American Society During The 1940 S
American society in the 1940 s was racially segregated. Public facilities including buses, theaters, and
railroad stations excluded black patrons. Among many other parts of American life, baseball, like most
professional sports, was equally discriminatory against African Americans. The major league teams
only signed white players and denied black men the opportunity to play professionally. Black players
were restricted to their own Negro Leagues. Until one day in 1946, when Branch Rickey, an
innovative Major League Baseball (MLB) executive, chose a black man named Jackie Robinson to
become the first African American man to play professional baseball. Jackie broke the color barrier in
the world of sports and became the most historically significant baseball player ever.
The movie 42, released on April 12, 2013, depicts the life of Jackie Robinson and his endurance of
racial discrimination. It is written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Thomas Tull. The
movie is distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures and is 128 minutes long. The main stars in the movie
were Chadwick Boseman, who played Jackie Robinson, and Harrison Ford, who played the Brooklyn
Dodgers executive, Branch Rickey. Other supporting roles included Nicole Beharie as Jackie s wife,
Rachel, and Andre Holland as Wendell Smith, a reporter and Jackie s supporter. Other actors include
Christopher Meloni, Lucas Black, Ryan Merriman, Hamish Linklater, and Alan Tudyk. The movie has
a PG 13 rating

This speed makes everything possible updated pricing, the most relevant designs to customer desires,
re ordering or stocking the store, and more. Salespeople at the stores use PDAs to send customer
feedback directly to headquarters multiple times a day; their PDAs show how items rank by sales
(Investile). They try to talk with the customers and find out what they like or do not like about a
product, and track the items that are tried on but left in fitting rooms. They also have a Point of Sale
system which sends record of products that are sold or returned also directly to the headquarters
(Strategic). This data is helpful not only in assessing which products are good and bad, but also what
to re order or mark up, how many clothes they need to be shipped in the next batch, and take note of
the type of clothes that the store in that particular geographic area sell best to ensure they are sent the
clothes that will sell best in that location. Each store manager has weekly conversations with store
managers and market specialists. The store managers also send all of their collected information
multiple times a day to be used for future designing and pricing, but they are empowered to do the
ordering themselves (Zhelyazkov); this empowerment makes for more invested managers who are
happier and care more about the success of the company. Clearly Zara makes it a top priority for their
customers to be heard as soon as

My Views On Spiritual Activism Essay
As an activist, I am seeking to build a better world. A world for all people and all other forms of life. I
want to build a world where all life is respected and where suffering due to oppression is eradicated.
However, I have learned that I cannot build that world if I am not internalizing these ideas. As an
activist, I must be vigilant in the ways in which I interact with the people around me. Engaging in a
spiritual practice offered a unique insight into spiritual activism. I heard parts of myself for the very
first time and gained insight to where I am on my spiritual journey. Furthermore, I was able to connect
this new knowledge with my everyday life and work to better myself. I was fortunate enough to have
an experience within this project that allowed me to enact change within myself and another
individual. This experience was not only transformative, but vital to my growth and has inspired me to
go forward within this work. Learning about spiritual activism firsthand has shaped my views on
enacting change within my own community. Aside from an overwhelming feeling of pride within this
work, I created a newfound relationship with myself that I will continue to nurture. Through mirror
scrying I became more aware of myself, my place in my community, and the ways in which spiritual
activism is beneficial in my pursuit to build a better world.
The practice of mirror scrying is a form of divination with various roots including mention in Hebrew

Edward Pierce Quotes
An Untroubled Man with a Troubled Mind The most differentiating factor between humans and other
creatures on earth is humanity s insatiable desires and emotions that defy all evolutionary logic. These
desires have always been seen throughout society, including the criminal class. The Great Train
Robbery s anti hero, Edward Pierce, displays these very traits as those which push him to commit the
greatest crime of his time. However, Pierce has a more unique motive. Though it is not evident at first,
The Great Train Robbery conveys Edward Pierce as a man driven not by greed or a desire for fame,
but by an extreme sense of selfishness and pride. Crichton eliminates any thought of Greed motivating
his anti hero by informing us of the money he already has and even by referring to him as a putter up,
(9) that must have an ulterior motive other than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, he has little regard for the lives and feelings of others. This is first prominent after the death
of Clean Willy, which Peirce seems to have no remorse for. He also refers to those he manipulated
with with insults such as syphilitic fool, and elderly nincompoop. (353). He further provokes the court
by bragging how he met with Barlow just six days before the trial and did not mention it simply
because [He] was not asked. (353) The most apparent moment showing his pride is when he learns of
difficult complications for his plan. Despite the extra risk, Pierce s pride forces him to insist the
robbery will [still] be done (258) the next day, despite the risk. These behaviors reveal Pierce to be an
undoubtedly prideful man. This self worth is the primary motivation for Edward Pierce s crime.
Edward Pierce is a peculiar and puzzling man. And though he does not have conventional reasoning
for his acts. His self esteem and pride drove him to pull off one of the greatest heists the world has

African school were segregated just as well as the American culture in the past. The apartheid was a
system of racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa between 1948 and 1991. South
Africans were broken down into one of four racial groups based on appearance, known ancestry,
socioeconomic status, and cultural lifestyle: Black, White, Colored and Indian. Places of residence and
educational facilities were determined by racial classification. America had dealt with these same
issues in the mid 1800 s Southern Blacks wanted public schools for their children but they did not
demand racially integrated schools. Legal segregation of schools did not come to an end until the U.S.
Supreme Court made the decision after Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
Women seem to take be more successful in both countries as well. Word Press states: Although
African Americans have made great progress in the past 30 years in their quest for equality, a
significant gender gap in educational achievement remains. Black females have made much greater
progress in academic attainment when compared to black males. Several statistics illustrate this fact.
For example, in 2006 81% of black females graduated high school compared to 72% of black males.
Whereas here in America the averages of male and female university participants were pegged at a 43

Introduction
Business ethics has developed since the 1960s in the United States. Ethical dilemmas have changed
according to the economic environment. During the 2000s, financial failures happened more
frequently because of unprecedented economic growth. Nowadays, ethical dilemmas such as financial
mismanagement, international corruption, and companies promotional purpose are the main reasons
that some high profile companies such as Enron and Lehman Brothers collapsed. Due to the allure of
huge benefits, management is facing bigger ethical challenges than ever before when making business
decisions. Over the last two decades, business ethics has been troubled by a lack of direction and has
become entangled in its own logic (Donaldson, Dunfee, 1994, p.1). Business ethics as self regulation
helps us to distinguish between two things. What exactly we think firms ethical obligations are, above
and beyond complying with laws, and what it would be favorable for them to choose to do when they
are not obliged to do so (Norman, 2011, p.1). When fraud happens, companies collapse more rapidly
than its growth. Collapse resulting from the fraud not only destroys the companies, but also may
results the shareholders investments impossible to recover. Many stakeholders will also suffer from

pay particular attention to the application of the psychoanalytic theory to my life in its entirety.
Specifically addressing my thoughts, emotions and feelings in certain situations and the way in which
my upbringing has shaped my personality.
What is personality?
Personality refers to an individual s unique set of consistent behavioural traits (Weiten, 2016, p. 334).
Personality can also be used to describe why people act diverse in parallel situations. The concept of
personality is used to define the consistency and distinctiveness of a person s behavior (Weiten, 2016).
Who is Sigmund Freud?
Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 into a Jewish home in Vienna (Weiten, 2016). He became a
physician and specialised in neurology, eventually dedicating himself to the treatment of mental
disorders, using a procedure he developed himself known as Psychoanalysis (Weiten, 2016). Freud

Copyright Laws And How They Have Affected Society. Copyright
Copyright Laws and How They Have Affected Society
Copyright laws have been in place for over two hundred years. They are meant to protect from the
unauthorized and unlawful use of ideas and media under law, and protect the artist s integrity. The
types of media protected ranges from books to movies, from TV to picture art. In it s own way,
copyright laws have affected society and how media is distributed across the world.
Copyright Laws
The current copyright laws we use have been in place since 1976, when the Copyright act was put in
place. (Copyright law, 2017) This act was meant to reform the copyright laws into a easier to
understand format, and a easier use by people. The laws protect ideas and media from unauthorized

Copyright of Movies, Films and Television
All audiovisual works are protected under section 101 of the US copyright code. This prevents the
copying, distribution of, or plagiarism of copyrighted visual works. Most of these infringements
occurs when someone sneaks some kind of recording device into a theater and records it there. Then
they either put it up on the internet for free, or sell it for a cheaper price than you would get a ticket at
the movies. Movies are, however, protected under the fair use law. Section 107 allows audiovisual
works to be used in a non commercial environment, such as a educational institution. For instance, if a
teacher wants to show a movie about volcanos to his class, he can, as long as the movie was lawfully
obtained by the teacher or the school administration. (Cameron, 2017) These rules all relatively apply
to television as well. The thieves record the airing of a show, and then post it somewhere on the
internet. The thieves have also been known to transcribe the script of a show as it airs, and then post
this script on the internet. Most of these are intentional infringement and can cost you a lot of money

Poverty and Homelessness in the United States Essay
Poverty and Homelessness in the United States Poverty in America is a subject that though everybody
recognizes is existent, most do not pay attention to very often. In 2010 the poverty line for a family of
four was $22,314.00 and 15.1% of Americans were living off of less than that (Tavernise, 2011).
While 15.1% is a high number to begin with, the truth is that many more people are living on the
verge of homelessness. Countless families are split up every night with children going to a friend s
house or an extended family member s house to ensure that everyone has somewhere to sleep. These
people are called the hidden homeless by the Charlotte Observer (Whitesides, 2011). Even more
people are either living in tent cities or in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While reading about homelessness through the media, one must be sure to realize that even the articles
written include discourses and also that they omit details in order to keep the attention of the readers.
In Seattle the program that is to allow people living in cars to spend the night in church parking lots
seems like a great idea that will help out dozens of people. Something to consider though, is the fact
that many people are not willing to open up a safe haven, such as a church, to potentially dangerous.
Even though many people try to go through their days without judging people, it is inevitable to have
discourses towards people. In America people grow up hearing stories about how if you give a
homeless person money that he or she will most likely use it on beer or drugs. These discourses need
to be eliminated in order for the country s problem to be solved. The United States is known as a
country full of opportunities, a place where anyone can succeed but behind that visage is a reality that
is becoming worse and worse as time goes on. While people go throughout their days pretending that
everyone lives a comfortable life in a warm home, the truth is that at any given moment there are
thousands of Americans who are homeless. Problems that have been existent since the beginning of
the United States have contributed to this ever growing problem that is prominent now.

Essay about The Genius that Was Pythagoras
What makes a person considered a genius? All of our opinions are different on what we think a genius
is. For example, Einstein and Mozart were both considered geniuses but Mozart s talent came
naturally where as Einstein had mentors help him along the way. Pythagoras was known as the first
pure mathematician. So was Pythagoras considered a genius? Pythagoras was most well known for
what we know today as the Pythagorean Theorem and also that the sum of all the angles in a triangle
is equal to two right angles. This is my reasoning on why I think Pythagoras was not considered what
we think a genius is. Pythagoras was born around 569 BC on the island of Samos, Greece. When he
was older he went to Crotone and this is where Pythagoras founded ... Show more content on

These are some more things that Pythagoras was credited for: The sum of all the angles on a triangle is
equal to two right angles, constructing figures of a given area and geometrical algebra, finding of
irrational numbers, the five regular solids, and that Earth was a sphere in the middle of the Universe.
So, by the information above you would probably think that Pythagoras was considered a genius. Plus
some of the things he was credited for were very unlikely that he even did them. For example the five
regular solids (Tetrahedron, Cube, Octahedron, Icosahedron, and Dodecahedron) that he was credited
for he only knew how to construct the first 3 above and not the icosahedron and the dodecahedron.
(Douglass) Also his discovery of irrational numbers was highly unlikely due to his philosophy of all
things are numbers and numbers to Pythagoras were the ratio of two whole numbers. So overall , I
think Pythagoras was a very intelligent man. Pythagoras had to be very bright to be the master of the
Pythagorean School and have one of his students be Plato, a famous Greek philosopher. But was he a
genius? I think the Pythagorean Theorem was a genius theory and the Babylonians in Mesopotamia
who did the theory first should be considered geniuses, but not Pythagoras. I think this way mainly
because

There are many people who go to the extreme to survive one more day. The other day I heard of a man

but like first he found shelter, then he had a group to help him. And all of them had hope to living. So
people usually find shelter first in order to survive, but what they do in order to find shelter or to build

they help you survive they can also help you motivate you in order to survive let s say one of them is
injured but there still going cause they want to survive. While in your mind you also want to survive
because you are thinking if he is still walking i am going to keep going. Although all that can help
many people survive one thing most of the people who survive from extreme things is that they all
have hope. Like that dude that got stuck under a rock in the middle of nowhere he had hope that he
was going go survive, and he was going to see his wife and kids again. If you don t have hope well

Mobile And Mobile Essay
When we talk about cell phone or mobile phones we are talking about a portable telephone or device
that can be used to make and receive calls and text messages with another cell phone user provided
they are within a telephone service area. As of its time of production it was considered a great
technology but as time began to change along with people and the environment there was an increase
in demand for more functionalities on the cell phone which led to the development of a new mobile
which we know of today as a smart phone which could handle the demand for more functionalities.
With the release of smart phones came an increase in application and with the availability of social
application on smart phone it became a worldwide phenomenon in quick time due to its usefulness in
almost every sector e.g. business sector, financial sector, entertainment sector and even the educational
sector. This means that seeing student with smartphone device should not come as a surprise to

Secrets And The Collapse Of The Maya Essay
Secrets Locked in Stone
Maya scholars debated for decades over the fate of the Maya. Recent evidence from an unlikely
source, points a sustained drought in the 9th and 10th Centuries.
Stalagmites and Stone Carvings Offer Clues on the Collapse of the Maya Civilization
Circa 900 A.D., the Maya world fell apart. How could an ancient Meso
American civilization flourish for hundreds of years only to fade into the forest? That riddle has
perplexed scholars ever since 19th century explorers
John Stephens and Frederick Catherwood first stumbled upon moldering ruins to discover lost cities,
vine covered temples and an infrastructure worthy of a small kingdom.
Although the full extent of what befell Maya cities like Tikal and Copan, on the Yucatan Peten
Peninsula in present day Mexico and Central
America, remains a mystery. Research points a change in long term weather patterns brought about
their decline. Part of a growing body of evidence, popularized by academics like Jared Diamond that a
prolonged drought preceded by abundant rainfall had turned prosperous Maya city states into desolate
ghost towns.
A Cave Yield s Clues
New studies have shed new light on this phenomenon. According to a paper published in Science
magazine, between 820 and 870 A.D., the Maya received 40 percent less rainfall than in prior decades.
Scientists surmise that the lack of rainfall tore at the social fabric of the Maya civilization. The
findings are based on the research of

As they begin to investigate, they start to realize that the problem is much more than they expected
because their identity and personal information was stolen. Cybercrimes have become a main concern
for the United States. Therefore, cybersecurity should be one of the main concerns of security in this
day and age. With cybercrime, a person can be attacked anytime, any day, and anywhere, where there
is internet access. These attacks affect just about every American in one way or another. Cyber attacks
are generally conducted by foreign countries to hack into United States companies to gain access to
Americans personal information for malicious reasons, disrupt the functionality of the government,
and to impose their agenda against the United States.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the three general types of cybercrime are Cyber attacks

Acrobatics was used in most leisure activities that the Minoan people used to keep themselves

Bull leaping was the most famed and controversial of all Minoan sports, this sport consists of an
athlete who would sprint head long at a charging bull, grab the bulls horns and jump onto its back,
then the athlete would descend of the animal from its behind. Many scholars argue whether bull

Honey was and is still the most famous in Crete as it was the only sweetener.
The food in the Minoan Society shows that the people in Minoan Crete relied on their farming and
crops for most of their resources in food. Also that they had a extreme range of foods in their diet,
which shows that this society was quite prosperous.
Evidence of food in the Ancient Greek era were the Large Pithoi from a storage room in Knossos,
these large containers or pots were used to store food.
The Minoans wore artistically designed and competently made clothing, they wore an assortment of
complex clothing, the garments were sewn together much like the way modern clothes are prepared.
The Minoans sewed skirts and blouses that were shaped to the body of the wearer. Minoan Crete had a
hot climate, so layers of clothes were not needed. The men wore only loincloths, this was small pieces
of fabric wrapped around the waist to cover the genitals which were made from a wide range of
materials, such as, leather, wool, linen and decorated with bright colours and patterns. Many people

Left Wing single party states achieve power as the result of a revolutionary process against tradition.
Does this adequately explain how any one single party state that you have studied acquired power? In
1917, a revolution took place in Russia that overthrew the traditional Tsarist regime and brought a
single party state, the Bolshevik Party, into power. The Bolshevik party harnessed the revolutionary
spirit from the overthrow of the Tsarist regime in order to overthrow the Provisional government and
eventually seize power. There are several reasons that the Bolshevik Party went against tradition
including the failure of the Tsarist regime and the failure of the Provisional ... Show more content on

One of the main reasons that the Bolsheviks gained support in 1917 was due to the fact that Lenin
rejected any compromise with the propertied classes, and insisted that the power should be held by the
proletariat and the peasants, which was the majority of Russia s population. Another reason for the
Bolshevik s growing support was because the Mensheviks and Social Revolutionaries continued to
support the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government had failed to enact land reforms
demanded by the peasantry and had failed to keep the military from falling apart. As previously
mentioned, the Bolsheviks had harnessed the revolutionary mood of the workers and garrison soldiers
in order to successfully go through with the October Revolution (Connor 1). The Petrograd Soviets
and the Red Guards also supported the overthrow of the Provisional Government as they did not feel it
represented their interests. This gave even more support to the Bolsheviks as they promised the
overthrow of the traditional order. Lenin created the Sovnarkom, which would be the new type of
government in Russia, and would replace the Provisional Government (Provisional Government). The
Sovnarkom s initial objectives represented a revolt against tradition. This is because the objectives
included land collectivization, where land is taken from the nobles, church, and tsar and given to the
peasants, and to empower workers to set up factory committees to take control of factories.

6 + 1 Traits Of Writing Analysis
Education Northwest created 6+1 Traits of Writing as a method for teaching and assessing writing.
This model consists of six writing qualities, ideas, voice, organization, conventions, word choice, and
fluency, and one appearance quality, presentation. The main theme and the details of the writing are
presented in the ideas of the piece. The ideas describe how clearly the writer shows his thoughts. The
internal structure of the writing is presented through the organization , which lays out the sequence of
the story, its strength and logic, and the connections in the written material. The writer expresses his
feelings trough the voice . The voice distinguishes the writer as who he is. Through the word choice ,

Too often students think that they cannot write and that is because they do not know what is expected
of them. With proper modeling and guiding, the 6+1 traits of writing helps students develop their
skills. The rubrics aid students in evaluating their own writing and make improvements. These traits,
which should be taught in English classes, can and should be applied in other classes, such as math,
science, and history. For example, in math class students demonstrate sentence fluency when they
explain their reasoning while solving problems. In science class, students practice and use the
convention trait when applying formulas and assigning units of measurements, the same way they use
grammar and punctuation in English classes. Although 6+1 Traits of Writing has seven essential traits,
which should be taught and assessed by English teachers, in my opinion, content area teachers,
included myself, do not have to use all of them concurrently. In Math or Science classes, I can focus
on one or two traits, depending on the information which is being taught during a certain lesson. A
great way to implement and use this model would be writing a research paper with a theme from
history or science in collaboration with the English teachers, whose focus would be teaching the
sentence fluency and conventions. Six plus one traits of writing can be applied in core classes, but
only if it is taught in English Language Arts

Heroism Depicted Throughout The Epic Poem, The Iliad And...
Heroism is shown through the ages in a variety of areas all over the world. One of the greatest
examples of how heroism is depicted within a literary work is in Homer s epic poem, The Iliad.
Although the ideals of heroism are apparent in the poem, it is important to understand how the same
theme can be seen through other works of literature. The Knights Tale, which is one of the greatest
stories that Chaucer s Canterbury Tales has to offer. The Iliad and The Knights Tale are both stories
that contain the ideals of heroism.
In the epic poem, The Iliad, Homer was brilliant in showing the idea of traditional heroism on the
battlefield. There is a clear conviction that comes from Homer in that he directed towards his audience
with the motive of making them understand the true definition of heroism. One of the greatest
examples of how heroism is displayed is the success within the field of battle. Heroism is defined by
the wish and willingness to emerge as a winner in case of militants. Through military conflict heroism
is defined by the urge on the war field as well as the desire to defend and protect one s honor.
However, the complexity that exists within the heroism is what redefines the ideal of heroism by truly
revealing it. Wife, I too have thought upon all this, but with what face should I look upon the Trojans,
men or women, if I shirked battle like a coward? (142). Within this final scene between Hector and his
wife, the heroism of war is truly displayed. Hector

There are various different leadership styles that organizations normally adopts each one of them have
different impact on the organizational commitment on stakeholders. This includes
a) Laissez Faire Leadership
b) Transactional Leadership
c) Transformational Leadership
LAISSEZ FAIRE LEADERSHIP
Laissez faire is the absence of effective leadership (Yukl G, 2010). Laissez faire leaders ignore
problems and follower (Yukl G, 2010) and they do not contribute to the growth of the follower (
(Northouse, 2007). Feedback, rewards and leader involvement are totally absent in this type of
leadership hence reduced organisational commitment.
TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP
A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER is a person who stimulates and inspires followers to achieve
extraordinary outcomes (Robbins, 2007)It has been shown to influence organisational members by
transforming their values and priorities while motivating them to perform beyond their expectations
(Rowold, 2007)Increased levels of job satisfaction reduced turnover intentions are consequences of
transformational leadership. It is all about leadership that creates positive change in the followers

Examples Of Tacit Knowledge As Trauma
Good day, everybody! The topic of this presentation is Tacit Knowledge as Trauma where we would
be discussing about tacit knowledge, experience and assemblages of communication technology.
The focus would be on:
Tacit knowledge in communication technology and how is it a trauma,
Inverse of tacit knowledge in form of;
 trolling,
 fraud,
 noise,
 viruses
How Tacit Knowledge can be transformed into useful knowledge
Slide 2: Tacit Knowledge vs. Explicit Knowledge
Tacit knowledge collects all those things that we know how to do but perhaps do not know how to
explain (at least symbolically). The term tacit knowledge comes to us courtesy of Michael Polyani, a
chemical engineer turned philosopher of science. Tacit knowledge is messy, difficult to study,
regarded as being of negligible epistemic worth.
This concept can be understood in comparison to explicit knowledge, demonstrated in form of Iceberg
Model.
Slide 3: Tacit Knowledge as Trauma
In communication technology, tacit knowledge often becomes a trauma as the available information
cannot be transformed into explicit knowledge easily, for which skilled persons are required that work
on complex processes, such as socialization, externalization, internalization, and combination. Since it
is something which cannot be conveyed easily, its sharing is usually very limited. ... Show more

Serial Killer Characteristics
Serial Killers are a product of their environment rather than result of the genes they were born with.
Parental and peer abuse is the main contributing factor in the shaping of a serial killer. Serial killer
traits can range from physical abuse to bed wetting in the adolescence stage of their lives. During the
adolescence stage the abuse can make more of an impact on the molding of the serial killers
personality. Modern serial killers are a product of their environment; factors such as; physical and
sexual abuse, bad parenting, and poor education made them become the modern physcopathic killers
of their time. In my first heading I talk about serial killers most common traits. These traits include;
wetting the bed, physical abuse, emotional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New studies show that bed wetting can be related to arson and animal cruelty in some way. 57% of
serial killers have been known to wet the bed until and unusually advanced age. Bed wetting is a very
common thing for a child to go through at a young age in my opinion, but when a parent puts too
much negative emphasis on the act it can become social debilitating for the development of the child.
In media the stereo typical serial killer is thought of as this child that is isolated from the other
children in the classroom. What media does not depict it s the causes of the isolation such as; moving
around a lot, malfunctioning parent child relationship, or the child has been put into a foster home at a
young age. Lack of ability to hold a relationship can cause numerous problems later on in adult life
such as; not being able to hold a job, not being able to sustain a long term relationship, having issues
with fitting into the social norm . when not being able to develop healthy relationships with other
companions is can lead to the child and their adult outcome, becoming involved in theft, arson, and
assault. Hostility, aggression, and complete disregard for human rights can be an emotional outcome
due to isolation as a child (Barnard, 10 Most Common Traits of Serial Killers). So in the end whose
fault is it really the parent and the peers or the actual genetics of the child,

Planet of the Apes Essay
Planet of the Apes
When Planet of the Apes opened in theaters, few people knew what to expect. To most, the idea of a
movie with the premise of a planet full of intelligent apes went against everything they had been
taught. The initial attraction was the superb cast, spearheaded by Charlton Heston who portrays
Taylor, an astronaut who crashes onto the planet. Heston was joined by many popular actors and
actress such as, Roddy McDowell as Cornelius, Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Kim Hunter as Zira.
Though the cast may have been the initial draw, the content is what has made the movie Planet of the

To us, having one individual controlling both seems not only preposterous, but also dangerous. The
American mind immediately concludes that a system such as this will lead to stagnation in science,
and close mindedness in religion.
In Planet of the Apes this stagnation does occur. When a young upstart scientist named Cornelius tries
to attack the religiously based view of life in his society he is brought up on charges of heresy.
Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man.
Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with charges
of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view on the
origins of life in the 1800 s, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him.
This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things that
have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity s own shortcomings
more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On one level,
Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another level, the
director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and are therefore
doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the film.

The World Wide Web Is A Better Source For Students...
The world wide web is growing immensely and it is filled with a plethora of information that is easily
accessible to anyone and everyone with an internet capable device. Students today are constantly
glued to technology, whether it is for leisure purposes or school purposes, thus making them
susceptible to reading and gathering accurate as well as false information from the internet. Many
students do not know how to navigate the web effectively or will not check a source s authority when
doing research, and as a result, they gather faulty information. The fact that students can easily access
information on the web when doing research, it is imperative for teachers to teach students how to
properly evaluate websites in order to assure that they are gathering authentic information from
credible sources. There are certain criteria educators and students can use in order to confirm the
authenticity of a website. In this paper, I used ten of Kathy Schrock s criteria to evaluate two websites

King Jr Metaphors
On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist, delivered his renowned speech, I
Have a Dream on the Lincoln Memorial located in Washington to millions of Americans. King relied
on the use of metaphors, imagery, and anaphora to establish pathos; as well as to convey his wish to
live in a country where everyone has equal civil and economic rights no matter their skin color.
King employs many metaphors throughout his speech to disclose emotions that can only be
represented by comparing two things. The most notable example is in the beginning of his speech
where he compares the lack of justice to a check with insufficient funds. By doing this, King makes
his audience acknowledge that the African American population has been deprived of its freedom.
This example correlates with the rest of his speech speaking on how African Americans are treated as
less than human even after being granted their freedom in 1865. To fully understand why he compares
these two things the audience will need to know information regarding the 13th, 14th, and 15th
amendments and how they were supposed to give African American slaves equal rights. This
metaphor makes the audience recognize that African Americans ... Show more content on

  • 2. American Society During The 1940 S American society in the 1940 s was racially segregated. Public facilities including buses, theaters, and railroad stations excluded black patrons. Among many other parts of American life, baseball, like most professional sports, was equally discriminatory against African Americans. The major league teams only signed white players and denied black men the opportunity to play professionally. Black players were restricted to their own Negro Leagues. Until one day in 1946, when Branch Rickey, an innovative Major League Baseball (MLB) executive, chose a black man named Jackie Robinson to become the first African American man to play professional baseball. Jackie broke the color barrier in the world of sports and became the most historically significant baseball player ever. The movie 42, released on April 12, 2013, depicts the life of Jackie Robinson and his endurance of racial discrimination. It is written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Thomas Tull. The movie is distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures and is 128 minutes long. The main stars in the movie were Chadwick Boseman, who played Jackie Robinson, and Harrison Ford, who played the Brooklyn Dodgers executive, Branch Rickey. Other supporting roles included Nicole Beharie as Jackie s wife, Rachel, and Andre Holland as Wendell Smith, a reporter and Jackie s supporter. Other actors include Christopher Meloni, Lucas Black, Ryan Merriman, Hamish Linklater, and Alan Tudyk. The movie has a PG 13 rating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salespeople at the stores use PDAs to send customer feedback directly to headquarters multiple times a day; their PDAs show how items rank by sales (Investile). They try to talk with the customers and find out what they like or do not like about a product, and track the items that are tried on but left in fitting rooms. They also have a Point of Sale system which sends record of products that are sold or returned also directly to the headquarters (Strategic). This data is helpful not only in assessing which products are good and bad, but also what to re order or mark up, how many clothes they need to be shipped in the next batch, and take note of the type of clothes that the store in that particular geographic area sell best to ensure they are sent the clothes that will sell best in that location. Ethics And Professional Responsibilities Applied Ethics and Professional Responsibilities Applied to Baker Tilly China North East Petroleum Holdings Limited Jingyi Zhang Arkansas State University Introduction Business ethics has developed since the 1960s in the United States. Ethical dilemmas have changed according to the economic environment. During the 2000s, financial failures happened more frequently because of unprecedented economic growth. Nowadays, ethical dilemmas such as financial mismanagement, international corruption, and companies promotional purpose are the main reasons that some high profile companies such as Enron and Lehman Brothers collapsed. Due to the allure of huge benefits, management is facing bigger ethical challenges than ever before when making business decisions. Over the last two decades, business ethics has been troubled by a lack of direction and has become entangled in its own logic (Donaldson, Dunfee, 1994, p.1). Business ethics as self regulation helps us to distinguish between two things. What exactly we think firms ethical obligations are, above and beyond complying with laws, and what it would be favorable for them to choose to do when they are not obliged to do so (Norman, 2011, p.1). Something to consider though, is the fact that many people are not willing to open up a safe haven, such as a church, to potentially dangerous. For example, Einstein and Mozart were both considered geniuses but Mozart s talent came naturally where as Einstein had mentors help him along the way. Pythagoras was known as the first pure mathematician. So was Pythagoras considered a genius? Pythagoras was most well known for what we know today as the Pythagorean Theorem and also that the sum of all the angles in a triangle is equal to two right angles. This is my reasoning on why I think Pythagoras was not considered what we think a genius is. Pythagoras was born around 569 BC on the island of Samos, Greece. These are some more things that Pythagoras was credited for: The sum of all the angles on a triangle is equal to two right angles, constructing figures of a given area and geometrical algebra, finding of irrational numbers, the five regular solids, and that Earth was a sphere in the middle of the Universe. So, by the information above you would probably think that Pythagoras was considered a genius. Plus some of the things he was credited for were very unlikely that he even did them. For example the five regular solids (Tetrahedron, Cube, Octahedron, Icosahedron, and Dodecahedron) that he was credited for he only knew how to construct the first 3 above and not the icosahedron and the dodecahedron. (Douglass) Also his discovery of irrational numbers was highly unlikely due to his philosophy of all things are numbers and numbers to Pythagoras were the ratio of two whole numbers. So overall , I think Pythagoras was a very intelligent man. Pythagoras had to be very bright to be the master of the Pythagorean School and have one of his students be Plato, a famous Greek philosopher. But was he a genius? I think the Pythagorean Theorem was a genius theory and the Babylonians in Mesopotamia who did the theory first should be considered geniuses, but not Pythagoras. I think this way mainly because ... Another reason for the Bolshevik s growing support was because the Mensheviks and Social Revolutionaries continued to support the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government had failed to enact land reforms demanded by the peasantry and had failed to keep the military from falling apart. As previously mentioned, the Bolsheviks had harnessed the revolutionary mood of the workers and garrison soldiers in order to successfully go through with the October Revolution (Connor 1). With proper modeling and guiding, the 6+1 traits of writing helps students develop their skills. The rubrics aid students in evaluating their own writing and make improvements. These traits, which should be taught in English classes, can and should be applied in other classes, such as math, science, and history. For example, in math class students demonstrate sentence fluency when they explain their reasoning while solving problems. In science class, students practice and use the convention trait when applying formulas and assigning units of measurements, the same way they use grammar and punctuation in English classes. Although 6+1 Traits of Writing has seven essential traits, which should be taught and assessed by English teachers, in my opinion, content area teachers, included myself, do not have to use all of them concurrently. In Math or Science classes, I can focus on one or two traits, depending on the information which is being taught during a certain lesson. A great way to implement and use this model would be writing a research paper with a theme from history or science in collaboration with the English teachers, whose focus would be teaching the sentence fluency and conventions. • 28. Heroism Depicted Throughout The Epic Poem, The Iliad And... Heroism is shown through the ages in a variety of areas all over the world. One of the greatest examples of how heroism is depicted within a literary work is in Homer s epic poem, The Iliad. Although the ideals of heroism are apparent in the poem, it is important to understand how the same theme can be seen through other works of literature. The Knights Tale, which is one of the greatest stories that Chaucer s Canterbury Tales has to offer. The Iliad and The Knights Tale are both stories that contain the ideals of heroism. In the epic poem, The Iliad, Homer was brilliant in showing the idea of traditional heroism on the battlefield. There is a clear conviction that comes from Homer in that he directed towards his audience with the motive of making them understand the true definition of heroism. One of the greatest examples of how heroism is displayed is the success within the field of battle. Heroism is defined by the wish and willingness to emerge as a winner in case of militants. Through military conflict heroism is defined by the urge on the war field as well as the desire to defend and protect one s honor. However, the complexity that exists within the heroism is what redefines the ideal of heroism by truly revealing it. Wife, I too have thought upon all this, but with what face should I look upon the Trojans, men or women, if I shirked battle like a coward? (142). Within this final scene between Hector and his wife, the heroism of war is truly displayed. Hector ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term tacit knowledge comes to us courtesy of Michael Polyani, a chemical engineer turned philosopher of science. Tacit knowledge is messy, difficult to study, regarded as being of negligible epistemic worth. This concept can be understood in comparison to explicit knowledge, demonstrated in form of Iceberg Model. New studies show that bed wetting can be related to arson and animal cruelty in some way. 57% of serial killers have been known to wet the bed until and unusually advanced age. Bed wetting is a very common thing for a child to go through at a young age in my opinion, but when a parent puts too much negative emphasis on the act it can become social debilitating for the development of the child. In media the stereo typical serial killer is thought of as this child that is isolated from the other children in the classroom. What media does not depict it s the causes of the isolation such as; moving around a lot, malfunctioning parent child relationship, or the child has been put into a foster home at a young age. Lack of ability to hold a relationship can cause numerous problems later on in adult life such as; not being able to hold a job, not being able to sustain a long term relationship, having issues with fitting into the social norm . when not being able to develop healthy relationships with other companions is can lead to the child and their adult outcome, becoming involved in theft, arson, and assault. Hostility, aggression, and complete disregard for human rights can be an emotional outcome due to isolation as a child (Barnard, 10 Most Common Traits of Serial Killers). • 33. Planet of the Apes Essay Planet of the Apes When Planet of the Apes opened in theaters, few people knew what to expect. To most, the idea of a movie with the premise of a planet full of intelligent apes went against everything they had been taught. The initial attraction was the superb cast, spearheaded by Charlton Heston who portrays Taylor, an astronaut who crashes onto the planet. Heston was joined by many popular actors and actress such as, Roddy McDowell as Cornelius, Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Kim Hunter as Zira. Though the cast may have been the initial draw, the content is what has made the movie Planet of the Apes a classic that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come. To us, having one individual controlling both seems not only preposterous, but also dangerous. The American mind immediately concludes that a system such as this will lead to stagnation in science, and close mindedness in religion. In Planet of the Apes this stagnation does occur. When a young upstart scientist named Cornelius tries to attack the religiously based view of life in his society he is brought up on charges of heresy. Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man. Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with charges of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view on the origins of life in the 1800 s, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him. This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things that have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity s own shortcomings more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On one level, Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another level, the director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and are therefore doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the film. Planet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The world wide web is growing immensely and it is filled with a plethora of information that is easily accessible to anyone and everyone with an internet capable device. Students today are constantly glued to technology, whether it is for leisure purposes or school purposes, thus making them susceptible to reading and gathering accurate as well as false information from the internet. Many students do not know how to navigate the web effectively or will not check a source s authority when doing research, and as a result, they gather faulty information. • 37. King Jr Metaphors On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist, delivered his renowned speech, I Have a Dream on the Lincoln Memorial located in Washington to millions of Americans. King relied on the use of metaphors, imagery, and anaphora to establish pathos; as well as to convey his wish to live in a country where everyone has equal civil and economic rights no matter their skin color. King employs many metaphors throughout his speech to disclose emotions that can only be represented by comparing two things. The most notable example is in the beginning of his speech where he compares the lack of justice to a check with insufficient funds. By doing this, King makes his audience acknowledge that the African American population has been deprived of its freedom. This example correlates with the rest of his speech speaking on how African Americans are treated as less than human even after being granted their freedom in 1865. To fully understand why he compares these two things the audience will need to know information regarding the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments and how they were supposed to give African American slaves equal rights. This metaphor makes the audience recognize that African Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
