Essay on Cannery Row
John Steinbeck s Cannery Row shows how people living there dealt with the hardships brought by the
Great Depression. Steinbeck set his novel in the 1930 s in Cannery Row, California. The canneries are
an integral part of the fish industry and Steinbeck makes the ailing American economy a critical part
of everyone s lives in his novel. He show how different characters, with different points of view with
the exact same situation.
A cannery is the place where food gets canned to be later sent to food stores or markets. Marine
biology plays a part in the fish industry because the fish and other sea creatures must be captured first
as they enter the food canning process. The first cannery built was the canning of salmon in Monterey,

Triggered by the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and compounded by the drought that created the Dust
Bowl. Steinbeck shows the people of Cannery Row in their natural, everyday environment and how
they react toward different situations and different people. Therefore, there is little in the way of a
plot. A couple of key situations do provide indirect characterization and highlight the hardships people
suffered during the depression.
A corpse is found by Doc and it reminds him of his deceased love, bringing back painful memories
This shows the negative side of the world and society s cruelties. Doc is handling of the situation
suggests that in Cannery Row, no problem is too major to deal with. Another character was named
Hazel because in his family the name was considered lucky with regard to wealth. This underscores
how interested everyone was in increasing wealth.
Cannery Row also includes realistic details that give readers a good seuse of what daily life was like
during the Great Depression. Frog collecting was a profit making activity, with each frog five cents. A
nickel was not to be ignored at that time in our history although today one hardly bothers to pick them
up off the sidewalk. The first satisfactory car, the Model T, is noted to be a fine vehicle even though it
broke down, forcing the driver and passengers to camp out. Today, cars are much more reliable and
advanced and have many unnecessary features that the Model T did not have.

The Bhagavad Gita Essay
The Bhagavad Gita as translated by Juan Mascaro is a poem based on ancient Sanskrit literature
contained in eighteen chapters. The period of time, around which it was written, although it is merely
an educated guess, was approximately 500 BCE. ...there are a few archaic words and expressions,
some of the greatest scholars have considered it pre Buddhistic, i.e. about 500 BC, (Bhagavad Gita,
xxiv). This quote is found in the introduction to the book and further explains that the exact time it
was written is undeterminable. Although the words and dialogue are very different than that of the
English language to which most are accustomed to, the spiritual messages throughout the entire book
are very clear and meaningful. There are two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The contents of the eighteen chapters are very basically the acquisition of the correct knowledge to
achieve such a conclusion.
The piece of spiritual knowledge that carries the most weight throughout the Bhagavad Gita is the
responsibility of the individual. Before one can accept the responsibility of one s self, one must
differentiate between the temporary material body and the eternal spirit soul. Everyone must engage in
some sort of activity in this material world, however one s own actions can do one of two things. They
may bind you to this material world, or liberate one from it. By living life selflessly and placing full
faith and trust in the Supreme Truth, one will be lead to that higher path. The idea of self responsibility
is not merely being accountable for your faults, but living according to the wants and needs of a higher
power. Simply, the responsibility of the individual is to submit fully to the Supreme truth, and live one
s life righteously in the quest for that truth.
In trying to explain this Supreme Truth as well as other aspects of life, Krishna appeals to Arjuna in
several arguments. Just when Arjuna believes he is headed for the great battle, he falls to his knees in
despair, Fall not into degrading weakness, for this becomes a man who is not a man. Throw off this
ignoble discouragement, and arise like a fire that burns all before it (Bhagavad Gita, 2). Arjuna is a

The Pros And Cons Of High School Students
One of the problems teachers in America fear with students is whether they should have a job. Most
students, in their junior and senior year of high school, have part time jobs. However, junior year and
senior year claims to be the busiest years of a high school student. So particularly, teachers feel as if
students shouldn t work too much or they shouldn t work at all being that they may overwork
themselves or not stay focus on school. Students should have the benefit of working through high
school if it s going to be beneficial later in life or college even if they have to go through some
setbacks or lessons learned.
Being that most teens want to work during their high school journey, they have to understand that
there are pros and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting a job in high school and having a résumé, it won t actually be too many jobs on the list so in
that case, it s not going to exactly qualify as genuine work involvement. Most teens would most likely
be working at fast food restaurants, cashiers, babysitters, and etc. There are a few jobs that won t have
a high pay, but it ll be enough just for a high school student working.
Having time management is very import in today s generation. Being a high school student and having
a job at the same time will definitely be beneficial for future references. It teaches them how boost
their self esteem, credit hours, and be responsible like an adult. Time management is basically what
takes over being a high school student. It s the most important idea in high school. Learning how to
manage more than one thing at a time will only be helpful for when the student is about to start their
college life. It s like the student is starting ahead of time while they re in high school so they can know
what to expect in college. In high school and having a job could be less more difficult than having a
job in college. In college, you re going to deal with more credit hours, more duties and have more life
experiences.
Most people get excited when they get a job. Sometimes, the excitement can become into stress. Being
a high school student can overall be stressful alone. Wanting a job and dealing with school is only
adding more weight onto some that may not can handle alone. With

William Wordsworth s Poem And Tintern Abbey
In the preface to Lyrical Ballads, William Wordsworth remarks on the subject matter of his and
Samuel Taylor Coleridge s joint collection of poetry, Low and rustic life was generally chosen,
because in that condition, the essential passions of the heart find a better soil in which they can attain
their maturity (295). It seems fitting that Coleridge s Frost at Midnight and Wordsworth s Tintern
Abbey both found a home in this book of poetry because both celebrate nature s ability to mold a
person spiritually, philosophically, morally, and aesthetically. However, both writers come from very
different perspectives. While Wordsworth was raised in the beautiful countryside of the Lake District,
Coleridge was brought to London at an early age. Their environments had a profound affect on these
writers. At the end of the poems, Wordsworth vows that he will always be a lover of nature, while
Coleridge vows to raise his son to experience this same love because he was deprived of this
relationship as child. Both of these poems remark on nature s gifts to man, but Frost At Midnight
reveals that a childhood apart from nature can have damaging repercussions for the adult, such as
feelings of loneliness and hopelessness. The effects of proximity to a natural environment are shown
in these poems as their speakers react to being alone. As Wordsworth revisits the banks of the Wye and
becomes reacquainted with the sights of his boyhood, he remarks that the wild secluded scene fills

Emotions In Horror Films
I personally tend not to be a big fan of horror movies, although in the past I have watched some
suspense films as occasional entertainment. Having witnessed difficult situations in real life does not
bring me closer toward those movie genres which aim to terrorize audiences. Because of this, I cannot
really handpick a particular scene or film which has caused the biggest fright. I will rather explain my
point of view regarding this genre and our interactions with it.
Most, if not all of us, have experienced intense emotions when watching films in these categories.
Modern society, not only in America, but elsewhere, has become addicted to intense emotions and
almost immune to the carnage and terror found in many horror films. Long gone ... Show more

The effects of a movie or a TV show stay in our minds long after they have ended. Movies do expand
our intelligence and emotions, and make us feel sensations that are not usually experienced in our day
to day lives. They also help us understand life and remind us what humans are capable of doing, both
in the terms of good actions and evil deeds. But the necessity of fright and intense emotions seems to
be the sequels of an addiction to passionate emotional responses. Anger, fear, hate, anxiety, and thrill:
they are all emotions and feelings that are brought forward by violent media. This addiction recalls our
own fears about the unknown, about our doubts and questions about life and death. Horror films help
us understand death and our personal relationship with it, and sometimes they bring us closer to come
to terms with it. By watching horror movies and shows, the individual experiments with the certainty
of death in a form that is not far from grotesque and unhealthy, while still opening his mind and soul
to a reality that awaits all of us. And maybe when the time comes and we need to face it, we will
understand that those movies we saw or those books we read, filled with fear and horror, are not as
bad as we really

Summer Of 83 Chapter 2 Summary
If you aren t willing to face your demons if you can t find the courage to take on your fear and hurt
and anger you might as well wrap them up with a bow and give them to your children. Because they
will be carrying the same thing...unless you are willing to do the work (Page 46). In chapter 2 summer
of 83 Dickey tells his traumatic rape stories. Dickey demonstrated a great deal of fear and innocence.
At the tender age of ten, R.A. was exposed to very explicit behaviour numerous amounts of time.
Dickey, being a child at the time, was not able to express himself out of fear. The acts were so
traumatic for such an innocent child that it left mental scars causing him to fall into a deep depression.

He demonstrates great attentiveness to the game and builds his confidence by it. When Dickey was in
search of self awareness, he had little to no confidence in his pitches. He relied heavily on his knuckle
ball, but he could not throw it with demand; resulting in him letting up a lot of runs and putting his
career at jeopardy. Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find his self awareness that
he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he did well, he wanted to be
the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that one is only good as their last
inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the conclusion that he needs to learn from
the mistakes he made in previous games rather than dwelling on them. Also, he realized that the fans
play a crucial part in the game, they know how to get in the players head and make them feel for their
mistakes, so having a rock hard confidence is key, not only for the fans, but for big games like the
playoffs as well. Dickey s new found confidence is what put him on the map, winning him several
accolades and a big contract. Having a short term memory and a bulletproof confidence is what
separates a minor leaguer from a Major League

Research Paper On Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is an American holiday that celebrate the Pilgrim s successful harvest. The Pilgrims
were thankful that they had survived in the New World. At the first Thanksgiving feast, people ate
lobster, seal, swan, and deer meat. In modern times, we serve turkey dinners, have family gatherings,
and watch football games. Many also donate food to neighbors who don t have enough two eat.
Thanksgiving is an American which is widely celebrated.
The holiday Thanksgiving has a long history to where it got today. The Pilgrims left England in
September 1620 on a ship called the Mayflower. They arrived on Massachusetts Bay to established
their village at Plymouth. Mayflower s passengers suffered a lot during the winter only half lived to

Antisemitism In The Holocaust
In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to
continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep
reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide
domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to
lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the
subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose
not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the
reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience
interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism
is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on
religion, but on the theory that Jews are an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment
period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust
of the 20th century.
The problem of how to tell the survivor s story through narrative raises the question of how can you
tell the story of a survivor whose people have been oppressed throughout history, and are still
oppressed to this date? A more abstract antithesis can be how to tell the victims

The two stage breast reconstruction process is also referred to as delayed immediate breast

The Resistance to Change
As a person one might find that we follow a specific routine on the day to day basis. Sudden changes
to these routines feels weird and out of place. In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily based in a
fictional town called Jefferson taking place during the twentieth century. The time period is indeed an
important factor because southern tradition was above all of the highest importance. This short story
gives the audience details of life during that time in which they followed the values of southern
tradition and the importance to never stray away from those traditions. The context of the story is
laced with subliminal messages of humanities resistance to change. In Faulkner s A Rose For Emily

Which gives us the narrator s opinion on the subject of change, which is disapproval.
In A Rose For Emily the narrator uses the rose as a symbol of resistance to change. Having been
mentioned in both the title and in the bed next to the body of Homer. Symbolizing the romance of
southern tradition (Kurtz 40). When a person receives the rose it is tradition to place it in the pages of
a book preserving its memory (Kurtz 30). Homer Barron is himself A Rose For Emily and symbolizes
southern tradition. By murdering Homer in the psychotic fashion detailed in the story she has
preserved his memory for herself. His decaying body is symbolic for the rose left in the pages of the
book (Kurtz 40). Like the Rose, Emily s watch which is usually connected to a chain in her pocket is
symbolic. Having been placed in her pocket the loud ticking is a constant reminder of how change
annoys Emily. The fact that the Keys 4 watch is not visible where she can watch time fly is an
example of Emily s pathetic attempt to hide the passing of time and control change (Schwab 215).
Emily can be compared to Queen Victoria known to adapt to traditional values and feared for straying
away from those values (Dilworth 255). This comparison is the enhancement of Emily s fear of
change because the queen herself was disgusted with the very idea of change. Prince Albert a
foreigner was the unpopular husband of Queen Victoria because of his ethnicity. In this comparison

How new members of the SLT are perceived by employees is vitally important in order to maintain
engagement of staff and commitment to organisational goals.
A further internal driver of change is a need to decrease costs and increase consistency and efficiency,
which is the aim of the centralisation of some support functions from E.ON UK to Berlin where E.ON
headquarters are based. This has resulted in a number of redundancies and the re education of hiring
managers across the UK business to understand the changes.
Approaches to change
A useful model when looking at different approaches to change is Tannenbaum and Schmidt s (1958,
cited in Leatherbarrow et al, 2010, p414) Continuum of Leadership. This model explains a scale of
various levels of delegated freedom and the subsequent effect on the employees. It details telling
where the manager decides and announces the decision, selling where the manager decides and then
sells the decision to the group, consulting where the manager presents the problem and asks for
suggestions before making a decision, and finally joining where staff are involved in all stages of the
decision making process. The model argues that joining is the key to implementing change
successfully as when employees are part of the change they are more likely to engage with it in a
positive way. At E.ON the change

Why We deserve an A
I put a lot of work on the 7th Grade Footprints project. I spent four class periods ( 4 hours) completing

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Definition Of Success
S for Success
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded (____) .
This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson captures his paradigm of success. People strive to achieve
success and create goals to obtain it; however, a single minded interpretation of success leads to
missing out on opportunities. The presence of challenges provides the opportunity for success and
success comes with the determination to overcome the challenges.
Early in the fifteenth century, the word success first appeared. Developing from Latin word successus
, it was first defined as the fortune (good or bad) befalling anyone in a particular situation . In the mid
1600 s, the definition of success a prosperous achievement of something attempted was altered and
fits the current use of the word. Appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1978, the latest entry
of the definition of success is defined as an instance of an achievement ( Success ). The broadness of

Q: X.805 security architecture, how it compares with the X.800 network security access architecture
A: X.805 architecture was developed by the Telecommunications standardization sector of the
International Telecommunications Union X.805 (ITU T X.805) on October 2003 to provide end to end
transmission of data from one network to another.
The Security architecture logically separates complicated arrangement of end to end system s security
related features into discrete architectural components. This discretion allows a certain systematic way
to deal with end to end security that can be utilized for planning of new security solutions and for
accessing the security of the current networks. The security architecture gives a complete, top down,
end to end point of view of system security and can be connected to network components,
administrations, and applications keeping in mind the end goal to distinguish, anticipate, and correct
security vulnerabilities.
There are various threats that should be taken into consideration since these threats are likely to

Civil Disobedience
Henry Thoreau wrote an essay about it in the 19th century. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached it in the

As Christians, the dilemma is to follow the precepts of government to the letter and violate the
commandments of God, or remain faithful to God, and become an enemy of the government. Martin

Being a strong man of God, there is no doubt that King saw how his disobedience to the law was in
direct conflict with the word of God.
Submit yourselves for the Lord s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as
the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to
commend those who do right. For it is God s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant
talk of foolish men .
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is
good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men .
So, Dr. King chose to subscribe to and to witness about the commandment to love your neighbor as
thy self. In keeping with this commandment, he was on the wrong side of laws that were meant to
keep a portion of God s creations as less than rest of the community. But he was also keeping with the
commandment of God.
The Old Testament has various examples of men of God practicing civil disobedience. When
Nebuchadnezzar built huge idols and demanded that every one worship them whenever music played,
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship anything or anyone other than God himself.
Nebuchadnezzar made it clear that they would be tossed into the fiery furnace. They refused, were put
into the furnace, and delivered by God .
King Darius made a decree that there would no praying in his

Porn and Censorship
Pornography and Censorship
Should the government be allowed to legitimately prohibit citizens from publishing or viewing
pornography, or would this be an unjustified violation of basic freedoms?
Traditionally, liberals defended the freedom of consenting adults to publish and consume pornography
in private from moral and religious conservatives who wanted pornography banned for its obscenity,
its corrupting impact on consumers and its corrosive effect on traditional family and religious values.
But, in more recent times, the pornography debate has taken on a somewhat new and surprising shape.
Some feminists have found themselves allied with their traditional conservative foes in calling on the
state to regulate or prohibit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other sexually explicit representations depict acts of violent coercion: people being bound, whipped,
beaten, tortured, penetrated by objects, mutilated, raped and even killed. Some sexually explicit
material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts people
(most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with others, or
engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually explicit material
involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on.
On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count as
pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right. Anatomy
textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for example but are
rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary condition for material
to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something needs to be added to the
simple definition. What else might be required?
Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is
primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the
problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this

How Does Joseph Conrad Dehumanize
A white man named Marlow travels to the Congo during the time of The Scramble for Africa. He
describes what he sees and his perception of Africans. He describes their appearance and actions. They
are characterized as savages and are not seen as part of the human race. Joseph Conrad, the author of
Heart Of Darkness is denounced for his racist remarks and dehumanizing aspect throughout this story.
Although Conrad makes racist statements, it is relevant to the time period in which the story took
place in. During this time period, the Belgians were imperializing Africa and taking its riches
resources. However, the Africans were seen as slaves due to the fact that they were subjugated. The
problem with this is that this one image of Africa in history

Biography of Sylvia Plath
As one of the most multitalented writers of the twentieth century, Sylvia Plath was highly esteemed by
fans and fellow writers alike. Sylvia Plath s parents, Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, had met when
Aurelia became Otto s student at Boston University. Otto was a biology professor with an infatuation
with bees; he had even published a book titled Bumblebees and their ways. Otto and Aurelia married
in January of 1932, and by October of the same year Aurelia gave birth in Jamaica Plain,
Massachusetts to a daughter, Sylvia.
Sylvia spent her childhood in Winthrop, but after Plath s father died of diabetes, her mother moved her
and her brother, Warren, to Wellesley, Massachusetts which was closer to Plath s grandmother. Aurelia

During this time Plath had begun to search for lodging in London, she was working with the BBC
Plat found an apartment in London fairly quickly. Plath took the children with her to London, where
she balanced her career with her family. Plath would work on her Ariel poems before the children
would wake up in the morning. She continued to suffer from sickness, and during the day she would
have to deal with freezing temperatures, and nonfunctional electricity and heating. On top of no heat
and power, Plath had to wait for a telephone that never got installed (Ames 211 215).
Plath s only book, The Bell Jar, revolves around Esther Greenwood, a typical teenage girl aspiring to
be an English teacher. The plot, however, is atypical; instead of Greenwood coming of age with
normal, positive scenarios, Greenwood descends into madness and graduates not from college, but
from a mental institution. Greenwood reactions to daily life differ from normal girls her age. She
becomes obsessed with oddities like pickled fetuses, dead bodies, and the execution of the
Rosenburgs.
Greenwood scoffs at the notion of no premarital sex, viewing it as hypocritical of boys being able to
sleep around while girls are to remain virgins until marriage. This option is due in part by Buddy,
Greenwood s boyfriend, having sex with a coworker repeatedly over the summer while still dating
Greenwood.

Lower Body Adaptations For Power Lifting ( Squats )
Lower Body Adaptations to Power Lifting (Squats) Power is arguably the most important attribute for
an athlete. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic
sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that
function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power
means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for
power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power
training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to
reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and
velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to
produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same
amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that
athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because
gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as
well. It is important to focus your training on the muscle groups and movements that are most alike
the type of sport you are playing. In most cases, the core and lower body

The Effects Of Internet On The Internet
Negative Effects of the Internet Over time, the Internet is one of the best inventions and source to get
knowledge about any desired aspect. Using the Internet has become a necessary, daily routine. The
Internet has allowed people to stay in contact with others, be updated with the latest things happening
in the world, and get knowledge of anything we want within seconds. However, the Internet is not just
benefiting people but also harming people. The overuse of Internet has brought many negative effects
upon people. In the essays Isolated by the Internet , by Clifford Stoll, The Flight from Conversation ,
by Sherry Turkle, and Addicted to Technology by Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan, the authors share the
common perspective that over using the Internet negatively effects individuals. In their opinions the
use of Internet has negatively affected people mentally, socially, and has made them addicted to the
Internet. These effects brought concerns such as isolation, depression, addiction, loneliness, stress,
weak social ties, anonymity, and altering identities. Personally, I agree with the authors opinion of the
use of Internet and its mental, social, and addictive effects towards people. Although, the Internet is
sufficient to an individual there are many downs that have become serious issues in society today.
Even though the Internet can bring happiness to an individual, the overuse of the Internet has mentally
effects people by depression, stress, loneliness, and anxiety.

Innovation And The Global Economy
Innovation can be expressed as the application of new ideas to the processes and products and all the
productive activities of an entity that can result to increased productivity and value. The new idea that
alters how products and services are offered has the potential of bringing benefit to all the stakeholders
within an enterprise. It is erroneous to assert that there is a correlation between the rising level of
unemployment in the global economy with innovation and technology. A single gadget that can
perform work that can be done by a group of individuals, but the benefit of innovation far outweighs
the few changes in operations that lead to reemployment and loss of jobs (Andersen 160). In a global
economy innovation has been a key factor that enabled companies to maintain their competitive edge,
increase and improve production and operation processes and generate adequate profits to remain in
business. Scholarly study and historical analysis have succinctly revealed that there is no connection
between innovation and unemployment (Barro 105). Innovation plays a big role in increasing
productivity and in the longterm it creates wealth. In economic, this wealth can be reallocated to other
sectors and firms to generate demand for labor for job seekers. It is imperative to recognize that the
savings that crop up through the application of new technology flows back to the economy directly or
indirectly, helping generate more opportunities. Innovation enables firms to lower

September 11 Attacks and World Trade Center
Watching the movie 102 minutes for the second time opened my eyes to the tragedy of 9/11 more than
it did the first time. Being only six years old at the time of the incident, I didn t truly understand the
magnitude of the disaster until years later. The quality of the movie made it very clear to me just how
painful being around the World Trade Center buildings during the attack was, not only for the people
in the buildings that were hit, but for the people around as well. The feeling of helplessness that the
bystanders must have felt in addition to the feeling of fear must have been unbearable. Seeing the
footage of the attack in such clear video made it feel as though it was like a
Hollywood movie rather than a real traumatic event ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second I think that people weren t necessarily sure that what they saw was a real event. Sure, it clearly
happened, but the events seemed fictional because of their magnitude. I know that even though I saw
footage of the attacks, it still seems surreal. The magnitude of the attack makes it seem like something
that no one would expect to actually happen to us. Overall I think that those who did not turn off their
cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about the attacks or ever forget
them with this much visual coverage of it.
I think that the events of 9/11 made a huge impact on those around that survived. In my opinion, I
think that I would have felt so unbearable helpless in a situation like this. I have an altruistic sense of
being so not being able to help those around me makes me feel like I failed my life s goal of helping
others even though I feel that I might be in danger.
102 Minutes differs from other documentations because it is a mix of many different people s
perspectives and real experiences. It shows the true, raw emotions of the attacks rather than just
demonstrating the factual event. I think that 102 Minutes was more effective that other movies made
about 9/11 because it showed everyone the real events, not Hollywood altered, not hiding and bias, it
showed the real hurt that not only New York, but the country

A Neutral America in the War in the Film Casablanca
In the film, Casablanca , it showed us that America was neutral in the war as Rick said, I stick my
neck out for nobody. Rick is portrayed as America, although he seemed as if he was neutral he started
to show that he was caving in for the underdog, just as America did when we started to get involved in
the War. During the film when the Germans come into Rick s café, Rick shows that he is aware of
what is going on in the War, just as we Americans knew about all the concentration camps. Also, when
someone offered to buy Sam s contract from Rick, Rick said I don t buy or sell human beings.
Casablanca shows that America is aware of what is going on and that we are above all of it.
Casablanca would be considered propaganda because when people wanted to flee the country they
were in they wanted to go to America. The people who wanted to flee to America thought of America
as the safe country. Casablanca portrayed America to be as the to go to country, the safest place to be
during the War. Everyone tried getting their passports to go to America, they bought all of their
passports from the black market just to try and get to America. The people wanted a better life and to
be accepted, also they would be safe from the Germans.
The film makes the viewer feel patriotic because we should all feel proud, with all of the bad things
happening during the war people wanted to go to America. Out of the countries they could have fled to
they picked America. The viewers should also

How Did Castles Change In England Between 1066 And 1500
Explain why castles changed in England between 1066 and 1500
Castles were extremely important during 1066 1500 and they changed overtime to get more
protection. A castle is a fortification that was used in the middle ages to protect territory against an
invasion. They were important during these times because many kings and lords wanted to show off
how wealthy they are and they used them as bases, controlling their land and people from a higher
point.
The first stage of the castle development is the motte and bailey castles. The motte is a hill or a mound
with a flat surfaced top and it is the hardest point to attack. Whereas the bailey is inside the wells were
people lived and the cops were grown. The King and lords who built castles used them as bases from
which they could control their land and people, furthermore it also protected them from wars and
showed people how powerful and rich they were. Examples of motte and bailey castles are Windsor

The wooden towers of a motte and bailey castle were removed and replaced with stone, because the
towers were hollow, it was called a shell keep. Castles with a shell keep were better than the early
Norman motte and bailey castles because it was an expensive way of strengthening the motte, the
fragile wooden fence around the motte was replaced with a stone wall. The castle engineers during the
Norman period of time did not trust the motte to support the enormous weight of a stone keep, but the
a common solution to that problem was to replace the wooden stakes enclosing the castle with a stone
wall then building wooden buildings backing onto the inside of the wall. This construction was great
because it meant that the walls could be thinner and lighter. The shell keep castles were less popular
and were relatively short lived, the style stopped being popular very quickly. Castles like York castle

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan. The
Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics. Aztec
civilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under Hernando Cortés
in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited form of writing that
consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs
were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded history has been related to the
religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was dominated by the Spaniards,
religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of what happened to the Aztecs,
religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The Aztec empire stretched throughout
large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native empires that was created during its
time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area. According to their pictorial histories the
Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico from a place in the north called Aztlan
(Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico during a time of low population and

Polygamy in the United States
Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a
controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions
are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist
families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main
characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing
because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband
wife dynamics. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media
accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union,
requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of
the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union
exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist
marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns,
ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships.

A New Concept
IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke
pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those working
in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However, there have
been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty five years (Lee, et al., 1996):
The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency on artificial products
(building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy density (open plan
offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation techniques (air tight
buildings, re circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific evidence has indicated
that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and
most industrialized cities. The US s Toxic Substances Strategy Committee stated that the majority of
cancers (80 90%) are triggered by exposure to substances in the environment (Landrigan et al., 2002).
According to a 5 year study carried out by the US Environmental Protection Agency (Greenfield,
1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds, some linked with cancer and birth defects, were
200 500 times higher inside than outdoors. It is necessary to note that these figures are based on US
values and there is a need to exhibit caution in applying them directly to the UK in

Daily Life In Native Americans
For Native Americans, life prior to contact with the Europeans would in many ways starkly contrast
what would become of their societies after European influence. While one of the most apparent
features of Native American societies included their great diversity, daily life for the Native Americans
had some common key elements. For one, subsistence practices to feed their tribes must have made up
most of their days, because in Native American societies it is stated in the book that, there were no
beggars among them . According to Khan Academy, in 5000 BC, the domestication of corn (maize)
would spur the development of agriculture, which would become a key feature needed for settled
civilizations. This would change daily lives of Natives from a reliance on hunting and gathering to a
reliance more on agricultural practices. Depending on the location of the society, daily life contrasted.
Natives adapted to their environment and their methods of subsistence adapted to it as well (fishing,
hunting, gathering, agricultural practices). For example, in more arid areas, Natives survived by
hunting bison and following herds of animals. Pueblo people in the Southwest adapted by creating
irrigation systems to provide water for their agriculture. Overall, it was the men that spent their daily
lives hunting and fishing. Some major crops included maize (corn), squash, and beans. Another key
element of Native American life included religious practices. Their daily lives would ve consisted

Examples Of Self-Sacrifice In Invictus
What is self sacrifice?

Moving across the snowy valleys, he moves onward. Stopping, glancing, horse hee ing and hawing.
He looks back at the glimmer of the village, warm lights reverberate, and he can almost feel them.

Christmas cheer, christian fear, god drawing near.

He descends and ties his steed to a frozen pine. And he collapses, knees penetrate the newly run path,
bare hands stab into the frozen soil below.

As Henley exhibits in Invictus, to be master of your fate, to be the captain of your soul, that is the
loftiest of sacrifices. Not because of the result, but because of the struggle, the obstacles in the path to
overcome.
!
It is the obstacle that is the way. It is that which is in sight, that which captures our psyche, that which
holds us hostage physically and mentally, that we must overcome.
!
To move above the self, to grant your life, not for a cause or individual, or collective. Not to grant it
on a silver platter, ready to be divided and subtracted, but to grant it by continuing.
The greatest sacrifice belongs to the housewife who attempts suicide and survives and raises her
children.
The girl who stares into the abyss, sees it staring back into her, and returns scathed but intact. The
greatest sacrifice belongs to the boy, who despite all of his being telling him to join a gang and fight
for his colours, moves forward.
It is true self sacrifice, to sacrifice not your physical being, but to fight against the mental levers, the
physiological pulleys that control you.

It is the sacrifice of an Inuit elder, not because she lets her self go on an ice flow because she knows
the community can no longer support her, but because she nobly attempts to survive on that ice

Artificial Intelligence Or Ai Is A Science Of Machines
Artificial intelligence or AI is a science of machines. Machines are set up to perform functions that
would require brain power and decision making. These machines have been designed to solve math
problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The basis of the story
is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal with things on an
everyday basis not knowing what the outcome will be. There are also information sensitive creatures
such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores what has been received and
produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the computer to provide the
information. There has always been a comparison between human minds and computers, but this has
caused a great deal of debate. For instance a computer has to be fed information in order to produce an
outcome. The information has to be fed by a human, but the effectiveness depends on what the
programmer is trying to accomplish. The first article talks two robots names Harry and Henrietta.
Harry is a humanoid form that communicates just a human on any subject. People may believe that he
is really human. But one cannot really say whether he is human or not based on the actions that is
displayed just like a real live person. Harry does not have organs like a human or produced as a
human. Henrietta who is human has been set up with synthetic materials. Everything else about
Henrietta stays the same as if she was

Seidman On Heterosexuality
Heterosexuality is a modern invention means that it is a manmade concept, and it is only recently that
heterosexuality was constituted by defining homosexual desires/identity as the deviant desires/identity,
thereby normalizing the heterosexual desires/identity as the normal and proper sex desire (Seidman,
2003). Heterosexuality has been socially constructed, because what it means to be heterosexual is
different across the time: the contemporary definition of heterosexuality is linked with the identity, but
the nineteenth century definition of heterosexuality indicated a reproductive drive or behavior
(Seidman, 2005; 46). Seidman elaborates that the heterosexuality only became an identity, because

What Role Does Nature Play In Icarus
What is nature s role in the myth of Icarus and Daedalus? In the short story Icarus and Daedalus and
the poem Icarus nature plays a big role when Icarus, Daedalus son, escapes with him by flying but
ends up being careless and dies due to the sun. The short story talks about the story of Icarus and
Daedalus when the poem is about Icarus death and what he must have been thinking while plunging to
his death. In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, and Icarus by Wendy A. Shaffer,
nature exacerbates by having Icarus die in both the short story and poem.
To begin, in In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, Icarus is foolish and nature is not
on his side, and he ends up flying too close to the sun and dies. Daedalus ... Show more content on

Shaffer, the poem uses nature against Icarus. This poem is about what it would be like to be Icarus
while he was taking his last breath. Was Icarus mad? Was he blaming his father? Was he regretful?
These were all questions that were addressed throughout the poem. The mythical poem states,
Watching white feathers flutter upward, curse the wax as a fair weathered friend... Did he rail at the
sun... he laughed, and admitted that even had he known of the many failings of fathers and feathers, he
would have done it anyway (Shaffer 20). This piece of evidence displays the importance of Icarus
flying to close to the sun and dying. It shows how he killed himself along with the nature. The nature
of the myth and poem plays the role of freedom and death. The feathers signify freedom because of
being able to flutter and fly, while the sun signifies death and misfortune. Even though Icarus died, he
died being the adventurous foolish person he is. With nature not on his side, it shows how when you
do not follow rules, you may end up being in serious trouble even if it was fun. If you get too
senseless, you can end up having a big problem. Overall, in the poem Icarus by Wendy A. Shaffer,
nature is the root of Icarus

The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010
If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception
Executive Summary/Abstract
More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of contraceptive
(Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive pill. Even with
new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services, there is still an issue of
women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the next year, and who are not
using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are the largest deterrent for these
women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and services, women will have greater
access to their health.
Where Are the Barriers?
One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all
FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to eliminate
a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide contraception
to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unnecessary
medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these were pelvic
examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams. Notably, there
are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use
(USMEC), which would require

Analysis of the Triumph of Divine Love
The art piece that I selected for my analysis is called The Triumph of Divine Love by Peter Paul
Rubens. The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission by
Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one of eleven
art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic Protestant strife.
Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be displayed at the
Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.)
The scene it portrays shows a woman holding an infant while she stands on a chariot drawn by two
lions. Surrounding her in the air and around her feet are sixteen angels or ... Show more content on

There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps
symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with infant.
This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she is wearing,
and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes being directed at
her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be coming from the sun behind
the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch, or it could be symbolic in that it is
the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The overall piece is not overly dark but the
lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant, her other children, and the flying putti. This
is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are shown in a ring around the woman, some holding
hands. Some have feathered wings; others have either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have
individual faces and expressions and all express happiness. The putti are contorted in different
positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show
movement and action in the piece, especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and
the back of their feet showing to the viewer. He also uses chiaroscuro to give the putti volume shown
by the lighting

An Interpretation of Kant’s Metaphysical Deduction of the...
In what appears to be an important section of the Critique of Pure Reason, when Kant attempts to
show the natural connection between the table of judgment and the table of categories, there is a
cryptic little paragraph:
The same function that gives unity to the different representations in a judgment also gives unity to the
mere synthesis of different representations in an intuition, which, expressed generally, is called the
pure concept of understanding. The same understanding, therefore, and indeed by means of the very
same actions through which it brings the logical form of a judgment into concepts by means of the
analytical unity, also brings a transcendental content into its representations by means of the synthetic
unity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will provisionally think of it as referring to the faculty of understanding and not solely one or more
of the pure concepts of the understanding.11 The main interpretive dilemma of this passage revolves
around the term transcendental content. It may be the case that Kant wants to contrast the
Transcendental Logic s possession of objective content with general logic s lack of content. However
the term could also refer to the fact that the understanding has a transcendental function, and could be
indicating the transcendental nature of the categories. Each of these interpretations will be evaluated in
turn.
The Argument
At its most basic, with all the explanatory clauses stripped away the argument appears thus:22
P1 The Understanding gives unity to different representations in a judgment
P2 The Understanding gives unity to the synthesis of representations in an intuition.
C The Understanding Brings Transcendental Content to its representations.
Need anymore be said?33 The argument is easier to follow, though by no means clear, if we take into
account a missing or explanatory premise:
PE The very actions that brings the logical form of a judgment to concepts also brings a transcendental
content into the understanding s representations.
The most important element of the argument is the fact that it is the very same actions which allow
logical forms to be used in contentful judgments that necessitate the transcendental role of the

Visit At The Beautiful Colosseum
My colleague, Alison Guest, and I were assigned to travel to Rome to visit the beautiful Colosseum
where we needed to record out findings and reveal the history of the structure. We traveled over eight
hours from New York to Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, Italy to learn about the history behind the
Colosseum. Being a new archeologist, it is mandatory to travel all over the world to cites to get a
better understanding of history. Before traveling to Rome, I knew very little of the Colosseum. I knew
it was made of cement and destroyed but I did not know much of the history behind its creation and its
destruction. Little did I know, I would fall in love with the history and the beauty of the ancient
Colosseum. Once we arrived, the first thing you noticed was how big the Colosseum was. I never
imagined how big it could actually be. It covered six acres of land and stood at 157 feet tall. Another
leading archeologist who joined us for the trip had mentioned that took 1.1 million tons of concrete,
stone and bricks to complete the whole structure. (The Colosseum, 2002) The Colosseum was a
massive structure made of stone. It has an elliptical shape, allowing a nice view no matter where you
are seated. The best seat belonged to none other than the emperor who sat in the emperors box. The
entrances and staircase were arranged by marble and iron dividers. This was to keep different social
classes apart. ( The Colosseum:Emblem of Rome , 2011) While taking in the the view, I was amazed

Apologization Of Apology
An apology is an admission that you have done something wrong and regret doing so. It can be
difficult to admit that you have made a mistake. You have to let go of any defensiveness and ego and
refrain from backtracking. No one likes the complicated, defeated feelings that come from being
wrong. Apologizing requires humility and the willingness to place the needs of those you have wrong
above your own. It is imperative that you specify whether you are really sorry for your actions or if
you are only sorry that you were caught. With that said, I once had to apologize for making fun of a
friend s weight without realizing the effect that it would have on her. Before apologizing, I first had to
specifically recount what I was sorry for and acknowledge

The Emergence of Appalachian Stereotypes in 19th Century...
In the world of Appalachia, stereotypes are abundant. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy,
bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent,
strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts.
These ideas of mountain life did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational
nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead
and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. These stories, written and told by outsiders,
served very little purpose to Appalachian natives other than means of humiliation and degradation.
They served mostly to convince readers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These proliferated the idea of unkempt and unruly natured people, pastoral, lazy and at the same time
content to remain in a disparagingly hostile existence. These writers and illustrators were often men
who traveled through the mountain regions and spent time with the people there (McNeil, 59). They
were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have them as guests, and treated to
every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. When James Lane Allen, who was a teacher in
Lexington KY for twelve years, decided to change careers in 1885, traveled to New York to become a
writer, while there he was told to find a definite field and explore it for literacy materials. (McNeal,
59) Deciding to return to Kentucky, Allen began publishing his works in magazines in 1886, his work
primarily focusing on Kentucky as two distinct regions, the civilized Bluegrass Region and the rough
Cumberland Mountains. In James Lane Allen s Through Cumberland Gap on Horseback, the mention
is made to the beauty of the land and that the climate was just the same but that traveling to the
mountain region was not only difficult as they had to take a train then a wagon ride, followed by a trek
on horseback, but a lengthy process. Among the experiences recorded Allen describes the meeting of
several locals and this is where his responsibility for Appalachian

  • 2. Essay on Cannery Row John Steinbeck s Cannery Row shows how people living there dealt with the hardships brought by the Great Depression. Steinbeck set his novel in the 1930 s in Cannery Row, California. The canneries are an integral part of the fish industry and Steinbeck makes the ailing American economy a critical part of everyone s lives in his novel. He show how different characters, with different points of view with the exact same situation. A cannery is the place where food gets canned to be later sent to food stores or markets. Steinbeck shows the people of Cannery Row in their natural, everyday environment and how they react toward different situations and different people. Therefore, there is little in the way of a plot. A couple of key situations do provide indirect characterization and highlight the hardships people suffered during the depression. A corpse is found by Doc and it reminds him of his deceased love, bringing back painful memories This shows the negative side of the world and society s cruelties. Doc is handling of the situation suggests that in Cannery Row, no problem is too major to deal with. Another character was named Hazel because in his family the name was considered lucky with regard to wealth. This underscores how interested everyone was in increasing wealth. Cannery Row also includes realistic details that give readers a good seuse of what daily life was like during the Great Depression. Frog collecting was a profit making activity, with each frog five cents. A nickel was not to be ignored at that time in our history although today one hardly bothers to pick them up off the sidewalk. The first satisfactory car, the Model T, is noted to be a fine vehicle even though it broke down, forcing the driver and passengers to camp out. Today, cars are much more reliable and advanced and have many unnecessary features that the Model T did not have. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The period of time, around which it was written, although it is merely an educated guess, was approximately 500 BCE. ...there are a few archaic words and expressions, some of the greatest scholars have considered it pre Buddhistic, i.e. about 500 BC, (Bhagavad Gita, xxiv). This quote is found in the introduction to the book and further explains that the exact time it was written is undeterminable. Although the words and dialogue are very different than that of the English language to which most are accustomed to, the spiritual messages throughout the entire book are very clear and meaningful. The piece of spiritual knowledge that carries the most weight throughout the Bhagavad Gita is the responsibility of the individual. Before one can accept the responsibility of one s self, one must differentiate between the temporary material body and the eternal spirit soul. Everyone must engage in some sort of activity in this material world, however one s own actions can do one of two things. They may bind you to this material world, or liberate one from it. By living life selflessly and placing full faith and trust in the Supreme Truth, one will be lead to that higher path. The idea of self responsibility is not merely being accountable for your faults, but living according to the wants and needs of a higher power. Simply, the responsibility of the individual is to submit fully to the Supreme truth, and live one s life righteously in the quest for that truth. In trying to explain this Supreme Truth as well as other aspects of life, Krishna appeals to Arjuna in several arguments. Just when Arjuna believes he is headed for the great battle, he falls to his knees in despair, Fall not into degrading weakness, for this becomes a man who is not a man. Throw off this ignoble discouragement, and arise like a fire that burns all before it (Bhagavad Gita, 2). Arjuna is a classic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of High School Students One of the problems teachers in America fear with students is whether they should have a job. Most students, in their junior and senior year of high school, have part time jobs. However, junior year and senior year claims to be the busiest years of a high school student. So particularly, teachers feel as if students shouldn t work too much or they shouldn t work at all being that they may overwork themselves or not stay focus on school. Students should have the benefit of working through high school if it s going to be beneficial later in life or college even if they have to go through some setbacks or lessons learned. Getting a job in high school and having a résumé, it won t actually be too many jobs on the list so in that case, it s not going to exactly qualify as genuine work involvement. Most teens would most likely be working at fast food restaurants, cashiers, babysitters, and etc. There are a few jobs that won t have a high pay, but it ll be enough just for a high school student working. Having time management is very import in today s generation. Being a high school student and having a job at the same time will definitely be beneficial for future references. It teaches them how boost their self esteem, credit hours, and be responsible like an adult. Time management is basically what takes over being a high school student. It s the most important idea in high school. Learning how to manage more than one thing at a time will only be helpful for when the student is about to start their college life. It s like the student is starting ahead of time while they re in high school so they can know what to expect in college. In high school and having a job could be less more difficult than having a job in college. In college, you re going to deal with more credit hours, more duties and have more life experiences. Most people get excited when they get a job. Sometimes, the excitement can become into stress. Being a high school student can overall be stressful alone. • 6. William Wordsworth s Poem And Tintern Abbey In the preface to Lyrical Ballads, William Wordsworth remarks on the subject matter of his and Samuel Taylor Coleridge s joint collection of poetry, Low and rustic life was generally chosen, because in that condition, the essential passions of the heart find a better soil in which they can attain their maturity (295). It seems fitting that Coleridge s Frost at Midnight and Wordsworth s Tintern Abbey both found a home in this book of poetry because both celebrate nature s ability to mold a person spiritually, philosophically, morally, and aesthetically. However, both writers come from very different perspectives. While Wordsworth was raised in the beautiful countryside of the Lake District, Coleridge was brought to London at an early age. Their environments had a profound affect on these writers. At the end of the poems, Wordsworth vows that he will always be a lover of nature, while Coleridge vows to raise his son to experience this same love because he was deprived of this relationship as child. Both of these poems remark on nature s gifts to man, but Frost At Midnight reveals that a childhood apart from nature can have damaging repercussions for the adult, such as feelings of loneliness and hopelessness. The effects of proximity to a natural environment are shown in these poems as their speakers react to being alone. As Wordsworth revisits the banks of the Wye and becomes reacquainted with the sights of his boyhood, he remarks that the wild secluded scene fills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Emotions In Horror Films I personally tend not to be a big fan of horror movies, although in the past I have watched some suspense films as occasional entertainment. Having witnessed difficult situations in real life does not bring me closer toward those movie genres which aim to terrorize audiences. Because of this, I cannot really handpick a particular scene or film which has caused the biggest fright. I will rather explain my point of view regarding this genre and our interactions with it. Most, if not all of us, have experienced intense emotions when watching films in these categories. Modern society, not only in America, but elsewhere, has become addicted to intense emotions and almost immune to the carnage and terror found in many horror films. Long gone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effects of a movie or a TV show stay in our minds long after they have ended. Movies do expand our intelligence and emotions, and make us feel sensations that are not usually experienced in our day to day lives. They also help us understand life and remind us what humans are capable of doing, both in the terms of good actions and evil deeds. But the necessity of fright and intense emotions seems to be the sequels of an addiction to passionate emotional responses. Anger, fear, hate, anxiety, and thrill: they are all emotions and feelings that are brought forward by violent media. This addiction recalls our own fears about the unknown, about our doubts and questions about life and death. Horror films help us understand death and our personal relationship with it, and sometimes they bring us closer to come to terms with it. By watching horror movies and shows, the individual experiments with the certainty of death in a form that is not far from grotesque and unhealthy, while still opening his mind and soul to a reality that awaits all of us. And maybe when the time comes and we need to face it, we will understand that those movies we saw or those books we read, filled with fear and horror, are not as bad as we really ... Dickey demonstrated a great deal of fear and innocence. At the tender age of ten, R.A. was exposed to very explicit behaviour numerous amounts of time. When Dickey was in search of self awareness, he had little to no confidence in his pitches. He relied heavily on his knuckle ball, but he could not throw it with demand; resulting in him letting up a lot of runs and putting his career at jeopardy. Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find his self awareness that he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he did well, he wanted to be the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that one is only good as their last inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the conclusion that he needs to learn from the mistakes he made in previous games rather than dwelling on them. Also, he realized that the fans play a crucial part in the game, they know how to get in the players head and make them feel for their mistakes, so having a rock hard confidence is key, not only for the fans, but for big games like the playoffs as well. Dickey s new found confidence is what put him on the map, winning him several accolades and a big contract. • 11. Antisemitism In The Holocaust In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on religion, but on the theory that Jews are an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust of the 20th century. The problem of how to tell the survivor s story through narrative raises the question of how can you tell the story of a survivor whose people have been oppressed throughout history, and are still oppressed to this date? A more abstract antithesis can be how to tell the victims ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily based in a fictional town called Jefferson taking place during the twentieth century. The time period is indeed an important factor because southern tradition was above all of the highest importance. This short story gives the audience details of life during that time in which they followed the values of southern tradition and the importance to never stray away from those traditions. This model explains a scale of various levels of delegated freedom and the subsequent effect on the employees. It details telling where the manager decides and announces the decision, selling where the manager decides and then sells the decision to the group, consulting where the manager presents the problem and asks for suggestions before making a decision, and finally joining where staff are involved in all stages of the decision making process. Being a strong man of God, there is no doubt that King saw how his disobedience to the law was in direct conflict with the word of God. Submit yourselves for the Lord s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men . Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men . So, Dr. King chose to subscribe to and to witness about the commandment to love your neighbor as thy self. In keeping with this commandment, he was on the wrong side of laws that were meant to keep a portion of God s creations as less than rest of the community. Some sexually explicit material involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as well. It is erroneous to assert that there is a correlation between the rising level of unemployment in the global economy with innovation and technology. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan. The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics. Aztec civilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under Hernando Cortés in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area. According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico during a time of low population and abundant land so it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Polygamy in the United States Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband wife dynamics. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union, requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns, ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships. Literature Review Like many social trends, marriage in the United States has changed over time. Investigation of these trends can aid in the comprehension of the status of marriage in our society, while also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

UPS continues to test and gather information on alternative fuels that would be best for their business and the environment. It is important for businesses such as UPS to stay on top of changes in the external environment so they can make the best decisions for the business. Without the discovery of the shale gas fields UPS would not have the options that they currently do. • 39. A New Concept IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However, there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty five years (Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency on artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy density (open plan offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation techniques (air tight buildings, re circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. The US s Toxic Substances Strategy Committee stated that the majority of cancers (80 90%) are triggered by exposure to substances in the environment (Landrigan et al., 2002). According to a 5 year study carried out by the US Environmental Protection Agency (Greenfield, 1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds, some linked with cancer and birth defects, were 200 500 times higher inside than outdoors. It is necessary to note that these figures are based on US values and there is a need to exhibit caution in applying them directly to the UK in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Daily Life In Native Americans For Native Americans, life prior to contact with the Europeans would in many ways starkly contrast what would become of their societies after European influence. While one of the most apparent features of Native American societies included their great diversity, daily life for the Native Americans had some common key elements. For one, subsistence practices to feed their tribes must have made up most of their days, because in Native American societies it is stated in the book that, there were no beggars among them . According to Khan Academy, in 5000 BC, the domestication of corn (maize) would spur the development of agriculture, which would become a key feature needed for settled civilizations. This would change daily lives of Natives from a reliance on hunting and gathering to a reliance more on agricultural practices. Depending on the location of the society, daily life contrasted. Natives adapted to their environment and their methods of subsistence adapted to it as well (fishing, hunting, gathering, agricultural practices). For example, in more arid areas, Natives survived by hunting bison and following herds of animals. Pueblo people in the Southwest adapted by creating irrigation systems to provide water for their agriculture. Overall, it was the men that spent their daily lives hunting and fishing. Some major crops included maize (corn), squash, and beans. Another key element of Native American life included religious practices. Their daily lives would ve consisted ... Machines are set up to perform functions that would require brain power and decision making. These machines have been designed to solve math problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The basis of the story is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal with things on an everyday basis not knowing what the outcome will be. There are also information sensitive creatures such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores what has been received and produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the computer to provide the information. There has always been a comparison between human minds and computers, but this has caused a great deal of debate. For instance a computer has to be fed information in order to produce an outcome. The information has to be fed by a human, but the effectiveness depends on what the programmer is trying to accomplish. The first article talks two robots names Harry and Henrietta. Harry is a humanoid form that communicates just a human on any subject. People may believe that he is really human. But one cannot really say whether he is human or not based on the actions that is displayed just like a real live person. Harry does not have organs like a human or produced as a human. Heterosexuality has been socially constructed, because what it means to be heterosexual is different across the time: the contemporary definition of heterosexuality is linked with the identity, but the nineteenth century definition of heterosexuality indicated a reproductive drive or behavior (Seidman, 2005; 46). • 45. What Role Does Nature Play In Icarus What is nature s role in the myth of Icarus and Daedalus? In the short story Icarus and Daedalus and the poem Icarus nature plays a big role when Icarus, Daedalus son, escapes with him by flying but ends up being careless and dies due to the sun. The short story talks about the story of Icarus and Daedalus when the poem is about Icarus death and what he must have been thinking while plunging to his death. In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, and Icarus by Wendy A. Shaffer, nature exacerbates by having Icarus die in both the short story and poem. To begin, in In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, Icarus is foolish and nature is not on his side, and he ends up flying too close to the sun and dies. Daedalus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shaffer, the poem uses nature against Icarus. This poem is about what it would be like to be Icarus while he was taking his last breath. Was Icarus mad? Was he blaming his father? Was he regretful? These were all questions that were addressed throughout the poem. The mythical poem states, Watching white feathers flutter upward, curse the wax as a fair weathered friend... Did he rail at the sun... he laughed, and admitted that even had he known of the many failings of fathers and feathers, he would have done it anyway (Shaffer 20). This piece of evidence displays the importance of Icarus flying to close to the sun and dying. It shows how he killed himself along with the nature. The nature of the myth and poem plays the role of freedom and death. The feathers signify freedom because of being able to flutter and fly, while the sun signifies death and misfortune. Even though Icarus died, he died being the adventurous foolish person he is. With nature not on his side, it shows how when you do not follow rules, you may end up being in serious trouble even if it was fun. If you get too senseless, you can end up having a big problem. The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010 If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception Executive Summary/Abstract More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of contraceptive (Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive pill. Even with new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services, there is still an issue of women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the next year, and who are not using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are the largest deterrent for these women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and services, women will have greater access to their health. Where Are the Barriers? One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to eliminate a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide contraception to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unnecessary medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these were pelvic examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams. Notably, there are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (USMEC), which would require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission by Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one of eleven art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic Protestant strife. Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be displayed at the Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.) The scene it portrays shows a woman holding an infant while she stands on a chariot drawn by two lions. Surrounding her in the air and around her feet are sixteen angels or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with infant. This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she is wearing, and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes being directed at her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be coming from the sun behind the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch, or it could be symbolic in that it is the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The overall piece is not overly dark but the lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant, her other children, and the flying putti. This is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are shown in a ring around the woman, some holding hands. Some have feathered wings; others have either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have individual faces and expressions and all express happiness. The putti are contorted in different positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show movement and action in the piece, especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and the back of their feet showing to the viewer. In what appears to be an important section of the Critique of Pure Reason, when Kant attempts to show the natural connection between the table of judgment and the table of categories, there is a cryptic little paragraph: The same function that gives unity to the different representations in a judgment also gives unity to the mere synthesis of different representations in an intuition, which, expressed generally, is called the pure concept of understanding. The same understanding, therefore, and indeed by means of the very same actions through which it brings the logical form of a judgment into concepts by means of the analytical unity, also brings a transcendental content into its representations by means of the synthetic unity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will provisionally think of it as referring to the faculty of understanding and not solely one or more of the pure concepts of the understanding.11 The main interpretive dilemma of this passage revolves around the term transcendental content. It may be the case that Kant wants to contrast the Transcendental Logic s possession of objective content with general logic s lack of content. However the term could also refer to the fact that the understanding has a transcendental function, and could be indicating the transcendental nature of the categories. Each of these interpretations will be evaluated in turn. The Argument At its most basic, with all the explanatory clauses stripped away the argument appears thus:22 P1 The Understanding gives unity to different representations in a judgment P2 The Understanding gives unity to the synthesis of representations in an intuition. C The Understanding Brings Transcendental Content to its representations. Need anymore be said?33 The argument is easier to follow, though by no means clear, if we take into account a missing or explanatory premise: PE The very actions that brings the logical form of a judgment to concepts also brings a transcendental content into the understanding s representations. The most important element of the argument is the fact that it is the very same actions which allow logical forms to be used in contentful judgments that necessitate the transcendental role of the ... Visit At The Beautiful Colosseum My colleague, Alison Guest, and I were assigned to travel to Rome to visit the beautiful Colosseum where we needed to record out findings and reveal the history of the structure. We traveled over eight hours from New York to Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, Italy to learn about the history behind the Colosseum. Being a new archeologist, it is mandatory to travel all over the world to cites to get a better understanding of history. Before traveling to Rome, I knew very little of the Colosseum. I never imagined how big it could actually be. It covered six acres of land and stood at 157 feet tall. Another leading archeologist who joined us for the trip had mentioned that took 1.1 million tons of concrete, stone and bricks to complete the whole structure. (The Colosseum, 2002) The Colosseum was a massive structure made of stone. It has an elliptical shape, allowing a nice view no matter where you are seated. The best seat belonged to none other than the emperor who sat in the emperors box. The entrances and staircase were arranged by marble and iron dividers. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy, bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. These ideas of mountain life did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia.
