This session hosted by the APM London Branch is open to anyone who would like to know more about the requirements, process, and benefits of applying for the chartership. There will be a short introduction and overview by Rebecca Fox, APM Director of Membership, followed by the opportunity to ask questions and hear from chartered project professionals who will share useful insights from their own experience.

4. How to check if you are ready for
chartered
 You are professionally active with a proven track record of delivering projects,
programmes, portfolios or a key control or enabling function.
 These projects, programmes or portfolios exhibit characteristics of complexity.
 You have the required breadth of project experience to meet the requirements
of ten mandatory and two elective competences.
 You have an advanced technical knowledge and are able to confidently evaluate
and analyse theory of current practices and methods.
 You are committed to continuing professional development and an ethical way
of working.

5. What is being assessed?
Technical knowledge
Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of how to deliver projects,
programmes or portfolios, taking into account many interacting factors and different
approaches that could be taken.

6. What is being assessed?
Professional practice
Application of knowledge to deliver projects, programmes or portfolios that involved:
 Uncertainty or conflicting objectives
 High levels of unpredictability or risk
 Multiple work packages, projects or programmes
 Multiple interdependent stakeholders, possibly with competing interests.

7. What is being assessed?
CPD and Ethics
Applicants must commit and demonstrate professional ethics and show continued
professional development (CPD) – min 35 hours in the preceding 12 months (uphold
35+ hrs each year)

8. Routes to chartered
Route one : for those who have a recognised assessment
for technical knowledge. (£750 split £390 + £360*)
Route two: for those who have a recognised assessment
for technical knowledge and professional practice. (£250*)
Route three: an experiential route for those who do not
have a recognised assessment but do meet the eligibility criteria.
(£1110 split £610 + £500*)

For those who have a recognised assessment for technical knowledge
STAGE ONE
Assessment of professional practice via written submission
 Project overviews (provide up to 4 projects) 500 words
 Evidence against 12 competence areas – 250 words each
10 Mandatory & 2 Elective
(minimum 4 criteria per competence)
Evidence of recognised assessment
Provide professionally active statement if most recent
project, programme or portfolio is more than five years
old
Declaration of up-to-date CPD.
Confirm that you have read, understood and will abide by
APM’s Code of Professional Conduct
2 Proposers
STAGE TWO
Up to one hour face-to-face interview to cover:
 clarification questions on your project overviews (if
applicable);
 clarification questions on your professionally active statement
(if applicable);
 questions on six competence areas from your written
submission (chosen by the assessors)
 questions on ethics
 Any additional evidence you would like to add to support your
application. Applicants will have up to five minutes to provide
this.

10. Route two
For those who have a recognised assessment for technical knowledge and
professional practice
STAGE TWO
Up to 30 minute phone interview to cover:
 Clarification questions on your professionally active statement
(if applicable);
 Clarification questions on your CPD submission (if applicable)
 CPD: discussion of competences related to CPD.
 Questions on ethics
 Any additional evidence you would like to add to support your
application. applicants will have up to five minutes to provide
this.
STAGE ONE
Upload CPD Log, this should:
 Be a minimum of 35 hours within the past 12 months
 Be project related
 More than 1 activity
 Include reflective statements
 Include areas to focus on for the next 12 months
Evidence of recognised assessment
Provide professionally active statement if your
recognised assessment is more than five years old
Confirm that you have read, understood and will abide by
APM’s Code of Professional Conduct

11. Route three
An experiential route for those who do not have a recognised assessment
but do meet the eligibility criteria
STAGE TWO
Up to two hour face-to-face interview to cover:
 Clarification questions on your project overviews (if
applicable);
 Clarification questions on your professionally active
statement (if applicable);
 Questions on six competence areas from your written
submission in relation to professional practice (chosen by the
assessors)
 Questions on four competence areas from your written
submission in relation to technical knowledge
(chosen by the assessors)
 Questions on ethics
 Any additional evidence you would like to add to support your
application. Applicants will have up to five minutes to provide
this.
