G321 Evaluation Question 5
Amy-Jane Curtis
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Intertextual references
• I ensured that I included intetextual references from the very Start of my thriller
by creating my opening sequence in the same Style as old noir thrillers such as
‘Mildred Pierce’ I felt that this would create an accurate atmosphere for the
audience to gather the genre
• ‘Psycho’ features a close up, slow motion shot of Marion’s hand falling down the
wall, this creates a tense atmosphere which makes the audience want to watch
on, therefore we wanted to take the idea of this and use it in our film.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Cliffhanger
From my audience feedback, most
viewers indicated that the ending of the thriller
was very mysterious as there is no clear
reasoning as to why Eve killed the two men.
Adding to the mystery is the fact that a
seemingly innocent woman has committed this
act, normally associated with male characters,
this leaves the audience with all kinds of
questions which means they will continue to
watch on to find out the true meaning behind
This act.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Narrative structure
• Our film contains a linear narrative, meaning that
each scene is in chronological order, this was in
order to make it easier for the audience to
understand and follow, which would make them
want to continue watching. We avoided a
complicated narrative structure as this would
have confused the audience. If the audience
became confused, it would be harder for them to
concentrate and understand the film.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Mise-en-scene
• The costumes that we chose are sophisticated, upper class
and representational of the 1950s era. This means that the
older generation may be enticed to watch the film as they can
reminisce on their past. It may also appeal to anyone else if
they find the costumes appealing to the eye.
• The lighting that we used was all natural and the light in the
room was fitting with the scene, this was in order to make it
more relatable to the audience, hopefully encouraging them
to watch.
• Both soundtracks that I used were 1950s style jazz pieces, this
was in order to fit with the genre and era of the film, the
music starts off with slower, smooth jazz then changes to a
more up beat and loud piece as the action builds, this change
in music Is in order to keep the audience interested
