This document summarizes the five generations of computers: 1) Vacuum tubes (1940-1956), 2) Transistors (1956-1963), 3) Integrated circuits (1964-1971), 4) Microprocessors (1972-2010), and 5) Artificial intelligence (2010-present). Each generation saw improvements in speed, size, cost and capabilities due to significant technological developments in components like transistors, integrated circuits and microprocessors that made computers more compact, powerful and efficient over time.
