* Keep your child home until the blister has crusted over. * If you have to take the child to the

placed in a separate waiting area. In order to help to keep the spread of chickenpox in control the
CDC recommends that children get the first shot at 12 to 15 months of age with a second shot
between the fourth and sixth year of life (www.livestrong.com).
The CDC points out that 45 to 50 U.S. states have required the vaccine for children entering school.
This is to maximize the prevention of the illness (www.livestrong.com).
In order to maximize and outbreak of chickenpox they introduce the chicken pox vaccine that you
take in one dosage to maximize the outbreak but outbreaks still occur in school setting where most
children only receive one dosage but there have been fewer outbreak since the two dosage
program was started in the United State (www.CDC.gov). Varicella (chickenpox) is a highly
contagious disease that is very uncomfortable and sometimes serious. The chickenpox vaccine is
the best protection against chickenpox. The vaccine is made from weakened varicella virus that
produces an immune response in your body that protects you against chickenpox. The chicken pox
virus was licensed for use in the United State in 1995. Since then, the vaccine has been widely used.

The Tooth Fairy Essay
Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Truth in Parenting
The early childhood years are full of play, pretend and magical thinking. Young children put on
wings and take flight around preschool classrooms. They can be anyone they can imagine
superheroes, princes princesses, mommy, daddy, and even the dog or the cat. The magic will
gradually fade and they may have a few questions for you...
The Shift
Children cannot distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality like adults. They believe
that fantasy can be real because they do not know the limits of reality.[1] This limitless way to
see the world allows them to believe that anything can happen. For example, approximately 65%
of children ages have imaginary friends by the age of 7.[2] They may even get upset when we
forget to buckle their friend into the car. I remember my sister getting very upset when I seemed to
continuously sit on her imaginary friend in our living room. This lack of boundary between fantasy
and reality allows kids to believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny...until they
don t.

The Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble Directed By...
I attended the Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble directed by Alex Parker on Tuesday,
November 10th. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones, trumpets, drums, a piano, and
bass. The concert showcased many individual talents by including solo s or duet s in every song.
The program consisted of seven songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big
Dipper by Thad Jones and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad
Jones consisted of a duet by Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the
trumpet. The tone of the piece was in major. It had a happy feel to it and made you want to get up
and dance. It was moderato in tempo, meaning it was an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a
quick crescendo from mezzo piano, or medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet
had the melody and the rest of the instruments were the background musicfor most of the piece
however, the rest of the ensemble had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt
as if I was in the 1950 s listening to swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike and brassy.
Jones incorporated many accents and staccato markings throughout the composition. The song had
many contrasts with pitches and dynamics. Most of the crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be
directly related to the amount of instruments being played. If there was just one instrument playing
and they started to increase in volume, the other

Mother Son Conflict In The Odyssey
There is a common theme in Greek Mythology of children fighting with, overthrowing, and often
killing their parents. Zeus kills his father Cronus to rise to power as the king of the Olympian
gods. Prior to this, Cronus had killed his own father, Uranus, which lead to the rise of the Titans.
Perhaps you re confused. No one kills their parents in the books we read in class, you re probably
thinking. In this, you are correct. However, Telemachus relationship with his mother Penelopestill
fits some aspects of this trope of struggling in the assumption of power from his parents. His
murder of the maids at his father s command is influenced by his attempting to prevail in this
mother son conflict.
In order to present this concept in my media project, I created a comic detailing Telemachus
hypothetical thought process, the people and statements I d imagine were passing through his mind
the moment before he murdered the maids. In doing so, I can justify my thesis. Sections from the
comic and the quotations that go along with them will appear on the screen behind me as I provide
literary analysis, and at the end I ll show the comic in full.
To begin, in order to prove the murders were influenced by the conflict, it must first be proven that
there is a conflict. Shortly after the introductory section of the Odyssey, we see Telemachus telling
his mother to go back to her quarters and tend to her distaff and loom . Then, he reminds her he
holds the reins of power in their house.

Anne Sexton Wanting To Die
In her poem Wanting to Die , Anne Sexton explains the feeling of suicidal ideation to an unnamed
individual. Following the form of contemporary poets, she takes an incredibly taboo topic and
discusses it in a conversational tone, thereby shocking the reader and forcing them to think about
the issue in an unconventional way. The poem lacks a rhyme scheme and meter, although it is
structured into three line stanzas, and thus aligns with the free verse style of writingtypical of
contemporary poets. Since you ask, Anne Sexton opens her poem with these threes words, throwing
the reader into the middle of a seemingly ordinary conversation (Sexton 1). Neither the name of the
inquirer nor the question they asked is revealed to the reader,... Show more content on

Sexton refers to these as still born (another topic too sensitive to be discussed in everyday
conversation) in order to describe the lack of choice in life or death (Sexton 19). Perhaps
confusing at first, the next 2 lines clarify that suicide has only known death and desires so
strongly to return to that dazzled state of nothingness (Sexton 20). Sexton, in a most
disconcerting fashion, states that even innocent children, unaware of the trials of life, would be
fond of a sensation so sweet. Such a bold and shocking statement would have challenged one s
ideas about suicide and promote thought into the sensitive matter. She calls suicide itself a
drug, and once someone has tried it, their new passion in life is to seek and find that drug
(Sexton 23). Furthermore, she compares death to a bone, sad and bruised, hurting and a
permanent part of her being. In a sort of twisted logic she implies that life is somehow an injury
that must be undone. It s a kind of balance between self pity and self expression that is commonly
found in confessional poets. A belief common among depressed populations is that they are
inherently bad people, simply for existing. Sexton expresses this in the last line of this stanza
comparing her body to a cruel prison that must be broken to release her captive breath. The
complex an overlapping analogies for death challenge the reader to pay

Did Trojan War Begin Over The Love Of Women
Trojan war Laura Gibbons
For my historical investigation I am looking to the Trojan War. My main focus question is did the
Trojan war really begin over the love of a women.
The Trojan War is known as a significant event in Greek mythology. According to Homer the
Trojan War was a battle at Troybetween Paris of Troy and the Spartans because Paris stole Helen
from her husband Menelaus who was the king Sparta. The battle raged on for 10 years until
finally the Spartans were victorious due to the Trojan horse battle strategy causing the fall of
Troy. Evidence of this battle comes throughout Homers works of Greek literature lliad and
odyssey . But were Homers stories the actual reason of one of history s most talked about wars?
Was his story s a recount of a different battle? Was a woman really the reason to start a war over?
Did Troy actually exist? Was there more too it, did geographical Location and trade a major issue?

My hypothesis is that the Trojan Wardidn t actually happen because of Helen being abducted
from Sparta, I think that there s more the issue, perhaps a major wealth issue from a
neighbouring society. Archaeologist Like Heinrich Schlieman, Wilhelm Dörpfeld, Carl Blegen
and Manfred Korfmann, have all looked into the site of where Troy was believed to be and have all
found some sort of evidence as so why, the battle of Troy could not have started all because Helen

Tension In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Tension is a factor of life that is felt intuitively which means that it is hard to define and even
harder to convey, especially on a page. In his work Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl perfectly
executes creating tension within his writing and in doing so within his reader. In his work he
creates tension through the inner and outer conflicts between characters, the meticulous decision of
characterization, and the conscious choice of places irony in the piece.
In the piece Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl naturally creates tension through the inner and
outer conflicts of his characters. In the work Roald Dahl has the wife character, Mary Maloney,
say to her husband, Patrick, But you must eat! I ll fix it anyway, (3) She says this to Patrick even
after he repeatedly tells her to sit down because he is not hungry. This is the first time Mary
directly disobeys her husband. This conflict creates tension because it finally breaks her Patrick s
thinning patience in the story so far, which leads him to break and tell her news that upsets her.
Roald Dahl also creates tension by having Mary kill her husband, which is a conflict with a
permanent consequence. On page 5 she thinks, So I ve killed him, this is after Patrick admits
something, the details unknown to the reader, that greatly upsets Mary, and the reader s watch as
her honest shock turns into a brief moment of violence. When Mary hits Patrick over the head with
a lamb leg it creates tension because it is the first time

Child Poverty And Its Effects On Children
Child Poverty in Canada
Grace Abbott once said, Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together and if you
continue to use the labor of children as the treatment for the social disease of poverty, you will
have both poverty and child labor to the end of time. Child poverty is one of the biggest issues
facing Canadian children today. Child poverty can significantly shorten a child s life. One of the
major reasons child poverty in Canada is so high is because of low wages. These children have a
disadvantage to all the other children in Canada. There is major inequality among these children.
There are many problems that come out of child poverty and effect the children directly. This paper
will talk about the four major effects of child poverty; health issues and nutrition, emotional and
behavioural issues, education, and their home environment. (Introduction: dimensions of children s
inequality, 2003).
Health Issues and Nutrition
Child poverty can have many effects on children, one being health problems. A widespread method
to family and community health is authoritative to provide children with the finest upbringing.
Nonetheless, restricted access to health services and appropriate programs are often seen as
serious. This could have been prevented with instant and continuing development. The number of
families who are required to rely on emergency food sources, in a period of economic wealth is
one example of the relationship between high costs of housing, food

The Theory Of Self Defense
Self defense is described in the dictionary as; the act of defending one s person when physically
attacked, as by countering blows or overcoming an assailant ( self defense, n.d.). The concept of
self defense appears well defined; however, the tactics allowed to protect oneself have evolved just
as America has. As technology and weaponry advance, the need for clearer laws pertaining to the
actions allowed by an individualneed to be reevaluated and clearly communicated. Starting in early
colonial times and moving through history, there is a great deal of differences between the self
defense that was once permitted and what is acceptable and tolerated today.
In early colonial times, Europeans began settling in America. During this time, there was a need
for self defense from both the Native Americans who were already settled on the new land and
from the European invaders who wanted to take it over. Self defense was originally termed the
first law of nature, and citizens were allowed to use deadly force whenever they judged it
necessary. This practice of self defense existed during a time where the individual was considered
the ... judge, jury, and executioner (Cornell, 2013). While being attacked, an individual was
allowed to determine the course of action he or she could take to protect himself or herself
whether it be retreating or killing the perpetrator. During this time, items such as one s own hands,
bow and arrows, knives, and weapons of that sort were used

The Description Of Yahweh From Exodus 34 Essay
The description of Yahweh found in Exodus 34:5 7 is a significant and influential passage from the
Old Testament text which is foundational for biblical theology, since it provides the most complete
description of both the name and the nature of God found anywhere within the scriptural canon. Its
significance can is noted by the fact that this passage is quoted and referred back to at least eleven
times throughout the Old Testament including in the books of Jeremiah, Joel, Numbers, Nehemiah,
Lamentations, Daniel, and 1 Kings.. In order to fully understand the meaning and purpose of this
passage, several other passages must be considered which serve both as anticipatory texts and texts
which provide contextual meaning. One such text is found in the thirty third chapter of Exodus.
The passage from Exodus 34 is especially significant as many characteristics of Yahwehare revealed
to Mosesby Yahweh Himself. Another important aspect of this passage is its poeticism and the fact
that it reveals the innate characteristics of Godin such a way that demonstrates literary beauty and
rhythm. Many phrases and expressions in this passage are presented in pairs. This is augmented
by the fact that this passage, in the broadest sense, serves to emphasize the two aspects of God
which are most basic. These two aspects are His love and His justice. The purpose of this paper
is to examine and analyze this passage in Exodus 34, as well as several contextual texts, in order to
attempt to grasp

Reasons For The Failure Of Acculturation
Acculturation is a very significant issue of post colonial literature. Pakistan shortly after
independence divided into the phenomenon of regional identities and multiculturality which is a
phenomenon of acculturation. Multiculturality gave way to the formation of different ethnicities.
The present research paper is aimed to trace out the reasons for the failure of acculturation in South
Asian context. For analysis of the novel, the acculturist model of J.W Berry (1995) has been used.
Berry proposes that proper acculturation plays an important role in lessening social conflict. This

Montessori schools the first is the Association Montessori International which was started by the
founder Maria Montessori in 1907. The second branch is the American Montessori society started
by Nancy Rambush in an attempt to Americanize the Montessori Method. Montessori schools have
multi aged classes that have self correcting materials that the children use. The children are allowed
to make use of any of the equipment in the classroom after they have been given a silent
demonstration by the teacher.
The High/Scope, Approach founded in 1970 by the work that Dave Weikart and Connie Kamii did
on the Parry Preschool Project. These early educators thought that early education could prevent
school failure in high school. They believed that children learn by mentally and physically
interacting with the environment and with others. One of the main features is that children are
encouraged to be active in their learning. Teachers in the High/Scope school classrooms are
interactive often observing and setting up problem solving situations for the children.

expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love,
symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway
focuses on masculinityand femininityinterplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the
two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel
doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his
novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an
unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling
husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely
le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not
exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a
Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in
fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the
audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she

Descriptive Essay On Beauty
I had to decorate my head with flowers and was looking exquisite. My father had prohibited me
from using scented perfumes. I also did not have slightest of interest in that. I have been brought
up in nature. Where does beauty live? Is it in jewelry or clothes, in the body, in soul or in the eye
of the beholder? I was wondering.
Four chariots named Rug, Yarju, Sam and Atharva were constructed. The great father Brahma sat
on Rug. Twayi and Anwikshika were sitting in Yarju. Varta and Niti were in Atharva. Yarju was
decorated with beautiful flowers. A drape of flowers covered the front of the chariot. The fourth
chariot Atharva was appearing like a bouquet of red flowers.
I sat in the chariot Sam, which was decorated with vines and fragrant flowers. In front of me, a
garland of white jasmine was hanging. I was bathing with the fragrance of the flowers. My whole
body, my mind, and my soul were all filled with fragrance.
No one could see me from outside the chariot. But, I could see through the vines and thorns. I did
not know the logic behind bringing me to heaven like a prisoner. I was sitting with suppressed
curiosity, but was enjoying the scenery of the Indraloka.
Even though heaven s beauty amazed me, my mind was thinking about my motherland, the earth.
My playground, the elegant forest on the foothills of the Himalayas was no way less beautiful. I
could never accept that my unique mother land is less prosperous than the kingdom of Indraloka.
After attending godhood, it was natural to become a lover of luxury. Hence, the kingdom of gods
was so much a show off. If my motherland was a selfless hermit, the heaven was a hedonist beauty.
If the Indraloka was so attractive, then how attractive Indra would be?
After the discussion, I was supposed to come out of the chariot as if for a display. That time I
could see without any hindrance and Indradeva could also see me.
I remembered my first encounter with Indra. He was visiting my father in the ashram. His chariot
was in the garden and I sat in it pretending to navigate it. As soon as I saw him returning to the
chariot, I got scared. I slipped and fell while descending from the chariot and twisted my feet. I did
not cry. Indradeva was already there. Before he

Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, And Traditional Psychodynamic...
Psychodynamic Theories
What is traditional psychodynamic theory? Who and where did it come? How did contemporary
psychodynamic theory develop and expand upon those ideas? Who were the key players?
Theories
The traditional psychodynamic theories of personality were introduced to us through Sigmund Freud
, Carl Jung, and Alfred Alder. From there many other great minds were able to build upon the
framework of the ideas of those who had gone before them. Most notably was Melanie Klein, Karen
Horney, Eric Fromm, and Erik Erikson. Traditional psychodynamic theorists focused more on the
unconscious and how it relates to personality, whereas contemporary psychodynamic theorist
focused more on how the individual develops their personality.
Traditional Theories The traditional psychodynamic theories put great emphases on the importance
of the unconscious mind and believed that personality traits were something people are born. The
consensus being that the traits everyone expressed as being inherent and coming from within.
There was not a huge amount of focus on how the outside world may have contributed to an
individual s personality. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Alfred Alder believed that what occurred
in the unconscious mind had a significant impact on what went on in the conscious mind. The main
propositions and components of Sigmund Freud s psychoanalysis theory are that an adult s
personality is largely determined by their experiences during childhood and that people are

The Sound Of Silence Movie Analysis
How did you respond to THE GRADUATE? Did the storyline and characters hold your interest?
What about Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman)? Did you in any way relate to his
issues: specifically, what will he end up doing with his life now that he is a college graduate; what
will his future be; will he ever genuinely fall in love?
And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs both in the
church and on the bus?
Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Was she little more than a
villainess: a completely selfish, self centered person? Or was there something deeper within her?
Was there a sense of sadness about her, a feeling that she was living a life unfulfilled?

Candide
Oct, 2014 Being a young man raised in a fine castle of the Baron, Candide had no idea of what a
real life is outside of the caste. In that place, he was surrounded by his needs, including his lover
Cundegonde and a great mentor Pangloss. Once he was abandoned from his fine castle, he had
separated from his Cundegone and had to face the brutal life on his journey to find his lover.
However, Candide learned the idea of Pangloss, which is everything is for the best , he faces, hears,

As for my opinion, I think the whole play Candide is pretty depressing, especially when our
protagonist tries to act like everything is fine just like Pangloss in some terrible situations.
When he is starting to think outside of the box of optimism, he decides to bring twenty
miserable people to his inn and hears them all. After he heard all of them, he says, That Pangloss
would be hard put to prove his system. I wish he were here. Certainly, if everything goes well, it
is in Eldorado and not in the rest of the world. Candide is being pessimistic in this part and it is a

Great Leap Forward Summary
10. Diamond characterizes the Great Leap Forward as the stage in human development when
humans became seemingly more modern and more similar, biologically and behaviorally, to the
human today. This leap occurred around 50,000 years ago, the signs being standardized tools,
preserved jewelry, and the completely modern skeletons of the Cro Magnon.
11. The major human achievements that characterize the Great Leap Forward can be defined by
the first ever preserved jewelry and methodized tools made out of stone. Other major human
achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much
like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. The most marvelous as
well as most known achievement of the Cro Magnons would have to be their artwork though, due
to its wondrous beauty in the eyes of many.

Diamond proposes the theory that the disappearance of mega fauna in Australia/New Guinea was
due to human interaction. The animals of Australia and New Guinea had not yet been introduced to
humans, eliminating the chance of coevolution. They became extinct in every habitat without
exception...the giants were indeed exterminated by humans, both directly (by being killed for food)
and indirectly (as a result of fires and habitat modification caused by humans). It seems that
Diamond primarily believed that the extinction of the many mega fauna was entirely the fault of the
humans and not at all because of the animals changing habitat. Due to the fact that the mega fauna
of Australia and New Guinea were not prepared for the arrival of humans, they were successfully
hunted to the ultimate death:

The Knight s Tale Comparison Essay
In the short story, The Knight s Tale written by Geoffrey Chaucer, the two main characters,
Palamon and Arcite battle for the love of Emily. The Duke of Athens, Theseus, had taken Palamon
and Arcite prisoners and locked them up in a tower, where they then noticed Emily and
immediately had fallen in lovewithout ever even talking to her. Emily was Theseus sister in law
and since both Palamon and Arcite were prisoners, they most likely had a slim chance of getting to
meet the love of their life. Throughout The Knight s Tale , there are many instances that display
differences, similarities, and the resulting consequences between Arcite and Palamon. Throughout

The Negative Consequences of Discipline
One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from
harm and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have
encouraged and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system.
This correlation between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to
prison pipeline . Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked?
Although this policy has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to
minorities, a trend that is largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective,
many questions are raised as to the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to
students, seeing that expulsions and suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education.
Consequently, micro level disciplinary alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate
offenders rather than punish them. These alternatives offer a balance between disciplineand the risk
of overcriminalization, and include counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender
mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central question that is raised throughout this discussion is the
objective of the discipline; whether disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass
students, or whether it needs to reinforce and teach them why their behavior is wrong. This then
relates to the

The stories are written by two different authors namely, E.B White and Welty respectively. The
purpose of this paper is to analyze and explain the stories and also compare them in order to
enhance the value of this paper. The comparison of both the stories will be in the form of
analysis in which the similarities and differences will be discussed. More importantly, the paper

these stories and what lessons should a reader must take away after reading these epic stories of
the authors childhoods. Once more to the Lake is an epic tale of a middle aged man who

responsibilities. He does not seem fed up from his life but he misses his childhood memories
more than he owns his responsibilities. The most prominent of his childhood memories is the lake
that he used to visit with his father during his childhood. In the story he plans to visit the lake

Our Town Is Emily A Tragic Hero
Emily as a Modern Tragic Hero
Our Town by Thornton Wilder is a play that a first glance appears to be dull and quite ordinary
play but if analyzed is a complex tragedy with a deep meaning. It is set in a small town in New
Hampshire called Grover s Corners, in the early 1900s, with a population of about 2,000 people. It
is enforced throughout the play that the town is not extraordinary and very routine. This foundation
is what highlights the overall message that the play conveys; death is inevitable, life is short and
always taken for granted. The play also includes many plain characters, one of which is a woman
named Emily Webb. She is not a extravagant character, rather undeveloped, but has a significant
role in being the tragic hero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thought of life being finished and all living actions being taken away frightened Emily. This
emotion moves her to change and alter her fate. This drive to reverse her downfall is a
characteristic of a modern tragic hero. But Mother Gibbs, one can go back there again... into the
living. I can feel it. I know it (Thornton 57). Emily has this urge to change her situation; to
overcome her permanent flaw. She is willing to go to extreme lengths to alter her position.
Emily is a modern tragic hero because she possesses this desire. Additionally, her efforts to
change coincides with the idea that Miller states regarding modern tragic heros. His unwillingness
to remain passive in the face of what he conceives to be a challenge to his dignity (Miller 1).
Arthur Miller is describing how the attitude of a modern tragic hero is the characteristic to
diminish an undesirable outcome. Emily has the same characteristics that Miller describes when
confronted with her fate. This quality is what makes her a modern tragic hero. Emily has both
feelings of disfavor an objection towards her changeless destiny. These feelings characterize her as
a modern tragic

collection of samples, the sites were evaluated for any bone loss and evaluation of any healthy

patients every 6 months and have a new study every 3 months to obtain more clinical samples. A
healthy patient would have 5 mm pockets or less while a diseased patient would have

Throughout the entire film, the unknown audience follows along with the story of the Buena

a social place where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other (Davis 84). In this
interaction the Buena Vista Social Club serves as the center, while the audience serves as the
periphery that is receiving ideas, images, and materials from the center through the lyrics of the

Social Media Can Destroy Socialization
Social Media Can Destroy Socialization Science and technology has become a catalyst for
human development. In recent years, the introduction of computers and the internet has
dramatically changed the way we live and interact. From medical discoveries to transportation
innovation, information access to space exploration, the internet provided most of the changes
in our society at least in the last two decades. However, one possible outcome of such
modification may be seen negatively as social networking sites, particularly Facebook, has

Fake Confidence People usually have joined Facebook due to their friends invitation, peer

crave more attention by posting everything about him or herself. This uncontrollable activity may
lead to an experience of a superficial confidence online which may not translate in the real world.

Human Needs In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
In class, literariness was defined as a piece of writing that has excellence of form and expressed a
universal interest. This means that the writing, as a whole, has to pertain to the everyday
circumstances of ordinary people, and it must do so through a meaningful narrative. The universal
interests are synonymous with the basic needsof a human; Anthony Robbins, an American author,
philanthropist, and life coach, defines the basic human needs with six terms: contribution, certainty,
growth, variety, significance, and love. Throughout Kate Chopin s novella The Awakening, the
main protagonist, Edna, experiences albeit at differing levels all six of the basic needs. Thus, The
Awakening qualifies as a piece of literary work because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edna only has limited certainty. She has security and safety, but lacks comfort she is not
comfortable in her own skin. She is forced to conform to society s assigned gender roles, and is
frowned upon when she diverges from it: At a very early period [Edna] had apprehended
instinctively the dual life that outward existence which conforms, the inward life which
questions (18). Additionally, the caged parrot in the beginning of the story is symbolic of Edna
s growing frustrations about her lack of comfort. The parrot exclaims, Allez vous en! Sapristi!,
(1) which translates to, Go away! For God s sake! These words are directed at LГ©once,
representative of Edna voicing her anger at her husband because he trapped her in the cage of
maternal responsibilities that she wants to be freed from. Edna s need of certainty her search for
comfort is partly the cause of her demise in the end. The third basic human need is growth. This
is signified by a sense of development both physically and mentally. Everyone, toddler or adult, is
continually growing. This is a universal interest because people instinctively want to learn, and
Edna is no different. Her progression through the novella is a, sort of, second adolescence.
Adolescence is the period in life when people begin to grow and individualize themselves, and it is
no doubt that in The Awakening, Edna is trying to grow her wings

really the first song that i remember hearing from my child hood. Every time it came on the
radio me and my mom blasted it. The song goes through the motion in a third person narrative of
someone having a bad day. I remembered during my childhood when I was having a bad day I
would blast this song and it would make me in a better mood. It really begin the foundation of
music for me. This song spoke volumes to me and it would instantly change my mood when I
heard it. Now when I hear it I instantly am drawn to memories of me and my mother blasting it.
It takes me back to my child hood in a way. I remember my favorite lines from the song was, You
re taking one down. You sing a sad song just to turn it around. Its ironic, but sometimes listening
to sad music will brighten my mood. I related a lot with that verse and the rest of the song. This
is why Bad Day by Daniel Poster is part of my attention collection project. Scooby Doo is another
piece of my attention project. Growing up I didn t really like watching a lot of television, but I
do remember loving the show Scooby Doo. I was interested in always trying to figure out the
mystery of who was the person behind all the mischief. I remember when I was sick I would
watch Scooby Doo. It was a big part of my child hood and I also still like to watch it today. It has
taught me that the real monsters are not the made up monsters

The Assumptions Of Ability Grouping, Student Tracking And...
Abstract
This paper will dive into four common unwarranted assumptions made from ability grouping
(student tracking) and attempt to debunk the ideas. Ability grouping is the common educational
practice of separating students based on actual or purported ability in the same grade into different
instructional groups with differing levels of aptitude or achievement (Ainsworth 2013). The four
assumptions that will follow were researched by the former presidential professor in equity in the
graduate school of education and information studies at UCLA, Jeannie Oakes. Ability grouping or
student tracking is in fact illegal in the state of California but, institutions still find alternative ways
to implement the method.
Keywords: Ability Grouping, Students Tracking
Debunking the False Assumptions of Ability Grouping The four ability grouping assumptions are
as follow: (1) Students learn better when they are grouped with other students who have similar
academic skills or prior levels of achievement, (2) slower students develop more positive attitudes
about themselves and their education when they are not in daily classroom contact with those who
are brighter, (3) track placements are part of a meritocratic system with assignments earned by
students and accorded through fair and accurate means, and (4) teaching is easier when students are
grouped homogeneously, and teaching is better when there are no slower students to lower the
common denominator in the classroom

Analysis Of The Book Revelation Of The Bible
Since the beginning of time there has been a concept as old as thought itself: how will it all end?
Not just how will life end but how will the world end. Some cultures are molded by the way that
specific groups believe the end times will come to fruition. Eschatological concepts are those that
concern themselves with the end of the world, as we know it and how it will come about. One
thing that is for certain is across the ages there is a consensus that this will occur, though there
may not be a consensus on how. This concept has infiltrated almost all aspects of life from
entertainment to daily practices. There are numerous pieces of literature that addresses how the
world will end and of them one of the most well know is the Book of... Show more content on

Jesus later goes on to explain that the seven stars that were in his hand represent the angels of
seven churches and the seven gold lamp stands represent the seven churches. Once he states this
he begins to address each church individually. The letters poses similarities while at the same time
also possessing differences. The overall structures of the letters are the same and follow these
guidelines: address, commendation/complaint, advice, appeal for others to listen, and then a
promised reward for heading the words of the Lord. The differences arise in the content of the
addresses, how the problems should be corrected and the reward that will come.
The seven letters serve as a connection between the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation.
Though the Book of Revelation lacks any direct Old Testament connection, the views and
connection between the two are seen throughout the Book of Revelation. The authorship by John
took place during the Greco Roman era but the structure of writing that the letters poses is more
appropriate for the prophetic lawsuit of the Old Testament. The difference between the styles lies in
the fact that the letters contain commendations and accusations along with the customary features
judgment and salvation, which makes them in concordance with prophetic lawsuit speech (Bandy
186). Bandy stated, specifically, it resembles the covenant lawsuit whereby Christ scrutinizes the

Negative Effects of Title Ix
Title IX Slowly Killing Men s Athletics This past June marked the 40th anniversary of Title IX, a
United States law stating that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded
from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any
education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Although the wide spectrum in
which Title IX covers includes many educational issues, its application to NCAA athletics has
especially been confounded, because, unlike most educational institutions, athletic programs are
gender segregated by sport. In terms of intercollegiate athletics, Title IX essentially states that that
all academic institutes of higher education are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, by competing in collegiate athletics, one better learns how to work with a team in
order to achieve a common goal. This is a valuable skill that is necessary in the work force, as
well as many other aspects of life. Also, college sports teach discipline, time management, and
provide student athletes with great tools, such as tutors, in order to help achieve their academic
potential. As stated previously, women have a much lower interest in competing in athletics,
statistically speaking. For example, high schools must also obey the regulations put into play by
Title IX by offering the same number of sports teams for each gender, thus giving high school
students equal opportunities to participate in athletics. However, even though both male and
females are offered the same opportunities, 1.4 million fewer females choose to compete in high
school sports than males. Based on recent reports from the 2010 11 academic year from the state
high school athletic associations from all 50 states, sports participation among genders is
approximately 4.5 million boys, or 60% of total participation, as compared to approximately 3.1
million girls, or only 40% of total participation.(Toporek) Although this statistic clearly

The magic will gradually fade and they may have a few questions for you... The Shift Children cannot distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality like adults. They believe that fantasy can be real because they do not know the limits of reality.[1] This limitless way to see the world allows them to believe that anything can happen. • 7. The Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble Directed By... I attended the Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble directed by Alex Parker on Tuesday, November 10th. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones, trumpets, drums, a piano, and bass. The concert showcased many individual talents by including solo s or duet s in every song. The program consisted of seven songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big Dipper by Thad Jones and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones consisted of a duet by Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece was in major. It had a happy feel to it and made you want to get up and dance. It was moderato in tempo, meaning it was an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a quick crescendo from mezzo piano, or medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet had the melody and the rest of the instruments were the background musicfor most of the piece however, the rest of the ensemble had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt as if I was in the 1950 s listening to swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike and brassy. Jones incorporated many accents and staccato markings throughout the composition. The song had many contrasts with pitches and dynamics. Most of the crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be directly related to the amount of instruments being played. If there was just one instrument playing and they started to increase in volume, the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mother Son Conflict In The Odyssey There is a common theme in Greek Mythology of children fighting with, overthrowing, and often killing their parents. Zeus kills his father Cronus to rise to power as the king of the Olympian gods. Prior to this, Cronus had killed his own father, Uranus, which lead to the rise of the Titans. Perhaps you re confused. No one kills their parents in the books we read in class, you re probably thinking. In this, you are correct. However, Telemachus relationship with his mother Penelopestill fits some aspects of this trope of struggling in the assumption of power from his parents. His murder of the maids at his father s command is influenced by his attempting to prevail in this mother son conflict. In order to present this concept in my media project, I created a comic detailing Telemachus hypothetical thought process, the people and statements I d imagine were passing through his mind the moment before he murdered the maids. In doing so, I can justify my thesis. Sections from the comic and the quotations that go along with them will appear on the screen behind me as I provide literary analysis, and at the end I ll show the comic in full. To begin, in order to prove the murders were influenced by the conflict, it must first be proven that there is a conflict. Shortly after the introductory section of the Odyssey, we see Telemachus telling his mother to go back to her quarters and tend to her distaff and loom . Then, he reminds her he holds the reins of power in their house. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Anne Sexton Wanting To Die In her poem Wanting to Die , Anne Sexton explains the feeling of suicidal ideation to an unnamed individual. Following the form of contemporary poets, she takes an incredibly taboo topic and discusses it in a conversational tone, thereby shocking the reader and forcing them to think about the issue in an unconventional way. The poem lacks a rhyme scheme and meter, although it is structured into three line stanzas, and thus aligns with the free verse style of writingtypical of contemporary poets. Since you ask, Anne Sexton opens her poem with these threes words, throwing the reader into the middle of a seemingly ordinary conversation (Sexton 1). Neither the name of the inquirer nor the question they asked is revealed to the reader,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexton refers to these as still born (another topic too sensitive to be discussed in everyday conversation) in order to describe the lack of choice in life or death (Sexton 19). Perhaps confusing at first, the next 2 lines clarify that suicide has only known death and desires so strongly to return to that dazzled state of nothingness (Sexton 20). Sexton, in a most disconcerting fashion, states that even innocent children, unaware of the trials of life, would be fond of a sensation so sweet. Such a bold and shocking statement would have challenged one s ideas about suicide and promote thought into the sensitive matter. She calls suicide itself a drug, and once someone has tried it, their new passion in life is to seek and find that drug (Sexton 23). Furthermore, she compares death to a bone, sad and bruised, hurting and a permanent part of her being. In a sort of twisted logic she implies that life is somehow an injury that must be undone. It s a kind of balance between self pity and self expression that is commonly found in confessional poets. A belief common among depressed populations is that they are inherently bad people, simply for existing. Sexton expresses this in the last line of this stanza comparing her body to a cruel prison that must be broken to release her captive breath. The complex an overlapping analogies for death challenge the reader to pay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Did Trojan War Begin Over The Love Of Women Trojan war Laura Gibbons For my historical investigation I am looking to the Trojan War. My main focus question is did the Trojan war really begin over the love of a women. The Trojan War is known as a significant event in Greek mythology. According to Homer the Trojan War was a battle at Troybetween Paris of Troy and the Spartans because Paris stole Helen from her husband Menelaus who was the king Sparta. The battle raged on for 10 years until finally the Spartans were victorious due to the Trojan horse battle strategy causing the fall of Troy. Evidence of this battle comes throughout Homers works of Greek literature lliad and odyssey . But were Homers stories the actual reason of one of history s most talked about wars? Was his story s a recount of a different battle? Was a woman really the reason to start a war over? Did Troy actually exist? In his work Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl perfectly executes creating tension within his writing and in doing so within his reader. In his work he creates tension through the inner and outer conflicts between characters, the meticulous decision of characterization, and the conscious choice of places irony in the piece. In the piece Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl naturally creates tension through the inner and outer conflicts of his characters. In the work Roald Dahl has the wife character, Mary Maloney, say to her husband, Patrick, But you must eat! I ll fix it anyway, (3) She says this to Patrick even after he repeatedly tells her to sit down because he is not hungry. This is the first time Mary directly disobeys her husband. This conflict creates tension because it finally breaks her Patrick s thinning patience in the story so far, which leads him to break and tell her news that upsets her. Roald Dahl also creates tension by having Mary kill her husband, which is a conflict with a permanent consequence. On page 5 she thinks, So I ve killed him, this is after Patrick admits something, the details unknown to the reader, that greatly upsets Mary, and the reader s watch as her honest shock turns into a brief moment of violence. The Theory Of Self Defense Self defense is described in the dictionary as; the act of defending one s person when physically attacked, as by countering blows or overcoming an assailant ( self defense, n.d.). The concept of self defense appears well defined; however, the tactics allowed to protect oneself have evolved just as America has. As technology and weaponry advance, the need for clearer laws pertaining to the actions allowed by an individualneed to be reevaluated and clearly communicated. Starting in early colonial times and moving through history, there is a great deal of differences between the self defense that was once permitted and what is acceptable and tolerated today. In early colonial times, Europeans began settling in America. During this time, there was a need for self defense from both the Native Americans who were already settled on the new land and from the European invaders who wanted to take it over. Self defense was originally termed the first law of nature, and citizens were allowed to use deadly force whenever they judged it necessary. This practice of self defense existed during a time where the individual was considered the ... judge, jury, and executioner (Cornell, 2013). While being attacked, an individual was allowed to determine the course of action he or she could take to protect himself or herself whether it be retreating or killing the perpetrator. The Description Of Yahweh From Exodus 34 Essay The description of Yahweh found in Exodus 34:5 7 is a significant and influential passage from the Old Testament text which is foundational for biblical theology, since it provides the most complete description of both the name and the nature of God found anywhere within the scriptural canon. Its significance can is noted by the fact that this passage is quoted and referred back to at least eleven times throughout the Old Testament including in the books of Jeremiah, Joel, Numbers, Nehemiah, Lamentations, Daniel, and 1 Kings.. In order to fully understand the meaning and purpose of this passage, several other passages must be considered which serve both as anticipatory texts and texts which provide contextual meaning. One such text is found in the thirty third chapter of Exodus. The passage from Exodus 34 is especially significant as many characteristics of Yahwehare revealed to Mosesby Yahweh Himself. Another important aspect of this passage is its poeticism and the fact that it reveals the innate characteristics of Godin such a way that demonstrates literary beauty and rhythm. Many phrases and expressions in this passage are presented in pairs. This is augmented by the fact that this passage, in the broadest sense, serves to emphasize the two aspects of God which are most basic. These two aspects are His love and His justice. The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze this passage in Exodus 34, as well as several contextual texts, in order to attempt to grasp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love, symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses on masculinityand femininityinterplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she ... • 24. Descriptive Essay On Beauty I had to decorate my head with flowers and was looking exquisite. My father had prohibited me from using scented perfumes. I also did not have slightest of interest in that. I have been brought up in nature. Where does beauty live? Is it in jewelry or clothes, in the body, in soul or in the eye of the beholder? I was wondering. Four chariots named Rug, Yarju, Sam and Atharva were constructed. The great father Brahma sat on Rug. Twayi and Anwikshika were sitting in Yarju. Varta and Niti were in Atharva. Yarju was decorated with beautiful flowers. A drape of flowers covered the front of the chariot. The fourth chariot Atharva was appearing like a bouquet of red flowers. I sat in the chariot Sam, which was decorated with vines and fragrant flowers. In front of me, a garland of white jasmine was hanging. I was bathing with the fragrance of the flowers. My whole body, my mind, and my soul were all filled with fragrance. No one could see me from outside the chariot. But, I could see through the vines and thorns. I did not know the logic behind bringing me to heaven like a prisoner. I was sitting with suppressed curiosity, but was enjoying the scenery of the Indraloka. Even though heaven s beauty amazed me, my mind was thinking about my motherland, the earth. My playground, the elegant forest on the foothills of the Himalayas was no way less beautiful. I could never accept that my unique mother land is less prosperous than the kingdom of Indraloka. After attending godhood, it was natural to become a lover of luxury. Hence, the kingdom of gods was so much a show off. If my motherland was a selfless hermit, the heaven was a hedonist beauty. If the Indraloka was so attractive, then how attractive Indra would be? After the discussion, I was supposed to come out of the chariot as if for a display. That time I could see without any hindrance and Indradeva could also see me. I remembered my first encounter with Indra. He was visiting my father in the ashram. His chariot was in the garden and I sat in it pretending to navigate it. As soon as I saw him returning to the chariot, I got scared. I slipped and fell while descending from the chariot and twisted my feet. I did not cry. Indradeva was already there. Before he ... After he heard all of them, he says, That Pangloss would be hard put to prove his system. I wish he were here. Certainly, if everything goes well, it is in Eldorado and not in the rest of the world. • 30. Great Leap Forward Summary 10. Diamond characterizes the Great Leap Forward as the stage in human development when humans became seemingly more modern and more similar, biologically and behaviorally, to the human today. This leap occurred around 50,000 years ago, the signs being standardized tools, preserved jewelry, and the completely modern skeletons of the Cro Magnon. 11. The major human achievements that characterize the Great Leap Forward can be defined by the first ever preserved jewelry and methodized tools made out of stone. Other major human achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. The most marvelous as well as most known achievement of the Cro Magnons would have to be their artwork though, due to its wondrous beauty in the eyes of many. 12. It seems that Diamond primarily believed that the extinction of the many mega fauna was entirely the fault of the humans and not at all because of the animals changing habitat. • 34. The Negative Consequences of Discipline One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from harm and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have encouraged and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system. This correlation between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to prison pipeline . Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked? Although this policy has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to minorities, a trend that is largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective, many questions are raised as to the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to students, seeing that expulsions and suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education. Consequently, micro level disciplinary alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them. These alternatives offer a balance between disciplineand the risk of overcriminalization, and include counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central question that is raised throughout this discussion is the objective of the discipline; whether disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass students, or whether it needs to reinforce and teach them why their behavior is wrong. Our Town Is Emily A Tragic Hero Emily as a Modern Tragic Hero Our Town by Thornton Wilder is a play that a first glance appears to be dull and quite ordinary play but if analyzed is a complex tragedy with a deep meaning. It is set in a small town in New Hampshire called Grover s Corners, in the early 1900s, with a population of about 2,000 people. It is enforced throughout the play that the town is not extraordinary and very routine. This foundation is what highlights the overall message that the play conveys; death is inevitable, life is short and always taken for granted. The play also includes many plain characters, one of which is a woman named Emily Webb. This means that the writing, as a whole, has to pertain to the everyday circumstances of ordinary people, and it must do so through a meaningful narrative. The universal interests are synonymous with the basic needsof a human; Anthony Robbins, an American author, philanthropist, and life coach, defines the basic human needs with six terms: contribution, certainty, growth, variety, significance, and love. Abstract This paper will dive into four common unwarranted assumptions made from ability grouping (student tracking) and attempt to debunk the ideas. Ability grouping is the common educational practice of separating students based on actual or purported ability in the same grade into different instructional groups with differing levels of aptitude or achievement (Ainsworth 2013). The four assumptions that will follow were researched by the former presidential professor in equity in the graduate school of education and information studies at UCLA, Jeannie Oakes.
