Gennett Record Case Study
On October 3, 1993, the Palladium–Item asked the citizens of Richmond, Indiana to clip a coupon
and answer a pressing question: Should we "Save or Raze" it? The remaining buildings in the
Whitewater Gorge, better known to locals as Starr Valley, was the it in question. Starr Valley was a
twenty–five acre industrial complex that was once home to both the Starr Piano Company and
Gennett Records. Starr Piano was one of the largest manufacturers of pianos in the United States in
the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Gennett Records was one of the first independent
record labels, founded in 1915. They were amongst the first companies to release American
vernacular forms of music, such as jazz, blues, country, and gospel. The site, ... Show more content

In the 1980s, several local citizens, many who worked at Starr Piano or for the Gennett family
explored ways to preserve and commemorate the historic and finally created a not for profit
organization, the Starr–Gennett Foundation. Their initial goals and plans called for a museum to be
built in Starr Valley and the remaining buildings preserved. Several factors, including funding and
local indifference, cause the Foundation to seek other paths to preservation and interpretation. They
arrived at a plan to repurpose the remaining building into an events venue and turn the site into a
Greenway. Additionally, the foundation installed historic interpretation markers and a "Walk of
Fame." Each September, the foundation inducts new musicians into the Walk of Fame and promotes
several concerts and community events to celebrate and acknowledge this story. But it is still
developed as a local celebration, largely due to funding challenges and being run by an all–volunteer

Metal Catalyzed Carbon
Recently metal–catalyzed carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom cross–coupling reactions have
been developed as an important reaction class in chemical synthesis.1 Nowadays, there is a variety
of competitive methods for synthesis of aryl–nucleophile bonds with various sources of C–, O–, N–,
P–, and S–nucleophiles.1–5 Researchers have extensively applied palladium–based catalysts in
cross–coupling reactions in both academic and industrial settings,5, 6 however, our goal is the
development of a range of copper–based catalysts for cross–coupling reactions. Copper–assisted
Sonogashira–type coupling reactions are valuable transformations for organic synthesis. C–C bond
formation between aryl halides and terminal aryl– and alkyl–alkynes affords the corresponding
substituted internal alkynes. Alkynes are the building blocks of a wide range of pharmaceuticals,
natural products, biologically active molecules, conducting polymers, nonlinear, optical and liquid
crystal materials.7–12 The routine reaction method for Sonogashira–type coupling is the use of a
palladium–based catalyst and a copper(I) salt as a co–catalyst.13 The role of the copper co–catalyst
is to produce a copper–acetylide intermediate that subsequently transmetallates to the palladium
center. In recent years, many different catalytic systems including copper–free palladium–based
catalysts have been applied for this reaction,14, 15 but the use of effective palladium–free systems
would obviously be much more interesting in

Synthesis and IR Analysis of trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)]
Abstract
In this lab we synthesized trans–[Bis(inosinato) palladium(II)] for IR analysis. After completion of
the reaction 84.4% of the product was collected. IR spectrum of the product and inosine was
analyzed to determine how the inosine is bonded to the metal, palladium. From the IR analysis, it
was determined that when inosine reacts with palladium, a shift of about 65 cm–1 in the carbonyl
stretch was observed.
Introduction:
In this experiment, trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)], was synthesized. The general reaction
equation for the reaction is shown below: KOH
(1) K2[PdCl4] + 2 inosine trans–[Pd(inosine–H+)2] + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A total of 1.5 mL was added to produce a pH of around 6. The mixture was stirred for an additional
30 minutes. The light yellow precipitate was collected by suction filtration using a Hirsch funnel.
The product was washed with two 1–mL portions of cold methanol followed by two 1–mL portions
of diethyl ether. The product was dried in the oven at 110°C. The IR spectrum as a KBr pellet was
obtained for the product and inosine for analysis.
Results and Discussion:
After completion of the reaction, the percent yield was collected for the product and is shown in
Table 1. Synthesis of the yellow solid Trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)] was 84.4%.

Catalytic Converter Failure
Today's newer vehicles come equipped with a catalytic converter. Designed to reduce emissions, the
catalytic converter is an important part of your vehicle. Unfortunately, like anything else
mechanical, the catalytic converter can break and fail. Luckily, you can reduce the amount of
damage a failing catalytic converter causes by knowing the warning signs.
So what are some symptoms that indicate your catalytic converter is failing? Here are three.
1. Reduced Acceleration and Engine Performance
Perhaps one of the most noticeable signs that your catalytic converter is having issues is reduced
acceleration and engine performance. Since the catalytic converter is built into the exhaust system, it
can easily affect your engine. If the converter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this will affect the performance of your vehicle, it's more likely that you'll notice the leak
first. After all, a leak is prominent. If you believe your catalytic converter is leaking, be sure to look
for oil or transmission fluid. If you notice a leak, be sure to look at the converter casing for signs of
damage.
2. Unusual Rattling Noise
Another symptom that your catalytic converter is damaged is an unusual rattling noise. In general,
your vehicle shouldn't make any odd or loud noises. If you do begin to hear a rattling sound, it's
likely that the meshes inside the converter are breaking. As these tiny pieces break, they cause a
rattling sound. As you might expect, this sound will continue to get worse over time as the converter
deteriorates. So if you hear this sound, get it addressed quickly to prevent serious damages to your
vehicle.
3. Pungent Exhaust Odors
Exhaust isn't pleasant to smell. However, if may become worse or much more noticeable when the
catalytic converter begins to fail. As fuel builds up in your converter, it will begin to burn and
produce a strong odor. Unfortunately, this can make your vehicle very dangerous as fuel and gases
make your vehicle more prone to fires. So if you smell anything unusual or pungent when driving
your vehicle, get it looked at as soon as

A Brief Note On Trading Strategy
Trading Strategy
As a portfolio Manager, my goal was to increase the portfolio value using a trading strategy that
combines speculation and diversification (Refer figure 1 in the appendix). As a speculator, I would
be betting on the movement of the underlying asset therefore, it was essential that I diversify my
holdings to minimize the exposure. A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against
the downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were
Futures contract and Stocks. Again, the goal was to diversify within both vehicle types to protect
against the exposure (Refer figure 2 and 3).

 Long Platinum April 2016: Platinum is one of the industrious precious metals and because of its
unique properties it has become a popular trading asset. It is largely used in the auto industry and
auto industry has been experiencing a boom; which is why platinum prices have been rising steadily.
Platinum is also great investing option and it is cheaper than gold.
 Long Soybean Oil March 2016: Increasing populations and developing economies have
contributed to an ongoing increase in food demand, thus broadly raising the prices of most
agricultural commodities over the past few years. "The price of soybean futures has been rising
since early 2009, while the long–term outlook is favorable as well" . Furthermore, the oils are

Pd Ni / Al2o3 Systems
Pd–Ni/Al2O3 systems were investigated in the reaction of hydrogen oxidation in terms of their
possible application as catalysts used in passive autocatalytic recombiners (PARs) used in nuclear
power plants. Testing experiments, were carried out in a flowing system at different temperatures
and humidity of the reaction mixture. The bimetallic catalysts exhibited higher response to the
increase of temperature and higher resistance to inhibiting water than the monometallic palladium
catalyst. They showed excellent stability during a few tens of hours, similarly, like their
monometallic counterpart. Our bimetallic catalysts of hydrogen oxidation can be used as cheaper
alternatives to catalysts based on the precious metals in the hydrogen oxidation without loss of their
activity over time.
Keywords: palladium, palladium–nickel, catalyst, hydrogen oxidation
INTRODUCTION
The vital component of zircaloy, the construction material of the nuclear reactor equipment, is
zirconium. This element is characterized by very low absorption of thermal neutrons and has high
corrosion resistance, however at higher temperatures it reacts with water forming hydrogen.
Hydrogen causes hydrogen embrittlement of fuel cladding for long lasting exposure and the risk of
an explosion during the reactor overheating. Hydrogen oxidation reaction plays a crucial role in safe
removing of dangerous hydrogen from the nuclear reactor area, where passive autocatalytic
recombiners (PARs) are used.

The Influence Of Dance In Havana
To begin, I think it is important to discuss my background and why it fueled my interest in taking
Salsa I. I am originally from The Bahamas but my mother and her side of the family is Cuban.
Growing up, we would spend the entire summer and all of Christmas break staying at my
grandmother's departamento en Kilometro Cerro, Havana. Historically, Cerro was flooded with
wealthy families from the countryside who loved to spend their summer time there. Recently, as of
2016, it is ranked as "one of Havana's poorest municipal barrios" (Larsson). Cerro morphed from the
economic epicenter of Havana to a place where taxis rarely frequent. Culturally however, my
mother's neighborhood has yet to dwindle in its cultural fervor. I would see my mother, my cousins,
the neighbors (who are more like tiós to me) crowding the already small avenida dancing con

the persons are dancing in the hills of Guantanamo or en el pasillo del Malecón, their bodies are the

from this observation is how is one able to tap into that essence and understanding? Does

Palladium Catalysis: the Suzuki Reaction
SC/CHEM 3001 3.0 Experimental Chemistry II Experiment A4: Palladium Catalysis: The Suzuki
Reaction Abstract In this experiment, the Suzuki reaction was performed using phenylboronic acid,
p–iodophenol and Pd/C catalysis in potassium carbonate aqueous media to synthesize biphenyl–4–
ol. The yield of final product was only 11.94% and the measured melting point was 170–175℃.
Since the appearance of the product was significantly different from expected light tan color and the
measured melting point was higher than literature value, the experimental synthesized product may
not be the desire final product, biphenyl–4–ol, or may contain large amount of impurities.

The development of a new catalytic system without use of stabilizing phosphine ligands in aqueous
media under milder conditions has drawn more attention.3 Pd/C is one of the most common
heterogeneous palladium–catalyst which is convenient, phosphine–free and reusable and can be
used in aqueous media under mild condition.3 During this experiment, a Pd/C catalyzed Sukuzi
reaction was conducted using phenylboronic acid and p–iodophenol. The basic aqueous media was
provided by potassium carbonate. When mixed phenylboronic acid and p–iodophenol, a yellow
solution was observed. The added Pd/C suspension stayed at the bottom of the flask. When cooled
the flask containing reaction mixture to room temperature after 30 minutes reflux, white thin layer
was formed upon the mixture. Filtered the reaction mixture by suction, a white/greyish solid was
collected in the filter paper. Recrystallized this solid, white solids were obtained with a close
melting point to that of final product. The NMR spectrum of this solid also showed the aromatic
peaks. This solid was suggested as an intermediate of reaction, mostly likely ArOH–Pd–Ar in
reductive elimination. Since a ligandless palladium catalyst was used in this reaction, a
transformation from trans complex to required cis complecx was unnecessary. The unreacted
intermediate may be left on the filter paper. This complex contained two phenyl groups which gave
the aromatic peak in NMR spectrum. Because of the presence of the

Palladium Doors, Inc
Identifying the problem: * Palladium Door, Inc wants to increase its sales goal to $12.5 million for
2004 which represent a 36% increases in sales over projected 2003 year–end sales.
* During the planning process, a number of fellow executives had voiced concern over whether
distribution approach used by Palladium Door was appropriate for the expended sales goal. Richard
Hawley is the director of sales and marketing felt that their concerns had merit and should be given
careful consideration. Though he had considerable latitude in devising the distribution strategy, the
final choice would have o be consistent with achieving the 2004 sales goal. His approach and action

It's about development of a formal exclusive franchise program, since 27 nonexclusive dealers had
posted such a possibility in the last year. Each of these dealers represented a different market, and
each of these markets was considered to have a high potential and be a candidate for the new
advertising and promotion program.
Pros: * The company would drop present dealers in their markets and not add new dealers. * The
program could be implemented during the traditionally slow quarter of the upcoming year. (quick
implementation) * The franchise program in these 27 markets could be served by the advertising and
promotion program. * The other 50 markets served by exclusive dealers wouldn't be affected, since
the advertising and promotion program was already budgeted for these dealers. * The remaining 73
markets would also be unaffected except for increased advertising in 23 high potential markets.
Cons: * Dropping nonexclusive and focusing more on exclusive dealers, as they produced 70% of
company sales. * Losing a part of market.

Our current aim is to make more "green" industries by searching for ways to make better yields and
little to no waste at all. One of the major blocks scientists have run into is the reactivity of cabon–
hydrogen bonds, which is needed to form new molecules. In order for these bonds to work, carbon–
hydrogen bonds need to be served. Previously, this has required dangerous reagents, and little was
yielded when the reaction was over. Now, there are different ways to achieve this goal. If the right
catalyst is given, it is now possible to form carbon–to–carbon bonds from activating carbon–
hydrogen bonds. This reaction is called dehydrogenate cross–coupling, has to be catalyzed before
the process can begin, and there are three categories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The challenge is to identify the strategies so scientists can form organ–metal intermediates in a mild
condition, and to also discover different methods for these organ–metal intermediates' subsequent
functionalisation in order to expand this area. This presents an exciting challenge for chemists since
it might be the ultimate synthetic transformation. Currently, interest has taken over in developing an
intramolecular carbon–carbon bond that ends up forming reactions catalyzed by transition metals,
and research for this focuses on the activation of carbon–hydrogen bonds. There are a number of
functional groups that may be capable of certain carbon–hydrogen activation. With this comes
developing strategies that involve steroinduction, complexity generating reactions, and carbon–
carbon bonding formation processes. However, to efficiently identify possible new processes,
parallel screening techniques enable scientists to preform and monitor these reactions. The new
discovery and development process can be now be accelerated, which leads to a new optimized
transformation faster. This activation bond, carbon–hydrogen, is currently at the edge of synthetic
organic chemistry. Carbon–hydrogen activation allows the chemist to perform unexpected
disconnection, and it enables synthetic strategies. Over the past thirty years, the Heck reaction has
become a fundamental metal catalyzed carbon–carbon bond, which is able to form the process for
the synthesis of molecules that

Precious Metals Research Paper
Precious metals do not have their own group on the periodic table. They are arranged together on the
table. These elements do have the same chemical properties, however they do not have their own
classification. All of these metals do not rust, they are resistant to oxidation and corrosion and they
only break down when they are in high temperatures. Gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt),
ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), iridium (Ir), and osmium (Os) all have similar
properties and are considered to be precious metals.1

Platinum was discovered by Antonio de Ulloa in 1735. Ulloa established the first mineralogy lab in
Spain and was the first to study platinum. Platinum was first recognized as an element in 1774 when
Charles Wood isolated the ore with aqua regia. Then the pure form of platinum was found in the
residue. However, there were more than one substance that was unknown in the residue. Hippolyte–
Victor Collet–Descotils believed that there was an unidentified metals that caused the red color of
some platinum salts. In 1803, William Hyde Wollaston investigated this by first dissolving the crude
platinum ore in aqua regia. Then he was able to get to the platinum metal by dissolving the solution
in ammonium chloride. The liquid which remained had properties which matched no known
substance. Wollaston named it Rhodium. This was not the last element that Wollaston discovered
that year. He used aqua regia to dissolve the platinum ore and isolated

consumption of finished jewelry. Russia is not just characterized by commodity orientation; it has
all the elements of the diamond pipeline, from the richest diamond reserves in the ground and to a
multitude of existing and potential customers.
To sum up, in 2010 the Russian market is estimated as $ 3 billion on raw materials, $ 1.2 billion on
diamonds and $3 billion on ready precious jewelry.

Oedipus Guile In The Odyssey
Odysseus, son of Laertes and Anticlea, was one of the most intelligent heroes in Greek and Roman
Mythology. His shrewd personality allowed for him to use his wits and his guile to win battles and
the Trojan War (the Greek army didn't win just because of Odysseus, his sharp mind helped them
win). On many accounts, Odysseus' astute nature is revealed; for example, when the Greek army
was reaching the shores of Troy, he remembered that an oracle told him that the first person to step
on the soil of Troy would perish first, so he then threw his shield across onto the shores of Troy and
jumped on his shield while not touching the ground; he waited and saw that Protesilaus was the first
to touch the ground, therefore, Protesilaus was going to die ... Show more content on

cause of the death of all of his men and was the cause of Odysseus' horrible ten year long journey to
reach Ithaca and his family, for Poseidon didn't forget and forgive Odysseus' for what he had done to
his son, Polyphemus. Also, Odysseus' ability to lie and cheat his way out of many situations proves
to be an immoral quality of his although this ability saves him at

Reducing Toxic Emissions with a Catalytic Converter
Figure–1 shows an image of a three way catalytic converter block diagram that is comprised of two
types of catalysts. Whereby these catalysts don't take place in any reactions happening but only
triggers them. The diagram shows how less harmful gases are produced to the atmosphere by the
reduction catalyst and oxidation catalyst.
The three way catalytic converter uses two stages to accomplish the process of reducing toxic
emissions, the first stage takes place on the reduction catalyst. The second stage of the process
happens on the oxidation catalyst. Platinum and rhodium are the metals used for the reduction
catalyst and oxidation catalyst uses platinum and palladium. The use of rhodium is very important
because it enhances the purification of the gases to be emitted since palladium does not perform well
in the purification process.
Automobile converters reheat the gases (Nitrogen gas, Carbon Dioxide, Hydro carbons, Water
vapor, Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon monoxide) that are already heated by the vehicle's exhaust at
about 350°C and 650°C. A ceramic honey comb structure is used for both catalysts; this can be seen
in Figure–2. The main reason for specifically using ceramic honey combs is because it increases the
surface area, so that when a thin coating of the platinum group metals is used it can spread on a large
area. Another reason is to make sure that pressure gradients are reduced and therefore the area of the
honey comb be compacted.

The Importance Of The Palladium Ballroom
Landmarks offer valuable insights into the values of the community, indicating what pieces of their
heritage retains the most significance. When a group of people leave their birthplace, it becomes a
necessity for them to preserve pieces of that which remind them of home. Such is the case for Latin
Americans with the Palladium Ballroom. Located above a drugstore on the corner of 53rd and
Broadway, there is nothing left of the Palladium Ballroom. It was once a popular Latino/a dance
hall, and became known as "the home of the mambo" (McMains, http://palladium–
mambo.com/ballroom.shtml). The mambo, popularized in the 1940s and 50s bears little resemblance
to the basic steps of the modern day bastardization. However, before exploring the details of the
ballroom it is necessary to note the history and cultural significance of it to the New York Latin
American community. In the aftermath of World War II, an influx of immigrants from Latin
American countries found themselves traversing from their homelands to the unknown and heavily
idealized United States of America. Cuba was one of the countries that sent the most immigrants to
America, contributing to a cultural and socioeconomic change to the environment around Palladium.

Commodities Strategy: Grains and Gains
Alternative Asset Management Alternative Assessment Commodities Strategy: Grains and Gains
Overview: Commodities futures act as a way to speculate on the value of a commodity before it is
brought into market. Reacting heavily with global macro events, commodities can be volatile and
can result in great gains as well as great losses. Pricing of each commodity is directly related with
supply and demand. Commodities also offer the opportunity to buy a good without having intrinsic
value attached. With a stock there is an added value from brand name or the name of the producer as
Karl Marx says, ""From the taste of wheat it is not possible to tell who produced it, a Russian serf, a
French peasant or an English capitalist." (Marx). The commodities market features items ranging
from Precious Metals to Agriculture as well Commodity Basket ETFs. One can diversify by
investing in Gold, Silver, Soybeans, Cattle, Hogs, Crude Oil, and so on. Global Market Overview:

The Pollution Of The Air Pollution
1. INTRODUCTION
The air pollution is the main issue which is debated among the environmentalists over a decades and
recent years. As the technology keep on progressing and emerging, it carries along undesirable
effects apart from its broad application and use. One of the main contributors is said to be the
emission of harmful gases produced by vehicle exhaust lines. The number of vehicles miles travels
per year continues to increase as a result of higher demand and needs. Consequently, an increase in
the number led to the increase of the content of pollutants in air. The need to control engine
emissions was recognized as early as 1909. Due to the more strict rules and emission standards,
automotive manufacturers begun to develop a treatment device for exhaust gases known as catalytic
converter for their vehicle models, pollution generated from mobile sources such as automobiles
contributes major air quality problems in rural as well as urban and industrialized areas in both
developed and developing countries. About 50 million cars are produced every year and over 700
million cars are used worldwide. Vehicle population is projected to grow close to 1300 million by
the year 2030.Most vehicular transportation relies on combustion of gasoline, diesel and jet fuels
with large amount of emission of carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen
oxides (NOx) and particulates matter (PM) are especially concern. [2] A catalytic converter is an

Radiation and chemotherapy may only partially penetrate a tumor; remaining malignant tissue will
allow the cancer to reoccur within the patient. Incomplete tumor removal is a risk associated with
surgical removal of cancerous tissue.3 Additionally, studies have shown that radiation promotes
cancerous cell growth. Radiation promotes a cellular process known as autophagy, which supports
metabolic functions while a cell is living with some sort of environmental stress. Typically, the cell
will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules.
This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell,
autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Once the cell has become
malignant, it is living under environmentally stress induced by hypoxia and nutrient depletion.
Malignant cells are dependent of autophagy for survival, and radiation promotes autophagy; this,
radiation promotes cancer.4 Current cancer treatments have high risks of harsh side effects and a
high probability of reoccurring cancer. There is an urgent need for new anticancer therapies;
compounds derived from the natural products of bacteria and fungi have been investigated as a
possible solution. The natural product industry gained popularity around1970–1980 and the primary

with women – particularly necklaces and bracelets. It is very likely however that men 's jewelry
existed before women began adorning themselves. Custom men 's jewelry existed during the Stone

concern whether the current distribution strategy used by Palladium would be adequate to achieve
the goal. Although Palladium's growth has been steady over the past 10 years the market share was

because they had to attain a larger sales volume to preserve its buying position with suppliers.

Several executives did not want to change either the distribution strategy or the dealers, but rather
look internally on how to do a better job with the current distribution channel.
Recommendations: It would seem very favorable for Palladium to implement alternative 2 of
developing the franchise program. The addition of 27 exclusive dealers would definitely increase
sales and out of the 3 alternatives, it provides the least increase in cost and/or the largest increase in
sales. So in order for Hawly to meet his goal of $12.5 million With the exclusive dealers in place
they can improve the brand image also. By adding the 20% budget they can increase the very low

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gold And Platinum
Claire Kaneshiro Homeroom 9B October 10th, 2017 The Benefits and Disadvantages Use of Gold
and Platinum Alloys to Replace Nickel Containing Alloys in Jewelry Nickel is a common metal
used to produce alloys for jewelry, yet nickel allergy is prevalent, affecting approximately 30% of
the population (Rothenberg). For those with the allergy, nickel causes an immunological
hypersensitivity response on the area of contact, resulting in symptoms of dermatitis. Although,
nickel is not a classic allergen, as it doesn't cause the body to produce excess antibodies (IgE) that
prompt cellular production of chemicals inducing the reaction. Instead, studies show that nickel
itself can act as a stimulator of the cells, activating the expression of dendritic (immune system
signaling cells in the skin) and endothelial cells (blood vessel walls). Nickel is an inorganic activator
of the receptors in these cells and has been shown to bridge connection between receptors. That,
when activated, release intracellular signals prompting the production of inflammatory cytokines
(signaling molecules) activating immune responses (Rothenberg). The body reacts to the produced
chemicals with inflammation, redness, and swelling. Nickel is most common among the heavy
metals for eliciting this reaction, therefore, alternative hypoallergenic metals exist which retain the
properties necessary to replace nickel. For jewelry, gold has historically been favored for its
malleability and other properties

Mad Scientists and Mad Elements Essay
We all know the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." Similarly, every element in the periodic
table has its' own story and its' own unique meaning. However, the average high schooler simply
associates these elements as something used in their chemistry classes. In fact, the elements seen on
the periodic table actually have much more to do in our daily lives and in history than most people
know. While giving a whole new perspective to the meaning of Chemistry, author Sam Kean
successfully recounts the hidden tales through humor and wit in his bestselling novel The

Roentgen performed many tests, including his colleagues' discoveries, which involved painting the
plates with a barium compound. When the plates were held in front of an object, Roentgen was able
to see through whatever he was holding up. Inevitably, he was astonished by this discovery and
immediately suspected that he had gone mad. As readers now, one finds his reaction to the first
traces of x–ray quite humorous. In fact, this tale is certainly one where the ending is not detrimental,
and in contrary the happy opposite. Essentially, Kean focuses on the idea that these certain elements
mentioned in the chapter affected the lives of these mad scientists immensely. For the most part,
these elements hurt the careers and lives of some scientists, however this was not the case in all of
the stories in this chapter. The examples of selenium–crazed Crookes, the false hype of the
manganese–covered megadaltons, the palladium scandal of Pons and Fleischmann and the startling
discovery of the x–ray by Roentgen successfully conveyed the central theme and concepts. It is very
easy for someone to understand the context–filled stories and how they connect to what Kean is
trying to establish. Additionally, the author generally maintains a balanced bias throughout the
chapter. However, with the story of Pons and Fleischmann, one can really sense Kean's negative
attitude to these two scientists. He describes the pair as "impostors, swindlers, and cheats" (263) as

The Image-Maker: Difficult Process Of Film Photography
The image–maker may feel that by printing their film photographs using a gruelingly difficult
process, their work is given a different level of credibility, which makes it feel closer to art, or
printmaking, as it relies on skills beyond composing and taking the image. Since it has become so
easy to take an image on a digital camera and print it out using an inkjet printer, many
photographers are turning back to film photography and historical printing processes to provide a
unique edge to their work, a more creative effort. Some photographers are combining both digital
techniques with historical processes, hooting on film and scanning in the negatives to digitally alter
and print, or printing digital images onto negatives or acetate to work with in the darkroom, creating
a unique image. It is still expensive to process prints in the darkroom, not only because there are a
limited number of darkrooms around the world, but also because the chemicals and apparatus
needed are expensive. Kits are available for purchase and contain all the chemicals and other
equipment needed to produce prints, with all sorts of different processing kits available. These may
be easier to start up processing; however they are still expensive. Photographs printed using historic
printing processes have a special allure, each is a unique image handmade with precise
measurements and timings, no two images the same. This could be why they are an asset to any

Gennett Record Case Study

  • 1. Gennett Record Case Study On October 3, 1993, the Palladium–Item asked the citizens of Richmond, Indiana to clip a coupon and answer a pressing question: Should we "Save or Raze" it? The remaining buildings in the Whitewater Gorge, better known to locals as Starr Valley, was the it in question. Starr Valley was a twenty–five acre industrial complex that was once home to both the Starr Piano Company and Gennett Records. Starr Piano was one of the largest manufacturers of pianos in the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Gennett Records was one of the first independent record labels, founded in 1915. They were amongst the first companies to release American vernacular forms of music, such as jazz, blues, country, and gospel. The site, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1980s, several local citizens, many who worked at Starr Piano or for the Gennett family explored ways to preserve and commemorate the historic and finally created a not for profit organization, the Starr–Gennett Foundation. Their initial goals and plans called for a museum to be built in Starr Valley and the remaining buildings preserved. Several factors, including funding and local indifference, cause the Foundation to seek other paths to preservation and interpretation. They arrived at a plan to repurpose the remaining building into an events venue and turn the site into a Greenway. Additionally, the foundation installed historic interpretation markers and a "Walk of Fame." Each September, the foundation inducts new musicians into the Walk of Fame and promotes several concerts and community events to celebrate and acknowledge this story. But it is still developed as a local celebration, largely due to funding challenges and being run by an all–volunteer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Metal Catalyzed Carbon Recently metal–catalyzed carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom cross–coupling reactions have been developed as an important reaction class in chemical synthesis.1 Nowadays, there is a variety of competitive methods for synthesis of aryl–nucleophile bonds with various sources of C–, O–, N–, P–, and S–nucleophiles.1–5 Researchers have extensively applied palladium–based catalysts in cross–coupling reactions in both academic and industrial settings,5, 6 however, our goal is the development of a range of copper–based catalysts for cross–coupling reactions. Copper–assisted Sonogashira–type coupling reactions are valuable transformations for organic synthesis. C–C bond formation between aryl halides and terminal aryl– and alkyl–alkynes affords the corresponding substituted internal alkynes. Alkynes are the building blocks of a wide range of pharmaceuticals, natural products, biologically active molecules, conducting polymers, nonlinear, optical and liquid crystal materials.7–12 The routine reaction method for Sonogashira–type coupling is the use of a palladium–based catalyst and a copper(I) salt as a co–catalyst.13 The role of the copper co–catalyst is to produce a copper–acetylide intermediate that subsequently transmetallates to the palladium center. In recent years, many different catalytic systems including copper–free palladium–based catalysts have been applied for this reaction,14, 15 but the use of effective palladium–free systems would obviously be much more interesting in ... • 5. Synthesis and Ir Analysis of... Synthesis and IR Analysis of trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)] Abstract In this lab we synthesized trans–[Bis(inosinato) palladium(II)] for IR analysis. After completion of the reaction 84.4% of the product was collected. IR spectrum of the product and inosine was analyzed to determine how the inosine is bonded to the metal, palladium. From the IR analysis, it was determined that when inosine reacts with palladium, a shift of about 65 cm–1 in the carbonyl stretch was observed. Introduction: In this experiment, trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)], was synthesized. The general reaction equation for the reaction is shown below: KOH (1) K2[PdCl4] + 2 inosine trans–[Pd(inosine–H+)2] + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A total of 1.5 mL was added to produce a pH of around 6. The mixture was stirred for an additional 30 minutes. The light yellow precipitate was collected by suction filtration using a Hirsch funnel. The product was washed with two 1–mL portions of cold methanol followed by two 1–mL portions of diethyl ether. The product was dried in the oven at 110°C. The IR spectrum as a KBr pellet was obtained for the product and inosine for analysis. Results and Discussion: After completion of the reaction, the percent yield was collected for the product and is shown in Table 1. Synthesis of the yellow solid Trans–[Bis(inosinato)palladium(II)] was 84.4%. Table 1. • 12. Catalytic Converter Failure Today's newer vehicles come equipped with a catalytic converter. Designed to reduce emissions, the catalytic converter is an important part of your vehicle. Unfortunately, like anything else mechanical, the catalytic converter can break and fail. Luckily, you can reduce the amount of damage a failing catalytic converter causes by knowing the warning signs. So what are some symptoms that indicate your catalytic converter is failing? Here are three. 1. Reduced Acceleration and Engine Performance Perhaps one of the most noticeable signs that your catalytic converter is having issues is reduced acceleration and engine performance. Since the catalytic converter is built into the exhaust system, it can easily affect your engine. If the converter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this will affect the performance of your vehicle, it's more likely that you'll notice the leak first. After all, a leak is prominent. If you believe your catalytic converter is leaking, be sure to look for oil or transmission fluid. If you notice a leak, be sure to look at the converter casing for signs of damage. 2. Unusual Rattling Noise Another symptom that your catalytic converter is damaged is an unusual rattling noise. In general, your vehicle shouldn't make any odd or loud noises. If you do begin to hear a rattling sound, it's likely that the meshes inside the converter are breaking. As these tiny pieces break, they cause a rattling sound. As you might expect, this sound will continue to get worse over time as the converter deteriorates. So if you hear this sound, get it addressed quickly to prevent serious damages to your vehicle. 3. Pungent Exhaust Odors Exhaust isn't pleasant to smell. However, if may become worse or much more noticeable when the catalytic converter begins to fail. As fuel builds up in your converter, it will begin to burn and produce a strong odor. Unfortunately, this can make your vehicle very dangerous as fuel and gases make your vehicle more prone to fires. So if you smell anything unusual or pungent when driving your vehicle, get it looked at as soon as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. A Brief Note On Trading Strategy Trading Strategy As a portfolio Manager, my goal was to increase the portfolio value using a trading strategy that combines speculation and diversification (Refer figure 1 in the appendix). As a speculator, I would be betting on the movement of the underlying asset therefore, it was essential that I diversify my holdings to minimize the exposure. A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against the downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were Futures contract and Stocks. Again, the goal was to diversify within both vehicle types to protect against the exposure (Refer figure 2 and 3). Portfolio Holdings  Futures Contract:  Long Platinum April 2016: Platinum is one of the industrious precious metals and because of its unique properties it has become a popular trading asset. It is largely used in the auto industry and auto industry has been experiencing a boom; which is why platinum prices have been rising steadily. Platinum is also great investing option and it is cheaper than gold.  Long Soybean Oil March 2016: Increasing populations and developing economies have contributed to an ongoing increase in food demand, thus broadly raising the prices of most agricultural commodities over the past few years. "The price of soybean futures has been rising since early 2009, while the long–term outlook is favorable as well" . Furthermore, the oils are commonly used for cooking and also play a key role in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Pd Ni / Al2o3 Systems Pd–Ni/Al2O3 systems were investigated in the reaction of hydrogen oxidation in terms of their possible application as catalysts used in passive autocatalytic recombiners (PARs) used in nuclear power plants. Testing experiments, were carried out in a flowing system at different temperatures and humidity of the reaction mixture. The bimetallic catalysts exhibited higher response to the increase of temperature and higher resistance to inhibiting water than the monometallic palladium catalyst. They showed excellent stability during a few tens of hours, similarly, like their monometallic counterpart. Our bimetallic catalysts of hydrogen oxidation can be used as cheaper alternatives to catalysts based on the precious metals in the hydrogen oxidation without loss of their activity over time. Keywords: palladium, palladium–nickel, catalyst, hydrogen oxidation INTRODUCTION The vital component of zircaloy, the construction material of the nuclear reactor equipment, is zirconium. This element is characterized by very low absorption of thermal neutrons and has high corrosion resistance, however at higher temperatures it reacts with water forming hydrogen. Hydrogen causes hydrogen embrittlement of fuel cladding for long lasting exposure and the risk of an explosion during the reactor overheating. Hydrogen oxidation reaction plays a crucial role in safe removing of dangerous hydrogen from the nuclear reactor area, where passive autocatalytic recombiners (PARs) are used. It is well known ... • 20. The Influence Of Dance In Havana To begin, I think it is important to discuss my background and why it fueled my interest in taking Salsa I. I am originally from The Bahamas but my mother and her side of the family is Cuban. Growing up, we would spend the entire summer and all of Christmas break staying at my grandmother's departamento en Kilometro Cerro, Havana. Historically, Cerro was flooded with wealthy families from the countryside who loved to spend their summer time there. Recently, as of 2016, it is ranked as "one of Havana's poorest municipal barrios" (Larsson). Cerro morphed from the economic epicenter of Havana to a place where taxis rarely frequent. Culturally however, my mother's neighborhood has yet to dwindle in its cultural fervor. I would see my mother, my cousins, the neighbors (who are more like tiós to me) crowding the already small avenida dancing con tremenda calidiad y con tremenda sabrosura to Son, Rumba or whatever the neighbors happened to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dance is used to retell stories, illustrate their understandings of man's relationship to nature, demonstrate their understanding of life in a way that could not be orally or textually passed down as our African ancestors were denied that right. With the dance, a story is always being told. Even if the persons are dancing in the hills of Guantanamo or en el pasillo del Malecón, their bodies are the vessels through which a story is being told–new or passed down. A question of mine that resulted from this observation is how is one able to tap into that essence and understanding? Does commercialized Salsa offer this entry point for dancers who wish to extra–culturally participate and assume this, what I believe to be, intra–cultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Palladium Catalysis: the Suzuki Reaction SC/CHEM 3001 3.0 Experimental Chemistry II Experiment A4: Palladium Catalysis: The Suzuki Reaction Abstract In this experiment, the Suzuki reaction was performed using phenylboronic acid, p–iodophenol and Pd/C catalysis in potassium carbonate aqueous media to synthesize biphenyl–4– ol. The yield of final product was only 11.94% and the measured melting point was 170–175℃. Since the appearance of the product was significantly different from expected light tan color and the measured melting point was higher than literature value, the experimental synthesized product may not be the desire final product, biphenyl–4–ol, or may contain large amount of impurities. Introduction The Suzuki reaction was reported in 1979 by Akira Suzuki ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of a new catalytic system without use of stabilizing phosphine ligands in aqueous media under milder conditions has drawn more attention.3 Pd/C is one of the most common heterogeneous palladium–catalyst which is convenient, phosphine–free and reusable and can be used in aqueous media under mild condition.3 During this experiment, a Pd/C catalyzed Sukuzi reaction was conducted using phenylboronic acid and p–iodophenol. The basic aqueous media was provided by potassium carbonate. When mixed phenylboronic acid and p–iodophenol, a yellow solution was observed. The added Pd/C suspension stayed at the bottom of the flask. When cooled the flask containing reaction mixture to room temperature after 30 minutes reflux, white thin layer was formed upon the mixture. Filtered the reaction mixture by suction, a white/greyish solid was collected in the filter paper. Recrystallized this solid, white solids were obtained with a close melting point to that of final product. The NMR spectrum of this solid also showed the aromatic peaks. This solid was suggested as an intermediate of reaction, mostly likely ArOH–Pd–Ar in reductive elimination. Since a ligandless palladium catalyst was used in this reaction, a transformation from trans complex to required cis complecx was unnecessary. The unreacted intermediate may be left on the filter paper. This complex contained two phenyl groups which gave the aromatic peak in NMR spectrum. Because of the presence of the ... Palladium Doors, Inc Identifying the problem: * Palladium Door, Inc wants to increase its sales goal to $12.5 million for 2004 which represent a 36% increases in sales over projected 2003 year–end sales. * During the planning process, a number of fellow executives had voiced concern over whether distribution approach used by Palladium Door was appropriate for the expended sales goal. Richard Hawley is the director of sales and marketing felt that their concerns had merit and should be given careful consideration. Each of these dealers represented a different market, and each of these markets was considered to have a high potential and be a candidate for the new advertising and promotion program. Pros: * The company would drop present dealers in their markets and not add new dealers. * The program could be implemented during the traditionally slow quarter of the upcoming year. (quick implementation) * The franchise program in these 27 markets could be served by the advertising and promotion program. * The other 50 markets served by exclusive dealers wouldn't be affected, since the advertising and promotion program was already budgeted for these dealers. * The remaining 73 markets would also be unaffected except for increased advertising in 23 high potential markets. One of the major blocks scientists have run into is the reactivity of cabon– hydrogen bonds, which is needed to form new molecules. In order for these bonds to work, carbon– hydrogen bonds need to be served. Previously, this has required dangerous reagents, and little was yielded when the reaction was over. Now, there are different ways to achieve this goal. If the right catalyst is given, it is now possible to form carbon–to–carbon bonds from activating carbon– hydrogen bonds. This reaction is called dehydrogenate cross–coupling, has to be catalyzed before the process can begin, and there are three categories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The challenge is to identify the strategies so scientists can form organ–metal intermediates in a mild condition, and to also discover different methods for these organ–metal intermediates' subsequent functionalisation in order to expand this area. This presents an exciting challenge for chemists since it might be the ultimate synthetic transformation. Currently, interest has taken over in developing an intramolecular carbon–carbon bond that ends up forming reactions catalyzed by transition metals, and research for this focuses on the activation of carbon–hydrogen bonds. There are a number of functional groups that may be capable of certain carbon–hydrogen activation. With this comes developing strategies that involve steroinduction, complexity generating reactions, and carbon– carbon bonding formation processes. However, to efficiently identify possible new processes, parallel screening techniques enable scientists to preform and monitor these reactions. The new discovery and development process can be now be accelerated, which leads to a new optimized transformation faster. This activation bond, carbon–hydrogen, is currently at the edge of synthetic organic chemistry. Carbon–hydrogen activation allows the chemist to perform unexpected disconnection, and it enables synthetic strategies. Over the past thirty years, the Heck reaction has become a fundamental metal catalyzed carbon–carbon bond, which is able to form the process for the synthesis of molecules that ... These elements do have the same chemical properties, however they do not have their own classification. On many accounts, Odysseus' astute nature is revealed; for example, when the Greek army was reaching the shores of Troy, he remembered that an oracle told him that the first person to step on the soil of Troy would perish first, so he then threw his shield across onto the shores of Troy and jumped on his shield while not touching the ground; he waited and saw that Protesilaus was the first to touch the ground, therefore, Protesilaus was going to die ... • 45. Reducing Toxic Emissions with a Catalytic Converter Figure–1 shows an image of a three way catalytic converter block diagram that is comprised of two types of catalysts. Whereby these catalysts don't take place in any reactions happening but only triggers them. The diagram shows how less harmful gases are produced to the atmosphere by the reduction catalyst and oxidation catalyst. The three way catalytic converter uses two stages to accomplish the process of reducing toxic emissions, the first stage takes place on the reduction catalyst. The second stage of the process happens on the oxidation catalyst. Platinum and rhodium are the metals used for the reduction catalyst and oxidation catalyst uses platinum and palladium. The use of rhodium is very important because it enhances the purification of the gases to be emitted since palladium does not perform well in the purification process. Automobile converters reheat the gases (Nitrogen gas, Carbon Dioxide, Hydro carbons, Water vapor, Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon monoxide) that are already heated by the vehicle's exhaust at about 350°C and 650°C. A ceramic honey comb structure is used for both catalysts; this can be seen in Figure–2. The main reason for specifically using ceramic honey combs is because it increases the surface area, so that when a thin coating of the platinum group metals is used it can spread on a large area. Another reason is to make sure that pressure gradients are reduced and therefore the area of the honey comb be compacted. The first stage of Figure–1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Located above a drugstore on the corner of 53rd and Broadway, there is nothing left of the Palladium Ballroom. It was once a popular Latino/a dance hall, and became known as "the home of the mambo" (McMains, http://palladium– mambo.com/ballroom.shtml). The mambo, popularized in the 1940s and 50s bears little resemblance to the basic steps of the modern day bastardization. However, before exploring the details of the ballroom it is necessary to note the history and cultural significance of it to the New York Latin American community. In the aftermath of World War II, an influx of immigrants from Latin American countries found themselves traversing from their homelands to the unknown and heavily idealized United States of America. • 53. The Pollution Of The Air Pollution 1. INTRODUCTION The air pollution is the main issue which is debated among the environmentalists over a decades and recent years. As the technology keep on progressing and emerging, it carries along undesirable effects apart from its broad application and use. One of the main contributors is said to be the emission of harmful gases produced by vehicle exhaust lines. The number of vehicles miles travels per year continues to increase as a result of higher demand and needs. Consequently, an increase in the number led to the increase of the content of pollutants in air. The need to control engine emissions was recognized as early as 1909. Due to the more strict rules and emission standards, automotive manufacturers begun to develop a treatment device for exhaust gases known as catalytic converter for their vehicle models, pollution generated from mobile sources such as automobiles contributes major air quality problems in rural as well as urban and industrialized areas in both developed and developing countries. About 50 million cars are produced every year and over 700 million cars are used worldwide. Vehicle population is projected to grow close to 1300 million by the year 2030.Most vehicular transportation relies on combustion of gasoline, diesel and jet fuels with large amount of emission of carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates matter (PM) are especially concern. Incomplete tumor removal is a risk associated with surgical removal of cancerous tissue.3 Additionally, studies have shown that radiation promotes cancerous cell growth. Radiation promotes a cellular process known as autophagy, which supports metabolic functions while a cell is living with some sort of environmental stress. Typically, the cell will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules. This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell, autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Once the cell has become malignant, it is living under environmentally stress induced by hypoxia and nutrient depletion. He fell back on the deck and clung to his new found friend who now used his chest as a pillow. Being deprived of a mother, this was the first time he felt any real affection for a female. It was a new and different experience for him. Although she closed her eyes, she did not sleep. She reviewed the day's events. "I was preparing the Palladium for the trip back to Athens when mayhem consumed the Ravenna. My negotiations with the city's leaders were a success." She mulled them over. "My Pentecost, with troop of hoplites was to take me back to Athens. Now I am a captive of this very likeable king who also wanted the Palladium." Her thoughts continued. "Why didn't he just try to ransom the Palladium, rather than butchering the temple guardians and robbing Athena's Temple. That was a sacrilege. I hope Athena's vengeance won't be too merciless. I am beginning to like this gentle King but I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I am Aphrodite. I will guide you and let you know when you have arrived! Like your great grandfather, Aeneas, you have a destiny to fulfill!" Then she turned and looked at Ignoge and mused, "She is beautiful isn't she? That's because she looks something like me! Almost as beautiful as I am. Take care of her!" Brutus burst into full consciousness. Aphrodite was gone! He looked at Ignoge then at Capetus on the afterdeck and fell back into a deep restful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Combining these two certainties with historic low interest rates and home values that have been appreciating in many parts of the country make investing in real estate an attractive alternative to traditional investments. Good credit and a little cash or leverage are all that is needed to become a real estate investor. Some investors look for short–term gains in real estate by flipping rundown houses. Cash is needed in order to make the renovations to rehab the house. Getting a mortgage for houses that are not a primary residence can be difficult and potential investors could be competing against cash ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the last decade, more investors have been jumping on the classic–car bandwagon, buying antiques and otherwise prized automobiles. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gold And Platinum Claire Kaneshiro Homeroom 9B October 10th, 2017 The Benefits and Disadvantages Use of Gold and Platinum Alloys to Replace Nickel Containing Alloys in Jewelry Nickel is a common metal used to produce alloys for jewelry, yet nickel allergy is prevalent, affecting approximately 30% of the population (Rothenberg). For those with the allergy, nickel causes an immunological hypersensitivity response on the area of contact, resulting in symptoms of dermatitis. Although, nickel is not a classic allergen, as it doesn't cause the body to produce excess antibodies (IgE) that prompt cellular production of chemicals inducing the reaction. Instead, studies show that nickel itself can act as a stimulator of the cells, activating the expression of dendritic (immune system signaling cells in the skin) and endothelial cells (blood vessel walls). Nickel is an inorganic activator of the receptors in these cells and has been shown to bridge connection between receptors. That, when activated, release intracellular signals prompting the production of inflammatory cytokines (signaling molecules) activating immune responses (Rothenberg). The body reacts to the produced chemicals with inflammation, redness, and swelling. Nickel is most common among the heavy metals for eliciting this reaction, therefore, alternative hypoallergenic metals exist which retain the properties necessary to replace nickel. For jewelry, gold has historically been favored for its malleability and other properties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Mad Scientists and Mad Elements Essay We all know the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." Similarly, every element in the periodic table has its' own story and its' own unique meaning. However, the average high schooler simply associates these elements as something used in their chemistry classes. In fact, the elements seen on the periodic table actually have much more to do in our daily lives and in history than most people know. While giving a whole new perspective to the meaning of Chemistry, author Sam Kean successfully recounts the hidden tales through humor and wit in his bestselling novel The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of Elements. Specifically, Chapter 15, "An Element of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roentgen performed many tests, including his colleagues' discoveries, which involved painting the plates with a barium compound. When the plates were held in front of an object, Roentgen was able to see through whatever he was holding up. Inevitably, he was astonished by this discovery and immediately suspected that he had gone mad. As readers now, one finds his reaction to the first traces of x–ray quite humorous. In fact, this tale is certainly one where the ending is not detrimental, and in contrary the happy opposite. Essentially, Kean focuses on the idea that these certain elements mentioned in the chapter affected the lives of these mad scientists immensely. For the most part, these elements hurt the careers and lives of some scientists, however this was not the case in all of the stories in this chapter. The examples of selenium–crazed Crookes, the false hype of the manganese–covered megadaltons, the palladium scandal of Pons and Fleischmann and the startling discovery of the x–ray by Roentgen successfully conveyed the central theme and concepts. It is very easy for someone to understand the context–filled stories and how they connect to what Kean is trying to establish. Additionally, the author generally maintains a balanced bias throughout the chapter. However, with the story of Pons and Fleischmann, one can really sense Kean's negative attitude to these two scientists. He describes the pair as "impostors, swindlers, and cheats" (263) as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is second only to Achilles, whom he trained with under the teachings of the Centaur Chiron. Acknowledged throughout Greece for his awe–inspiring strength coupled with fast strategical offenses, he was sent to aid King Menelaus in the retrieval of his queen, Helen. Ajax was also one of Helen's previous suitors before her marriage to the King. Our class relates to this video because they talk a lot about community and being able to connect to another, I think our class connects us to others we generally would not associate with. They talk about when the Fania All Stars would perform the energy from both the stage and the audience was tremendous and people did not want to sit, I think this relates to our class because before the class even starts people are dancing trying to further perfect the way they dance. Our classroom reminds me of the Palladium Ballroom, we go to class expecting to dance and have a good time just like those who went to the Palladium. Our classroom is not as famous as the Palladium however, I believe that the class about the same impact on people. • 77. The Image-Maker: Difficult Process Of Film Photography The image–maker may feel that by printing their film photographs using a gruelingly difficult process, their work is given a different level of credibility, which makes it feel closer to art, or printmaking, as it relies on skills beyond composing and taking the image. Since it has become so easy to take an image on a digital camera and print it out using an inkjet printer, many photographers are turning back to film photography and historical printing processes to provide a unique edge to their work, a more creative effort. Some photographers are combining both digital techniques with historical processes, hooting on film and scanning in the negatives to digitally alter and print, or printing digital images onto negatives or acetate to work with in the darkroom, creating a unique image. It is still expensive to process prints in the darkroom, not only because there are a limited number of darkrooms around the world, but also because the chemicals and apparatus needed are expensive. Kits are available for purchase and contain all the chemicals and other equipment needed to produce prints, with all sorts of different processing kits available. These may be easier to start up processing; however they are still expensive. Photographs printed using historic printing processes have a special allure, each is a unique image handmade with precise measurements and timings, no two images the same. This could be why they are an asset to any family heritage, as their permanence is amazing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arentz uses two original banquet cameras to take his pictures. Essay On Eroia Concert On February 19, 2017, I attended one of the concerts in Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's (ISO) Telamon classical series, "Beethoven's Eroica" at the Palladium in Carmel. I went with the doctor I shadow as well as another student, his son, and a friend of Dr. Arthur. I was initially invited over to the Arthurs' to babysit so that his friend could attend the show but was told to dress nice in case there was a chance that I might go. When I arrived, Dr. Arthur changed his mind because he had extra tickets and said how we were going to commit a faux pas–we brought an eight–month old baby to the concert. We were seated in the box on the right side of the theatre and had a complete view of the orchestra. This was a Sunday afternoon and the Palladium was hardly filled. There were three concertos: Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Adams's Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E–flat Major, Op. 55 ("Eroica"). I attended this concert before learning of Beethoven in class, but Dr. Arthur still informed me of how Beethoven had originally written this concerto to honor Napoleon Bonaparte but had scratched out his ... The piece was not meant to please the audience, and understandingly so. I did not actually enjoy the music until Beethoven's "Eroica" began. The passages were in blended timbres and the instruments used were oboes, the French horn, English horn, and contrabassoon. The tonality was hard to distinguish as the sounds were all over the place including instrument solos. The overall dynamics of the concert ranged from mezzo piano to piano and then ended with ...
