A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

HOW I USED MEDIA TECHNOLOGY IN MY ADVANCED PRODUCTION
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
Daniel Joda
2. List of all media technologies that we
used
Nikon D610 DSLR
Adobe Premiere CS6
Adobe Photoshop CS6
Adobe InDesign CS6
YouTube
Prezi
Slideshare
KiteLearning
VEM Machine (Video
Editing Machine)
3. Nikon D610 DSLR
Using the “Nikon D610 DSLR” has been critical in filming our short film
because the quality of the camera adds a level of professionalism because
of the 1080p videoing. Whilst we were filming I had to bring a pack of
rechargeable energizer batteries. The reason for this is because we would
be filming for a long time, so it would only be wise for us to bring two
packs of fully charged batteries.
Another benefit from using this camera is by the type of shots we were
able to take, for instance we were able to focus on certain characters, to
show the characters importance. For instance, when the main gangster is
walking and the rest of them are in background attacking one of the mafia
members.
4. Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
I used Adobe Premiere Pro in order to edit our footage. The first
screenshot is of when I had put the footage together and then exported
it.
The second screenshot is when I had inserted a voiceover of the
antagonist speaking.
The third screenshot is when I reduced the speed of that specific shot in
order to maintain the suspense.
5. Adobe Photoshop CS6
Photoshop was the software I used to create my short film poster, masthead and also my
mood boards.
When creating my film poster on Photoshop I knew that there were many requirements that
I had to fulfil. This could only be done using Photoshop. For instance, the silhouette element
was done using “colour overlay”. Another element that I used was the use of the steel tongs
font which is important when creating a film poster because it is a typical convention.
Furthermore, using this software was not as difficult as other because I had been using it for
3 years. In addition.
I used Photoshop to create my mood boards because Photoshop is the best way of grouping
images and also much more flexible in terms of the sizes I want to the images to be.
6. Adobe InDesign
I used Adobe InDesign because it is the conventional software to use
create a double page spread and in terms of the technical aspects of the
software it is good to use because I am able to control the size of my
margins, columns and gutter. This is important because it would look
specialist which was one of my initial intentions I was trying to get across.
In addition, looking at the screenshot below what I was able to do is
include images and graphics I created using Photoshop and simply insert
it on InDesign.
7. Presentation Software
YouTube – YouTube is an integral part of this
course because everything I did during the process
of filming is I put on YouTube, for instance all the
development work, where we filmed and also why
we filmed.
8. Presentation Software
Slideshare – I used Slideshare for the planning and
evaluation stage as it straight-forward to use. In
addition because it is free and online it is easily
accessible all the times. Furthermore, I can embed
it on my blog which improves the way my blog is
presented.
9. Presentation Software
Prezi – I also used Prezi for my planning and evaluation. Prezi once again is
a free online based application which means I can use it all the time. In
addition, the application is much more interactive this is ideal because it
is important to be using interactive software's to show my flexibility with
different software's. I also used Prezi to present our pitch to our
teacher, the reason for using Prezi is because of the interactivity.
10. Using The VEM (Video Editing
Machine)
We used this machine because it is ideal for the task we are doing. For instance
looking at my screenshot what I was doing was going on YouTube to see how to
create sound effects and whilst I was watching it, I was applying it within our short
film. This is why having a two monitors side by side is so effective.
11. Conclusion
To summarise, to complete this Advanced Production
to a very good standard there needs to be a diverse
amount of software's that should be used in order to
create a film and also all the planning and evaluation. I
believe I have achieved this as I used different
presentation software’s and when it came to creating
the film and the ancillary task I used the specialist
programme Adobe. As it was specialist however, I
knew I still had many skills to learn so going to people
for help and watching videos was very beneficial and
that is seen through the products I have created.
