The document discusses technologies and strategies for providing education through open and distance learning systems in remote regions of Indonesia, using a case study from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. It finds that most students in remote regions now have access to internet technologies and enjoy studying online. Data from Pontianak Open Distance Learning Unit shows that large numbers of postgraduate students are able to complete their studies on time using online tutorials and materials from the Indonesia Open University website, despite being located in remote areas. Online tutorials provide students with learning materials, communication tools, and access to an online library. Technologies like the internet, mobile devices, and online educational platforms help overcome connectivity challenges in remote regions and make education more accessible.

The adoption of e-learning in developing countries like Indonesian Universities have been focused in urban areas like the big cities, especially in Java island. There is a lack of development of e-learning in a remote city like Kupang East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia which is located far away from the capital city. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of e-learning by analyzing three factors in one of the higher institution in Kupang city, i.e. Sekolah Tinggi Kesehatan Citra Mandiri Husada Kupang (STIKes CHMK). The factors include culture, technology and infrastructure, and content satisfaction. The data were collected using questionnaires. Research shows that with proper preparation for e-learning, the acceptance of e-learning in rural areas is significantly high. This finding suggests that e-learning can greatly benefit the students like Kupang city in developing countries.

The Oxymoron of Serious Games in eLearning: Gender Differences from an Intern...Dr Poonsri Vate-U-Lan
Â
This research study examined gender attitudes towards playing serous games in eLearning contexts as there is a lack of
comprehensive reports and academic commentary on how to apply and link serious games effectively to learning. The results
were based on a large scale Internet-based survey, which involved 803 participants drawn from every region in Thailand. Sixtyone
per cent of participants were females (61.2%) and the majority of them were teenagers and adult (36.8% and 24.1%
respectively). The survey sought information on participantsâ attitudes and behaviours related to their computer game
preferences, game-playing habits and their attitudes to playing computer games. A 5-point Likert scale in comparing the two
gender groups was used. The study addressed its core research question: what are the attitudes and behaviours of each gender
group towards playing educational computer games? Sub questions were asked complementing the overall question and are
elaborated upon in the text. The research results showed that participants chose both virtual game activity on the computer and
actual activity in reality as their favourite activity on an equal basis (39.8%). The actual activity was slightly preferred rather than
the virtual game (29.2% and 24.6% respectively). Almost half the participants chose only an entertaining computer game while a
minority preferred to play educational computer games (49.2% and 15.1% respectively). Actually playing computer games
generated both high levels of positive engagement and anxiety that were blended responses - as opposed to being separate.
Computer games are played for their relaxation but increasing risks of eyestrain featured in this research. The research findings
confirmed that females thought differently about playing computer games to their male counterparts.

Trends and Directions of Technology in Elementary Schools under the Bangkok ...Dr Poonsri Vate-U-Lan
Â
The future can be forecast from a decision based on current knowledge in relation to the trends and directions of computer technology implementation in a school. It depends frequently on the influence of administrators and their knowledge level. It is crucial to study the demand and the confidence level of e-learning implementation in the schools from an administration perspective. In 2013, a group of 120 school administrators attended a seminar workshop on e-learning at a university in Bangkok, Thailand. Fifty-six participants returned the questionnaire. The survey elicited level of their interest towards a combination of instructional approaches and computer technology. The research results are presented in this paper and outline the different levels of their interest towards each computer-technology application. The questionnaire contained questions regarding the potential of e-learning implementation based upon the available infrastructure in their schools. The results showed that e-learning was considered to be an education tool where implementation was not seen as problematic and it was likely to be an addition to the education offerings in schools. The survey also found that social networking was influential among schools, parents and students in relation to the potential benefits of e-learning implementation in schools. The survey indicates that the demand and confidence levels of e-learning implementation at the schools under Bangkok Metropolitan were rated at a high level.
Teaching and learning with Internet-supported technologies - Course syllabusJoan E. Hughes, Ph.D.
Â
In the course participants will examine a myriad of ways the Internet may function within teaching and learning contexts through internet-supported technologies (e.g., web, apps etc.). The course will focus on these technologiesâ capabilities for instructional use, learning, professional development, and research. The course will provide a set of foundational readings to situate your thinking in this educative space. Then you will lead your own experiences with a diverse array of Internet-based instructional and learning tools; it will also encourage you to consider these tools with a critical eye, always determining the advantages and disadvantages of using particular web-supported or web-based tools.
This course focuses on the role of Internet-based technologies within face-to-face or hybrid learning situations and mostly within PK-12 realms. For all uses we consider, we will use the following questions (as well as any you offer) to structure our analysis of Internet uses:
⢠What assumptions about the nature of knowledge and learning does this innovation make (either explicitly or implicitly)?
⢠What unique role does the technology play in facilitating learning?
⢠How is this innovation seen to fit with existing school curriculum (e.g., Is the innovation intended to supplement or supplant existing curriculum? Is it intended to enhance the learning of something already central to the curriculum or some new set of understandings or competencies?)
⢠What demands does the innovation place on the knowledge of teachers or other âusersâ? What knowledge supports does the innovation provide?
⢠How does the technology fit or interact with the social context of learning? (e.g., Are computers used by individuals or groups? Does the technology support collaboration or individual work? What sorts of interaction does the technology facilitate or hinder? Does it change or reify social systems?)
Course goals include:
⢠Understanding the historical context of uses of the Internet and Web for teaching and learning
⢠Experiencing what it is like to be an actor in the âparticipatoryâ or âsemanticâ or âconnectedâ culture of the Web
⢠Developing a critical framework for evaluating web uses in educational contexts
⢠Interpreting (i.e., reading, understanding, interpreting, adapting) educational research that focuses on teaching/learning with the Internet-supported technologies
This course is not about fully online or distance education topics. If you are interested in that topic, consider taking LTâs âOnline Learningâ course(s).

Risk management of telecommunication and engineering laboratorySalam Shah
Â
The Telecommunication laboratory plays an important role in carrying out research in the different fields like Telecommunication, Information Technology, Wireless Sensor Networks, Mobile Networks and many other fields. Every Engineering University has a setup of laboratories for students particularly for Ph.D. scholars to work on the performance analysis of different Telecommunication Networks including WLANs, 3G/4G, and Long Term Evolution (LTE). The laboratories help students to have hand on practice on the theoretical concepts they have learned during the teachings at the university. The technical subjects have a practical part also which boosts the knowledge of students and learning of new ideas. The Telecommunication and Engineering laboratories are equipped with different electronic equipmentâs like digital trainers, simulators etc. and some additional supportive devices like computers, air conditioners, projectors, and large screens, with power backup facility that creates the perfect environment for experimentation. The setup of Telecommunication and Engineering laboratories cost huge amount, required to purchase equipment, and maintain the equipment. In any working environment risk factor is involved. To handle and avoid risks there must be risk management policy to tackle with accidents and other damages during working in the laboratory, may it be human or equipment at risk. In this paper, we have proposed a risk management policy for the Telecommunication and Engineering laboratories, which can be generalized for similar type of laboratories in engineering fields of studies.

Online Learning Conveniences From Studentsâ Perception: A Case Study in Unive...inventionjournals
Â
ABSTARCT : Convenience is one aspect that should be considered in an online learning environment. Without convenience it is very impossible to implement successfully online learning particularly in higher learning institution. The purpose of this study was to explore the online learning conveniences from studentsâ perception. A cohort of 61 science physics students from School of Science and Technology (SST) and 41 pre-service science teachers from the School of Education and Social Development (SESD) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia comprised the sample. The course involved is Modern Physics which is compulsory. Both groups were supported via an online learning environment, which acted as the main medium for learning. Participantsâ perception on conveniences was recorded through an open-ended questionnaire and focus group interview. The output of these qualitative data can be categorised into several themes, as in general they felt that learning through online is really convenient and ease; and they were also using online to search for information. Somehow there were also negative feedback where they felt not satisfied with the Internet coverage. In additional the SESDâs student stressed that their communication skills were enhanced.
Implementing e-learning in far western region of Nepal by Gajendra Sharma* and Mahesh Prashad Bhatta in Crimson Publishers: Electronics and Telecommunications
The rapid developments of internet and communication technologies have materially altered many characteristics and concepts of the learning environment. E-learning has started to make way into developing countries and is believed to have huge potential for governments struggling to meet a growing demand for education while facing shortage of expert teachers, shortage of update textbooks and limited teaching materials. The objective of this study is to determine the major challenges of implementing e-learning systems in far western region of Nepal. The results of this study will serve as a basic for improving higher education in developing countries. There are many commercial or free e-learning systems available on the market. Most of these e-learning systems provide lot of functionality and modules. Some courses are completely based on e-learning resources instead of traditional learning model. E-learning system also offers graphs and charts of studentâs results. This system is based on linear workflow. That means students can see new learning resources and tests only after previous was done. Students can also create their own learning plan by defining dates. System is able to export this plan into general calendar format or remind students via e-mail.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Â
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
Â
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
