Good Transitions For An Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Good Transitions for an Essay" may initially appear
deceptively simple, but delving into the intricacies of this topic reveals a myriad of challenges.
The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of information but rather in the nuanced art of seamlessly
connecting ideas and paragraphs to create a cohesive narrative. It demands a keen understanding
of the underlying principles of effective transitions, such as coherence, logical flow, and
maintaining the reader's engagement.
One of the primary challenges is striking the right balance between being overtly explicit in
transitions and subtly guiding the reader through the essay. It requires a delicate touch to avoid
the pitfalls of overusing transitional phrases or, conversely, neglecting them altogether. Achieving
a smooth transition between paragraphs involves a careful consideration of the relationships
between ideas, ensuring that the reader can effortlessly follow the logical progression of
thoughts.
Additionally, the task involves a deep exploration of the diverse types of transitions,
encompassing those that signal similarity, contrast, cause and effect, and chronological order,
among others. Integrating these transitions seamlessly requires a nuanced understanding of the
essay's overall structure and purpose.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to maintaining a consistent tone and style throughout the
essay while incorporating transitions that not only connect ideas but also enhance the overall
readability. Striking this balance necessitates a keen eye for detail and a thorough revision
process.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the subject of "Good Transitions for an Essay" involves
navigating a complex landscape of linguistic finesse, structural coherence, and reader
engagement. The difficulty lies not just in the technical aspects of incorporating transitions but
in the artful execution that transforms a collection of paragraphs into a harmonious and
compelling composition. For those seeking assistance in navigating this challenge, a variety of
resources, including similar essays and more, can be explored through platforms like

10 Things I Hate About You Chick Flick Analysis
A Chick Flick as broadly agreed upon is the kind of films that mostly appeal to a
female audience. Even the name itself is a bit offensive. It implies that films
having female characters are appealing just to women spectators, and films with
men, as protagonists are more commonly considered as widespread, while those
who have bunches of ladies in them are so called Chick Flicks , and in this way, a
corner shallow kind. Most of the time these films convey the point that ladies live
happily ever after when they get the chance to discover intimate romance. Other
Chick Flicks introduce a solid female protagonist but, as the film advances the hero
needs to change herself of to adjust to her end goal to observe affection, to be
recognized by her adoration intrigue, or to fit into her partner s life. Most commonly
the female protagonist is a stunningly beautiful woman, who likewise happens to be
blonde rather than a brunette, youthful, white and thin. Yet she needs to have a
blemish, which would make her more human and in this way, more relatable to lots
of people. 10 Things I Hate About Youis likely the most clear illustration. However
she definitely must be physically dazzling like all the female characters in the film,
with a specific end goal to keep the present magnificence ongoing.
Dr. Erik Herzog s Talk Summary
I attended the What wakes us up: Networked Circadian Clocks in The Brain talk
by Dr. Erik Herzog from Washington University. The talk was extremely
interesting and helped me better understand the circadian system s in human s
behavior. The first fact that I think is extremely interesting is how our daily
rhythm is driven by a small part of the brain called suprachiasmatic nucleus. Our
brains are well designed and perfectly localized that each part of the brain
responsible for only specific function. However, since everything in the brain is
connected, the shift in one part can greatly affect the others. I have also learned that
neuroscience research is a broad field that involved interdisciplinarity from multiple
fields. To study how the circadian system in our body work, researchers from Dr.
Herzog s Laboratory has been using both in vitro, in vivo and behavior observing
techniques. At the beginning of the talk, it is interesting to see how the behavior of
the mouse changed when researcher removed the... Show more content on

Researchers used luciferase on fireflies to study this mechanism. The result showed
some significant results about how this clock gene affect behaviors. With enough
enzyme, researchers can repress the DNA at the clock gene and completely change
the behavior of any animal. The gene also provided some explanations for how light
exposure can change human s behaviors. From the talk, Dr. Herzog mentioned that
the VIP (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide) cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus can
respond to light. Therefore, when the light shifts our daily behavior, it means that the
VIP cells must be activated somehow in the SCN. The activation of VIP results in a
chain of reactions inside the suprachiasmatic nucleus and cause a shift in circadian
Jamaican Slaves In The 1700s
Around the middle of the 1700s, a gathering of Jamaican slaves started touching base
in Halifax. This gathering was named Maroons , which implied outlaw slaves taking
to the forested areas. (Pachai, Beneath the Clouds 2) The Maroons earned their name
in light of the fact that they were a gathering of African plummet slaves in Jamaica
who opposed the framework in that nation. Numerous Maroons settled in Preston and
Guysborough. Amid the Maroon entry, their administrations were used every now
and again by both the Nova Scotian government and the Loyalists. The displacement
of the Black Loyalists in 1792 had constrained the staying with pioneers needing
specialists. The Maroons were utilized in the military and by storeowners who

Reactance Window Drying
Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses
circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to
material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied
to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at
a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING
FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this
is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of
the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal
cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product.
Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This
air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is
replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound
moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted
way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The
vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water
in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated
the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the
wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in the drying process is usually
known as

PART I The Elasmobranchs are a subclass of class Chondrichthyes. The
Chondrichthyes are classified as the Cartilaginous fishes. Aside from the
Elasmobranchs, this class has another subclass named Holocephali which is
comprised of the chimaera. The Elasmobranchs are comprised of sharks (Selachii)
and the rays and the similarly structured skates (Batoidea) Van Eyl, S. M., Siebeck,
U. E., Champ, C. M., Marshal, J., Hart, N. S. (2011). There have been fossils of
sharks found dating about 400 million years and while there is much data that
points to diversification throughout the millennia, skates and rays only appear
about 200 100 million years ago (Wilga 2005). The Elasmobranchs are classified
apart from other fishes despite their external similarities due to several key
structural differences. One of these is the absence of a swim bladder. True fishes
use this gas filled organ to control their buoyancy without having to waste physical
energy on maintaining the desired depth in water. Instead, the Elasmobranchs have
developed especially large livers that can produce and withhold large amounts of oil.
This is especially evident in the sharks where the liver can sometimes weigh up to 20
percent of their total body weight. Further characteristics that define the
Elasmobranch subclass include placoid scales or dermal denticles. These are
homologous to true scales in function but are closer in structure to teeth (hence their
name). The scales are comprised of a pulp cavity
Hydraulic Fracture Case Study
In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was
used in early 2D hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress
normal to the fracture plane exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into
a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based models were suitable for coupling with
reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari, and Sullivan 2009). 3D
grid based models were extended to deal with multiple fractures, for example, the
MultiFrac Placement Pseudo 3D (MLF P3D) model (Dontsov and Peirce 2015).
These models are very complex being capable of simulating multiple hydraulic
fractures simultaneously propagating from multiple perforation intervals where each

2015). The Unconventional Fracture Model (UFM), developed by Cipolla et al.
(2010), considers the effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of
the mechanical properties of fracture morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM
model can simulate the propagation of asymmetric fracture networks accounting for
fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic deformation of the fractures. The
initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the fracture network, mass
conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D model
(Weng 2015).
Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale
plays and even within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith
(2009) emphasized the importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale
play for a successful hydraulic fracturing stimulation (Britt and Smith 2009). In
addition, Rickman et al. (2008) stressed that the mechanical rock properties, such as
brittleness and mineralogy, are fundamental in completion designs. While ductile
shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural fractures
which react to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). In general, the Young s
Modulus of the shale measured parallel to the bedding plane is greater than that
measured perpendicular to the bedding plane. Sone and Zoback (2013) explained the

In the novel, The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy, a hero with an unlikely
identity saves the French aristocrats from a horrific fate of death by the guillotine, in
this swashbuckling tale.
The Scarlet Pimpernel takes place in France and England in 1792. During this time
the French Revolution is taking place. The commoners want revenge on the wrong
doings of the French aristocrats. The commoner s idea of revenge is death by
guillotine. They aren t just killing the men that performed these so called acts of
treason; they are murdering innocent women and children too. In England the
English are outraged, they can t believe that the people of France are turning their

Chauvelin waits in the room but only to find Percy sleeping on the couch, and no
one else shows. Chauvelin warns Lady Blakeney if they don t find the identity of
the Pimpernel her brother will die. The Blakeneys go home, but underneath all the
stress, Marguerite explains to Percy that her brother is in trouble, and he promises
to help. He departs, only to tell Margot that he is going up north. Lady Blakeney
sneaks around Sir Percy s study, to discover a ring with a scarlet pimpernel on it.
Lady Blakeney discovers that Sir Percy is actually the Scarlet Pimpernel! She realizes
that she has betrayed him by helping Chauvelin find his whereabouts. With the help
of the League she embarks on a journey to France to save her brother and husband.
Percy outwits Chauvelin and his soldiers, and escapes them, but they are hot on
his trail. The French men find Lady Blakeney and capture her. The soldiers enlist
help from an old Jewish man; he claims to know where Sir Percy is. They ambush
the hut, but no one is inside. This makes Chauvelin angry, so he has his men beat
the old Jew and leave Lady Blakeney with him in the middle of the woods. Once
they are gone, the old Jew reveals himself to be Percy in disguise. Back to safety
on the boat, Lady Blakeney, her brother, and Sir Percy all set sail to England! Percy
and Marguerite are finally reconciled, having freed her brother and the aristocrats.
Percy promises to make sure Chauvelin never steps foot in English noble society
Music Is A Universal Medium Essay
There are certain elements and forms of expression that help to define cultures and
time periods. Music is a form of art and expression that ties cultures and humanity
together well also allowing each culture to add the own unquietness. We may not
realize it but music penetrates almost every aspect of our lives. Music is used in
celebrations such as a in a wedding or bar mitzvah music is even used to
commemorate someone s life as they are laid to rest. Music is a universal medium.
Everyone and anyone can find meaning and some personal connection music.
Music has the ability to elicit powerful emotions or memories. A certain song could
remind someone of a very happy time in their life such as being on a beach or at a
cookout with friends and family. Music has the ability to elicit powerful emotions
in us such as happiness and can transport us mentally back to that moment in time
where we were and what was happening to elicit those emotions. Music can bring
out negative emotions in us as well. Someone could hear a song that reminds them
of their first break up which may bring about feelings of sadness and cause that
person to relive a painful experience. Perhaps one of the most powerful elements
music possesses is that it allows us to project in our mind and become something
we are not. For example if you hear a rock song that excites you, maybe you imagine
yourself as the star quarterback throwing for the game winning touchdown. Maybe if
a country song comes on the radio you
Summary Of The Poem Happy By Forde
Forde s central claim was that no matter the age group or what type of music you
liked, this song was sure to have you up dancing to the beat. Forde also makes the
claim that no matter how repetitive this song is, people are still going to get up and
dance or sing along to it every time it comes on. The passage states that Happy has
gone a bit further and has pan generational appeal. (224) Forde also claims that
because Happy has pulled off some of the impossible things. But getting an
audience reaction like that at the bowls that s proper success. (221) The secondary
claims Forde uses are from Dr. Lauren Stewart and Dr. Elizabeth Margulis. Dr.
Lauren Stewart suggests that It s a very poppy tune and it transcends a few different
How Hadoop Is An Apache Open Source Software ( Java...
Hadoop is an Apache open source software (java framework). It runs on cluster of
commodity machines and provides both distributed storage and distributed
processing of huge data sets. It is capable of processing data sizes ranging from
Gigabytes to Petabytes.
Architecture :
Similar to master / slave architecture.
The master is the Namenode and the Slaves are the data nodes. The Namenode
maintains and manages blocks of datanodes. They are responsible for dealing with
clients requests of data. Hadoop splits the files into one or more blocks and these
blocks are stored on datanodes. Each datanode is replicated to provide fault tolerance
characteristic of Hadoop. Default replicator factor is 3 which can be configured.
Components:
1.Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS): It is designed to run on hardware which
are less expensive and the data is stored in it distributed. It is highly fault tolerance
and provides high throughput access to the applications that require big data.
2.Namenode: It manages the system namespace. It stores the metadata of data
blocks. The metadata is stored in the form of namespace image and edit logs on a
local machine. The namenode knows the location of each datablock on the data node.
3.Secondary Namenode: It is responsible for merging the namespace image and edit
log to create check points. This would help namenode to free up memory taken up by
edits logs from the start to the latest check point.
4.DataNode: Stores blocks of data and

Emphysema is the most common cause of death from respiratory disease in the
United States and is generally caused by several years of heavy cigarette smoking
(Olendorf, 2000). When a person smokes, the body s immune system tries to fight
off the invading smoke by using certain substances. These substances can also attack
the cells of the lungs, but normally the body is able to release other substances to
prevent this. In the case of people who are smokers, this doesn t happen and the
original substances that were released to fight off the smoke also end up injuring the
cells of the lungs as well. Eventually, the lungs will not be able to supply enough
oxygen to the blood and a host of problems can occur with this. Risk factors that have
been identified for emphysema include exposure to tobacco smoke either through
active or passive smoking (2nd hand smoke), occupational exposure such as dust or
chemicals, ambient air pollution, or genetic abnormalities, including a deficiency of
alpha antitrypsin, an enzyme inhibitor that normally counteracts the destruction of
lung tissue by certain other enzymes (Smeltzer, 2010). The symptoms of emphysema
develop gradually over many years. It is generally characterized by three primary
symptoms: chronic cough, sputum production, and dyspnea on exertion. Other signs
and symptoms include weight loss and the development of a

Davis said she and Douglas County School System Superintendent Gordon Pritz were
presented with the idea of beginning a school based health service and she said they
felt Douglas County students would greatly benefit from it.
Recognizing the need, I applied for a planning grant with Emory University to study
the feasibility of establishing a health center in Douglas County, said Davis.
She said to determine if the county needed this facility she looked at how students
were receiving health care, if they had insurance and where in the county would
benefit the most from having this facility. From the results of her study she said
Burnett Elementary and Eastside Elementary were the locations that would benefit
the most from the health care facility.
A news release from the school system said the purpose of the full range health
center is to help students avoid health related absences. The health center will be open
during school hours, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30
The Help by Kathryn Stockett Essay
The Help
The book , The Help by Kathryn Stockett, is about a women named Aibileen who is
a black maid. She is taking care of her 17th white baby now. She works for a
woman named Miss Leefolt. Aibileen has never disobeyed an order in her life and
never intends to do so. Her friend Minny is the exact opposite. When she is around
her boss, she has to hold herself back from sassing them all the time. Skeeter
Phelan is different than the rest of the white ladies. She thinks that blacks aren t all
that bad. She decides to write a book about the lives of maids for white ladies.

Skeeter didn t contribute to the conversation too much because she wasn t
comfortable with her friends. I think that overall, there is lots of variety to the
three. The three girls working together begins to create the solution to the main
conflict. The main conflict in this case is blacks are being treated in a way that is
not fair. They are being treated as if they are disease carrying things. Skeeter wants
to change that perspective on people. That s why she wants to write a book on
how black maids are treated in Mississippi. I turn and hear Pascagoula s knock on
my door. That s when the idea hit me. No. I couldn t. That would be . . . crossing
the line. (Page 104) This was foreshadowing what Skeeter would do next. It let the
reader know what was going to happen. Minny and Aibileen are there to help
Skeeter with her book. They are the interviews. At first, the book starts out with
Aibileen doing a normal day of work. She notices the Skeeter isn t like all the other
ladies. She s more polite. When Skeeter gets a job at the local newspaper she starts to
go to Aibileen for help with the Miss Myrna articles. She is even willing to pay her
to help her. For your help, I say quietly, I ve put away five dollars for every article. It

For decades the fast food industry has supplied Americans with tasty, comforting
food, quickly and for a low cost. It was not until recently, when the health craze first
hit America in the late 1980 s that corporations developed a new approach to
marketing health food products to fit their customer s wants. Fast Food companies
trick their costumers into believing the fast food is healthier by fancy advertisement,
using descriptive words such as fresh, and not providing enough nutritional

Consequently, this exposure provoked McDonalds to change their image and

precautions fast food leaves out of their advertising. Subway may advertise healthier
food than McDonalds but with their meats consisting of artificial ingredients,
bulking agents, filler, processing aids, and even preservatives the alleged fresh food

for poor quality meats but examining the ingredients within Subways food there is

Installing A Home Security System
As a former Alarm Dispatcher with seven years of experience, I have a lot of
knowledge regarding alarm systems. You may be wondering whether or not a
burglar alarm system is right for you. Here are some things to keep in mind: A
burglar alarm system on a business will lower your insurance rates and will alert you
any time the alarm sounds. There are also additional benefits of alarm systems, such
as schedules. Schedules are set by you, usually within business hours. Whenever the
system is not disarmed in the morning or not armed at night, the alarm company will
call to let you know. This ensures that your business is open on time and the alarm
system is armed each night. And each time someone disarms the system outside of

Securing your home helps safeguard your valuables and keeps burglars out. What
are some simple home security measures you can implement today that will not

likely see garages that are left wide open, or just partially cracked open. Unless you
are inside the garage and can see what is going on around you, it is never a good
idea to leave the garage open, as it is an open invitation for thieves to just walk
right into your home without having to break a window. Bar Entry through Sliding
Glass Doors If you have sliding glass doors that lead out onto the patio or the back
garden, this could be used as an entry point by burglars to enter your home. Keep
sliding glass doors securely locked at all times and place a patio door security bar
across the bottom of the sliding glass doors to keep would be burglars out. Choose
a good quality product that locks into place when you install it so that it cannot be

security bar, but it can give you peace of mind from intruders. You can find a
deadbolt for as little as $50 to over $100, depending on your budget. Look for
deadbolts that
Social Media Impact On Gender Equality
Have you ever thought about all of the injustices in the world and said, what can I do
to help change them? Three extraordinary people, Emma Watson, Mother Jones, and
Mahatma Gandhi not only thought these things but went out and took action to stop
them. Emma Watson uses her social media influence to enact change in gender
equality. Mother Jones used peaceful protests, such as marching to inform more
individuals on the dark secrets of child labor. And Mahatma Gandhi developed
Satyagraha, the use of non violent civil disobedience to defend racial rights. These
three individuals fought for various human rightsin similar peaceful ways while
striving to make an impact in the world around them.
Emma Watson was appointed UN female ambassador and has been giving
speeches and using her platform in the media to fight for an end to gender
inequality since 2014. She says, I started questioning gender based assumptions
when at eight I was confused at being called bossy, because I wanted to direct the
plays we would put on for our parents but the boys were not . Along with many
other occasions throughout her childhood Emma did not understand why she had
to act a certain way just because she was born with a pink blanket and not a blue
one. Emma Watson along with many other women have been faced with this
inequality all of their lives, and Emma states she s one of the lucky ones. My life is a
sheer privilege because my parents didn t love me less because I was born a daughter.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO)
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key part of a business that utilizes
technology and data. A CIO is part of the Executive team and needs to be
knowledgeable about the industry but also have great project management skills and
business skills. CIO s must keep adapting to industry trends so they can decrease the
chance of error. Another key part of that businessis the information technology
managers that are accountable for the IT services and there IT support people, by
using critical thinking and researching strategies to achieve the business goals. IT
managers directly report to the CIO and keep him informed and what is needed in all
the departments.
It is essential for an IT Manager and a CIO to think in terms of knowledge as much
as being technology expert. However, there seems to be a business trend of placing
the CIO on the organizational chart well below the other executive positions. This
now places the CIO as middle management and has less influence on the information
system in the company. In companies with this scenario the CIO is now a glorified
IT manager.
The CIO and IT manager role are becoming more important as technology advances.
In order to effectively increase profits, reduce expenditure and plan/limiting possible
disasters the CIO role must be in place as a strategically focused member of the ...

The Passionate Subject of Religious Liberty Essay
The concept of religious liberty is at the core of global attention in recent times in
the light of religious extremities in different aspects of national existence. The
subject of religious liberty is a particularly touchy and sensitive issue as it evokes
passion, devotion and unbridled allegiance amongst adherents of various religious
beliefs. Although an aspect of the broad concept of human liberties and equality, it is
a subject which commands special attention as religious tenets play a vital role in
defining certain liberties and equalities in various societies.
Gender inequality for instance is an integral part of certain religious beliefs which
subjugate females to less commanding roles subservient to men. Furthermore, sexual

For instance, the trend towards criminalization of homosexuality in most African
countries is predicated on the prohibition of such sexual orientation and practice by
Christianity and Islamic religions.
Regardless of which ideology a state adopts, a common issue which arises is the
protection of religious liberty of the people of the state. Religious liberty simply
means the freedom of citizens to practice their chosen religion without fear,
harassment, or suppression either by virtue of state policy or as a result of
religious intolerance by fellow citizens or groups. Religious intolerance is a
constant problem in most countries of the world today as adherents of various
religious beliefs attempt to suppress adherents of other religious under the
misguided belief of the superiority of their religious belief over others. Such
religious Nazism based on misguided claims to superiority of particular religions
have wreaked havoc in places such as the Balkans where genocide was committed
on religious basis and even the Hindu Islamic strife in India and Myanmar have deep
rooted religious colorations arising from religious intolerance by adherents of
different religious beliefs.
In non secular states, religious liberties of citizens are restricted and curtailed in
favour of the state religion adopted. In such states, the struggle for religious liberty is
a constant battle

Woodrow Wilson and World War I Essay
What role did Woodrow Wilson have in World War I?
Woodrow Wilson, our 23rd president, became involved in a war that he did not
want any part of. Wilson wanted to remain neutral and have peace as in his first
term of office. During World War I Wilson s roles in the war became well known in
all countries. Wilson wanted peace more than anything else. In seeking for peace
Wilson asked Congress for the U.S. to enter World War I
. which may not sound like
a peace strategy but Wilson felt it was the only way to stop Germany and gain
peace. Wilson wrote his speech for world peace, Fourteen Points, that he was
probably most famous for. He attended and played an integral part in The Treaty of

Running has always been considered one of the best exercises in the world. Do you
know why? Most obvious answers to the question will be it helps you to lost weight,
it keeps you healthy, it burns calories and cuts body fat, it makes you active. While
they are all teue, running is not just about these. There is so much more to it. There
are numerous benefits of long distance running that most people are not aware of.

But once you know about the benefits of long distance running, you ll be excited to
get your feet on the running track.
1.Burns Calories
Okay, this one is an obvious but major benefit of long distance running. Nothing else
can burn your calories like a long run can. Do you know that running burns calories
faster than any other physical activity or exercise in the world. It turns your body
into a fat burning machine. You can burn more than 500 calories in a single 30
minute run. Running for long distances helps in improving after burn capabilities of
your body, which means that your body is capable of burning fat even after running.
Apart from burning some serious calories, running also improves your metabolism,
which means that your body can now process more calories efficiently. Thus, it
prevents calories from becoming body fat in the first place.
2.Better Sleep
One of the major advantages of long distance running is that it improves the overall
quality of your sleep. It also positively affects your sleeping patterns. Regular long
distance runners sleep faster and deeper for longer intervals of time without waking
up. It is also known that individuals who run long distances are less likely to develop
insomnia or other sleep related
Absorbance And Concentration Lab Report
The formula for measuring concentrations (Molarity) is moles/ Volume. The
molarity of the diluted sample is 3.5 x 10^ 6 M and the volume is .005 Liters. Then
solve for moles by multiplying the two knowns the product is 1.75 x 10^ 8 moles.
All existing moles came from the .001 Liters of the unknown sample. The moles
should then be divide them the volume, which is 1 ml. The final answer of the
unknown concentrationis 1.75 x 10^ 5 M.
Absorbance and concentration are directly related. So if .1 M has an absorbance of
.26, then a solution with 0.2 M must have an absorbance of 0.52.
The formula to convert absorbance to transmittance is Transmittance = 10^
absorbance. The equation would be 10^ .85 and the transmittance would be .1412 or
14.12% Transmitted.

Transportation Options For A City Rail Link ( Crl )
Auckland is easily navigable with a variety of transportation options that include
personal cars, an excellent public transportation system, and taxis.
PERSONAL CAR: Cars are used as a primary mode of transportation throughout
Auckland. The streets are in excellent repair with clear signage in English. Driver
etiquette is also excellent and traffic laws are typically obeyed. Expatriates usually
choose to drive a small or medium car around the city. Traffic may become congested
during rush hour, especially on and around the Harbour Bridge.
DRIVER: Drivers are not needed. Assignees and families typically drive themselves.
RAIL: Auckland s simple and efficient rail system is commonly used by commuters.

PERSONAL CAR: Personal cars are used as the primary mode of transportation in
Lagos. Although the city s main thoroughfares are in good repair, a significant
portion of the secondary and minor roads are unpaved. For this reason, expatriates
commonly purchase large cars or SUVs. Roads are marked in English but signage is
inconsistent, and traffic laws are not always obeyed. Traffic congestion due to
overcrowding is a significant issue in Lagos, especially on and around the few
bridges that connect the city s most popular neighborhoods and commercial centers.
Commuters should expect to pay road tolls.

theme of guilt. First, Hawthorne uses the Leech to contribute to the theme of guilt.
Roger Chillingworth is the leech because he is sucking information that he needs out

Jack Merridew is an ordinary boy who turns into a perfect savage. Jack is the leader
to a group of boys called the choir. In the beginning of the novel, we see the choir as
a creature in the distance. When they arrive Jack acts almost like a military
sergeant shouting orders at them. The way Jack treats them brings to mind of an
army of authority and arrogance. With Jack so used to being in charge, when
Ralph is elected leader his face has a blush of mortification, and doesn t like the
decision. Jack is arrogant as when he is introduced to Ralph he insists that he is
called by his first name Merridew . Ralph is fair haired and he, at the end, has the
most sense of decency whereas Jack is red haired. The connotation of red could...

The boys carried on collecting firewood and bathing, without worrying about the
events the previous night. Piggy was the strongest in mind yet weakest in body, so he
was the person that would fall victim to bullying. When Simon died, he tries to avoid
bringing the incident up. When Ralph brought up the incident Piggy denied that it
was on purpose, but just a mere accident. The significance of this death was that when
he died, it brought the boys from civilised to savage, as they ceased to see the
difference between a fellow human and an animal (the beast). Another significant
event is the death of Piggy. He died from trying to talk some sense into the
opposing tribe. Piggy, on the island was the adult inside all of them; he is a logical,
intelligent and a rational thinker. His name Piggy makes the reader think of a boy
who is not very fit and lonely. When Piggy died talking sense to Jack, without any
remorse Roger crushed his skull with a boulder. The significance of Piggy s death
was that he was the only one left on Ralph s side so when he died, it left Ralph
alone. Also, Piggy was holding the conch at the time so when the conch shattered, it
represented the loss of rational thinking, civilisation and the start of savagery and the
end of kindness, morality and self respect.
Golding describes the deaths of Piggy and Simon in two very different ways. Simon s
death is described over two pages and

North American department store operations of the 1960s and early 1970s, before

Each store or chain operated within a narrow range of price points, with some very

Wholesalers sold to a range of smaller sized stores in both the larger and smaller

there was not always a clear distinction between retail and wholesale, in that some

The Adoption Of Building Information Modeling
1.0Introduction It has been recognised that it is common to have much higher real
construction costs than what was predicted at early design and plan phrase. Poor data
and information management as one of the major reasons causes costoverruns has
achieved $16 billion a year in US construction industry given by recent research
carried out by US NIST (2004). The adoption of Building Information Modeling
(BIM) was then suggested and encouraged by many expertise which has been proved
in many practical construction cases in the past that BIM would help to efficiently
reduce the information costs throughout the construction process. In this paper the
researcher will briefly introduce the background and development of BIM. The
relationship between BIM adoption and project cost saving in Architects, Engineering
and Construction (AEC) industry will also be analysed. Besides, this paper also aims
to discuss the potential impacts of the use of BIM on total duration and project costs
in construction industry. This is carried out through analysing and evaluating the
benefits and innovation of project process within BIM environment. Apart from that,
challenges associated with BIM technology and barriers that prevent people from
adopting BIM technology will be presented in the end. 2.0 The Origin of BIM With
the development of computer technology and much less costs, the adaptability of
BIM collaboration during the design process has been widely embraced by
construction industry.
The Language Of Silence By Maxine Hong Kingston
Language is much more than a method of communication. Permeated within it are
traditions, customs, and legacies of one s culture. The identity of an entire population
is in the distinct vocalizations of their native language. Unfortunately, as a wave of
immigrants enters the United States at young ages, many face language barriers that
pose significant challenges. Language barriers affect a multitude of immigrant
populations to different degrees. This, in turn, causes many of them to abandon not
only their native tongue but a piece of their ethnic identity, as well. In Maxine Hong
Kingston s personal narrative, The Language of Silence, she describes the difficulties
she experienced throughout her childhood with a language barrier as a... Show more

United States Postal Service Vs Ups Research Paper
The American government has always been dominated by an overabundance of
opinion. It began with the founding fathers, opinionated people who refused to back
down against what they considered violations of their natural rights. People who
think they know how to fix everything still run the government today. However, the
present day politicians do not share a united goal. Everyone thinks differently,
witnessed in the numerous parties and philosophies, and these ideas often clash,
resulting in the accomplishment of nothing. Then there are individuals separate from
the governmentwho actually manage to get things done. They are highly motivated,
and do not spend a bunch of time arguing over which person is right. They think
about which idea is right instead. The United StatesPostal Service (USPS) is a great

They are USPS s biggest competitors and are rendering it obsolete. Both FedEx and
UPS are extremely reliable when compared to USPS, and for this reason they are
able to charge more and make more of a profit. USPS even has contracts with
FedEx to deliver some of their mail, as they cannot handle it all. This is due to the
fact that they had to cut costs by decreasing their operations. They cannot compete
with these independent businesses, nor do they have any money to invest in
researching new technologies. They cannot cope with the new digital world, so
UPS and FedEx must pick up the slack. The entire mail industry would do better if it
were completely privatized. More customers would be satisfied and less effort would
put into a failing enterprise. Congress is unwilling, though, to give up one of the
original rights afforded it by the Constitution. It is this obstinacy that is keeping
USPS alive, and that will cause the American government to keep interfering in our

nitrogen, and helium. So the sun is just one great big atom smashing, gas creating,
nuclear furnace that gives off much appreciated energy. But this is not all that
happens on the sun s surface, some exciting stuff does happen up there every once
in a while. Have you ever heard of a solar flare? A solar flare exists after a sunspot
has existed for a long time and the magnetic lines of force usually become jumbled.
As a result of this jumbling, magnetic energy is stored in the Corona (region of
atmosphere above the chromosphere). The energy may be released in a spectacular
discharge, which is a solar flare. A solar flare can be as wide as 367,000 miles and
as high 500,000 miles out into space. A solar flare is nothing more than helium
erupting from the sun like a volcano. Sunspots, where most solar flares occur, are
dark patches on the surface of the sun. This is where the gas of the sun is not so
hot and causes it to take on a different color. A typical sunspot is about 22,000 miles
in diameter and the number visible sunspots from satellites are about 5 to 100, it
varies. How does the sun move? It moves just like earth does, it spins on axis like a
top. As earth moves around the Milky Way galaxy, the sun revolves around the
center of it. It takes one day for the Earth to spin all the way around on the

The Overfishing Of Our Oceans
Overfishing
The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains
about eighty percent of the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world
depend on seafood heavily as a primary source of food. Americans alone consumed
as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of
fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this
particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is
expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing
of our oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species
of fish to become extinct.
According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when
humans killed off massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp
oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also
fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses cases were extremely
harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States
passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA).
This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the
United States shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress
also established eight regional councils with representation from the coastal states and
fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up
Developing A Country s Culture
Kenya has a vast and diverse population all encompassing a rich variety of cultures
and subcultures. The Army defines culture as the learned and shared behaviors and
perceptions of a group which have been transmitted from generations to generations
through a shared symbol system (QuinStreet Inc.) Developing a country s culture
happens through many years of subcultures combining into a common belief system
ultimately providing an overall culture of the country. The definition of subculture is
a group of people within a larger social structure who share cultural and linguistic
characteristics which are different enough to distinguish it from others within the
same society. (QuinStreet Inc.) Kenyans have traveled from all over the world, each
contributing to the way the country is today, some are good and some bad. Culture
has many different characteristics that define the makeup of it in a region or country.
Kenyas location, history, people, politics, society and struggles have all contributed to
this ever changing culture and people of this nation. Kenya is located in East Africa
and borders Somalia to the northeast, Ethiopia to the north, Sudan to the northwest,
Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south and the Indian Ocean to the east. (Culture
of Kenya) Kenya is mostly plains covered by bush and underbrush, some highlands in
the west, and huge sandy beaches on the eastern border. Other significant features are
Lake Victoria, which is the main source that feeds
Analysis Of A Classroom Interview
The classroom interview allowed both of us to learn new experiences from each
other. Throughout the interview we were able to listen and understand, while also
speaking our own voice. It was really interesting to learn about someone else in the
classroom. Being fully present with another person s happiness opened us up to new
experiences such as being more empathetic and able to relate to each other. During
our interviewwe were both exposed to a variety of experiences while being the
listener. Brandon s experience while being the listener was really interesting. I
found it very cool how we were able to relate to each other through many different
topics. Probably the most relatable topic we discussed was our love for travel. Like
Madison, I have traveled with my family throughout the world and got to experience
so many different cultures. While I was the listener I really wanted to interrupt so
that I could share my thoughts, but I restrained myself. Throughout the interview, I
found it fascinating how she traveled to Asia,... Show more content on

Brandon s experience while being listened to was very interesting. Being listened
to generally made me relax. However, I did feel that it was a bit awkward to talk
about personal stuff when we just started talking. Although, as the conversation
progressed it became less awkward. When I started answering the questions
presented I really found the things I was most passionate about. One thing I am
definitely passionate about is the ability to travel and see other cultures. As soon as
I started talking about travel I could instantly tell that Madison was interested in
hearing me. As Madison became more interested in what I had to say it became
more comforting to me, as well as made it a more meaningful conversation. My
listening experience was very fulfilling and it was cool to share my love of travel

Modernization Of Modernity, And Modernizations In
Latin...
Modernity(ies) and modernizations in Latin America
Despite some authors highlight ancients forms of communication or even proto
communication during pre colonial times in Latin America (Ferreira, 2006),
professional journalism as we currently know it is actually a product of Modernity
(Nerone, 2012). Modernity is, overall, an unfinished western project (Habermas,
1983) and its very conditions of possibility are strongly rooted in colonialism as its
very spatial and material dimensions. So, colonialism fluxes and influxes not only
spread the intellectual project of the Enlightenment at the same time its imperialistic
vocation of domination, but also cultural practices that have been adopted/adapted in
complex and complicated ways by the colonized. Therefore, the introduction of
modern technologies such as press and journalism simultaneously carried out the
ideals of Enlightenment and embedded colonization, exploitation, a global division of
racial labor, and the production of a differentiate humanity (Quijano, 2000).
The concept of Modernity has been highly problematized by Latin American thinkers
(GarcГa Canclini, 1992b; MartГn Barbero, 1995; MartГn Barbero White, 1993;
Quijano, 2000) as a Western construct, a colonial enterprise, and a failed project. In
that vein, GarcГa Canclini (1992) conceives Latin America as a complex articulation
of traditions and modernity(ies), deployed in divergent times experiences, far beyond
a linear conceptualization of progress, and
Cambrian Period Essay
Cambrian period 543 490 million years Introduction The Cambrian Period marks
the beginning of the Paleozoic Era. This period gets its name from a place in
Wales where the first examples of this type of ancient life was found. The period
lasted for nearly 53 million years, from about 543 million years ago until 490
million years ago. The Cambrian Period marks an important point in the history of
life on earth; it is the time when most of the major groups of animals first appear in
the fossil record. This event is sometimes called the Cambrian Explosion , because of
the relatively short time over which this diversity of forms appears. It was once
thought that the Cambrian rocks contained the... Show more content on

Many Early Cambrian invertebrates are known only from small shelly fossils tiny
plates and scales and spines and tubes and so on. Many of these were probably
pieces of the skeletons of larger animals. Arthropods Many of the Cambrian
creatures appear to be arthropods, the large classification of animals that includes
insects, spiders, crabs, and lobsters. An animal similar to the lobopod, Aysheaia
might represent a step in this transformation: It appears to be a worm with legs ,
which are lobopods. A lobopod consists of muscles surrounding a blood filled
cavity. Lobopods are soft and pliable but they accomplish the purpose of moving
the animal along. Each lobopod has a couple of claws at its end and the front two
have spikes which apparently serve the purpose of grasping prey. Anomalocaris
may also lie in the line leading to arthropods: Anomalocaris shows its relation to the
lobopodians by having lobopods for legs. In addition it has a tail fan and flaplike
projections that perform several purposes: protection, propulsion, and respiration: A
vast variety of arthropods and closely related animals evolved:
Ethnography Of Spatial Migration
What would happen if people granted the right to move freely all over the world?
And if borders controls were repressed regarding migrating? The
Migration Without Borders scenario sometimes called open borders is increasingly
being under the spotlight by academics and policymakers while receiving support
from different organizations, including human rights watch movements and
economists. In such a globalized world in which migration flows seem to escape
countries attempts to curb or regulate immigration, it appears to be a challenging idea
to adopt a critical rethinking of current migration policies and practices. This essay
explores the ethnography of spatial migration by presenting the refugees current

For example, German Americans have impacted the American culture and way of life
in some profound ways. The founders of the most well known breweries in the nation
were German immigrants. The Brooklyn Bridge was designed and engineered by
German immigrant, John A. Roebling.
This was the first steel wire suspension bridge in the world. The
Chinese Opera House was the first Chinese theatre in 1890. A structure that can be
found on Doyers street which represents the contribution the Chinese people made to
NYC s physical built environment and culture. Mulberry Street was at the centre of
Little Italy in NYC.
Italian immigrants used to be family oriented and Little Italy reflected that aspect of
Italian culture in the
Italian family business ,cuisine, and historical architecture. The combination of the
various cultures have blended into the melting pot many metropolises have become.
Immigrant from different groups and nationalities brought with them their cultural
practice s , traditions and religious belief s, which could be seen till present day.
With each wave of immigration the structure and the urban fabric of a city will
change to accommodate the new arrivals. As a result, the people will change the
appearance of the city
Features Of Oligopoly
Introduction What is Oligopoly? The word oligopoly has been coined from the
Greek words: Oligi means few polein means to sell. Thus, Oligopoly is a market
scenario which comprises of few sellers (more than 2) of differentiated or
homogenous product. Features of Oligopoly Main features of oligopoly are as
follows 1.Small numbers of firms The number of large firms dominating the
market are few. 2.Interdependence Since the No. of Firms are few, so the action
taken by one firm would definitely affect the other firms as well. A change in price
can evoke reaction from other firms. 3.Non price Competition A change in price by
one firm will bring reactions from other firms. To avoid price wars, a policy of price
rigidity is followed. Firms rely on advertising, better... Show more content on

Non Collusive Oligopoly When there are no agreements between the companies in
the oligopoly market, then it is called Non collusive Oligopoly. Herfindahl
Hirschman Index (HHI) Herfindahl Hirschman Index is a degree of concentration
of few large firms dominating an industry. It is calculated as the sum of squares of
market shares of the firm within the industry. Here the market shares are expressed
in percentage or in fractions. Its range lies between 0 to 1.0, in other words it
moves from huge number of small firms in an industry to a single monopolistic
producer. As HHI increases it shows a decline in competition and increase in
market power. In case percentage is used for calculation the index range changes
from 0 to 10000 points. Eg. Index of .4 = 4000 points. Formula: In India, industries
such automobiles, cement, steel, cold drinks, cigarettes etc are examples of
oligopolistic market. All these industries have few firms for each product. In this
report we would be analysing the market share of cigarette industry and cold drink
industry in India and calculate their HHI as well as forecast next year s market
share. Discussion about Oligopoly and HHI in Indian
A New Telescope s The Peak Of The Hawaiian Mountain
Mauna Kea
Everything You Need To Know About The Thirty Meter Telescope Protests In 2009,
a proposal to build a new telescope atop the peak of the Hawaiian Mountain Mauna
Kea started what may be the biggest media storm in scientific history, and it has been
brewing ever since...
What is Mauna Kea? Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. It has
an altitude of 13,976 feet above sea level, the highest of any mountain in Hawaii, and
is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from the base below sea level.
Roughly translating to Sky Father Mountain in Hawaiian, Mauna Kea culturally
represents the Realm of the Gods in Hawaiian lore. It is a sacred ground considered
to be where Earth and the gods are connected, the burial ground of many Hawaiian
ancestors, and is overall of extreme significance in Hawaiian culture.
Why Do Scientists Want to Build A Telescope There? Generally in astronomy, light
pollution and thick atmospheres distort and impair images from optics like
telescopes. Light pollution crowds out the targets being observed, while the
atmosphere dims the light received from them. When choosing the location for the
building of a new telescope, it is highly beneficial to build in areas with a thinner
atmosphere and low light pollution . This is why mountaintops are typically the
preferred sites for new telescopes, and why Mauna Kea is a highly desirable
location. A new telescope called the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) is revolutionary in
San Diego Zoo Observation Paper
Visiting the San Diego Zoo I was able to observe and gain a deeper understanding of
the Black Mangabey,Western Lowland Gorillas, and Sumatran Orangutan. Through
my visit I was able to learn more about the different primates, their traits, habitats,
eating habits, and interactions. Thus, allowing myself to gain a visual and up close
understanding of the primates we learned about in class through the lectures.
The first primate I observed at the zoo was the Black Mangabey. The Black
Mangabey is located in the damp forests in the central Congo Basin in Africa(Zoo
Placards Black Mangabey 2015). Furthermore, these monkeys move through all
levels of a forest canopy, seldom coming to the ground (Zoo Placards Black
Mangabey 2015). The Black Mangabeys are not only some of the most rare
monkeys but the most endangered species of monkey(San Diego Zoo Website
2015). The Black crested Mangabeys scientific name is the Lophocebus Aterrimus.
The Black Mangabey is identified by their black hair and the long grayish brown
whiskers that almost cover their ears and a high crest on their head (San Diego Zoo
Website 2015).
The enclosure contained a lot of trees and rope for the Black Mangabeys to climb
and swing around in. There were no leaves on the trees, ... Show more content on

Also the enclosure had a lot of roaming room and resting areas for the great apes.
Seven gorillas populated this exclosure and it was not an exhibit of mixed species.
While I visited the Western Lowland Gorilla I mostly observed them resting.
However there was a small baby in the exhibit which interacted and watched the
visitors while climbing all over its resting mother. After a while the baby started
feeding on it mother and once it was done it climbed on her back as she began to
roam around the enclosure. It was very intriguing to watch the baby interact with its
mother and witness it being
Symbolism In Roman Fever
Roman Fever, by Edith Wharton, follows two old friends, Alida Slade and Grace
Ansley, accidentally meeting in Rome after many years apart. The two have a long
history together and spent their whole lies in contest and conflict. Mrs. Slade is a
loud and jealous woman, who always held a deep rooted resentment for Mrs.
Ansley. Mrs. Ansley is the more reserved of the two and self controlled. The setting
of their conversation holds deep significance. Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade both
coincidentally are on vacation in Rome, a place of love and beauty. The two eat
dinner together on a terrace overlooking Rome. The romantic scenery reflects the
origin of their rivalry. In their youth, both women vied for the attention of a young
man, Delphin Slade. Mrs. Slade seems anxious to prove her worth over her longtime
friend, however, in reality, Mrs. Ansley is the one who has influence over Mrs. Slade.
Wharton uses moonlight and knittingto reveal Mrs. Slade s shallow attempts to
project and hold power over Mrs. Ansley, but her ultimate failure since in the end it
is Mrs. Slade who falls apart.
Moonlight serves as a motif, the darker it inches to night, the darker the nature of the
women s conversation, and the more panicked Mrs. Slade is. They sit outside, talking
about their daughters in the light of the evening or exchanging in a deep silence. It
seemed as though, to both, as there was a relief in laying down their somewhat futile
activities in the presence of the vast Memento Mori
Notes On Paul s Teachings
Carter Viles
Ethics
Monday, June 8th, 2015
Paul s Teachings Paul was born as Saul of Tarsus. He was both a Jew and a Roman
citizen. He became a prosecutor of those who follow Jesus and accepted him as
their Lord and King. Saul was not trying to being mean by doing this. He thought
of it as just working against an enemy of his own Jewish faith. One day he was on
the way to Damascus and a bright heavenly light came down from above and
blinded him. He was struck to the ground and a voice called out to him saying Saul,
why do you persecute me? He responded by saying Who are you, Lord? Lord, what
will you have me do? The voice identified itself as Jesus whom you persecute . Jesus
told Saul to continue to Damascus where he would be given ... Show more content on

He also instructed the people in their everyday living, and gave warning to the world.
Paul also taught that there is One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father
of all. (Eph. 4:5 6.) Paul emphasized unity of faith: Now I beseech you, brethren, by
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there
be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same
mind and in the same judgment. The ungodliness of which Paul warned is present
in our world today, and becoming increasingly more prevalent. But just as he gave
us warning, he also gave us guidance, and counseled: Wherefore take unto you the
whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, ...Having
your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking
the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God: Praying always. (Eph. 6:13 18.) Paul believed that Christ had come
for all and the observances of Jewish Law were not necessary for those who believed
in Christ. In Paul s thought the

  • 2. Review Of 10 Things I Hate About You Chick Flick Essay Name: Menna Alaa Student number: 142 Subject: Women Studies 10 Things I Hate About You Chick Flick Analysis A Chick Flick as broadly agreed upon is the kind of films that mostly appeal to a female audience. Even the name itself is a bit offensive. It implies that films having female characters are appealing just to women spectators, and films with men, as protagonists are more commonly considered as widespread, while those who have bunches of ladies in them are so called Chick Flicks , and in this way, a corner shallow kind. Most of the time these films convey the point that ladies live happily ever after when they get the chance to discover intimate romance. Other Chick Flicks introduce a solid female protagonist but, as the film advances the hero needs to change herself of to adjust to her end goal to observe affection, to be recognized by her adoration intrigue, or to fit into her partner s life. Most commonly the female protagonist is a stunningly beautiful woman, who likewise happens to be blonde rather than a brunette, youthful, white and thin. Yet she needs to have a blemish, which would make her more human and in this way, more relatable to lots of people. 10 Things I Hate About Youis likely the most clear illustration. However she definitely must be physically dazzling like all the female characters in the film, with a specific end goal to keep the present magnificence ongoing.
  • 3. Dr. Erik Herzog s Talk Summary I attended the What wakes us up: Networked Circadian Clocks in The Brain talk by Dr. Erik Herzog from Washington University. The talk was extremely interesting and helped me better understand the circadian system s in human s behavior. The first fact that I think is extremely interesting is how our daily rhythm is driven by a small part of the brain called suprachiasmatic nucleus. Our brains are well designed and perfectly localized that each part of the brain responsible for only specific function. However, since everything in the brain is connected, the shift in one part can greatly affect the others. I have also learned that neuroscience research is a broad field that involved interdisciplinarity from multiple fields. To study how the circadian system in our body work, researchers from Dr. Herzog s Laboratory has been using both in vitro, in vivo and behavior observing techniques. At the beginning of the talk, it is interesting to see how the behavior of the mouse changed when researcher removed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers used luciferase on fireflies to study this mechanism. The result showed some significant results about how this clock gene affect behaviors. With enough enzyme, researchers can repress the DNA at the clock gene and completely change the behavior of any animal. The gene also provided some explanations for how light exposure can change human s behaviors. From the talk, Dr. Herzog mentioned that the VIP (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide) cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus can respond to light. Therefore, when the light shifts our daily behavior, it means that the VIP cells must be activated somehow in the SCN. The activation of VIP results in a chain of reactions inside the suprachiasmatic nucleus and cause a shift in circadian

This gathering was named Maroons , which implied outlaw slaves taking to the forested areas. (Pachai, Beneath the Clouds 2) The Maroons earned their name in light of the fact that they were a gathering of African plummet slaves in Jamaica who opposed the framework in that nation. Numerous Maroons settled in Preston and Guysborough. Amid the Maroon entry, their administrations were used every now and again by both the Nova Scotian government and the Loyalists. The displacement of the Black Loyalists in 1792 had constrained the staying with pioneers needing specialists. The Maroons were utilized in the military and by storeowners who contracted
  • 5. Reactance Window Drying Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in the drying process is usually known as
  • 6. Elasmobranchs are a Subclass Chondrichthyes that are... PART I The Elasmobranchs are a subclass of class Chondrichthyes. The Chondrichthyes are classified as the Cartilaginous fishes. Aside from the Elasmobranchs, this class has another subclass named Holocephali which is comprised of the chimaera. The Elasmobranchs are comprised of sharks (Selachii) and the rays and the similarly structured skates (Batoidea) Van Eyl, S. M., Siebeck, U. E., Champ, C. M., Marshal, J., Hart, N. S. (2011). There have been fossils of sharks found dating about 400 million years and while there is much data that points to diversification throughout the millennia, skates and rays only appear about 200 100 million years ago (Wilga 2005). The Elasmobranchs are classified apart from other fishes despite their external similarities due to several key structural differences. One of these is the absence of a swim bladder. True fishes use this gas filled organ to control their buoyancy without having to waste physical energy on maintaining the desired depth in water. Instead, the Elasmobranchs have developed especially large livers that can produce and withhold large amounts of oil. This is especially evident in the sharks where the liver can sometimes weigh up to 20 percent of their total body weight. Further characteristics that define the Elasmobranch subclass include placoid scales or dermal denticles. These are homologous to true scales in function but are closer in structure to teeth (hence their name). The scales are comprised of a pulp cavity
  • 7. Hydraulic Fracture Case Study In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was used in early 2D hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress normal to the fracture plane exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based models were suitable for coupling with reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari, and Sullivan 2009). 3D grid based models were extended to deal with multiple fractures, for example, the MultiFrac Placement Pseudo 3D (MLF P3D) model (Dontsov and Peirce 2015). These models are very complex being capable of simulating multiple hydraulic fractures simultaneously propagating from multiple perforation intervals where each perforation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2015). The Unconventional Fracture Model (UFM), developed by Cipolla et al. (2010), considers the effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of the mechanical properties of fracture morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM model can simulate the propagation of asymmetric fracture networks accounting for fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic deformation of the fractures. The initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the fracture network, mass conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D model (Weng 2015). Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale plays and even within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith (2009) emphasized the importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale play for a successful hydraulic fracturing stimulation (Britt and Smith 2009). In addition, Rickman et al. (2008) stressed that the mechanical rock properties, such as brittleness and mineralogy, are fundamental in completion designs. While ductile shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural fractures which react to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). In general, the Young s Modulus of the shale measured parallel to the bedding plane is greater than that measured perpendicular to the bedding plane. Sone and Zoback (2013) explained the role of anisotropy on the

  • 9. Music Is A Universal Medium Essay There are certain elements and forms of expression that help to define cultures and time periods. Music is a form of art and expression that ties cultures and humanity together well also allowing each culture to add the own unquietness. We may not realize it but music penetrates almost every aspect of our lives. Music is used in celebrations such as a in a wedding or bar mitzvah music is even used to commemorate someone s life as they are laid to rest. Music is a universal medium. Everyone and anyone can find meaning and some personal connection music. Music has the ability to elicit powerful emotions or memories. A certain song could remind someone of a very happy time in their life such as being on a beach or at a cookout with friends and family. Music has the ability to elicit powerful emotions in us such as happiness and can transport us mentally back to that moment in time where we were and what was happening to elicit those emotions. Music can bring out negative emotions in us as well. Someone could hear a song that reminds them of their first break up which may bring about feelings of sadness and cause that person to relive a painful experience. Perhaps one of the most powerful elements music possesses is that it allows us to project in our mind and become something we are not. For example if you hear a rock song that excites you, maybe you imagine yourself as the star quarterback throwing for the game winning touchdown. Maybe if a country song comes on the radio you
  • 10. Summary Of The Poem Happy By Forde Forde s central claim was that no matter the age group or what type of music you liked, this song was sure to have you up dancing to the beat. Forde also makes the claim that no matter how repetitive this song is, people are still going to get up and dance or sing along to it every time it comes on. The passage states that Happy has gone a bit further and has pan generational appeal. (224) Forde also claims that because Happy has pulled off some of the impossible things. But getting an audience reaction like that at the bowls that s proper success. (221) The secondary claims Forde uses are from Dr. Lauren Stewart and Dr. Elizabeth Margulis. Dr. Lauren Stewart suggests that It s a very poppy tune and it transcends a few different
  • 11. How Hadoop Is An Apache Open Source Software ( Java... Hadoop is an Apache open source software (java framework). It runs on cluster of commodity machines and provides both distributed storage and distributed processing of huge data sets. It is capable of processing data sizes ranging from Gigabytes to Petabytes. Architecture : Similar to master / slave architecture. The master is the Namenode and the Slaves are the data nodes. The Namenode maintains and manages blocks of datanodes. They are responsible for dealing with clients requests of data. Hadoop splits the files into one or more blocks and these blocks are stored on datanodes. Each datanode is replicated to provide fault tolerance characteristic of Hadoop. Default replicator factor is 3 which can be configured. Components: 1.Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS): It is designed to run on hardware which are less expensive and the data is stored in it distributed. It is highly fault tolerance and provides high throughput access to the applications that require big data. 2.Namenode: It manages the system namespace. It stores the metadata of data blocks. The metadata is stored in the form of namespace image and edit logs on a local machine. The namenode knows the location of each datablock on the data node. 3.Secondary Namenode: It is responsible for merging the namespace image and edit log to create check points. This would help namenode to free up memory taken up by edits logs from the start to the latest check point. 4.DataNode: Stores blocks of data and

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emphysema is the most common cause of death from respiratory disease in the United States and is generally caused by several years of heavy cigarette smoking (Olendorf, 2000). When a person smokes, the body s immune system tries to fight off the invading smoke by using certain substances. These substances can also attack the cells of the lungs, but normally the body is able to release other substances to prevent this. In the case of people who are smokers, this doesn t happen and the original substances that were released to fight off the smoke also end up injuring the cells of the lungs as well. Eventually, the lungs will not be able to supply enough oxygen to the blood and a host of problems can occur with this. Risk factors that have been identified for emphysema include exposure to tobacco smoke either through active or passive smoking (2nd hand smoke), occupational exposure such as dust or chemicals, ambient air pollution, or genetic abnormalities, including a deficiency of alpha antitrypsin, an enzyme inhibitor that normally counteracts the destruction of lung tissue by certain other enzymes (Smeltzer, 2010). The symptoms of emphysema develop gradually over many years. It is generally characterized by three primary symptoms: chronic cough, sputum production, and dyspnea on exertion. Other signs and symptoms include weight loss and the development of a

Many were reached by passage through large expanses of fast food operations, occupying space leased from the supermarket. Department stores carried a broad range of merchandise categories and, in that sense were comparable to North American department store operations of the 1960s and early 1970s, before the development of “category killer” specialty stores and price clubs. Each store or chain operated within a narrow range of price points, with some very noticeable price point differences across chains. Retail margins were in the range of 10% to 15%, with high price point stores taking even higher margins. Department stores and supermarkets usually bought directly from manufacturers. Wholesalers sold to a range of smaller sized stores in both the larger and smaller urban areas. They generally bought at the same price as the large direct accounts, and worked on margins of 3% to 5% of their selling price. It should be noted that there was not always a clear distinction between retail and wholesale, in that some retailers acted as a wholesaler for some lines, and some wholesalers sold at retail as well. Van dealers sold to downscale corner variety stores and small market stalls. They sold in very small quantities (e.g. three to six pieces) and ex truck and on a cash basis. In 1989, approximately 65% of Johnson Johnson sales were direct to retailers, 15% to

  • 33. The Adoption Of Building Information Modeling 1.0Introduction It has been recognised that it is common to have much higher real construction costs than what was predicted at early design and plan phrase. Poor data and information management as one of the major reasons causes costoverruns has achieved $16 billion a year in US construction industry given by recent research carried out by US NIST (2004). The adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) was then suggested and encouraged by many expertise which has been proved in many practical construction cases in the past that BIM would help to efficiently reduce the information costs throughout the construction process. In this paper the researcher will briefly introduce the background and development of BIM. The relationship between BIM adoption and project cost saving in Architects, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry will also be analysed. Besides, this paper also aims to discuss the potential impacts of the use of BIM on total duration and project costs in construction industry. This is carried out through analysing and evaluating the benefits and innovation of project process within BIM environment. Apart from that, challenges associated with BIM technology and barriers that prevent people from adopting BIM technology will be presented in the end. 2.0 The Origin of BIM With the development of computer technology and much less costs, the adaptability of BIM collaboration during the design process has been widely embraced by construction industry.

The identity of an entire population is in the distinct vocalizations of their native language. Unfortunately, as a wave of immigrants enters the United States at young ages, many face language barriers that pose significant challenges. Language barriers affect a multitude of immigrant populations to different degrees. This, in turn, causes many of them to abandon not only their native tongue but a piece of their ethnic identity, as well. That is until one event, in particular, occurred that would cast a shadow of embarrassment onto my Spanish language. This event not only led me to desert my entire native language but a sense of my cultural identity, as well. Every afternoon, my mother would take my siblings and I down to the community park. It was a tradition of sorts. The leaves on the trees were brown, only days past Halloween. I sat under the dappled afternoon sun and played in the sand. On this particular day, however, a young girl approached me. Confused, I offered her a friendly smile but was, instead, greeted by the sand she kicked in my direction. Once my mother took notice of this, she came forward and placed a hand over the young girl s leg without physically touching her. Stop, she said. With this one word, the girl ran off. After a minute or so, an older woman approached my mother and I, with a string of curse words. It was the parent of the girl from earlier. Her husband attempted
  • 35. United States Postal Service Vs Ups Research Paper The American government has always been dominated by an overabundance of opinion. It began with the founding fathers, opinionated people who refused to back down against what they considered violations of their natural rights. People who think they know how to fix everything still run the government today. However, the present day politicians do not share a united goal. Everyone thinks differently, witnessed in the numerous parties and philosophies, and these ideas often clash, resulting in the accomplishment of nothing. Then there are individuals separate from the governmentwho actually manage to get things done. They are highly motivated, and do not spend a bunch of time arguing over which person is right. They think about which idea is right instead. The United StatesPostal Service (USPS) is a great example of government intervening in something and failing at it, while individuals succeed on... But this is not all that happens on the sun s surface, some exciting stuff does happen up there every once in a while. Have you ever heard of a solar flare? A solar flare exists after a sunspot has existed for a long time and the magnetic lines of force usually become jumbled. As a result of this jumbling, magnetic energy is stored in the Corona (region of atmosphere above the chromosphere). The energy may be released in a spectacular discharge, which is a solar flare. A solar flare can be as wide as 367,000 miles and as high 500,000 miles out into space. A solar flare is nothing more than helium erupting from the sun like a volcano. Sunspots, where most solar flares occur, are dark patches on the surface of the sun. This is where the gas of the sun is not so hot and causes it to take on a different color. A typical sunspot is about 22,000 miles in diameter and the number visible sunspots from satellites are about 5 to 100, it varies. How does the sun move? Millions of people all over the world depend on seafood heavily as a primary source of food. Americans alone consumed as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing of our oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species of fish to become extinct. According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when humans killed off massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA). This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the United States shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress also established eight regional councils with representation from the coastal states and fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up

  • 43. Modernization Of Modernity, And Modernizations In Latin... Modernity(ies) and modernizations in Latin America Despite some authors highlight ancients forms of communication or even proto communication during pre colonial times in Latin America (Ferreira, 2006), professional journalism as we currently know it is actually a product of Modernity (Nerone, 2012). Modernity is, overall, an unfinished western project (Habermas, 1983) and its very conditions of possibility are strongly rooted in colonialism as its very spatial and material dimensions. So, colonialism fluxes and influxes not only spread the intellectual project of the Enlightenment at the same time its imperialistic vocation of domination, but also cultural practices that have been adopted/adapted in complex and complicated ways by the colonized. Therefore, the introduction of modern technologies such as press and journalism simultaneously carried out the ideals of Enlightenment and embedded colonization, exploitation, a global division of racial labor, and the production of a differentiate humanity (Quijano, 2000). The concept of Modernity has been highly problematized by Latin American thinkers (GarcГa Canclini, 1992b; MartГn Barbero, 1995; MartГn Barbero White, 1993; Quijano, 2000) as a Western construct, a colonial enterprise, and a failed project. In that vein, GarcГa Canclini (1992) conceives Latin America as a complex articulation of traditions and modernity(ies), deployed in divergent times experiences, far beyond a linear conceptualization of progress, and

What is Mauna Kea? Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. It has an altitude of 13,976 feet above sea level, the highest of any mountain in Hawaii, and is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from the base below sea level. Roughly translating to Sky Father Mountain in Hawaiian, Mauna Kea culturally represents the Realm of the Gods in Hawaiian lore. It is a sacred ground considered to be where Earth and the gods are connected, the burial ground of many Hawaiian ancestors, and is overall of extreme significance in Hawaiian culture. Why Do Scientists Want to Build A Telescope There? Generally in astronomy, light pollution and thick atmospheres distort and impair images from optics like telescopes. Light pollution crowds out the targets being observed, while the atmosphere dims the light received from them. When choosing the location for the building of a new telescope, it is highly beneficial to build in areas with a thinner atmosphere and low light pollution . This is why mountaintops are typically the preferred sites for new telescopes, and why Mauna Kea is a highly desirable location.
