Mode of Speciation
 Allopatric: population splits into two geographically isolated population
 Peripatric: prevented from exchanging genes with the main population
 Parapatric: differential landscape-dependent selection
 Sympatric: two or more descendant species from a single ancestral species

Geographical Isolation(Allopatric)
 The separation of two populations of the same species
or breeding group by a physical barrier, such as a
mountain or body of water.
 Geographical isolation may ultimately lead to the
populations becoming separate species by adaptive
radiation.
 Factors led to are:
o isolation by barriers;
o isolation by separation
These squirrels live on
opposite sides of the
Grand Canyon, example
of isolation by barriers

o isolation by distance;
o isolation after an event;
These are the types of
leopard frogs of USA,
example of isolation by
distances.

Indian plate movement
•Until roughly 140 million years ago, the Indian Plate formed
part of the supercontinent Gondwana.
•About 100 mya, Madagascar split from India and Indian plate
began moving with 8 in/year and collided with Eurasian plate
approx. 55 mya.

 Dinosaur
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the
clade Dinosauria that first appeared during the
Triassic period.
They became the dominant terrestrial vertebrates after
the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event 201 million years ago.
Now I should move to the case study---

•Rajasaurus is a genus of carnivorous
abelisaurian theropoddinosaur with an unusual head crest.
•Paleontologists Paul Sereno, Jeff Wilson and Suresh
Srivastava worked together as an Indo–American group to
study the Narmada River fossils.

Rajasaurus is known only from the Indian Peninsula.
While Rajasaurus had evolved along its own direction, it
was still similar to other abelisaurids
Rajasaurus has been found in the Lameta Formation.

Arcovenator
Arcovenator ("Arc hunter") is
a genus of abelisaurid theropod dinosau
r hailing from the Late
Cretaceous of France.
Majungasaurus
Majungasaurus is a genus of
abelisaurid theropod dinosaur that
lived in Madagascar from 70 to
66 million years ago, at the end of
the Cretaceous Period

Is there any isolation in the species of subfamily?
 The skull roof exhibits as a unique diagnostic character a
midline foramen, possibly housing the pineal gland
 The centra possess amphicoelous
 Majungasaurus is perhaps most distinctive for its skull
ornamentation, including the swollen and fused nasals and the frontal
horn.

Editor's Notes

  1. The cladogram above, for instance, indicates that humans and chimpanzees share a more recent ancestor than do any other pair of apes. Humans and chimpanzees, in turn, share a more recent ancestor with gorillas than with orangutans. Orangutans are the most distantly related member of the group; they share a common ancestor with the other members furthest in the past.
  2. These are the examples of present day geographical isolation, all these are the species found in tasmania, landmass which is separated from the rest of the world for millions of years which leads to the formation of different species which only found in tasmania only no where else.
  3. Speciation is the evolutionary process by which reproductively isolated biological populations evolve to become distinct species. Charles Darwin was the first to describe the role of natural selection in speciation. He also identified sexual selection as a likely mechanism, but found it problematic. Example 1. squirrels 2. A part of population living separately from other like green and brown beetles. 3. May be human PARAPATRIC is same as allopatric but the difference is, that in allopatric 2 species separate out but in later there is one hybrid species exist which show common linkage in them.
  4. Kaibab and albert squirrels on opposite sides of great canyon, where kaibab is a subspecies of albert and it develop completely white tail. ISOLATION BY SEPARATION example is An isolated group of beetles on a hill only work, eat and mate with one another. As a result, only genetic material within that small group is exchanged, leading to a less varied beetle population than others that mate with different subgroups.
  5. Btu I wish to describe u this map
  6. 2. Dinosaur bones have been reported from the Narmada valley since the late 19th century, including some belonging to Titanosaurus indicus. 3. Paleontologists Paul Sereno of the University of Chicago, Jeff Wilson of the University of Michigan, and Suresh Srivastava(GSI) worked together as an Indo–American group to study the Narmada River fossils. The fossils represented the partial skeleton of the new species Rajasaurus narmadensis, which means "princely lizard from the Narmada Valley.
  7. 1. Rajasaurus is known only from the Indian Peninsula. At the time it was alive; the Indian landmass had recently separated from the rest of Gondwana and was moving north. 2. While Rajasaurus had evolved along its own direction, it was still similar to other abelisaurids such as Majungasaurus from Madagascar and Carnotaurus from South America; these animals descended from a common lineage. 3. Rajasaurus has been found in the Lameta Formation. This rock unit represents a forested setting of rivers and lakes that formed between episodes of volcanism. The volcanic rocks are now known as the Deccan Traps.
  8. The skull roof exhibits as a unique diagnostic character a midline foramen, possibly housing the pineal gland, situated on the posterior surface of a slight dome formed by frontal bones as moderately thick as in Aucasaurus, thus less so than for Rajasaurus. The centra possess amphicoelous articulations with the pertinent facets of an intermediate nature between the circular ones of Ilokelesia and those of the elliptical persuasion in Rajasaurus  Majungasaurus is perhaps most distinctive for its skull ornamentation, including the swollen and fused nasals and the frontal horn. Other ceratosaurs, including Carnotaurus, Rajasaurus, and Ceratosaurus itself bore crests on the head
