Cognitive, personality and behavioural predictors of academic success in a la...Blackboard APAC
In recent years there has been growing interest in the use of e-learning tools that are able to adapt to suit the ability levels, needs, or preferences of individual learners. In this project we aim to test the utility of an adaptive e-learning study tool within the context of a large undergraduate Psychology course (approximately 700 students). The study tool and a number of associated summative tests are hosted on the course’s Blackboard Learning Management System. Pilot data indicates that students that use the tool perform significantly better on the summative tests compared to non-users (t[683] = 4.35, p <0.001). We examine the relationship in the context of 1) learning analytics data that can be obtained via Blackboard, and 2) a number of known psychological predictors of academic success.

The device aims to automatically direct light in the direction a car is turning to improve safety.
Front Wheel Steering System With Moveable HeadlightsSuchit Moon
This document describes different types of steering mechanisms used in vehicles, including rack and pinion steering, recirculating ball steering, and four-wheel steering systems. It also discusses power steering systems and how they work. The document then provides details on a proposed movable headlight device for cars that would automatically direct the headlights in the direction the car turns through the use of a rotating body, lever arms, and balance weights activated by centrifugal force.
Introduction of fast moving bikes in our country has disturbed the condition of Indian roads. Rash driving is the major concern with these bikes which has led to accidents all over. Today's generation which normally prefer super bikes (150cc or more) accounts for most of the accidents taking place in the country. Comparing previous census, the number of accidents taking place have increased drastically. Though bikes have high safety systems like disc brake, ABS, etc which can arrest the motion of wheel and stop the vehicle at any speeds, the problem here arises with pillion rider. When braking is applied at high speeds, the rear wheel is lifted up and bike comes to stoppie position and throws off the pillion rider from the vehicle. Pillion riders hardly wear helmet, thus it leads to serious injuries even leading to death. To minimize these kind of accidents, a special kind of shock absorber has been designed which absorbs shocks to greater extent. This shock absorber uses slider mechanism supported by springs placed beneath the rear seat. The rear seat is fitted with rollers which slide inside the rail, thus providing a slider motion. This slider motion is supported by springs of calculated stiffness which returns the roller to initial position after the action. When there is sudden breaking, deceleration is produced which brings the slider mechanism in action. The roller moves forward which leads to movement of seat forward and also the pillion rider. This pushes pillion rider forward rather than being thrown off from the vehicle. The spring plays a vital as it brings back the seat to initial position after the action is performed. Spring has another advantage as it reduces the shock produced during the movement of seat back and forth due to sudden breaking. Implementation of this method is easy as it requires slight customization in the rear seat. The rear seat is separated from driver's seat and slider mechanism is made beneath the rear seat. Setting up of this shock absorber is cheap and affordable.

mum riding pleasure in ten seconds
Speeds up not only your heart rate: This tricycle remarkably unfolds
into a good deal of riding pleasure. To enable you to carry the Gekko fx
quite compactly wherever you'd like to go, the engineers at HPVelotechnik
have equipped the nimble touring trike with an amazingly fast,easy-to-ope-
rate, sophisticated folding system.
Special feature: All components remain mounted on the trike – unli-
ke conventional folding trikes, in which the seat, wheels or rack must be
removed first and transported separately. HPVelotechnik's innovative Dual
Flat Fold (D.F.F.) system implements this on Gekko fx with just two quick
release levers. With little practice, you can fold your Gekko fx into a com-
pact size of 83x52x82 cm in ten seconds. See how it is done on the right.
Your advantage: After
the swift folding, the package
can be parked vertically to
save space. So you can carry
it easily along winding stair-
ways or pull it behind you on
the integrated transport
wheels.

frame construction of the
Gekko fx combines a secure
road holding with a sporty
handling, precise steering, low
weight and maximum accele-
ration.The frame cross mem-
ber elegantly curves to the

Folded dimensions: 83 cm wide, 52 cm deep, 82–116 cm tall (32¾x20½x82 1/3 – 45 2/3") (depending on front boom pullout and chain ring size). The front wheels can be easily removed with a bolt
each, then the width is only 73 cm and the folded package is even less bulky. HP Velotechnik’s innovative folding technology is patent pending at the German Patent office.
Folding trikes can be a easy as this: 1) Open the quick release lever behind the seat and fold the backrest forward. 2) Secure backrest on the frame cross member with the integratedVelcro
strap. 3) Open quick release lever on the folding joint at the frame center and simultaneously unlock the safety bolt against spring pressure and open the folding joint upward a bit.
4) Carry out the D.F.F.-Move: Place one hand on the front of the main frame tube, the other on the back of the seat stay. Lift frame and turn sideways and in a smooth motion fold the rear wheel
transversely below the frame. 5) Lock the rear end on the main frame with safety strap. 6) Set the compact package upright on the integrated foot stand. Experienced folders do it in 10 seconds.
Alternatively, you can proceed as follows after step 3, which takes a little more time: 4a) Tilt wheel to the side, so that it is supported on the right front tire. Swivel the rear end to the front.
5a) Lock the rear end on the main frame with safety strap. 6a) Set the compact package upright on the integrated foot stand.
Right picture: The basic Gekko
(without fx) features a separable frame
and can be broken down for transport
in just one minute to a space saving
103 x 58 x 83 cm (40 ½ x 22 ¾ x 32 2/3").
After removing the front wheels, the
packing size is reduced to 110 x 52 x
73 cm. (43 1/3 x 20 ½ x 28 2/3")
6. The HP VELOTECHNIK seat system creates an exemplary ergo-
nomic connection at the main interface between the rider and
the trike. The well-ventilated mesh seat of the Gekko is inte-
grated in the frame structure for maximum stability. The seat
features an anatomically shaped, adjustable reclining backrest
and a handy zippered pocket for your important little things.
Comfortable ergo handlebars under the seat.Wrists and neck muscles are
relieved. HP VELOTECHNIK's tried and tested steering geometry combines
smooth directional stability with impressive maneuverability. Solid bearing
with adjustable cartridge headset on the handlebar and maintenance-free sea-
led joint heads on the tie rods. The lightweight, high strength knuckles are
forged and CNC machined for maximum tracking stability. They are mounted
with durable, adjustable headsets rather outside on the frame.
The Gekko has a very safe braking action due to the low center of gravity and the long wheelbase.
The standard disc brakes ensure maximum braking power even in bad weather. The front wheels are
controlled separately so that you can selectively brake the inner wheel when cornering. Due to HP
VELOTECHNIK's sophisticated steering geometry, there is no effect on the steering when braking. On
request, we mount mechanically or hydraulically coupled front brakes with one-hand operation and a
V-brake on the rear wheel as a parking brake.
Wider is better:The wider the track width, the higher is the tilt stability and the faster
your trike is when cornering. For this purpose the broad track of 78 cm (30¾") of the
Gekko provides a lot of room between the wheels for your hands on the wide handlebars,
allowing much wider steering angle for a small turning circle of just 4.25 m (167").To ena-
ble your trike to slip casually through doors and gates, HP VELOTECHNIK has developed nar-
row hubs for a low total width of only 83 cm (32¾").
With the pedal positioned signifi-
cantly higher than the seat, an
efficient power transmission is
facilitated and alongside the
optionally adjustable reclined sea-
ting position underscores the
sporty nature of your Gekko.
With the optional quick frame adjustment, the length
can be adjusted more quickly. The chain length modifica-
tion is compensated by smooth pulleys. By sliding in the
front boom during transport, your Gekko is even more
compact.
After loosening the two clamping bolts at the frame bot-
tom, the frame is set to your leg length by sliding the
front boom in or out from the main frame.
Double safety:The sturdy folding joint has a safety bolt
that is unlocked against spring pressure after the quick
release is disengaged. Stainless steel precision folding axis
from HP VELOTECHNIK.
Practical during transport: HP VELOTECHNIK has develo-
ped unique open knuckles:The front wheels can be
removed easily along with the brake discs by loosening a
single screw. (Standard equipment)
Protects your clothes and the
chain:The drive is virtually com-
pletely covered.The special chain
guide tubes made of durable pla-
stic ensure minimum friction and
quiet operation.
Compact, smooth-running 20-inch wheels, optimized for the high side forces on
the tricycle. The black anodized HP VELOTECHNIK tricycle rims with rugged aero
hollow section combine excellent directional stability, maximum lateral stiffness
and low weight for quick acceleration.Wide, highly resilient tires with puncture
protection. HP VELOTECHNIK hubs with maintenance-free, sealed precision ball
bearings. Rust-proof stainless steel spokes.
9. HP Velotechnik's strong wish booster:
The Gekko E-Trike with a powerful electric motor
More and more people are discovering the cycling experience with casu-
ally elevated legs and a relaxed seating position on our touring trikes. The
mega trend "electric cycle" appears at its best in this type of cycle. The stre-
amlined seating posture saves valuable energy, enabling the precious battery
power to be efficiently utilized for an optimal cruising range.
Do you want to integrate this tailwind as well? Would you like to
climb your local hill with a smile, along with a trailer? Or commute fully
relaxed? Select HP Velotechnik's optional electric auxiliary drive. Step on the
pedals and a silent hub drive gives you support on demand up to three times
your pedaling power. That is easy. Literally, because our BIONX systems belong
to the most powerful E-assist drives with the lowest weights in the market.
Eminently convincing: The trike ride with your Gekko is exquisitely
maintained by well-designed control technology; no jerking, no noise and no
fault-prone gas lever! The BIONX system is very secure. The support is activa-
ted only if you step on the pedals. So there is no danger of the engine acce-
lerating excessively. The engine power starts quietly at the first crank revolu-
tion and is automatically regulated once the speed reaches 25 km/h. Above
this speed, your trike rides again like a normal Gekko – due to the gearless
hub motor without no-load losses.
Another big plus is gained by the BIONX engine due to its ability to pro-
duce electricity and not only consume it.When you pull the brake lever, the
engine switches into generator modus. It decelerates and produces electrici-
ty.This protects the brake and charges the battery. Thus riding downhill brings
in a part of the power reserves consumed during the ascent. This ability is cal-
led recuperation, which can extend the range by up to 16 percent.
Technical data
Test result:Very good. "The efficiency of the drive sets new standards. The various customization capabilities of
the system through programming allow a great adaptation to individual needs. Conclusion: High performance, low
weight, good range and lots of riding fun!" EXTRAENERGY Test 2008 BIONX PL250HT
For a balanced center of gravity, the bat-
tery is mounted at the center of the
trike behind the rider on the backrest
with HP VELOTECHNIK's bracket.The
Gekko fx folding feature remains fully
intact. The control panel is located on
the handlebar. HP VELOTECHNIK installs
the auxiliary drive with customized cable
sets and control programming for use in
the trike. The price of the PL250HTSL
system also includes the additional cost
for the 27-speed drivetrain with
SHIMANO XT rear derailleur, SHIMANO
DuraAce bar-end shifters, 40-52-60
crank set with integrated chain guard
ring and 9-speed freewheel 13-32.
Practical: With the adjustable recuperation resistance, your Gekko becomes
a comfortable exercise recumbent, if you keep it at home on a training roller.
You can recharge the removable battery easily in 3–4 hours using a power
socket. And a smile: A whole recharge of riding fun with environmental friend-
ly green power will cost you only a few cents.
As an E-trike is exposed to much higher loads than a conventional trike,
the engineers at HP Velotechnik have equipped the Gekko with a high-
strength, high-volume aluminum frame especially designed for the E-Trike
application. The ergonomic mesh seat with a built-in luggage bag is an integral
part of the frame structure and provides for maximum torsional rigidity.
Removable control panel: Simple choice of the support level by pressing
a button. The current status of support output and battery charge are
easy to read on the large display. Integrated bike computer with speed-
ometer and odometer. Switchable display backlight.

11. A box seat for the connoisseur:
Your Gekko shows ergonomics at its best
Finally a cycle on which you'd like to remain seated for another round after the tour. In terms of
ergonomics, your Gekko is far superior to conventional upright bikes. Instead of balancing your whole
body weight on a small, hard saddle, lean back comfortably in the wide mesh seat. The incline of the
anatomically shaped backrest can be variably adjusted. It offers pleasant back support and relieves your
spine. You can simply relax and forget about an aching bottom, numb private parts, aching spinal discs
or a stiff neck.
To make it easy for you to get in and get out the frame cross member that connects the front
wheels is bent backwards in such a way that you can put your feet securely on the ground close to the
seat. Smaller riders will appreciate the built-in, extra wide heel clearance of Gekko.
In the recumbent position you spare your knees when pedaling and can systematically regu-
late the stress of the muscles during fitness training. The sporty pedal position of the Gekko enables an
optimal power support in the seat and gives you a streamlined, fully relaxed posture. Due to the open
upper body posture, constricting pressure on the abdomen and your organs is avoided. Instead, the
lungs can fully enlarge and bring your cardiovascular system to full capacity. Learn fast on the Gekko:
Riding pleasure is the best heart rate accelerator!
Test it yourself: Your HPVelotechnik dealer will be glad to show you the new ergonomics of cycling.
The rider is the benchmark. In the
recumbent position the disc pressure
amounts to only a third of the bowed riding
posture.Active sitting position strengthens the back
muscles. The urologist Prof. Porst recommends the recum-
bent: "This vehicle has all the advantages of a conventional bike
with the additional benefit that it does not restrict the blood
flow in your genital area." The sports physician and urologist
Prof. Frank Sommer has verified it:The recumbent seat has
been the best so far among futuristic saddle designs.
The anatomically shaped seat
is covered with a breathable
mesh fabric. By regulating the
straps you can adjust the seat
shape according to your individual
back shape.
Practical detail:A zippered pocket is
sewn in at the upper end of the backrest.
Here you can stow the rain cover or your
keys, cell phone and wallet within easy
reach.
The optional headrest is adjustable in height
and in inclination. You can comfortably set it
on the back of your head or if you wear a
helmet, at neck height.Washable uphol-
stery with reflective tape and belt web-
bing for inserting battery-operated rear
lights.
The blue ripstop nylon rain cover
will keep your seat dry when you
leave your bike in the rain or
snow.

13. Ideal towing vehicle: With your Gekko you can tow two-wheel trailers up
to 40 kg.In combination with the auxiliary electric drive,it becomes an excee-
dingly attractive locomotive set. Good to know:Your trike is better suited for
transporting trailers than conventional bikes. With two wheels in the front,
you always have a good view of the widest part.
On the Gekko, you can judge the total width of the front pair better while
riding through narrow areas. You can go with a heavy load on the trike as slow
as you want without overturning. You are also visible to children in the trailer
at eye level and can communicate with your little passengers by a quick look
over the shoulder.
On Gekko, trailers can be mounted at the dro-
pout with virtually all standard coupling systems.
For some trailers, special drawbars for 20"
towing vehicles are available on request. Please
ask your trailer dealer for details.

Spirit {Pleasure}
HPVelotechnik has worked with much enthusiasm since
1993 on the optimization of cycles and accessories for
active people. The basis of success of the developments
are thereby the extensive riding experiences of the custo-
mers all over the world. Before an implementation of sug-
gestions in the series production, a conservative test is
always performed by specialist engineers in the develop-
ment team. Durable, high-quality cycles have priority over
quick product changeover cycles.
The joy of advanced bike technology brought the
founders of HP Velotechnik Paul Hollants and Daniel
Pulvermüller together early on. As students they became
the national winner of the VDI's JUTEC competition with
their fully suspended tricycle velomobile, which was the
foundation stone for a development from a garage lab to
one of the most innovative cycle manufacturers in
Germany. Already as students of industrial engineering and
mechanical engineering at the Technical University of
Darmstadt, Hollants and Pulvermüller started their own
business. The company name is composed of the surnames
of the founders and also alludes to the English name of the
still exotic vehicles of that time: Human Powered Vehicles.

The focus is on people. At HP Velotechnik, recumbents are ergonomically designed on the basis
of your needs using modern construction methods. Modular, orthopedically perfect seating systems
create the best connection between you and your trike. Plenty of riding pleasure is always included.
The centerpiece: The lightweight, rigid frame is made of high-strength,
high-volume aluminum tubes. These are linked with precise craftsmanship with
impressive finely scaled, heavy-duty welding seams in the TIG process.
Tricycles are exposed to high torsional forces when cornering, accelerating and
braking, particularly with luggage load. In order to efficiently bring your pedaling
force any time on the road and to optimize driving safety in the limit area, the
engineers at HPVelotechnik minimize unwanted elastic bending of the frame. An example: Our high-
strength aluminum main frame tube with a solid 2 mm wall thickness provides a 34% increase in tor-
sional rigidity compared to a similar heavy steel tube with a wall thickness of 1 mm. You will feel it
at once: the precision of the steering, the sporty handling and safe braking.
The tilt-stable chassis: The two sturdy front wheels are mounted far outside reliably on the ele-
gantly curved forward frame cross member. Extra safety:You have the total width of your vehicle
always in good view while riding through narrow passages.
Detailed product information can be found, in addition to this catalog, on our well-structured
