Improved Power Quality by using STATCOM Under Various Loading ConditionsIJMTST Journal
A Power quality problem is an occurrence manifested as a nonstandard voltage, current or frequency that
results in a failure or a mis-operation of end user equipment’s. Utility distribution networks, sensitive
industrial loads and critical commercial operations suffer from various types of outages and service

behavior of switching operation and these are measured according to national/international guidelines.

Reactive power sharing in microgrid using virtual voltage IJECEIAES
The traditional droop control strategy has been applied previously in microgrids (MGs) to share accurately the active power. However, in some cases the result obtained when sharing reactive power is not the best, because of the parameters related to the distances from distributed generators (DGs) to the loads and the power variations. Therefore, this paper proposes a reactive power control strategy for a low voltage MG, where the unequal impedance related to the distances between generators and loads requires adjustments to work with the conventional frequency and voltage droop methods. Thus, an additional coefficient is calculated from parameters of the network that relate the location of elements. The test is perfomed by simulations in the MATLAB-Simulink software, considering a three-node MG with three DGs and a load that can change power at different periods of time. The results show that it is possible to improve reactive power sharing between the DGs located in the MG according to the load changes simulated and to improve voltages with this method.
Operational performance of a PV generator feeding DC shunt and induction moto...IJECEIAES
This paper presented the transient and operational behavior of a parallel Combination of DC Shunt Motor and IM fed by a photovoltaic generator at different solar irradiance levels. The maximum power point of current/voltage (I/V) characteristic of the PV generator was achieved for different solar intensities, by utilizing an open circuit voltage method. The nonlinear operational behavior of (I/V) characteristics of the PV generator at various solar intensities and the magnetization curve of the ferromagnetic material of the DC shunt motor were both modeled by high order polynomial mathematical expressions. The study investigated the response of the system at different solar irradiance levels and changing the torque loads for both motors and then following step change in solar intensity levels with fixed loading torques for both motors. All numerical simulations were executed using MATLAB software.

MPPT oscillations minimization in PV system by controlling non-linear dynamic...IJECEIAES
Solar PV power generation has achieved rapid growth in developing countries which has many merits such as absence of noise, longer life, no pollution, less time for installation, and ease of grid interface. A maximum power point tracking circuit (MPPT) consists of DC-DC power electronics converters that are used to improve the energy attainment from solar PV array. This paper presents a detailed analysis to control of chaos, a non-linear dynamic in SEPIC DC-DC converter interfaced solar PV system, to minimize the oscillations near to MPP. In SEPIC DC-DC converter, the input inductor current is continuous and capable of sweeping the whole I-V curve of a PV module from open circuit voltage (V oc ) to short circuit current (I sc ) operating points. To trace the true maximum power point and to nullify the oscillations near to MPP, the yield output voltage needs to ensure period-1 operation.
Grid tied photovoltaic (PV) system is an operation mode of PV system working together with utility power supply to provide power to the power load. Conventionally, transformer is used together with the power inverter. The power transformer works as galvanic insolation amongst PV system and power grid. It works also to raise the voltage of power inverter. However, use of transformer will add system complexity, price, weight and size of the entire system. Transformer-less system is an alternative to make the system simpler and more practical in use. The paper discusses performance of transformer-less grid tied PV systems using diode clamped and neutral point shorted inverters. Effects of transformer elimination to the feat of the grid tied PV system especially harmonics content and leakage current of PV system were examined and analyzed. The performance was also compared with the traditional system using H-bridge inverter. The leakage currents did not flow in the system applying diode clamped inverter, and neutral point shorted inverter. In case of harmonics content, the diode clamped inverter injected less harmonics components than the neutral point shorted inverter. The neutral point shorted provides a simpler inverter circuit in the transformerless systems.

An optimum location of on-grid bifacial based photovoltaic system in Iraq IJECEIAES
Bifacial photovoltaic (PV) module can gain 30% more energy compared to monofacial if a suitable location were chosen. Iraq (a Middle East country) has a variable irradiation level according to its geographic coordinates, thus, the performance of PV systems differs. This paper an array (17 series, 13 parallel) was chosen to produce 100 kWp for an on-grid PV system. It investigates the PV system in three cities in Iraq (Mosul, Baghdad, and Basrah). Effect of albedo factor, high and pitch of the bifacial module on energy yield have been studied using PVsyst (software). It has been found that the effect is less for a pitch greater than 6 m. The energy gained from bifacial and monofacial PV system module in these cities shows that Mosul is the most suitable for installing both PV systems followed by Baghdad and lastly Basrah. However, in Basrah, the bifacial gain is 12% higher in the energy than monofacial as irradiation there is higher than the other locations, especially for elevation above 1.5 m. Moreover, the cost of bifacial array is 7.23% higher than monofacial, but this additional cost is acceptable since the bifacial gain is about 11.3% higher energy compared to the monofacial.

Flexible ac transmission systems (FACTSs) and voltage-source converters, with smart dynamic controllers, are emerging as a stabilization and power filtering equipment to improve the power quality. Also, distributed FACTSs play an important role in improving the power factor, energy utilization, enhancing the power quality, and ensuring efficient energy utilization and energy management in grids. This paper presents a literature survey of FACTS technology tools and applications for power quality and efficient utilization of electric system. There are some drawbacks of FACTS devices. These drawbacks can be fulfilled by using new compound, scalable, light weighted and cost effective devices that are distributed-FACTS (D-FACTS). D-FACTS controllers are distributed version of conventional lumped FACTS controllers and their cost is low due to lower ratings of component and reliability also increases due to redundancy of devices. The Enhanced Power Flow Controller (EPFC) is a D-FACTS controller which is distributed version of thyristor controlled series controller. DPFC controllers are used in series at small distance gap at every 5-10 km distance with transmission line to control the power flow. Abstract: Dance is a form of art that normally involves rhythmic movement of the body and accompanied with
music. Movement of human body while performing dance can become a significant medium for communication,
feelings and emotions. It embraces movement, creation and performance. Dance helps to extend the limits of
human physical ability, expressiveness and spirit. When it comes to health dance can be a very effective way of
establishing a lasting healthy living. Anecdotally it can be said that dance potentially motivate and excite young
people. Dance is a non-competitive form of exercise which has positive effects on physical and mental health.
Young girls can be engaged in physical activity through dance. The author being a dancer in fervor and passion
as well as an aspirant of the profession Physical Education strived to conduct the study bearing the title “A
Comparative Study on Balance and Flexibility between Dancer and Non-Dancer Girls”. The researcher
selected 30 girls who are regularly involved in Dance and 30 girls who are non-dancer or rather sedentary on
the basis of purposive stratified random sampling from Bidhan Govt. Girl’s School, Dist. Nadia West Bengal as
the subjects of her study. She incorporated Sit and Reach test and Stork Stand Balance tests for assessment of
Flexibility and Balance respectively. With respect to data analysis initially descriptive statics like mean SD and
range and further paired sample T test was conducted to ascertain the degree of difference between the means
with the help of SPSS soft ware. Data analysis proved significant difference between the Dancer and NonDancer
girls both with respect to flexibility and Balance. In both the cases the Dancer girls proved to be better
though the differences were not statistically significant. Thus the author arrived at the conclusion that dance
involving passion, strength, stamina, enthusiasm, rhythm, amusement and many more could be a wonderful
fitness activity similar to other fitness activities like jogging, running, cycling, swimming etc.
Key words: Dance, Flexibility, Balance, Dancer, Non-Dancer.

Neural Network For The Estimation Of Ammonia Concentration In Breath Of Kidne...IOSR Journals
Neural networks are an extremely powerful tool for data mining. They are especially useful in cases
involving data classification where it is difficult to establish a pattern in the search space. In an era when
artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilised in industrial and medical applications throughout the world,
it is becoming evident that this is an emerging trend. This paper explores the idea of artificial intelligence by
employing the use of a feed-forward neural network with two process layers to determine the concentration of
ammonia in exhaled human breath. The human mouth contains many kinds of substances both in liquid and
gaseous form. The individual concentrations of each of these substances could provide useful insight to the
health condition of the entire body. Ammonia is one of such substances whose concentration in the mouth has
revealed the presence or absence of diseases in the body. Kidney failure is one diesease which is identified by
an extremely high ammonia content in human breath. This disease is as a result of the kidneys’ inability to
process the body’s liquid waste. The result of this is the release of urea throughout the body which is dissipated
in the form of ammonia through oral breath. The neural simulation is carried out using NeuroSolutions version
5 software. The neural network correctly identified the concentration of oral ammonia as an indication of
kidney failure with an accuracy of 85%.

Abstract: Two- dimensional &Three–dimensional (3-D) image segmentation is on of the most demanding tasks in image processing. It has been proven that only the 14-neighborship of a rhombic dodecahedron can satisfy the aforementioned requirements. The 3-D-GSC process is executed in the following three phases ,coding phases, linking phases, splitting phases. An FPGA-based digital signal processing board optimized for applications needing large memory with high bandwidth has been developed and successfully used for the parallelization of a modern image segmentation algorithm for medical and industrial real-time applications. The Use of this 128-bit coprocessor board is not limited to image segmentation. We propose the perfectly parallelizable 3-D Gray-Value Structure Code (3-D-GSC) for image segmentation on a new FPGA custom machine. This paper focus on distribution system by applying different control techniques in order to improve the performance of the system. In the distribution system mainly concentrate on power quality issues like reactive power control, harmonic elimination, power factor correction, etc. Because of power quality problems voltage, current, frequency are continuously changing in power systems. These changes will effects the performance of power systems. Power quality problems can be compensated by placing DSTATCOM which is connected at PCC in parallel. It is shunt connected VSI along with the filters, with the help of DSTATCOM voltage sag, swell and THD can be controlled. This paper presents detailed explanation about performance and configuration of latest control techniques to control the DSTATCOM.

Enhancement of power quality using microprocessor based shunt active power fi...IJECEIAES
Power quality is the most significant factor of power sector. The end user equipment such as induction motor, inverters, rectifiers inject harmonics into power system that influences the quality of power delivered. The presence of harmonics forces the use of instantaneous reactive power theory to calculate instantaneous power that helps in finding the compensating currents to eliminate harmonics. The control action required by active filter is accomplished by STM32F303RET6 microcontroller. Single phase induction motor is used as a dynamic nonlinear load in one of the three phases and resistive loads on the other two phases. TRIAC based RC triggering circuit was used to control the single phase induction motor. This paper presents the simulation and hardware implementation of shunt active power filter for 3 phase 4 wire unbalanced system. The hardware results show that THD in the source side has been reduced from 50.7% to 9.6% by implementing the SAPF.

Power quality is one big issue in power system and a big challenge for power engineers today. Electrical consumers (or otherwise load devices) expect electrical power received power should be of first-class. Bad quality in electrical power directs to fuse blowing, machine overheating, increase in distribution losses, damage to sensitive load devices and many more. DSTATCOM is one of the FACTS controllers designed to improve the quality in electrical power and thus improving the performance of distribution system. This paper presents a multilevel DSTATCOM topology to enhance power quality in power distribution system delivering high-quality power to the customer load devices. Diode-clamped structure is employed for multi-level DSTATCOM structure. ‘PQ’ based control strategy generates reference signal which is further processed through level-shifted multi-carrier PWM strategy for the generation of gate pulses to multi-level DSTATCOM structure. Simulation work of proposed system is developed and the result analysis is presented using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Performance of multi-level DSTATCOM topology is verified with fixed and variable loads.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Abstract: Now a days with increasing verity of load and awareness of consumers, quality of power is becoming
very important issue. Whenever load is either switched on or off, the impedance of line changes. This change in
impedance causes unbalance in total power supplied and total power demand. As power is directly proportional
to square of voltage, so the magnitude of voltage is affected. As load in power system changes at rapid rate, the
magnitude of voltage also changes at the same rate .This regular change in magnitude of voltage causes
distortion in standard waveform of voltage. For the better power quality there are two things to consider that
voltage waveform should be undistorted and magnitude should be constant. So it can be said that quality of
power gets distorted at continuous basis .The lack of power quality can cause loss of damage of equipment, loss
of production or even can lead system towards instability. So the design of the power system should be such that
stability of the system is maintained by overcoming all these variations..This paper presents enhancement of
voltage stability thus indirectly improving power quality using D-STATCOM. . Power quality aspects like
voltage regulation, active and reactive power supplied are discussed and implemented using STATCOM
simulated in MATLAB version R2009b.
Keywords: DSTATCOM, Voltage Source Inverter(VSI), voltage stability
I. Introduction
In early days of development of power system, the demand and utility was far less than modern days of
globalization and privatization of system. In modern scenario the use of electricity is increasing. The effect of
which is in terms of increasing demand from the system. Because of environmental and economical reasons
there is shortage of power. To meet the required demand there are two ways- one is to enhance the power
generation and other is to utilize the available power in better way. The former is less possible because of
limited resources available. Thus main emphasis lies on the latter technique. One method is to stop
malfunctioning of loads connected to the system .With introduction of new technologies, loads are becoming
more sensitive towards quality of power supply and consumers are becoming more aware of power quality. To
implement the said proposal and to meet consumers expectations the power quality of system should be
improved. With the introduction of power electronics devices in the field of controlling and handling the power
quality issues, the systems are becoming more reliable and stable. FACTS devices which are fast in operation
and have no rotating parts are such power electronics converters widely used to improve power quality issues.
Distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM) is one of the FACTS devices used to enhance power system
stability and quality.
II. Working Principle Of D-Statcom
STATCOM consist of a inverter made up of IGBT or GTO acting as self commutated switches , a DC
voltage source an interconnecting transformer, and controller which controls the switching time of various
switches in inverter legs. The STATCOM is capable of generating continuously variable inductive or capacitive
shunt compensation at a level up its maximum MVA rating. The STATCOM constantly checks the line
waveform with respect to a reference ac signal, and therefore, it can provide the correct amount of leading or
lagging reactive power compensation to reduce the amount of voltage fluctuations. if the output voltage of the
voltage source converter is greater than the system voltage then the DSATCOM will act as capacitor and
generate reactive power otherwise it will act as inductor to absorb reactive power. The working principle of
DSTATCOM is shown in Fig.1.

III. Matlab/Simulink Model Of D-Statcom
The models are developed and simulated in MATLAB using simulink and power system block set
(PSB) tool boxes. A four bus system with two generating units, nonlinear load and LG faults modeled in
MATLAB. Two generators of 2100MVA and 1400MVA,two transformers of 2100 MVA, 13.8kv/500kv and
1400MVA, 13.8kv/500kv are connected in the system. Two loads each of 250 ohm are connected at bus1 and
bus3. A single phase fault is shown to occur at line L3 between bus3 and bus4. Data acquisition is done to
observe the variation of voltage, active power, reactive power and to see the results, scope is connected in both
the cases when STATCOM is not connected and when it is connected. The simulink diagrams and results are
shown in this paper.

Table 2 Simulation results with STATCOM
It is observed that voltage regulation is done using STATCOM . Without STATCOM , the voltage was
deviating between 1.0222-1.0228 for bus 1 ,whereas using STATCOM the voltage stabilizes at 1.01 pu.
Similarly it can be observed that voltage across all the buses is regulated to 1 pu. The STACOM supplies active
or reactive power to the system to stabilize the voltage .hence it is observed that when STATCOM was not there
in the system, active power transferred from one point to the other is constant. And when STATCOM is used it
transferred active power according to the requirement. The power transferred deviates between a range.
V. Conclusion
Based on obtained simulation results the performance of STATCOM has been examined in
multimachine system . It has been found that STATCOM maintains the active and reactive powers to regulate
the voltage profile of the system. The voltage profile and hence power quality of the system is improved using
DSTATCOM.
