This document discusses different approaches to hybrid cloud architectures and how to get them right the first time. It outlines emerging hybrid cloud architectural patterns like static placement, assisted replication, auto migration, and dynamic migration. It emphasizes the need for cloud abstraction and defines common interfaces, services, processes, and models. It also notes that security, governance, and testing are critical to the success of any hybrid cloud architecture.
This is my presentation slide topic "Cloud Migration Principle Sharing" delivered at IDC Business Innovation Forum 2018 Bangkok, October 17, 2018
Cloud infrastructure migration is one of the key foundations for most enterprise embracing digital transformation. As SHERA PCL had already migrated all workloads to cloud in 2018, the presentation will share end-to-end cloud migration lesson learn from preparation phase, cloud selection, and actual cutover. It will covers elements such as cloud comparison (private, public, local vs global, XaaS), associated matters (applications, interface, cloud connectivity, DNS/IP, license), as well as benefits, cost, and payment model of cloud infrastructure. It will provide additional thoughts for those who are outlining for cloud infrastructure migration.
Cloud Migration Patterns: A Multi-Cloud Architectural PerspectivePooyan Jamshidi
Cloud migration requires an engineering, verifiable, measurable, transparent and repeatable approach rather than an ad-hoc approach based on trial and error.
We describe a comprehensive set of (multi-)cloud migration patterns from an architectural perspective. In this work, we focus on application components and their migration to the multi-cloud environments. We define and characterize the patterns with concrete usage scenario. We also describe the process for migration pattern selection, composition and extension.
Cloud computing is an emerging technology that
offers opportunities for organisations to hire precisely those ICT
services they need (SaaS/PaaS/IaaS). Small and medium sized
enterprises (SMEs) can benefit a lot from software services that
are managed in a professional way. Cloud computing enables
them to overcome restrictions from low budgets and limited
resources for ICT. However, cloud adoption is challenging and
requires a clear cloud roadmap. Organisations lack knowledge of
cloud computing and are usually challenged by the adoption of
cloud services. In most cases, SMEs do not know what aspects
they have to take into consideration for a sound decision in
favour or against the cloud. A cloud readiness assessment is a
general approach to facilitate this decision-making process.
The presented study focuses on the development of an assessment framework for cloud services (SaaS) in the domain of enterprise content management (ECM) and social software (ecollaboration).

Migrating your Existing Applications to the CloudNestweaver
Cloud migration is the process of moving the applications, data or business elements from on-premise location or organization computer to the cloud or migrating from one cloud environment to another. The transition of data between cloud environments is called cloud to cloud migration and transitioning to a different cloud provider is called cloud service migration. In some cases, the successful migration to service provider environment may require middleware or cloud integration tool to bridge the gap between the service provider and the customer.
Cloud Computing Principles and Paradigms: 2 migration into a cloudMajid Hajibaba
migration of an application into the cloud can happen in one of several ways: Either the application is clean and independent, so it runs as is; or perhaps some degree of code needs to be modified and adapted; or the design (and therefore the code) needs to be first migrated into the cloud computing service environment;
In fact, the migration industry thrives on these custom and proprietary best practices. Many of these best practices are specialized at the level of the components of an enterprise application—like migrating application servers or the enterprise databases.
Cloud Migration: Moving Data and Infrastructure to the CloudSafe Software
The movement to the cloud is accelerating across industries. This is driven by the maturing of cloud technology, and by the sudden shift to a more distributed and remote workforce.
The cloud has many strengths from no longer having to purchase and manage infrastructure to its ability to grow seamlessly and to scale up and down to meet demands.
With all these benefits, many organizations are preparing cloud migration strategies (such as on-premise to the cloud) and are finding themselves overwhelmed by the process.
There are many things to consider when planning a cloud migration but the process does not have to be complicated or costly due to private services. Join this webinar to learn how you get started with your cloud migration today!

Cloud in a public sector environment is an interesting proposition. In business today there is an over riding pressure to reduce IT costs and in many countries in Europe there is a central “cloud first” policy intended to encourage the adoption of cloud within the Public Sector.
Yet there are concerns about security, privacy and availability of government and citizen data stored off premise in a public cloud entity.
However the technical and commercial flexibility of cloud can offer significant business advantages.
As more applications are being developed as a set of microservices, containers and platforms such as Kubernetes make many things much easier, but still leave untouched many operational issues such as traffic management and visibility, service authentication, security and policy. Istio, is a new service mesh that attempts to address many of these. We will discuss the architecture of Istio and the benefits it may offer to new microservice-based systems in a multicloud world.

The Best of Both Worlds: Implementing Hybrid IT with AWSRightScale
With the increased use of cloud services, organizations are faced with finding the most efficient way to leverage existing IT infrastructure alongside cloud-based compute, storage, and networking resources. This has resulted in the rise of hybrid infrastructure so IT teams can deliver agility and performance with visibility and control.
At RightScale, we’ve implemented some of the world’s largest hybrid IT deployments. In this session, we share implementation approaches, architecture design considerations, and steps for a successful hybrid IT model.
This session covers:
1. How to develop a strategy and framework for a successful path to hybrid IT.
2. How to prioritize applications for public cloud versus on-premises.
3. How to manage multiple compute resource pools through a unified management framework.
4. Implementation and continuous improvement of a hybrid IT environment.
Examples of enterprise hybrid IT implementations include cloudbursting, high availability, and disaster recovery.
This session provides an overview of how organizations can migrate workloads to the AWS cloud at scale. We will go through available migration frameworks and best practices with common use case examples during this session. After migrating the initial workloads, understand how to migrate at scale to the AWS cloud. Hear about real life experiences from the AWS Professional Services team and learn about common use case examples, frameworks, and best practices. Hear about what to avoid when migrating applications at scale to AWS and understand the tools and partner services that can assist you when migrating applications to AWS.
Migrating large fleets of legacy applications to AWS cloud infrastructure requires careful planning, since each phase needs to balance risk tolerance against the speed of migration.
Through participation in many large-scale migration engagements with customers, AWS Professional Services has developed a set of successful best practices, tools, and techniques that help migration factories optimize speed of delivery and success rate. In this session, we cover the complete lifecycle of an application portfolio migration with special emphasis on how to organize and conduct the assessment and how to identify elements that can benefit from cloud architecture.
With all the hype around Cloud and SDN, business decision makers are finding themselves trying to navigate through many new concepts and consequently needing to change the way they have traditionally selected their IT infrastructure. Technologies are now becoming more integrated and it is more important than ever to help your business be agile enough to keep up with the demands of your users and your customers. Come hear from Lisa Guess to learn how organizations can embrace Cloud technologies such as automation, SDN and Orchestration platforms to help you build next-generation networks.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
