The degree is the highest power of x and the leading coefficient is the coefficient of the first term. Even degree polynomials bounce off the x-axis while odd degree polynomials pass through it. The end behaviors of polynomials depend on the degree and sign: even degree tails are both up or down, odd degree tails are up then down or down then up.
