- Agriculture is an important part of the economy in Gujarat state, with around two thirds of the population engaged in farming and relying on it for livelihood. - The state faces issues from variations in rainfall, including droughts that impact crop growth and floods that can destroy standing crops. Major crops like groundnuts and cotton are affected. - The government is implementing strategies to improve agriculture, such as providing soil health cards to farmers, promoting irrigation techniques, ensuring access to inputs, and connecting farmers with experts through various programs.

1. AGRICULTURE OF GUJARAT STATE GREEN REVOLUTION

2. The total Geographical area of the state is 196.12 lacs hectares. The Net cultivated area is about 94.99 lacs hect. Out of which about 36.27 lacs hectares are under irrigation. Two third of population in Gujarat is engaged in agriculture and earn livelihood directly from this occupation

3. There is a wide variation in rainfall . Stress, Shortfall of rainfall during initial crop growing stage affect the crop growth. Heavy rain after long dry spell also affect the standing crops and also soil erosion . Heavy rainfall and Flood destroy the standing crops. Crops like sugarcane, paddy, tur, jowar & maize etc are affected due to heavy rain. Two main crop of the state - Groundnut and cotton are affected due to stress & resulted in lower production Problem of Leptospiroses disease arise .

4. Some part of Gujarat is affected in coverage of irrigation due to less availability of irrigation water.

6. Implementation of village wise crop plan . Contingency plan during stress and flood condition. Provide technical guidance to the farmers at proper time. Farmers also benefited under different agriculture development scheme.

8. (i) The entire production programmed has been designed according to natural resources available in various Agro climatic zones. (ii) To increase the coverage under quality seeds / planting material. (iii) To increase crop planting density with the help of latest technologies (iv) Bridging the gap between demonstrated yield and average yield. Encouraging the shift from high volume low value crop to low volume high value crop.

9. STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING THESE RESULT Judicious use of irrigation potential. Saving of 30 % irrigation water by adopting drip and sprinkler irrigation system and there by increasing the irrigation intensity. Easy ,assured and timely availability of quality agricultural inputs especially in remote and tribal areas. Encouraging plant protection through integrated pest management.

10. STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING THESE RESULT Promoting the use of biotechnology and organic farming for enhanced value addition. Facilitating high tech agriculture with greenhouse, tissue culture, drip irrigation etc. To disseminate information of modern technology and related infrastructure through transmission of creative real time agricultural practices though mass media. Direct link to farmers by the means of video conferencing. Regularly press notes about current issues for crop production given in vernacular news papers by agriculture department.

11. STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING THESE RESULT Focused special programs for tribal area and for small and marginal farmers to raise their income level above poverty line. Coordination with non-Government organization. Giving Soil Health Card to individual farmer. So that farmer can aware about soil, fertility status & use of fertilizer & by this way, knowing about soil, farmer of Gujarat should planned for crop in advanced. It will be helpful for planning for rabi crops.

20. NEW INTERVENTION- VILLAGE WISE CROP PLANNING BASED ON SOIL ANALYSIS The aim is that the farmers get better knowledge for crop production technique and diversification. Strengthen crop diversification with law value added to high value added crops with the use of soil health card programme. Farmers data bank would be created under this programme.
