Summer Employment Research Paper
My senior year of high school was quickly coming to an end, and I found myself looking for a
job for the summer. College cost go up every year and I knew that if I wanted extra spending
money, I would have to contribute. Summer employment is a great way to earn extra money
plus, I am a person who likes to stay busy, and I realized having a job during break would help
accomplish both. Having played multiple sports in high school, I was always doing something
throughout my day and I knew I couldn t have a job like lifeguarding where you have to sit and
watch a pool for hours. I enjoy always having a task to perform or a job to get done. Now that I
knew I wanted to work, I started my first job search by networking with people I thought had

Arriving at work on time and working hard helped to build a good relationship with the team and
with my boss. Hard work proved to the team that I would do my share and Norm even trusted me
to drive The Morgue, one of 3 white vans that we used on all jobs to transfer our equipment and
materials. The morgue was where we kept all the sheets of drywall and I found myself running
to Home Depot, Lowes, and Interior Supply Co. to pick up drywall and supplies. Carrying all
the sheets of drywall was certainly one of the hardest parts of my job, and being a young athlete,
I always found myself doing a large part of the heavy lifting. I didn t know the different weights
of an 8ft, 9ft, 10ft, 12ft, 14ft and a 16ft board until I carried them all more times than I had could
imagined. This exercise also made me vividly aware of the role that the different thicknesses of the
boards plays in the

Rn to Bsn Essay
Competencies between BSN and ADN, RN Nurses There are numerous differences in
competencies between BSN and ADN. Nursing is a dynamic profession and life long learning is
essential for nurses to stay current with the increased complexity of the healthcare needs of today
and into the future. In other words, the needs of our patients are changing, as we must change in
order to be prepared to better serve that need. Nursing has a long history of formal education
which moved out of hospitals and into colleges and universities early last century. The associate

Evaluation Of The National Curriculum Essay
A highly significant change to the national curriculum made at the 2014 update for KS3 is the
introduction of assessment without levels (Department for Education, 2014). The system by which
children were assigned a numerical level based on their attainment was ceased on the
commencement of the new curriculum in September 2014 for all subjects, including science
(Department for Education, 2013). This action was implemented based on a report by the Expert
Panel for the National Curriculum review, which suggested that due to changes made to the
curriculum over various reassessments, the concept of attainment targets, on which level
descriptors were based, had been clouded, making levels difficult to understand and apply
(Department for Education, 2015). This meant that level descriptors were no longer clear and
should be removed to allow assessment to focus more closely on an individuals specific strengths
and weaknesses on the content within the curriculum, rather than simply focus on ensuring that a
child achieved a certain arbitrary level (Expert Panel for the National Curriculum Review, 2011).
The abolition of levels has given schools more freedom to design their own assessment framework
and address the perceived issue that emphasis of levels as a tool for measuring school performance
had led to negative influence on the way individual pupils were assessed (Department for
Education, 2015). Bell (2014) suggests that the introduction of assessment without levels is a

Pavlov s and Erikson s Theories Essay
Ivan Pavlov developed a theory called classical conditioning which proposes that learning process
occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus.
Classical conditioning involves placing a neutral signal before a naturally occurring reflex like
associating the food with the bell in Pavlov experiment. In classical conditioning, behavior is learnt
by association where a stimulus that was originally neutral can become a trigger for substance use
or cravings due to repeated associations between those stimuli and substance use (Pavlov, 1927).
The other aspect in classical conditioning is extinction, which occurs when a conditioned stimulus
is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this care is not given to a child, the child becomes insecure and does not learn to trust others.
This stage therefore, brings hope. The second stage is where the child learns autonomy versus
shame. During this stage the child gains a little control of his or her life thus building self esteem
and autonomy. It is in this stage that the child struggles for his or her own control and to separate
from others. The child learns what is wrong and right by the parent s use of no and this creates the
important skill of will. If not dealt with well, the child may develop shame and doubt. Children with
disability may become shameful and doubtful of their conditions if not well counseled and helped
to negotiate through the stage as Davidson Strauss (1992) notes. During the third stage, the child
learns initiative versus guilt, which occurs during the play age. Here, the child learns to imagine
and to cooperate with peers. With the new found freedom, the individual pursues new tasks that will
empower him or her in order to manage the society s expectations. The development of these
attributes may be hindered by guilt resulting to the individual becoming fearful and continuing to
depend on adults.
The fourth stage is development of industry versus inferiority. As the world enlarges for the child,
he or she learns more formal skills in life like how to relate with peers and neighbors,

Comparison Of Nicolo Machiavelli s The Prince And Sun Tzu
Nicolo Machiavelli s The Prince and Sun Tzu s The Art of War both both provide directions for
leadership with similar goals. The Prince is primarily geared towards providing valuable
information about how a ruler of many principalities may govern different populations and acquire
new lands. The Art of Warprovides us with a schematic of the optimal path to victory. This book is
instead directed towards generals of powerful militaries with only the goal of winning. Concepts
such as Machiavelli s view of destruction will be contrasted with Sun Tzu s victory oriented
argument for taking whole and several of their other ideas will be compared. Although Machiavelli
and Sun Tzu have different intended audiences, many of their ancient tactics can... Show more

Destruction will continue to be significantly inferior to the strategy laid out by Sun Tzu. This
strategy of taking whole could clearly be applied to everyday life as well. A businessman would
likely prefer to acquire a competing company, persuade its valuable employees to stay, and utilize
the entirety of its assets, especially information, rather than buy it out, only to dissolve it and gain
nothing but one less competitor on the market.
Sun Tzu and Machiavelli have similar views on preparation before battle. Both believe that
appropriate preparation ultimately causes victory to lean in the favor of those with little reliance
on circumstance. Machiavelli stated that rulers maintain themselves better if they owe little to
luck. Leaders prepared for battle will not falter under the weight of pressure unlike opposition who
rely on a specific circumstances for their strategy to be effective. Sun Tzu practically implies that
the same exact tactic be used by generals of armies. He says, Therefore, the victorious military is
first victorious and after that does battle. The defeated military first does battle and after that seeks
victory. Sun Tzu s statement seems to provide a more precise strategy which is clearly tailored
more towards a military interested in winning battles rather than a ruler governing a principality.
Sun Tzu s directions are all about

Ptolemy s Theorem Essay
Geometry has always appealed to me, perhaps because of the illustrations provided for every
question or the way that it s seemingly unsolvable, yet if you understand and recognise the
properties of that figure, you would then be able to solve the question with no difficulties.
Therefore, I find it is important to grasp the concept of every property which is why I choose to
delve further into the Ptolemys Theorem.
The Ptolemy s Theorem provides a relationship between the four side lengths and the two diagonals
of a cyclic quadrilateral, an inscribed figure whose vertices lie on a common circle. The theorem
states that when the product of the two pairs of opposites sides are added together, it is equals to
that of the product of the diagonals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ptolemy used the theorem as an aid to creating his table of chords, a trigonometric table that he
applied to astronomy. Claudius Ptolemy born around 90 ce in Egypt was a well known astronomer,
mathematician, astrologer and mathematician. Although much was of his life was lost to history,
Ptolemy was famous for his ground breaking work The Almagest. In his lifetime, Ptolemy explored
a motley array of disciplines, ranging from astronomy and geography, to mathematics, philosophy,
literature and even poetry. He was also the discoverer of the above mathematical theorem now
named after him, the Ptolemy s Theorem. There is also the Ptolemy s inequality, to non cyclic
quadrilaterals.
There are multiple ways that we can approach the figure to proof that the Ptolemy s Theorem is
indeed correct and consistent when the requirements are fulfilled, and below, the cosine law and the
geometric method are just one of the many.
Proof of Ptolemy s Theorem (Cosine Law)
This proof makes use of cosine law to solve. After equating the diagonals to the sides using the
cosine law, we can then use substitution to get one single equation for each diagonal. Obtaining the
equations of the diagonals would then allow us to multiply it to conclude and proof the existence
of the Ptolemy Law. This law is long and requires multiple steps to complete which might result in
careless errors along the

The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate
The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the
theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to
decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of
trough and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen
molecules contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and
carbon dioxideshould decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to
allow the body to be oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such
occurrence. These ideas correlates to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart
rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104 beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to
130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively, when condition had remained the same
(pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the altitude, component such as heart rate carbon
dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and breathing pattern to decrease. This is because
the heart will need to pump more blood and use more oxygen thus increasing the production of
carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a
decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to the results as on table, as an
exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the

Lord Capulet Monologue
Loved ones, I welcome you all to this sorrowful place, to say goodbye to my beloved daughter,
Juliet. If Juliet was here with us today, she would be more than overwhelmed with the audience
attending her funeral. Standing here before you today is one of the hardest things I ve ever had
to do. Words cannot describe the sorrow and loss I am feeling. Juliet was my wife and I s
dearest, only child. She meant the world to us. A very obedient child, yet extremely strong in her
dedication to love, rarely disobeying our wishes, only once... For her darling husband Romeo.
Juliet was born in the city of Verona, 13 years ago, and therefore will be the place she lays forever.

Through the use of emotive language, rhetorical questions, similes and inclusive language, I
was able to portray Lord Capulet s emotion and expression towards his daughter s death. By
following the required eulogy structure, I started my persuasive writing with a simple, yet
formal introduction which gave the audience an impression of Juliet s unique personality, I then
ordered the three body paragraphs in chronological order and ended with a strong, yet personal
conclusion. By including emotive language (e.g. sorrow, loss, saddens) I was able to represent a
range of emotions felt by Juliet s loved ones. I also included the persuasive techniques of attack,
praise and inclusive language. This was in order to understand that a number of people were
feeling this great loss. The rhetorical question (but why did God grant you but half a life?) allows
the audience to wonder and see things from Lord Capulet s point of view. Overall, the above
choices I made allowed my eulogy to become more emotive and captured the attention of the
audience, to allow them to mourn together over the loss of Lord Capulet s daughter,

Saving Private Ryan History
The American uniforms in Saving Private Ryan are also exceedingly accurate to the World War
Two time period. Scene 11 (Dog Tags) has the best depiction of American uniforms. This scene
starts with the main characters sitting at a crate, digging through dog tags to find Ryan s name.
They then take notice of the Airborne Division passing by and stop digging through the tags.
Because of this, they start asking the passing Division if they know Ryan. One of the passing
men does know Ryan and he tells them where he should be. This ends the scene. In this scene
you can clearly see both regular Marine uniforms and Airborne uniforms. In the book Army
Uniforms of World War 2 by Andrew Mollo, he says this about the Airborne uniforms,
Paratroopers wore a special combat dress consisting of steel helmet with forked chin strap and
rubber chin cup, combat jacket with fly front and large diagonal patch breast and side pockets, and
trousers with a large patch pocket on the outside thigh. They also received high lace up brown
leather ankle boots with rubber soles with later became standard army issue. The movie really
nailed these uniforms. They had every thing that should be included in a paratroopers uniforms.

The Mandatory Voting Age
The Proper Voting Age Recently, there has been some debate whether the voting age should be
lowered from 18 to 16, in an attempt to increase voter turnout. Yes, it may succeed in that but I
believe the most important thing beyond voter turnout is educated voting. How much of the age
group of 16 and 17 year olds follow politics closely enough to make an educated decision? Many
younger voters are influenced by their parents; it would just encourage people to have more
children to give them more votes in a particular election. That may sound ridiculous to some but
for something such as the Presidential election it is a possibility. However, for the sake of
argument let s assume giving the power to vote to people at

Analysis Of A Stolen Life
On June 10th, 1991, eleven year old Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped, while walking to her bus
stop, by Phillip and Nancy Garrido. After using a stun gun and dragging her into their car, the
Garrido s proceeded to take Jaycee towards Anaheim, California. Once there, Jaycee lived in
several rundown buildings in the Garrido s backyard for eighteen long years. It was during that
time that Jaycee suffered multiple accounts of abuse, including sexual and emotional, and gave
birth to two daughters. During her stay at the Garrido s, Jaycee s life was stolen for more than
half of the time she had been breathing. However, in August of 2009, thanks to the help of two
police officers, she was rescued. After the rescue, Jaycee felt that it was important that she
shared her story with other kidnapping, abuse, and rape victims to help them know that they are
not alone and to show others to never lose hope. It is because of her thoughts, that Jaycee wrote
her memoir, aptly titled A Stolen Life, which follows her kidnapping story from her first day
gone, to her recovery after being rescued. Throughout the 268 pages of A Stolen Life, I was on
an emotional roller coaster ride as Jaycee told her story through her young eyes and left no
details out. During one of the very first chapters in the memoir, Jaycee describes the first time
Phillip Garrido raped her. I am so small and he is so big. Why is he doing this? Is this normal? (31)

beauty lies in the symmetry of all the parts of the statue to one another and to the whole (Farber).

In order to mollify the harsh realities of today s unacceptable minimum wage, it must be taken upon
the workers, themselves to fight for equality in the corporate world. And they have done just
that. ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation s

social justice and stronger communities. Since 1970, ACORN has grown to more than 175,000

years for the movement to be organized as an expression of imperialism by the middle class. The

as one of the founding members. It started as a fairly small but prominent club, staying under 200

were searching for. Magazines and newspapers at the time took notice of the Alpine Club; Fraser s

The Role of Women in Orthodox Judaism. Essay
The Role of Women in Orthodox Judaism.
Founded by Abraham and Moses, Judaism is almost 4,000 years old and is based on the Jewish
people s covenant relationship with God. In the traditional Judaism belief, women are viewed as
separate but equal to their male counterparts. In other words, although within the religion, women
live under heavier restrictions regarding their responsibilities and obligations, their roles are just as
important as those of the men. In the Orthodox Jewish religion, women are expected to stay at
home and take care of the house and children. They are exempted from all positive mitzvoth that

While the problem of Orthodox men refusing to give a get is most prevalent, many people do
not realize that Orthodox women also have a right to refuse to accept a get (Nelson). Under
those circumstances, both husband and wife have to sign a legally binding which will allow
Jewish court to make the decision regard a get . The court could also fine the man or woman
who refuses to live up to the contract. Due to this law, today every fifth couple in Israel choose
not to get married in the Orthodox way, and every tenth couple lives together without marrying
(Oz 74). In the Orthodox Jewish tradition women are required to dress in modest skirts or
dresses, where their legs, necks, and elbows cannot be seen in public. For that reason, they are
expected to wear sleeves at least to the elbow, blouses or dresses with necklines that do not
expose any cleavage and skirts that cover the knees when seated. This is not because a women s
body is sinful but rather that men are weak, and if they would see too much of a women s skin it
would arouse desires and distract them (Women in North America Judaism). It is also consider
immodest for married women to have uncovered hair in front of men other than her husband, not
because women s hair is considered something evil, but that is considered a beautiful thing and

Benefits Of A Year New Year
Marriage is also like insurance. There is an actually marriage market in Shanghai. This is where
parents shop for a spouse for their child. The parents will place on a board the child s credentials
since as degrees, skills, height, and also a picture. So other parents would literally shop around
like one would shop for a new dress or suit. Another interesting thing is that divorce really isn t an
option. And even if a couple gets divorce it s like an unspoken rule that they have at least one child
first.
Spring Festival better known as Chinese New Yearas to be the most interesting part of the culture.
These two weeks is the most important time of the year. This is the time they stop everything
even quit their jobs and go back home. Many people go to work in big cities since as Shanghai
but they are from many miles away in more rural areas. So during the Chinese New Year they
leave everything behind and go back home, some never return to their jobs.
Other amazing factors are that China does not have Facebook like most of the world. They have
WeChat which is controlled by the government. There is approximately 600 million people that
use WeChat and 98% are Chinese. There are also no private banks, all banks are controlled by
the government. And it takes approximately a month to open up a bank account. China is so well

Psychology is the Scientific Study of Mental and...
INTRODUCTION Psychology is the scientific study of mental and behavior processes. It s thus
seeks to describe, explain, predict, and control the processes involved in areas such as perception,
learning, emotion, and personality. All these topics are the province of the branch of social
psychology. Social psychologists study the nature and causes of our behavior and mental processes
in social institution (Baron Byrne, 1991). As a human being definitely we have a disparity

adapt our self with the social environment. Regarding to understanding the social psychologythe

influences. In subject of social psychologyI learned about the field of psychology that studies the
nature and causes of individual thoughts, feelings, and overt behavior in social situations. Theory

The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure
Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading
assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters,
themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much
different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention
to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own.
Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for
Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto
excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading
for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on
reading for pleasure both positively and negatively?
Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes.
There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world,
such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading
can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book,
magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for
school. It exposes some of these students to reading that would otherwise

Support Center For Student Veterans
Transfer of Learning
The goal of this program will be to develop a support center for student veterans that will enhance
the veteran s cognitive development for achieving success in postsecondary education by
coordinating services to address their academic, financial, physical, and social needs. Caffarella
and Daffron (2013) stress the importance of reasons for the planning of transfer of learning, the
following will show how the veteran s center developed the program to fulfill the reasons/needs for
the center and program (p.215). The first reason being the ad hoc organization and the veteran
students will ask for learning outcomes that apply practical knowledge to make a difference in the
veteran s efforts to balance the many personal, professional, and academic responsibilities in their
lives. The veteran s center and program provide this practical knowledge as shown in Table 1. The
second reason the center and program will be developed is to help the veterans develop solutions
that will create a balanced approach to the responsibilities in their lives. The transfer of learning
plan will be constructed to allow the veteran students to apply their learning to balance the difficult
demands of their lives as previously stated (Caffarella Daffron, 2013, p. 215). Finally, the transfer
of learning plan will assist the veterans to transfer their learning to reflect the changes they
themselves need to make to translate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) (See Appendix

Horatio Alger Myth Research Paper
The Horatio Alger myth is one of the oldest myths in the history of the United States of America.
Horatio Alger was a 19th century author who wrote short stories that all had the same universal
theme: a young man rising from a poor childhood to become a successful adult. Alger s stories
were enormously popular during his time and continue to be so today with the term Alger Myth
become a household saying. The popularity of Alger s stories is not surprising when one considers
America has consistently pushed the notion that anyone can achieve success if they work hard.
Every child in America is told at some point in their life that they can be anything they want to be.

[Logical transition needed here such as Yet, ] The poverty level in America is absurdly high and
produces a large group of children who grow up in an environment where everybody is
struggling to get by on a day to day basis. These children have no actual tangible evidence that
somebody from their neighborhood can achieve the type of success they dream of. The only
hope they have comes from the Alger Myth or other such fables that describe rags to riches
stories. The Alger Myth is thus a useful tool for the American upper class, in the sense that it
gives the lower class a hope for their future and in the process helps to prevent any attempt by the
lower class to overthrow the current economic system, which produces this huge disparity
between the rich and poor. [Good. This effectively politicizes and enlarges the issue.] This
would almost be an acceptable practice if the Alger Myth was true and everyone did have a
chance to succeed regardless of race, sex, or affluence. [Again, emphasize the contrast with a

Date: Fall 2008 The issue that TATA Motors Inc. is facing right now is to predict the viability of
the Project Nano. Also, TATA Motors Inc. wants to know what other steps it can adopt to improve
the chances of success for its newest venture The Nano.
Overview
TATA MotorsInc., part of one of the most respected Business Houses in India TATA Sons INC.,

* It can increase the price on NANO in the developed economies and use part of these higher
profits towards sustainability, thus, improving its brand presence and also achieving its intent
towards society. * TATA can extend the credit period of its suppliers by using its highly
respected brand name and thus, reduce costs and so, improve its margins. * TATA should make
sure that it has a strong distribution and order placement system which makes it easier for its
customers to place and receive orders. * TATA should predict the demand for the NANO which
is to be very high and be prepared for mass production and utilize its highly sophisticated
manufacturing process to the fullest. * TATA Motors has a distinct advantage in entering the
tourist car/Taxi car segment in India as the old tourist vehicle/Taxi Car: the Fiat 1100D is no
longer in production and the other alternatives are priced at a very high rate as compared to the
NANO. * TATA has an advantage in entering the auto rickshaw/Tuk Tuk segment in developing
economies like India, Thailand, Cuba, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the cost of these
vehicles is around the cost of TATA NANO but these vehicles are only 3 wheelers and thus,
occupy lesser people per vehicle.
Conclusion
TATA NANO is a project that will surely be viable in the longer run. Further, it will be a project that
will embark India as the biggest producer of small cars in the world.

Executive Summary In 2009 MARS Inc. has been faced with new challenges in their buying
process of their diesel engine due to changes with their Columbus supplier. The D 342 diesel
engine market is in jeopardy which is why the supplier dropped production and left MARS Inc.
with only one option in suppliers. Having to now deal with only one supplier Tom Sosa, the
purchasing manager, has had to figure out what this change means to MARS Inc. in terms of
transportation cost, inventory and storage costs, and continue the enforcement of MARS INC. s

The cost in transportation rates will increase for MARS Inc. with this change. The Portland
supplier s location to MARS Inc. based on the current situation charges per hundredweight is $10
for carload lots of 50,000 pounds. The less than carload rate is $15 per hundredweight. While
anything coming from the Columbus supplier was offered just in time delivery service at no
charge to MARS Inc. Also, this will affect the EOQ s because dealing with the Columbus supplier
they were located close enough that they offered JIT delivery which allowed the reduction
minimizing work in process inventories (waste) by reducing lot sizes in order to increase
production efficiency and product quality. Now, with the change, it will force MARS Inc. to spend
money on warehousing and carrying cost due to the one week replenishment cycle the Portland
supplier has. 4. What is the difference between all unit quantity discount and incremental discount
schedules? How would the costs and EOQs differ? Which would be preferable assuming that both
share the same cost figures?
The difference between all unit quantity discount and incremental discount schedules are that in the
all units discounts model, as the order quantity increases, the unit purchasing cost decreases, while,
in the incremental quantity discounts case, the unit purchasing cost decreases only for units
beyond a certain threshold and not for every unit as in the all units discounts

Daniel Orozco’s “Orientation”

The short story Orientation by Daniel Orozco is a unique story. Orozco never introduces the
narrator or the audience. The story appears to be, just as the title specifies, an orientation for a
person entering a new job. The story, however, delves deep into the lives of several employees
throughout the story. The lives of these employees and their interactions become the most
important part of Orozco s work and the main character that is being spoken to becomes an
unimportant observer in an intricate atmosphere.

Orozco painfully jolts the reader back to reality, the office setting, no matter how disturbing the
described experiences of an employee have been. This is evident in the passage about Kevin
Howard, the serial killer.
The carnage inflicted is precise: the angle and direction of the incisions; the layering of skin and
muscle tissue; the rearrangement of the visceral organs; and so on. Kevin Howard does not let any
of this interfere with his work. He is, in fact, our fastest typist.
The disturbing description of the serial killer is recited without any waver whatsoever away from
the intent only to divulge information. The narrator makes no personal comment and expresses
no opinion about Howard. After the narrator has given the information to the listener, the
narrator leads the train of thought right back to the work environment. The idea of a horrible
mass murderer is interrupted by his typing ability. This continued contrast now goes past
unstable and borders on psychotic. The far fetched is made believable only because of the
narrator s complete professional façade. By itself, speaking of a mass murderer s typing ability
does seem psychotic, but the narrator has so completely described every aspect of the listener s
new surroundings that any individual part of the surrounding does not seem overly important. The
characters are merely present and described as they are. This description does not affect any
character, so there is no real

Analysis Of The Film Life Is Beautiful

other makes the viewer want to smile but cry at the same time. Roberto Benigni, who also
directed and co wrote the movie, stars as Guido, a hotel waiter in Italy in the 1930s. Watching his
adventures, we are reminded of the legendary Chaplin. The film starts in a scene where Guido
arrives in town in a runaway car with failed brakes and is mistaken for a visiting dignitary. He falls
in love instantly with the beautiful Dora (Nicoletta Braschi, Benigni s real life wife). He becomes
the undeclared rival of her fiance, the Fascist town clerk. He makes friends with the German
doctor (Horst Buchholz) who is a regular guest at the hotel and shares his love of riddles. And
by the fantastic manipulation of carefully planned coincidences, he makes it appear that he is
fated to replace the dour Fascist in Dora s life. Dora who was arranged to be married by the
Fascist town clerk suddenly starts to have second thoughts but because of Guido s charisma and
suave she literarily leaves with Guido on a horse during her engagement party and in one scene
even conspires to meet him on the floor under a banquet table; they kiss, and she whispers, Take

Writing 39A: Academic Essay
27 February 2015
The Truth to the The Things They Carried When reading Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried,
there were many truths that were presented and while some were actual facts, others were fictional.
The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war
story, as a way to express unexplainable emotions. O Brien shows that the truth is unimportant in
communicating human emotions through stories because there are some emotions that can not be
explained through mere facts. In his collection of short shorties, O Brien writes in a style that is
very vivid and often times causes the audience to find themselves accepting the events and details
of these stories as the truth. O Brien contrasts the truth to fiction by reminding the audience that
within these short stories, the details are not the truth and are there to demonstrate the human
emotions that can not be communicated as absolute facts. It is in the Good Form that O brien
presents the actual truth stating in his first sentence, It s time to be blunt, and goes on to say that

Analysis Of Faith And Doubt At Ground Zero
In the documentary Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero, a number of people were interviewed about
how their religious beliefs or non beliefs, were challenged since the events of September 11th. The
interviews with priests, rabbis, family members of victims, survivors, lay people, atheists and
agnostics, this documentary explores how Americans spiritual lives may have changed since the

those people who do not believe in a god, these actions will just prove their beliefs. In the beginning
of the film, people immediately started to questionGod. Some of them started to question why

of questions always come up when something catastrophic happens. Others, however, did not ask
any questions and just accepted what has happened. Kim Coleman, who lost her daughter said,
God knows something I don t, God knows best and knows better than we do. There were also a

Popular Music As Vehicle Of Popular Culture
POPULAR MUSIC AS VEHICLE OF POPULAR CULTURE,
WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO CONTEMPORARY MIZO CULTURE
By Lalven Sanga
INTRODUCTION
The rapid growth of communication and development of media brought about changes to the
human culture and societies. The study of culture is more complex than ever before. Richard H.
Robbins says,
In cultural anthropology, as in every science, we strive to look beyond the world of everyday
experiences to discover the patterns and meanings that lie behind that world.
What lies behind the force and development of contemporary culture of the Mizo how popular
music can serve as an elements or a sub culture of the global popular culture, is what I seek to find
here. Due to the advancement of technologies and mass communication system that reaches almost
every corner of Mizoram, it is important to research on the media that is significant to the Mizo
culture. In this research, I look at the backgrounds, definitions, anthropological approaches for my
thesis, and how popular music and popular culture interacts in Mizo culture.

The Existence Of God. Throughout The Years As Human Beings
The Existence of God Throughout the years as human beings keep learning about the world we are
finding out that we are living in a world where evil surrounds us. This belief conflicts with the
beliefs of theism, one who believes in a God or Gods, especially a personal God who s in control of
the world. If there was an all powerful, all knowing, and all good God, then he should have the
knowledge that there s evil in the world, he should have the benevolence to want to stop the evil,
and he should have the ability to make the evil vanish. We can know that the problem of evil exists
in the world by having to experience it only a few times and the suffering caused by this evil is
something no human would want happening to them. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An uncontrollable and unnecessary evil is the example of all powerful, all knowing, and all evil
being known as Satan. Some try to justify evil by blaming it on Satan. God doesn t create evil;
Satan does (taken from Doing Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn). This argument helps solidify the
theistic beliefs that there s an all powerful, all knowing, and all good God who is aware of how
much evils is brought in the world by humans and is able to control it and keep it in equilibrium
with the good. If we were controlled by a force beyond our control like God, then we would be
perfectly good beings who would always choose the good decision over the evil one. Some of
the evil in this world is said to be caused by humans and the choices we choose. This is
implemented that we live in a world where our actions aren t constrained by any limiting factor,
meaning we have the freewill to choose to act on our own moral values and choose between evil
or good. These people believe that, the price we pay for having free will is the existence of evil
(taken from Doing Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn). Although some argue that, a being who has free
will and yet always choose the good does not seem to be logically impossible (taken from Doing
Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn) we get a sense that we aren t born that way since we all were raised
with different

They opened the door and there was this little girl and her baby bunny wrapped in a blanket and
there was nobody else. The girl had a necklace with a butterfly on, but nothing else. The young
couple took the little girl and her bunny into the small house, and took care of them.
The years went by and Ophelia, her bunny Frank and the young couple became a family. Ophelia

said Because your necklace is special and it only works if you have it. You can do exactly
whatever you want when you have that necklace, but only you can do it. And we need that power

Comparing the Theme of Abandonment in Amy Tan s The Joy...
Theme of Abandonment in Kitchen God s Wife and Joy Luck Club
One of the themes included in both The Kitchen God s Wife and The Joy Luck Club is that of
abandonment. In The Kitchen God s Wife, the character of Winnie Louie is abandoned by her
mother when she was a young child. In The Joy Luck Club, Suyuan Woo has to abandon her twin
daughters on the road as she is escaping war torn China.
In The Joy Luck Club, Suyuan Woo is forced to abandon her twin daughters at the side of the road
in a desperate act to give them a chance to live. Throughout her life she is haunted by this memory:

of one baby and money under the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She would go down the road to find some food and would be back. And without looking back, she
walked down the road, stumbling and crying, thinking only of this last hope, that her daughters
would be found by a kindhearted person who would care for them. She would not allow herself to
imagine anything else (Joy 325).
Suyuan Woo eventually stumbles onto a shelter for refugees. She is delirious with madness and
disease, but is slowly nursed back to health. When she returns to the address she left with the twins,
she finds it destroyed by war and realizes the chances of finding her daughters are hopeless. Suyuan
continues to live her life without knowing whether her daughters survived, where they are, or if she
will ever be reunited with them.
InThe Kitchen God s Wife, six year old Winnie is abandoned by her mother under mysterious
circumstances. She is then sent away from her father s prosperous household in Shanghai to live
with her father s brother and his family. Winnie, even sixty years later, still recalls the painful
memories of when her mother abandoned her:
For many years, my mother was the source of funny and bad stories, terrible secrets and romantic
tales....I felt so bad to hear them. And yet I could not stop myself from listening. I wanted to know
how it could be that my mother left me, never telling me why...Now I no longer know which story

What Is My Opinion About The Statement What You Already Have
1) What is my opinion about the statement, What you are missing you already have ? I totally
agree with it, since I have seen it play out in my life. I grew up in a household of lack thinkers. It
was common to hear things like; It s always something, People like us can t just can t get ahead,

wanted. The perfect job, car, situation always seemed to be just out of grasp. I paid for a New

Graduate Education program (Ed.D.) at Hamline University in 2001 2003. I felt like an
imposter. Especially since my fellow classmates were all elementary school classroom teachers.
I could not identify with their mind set, jargon or profession. Therefore, I created obstacles for
myself. What happened? I eventually withdrew from the Ed.D. program. I felt an overwhelming
sense of inadequacy and failure. I still do not talk about it much. However, I ve come to realize
that everything happens for a reason and I am better off now for having the experience. 4)

  • 5. Evaluation Of The National Curriculum Essay A highly significant change to the national curriculum made at the 2014 update for KS3 is the introduction of assessment without levels (Department for Education, 2014). The system by which children were assigned a numerical level based on their attainment was ceased on the commencement of the new curriculum in September 2014 for all subjects, including science (Department for Education, 2013). This action was implemented based on a report by the Expert Panel for the National Curriculum review, which suggested that due to changes made to the curriculum over various reassessments, the concept of attainment targets, on which level descriptors were based, had been clouded, making levels difficult to understand and apply (Department for Education, 2015). This meant that level descriptors were no longer clear and should be removed to allow assessment to focus more closely on an individuals specific strengths and weaknesses on the content within the curriculum, rather than simply focus on ensuring that a child achieved a certain arbitrary level (Expert Panel for the National Curriculum Review, 2011). The abolition of levels has given schools more freedom to design their own assessment framework and address the perceived issue that emphasis of levels as a tool for measuring school performance had led to negative influence on the way individual pupils were assessed (Department for Education, 2015). Pavlov s and Erikson s Theories Essay Ivan Pavlov developed a theory called classical conditioning which proposes that learning process occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. Classical conditioning involves placing a neutral signal before a naturally occurring reflex like associating the food with the bell in Pavlov experiment. In classical conditioning, behavior is learnt by association where a stimulus that was originally neutral can become a trigger for substance use or cravings due to repeated associations between those stimuli and substance use (Pavlov, 1927). The other aspect in classical conditioning is extinction, which occurs when a conditioned stimulus is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this care is not given to a child, the child becomes insecure and does not learn to trust others. This stage therefore, brings hope. The second stage is where the child learns autonomy versus shame. During this stage the child gains a little control of his or her life thus building self esteem and autonomy. It is in this stage that the child struggles for his or her own control and to separate from others. The child learns what is wrong and right by the parent s use of no and this creates the important skill of will. If not dealt with well, the child may develop shame and doubt. Children with disability may become shameful and doubtful of their conditions if not well counseled and helped to negotiate through the stage as Davidson Strauss (1992) notes. During the third stage, the child learns initiative versus guilt, which occurs during the play age. Here, the child learns to imagine and to cooperate with peers. With the new found freedom, the individual pursues new tasks that will empower him or her in order to manage the society s expectations. The development of these attributes may be hindered by guilt resulting to the individual becoming fearful and continuing to depend on adults. The fourth stage is development of industry versus inferiority. As the world enlarges for the child, he or she learns more formal skills in life like how to relate with peers and neighbors, ... The Art of Warprovides us with a schematic of the optimal path to victory. This book is instead directed towards generals of powerful militaries with only the goal of winning. Destruction will continue to be significantly inferior to the strategy laid out by Sun Tzu. This strategy of taking whole could clearly be applied to everyday life as well. A businessman would likely prefer to acquire a competing company, persuade its valuable employees to stay, and utilize the entirety of its assets, especially information, rather than buy it out, only to dissolve it and gain nothing but one less competitor on the market. Sun Tzu and Machiavelli have similar views on preparation before battle. Both believe that appropriate preparation ultimately causes victory to lean in the favor of those with little reliance on circumstance. Machiavelli stated that rulers maintain themselves better if they owe little to luck. Leaders prepared for battle will not falter under the weight of pressure unlike opposition who rely on a specific circumstances for their strategy to be effective. Sun Tzu practically implies that the same exact tactic be used by generals of armies. He says, Therefore, the victorious military is first victorious and after that does battle. The Ptolemy s Theorem provides a relationship between the four side lengths and the two diagonals of a cyclic quadrilateral, an inscribed figure whose vertices lie on a common circle. Claudius Ptolemy born around 90 ce in Egypt was a well known astronomer, mathematician, astrologer and mathematician. Although much was of his life was lost to history, Ptolemy was famous for his ground breaking work The Almagest. In his lifetime, Ptolemy explored a motley array of disciplines, ranging from astronomy and geography, to mathematics, philosophy, literature and even poetry. He was also the discoverer of the above mathematical theorem now named after him, the Ptolemy s Theorem. There is also the Ptolemy s inequality, to non cyclic quadrilaterals. There are multiple ways that we can approach the figure to proof that the Ptolemy s Theorem is indeed correct and consistent when the requirements are fulfilled, and below, the cosine law and the geometric method are just one of the many. Proof of Ptolemy s Theorem (Cosine Law) This proof makes use of cosine law to solve. After equating the diagonals to the sides using the cosine law, we can then use substitution to get one single equation for each diagonal. • 10. The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of trough and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen molecules contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and carbon dioxideshould decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to allow the body to be oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such occurrence. These ideas correlates to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104 beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to 130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively, when condition had remained the same (pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the altitude, component such as heart rate carbon dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and breathing pattern to decrease. This is because the heart will need to pump more blood and use more oxygen thus increasing the production of carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to the results as on table, as an exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters, themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own. Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on reading for pleasure both positively and negatively? Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes. There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world, such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book, magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for school. It exposes some of these students to reading that would otherwise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first reason being the ad hoc organization and the veteran students will ask for learning outcomes that apply practical knowledge to make a difference in the veteran s efforts to balance the many personal, professional, and academic responsibilities in their lives. The veteran s center and program provide this practical knowledge as shown in Table 1. The second reason the center and program will be developed is to help the veterans develop solutions that will create a balanced approach to the responsibilities in their lives. The transfer of learning plan will be constructed to allow the veteran students to apply their learning to balance the difficult demands of their lives as previously stated (Caffarella Daffron, 2013, p. 215). • 26. Horatio Alger Myth Research Paper The Horatio Alger myth is one of the oldest myths in the history of the United States of America. Horatio Alger was a 19th century author who wrote short stories that all had the same universal theme: a young man rising from a poor childhood to become a successful adult. Alger s stories were enormously popular during his time and continue to be so today with the term Alger Myth become a household saying. The popularity of Alger s stories is not surprising when one considers America has consistently pushed the notion that anyone can achieve success if they work hard. Every child in America is told at some point in their life that they can be anything they want to be. This myth is as much a part of American culture as apple pie or baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [Logical transition needed here such as Yet, ] The poverty level in America is absurdly high and produces a large group of children who grow up in an environment where everybody is struggling to get by on a day to day basis. These children have no actual tangible evidence that somebody from their neighborhood can achieve the type of success they dream of. The only hope they have comes from the Alger Myth or other such fables that describe rags to riches stories. The Alger Myth is thus a useful tool for the American upper class, in the sense that it gives the lower class a hope for their future and in the process helps to prevent any attempt by the lower class to overthrow the current economic system, which produces this huge disparity between the rich and poor. [Good. This effectively politicizes and enlarges the issue.] This would almost be an acceptable practice if the Alger Myth was true and everyone did have a chance to succeed regardless of race, sex, or affluence. The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war story, as a way to express unexplainable emotions.
