Gastritis is defined as inflammation of the stomach lining that is usually confirmed by biopsy. It is most often caused by infectious agents like Helicobacter pylori or autoimmune and hypersensitivity reactions. Gastropathy refers to epithelial cell damage and regeneration without associated inflammation, and is typically caused by irritants such as drugs, bile reflux, dehydration, and congestion. While gastritis requires biopsy for confirmation, gastropathy can be diagnosed based on appearance during endoscopy or radiology without histological evidence.
