John Milton Cage Influence On Society
The classical period was a revolutionary start of music for decades to come. Many composers prior to
the 1920s gained their fame and fortune through music and their creativity in composing. John Milton
Cage, Jr. was born in Los Angeles on September 5th in 1912. Cage was the son of John Milton Cage,
Sr., an inventor, hence the creativeness yet to come through his music. In 1928, Cage graduated from
Los Angles High School with the intent to pursue a degree in writing. Cage studied about two years at
Pamona College, travelled Europe for around eighteen months, and then resumed school at UCLA. He
discovered at The New School in New York and at UCLA, whilst studying with Richard Buhlig,

Cage began experimenting with music by placing screws and plates between the strings of a piano to
generate different sounds, known as the prepared piano . He also experimented with tape recorders,
record players, and radios, finding the music around him in the simplest objects, otherwise not
considered instruments by the typical composer or musician. After realizing his makeshift instruments
were not what he needed, he began brainstorming ideas for new instruments. Pieces such as Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 and Water Music were just a few examples of his creativity in music. For Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 Cage used twelve radios played at once to create this composition. Water Music was
created by combining shells and water to form a masterpiece. Cage used unimaginable items such as
kitchen gadgets, metal sheets, various common objects, and even silence to create a discovery no other
composer had considered before. Through his music, he turned the everyday sounds we hear into
something so much more. He performed with his percussion ensemble in New York at the Museum of
Modern Art in 1943. This was the start of a life long musical career to call his

Managing Cash Flow Management ( Cfm )
Managing Cash Flow
Cash Flow is composed of revenue or expense streams that change cash accounts over a specified
period. The statement of cash flows showing the amount of cash generated and used by a company
during the period is calculated by adding noncash charges (such as depreciation) to net income after
taxes. Changes in cash are usually derived from one of three activities financing, operations or
investing.
Sales growth can conceal many problems. When managing a growing company, watch expenses
carefully. If you see expenses growing faster than sales, examine costs carefully to find places to cut
or control them.
The lag between the time you have to pay your suppliers and employees and the time you collect from
your customers can be a problem. The solution is cash flow management (CFM). CFM means
delaying disbursements of cash as long as possible while requiring anyone who owes you money to
pay it quickly.
Rules (FASB) that govern the creation of financial statements are not about tracking the actual flow of
cash through your business. They are focused on measuring profit or loss.
Income does not tell you what happened to your cash balance during the period. It merely defines net
income based on the accounting rules used to create the income statement.
Only one component of understanding and managing your cash flow.

Draft Guidance Paper
Study Details
The study selected by this author centers around ethical and oversight issues concerning standard of
care interventions received by participants in research studies. So as to address recently arisen
concerns regarding key aspects of regulation and oversight of standard of care interventions executed
during trials, the office for human research protections (OHRP) solicited comments from experts on
what has been termed as Draft Guidance (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2015, pp. 1 3).
The report focuses on one particular issue involving the determination and communication of all the
reasonably foreseeable risks that are associated with participating in a trial compared to receiving
standard of care interventions. The OHRP and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) produced a document entitled Draft Guidance on Disclosing Reasonably Foreseeable Risks in
Research Evaluating Standards of Care ( Draft Guidance ), so that comments and expert opinions
could be gathered on the subject (IOM, 2015). As a result, an IOM sponsored workshop was convened
to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders about the ethical issues surrounding study design and

Artificial intelligent models (AIMs) have been successfully adopted in hydrological forecasting in a
plenty of literatures. However, the comprehensive comparison of their applicability in particular short
term (i.e. hourly) water level prediction under heavy rainfall events was rarely discussed. Therefore, in

Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency
services to take actions to minimize flood damages.
Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help
to provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment
response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger
flood forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and
hydrodynamic models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected
key locations known as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams
near urban areas that have a history of flooding.

game that uses one 52 deck card and is played up to a max of 10 players per table. Players buy in a
certain amount of cash in exchange for chips and use them to play. Players are dealt two cards each,

he or she can still win by bluffing the other player. Bluffing is a bet made by a player in an attempt to
try and make other players fold their cards. Bluffing can be a risky move because you are betting with
no hand, and if a player has good cards and call your bet, you might lose. Therefore, doing a bluff bet

Analysis Of Big Two Hearted River By Ernest Hemingway
Big Two Hearted River , a semi autobiographical short story by Ernest Hemingway, is a story about
the main character, Nick, returning to Big Two Hearted River in order to recover from his inner
wounds. Nick Adams goes on a journey alone in nature for a therapeutic purpose as he suffers from
PTSD. However, Hemingway purposely avoided any direct discussion regarding to Nick s mental
wounds. The absence of the discussion is contributed by Hemingway s writing style, the Iceberg
principle. Hemingway focuses explicitly on what occurs on the surface without mentioning actual
theme. This indicates that the theme of self healing cannot be uncovered by simply looking at the text
itself. In order to comprehend the actual theme of the story, the character development of Nick must
be examined. This is possible since Nick Adams is a recurring character of Hemingway s stories. The
two preceding stories of Big Two Hearted River , Now I lay me and A Way you ll Never Be , directly
discusses Nick s suffering from shell shock and how he comforts himself by returning to Big Two
Hearted river in his mind. The two short stories will be analyzed and connected to Big Two Hearted
River in the essay first. This will provide a strong understanding of Nick s psyche and the reason
behind his return to nature. Then, Big Two Hearted River the short story itself will be carefully
analyzed. The dozen of the Nick Adams stories allowed Nick to develop his character from a child to
an adult. The

Globalization and Human Welfare
International free trade has become the foundation of neoliberal globalization. The main organizations
for carrying out free trade are World Trade Organization (WTO) established on 1995, International
Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB). The main aim was to promote development and trade.
Trade has become the lens through which development is perceived, rather than the other way round .
The concept of trade evolved right from Adam Smith and David Ricardo who introduced the concept
of comparative advantage which compares the productiveness across countries. Here countries make
use of their natural resources, climate, skills etc. According to Paul Krugman trade reflects arbitrary or
temporary advantages resulting from economies of scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World trade has grown five times in real terms since 1980, and its share of world GDP has risen from
36 percent to 55 percent over this period. During the 1990s more Asian countries were integrated into
the trading system. The developing countries have been catching up with or surpassing high income
countries in their trade openness, reflecting the widespread convergence of low and middle income
countries trade systems toward the traditionally more open trading regimes in place in advanced
economies . Globalization measures distinguish between trade and financial openness and include
both de facto and de jure measures. Specifically, trade openness is measured by the (unweighted)
average tariff rate ( de jure measure), and the ratios of both non oil exports and non oil imports to GDP
( de facto measures). Financial openness is measured by the Chinn Ito index of capital account
openness ( de jure measure), the ratios of various types of financial liabilities (foreign direct
investment, portfolio equity, and debt) to GDP and the stock of foreign direct investment assets
expressed as a percentage of GDP ( de facto measures). The latter, which is closely associated to
offshore, outsourcing, may be particularly relevant to measure the impact of globalization on
inequality in advanced countries, while its value is minimal

Autry Museums
In Autry article, she stated that how national histories marred by racial conflict can be translated into
narratives of group identity formation (Autry, 57). Autry is trying to say that museums is a sacred
place of memory and trauma. When traveling through these museums the author notice that the most
common themes were capture and displacement from Africa, enslavement, and racial segregation
(Autry 64). When she notices that these were the three main topics being shown to the public then it s
a major problem. She felt that the museums had too much power because they were choosing certain
information to be displayed about the struggles of African Americans. The author wants to show that

Therefore, the museum can thrive. She explains that identities are performed ideologies interrogated
and cultural symbols reinvented (Autry 60). The author is trying to say that certain items are displayed
in a museum for a reason by trying to send a certain message. When she talks about how cultural
symbols are reinvented it shows that museums is trying to change the people s perspectives by
creating a new meaning for a certain symbol. Another problem that the author has noticed is that some
parts of the African American culture are disappearing because for example there was a city s decision
to invest in a new commercial enterprise, rather than supporting smaller, more locally oriented
museums. (Autry 75). The government does not support the local museums than it causes issues
because some of the history is lost. The memory is lost from the local regional area, which could have
added a new perspective towards a certain standpoint. While the new museums don t necessarily tell

Ige Antibodies Live On The Surface Of Cells
IgE antibodies live on the surface of cells that are specifically designed to be involved in the
inflammatory response, mast cells and basophils. Mast cells are found predominantly in your surface
tissues (tissues close to the external environment) such as in your skin and in the mucous membranes
of your nose. Once the IgE has attached itself to an allergen, it sets off a series of events within the
cells that lead to degranulation, which is the process that releases molecules from vesicles that
regulate immune responses. Amongst these molecules is histamine.
According to Nordqvist (2015), histamine causes effects on the body by binding to histamine
receptors. There are four types of histamine receptors, H1 H4, but the main receptor ... Show more

Another symptom caused by histamines, shortness of breath and asthmatic like wheezing, when

Antihistamines alleviate the effects of histamine on the body, hence their name antihistamine. Taking
an antihistamine drug such as Claritin, Allegra, or Zyrtec prevents these effects. The drug races to the
H1 receptor and competes with the histamine. The histamine cannot bind wherever the drug binds,
therefore the histamine can t cause any irritating effects. It s always better to take an antihistamine
drug before you come into contact with an allergen. That way the antihistamine will have a higher
chance of binding to to the receptor than the histamine does. Antihistamines usually don t have side

The first generation of antihistamine drugs, such as diphenhydramine, crossed the BBB almost

as second generation antihistamines, have been modified to prevent them crossing the BBB as easily.

Theme Of Glory And Grief In The Iliad
A flip of a coin
In the midst of the bloodshed caused by discord between two mighty empires, the characters of Homer
s Iliad are exposed to the multifaceted essence of warfare and thus experience both the feelings of
glory as well as grief. In this way, we can compare the nature of war to that of a coin. When flipped to
kleos, fame achieved through exploits in battle, the characters experience an increase in social status
and earn admiration from their people. When flipped to the other side, the characters grieve for the
death of their loved ones caused by the violence of war. As the bard who recites an intricate and heart
wrenching story concerning love, loss, and warfare, Homer shapes his narration around the poignant
sentiments instigated by the duality of war which results from the rabid pursuit of glory. A central
theme is the struggle between everlasting kleos and a long life without glory is what encapsulates the
dual nature of warfare, which creates heroes but also brings loss to families and devastation to
societies.
(Giles 55). By illustrating both of the stories that result from a single event, Homer balances the
dualistic aspects of glory and grief to communicate that glory and grief are an inevitable result of
fundamentally flawed human nature.
Homer centers the two reactions to war, glory, and grief, mostly around the two most celebrated
warriors of their respective people, Hector, and Achilles. Through his narration, the audience is aware

Business report Executive summary As the world gets intricate and complex courtesy of new trends
and social waves, no sector of life seems to be left behind. The hospitality industry is faced with one
of the greatest challenges ever and all attention and focus is certainly geared toward addressing
customer satisfaction. However, without efficient information systems and proper technological
applications, the whole efforts are always insufficient or wasted. The need to upgrade systems and
improve operations is the main strategic objective of most restaurant executives. This report is
therefore an analysis of the need to apply the modern information systems in the industry and embrace
the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm across the
world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting demand to
radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation is inevitable.
Introduction In an increasingly competitive global environment, where the search for opportunities
dominates all other undertakings, where resources are less than those who seek them, it becomes
important to find ways and means of sailing through. Businesses across the world are increasingly
responding to these challenges by applying information systems to enhance performance and

Slash and Burn
Slash and burn is the cutting down of trees and burning them before new seeds are sown so that a
particular piece of land can be cleared. This is a problem that has gone on since after the stone age,
this process makes the soil less fertile and its hard for more plants to grow and fruits and vegetables
we eat become harder to grow. The affected area will desertificate and nothing can grow there and the
damage is permanent or the farmers have to wait until the soil is fertile again but this can take a really

him to differentiate between different companies, so the customers just chooses what is the most

The World Is Better With The Industrial Revolution
Improved transportation was one of the many reasons why the world is better with the Industrial
Revolution. Not only did the Industrial Revolution provide England withnew inventions, it developed
a more efficient way for people to travel. People no longer had to worry about their horses, and the
stress, that came along with it, in order for them to travel far places. The Stem Engine, at 20 mph,
transported goods and groups of people much fatse frm one place to another. The steam enine has also
introduced new ideas to the industrial cities. For example, as stated in Steam Engines, it says The
introduction of steam engines improved productivity and technology, and allowed the creation of
smaller and better engines. After Richard Trevithick s

Stress In Australia
Work life is becoming more demanding and unpredictable, which is why more people are dealing with
stress, with 53% of Australian employees feeling under pressure a significant amount of the time.
Businesses need to place systems to help employees cope and manage stress. Managers should be
aiming to create an environment from being stressful to challenging and rewarding. Stress is defined
as an adaptive response to a situation that is perceived as challenging or threatening to a person s
wellbeing (McShane, Olekalns and Travaglione, 2013), it is a condition that effects humans both
physiologically and psychologically. The effects and the causes of stress can vary greatly from person

Stress is a reaction to changes and adjustments in ones environment; they may be physical, mental or
emotional responses. Geoff Colvin in his article on reducing stress lists the main workplace stressors
in order; Workload, people issues, juggling work/personal life then lack of job security. Stress can end
up being the costliest of all work related illnesses, Safe Work Australia found that mental stress is
costing Australian companies more than $10 billion annually due to decrease in productivity and
increased absenteeism. There have been many studies over the years on the effects stress has on health
both mentally and physically. Stress can be linked to all sorts of illnesses and diseases such as heart
disease, strokes, immune disorders, disabilities of the nervous system, cancer, depression, anxiety and
many more. Stress leads to job dissatisfaction, lack of motivation, decreased job performance, changes
in behavior that in turn increases absenteeism. Sarah Carmichael in her article for Harvard Business

Health Disparities In Underserved Populations
An underserved are a population group that experiences significant health disparities. Health
disparities are differences in health status when compared to the general population, often
characterized by indicators such as higher incidence of disease and disability, increased mortality
rates, lower life expectancies, and higher rates of pain and suffering.
Rural risk factors for health disparities include geographic isolation, lower socio economic status,
higher rates of health risk behaviors, and limited job opportunities. Higher rates of chronic illness and
poor overall health are found in rural communities when compared to urban populations.

People in underserved areas of the United States have higher rates of chronic disease than people in
urban areas. They also have higher rates of certain types of cancer, from exposure to chemicals used in

A lot of rural patients who work as farmers or contractors or in family owned businesses don t have

people don t come in for preventative check ups or unless they absolutely need to, which can turn
minor health issues into more severe problems that require extensive treatment? We try to make

Persons having a usual source of care are more likely to obtain preventive, primary, and specialty care

What Is The Relationship Between Bill And Bud s Life
There are more than three billion people living on Earth; however, not everyone adores each other. On

Human Organs Should Be Banned
Why wait your life in anticipation for a human organ when you could purchase the right match and
start living your life? Day in and day out people around the world pass away before they can even
have the chance to live. Usually the waiting list exceeds the amount of organs available. Nevertheless,
the sales of human organs should be legalized in the hopes that people have a chance to live.
Organ sale for example, allowing or encouraging consenting adults to become living kidney donors in
return for money has been proposed as a possible solution to the seemingly chronic shortage of organs
for transplantation. Many people however regard this idea as abhorrent and argue both that the
practice would be unethical and that it should be banned. This entry outlines some of the different
possible kinds of organ sale, briefly states the case in favor, and then examines the main arguments
against.
The expression organ sale covers a wide range of different practices. People most readily associate it
with the case in which one individual (who needs or wants money) sells his or her kidney to another
(who needs a kidney). But there are other possibilities too. One (in countries where the prior consent
of the deceased is required for cadaveric organ donation) is to pay people living now for rights over
their body after death. Another (in countries where the consent of relatives is required for cadaveric
organ donation) is to pay relatives for transplant rights over their recently

I had spent about a year researching various places to move and I identified Gainesville as a great
place, a conclusion also reached by Money Magazine in 1995. One of the reasons I thought
Gainesville would be a good move was the low cost of housing. My first purchase was a mobile home,

closing that saved me $2,500 on what was supposed to be a $28,000 transaction. The mortgage was

dollars would not buy the attached house with the postage stamp sized backyard I grew up in. I also

Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses
horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also
the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear
and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his
characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick
escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival.
Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts
that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part
of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In
groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit.
(Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a
treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the
possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness
in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped
upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from
the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds
upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick
thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape
without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits
through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I
feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. At
length, with a wild desperation at heart, I quickly unclosed my

1.1.0 Cancer, a global health problem
Cancer is an important global health issue which affects millions of people annually and burdens
national health systems. Despite modest reductions in the incidence of certain cancer types, overall the
prevalence of cancer is increasing worldwide (1). It has been estimated that approximately 14.1
million people were diagnosed with cancer, in 2012 (2). The increase in cancer incidence is attributed
to various causes such as the increase in population age as well as daily life habits which include
obesity, poor diet, smoking and alcohol consumption (1).
Oesophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the sixth highest cause of cancer related
mortality. Oesophageal cancer results in high fatality rates, with a calculated 400,200 deaths out of

military commanders to face challenges outside that of military combat operations. One of the more
challenging operations that Joint Force Commanders face, is that of responding to natural disasters.

There are however, several restrictions that prevent the military from being able to directly respond to
foreign or natural disasters inside the U.S borders. A formal request for aid must be generated through
the Department of State for foreign aid (JP3 29, 2014). Likewise, a request for federal assistance must
be made from the state to the President prior to military forces are authorized to respond to a domestic

The Moment I Walked Into St. Mary s Cathedral
From the moment I walked into St. Mary s Cathedral, I felt out of place. I thought that I would know
what to expect since I have gone to Lutheran churches my entire life. To start with, I was unsure what
to do with the font of holy water when I walked to into the cathedral. I later found out that people who
enter are supposed to dip their fingers in it, and they are to make the sign of the cross with their
fingers. Then as I saw others approach their pews they did some sort of one legged kneel before sitting
down, which I unsuccessfully attempted. Once the service started, I became increasingly lost. I have
grown accustomed to following along to the liturgy in either a bulletin or a book, but there were
neither to be found. The priest would say phrases from his service book, and then everyone in the
congregation would respond with what I assume to be memorized responses. The only times I
absolutely knew what was going on was during the hymns and the readings due to both of these being
in the hymnals in the pews. To make matters worse, there were various portions of the worship service
such as the Apostles Creed or the Lord s Prayer where I thought I knew what to say, but the wording
would end up different. Finally, I had heard before that Catholics kneel a lot during services, but I was
not prepared at all for the length of kneeling that occurred once the priest started the part of the service
related to the Eucharist, better known to me as Holy Communion.

The Necessary Qualities Of A Good Democratic Citizen Essay
The necessary qualities of a good democratic citizen require an individual to recognize an injustice
within the law, actively oppose that law, and to do so regardless if that unjust law affects the citizen
personally. Rousseau, Emerson, and Douglass all agree that freedom and equality are natural rights
endowed to all humans. However the three authors diverge in consensus when envisioning the
necessary qualities of a good democratic citizen, such as the position from which each author is
theorizing, a citizen s obligation to the state, and the moral implications of slavery. Douglass s view of
a good democratic citizen is superior because, unlike Rousseau and Emerson, Douglass is able to
theorize from the position of a free black man and is therefore able to recognize the intersections of
race and inequality within the law and politics.
Rousseau is theorizing from the concept of the general will, which promotes individuals to become
conscious citizens who actively participate as a community to form policies for a governing structure.
The general will advocates for a commitment to generality, a common interest that will unite all
citizens for the benefit of all. Rousseau states, each one of us puts into the community his person and
all his powers under the supreme direction of the general will; and as a body, we incorporate every
member as an indivisible part of the whole (Rousseau 61). The general will is an expression of the law
that is superior to an individual s

Transnational Corporations And Human Rights Violations Essay
Introduction
This essay s thesis is that there is currently a lack legal apparatuses that can be used to hold
transnational corporations liable for human rights violations; specifically violation of labour rights.
This paper seeks to discuss various legal instruments that are applicable to transnational corporations
and human rights violations. It will also provide theoretical framework for understanding the nature of
human rights and legal framework of labour laws. This essay will address the following questions:
What is the legal status of transnational corporations? How can current legal apparatuses be used to
hold transnational corporations accountable for human rights violations? This essay will also consider
the case of human right violations by Nike Corporation in order to show that external pressures can
produce development and accountability.
2. Transnational Corporations
Current legal mechanisms of accountability fail to account for the fluid nature and power of influence
that transnational corporations possess. Transnational Corporations are not static in nature and have
tremendous economic and political influence over government policies. These factors result in a lack
of due diligence for transnational corporations to uphold human rights. TNCs are economic and legal
entities. In theory, TNCs are subject to the law of a country, to the jurisdiction of its courts, but often
this is abandoned by the government of countries. TNCs have tremendous influence

Use Of Dark And Light In Macbeth
The tragedy of Macbeth tells a tale of a man s ambition for power and rise to it. Many scholars
consider Macbeth to be Shakespeare s darkest work. Shakespeare is known for his use of imagery,
similes, and metaphors in his work. Dark and light, a strong motif in the tragedy of Macbeth, is often
used not only in literature, but in everyday life to contrast good and evil. People often associate
darkness and dark things with evil and death, while the opposite applies to light. Light is most often
associated with good tidings, heaven, God, and life. In Macbeth, both dark and light are both used as
symbols and signs that something good or bad is about to happen. The use of dark and light begins in

The Farewell of Telemachus and Eucharis by Jacques Louis David
This painting is an oil on canvas. It was painted by Jacques Louis David in 1818. It is depicting a
couple from Fénelon s novel, Les Aventures de Télémaque, which was inspired by Homer s Odyssey.
This painting was about a young mythological couple who were madly in love with each other.
Telemachus, the son of Penelope and Odysseus, and Eucharis a daughter to the goddess Calypso were
so strongly in love with each other, that they were absolutely devastated when the lover s learned that
they were going to be torn apart. The viewer sees Eucharis draping over Telemachus before he leaves

Economic Systems, Capitalism And Socialism
Economic Systems
People can use economic systems to build empires and destroy civilizations. The society s featured in
the books 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury did just that. Both took
advantage of some form of an economic system to achieve their respective goals. Whether it be the
command economy of Oceania, or the overly consumerist economy of the dystopian United States,
they both employed economics to their benefit. Economics is the science of scarcity. Scarcity is when
you have a population with unlimited wants coupled with limited resources. Economics deals with the
production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. An economic system is how a
society deals with these factors. The three main questions that an economic system is supposed to
answer are what will we produce? how will we produce it? who gets it? Answer these questions and
you have an economic system (Hettige). This report will cover the two main economic systems,
capitalism and socialism.
Capitalism
Capitalism promotes private ownership of the means of production, or resources, to produce goods
and services for profit. In other terms, private entities purchase resources; be it labor, natural
resources, or factories to create goods to sell for profit. Capitalism promotes that people build up their
own wealth and that all, or most, available resources be privately owned. Production in capitalism is
controlled by supply and demand and individuals purchase products on

The Immortality of the Soul in Plato s Phaedo Among Plato s dialogues, which serve to honor the
realm of philosophy in general and Socrates s life in particular, the Phaedo dramatically and
poignantly portrays the death scene of Socrates. The Phaedo evokes such tragic sentiments of pity and
fear while at the same time glorifies Socrates as the martyr for the truth. He dies because of human s
injustice yet faces his own death with extraordinary serenity and fearlessness; he devotes his whole
life for philosophy and in fact practices it until the last minutes. In this dialogue, the philosophical

David Bostock in his book Plato s Phaedo tries to examine the theory of the forms and Plato s
metaphysics:
In both it emerges that it is a crucial point about the form of P hood that it is unambiguously P, which
is to say that it is P and is not also in any way not P . . . For the form is contrasted with the perceptible
objects that are P, on the ground that they always combine being P with being not P, which is why they
are said to fall short of it (195).
These forms are much like the perfect templates and standards in which ordinary humdrum things can
only participate in to varying degrees. For example, there s nothing in this world that s perfectly
beautiful, and yet for all that, we can think about beauty itself. We might say those physical objects are
somewhat, or partially beauty because they partake of beauty to varying degree, but none of them
should be confused with Beauty itself. Another example is our mind can grasp the idea of perfect
circularity, but no physical object is perfectly circular; there are only things that are circular to a
greater or lesser degree. Therefore, unlike the physical objects, which are constantly changing, the
Platonic forms are perfect, stable, and eternal. However, when people are alive, they are constantly
distracted by the bodily desires; thus the core of the philosophers

The Impact of Japanese Mlb Players
In the 1870 s, Japanese baseball began, but at that time, baseball players played wearing kimonos and
bare feet. Nowadays, most American baseball enthusiasts know Japanese top level players, such as
Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Matsui, and Ichiro Suzuki because they have many accomplishments in
the highest level baseball league MLB [Major League Baseball]. Many Japanese professional baseball
players are trying to move to America, as a result by 2009 16 Japanese players belonged to MLB
teams (48 players born in Japan). Although there are not many players from Japan playing in America,
the ones playing have had a great impact on Japanese baseball. Moreover, many of the Japanese MLB
players have accomplished a lot with their teams. Many of them ... Show more content on

On November 4th, 2009, Hideki Matsui, who is a New York Yankees outfielder, became the first
Japanese born player to win the World Series MVP. He lead the Yankees to the World Championship,
he hit .615 with three home runs, and eight RBI s. In addition, in Game 6, he batted in six runs, which
is a Series game RBI record (Ben Walker). Therefore, Murakami, Nomo, Ichiro and Matsui s activities
affect a lot of Japanese baseball players, and many have started to have hope of going to America, and
their activities will become a gateway of Japanese baseball players in America. Impact for Japanese
People Japanese MLB players have a huge impact for Japanese because they give courage, hope and a
challenging spirit, so they became the heroes of many Japanese. During the 1940 s to 1980 s, only a
few Japanese baseball players challenged to be Major Leaguers, even Sadaharu Oh didn t try MLB. In
the U.S. there are some national heroes like Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Whitey Ford. In
Japan, they have players like Sadaharu Oh, who played as an infielder for the Yomiuri Giants. During
his 22 year career, Sadaharu Oh hit a total of 868 home runs, surpassing Hank Aaron s Major League
record 755 home runs. According to Baseball Reference.com, forty eight MLB players were born in
Japan, a dramatic increase since 1995 because of the impact of Nomo. After Hideo Nomo moved to
America, forty five players joined the MLB because Nomo was successful, but it was

Tell Tale Heart Vs Black Cat Research Paper
In the Tell Tale Heart, Poe s narrator makes a claim that his actions were justified and that he is not
insane. Likewise, the narrator of Black Cat uses a scapegoat, alcohol, as a reason for the horrible stuff
he has done. The narrators both claim that there is a reason for the stuff that they did, so they couldn t
possibly be insane. In the Tell Tale Heart, the narrator s story was that he was with an older man.
Whether he be the older man s servant or child was unclear, but the narrator did mention that he loved
the old man so much. However, every time he laid eyes on the man, he was completely distraught,
stating for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye ( Tell Tale Heart 1). So every night,
the narrator would venture into the old man s chamber and watched him sleep, just ... Show more

Whether he could actually hear the heartbeat or if it was just his own guilt for what he had done, he
couldn t take it anymore. He screamed, tore up the floorboards, and confessed to the crime. While he
did a horrible thing, he still does not believe that he is insane in any shape or form. Likewise, the
narrator in the Black Cat denies that he is insane, and blames his misfortune on alcohol. This guy use
to love animals and through the years he got a dog, a goldfish, a few birds, a small monkey and a cat.
He always loved feeding and caressing them. However, his alcohol consumed him and he became
more bitter by the day; t wasn t just his wife that suffered the wrath of his violence. He treated his
animals poorly, all except his black cat Pluto, which he is completely aware of when he wrote For
Pluto, however, I still retained sufficient regard to restrain me from maltreating him ( The Black Cat

and the cat fought back, biting the man s

The Gold Standard Peter Ferra Summary
The author, Peter Ferrara, opens the article by introducing his topic: the gold standard. He explains
that today s Americans have no true conception of what the gold standard is, blaming this on modern
media and lack of education. The author then begins to shape an argument by discussing the history of
the gold standard in the United States thoroughly. He points out the insignificant effect that tying the
U.S. dollar to gold had on inflation, and uses phrases from the Constitution to support the
implementation of the gold standard. Later in the article, Ferrara uses historical statistics involving the
value of the dollar to exemplify the negative effect of abandoning the gold standard on the United
States economy. He continues to support his argument by giving modern examples of economic
failure as a result of the U.S. dollar not being supported by gold. ... Show more content on

His reasons revolve around the effect that the gold standard would have on the American people if
reinstated. The author claims there would be no inflation on working wages, and investments in
America would increase, since the value of money would not change. Lower tax rates and increased
savings would cause an increase in American capital investment, leading to holistic growth in the U.S.
economy. Ferrara s evidence is even more convincing. In the article, the author compares the value of
gold and the dollar before the abandonment of the gold standard to today s values, stressing the
weakening power of the U.S. dollar. He then demonstrates the difference in economic growth before
and after America released the gold standard, stating When America was on the gold standard, the real
rate of economic growth averaged nearly 4% a year. Since then real annual growth has stagnated at
about 25% less. His evidence is both convincing and useful in supporting his

Drone Training Research Paper
When you were buying your very first drone, did you have any idea that these aerial vehicles would
become so popular and useful that full bodied training courses and study modules would be made
available to public through university and college degree programs? Well, there are a good number of
colleges in the USA that are already offering drone training to thousands of students. Of course, drone
engineering is a full fledged discipline because there are so many types of unmanned aerial vehicles
now available throughout the world ranging from simple just for fun drones to combat flying vehicles
housing missiles and other payload and military surveillance drones. Next is the category of drone
pilots that need robust training as well as certification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the concept is relatively new and still in its infancy, there is a horde of opportunities for fresh
graduates of drone training programs. With the growing number of people who wish to take these
courses, there is also a need for more teachers and instructors who will be paid huge amounts of
money for transferring their skills to the next generation of drone experts. How to Apply If you are
interested in one of the degree programs or certifications in drone training, you first need to do a little
research on various colleges that are currently offering study programs in this field. There are online
degree programs as well, which you can easily take while sitting in the comfort of your home. The
application procedure is just like applying for any other degree program; you need to fill out an
application form and submit it to the concerned department along with required documents and a
covering letter to show your interest in a particular college. Before you decide to apply, determine
whether you want to learn to build drones or to fly them. These are the two basic categories that exist
when it comes to drone training or education. Some of the degree programs offered by colleges in this

The Relationship Between Sadism And Its Effects On Children
Sadism is defined as the derivation of sexual pleasure from the infliction of pain, suffering and/or
humiliation upon another person. The pain and suffering of the victim, which may be both physical
and psychological, is pivotal to the sexual arousal and pleasure. According to Bernard (1933) sadism
hence represents a pathological intensification of the masculine mental character. Characteristics of
sadism according to DSM IV (2000) is as follows: having over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent,
intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving acts (real, not simulated) in
which the psychological or physical suffering including humiliation of the victim is sexually exciting
to the person, as well as the person has acted on these urges with a non consenting person, or the
sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty. Introduction Sexual sadism
is noticed primarily in males and generally starts with puberty, in spite of the fact that sadistic
behavior may be manifested prematurely in children. In all male cases, it becomes obvious by early
adulthood. According to Hucker (2009), sexual sadism may start off with fantasies and, in some cases,
these may never be acted upon or, be acted out in the more mild forms of consensual relationships. In
non consensual cases, the behavior usually continues and often escalates over time as the perpetrator
experiences a need for increased violence in order to stimulate the

The Hunger GamesLike A Festivity In The Hunger Games
It is shocking to see how the Capitol expects the Districts to treat the Hunger Games like a festivity, so
that they can enjoy the suffering of the tributes as pure entertainment, while being tortuous for the
Districts that have to comply. This is illustrated quite well when Katniss says that To make it
humiliating as well as tortuous, the Capitol requires us to treat the Hunger Games as a festivity, a
sporting event pitting every Districts against the others ... For the residences in the Capitol The
Hunger Games itself is an annual event that provides them with a highly anticipated source of
entertainment to pass time and the cause to celebrate. Citizens gamble on the tributes and sponsor their
favourites in the arena. The Districts understand that they are more likely to survive if they are
seemingly compliant with the laws and the retractions that the Capitol puts on them. District 12 along
with other districts comply with the Laws that the Capitol reinforces. Not only are the Districts
required to comply but they have to look like and pretend that they re agreeable to the punishment of
having to sacrifice 2 of their young people from each District, every year and then act as if it is a
major celebration rather than a tortuous punishment they have to endure year after year. People are
addicted to watching the suffering of others, especially those in the Capitol. They love that all of the
violence, the bloodshed and the struggle to stay alive is real. They like the

Cage was the son of John Milton Cage, Sr., an inventor, hence the creativeness yet to come through his music. In 1928, Cage graduated from Los Angles High School with the intent to pursue a degree in writing. He also experimented with tape recorders, record players, and radios, finding the music around him in the simplest objects, otherwise not considered instruments by the typical composer or musician. After realizing his makeshift instruments were not what he needed, he began brainstorming ideas for new instruments. Pieces such as Imaginary Landscape No. 4 and Water Music were just a few examples of his creativity in music. For Imaginary Landscape No. 4 Cage used twelve radios played at once to create this composition. Water Music was created by combining shells and water to form a masterpiece. Cage used unimaginable items such as kitchen gadgets, metal sheets, various common objects, and even silence to create a discovery no other composer had considered before. Through his music, he turned the everyday sounds we hear into something so much more. He performed with his percussion ensemble in New York at the Museum of Modern Art in 1943. • 5. Managing Cash Flow Management ( Cfm ) Managing Cash Flow Cash Flow is composed of revenue or expense streams that change cash accounts over a specified period. The statement of cash flows showing the amount of cash generated and used by a company during the period is calculated by adding noncash charges (such as depreciation) to net income after taxes. Changes in cash are usually derived from one of three activities financing, operations or investing. Sales growth can conceal many problems. When managing a growing company, watch expenses carefully. If you see expenses growing faster than sales, examine costs carefully to find places to cut or control them. The lag between the time you have to pay your suppliers and employees and the time you collect from your customers can be a problem. The solution is cash flow management (CFM). CFM means delaying disbursements of cash as long as possible while requiring anyone who owes you money to pay it quickly. Rules (FASB) that govern the creation of financial statements are not about tracking the actual flow of cash through your business. They are focused on measuring profit or loss. Income does not tell you what happened to your cash balance during the period. It merely defines net income based on the accounting rules used to create the income statement. Only one component of understanding and managing your cash flow. Managing Cash Flow Use What ifs to Estimate Cash Flow You may not have tried this yet, but creating what if scenarios based on swings in revenues, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Draft Guidance Paper Study Details The study selected by this author centers around ethical and oversight issues concerning standard of care interventions received by participants in research studies. So as to address recently arisen concerns regarding key aspects of regulation and oversight of standard of care interventions executed during trials, the office for human research protections (OHRP) solicited comments from experts on what has been termed as Draft Guidance (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2015, pp. 1 3). The report focuses on one particular issue involving the determination and communication of all the reasonably foreseeable risks that are associated with participating in a trial compared to receiving standard of care interventions. The OHRP and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) produced a document entitled Draft Guidance on Disclosing Reasonably Foreseeable Risks in Research Evaluating Standards of Care ( Draft Guidance ), so that comments and expert opinions could be gathered on the subject (IOM, 2015). Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency services to take actions to minimize flood damages. Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help to provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger flood forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and hydrodynamic models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected key locations known as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams near urban areas that have a history of flooding. 2. • 11. Analysis Of Big Two Hearted River By Ernest Hemingway Big Two Hearted River , a semi autobiographical short story by Ernest Hemingway, is a story about the main character, Nick, returning to Big Two Hearted River in order to recover from his inner wounds. Nick Adams goes on a journey alone in nature for a therapeutic purpose as he suffers from PTSD. However, Hemingway purposely avoided any direct discussion regarding to Nick s mental wounds. The absence of the discussion is contributed by Hemingway s writing style, the Iceberg principle. Hemingway focuses explicitly on what occurs on the surface without mentioning actual theme. This indicates that the theme of self healing cannot be uncovered by simply looking at the text itself. In order to comprehend the actual theme of the story, the character development of Nick must be examined. This is possible since Nick Adams is a recurring character of Hemingway s stories. The two preceding stories of Big Two Hearted River , Now I lay me and A Way you ll Never Be , directly discusses Nick s suffering from shell shock and how he comforts himself by returning to Big Two Hearted river in his mind. The two short stories will be analyzed and connected to Big Two Hearted River in the essay first. This will provide a strong understanding of Nick s psyche and the reason behind his return to nature. Then, Big Two Hearted River the short story itself will be carefully analyzed. The dozen of the Nick Adams stories allowed Nick to develop his character from a child to an adult. The ... Mast cells are found predominantly in your surface tissues (tissues close to the external environment) such as in your skin and in the mucous membranes of your nose. Once the IgE has attached itself to an allergen, it sets off a series of events within the cells that lead to degranulation, which is the process that releases molecules from vesicles that regulate immune responses. That way the antihistamine will have a higher chance of binding to to the receptor than the histamine does. Antihistamines usually don t have side effects but drowsiness is one side effect that is hard to avoid. When an antihistamine crosses the BBB, or blood brain barrier, that exists between the circulatory system and the nervous system to stop random molecules from getting into the brain and causing untold havoc (U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2002) drowsiness occurs. The first generation of antihistamine drugs, such as diphenhydramine, crossed the BBB almost effortlessly and once they had crossed it sedation would set it. However newer antihistamines, known as second generation antihistamines, have been modified to prevent them crossing the BBB as easily. • 17. Theme Of Glory And Grief In The Iliad A flip of a coin In the midst of the bloodshed caused by discord between two mighty empires, the characters of Homer s Iliad are exposed to the multifaceted essence of warfare and thus experience both the feelings of glory as well as grief. In this way, we can compare the nature of war to that of a coin. When flipped to kleos, fame achieved through exploits in battle, the characters experience an increase in social status and earn admiration from their people. When flipped to the other side, the characters grieve for the death of their loved ones caused by the violence of war. As the bard who recites an intricate and heart wrenching story concerning love, loss, and warfare, Homer shapes his narration around the poignant sentiments instigated by the duality of war which results from the rabid pursuit of glory. A central theme is the struggle between everlasting kleos and a long life without glory is what encapsulates the dual nature of warfare, which creates heroes but also brings loss to families and devastation to societies. (Giles 55). By illustrating both of the stories that result from a single event, Homer balances the dualistic aspects of glory and grief to communicate that glory and grief are an inevitable result of fundamentally flawed human nature. Homer centers the two reactions to war, glory, and grief, mostly around the two most celebrated warriors of their respective people, Hector, and Achilles. Through his narration, the audience is aware of the character s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Day in and day out people around the world pass away before they can even have the chance to live. Usually the waiting list exceeds the amount of organs available. Nevertheless, the sales of human organs should be legalized in the hopes that people have a chance to live. Organ sale for example, allowing or encouraging consenting adults to become living kidney donors in return for money has been proposed as a possible solution to the seemingly chronic shortage of organs for transplantation. • 31. Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival. Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit. (Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. • 35. The Necessary Qualities Of A Good Democratic Citizen Essay The necessary qualities of a good democratic citizen require an individual to recognize an injustice within the law, actively oppose that law, and to do so regardless if that unjust law affects the citizen personally. Rousseau, Emerson, and Douglass all agree that freedom and equality are natural rights endowed to all humans. However the three authors diverge in consensus when envisioning the necessary qualities of a good democratic citizen, such as the position from which each author is theorizing, a citizen s obligation to the state, and the moral implications of slavery. Douglass s view of a good democratic citizen is superior because, unlike Rousseau and Emerson, Douglass is able to theorize from the position of a free black man and is therefore able to recognize the intersections of race and inequality within the law and politics. Rousseau is theorizing from the concept of the general will, which promotes individuals to become conscious citizens who actively participate as a community to form policies for a governing structure. The general will advocates for a commitment to generality, a common interest that will unite all citizens for the benefit of all. Rousseau states, each one of us puts into the community his person and all his powers under the supreme direction of the general will; and as a body, we incorporate every member as an indivisible part of the whole (Rousseau 61). • 37. Use Of Dark And Light In Macbeth The tragedy of Macbeth tells a tale of a man s ambition for power and rise to it. Many scholars consider Macbeth to be Shakespeare s darkest work. Shakespeare is known for his use of imagery, similes, and metaphors in his work. Dark and light, a strong motif in the tragedy of Macbeth, is often used not only in literature, but in everyday life to contrast good and evil. People often associate darkness and dark things with evil and death, while the opposite applies to light. Light is most often associated with good tidings, heaven, God, and life. In Macbeth, both dark and light are both used as symbols and signs that something good or bad is about to happen. The use of dark and light begins in Act 1 when King Duncan announces that Malcolm is the heir to his throne and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macbeth asked his wife, What is the night? and Lady Macbeth responds with Almost at odds with morning, which is which. (3.4.125 126) The conversation between Macbeth and his wife discuss the fight between day and night and that night is slowly but surely conquering the day. Lady Macbeth say the two are at odds, which affirms the constant battles between good and evil. This goes back to when Ross said that night was strangling the sun and that the evils of night are taking over. By this time in the play, almost every character known to be good was either killed or converted to the darkness. In Act 4, Duncan s son Malcolm returns and says, Angels are bright still, though the brightest star fell (4.3.24). Malcolm compares Macbeth to Lucifer or Satan in this line, because Macbeth was the King s top apprentice and was always loyal to him. The events that have happened throughout the play show that, like Lucifer, Macbeth has fallen into the hands of evil and turned away from his good and powerful leader. Malcolm says that the angels are still bright, possibly because he still has hope that things can turn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Economic Systems, Capitalism And Socialism Economic Systems People can use economic systems to build empires and destroy civilizations. The society s featured in the books 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury did just that. Both took advantage of some form of an economic system to achieve their respective goals. Whether it be the command economy of Oceania, or the overly consumerist economy of the dystopian United States, they both employed economics to their benefit. Economics is the science of scarcity. Scarcity is when you have a population with unlimited wants coupled with limited resources. Economics deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. An economic system is how a society deals with these factors. The three main questions that an economic system is supposed to answer are what will we produce? how will we produce it? who gets it? Answer these questions and you have an economic system (Hettige). This report will cover the two main economic systems, capitalism and socialism. Capitalism Capitalism promotes private ownership of the means of production, or resources, to produce goods and services for profit. In other terms, private entities purchase resources; be it labor, natural resources, or factories to create goods to sell for profit. Capitalism promotes that people build up their own wealth and that all, or most, available resources be privately owned. Production in capitalism is controlled by supply and demand and individuals purchase products on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Immortality of the Soul in Plato s Phaedo Dao Le Prof. Mark Cronin HU 102 HD April 2, 2012 The Immortality of the Soul in Plato s Phaedo Among Plato s dialogues, which serve to honor the realm of philosophy in general and Socrates s life in particular, the Phaedo dramatically and poignantly portrays the death scene of Socrates. The Phaedo evokes such tragic sentiments of pity and fear while at the same time glorifies Socrates as the martyr for the truth. He dies because of human s injustice yet faces his own death with extraordinary serenity and fearlessness; he devotes his whole life for philosophy and in fact practices it until the last minutes. In this dialogue, the philosophical discussion is about the soul. However, as a dualist, for the most part Socrates takes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... David Bostock in his book Plato s Phaedo tries to examine the theory of the forms and Plato s metaphysics: In both it emerges that it is a crucial point about the form of P hood that it is unambiguously P, which is to say that it is P and is not also in any way not P . . . For the form is contrasted with the perceptible objects that are P, on the ground that they always combine being P with being not P, which is why they are said to fall short of it (195). These forms are much like the perfect templates and standards in which ordinary humdrum things can only participate in to varying degrees. For example, there s nothing in this world that s perfectly beautiful, and yet for all that, we can think about beauty itself. We might say those physical objects are somewhat, or partially beauty because they partake of beauty to varying degree, but none of them should be confused with Beauty itself. Another example is our mind can grasp the idea of perfect circularity, but no physical object is perfectly circular; there are only things that are circular to a greater or lesser degree. Therefore, unlike the physical objects, which are constantly changing, the Platonic forms are perfect, stable, and eternal. However, when people are alive, they are constantly distracted by the bodily desires; thus the core of the philosophers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Gold Standard Peter Ferra Summary The author, Peter Ferrara, opens the article by introducing his topic: the gold standard. He explains that today s Americans have no true conception of what the gold standard is, blaming this on modern media and lack of education. The author then begins to shape an argument by discussing the history of the gold standard in the United States thoroughly. He points out the insignificant effect that tying the U.S. dollar to gold had on inflation, and uses phrases from the Constitution to support the implementation of the gold standard. Later in the article, Ferrara uses historical statistics involving the value of the dollar to exemplify the negative effect of abandoning the gold standard on the United States economy. He continues to support his argument by giving modern examples of economic failure as a result of the U.S. dollar not being supported by gold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His reasons revolve around the effect that the gold standard would have on the American people if reinstated. The author claims there would be no inflation on working wages, and investments in America would increase, since the value of money would not change. Lower tax rates and increased savings would cause an increase in American capital investment, leading to holistic growth in the U.S. economy. Ferrara s evidence is even more convincing. In the article, the author compares the value of gold and the dollar before the abandonment of the gold standard to today s values, stressing the weakening power of the U.S. dollar. He then demonstrates the difference in economic growth before and after America released the gold standard, stating When America was on the gold standard, the real rate of economic growth averaged nearly 4% a year. Since then real annual growth has stagnated at about 25% less. His evidence is both convincing and useful in supporting his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Relationship Between Sadism And Its Effects On Children Sadism is defined as the derivation of sexual pleasure from the infliction of pain, suffering and/or humiliation upon another person. The pain and suffering of the victim, which may be both physical and psychological, is pivotal to the sexual arousal and pleasure. Introduction Sexual sadism is noticed primarily in males and generally starts with puberty, in spite of the fact that sadistic behavior may be manifested prematurely in children. In all male cases, it becomes obvious by early adulthood. According to Hucker (2009), sexual sadism may start off with fantasies and, in some cases, these may never be acted upon or, be acted out in the more mild forms of consensual relationships.
