2. My Growth as an Educator
- Recognize and plan for diversity of needs (UDL)
- Encourage and usher students into self directed technology use
(Toolbelt)
- The power of language (ACC- Augmentative and Alternative
Communications)
- New appreciation for the wide array of vision-related
technologies and specialized equipment available
3. My Growth as a Student
- Learning for the sake of learning, not grades
- I prefer simplification (browser built in tech)
- I enjoy learning best through experimentation & conversations
- Technology resources for my own use
- New
- MindMup
- Google Keep
- Wikipedia Simple
- Already used
- Google Read&Write
- Grammarly
- Audio Books
4. A Realization
The technology does not have to be elaborate to be effective. For
some students, pen and paper will be best! For others, typing on
Google Docs will be best! For others, voice-to-text will be best! At
the end of the day, a tech tool needs to benefit each student, not the
convenience of the teacher or classroom.
We are all unique with unique needs and preferences.
6. New and Old Thinking
What I was already doing…
- Providing reading and
writing options (audio
books, Google docs)
- Including a variety of
representation (video,
slides, voice, images, etc.)
- Utilizing online math
resources
What I will do more of…
- Separate content from
output more (provide more
options for expressing
learning)
- Spend time teaching tech
- Encourage tech choices
- Help students share work
online in meaningful ways
7. TEACHING TECH
- Everyone needs tech help!
- Impact of Covid: social inequality, need for tech resources/skills
- Teacher’s responsibility to introduce tech in class
- Starting with a mini tech crash course
- Providing choice for each student’s toolbelt
- Introducing new tools throughout the year
9. Professional Development
- Learn more about Boardmaker, connect with my school district
about a free trial
- Explore more opportunities for inclusion within dance classes
(ex. IPad app that makes tap-shoe noises)
- More tech. resources for students with autism (perhaps
practicing social skills)
