The definition of ethnocentrism is the belief that one s cultureand way of life are
superior of other groups. This causes judging among different groups and
assumptions that there are inferior groups to your own. The roots of the word are
ethnic and centrism, ethnic means cultural heritage and, centrism means to the
central starting point. Put them together and ethnocentrismbasically refers to judging
other groups from our own cultural point of view. It s true we reject those outside our
group, our customs, our food, our traditions, our music, our religion, our beliefs and
values. We think that our lifestyle is somehow much better than those of other
societies. The questions I found out through my observation of WWU was why do
people do this. I asked some people if they thought they were ethnocentric and the
results showed that most people think that they are not ethnocentric, but are rather

teaching methods, and sometimes resort to dishonesty (5 8). According to a 1990
survey cited by Katie Young in her article, What s So Bad About Standardized
Testing?, nine percent of teachers admitted to cheating to raise test scores.
Furthermore, many teachers unintentionally become angry and frustrated with low

Opera, as with any theatrical production is often indicative of some societal norm
or expectation. However, Opera Buffa, as with any satire generally reaches into the

The romantic period,1735 to 1830, for writers is a dark and confusing time, it is a
time when dark things are made to seem better than they are. Many great literary
works come from this period, but at the price of confusing the population. People
believe that emotions and relationships were not just important, but were the very
currency of life. Three romantic era pieces stand out, The Pit and The Pendulum by
Edgar Allen Poe, Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant and The Devil and Tom

Amir s selfish personality The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini establishes
a theme of selfishness through Amir s eyes through the course of the novel. Amir
was an Afghan boy who was born in Kabul, Afghanistan who lived the majority of
his life behind enemy lines. Amir had been living in a large mansion with his
father Baba, and two family servants Ali and his son Hassan. Throughout the novel,
Amir began to become annoyed at how Baba had almost favored Hassan over his
own son. After a kite flying tournament in downtown Kabul that Hassan and Amir
had participated in, Hassan had begun to track down his kite that had flown away.
Upon finding it, Hassan had found himself cornered in an alleyway with the

California because of how well they work together. Long Beach is the perfect place

From completing the questionnaire I think my core skills of team working and
communication need moderate development. The team roles that best describe me
are: Monitor Evaluator, Team worker and Completer/Finisher (Belbin 1993). If I
know myself as well as I think I do, I think these roles are more in line with my

Global warming is one of the major problems facing the Earth. Our year is divided
up into four seasons: summer, fall, winter, spring. Unless you live at the equator, you

The Market Square Presbyterian Church is a historic institution that attracts
