Rural families in Nicaragua face health issues from cooking over open fires and lack of fuel. The document proposes replacing open fires with improved cook stoves that safely convert rice husk into cooking heat. It provides specifications for the stove, including using locally available materials, producing sufficient heat, being durable and easy to use. Various stove designs are sketched and testing plans outlined to develop a stove that addresses users' needs.
