached the top of the steep cliff her grandpa struck the serpents with lightning bolts. He told her she was brave, and that in the future he may need her help again. After returning to her village she married a good man and had children and always told them Be satisfied with simple ... • 4. Twain And Regionalism Writing in the late 19th century, both Mark Twain and Ambrose Bierce were part of the Realism literary period, which lasted from 1865 to 1900. Their writings, especially those of Twain, helped to chart the course of American literature. Despite being in the Realism period, their stories are also part of other eras. Writingmainly toward the beginning of the era and coming from a small Midwest village, Twain was greatly influenced by Regionalism. Bierce, on the other hand, drew much of his ideas from the period that followed Realism: Naturalism. While Mark Twainand Ambrose Bierce both primarily wrote Realism, Twain s writings have a bent for Regionalism, while Bierce s short stories lean towards Naturalism. Samuel Clemens, better known as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bierce, however, has a Naturalist inclination. According to him, humans live in a vast and completely indifferent universe which we cannot fully grasp or perceive (Williams). This very concept is the essence of Naturalism, which features many of the varying details that are common in Bierce s writings. One such detail is a use of grotesque but matter of fact details, which is prevalent in Chickamauga, which includes a man that has a face that lacked a lower jaw from the upper teeth to the throat was a great red gap fringed with hanging shreds of flesh and splinters of bone (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ), as well as the dead body of a woman the white face turned upward, the hands thrown out and clutched full of grass, the clothing deranged, the long dark hair in tangles and full of clotted blood (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ). Bierce also depicts war, fear, and death as unstoppable forces that make worms meat be [t]he finished product of which we are the raw material (Bierce, Ambrose. The Devil s Dictionary). This idea of the presence of great omnipotent powers that are beyond the understanding of humans is one unique to Naturalism, and proves that he was strongly influenced by the Naturalism ... • 6. A Career Goals For A Career In Medicine It is common for a child to be asked: what do you want to be when you get older? For me, the answer has always been the same. Growing up I became fascinated with medicine, and I knew that I would have a career in medicine. My fascination began when my parents gave me a toy telephone that said, Thank you for calling Dr. Johnson s office, how may I help you? and from that point on my fascination slowly began to grow into reality. By me pursuing a career in medicine, it will not only allow me to uphold my institution s motto of Culture for Service, but it will allow me to provide health services to those who cannot help themselves. While I will be satisfying my need to serve my community, I will also be achieving my career goal. At a young age, my career goal was set, but not everyone accepted my decision. The response I received from my grade school teachers and peers was negative and many suggested that I considered a different career. My eighth grade English teacher even suggested that I chose a more realistic career. If someone told me 10 years ago that I would graduate from an illustrious institution with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry, I would have laughed in their face. The odds were never in my favor; my father is a high school dropout with a GED and my mother is a custodian. Even with the odds against me, I fought to push forward, follow my dreams, and prove everyone who doubted me wrong. Many times, I even doubted myself, asking Am I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The army did not want to let Hayduke go specifically because they felt he was not suited for civilian life (359) and feared that he would do something bad, such as join an eco terrorist group. It seemed that some of the other members of the group viewed Hayduke as insane also. Doc says, A certifiable psychopath if I ever saw one (360). Doc is referring to Hayduke in this statement. Even though this statement is meant as a joke, Doc has some truth behind it as it backs up Hayduke s shocking actions with events such as the train and later in the book when he fakes his own death. Overall, Hayduke throughout the book had always craved violence. On multiple occasions he asked if they could use guns or blow something up. Out of the entire gang, he seemed to be the only one who had a strong desire to be outright destructive. This is because of his past in Vietnam, he had experienced many violent things there, as a soldier and as a prisoner. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Reflection Of Martin Luther s Theory Of Music Unsurprisingly given what discussed so far, Luther had an extremely high view of music and of what this could accomplish where this was true in particular with reference to the sphere of worship and of church services . In this sense, he was of the opinion that by praising God in music, the latter acted as a bridge allowing for the possibility of relishing God s absolute and perfect wisdom, by seeing its reflection in his work of musicitself. Accordingly always in the Preface to the Symphoniae Iucundae Luther presented music as something able to connect the whole of creation with its creation. In Loewe s words, the Preface В«follows an arc that takes as its origin the very beginning of creation and descends from God to those who have been given a voice, in order to return to heaven through composed music: Luther explained that the praises sung by his readers had the potential to take the singers straight back to heaven, and the ultimate origin and goal of musicВ». Hence, by becoming consciously musical that is, by actively producing music as opposed to just sounding we come to reflective express and formulate one the basic aspects of creation . In this way, composed music amplifies and shapes natural music and another belief which Luther shared with Herbenus this way conjoins the musica humana and musica caelestis. Then, by being musical by producing music meant to be performed in church we turn creation as it were, in the aspect of its musicality back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord When we think of the name Lord as Christians we think of God, as he is powerful, almighty and great. Jesus however was a human and to be called Lord is very special because no one in history has been called that before. As Christians we would say the name Lord means miracle worker, ruler and faithful. Jesus was mainly all these things as he performed many miracles in his life which many different types of people benefited from which are recorded in the Gospels. Many Jews thought of Jesus as a lord because he helped many of them; outcasts, Romans, women and the rich ands poor and many others he helped in his life on Earth. Jesus truly was a ... Jesus also had the power over death, which is also referred to in the Synoptic Gospels in the story of Raising of Lazarus . When Jesus was leaving Judea he was told of one of his dear friend being ill but was already dead, they returned to Judea even though many people attacked Jesus before in this city. Him and his followers went to Lazarus tomb and Jesus said, Come out Lazarus , from the darkness emerged a man wrapped in grave clothes, they untied him and there was Lazarus standing as if nothing was wrong. [IMAGE]As Jesus was a Jew he helped many people of his religion but didn t believe entirely that his religion was right. In Mark s Gospel a man named Jarius who was a leader of a Synagogue in the area confronted Jesus, he said his daughter was dying and needed help, Jesus followed him to his house where his daughter was resting. Jesus sat by the girl and said you are only sleeping, wake up child . The girl awoke and started walking around the room. If Jesus has the power over death he must be a man that we can call Lord as Christians. Reverend Dimmesdale is thin and sickly and always clutches at his chest so Chillingworth becomes his hope for getting better. Though Dimmesdale doesn t believe medicine can heal him, he caves and agrees to let Chillingworth help him. The two men spend time together and Chillingworth believes that he should analyze the reverend spiritually, physically, and mentally in order to cure him. Over time, they think it is a good idea for them ot temporarily move in together, being that Dimmesdale wasn t married. • 11. The Social Gospel By John Lewis The social gospel was the biggest inspiration and influence for Civil Rights leader, John Lewis. Which is prevalent throughout the first two books, of the March trilogy, written by Andrew Aydin and John Lewis himself. The Bible made its mark on Lewis when he was young farm boy. Leading him to the social gospel which started him down the path of nonviolence, and longing not just for personal reform but for social reform. As the Civil Rights movements became bigger, and as the philosophy of which John Lewis taught spread, others were inspired by the social gospel. At a very young age John Lewis love for the gospel was born. At the age of four his uncle gifted him his first Bible for Christmas. Even though he was too young to read it for himself; the words that his mother read to him, had a strong impact. He said, I ll never forget my mother reading aloud to me the first words in that book In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Lewis and Aydin March Book one 26). By age five he could read the Bible himself, and the messages began to shape, and impact him even more. John Lewis then wanted to be a preacher, so he began preaching to the chickens on his farm, with soulful messages. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. [...] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Lewis and Aydin March Book one 27). Little did he know, that what he preached to the chickens were molding his future. Those words are what he was going to stand for, his morals. What he was going to be known for, what will become his determination, and will drive him for years to come. There was one verse in particular that did stand out to Lewis, John 1:29: Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (KJV). In this verse the lamb of God is referring to Jesus, whom sacrifices himself to take away the sin of every person and save every person. There is a strong connection between John Lewis and Jesus Christ. Foreshadowing, that John Lewis believes his purpose is to liberate the lives of African Americans. The idea of the social gospel was introduced to John Lewis for the first time when he heard Martin Luther King Jr. give a sermon over the radio. Lewis stated: Dr. King s ... Therefore, R D must focus on improvement in output quantity and quality. It must be driven by the most knowledgeable and experienced human resources in organizations. Given the fundamental importance of R D in the pharmaceutical sector, it is hardly surprising to note that the U.S. drug industry spent between $ 30 40 billion each year in the period 1999 2005 towards funding their respective research operations. Since the early eighties, U. S. industries have always spent between 15 22% of their sales revenues towards R D activities. Pfizer spends around $6 billion on R D every year. Beginning in Italy, the Renaissance was an era that rediscovered the culture of ancient Greece and Rome in the fourteenth century and witnessed a continuation of the economic, political, and social trends. Jacob Burck hardt, a swiss historian and art critic, created the Renaissancein his celebrated book The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy, and published in 1860. After the death of the last Visconti ruler of Milan in 1447, Francesco Sforza, one of the leading condottieri of the time, turned on his Milanese employers, conquered the city, and became its new duke. Both the Visconti and the Sforza rulers worked to create a highly centralized territorial state. They were especially successful in devising systems of taxation that generated enormous revenues for the government. The maritime republic of Venice remained an extremely stable political entity governed by a small oligarchy of merchant aristocrats. Its commercial empire brought in enormous revenues and gave it the status of an international power. At the end of the fourteenth century, Venice embarked on the conquest of a territorial state in northern Italy to protect its food supply and its overland trade routes. Although expansion on the mainland made sense to the Venetians, it frightened Milan and Florence, which worked to curb what they perceived as the expansionary designs of the Venetians. Besides the five major states, there were a number of independent city states under the control of powerful ruling families that became brilliant centers of Renaissance culture in the fifteenth century. Egyptians have been making pottery since far before the pyramids, and were one of the first peoples to make pottery (Quatr). Two of the main types of potteryconstructed in ancient Egyptwere amphoras and pithos. Pottery in ancient Egyptwas constructed with techniques similar to those used today, and was used to house large stores of provisions, as well as storing small necessary items. The overall shape of the amphora differed greatly. From wide shallow bowls for serving food in the kitchen or banquet hall to small jugs that held beer, wine, or water for drinking (History). Explaining this terminology, as we all know that the communication occurs through the air utilizing the radio frequencies, the inception risk are higher in comparison to the wired networks. In case the messages are not encrypted, or just encrypted having a relatively weak algorithm, then the attacker could very well read it, hence compromising the confidentiality of the data. Though, the wireless networking changes the integrated risks with the various threats towards the security, the objectives of overall security remain all the same as they are with the wired networks: confidentiality preservation, ensuring integrity as well as maintaining the availability of information including information systems. The Greeks were some of the first mathematicians recorded to have imagined the concept of infinity. However, they did not actuaily delve into the entirety of this number. The Greeks used the term potentially infinite, for the concept of an actual limitless value was beyond their comprehension. The actual term infinitywas defined by Georg Cantor, a renowned German mathematician, in the late nineteenth century. It was originally used in his Set Theory, which is a very important theory to the mathematical world. The value of infinity can get a bit confusing, as there are different types of infinity. Many claim that infinity is not a number. This is true, but it does have a value. The beautiful trees, the way the yellow and red leaves crumple under my feet every step I take. When the flowers bloom and how it s the most spectacular sight you could ever imagine seeing, all the different colors that appear. When you breathe in and you get this smell of purity, you feel free and alive. Sometimes I like to sit on the old wooden bench where the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my eyes search the sky. In the winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like sitting in front of an air conditioner and breathingin. Some mornings the sunbeams across the sky, which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in sight. Walking through the trail full of mud and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water puts a joy to my face. On the contrary, based on his poem it is apparent that he would prefer there be no walls present. I was led to ask myself, what type of wall is Frost referring to? It is not merely a physical wall made of stone, but a barrier that people place among each other to create an illusion of separation and protection. The style of the poem makes it simple to read, however when you take a closer look into the poem, you discover a whole new meaning. It would make sense to simply have Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to, indicating that he too finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I noticed about the style of the poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at sideways gave the illusion of a wall with gaps. It is a series of lines which become a poem that is written as a blank verse iambic pentameter. Each line consists of ten syllables with the exception of Lines 8, 16, 24, 26, 27, 28, 37, 43, 45, which contain eleven syllables. At first glance it is easy to overlook this detail, but once it is noted the question arises, what is the significance in these particular lines? In lines 26 and 45 the neighbor says to Frost, Good fences make good neighbors , we also learn in line 43 that, He (the neighbor) will not go behind his father s saying . These particular lines are important because they help us to understand that the presence of the wall is something that was instilled in the neighbor. By taking note that the mending of the wall ... The Vienna Settlement refers to a series of agreements made by the European powers at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. As the peace terms with France had already been decided by the Treaty of Paris (signed earlier on May 30, 1814), the Congress of Vienna was mainly concerned with solving the problems brought about by the Napoleonic wars. The former agreement removed French hostility against the powers; while the latter showed that the Quadruple Alliance was not directed against France. Undoubtedly, the parts of the settlements made at Vienna in 1815 relating to encircle France with stronger buffer states and to build a balance of power in Europe contributed to peace. How might the principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager? The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation (GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open communication among the participants. Why can separate people from different places and times look at the same thing and come to the same conclusions? The only possible answer here is that there is something constant, objective, and independent of their interpretation that exists. When I look at the night s sky and see the moon, it usually looks light yellowish/cream coloured. Other people with slightly different biology and experiences might see something slightly different, like light green perhaps, but certainly no one sees a rainbow coloured unicorn. If they do, we would rightly conclude that there is something not working properly somewhere. Even beings vastly different from ourselves might see something vastly different than we see, but that would not change the truth that there is a moon there and it is not a rainbow unicorn. Similarly, in my literature classes, I encourage my students to interpret the works for themselves. However, if they want to argue that The Great Gatsby was actually set on Neptune in the year 1734, they have a significant challenge ahead of them. Moll states the first account that I can recollect, or could ever learn of myself, was that I had wandered among a crew of those people they call gypsies, a group of individuals that were widely looked down upon by the general public as thieves and sinners (45). ] It is important to note, all of the misfortune that were recounted in the former were not at the hand of Moll herself but instead at her mother s, yet her status in society was lower because of them. In fact, Moll s lot in life had been damaged long before she could even develop a moral standing. In a lucky twist of fate, Moll found herself in the care of a local parsonage where she was placed in the care of a woman who taught her how to make a living for herself as a seamstress. Individuals living in the middle class during the eighteenth century often had outside pressures placed upon them that kept their social mobility stagnant; these outside pressures, coupled with societal stereotyping, often lead to great resentment towards their oppressors. For society to say that Moll was placed in the middle or lower class because of her inferior virtue is unfounded, and this theme is reflected in Defoe s writing about Moll s early beginnings. It is indisputable that Moll s moral standing changes drastically to reflect the stereotypical immorality of her class, however, after some reflection, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relics Of Buddhism And Buddhism Relics are thought to be present in Buddhism since the 5th Century B.C.E, when the original Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, was said to have lived, and Buddhism itself was a new religion. They continue today as sacred objects of worship. Relics that are as old as Buddhism itself are said to exist and still be worshipped. Although the idea of relics may seem contradictory to many of Buddhist beliefs, they actually do resonate with many ideals of Buddhist teachings and practices. To see whether relics pose a contradiction between doctrine and practice, we first need to see exactly what relics in Buddhismare. The word relic itself has many meanings including something left behind , the body or bodily frame , constituent element or essential ingredient and many more interpretations. In Buddhism, relics are body parts and/or any physical remains of a highly regarded Buddha or monk. They are held in stupas, constructed dome shaped structures, associated with Buddhas or other powerful beings. Relics are worshiped just as sacred objects and other things in a temple would be. A large appeal of relics is that they are portable and are an easy way to closer with the Buddha itself. When relics are present the Buddha is present, quoted Schopen, describing just how connected relics are believed to be to these powerful beings. In treatment, it is necessary to give any client tools for recovery. These tools should include alternative activities that do not revolve around the getting and using of alcohol and drugs. This may be a difficultly task when dealing with LGBTclients especially since there are not many options for socialization besides bars, clubs, or parties. In Oklahoma there are about 333 thousand same sex couples per the 2010 Census (The Williams Institute, 2011). Oklahoma has some programs and organizations that give the LGBT community different opportunities where they can meet other members without being surrounded by alcohol and drugs. Two main organizations are specific geared towards lesbians. Herland offers social and educational services that focus on lesbian issues but is offer to all women (Herland, 2008). Bronx children (boys and girls) living in the vicinity of Melrose, Mott Haven, and Port Morris ages 5 12 years old have a higher percentage of hospitalization than children that reside within other inner cities in the US. Children suffering from asthma encounter a recurrent cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and decrease response to their medication. These children often are unable to participate in physical activities, have increased absenteeism from school, are withdrawn and have decreased self confidence. It is important that families are educated on the appropriate preventions and treatments for asthma in order to prevent mortality. There are a number of contributing factors in the increase of childhood asthma; for instance, sensitization of allergens, cultural beliefs, and environmental factors, gas and diesel emissions due to the high volume of traffic from the interstates in the surrounding areas. Furthermore, behavioral choices made by parents and other adults are added factors in the increase of asthma rates in children; for instance, mothers that smoke during pregnancy create higher risk for childhood asthma.
