Global Issues in the Liberal Arts
Research Paper Proposal
Name: _____Shannon Gutierrez_____ Date: __1/11/18_______________
1. What is the general topic you want to learn and write about? The general topic must be
an objective examination of a topic related to one of the four breadth areas and it must
have a global perspective or be of global significance.
Economics of global warming is the general topic for my research paper.
2. Identify which breadth area(s) the topic is related to and explain how the topic is related
to this breadth area (s), or how you can use the perspectives of this particular breadth area
(s) to examine the topic of your research within its global context.
This topic will fall within the science/description and social civic breadth area of liberal
arts. First, Social/Civic because the climate affects the entire world and the >>>> policy
on global warming requires that countries develop relationships to accomplish an overall
objective. Many Activist believe that science has proven global warming to be a real
ecological concern yet many countries and individuals in society choose not to
acknowledge global warming as fact.
The Science/Description breadth area because as mentioned one must believe in the facts
and evidence provided on the topic. Global warming and the study of its effects requires
an understanding of nature and the structure. Technological advances may provide many
solutions to the challenge, however, few countries have the financial means or education
to implement such solutions.
3. What is the purpose of the study? Why have you chosen this particular general topic?
Do you intend to educate or illuminate a particular group about your topic? Do you
intend that this group or person will change it's/his/her thinking or take action because of
your study?
The purpose of this study is to have a deeper understanding of global politics and how the
United States decision to leave the Paris Agreement will financially impact third world
countries.
4. What is your research question? You are not conducting field research (i.e., survey data,
interviews, primary source data). Research in this context means investigating a topic in
depth using credible sources.
Your research question guides what sources you select and read in depth. This is a
specific, clear, concise question you have about the topic that is grounded in facts that
can be discovered in the literature. Remember that the question should be intellectually
challenging and not be one that can be answered with a simple “yes,” “no,” or “maybe.”
Review your question for its clarity and scope. Will the question point you to specific
information on your topic? Will you be able to find enough information on the topic? Is it
so broad that you will get hundreds or thousands of articles on the topic? Could you write
approximately 8-10 pages that illuminate what scholars are writing about ...

Notes from 2014
Many assignments suffered from one or more of three major flaws:
1. The Critical Reflection part was not critical. What many students wrote could be summed
up as "I consume X because I like it", or "it makes me feel good" or "it satisfies a need",
without examining why it makes them feel good, or why they have that need, and then
critically examining those reasons (or considering short vs. long term effects). Very few
discussed the impact of their own consumption on other people.
2. The research part did not show data that extended or complemented the figures or tables
shown in lectures. Many students quoted figures in-text of snapshots in time, e.g. "in 2012 x
% of y were z", rather than examining a trend, difference or relationship by showing a table
or graph. Very few critically examined their sources.
3. Most worryingly, very few students incorporated theoretical material from the course.
Those that did almost exclusively used Maslow and nothing else. This was particularly
disappointing.
Many students listed the ways in which their consumption makes them happy or well. This is
entirely beside the point. Of course some of the things we consume and some of the ways in which
we consume make us happy and/or well. But why do they make us happy or well? More
importantly, what things do we consume make us unhappy or unwell? And if we know that, why do
we still do consume them?
As some students stated, we wouldn't consume things that didn't make us happy and/or well, would
we? But plainly, some of us do, and some people claim that all of us do, at least some of the time.
Almost no-one critically examined whether their superficial motivations and satisfactions were
contributing to real, long-term well-being. Fewer than 10% of the class were willing to even
consider the notion that they might be behaving "irrationally", at least some of the time, and even
fewer explicitly examined the role of marketing and the media in that irrationality. Those that did
usually discussed it in general terms (almost always quoting or paraphrasing Schor) rather than as it
happened in their own life.
It seems that most people did not really understand the theme of BSNS 103:
• Some, or even most, of our seemingly rational consumption behaviour is actually a result of
factors of which we are only dimly aware, if at all. Furthermore, things that give us a little
bit of happiness when we do them may turn out to be not in our long-term best interests
(consumption myopia).
• Business people know this, and take advantage of our ignorance or unwillingness to face
unpleasant or challenging truths. Only a very few students explicitly acknowledged and
discussed this in any but the most general and superficial way. Those that did got the A
grades, because they understood wha ...

throughout your time as a CAS student, you have been exposed to vaTakishaPeck109
throughout your time as a CAS student, you have been exposed to various developmental theories and practices that align with them. One way that we can connect theoretical understandings with developmentally appropriate practices is through the spaces we create for children and adolescents at-risk.
Develop a classroom or community center/plot of land floorplan where there is intentionality behind every inch of the space. Label each area with its purpose and what area of development it is meant to foster. Be specific, go beyond saying, "Cognitive, Social-emotional, Language, or Physical development". You should have a minimum of 4 pages:
1. A cover page (1 points) where you list your name, student ID, dat, "HW3" and then tell me about the space you are designing and for what age group and population.
· Ages can range from 4 year old's to 18 year old's
· Populations can range from a low-income classroom in an urban, suburban, or rural area to a targeted population (e.g., LGBTQIA+, sexual assault survivors, individuals with learning differences, undocumented youth, etc.)
· Overarching goal of the space you are creating
2. The visual (3 points) representation of the space you created with each area labeled
· You can do this with colored pencils and paper (take a picture or scan it) or on your ipad/tablets and computers using any software/program available to you.
· You can label using letters or numbers or short label names/descriptors
3. The index (4 points) for each area with
· a full name of the area & its goals
· the developmental aspect it is targeting
· through what processes specifically it is targeting that area of development
· Finally, how is it serving a buffer or protective factor for children and adolescents at risk
4. Reflection (2 points) on the process and how realistic your design would be in a school or organization with low resources.
· What 3 areas would you cut and what 2 areas would you absolutely fight to keep if budget was a barrier?
*** You do not need to be an artistic genius to do well on this assignment. It is most important to demonstrate your intentionality in curating spaces for children and adolescents at-risk. Importantly, it needs to be clear that you thought through different processes that impact development.
***There are no file format restrictions given that this is more than a writing assignment.
Research Paper Project Guidelines
This project is an exercise in the social scientific study of public administration,
Students are expected to perform the following tasks:
(a) Choose a substantive, empirical issue pertaining to the topic of the class. The
topic may certainly have normative implications, but it should be
fundamentally an empirical issue. The paper should not be an advocacy
document.
(b) Examine a substantial portion of the social scientific or scholarly literature
analyzing that issue.
(c) Select one or more explanations or perspectives from t ...
A primary goal of mental health education is to increase awareness. This involves teaching children what mental health means, and how to maintain positive mental health. It is vital that youth understand the concept of self-care and that they are responsible for their own mental health.
Class Journals Students must commit themselves to regular attendanc.docxsleeperharwell
Class Journals: Students must commit themselves to regular attendance and to keeping a weekly class journal, which addresses the course subject matter. Because the topic of “politics” and the discipline of “political science” generate so many divergent theoretical and practical interpretations, paying attention to those theoretical and practical interpretations and the way in which they affect your learning, attitudes, and behavior are an important part of this course what you do? Every Wednesday students are responsible for one typewritten full pages about their interpretations of the course readings for that week. What you think; how things affect you; the impact upon society; and also what you learned about yourself and/or others. Why you do it? It is important that you think critically, pay attention to what you are thinking, and that you become an active participant in your own learning process. The development of critical thinking and analytical reasoning are essential to the understanding and use of information. It is what allows the student to discuss and argue points of opinion versus points of fact. What you write about? Journals must clearly address course readings and/or course reading related current events! Write substantive journal entries (relevant subject matter) that differentiate between fact and opinion; determine cause and effect relationships; compare and contrast information/points of view; and making judgments by drawing logical conclusions (give reflective feedback on reading assignments and or reading related current events). What you do not write about?
The exact topic is your choice! However, the journal is NOT a general diary of your life; rather the journal is for you to engage and address course related readings and their impact. There is never an excuse for having nothing to say—you may always address reading assignments.
How long should it be?
Entries must be at least one full-page in length, typewritten with 12pt.font. Be mindful, partial work earns partial credit (this is your opportunity to demonstrate your grasp of course related subject matter; not to mention, the impact of such subject matter on you and or society at-large). When is it due? Journal entries are due every Thursday (check schedule on moodle)! Ultimately, journals assist students in their attempt to better grasp the political process.

In this Discussion Board, create a post and respond to others using the chapter on Proposals but also your initial research. This is an excellent opportunity to describe to classmates what you are focusing on, what areas of research you are excited about, and what areas of research you are entering into that is new for you.
Write respond both of the classmate’s posts.

My proposal topic revolves around gentrification and what can be done to limit its negative effects. I'm most excited about finding a credible person who is educated on this topic so I can interview them and use them as one of my sources. This way I have a lot more credibility if I were to find that my overall research aligns with my interviewees information. I seek to interview someone as I have noticed that my sources are usually in the form of websites or books. I want to offer more variety in my sources that reflects the amount of time invested in my research.
Writing a formal proposal with various different elements is new to me. I've never written a proposal in which I include visuals. Also, this is one topic in which the solutions are not handed to me in my research. In many occasions, when I research a problem, I also research its solutions and I usually find them quickly. For gentrification, however, there are multiple suggested solutions and not one main solution that stands out. I feel this way I'll be encouraged to further contemplate and research all the solutions. As a result, my research on all of the possible solutions will allow me to weigh each solution against each other and choose main solutions that I truly believe.
Second Classmate’s Post
The research that I will be doing will be focused on big data's effect on democracy and how major tech companies and politicians use psychology/sociology to attain what they want by using massive amounts of data collected from citizen's private lives. I'm interested in how the psychological aspect is used in this context. It's a relatively new concept in tech and how it relates to voting and politics is fascinating - and a little frightening. Although psychology is closely related to sociology, sociology is a pretty new discipline for me to delve into so I'll be spending a lot of time exploring that it and how it's connected to government and technology. I'm hopeful that the topic I chose allows me to write a well-rounded paper since it involves multiple disciplines: matters of the mind, tech, and politics.

The purpose of a proposal is to highlight standout ideas, and to do so in a manner that can convince an audience to support a project. Proposals delivered in a workplace are often part of a competitive process in which the strongest proposal is offered the business. In these contexts, effective word choice and professional delivery define the effective communication of an idea. Your research proposal will be presented as a sentence outline. As the name suggests, the sentence outline presents complete thoughts in complete sentences as opposed to phrases. In each section of the proposal, choose ideas with the goal of persuading your reader to believe that you are interested in the topic and ready to learn how to develop the topic into a project. Use a complete sentence to provide the response to each of the questions below. You can use first person. throughout your time as a CAS student, you have been exposed to vaTakishaPeck109
throughout your time as a CAS student, you have been exposed to various developmental theories and practices that align with them.

Corporal Punishment:
Legal Reform as a Route
to Changing Norms
THE TERM “HARMFUL TRADITIONAL PRACTICES” TYPICALLY BRINGS TO MIND CHILD
marriage, female genital mutilation/cutting, and so-called “honor kill-
ings,” but rarely corporal punishment. Yet corporal punishment is
arguably the most pervasive harmful traditional practice children expe-
rience today. In nearly every part of the world, parents use physical
punishment to “discipline” their children. Such corporal punishment
typically takes the form of hitting a child with a bare hand or an object
such as a stick or paddle. A 2014 survey found that four of every five
children between the ages of two and 14—an estimated 1 billion glob-
ally—experience physical punishment in their home on a regular basis
(UNICEF 2014, 96).
The practice of corporal punishment is rooted in both cultural
norms and religious belief. Parents often believe that corporal pun-
ishment will teach children good behavior. They hit their children be-
cause it is socially accepted and because they themselves often were
hit growing up. Some religious teachings appear to justify the prac-
tice.1 The adage “spare the rod, spoil the child,” rooted in the Old Tes-
tament Book of Proverbs, suggests not only that corporal pun.
Database Project Charter/Business Case
Khalia Hart
University of Maryland Global Campus
February 21, 2020
Introduction
A database is an electronic collection of data that is built by a user so that they can access, update particular information in the database coherently or rapidly. Today firms employ integrated technology to increase their capacity to serve more clients, keep information well or effectively, organize activities according to the urgency or priorities, accounting records (Tüttelmann F, 2015). Most of the integrated technology depends on multiple databases that supply information relevant in making the decision. Since the business started using databases, their performance increase because the business decisions they make are sound and practical.
Business Problem
The supply chain management is one of the most complicated processes in the business and often at times due to need of detail it gets hard for the supply chain manager to keep the record of the work covered effectively, have enough data to make the decision and also have enough data to monitor the chain of operation (William, 2019). The supply chain has been so crucial for the business because it determines the performance of the company in the industry by assessing the quality of the product produced in the organization, cost of production, the time and effectiveness of distribution network, and overall production operation of the organization.
Operation management has been named as the leading cause of business failure caused by a lack of a system, which the manager or the supervisor can use to monitor the whole system. This is the problem to solve using the database (William, 2019). Using a database, the manager can observe or watch the entire chain from their office, make better decisions by fore- planning approach of the database also make changes within the system when there is the need to cut costs or making the process effective.
Project Scope
Most business organizations are spread in operation, and this is the challenge that makes the supply chain management complex (Tüttelmann F, 2015). This is because the chain is in different localities, and therefore, coordination of operation among the user or the workers becomes a challenge. Through the database system, the business will enjoy proper coordination using the wide Area Network (LAN). Through the LAN network, the company can link computers and cost-effectively share data and communication. Through this system, the company will have a connection and coordination of the processes within the organization. The number of connected devices will range from 10 to 1000, depending on the type of tools and system that is set to facilitate this connection.
Goals and objectives of the system
The purpose of the system that I want to install in the supply chain management is to;
· Monitoring of the supply chain- the system will enable the manager to monitor the system and every process in the order (Gattor.

Kraft Reformulates Oreo, Scores in China
Julie Jargon. Wall Street Journal. (Eastern edition). New York, N.Y.: May 1, 2008. pg. B.1
Abstract (Summary)
Kraft, the world's second largest food company by revenue, reported a 13% drop in first-quarter net income Wednesday
because of high commodity costs and increased spending on product research and marketing. Television commercials
showed kids twisting apart Oreo cookies, licking the cream center and dipping the chocolate cookie halves into glasses of
milk.

Unlike its iconic American counterpart, the Oreo sold in China is frequently long, thin, four-layered and coated in chocolate. But
both kinds of cookies have one important thing in common: They are now best sellers.
The Oreo has long been the top-selling cookie in the U.S. market. But Kraft Foods Inc. had to reinvent the Oreo to make it sell
well in the world's most populous nation. While Chinese Oreo sales represent a tiny fraction of Kraft's $37.2 billion in annual
revenue, the cookie's journey in China exemplifies the kind of entrepreneurial transformation that Chief Executive Irene
Rosenfeld is trying to spread throughout the food giant.
Kraft, the world's second largest food company by revenue, reported a 13% drop in first-quarter net income Wednesday
because of high commodity costs and increased spending on product research and marketing. Its international business,
which now represents 40% of Kraft's revenue thanks to the company's recent acquisition of Groupe Danone's biscuits
business, was a bright spot in the quarter, aided by the weak dollar. Kraft's profit in the European Union rose 48%, excluding
special charges, and its profit in developing markets rose 57%.
To try to increase growth at the company, Ms. Rosenfeld has been putting more power in the hands of Kraft's various
business units around the globe, telling employees that decisions about Kraft products shouldn't all be made by people at the
Northfield, Ill., headquarters.
To take advantage of the European preference for dark chocolate, Kraft is introducing dark chocolate in Germany under its
Milka brand. Research in Russia showed that consumers there like premium instant coffee, so Kraft is positioning its Carte
Noire freeze-dried coffee as upscale by placing it at film festivals, fashion shows and operas. And in the Philippines, where
iced tea is popular, Kraft last year launched iced-tea-flavored Tang. Ms. Rosenfeld has also been encouraging marketers to
"reframe" product categories, no longer thinking, for example, that an Oreo has to be a round sandwich cookie.
Oreos were first introduced in 1912 in the U.S., but it wasn't until 1996 that Kraft introduced Oreos to Chinese consumers.
Nine years later, a makeover began. Shawn Warren, a 37-year-old .

Database System Overview
1.1 Business Environment
Office Depot, Inc is an American retail store company founded in 1986 and headquartered in Florida, United States. The company provides office and school supplies with 1400 retail stores and e-commerce sites. The supply includes everything to their customer like latest technology, core school and office supplies, printing and documenting service, furniture and other services like cell phone repair, tech and marketing service etc.
Recently there were too many complaints from existing and new customer that the online site is super glitch and lagging. Another customer posted that the delivery did not come on the scheduled day. And they cannot track down the order because the website does not have tracking information. Also when the website is down, customer service cannot help to see the order details either and therefore, they feel it’s frustrating to order online and therefore want to cancel the order. One other customer posted in the website grievance section that the “label maker” showed available in the stock even though it was out of stock when verified with the customer service representative. With every product not in stock, we lose opportunity of sale which costs the store. This not only affect customer but also affect company. We are so dependent on the data, most of the time staff has to correct accounting report, sales estimates and invoice customer manually which is very time-consuming in an excel sheet.
In order to solve above issues and avoid sales loss, Office Depot must have a database to store and maintain correct count of the products. This database will help inventory management i.e. tracking products, update inventory, find popular or less popular item, loss prevention, track inventory status and perform data mining. The staff can access this database via a computerized database. (Gerald H., Importance of inventory database retail)1.2 Database system goals and objective
The mission of the company is to become number one retail company by creating inclusive environment and great shopping experience where both customer and employees are respected and valued. To achieve the retail store mission, we are committed to provide secure and robust data base system for ou.
Database Security Assessment Transcript You are a contracting office.docxwhittemorelucilla
Database Security Assessment Transcript You are a contracting officer's technical representative, a Security System Engineer, at a military hospital. Your department's leaders are adopting a new medical health care database management system. And they've tasked you to create a request for proposal for which different vendors will compete to build and provide to the hospital. A Request For Proposal, or RFP, is when an organization sends out a request for estimates on performing a function, delivering a technology, or providing a service or augmenting staff. RFPs are tailored to each endeavor but have common components and are important in the world of IT contracting and for procurement and acquisitions. To complete the RFP, you must determine the technical and security specifications for the system. You'll write the requirements for the overall system and also provide evaluation standards that will be used in rating the vendor's performance. Your learning will help you determine your system's requirements. As you discover methods of attack, you'll write prevention and remediation requirements for the vendor to perform. You must identify the different vulnerabilities the database should be hardened against.
Modern healthcare systems incorporate databases for effective and efficient management of patient healthcare. Databases are vulnerable to cyberattacks and must be designed and built with security controls from the beginning of the life cycle. Although hardening the database early in the life cycle is better, security is often incorporated after deployment, forcing hospital and healthcare IT professionals to play catch-up. Database security requirements should be defined at the requirements stage of acquisition and procurement.
System security engineers and other acquisition personnel can effectively assist vendors in building better healthcare database systems by specifying security requirements up front within the request for proposal (RFP). In this project, you will be developing an RFP for a new medical healthcare database management system.
Parts of your deliverables will be developed through your learning lab. You will submit the following deliverables for this project:
Deliverables
• An RFP, about 10 to 12 pages, in the form of a double-spaced Word document with citations in APA format. The page count does not include figures, diagrams, tables, or citations. There is no penalty for using additional pages. Include a minimum of six references. Include a reference list with the report.
• An MS-Excel spreadsheet with lab results.
There are 11 steps in this project. You will begin with the workplace scenario and continue with Step 1: "Provide an Overview for Vendors."
Step 1: Provide an Overview for Vendors
As the contracting officer's technical representative (COTR), you are the liaison between your hospital and potential vendors. It is your duty to provide vendors with an overview of your organization. To do so, identify infor.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Global Issues in the Liberal Arts Research Paper Proposal.docx
1. Global Issues in the Liberal Arts
Research Paper Proposal
Name: _____Shannon Gutierrez_____ Date:
__1/11/18_______________
1. What is the general topic you want to learn and write about?
The general topic must be
an objective examination of a topic related to one of the four
breadth areas and it must
have a global perspective or be of global significance.
Economics of global warming is the general topic for my
research paper.
2. Identify which breadth area(s) the topic is related to and
explain how the topic is related
to this breadth area (s), or how you can use the perspectives of
this particular breadth area
(s) to examine the topic of your research within its global
context.
This topic will fall within the science/description and social
civic breadth area of liberal
arts. First, Social/Civic because the climate affects the entire
world and the >>>> policy
on global warming requires that countries develop relationships
to accomplish an overall
2. objective. Many Activist believe that science has proven global
warming to be a real
ecological concern yet many countries and individuals in
society choose not to
acknowledge global warming as fact.
The Science/Description breadth area because as mentioned one
must believe in the facts
and evidence provided on the topic. Global warming and the
study of its effects requires
an understanding of nature and the structure. Technological
advances may provide many
solutions to the challenge, however, few countries have the
financial means or education
to implement such solutions.
3. What is the purpose of the study? Why have you chosen this
particular general topic?
Do you intend to educate or illuminate a particular group about
your topic? Do you
intend that this group or person will change it's/his/her thinking
or take action because of
your study?
The purpose of this study is to have a deeper understanding of
global politics and how the
United States decision to leave the Paris Agreement will
financially impact third world
countries.
4. What is your research question? You are not conducting
field research (i.e., survey data,
interviews, primary source data). Research in this context
means investigating a topic in
3. depth using credible sources.
Your research question guides what sources you select and read
in depth. This is a
specific, clear, concise question you have about the topic that is
grounded in facts that
can be discovered in the literature. Remember that the question
should be intellectually
challenging and not be one that can be answered with a simple
“yes,” “no,” or “maybe.”
Review your question for its clarity and scope. Will the
question point you to specific
information on your topic? Will you be able to find enough
information on the topic? Is it
so broad that you will get hundreds or thousands of articles on
the topic? Could you write
approximately 8-10 pages that illuminate what scholars are
writing about on this
question?
How does the economics of global warming affect the income
inequalities between and
within countries thru the redistribution of wealth?
5. What is your working thesis? This is your tentative answer
to your research question;
your best-educated guess as to what the answer will be. If, in
the end, you find
something different, that is OK. There is no right or wrong
here. This is to get you
thinking about what you expect to find on your topic. Your
thesis should be concise; 1-2
4. sentences.
Even though the Paris protocol provides financial resources to
assist developing countries
with the adoption of technology they will struggle due to other
limitations. The
economics of global warming unfairly place developing
countries at an economic
disadvantage.
6. What resources will you use in collecting your information?
Using the professional literature
is a requirement. Professional literature will come primarily
from articles in the Ottawa
University library databases.
I plan to use peer review journal articles found in the Ottawa
University library database. I
would like to conduct one personal interview with a David
Kneeland a graduate student at
The University of Texas’s LBJ School of Public Affairs. Mr.
Kneeland’s major is
international relations/global studies. He is also currently
employed as an intern for Karl
Rove, Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff during the
George W. Bush administration.
Assume your own a business with 1000 employees.
Discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act on whether you
would provide insurance to your employees; or pay the fine and
and refer your employees to the individual insurance market or
have them receive governmental insurance.

Learning Autobiography (LAB # 1):
Formal and Informal Educational Experiences
Student’s Name
Date
(Notice the next page number appears with short title)
Title of Paper
6. (Notice that the title of the paper is repeated here--centered,
with the main words capitalized)
Most of the papers you write at the college level should begin
with an introduction. The introduction is much like a movie
preview, in that it gives the reader a glimpse into what your
paper is about, its purpose, and how it is organized. Instead of
simply listing the things you will discuss in the paper, think
creatively about how you could engage the reader and motivate
him or her to want to read what you have written. The
introduction section for both Learning Autobiographies should
be one-quarter to one-half page in length.
Formal Educational Experiences
(Notice that the main headings of the paper are centered,
boldface, and main words are capitalized. Also note that the
heading immediately follows the end of the previous section
with no additional line spaces.)
In this section of the paper, reflect on the formal educational
experiences you have had in the past. An educational experience
is “formal” if it is associated with an educational institution that
gives grades and grants diplomas and/or degrees. This would
include elementary school, junior and senior high, classes taken
in the military, colleges and universities. It would not include
classes offered by organizations like the YWCA or YMCA,
workshops taken as part of job training, etc.
Significant Experience (Notice that sub-heading is boldface and
at left margin.)
As part of the section on your formal educational experiences,
discuss at least one experience that had a significant impact on
your development as a learner. Describe the experience.
Analyze its meaning and reflect on its impact on you as a
learner. It is important to examine one or two experiences in
depth, rather than to cover the complete breadth of your
experiences. The impact may have had negative, positive, or
mixed effects on you.
Significant Teacher, Role Model, Mentor, or Coach
In all likelihood, there was at least one particular teacher, role
7. model, mentor, or coach, who played a special role in your
development as a young person and as a learner. Identify at
least one of these individuals and discuss how that person
influenced your sense of direction, values, and/or sense of self.
Self as a Life-Long Learner
This section should also discuss what you have learned about
yourself with regard to the type of learner you are. In what
types of situations or subjects do you learn most easily? In what
types of situations or subjects do you struggle with learning?
After reviewing your scores on the Multiple Intelligences
Assessment and the Jung Typology test, reflect on what you
learned about yourself and how the findings on the assessments
correlate with your own self assessment. What are some
examples from your life experience that illustrate your
“intelligences”? How do your intelligences relate to classroom
learning? What does your typology indicate about who you are
and the types of courses and careers in which you might be
interested? What types of courses or assignments will be more
difficult for you? How can you build on your strengths to
enhance your success as a student?
What will you need to learn and/or focus on to succeed in
completing your college degree? For example, will you need to
take a mini-course or workshop in using a computer? Will you
need to get extra help (for example, tutoring) in writing or in
math-related courses? Will you need to shuffle your priorities?
Will you need to eat well before classes begin or bring some
healthy snacks you can eat during the break?
Informal Educational Experiences
In this section of the paper, reflect on your informal learning
experiences. Informal experiences include those that take place
in such situations as on-the-job training, parenting,
homemaking, and volunteering. They also include learning
associated with recreational activities (e.g. learning to play
golf), youth groups, clubs (e.g., Girls Scouts), and hobbies.
Significant Life Event
As part of discussing your informal educational
8. experiences, reflect on at least one critical life event that
changed you in some way. This could be either a positive event,
for example the birth of a child, or a negative event, such as an
accident. Some of life’s most painful experiences or unexpected
experiences result in deeply meaningful learning. For example,
a near drowning accident can result in one learning how to swim
or never setting a toe in water again. In addition to identifying
the event, explain the changes that resulted. Again, the depth of
reflection on the meaning of the life event is key to this
assignment.
Conclusion
The last section of the paper is entitled Conclusion. Think of
the Introduction as one “book end” to your paper and the
Conclusion as the second “book end.” It should review the main
points or contents of the paper and leave the reader with a last
thought. As with the Introduction section, you should strive to
creatively end the essay in a way that will leave an impression
on the reader.
Note:
These guidelines are meant to give you ideas and guidance
about what to put in your essay. They are not meant to restrict
you or define for you what to do. Use your creativity and your
unique thinking skills to create a personally meaningful essay.
Remember that spell check’s intelligence is actually quite
limited. Rumor has it that spell check never graduated from
high school. Using spell check and grammar check are not
sufficient for writing a college paper. Proof reading is essential.
Use double spacing throughout the entire paper. Use the
Paragraph function to set spacing before and after paragraphs at
0 pt. This will eliminate additional line spacing between
paragraphs. Notice that the margins all the way around the page
are set at 1 inch. Remember to use Times New Roman font, size
12.
One final guideline—your essay should be approximately 5 to 7
pages long—title page, 3 to 5 pages for introduction, body, and
9. conclusion, and references page. If it is shorter than 5 pages, it
may mean you have not thought deeply enough or extensively
enough about your formal and informal educational experiences
and how they have shaped your identity as a life-long learner.
