Project Management
I think I may of made a slight error when planning my work as I started the robot design with little to go by
which included with not making a table with my robot ideas as that would of helped me considerably with
my robot’s design progression. But overall it has turned out quite well considering my small fault.
Research and Ideas Generation
When coming up with ideas to use for my robot it was clear what I could use including features from
“I-Robot” and General Grievous from “Star Wars” I used these ideas to interpretate those features that I
would put into place on my robot sidekick, as I started generating the ideas it came clear to me what my
robot would like but only certain features suited what I wanted it to look like when it came to designing it
on modeller.
Drawing Techniques
I think it was quite straight forward when drawing up my ideas as it is a lot more simplified as I was
drawing something mechanical which would be a lot easier than drawing a organic model, so I was able to
come with a couple of ideas of what my robot would look like and was able to draw it with a substantial
amount of detail.
Adobe Photoshop
When using Photoshop it was very simple to use as I already had experience using it beforehand which gave
me a slight advantage when tasks involved using this program, Photoshop was great when I was editing
images which helped me be able to improve of my work that involved using Photoshop.
Adobe Illustrator
As illustrator is fairly similar to Photoshop it was quite easy to adjust to this new program as it is also used
for editing images.
NewTek Light Wave - Modeller
When I first used modeller it seemed rather complicated with all the tools used in the program, but as I
went through a number of tutorials it came clear to me on how to design above average models and when
going through each tutorial video it reinforced my knowledge on how to use modeller as I designed a
hammer, 3D rifle, a bat and finally a robot sidekick, I rather enjoyed using this program as It allowed me to
design 3D models but not in high detail which is a bit unimpressive.
Assignment Structure – Ask yourself the following questions:
Are you clear about the timescale available?
Yes but as there is a number of units it is very time consuming trying to complete each one of them to a high
enough standard.
Do you understand what elements of the unit are being assessed?
Yes as I have looked through the assignment brief which explains what targets that must be met in order to
get top grades in my work, this gives me a sense of urgency to get each unit done so I can acquire the
grades that I want.
Do you understand the scenario and the reasons for carrying out the assignment?
Yes as it gives me experience in each of the programs which will help me in the future when I am doing my
final units.
Have you visited the Second Life community and the SL Market Place? What are your impressions?
I looked at a gameplay video and it takes a social simulator to extreme measures as a game reviewer was

2. video recording gameplay of second life and was threatened a number of times to be kicked from the server
as his character was bumping into everyone, so my impression of this game would be stay clear of it as it
seems rather dull and is just a free and slightly more in-depth version of “The Sims” Franchise in terms with
building things.
What is your goal for this assignment?
My goal Is to create a robot sidekick that will implemented into the game Second Life.
Constraints – What is going to cause you problems in this project (technical, time, legal and ethical issues etc.) and what will you
do to solve these problems?
The main problem that I can clearly see would be time as in some cases we are not given enough time in
terms with design robot sidekick as I would like to do great amount of detail of what my robot would like.
