At Web Summit 2017, Intercom co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Des Traynor spoke about the importance of product strategy at early stage companies.
Intercom co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Des Traynor discusses why retention is more important than conversion in modern subscription businesses.
Rebranding Your A/E/C Firm: What, When, HowDavid Lecours
Your firm should be continually growing its expertise and capabilities. In the last 5-10 years, you probably added new markets and new services. You may have an entirely new strategic direction. Is the public perception of your firm keeping up, or is it stuck in the past? It could be time for a rebrand.
Rebranding is not a panacea. But done well, it can energize a tired brand. All A/E/C firm brands go through a life cycle. So it's nearly guaranteed that, at some point in your career as a firm owner or marketer, your firm will go through a rebrand. From gaining Board of Directors' approval, to budgeting, managing the process, managing expectations, and rolling it out, this can be a delicate process. Just ask Yahoo, The Gap, and UPS.
This slide deck is from a webinar designed to help you navigate the process of what, when, and how to complete a successful A/E/C firm rebranding.

Web-brutalism is a movement that provokes creativity and diversity against to standardization in the world of web. It has led to homogenization of UX web world of which importance has started to be understood in digital product world since the early 2010s. It caused to swarm with carbon copy sites of internet since UX rules are given as the excuse.

Today, it is virtually impossible to absorb all the content you’re interested in. There’s only so many hours in a day. And you probably still have to study or a job to do.
But then there’s smart algorithms which are constantly learning what we do and don’t like. At a certain point, they help us to make the optimal choice each and every time. They go by the names of Siri, Cortana or Google Now. And they will become the personal assistant everyone carries around.
Bad news for advertisers.
Because, how will advertisers ever get commercial content past all the smartness that has been put into the consumers’ hands?
And how will advertisers have to change in order to be successful?

8 Interactive Trends Changing the Business LandscapeTim Sandlund
The world is changing quickly. This presentation looks at 8 interactive trends that are changing the business landscape. Technology is changing the way consumers interact with brands and how brands interact with consumers. Buying habits and consumer expectations are rapidly evolving. This is and will continue to have major implications for marketing. Is your business ready to adapt and take full advantage of how these trends are changing the way we do business?
Innovation is one of the ultimate buzzwords of our era but what is it really? What is its meaning? How can we see it? Replicate it? Scale it? In his talk, I propose that innovation really is the “removal of friction” from a system; and that through this lens we can understand the rise of design, lean startup, Silicon Valley and possibly many other innovative happenings across time.
The talk covers the following topics:
1. The Real Lesson Steve Jobs Taught Us
2. The Rise of Design
3. Innovation = The Removal Of Friction?
4. Co-opting Innovation
The demand to generate content and amplify it in B2B can be overwhelming. How do you make it seem like you’re everywhere when you can’t spend 24/7 making content and can’t spend every dime on paid social to promote it? We are going to uncover the ways you can repurpose your content quickly and easily. Better yet, potential customers will wonder how you manage to be everywhere — and how you always seem to know the problems they’re trying to solve. You’ll learn how to create a content generation machine that won’t burn you out, and the what/where/how of promoting it on LinkedIn and Facebook Ads to get the most out of everything you create. You’ll leave with a blueprint you can start following that very day to get a plan in place that turns hard content work into smart content marketing.
Takeaways:
How to create and repurpose content your target audience cares about, how to use tools to speed up the process, how to measure success, and how to run on paid social without breaking the bank.

Why the next generation of startups won’t build appsIntercom
The internet is young and changing fast. We're moving towards people-oriented systems, not apps as destinations, with many different types of interfaces. Paul Adams, VP Product at Intercom, explains what this means for tomorrow's startups.
What software companies can learn from shopping centresIntercom
To understand software platforms and how they work, it's worth looking at the history of shopping centers. From the need for great partners to designing around people and experiences, they have a lot more in common than you might think. That's the thesis of this talk delivered by Intercom Senior Product Manager, Hugh Durkin at our Inside Intercom Dublin event.
Make it reversible - Stephen O'Brien at Inside Intercom AustinIntercom
We can’t go back in time, so we have to be careful with the decisions we make and the actions we take. But in software development we can make what we do easily reversible. Stephen O'Brien, Intercom Director of Engineering, on the benefits of making it reversible.
Enhancing Research Orchestration Capabilities at ORNL.pdfGlobus
Cross-facility research orchestration comes with ever-changing constraints regarding the availability and suitability of various compute and data resources. In short, a flexible data and processing fabric is needed to enable the dynamic redirection of data and compute tasks throughout the lifecycle of an experiment. In this talk, we illustrate how we easily leveraged Globus services to instrument the ACE research testbed at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility with flexible data and task orchestration capabilities.
Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
