Shakespeare Cross Dressing
3)Throughout the semester, one thing that was noticeable throughout Shakespeare s plays was the
cross dressing of women. The cross dressing of women occurred in Cymbeline, The Two
Gentleman of Verona, and The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare appeared to be ahead of his time
in knowing what we know now. Through showcasing women, successfully disguising as men
Shakespeare proves that genderis nothing more than a performance. During this era, women were
not allowed to play women parts in the Shakespeare plays. However, this did not stop Shakespeare
from having women parts in his plays. Having men perform feminine parts in the plays did not
stop people from attending the Shakespeare plays as well. What resonates in all three of these plays
is that the women successfully fool the men with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare proves through these actions that gender is nothing, but a performance. These men
have been men all their lives, but these women are better at being men than they are. Also,
Shakespeare is hinting back on the narrative that people are not always, what they appear to be.
In Shakespeare, the male characters take the women dressed up as men at face value. They never
question the identity of the women pretending to be men. Here Shakespeare is debunking the
subservient role of the women in society. All three of these women appear to be strong women
who go after the things that they want. He was well ahead of his time showcasing that gender is
just a performance. Also, the male characters in Shakespeare are always heavenly flawed, but the
female characters appear to have little to no flaws. Although he has the women, characters
transform back into their subservient roles he delivers his message. The viewing audience at the
time probably was not ready for women of that stature yet. However, he proves a point that gender
is just a performance and no sex is better than the other

Video Art Evaluation
I will give myself 79 for the video I shot. It is fairly engaged the project theme. It is a non
narrative video and exactly one minute. I think the most prominent point of my video is the
conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the
coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of
video art and tell the differences between video art and filmand cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a
video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the
beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for
many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and
did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category
of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and
showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera
(Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better
cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. So when I was shooting the video and
found the images is somewhat blurred. But I thoughtthat was the best that... Show more content on

But I decided to erase the audio at last not only because the camera captured the ambience(my
sounds). In fact, I tried to keep the environment as silent as possible. But when I was checking
the videos, I heard very big noises which was produced by the camera itself( the camera is old
and not in very good condition). I could not eliminate those noises no matter what I tried.
Compared to contain those noises in my video, I believe it is better to eliminate the audio, which
also create a atmosphere of calm and make the audience to appreciate the movement more

Why I Want to Attend a Service Academy
ct to gain from the Air Force Academy experience and how will it help you in your Air Force
career? (250 to 300 words, 3000 characters max)
My initial interest in the Air Force Academy was sparked when I accompanied my parents to a
Military Child Education Coalition conference in the summer of 2004. My father and I, not
involved in the conference, decided to spend the week exploring the Colorado Springs area, and
after touring for several days, decided to go to what my father called Zoomie U . We took the
typical summer tourist tour, but I was enthralled. The chapel, the mountains, and the campus
excited me, despite my youth. I spent the rest of the vacation asking questions on how to go to the

As a high school student, I am involved in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
(AFJROTC). Due to high involvement and leadership potential, I was promoted to the Inspector
General position, which pertains to Corps discipline and standards. When I initially accepted the
position, I did not fully appreciate the effort or candor required, and it was not until several months
into the assignment that I began to. In the AFJROTC chain of command, the Corps Commander has
five people directly underneath him, namely; the Deputy Corps Commander, the Inspector General,
two squadron commanders, and the Command Chief Master Sergeant. Typically, the Inspector
General s concern is outside of these four, as they should be well behaved due to their high status.
However, one morning, one of the top five publically berated another top five member due to her
sexual orientation in the school hallway before class. The current military policy is don t ask, don t
tell ; however, the concern was not her sexual orientation, but the fact that a high ranking cadet
had shown a lack of awareness and political correctness in the situation. As the offense was public,
if I did nothing, it would be an obvious dereliction of duty. If I did do something, it could be seen
as selfishness

Their explanation was, Errai is Arabic for shepherd, so we chose an Arabic word for sheep, which
is herded by the shepherd.
For the star Pollux (beta Germinorum), the exoplanet Pollux b is up for naming. One group
proposed the name Leda, and said that in Greek mythology, the father of the twins Pollux and
Castor is said to be either Zeus or Tyndareus (the king of Sparta) depending on which version you
go by. But all versions have Leda as their mother, so it is fitting that the celestial version of Pollux
is accompanied by his beautiful mother Leda in an everlasting celestial orbit.
The system for 42 Draconis is home to the exoplanet 42 Draconis b, and both the star and its planet
are up for naming. One group proposed that the star be named Vepolar, explaining that is is
because it is the northern pole star of Venus. They proposed the name Brug for the planet, saying
Brug is the word Dragon in Tibetan language. We propose this name because this stellar system is

Tomography Critique
Article Critique #1
Authors of the article Computed Tomography An Increasing Source of Radiation Exposure
commend the diagnostic advantages of computed tomography (CT), but declare there is
evidence and concern of the discipline s overuse in various patient populations, especially
pediatrics. Of the more than 62 million CT scans per year, almost 16% of these exams are
performed on children (David Hall, 2007, para. 1). The article s title and abstract clearly pinpoint
the dilemma. With the rising number of CT procedures, the authors cause for concern is three fold:
radiation doses received by the patient, cancer risks tied to ionizing radiation exposure and potential
for latent effects in the general public (David Hall, 2007). Unfortunately, the article s abstract is
lacking as it did not summarize what methodology is utilized or state a conclusion of the author s
findings.
The authors begin defending their stance by providing several reasons for the recent surge of CT
procedures: rapid technological advances, convenience to the patient and cost effectiveness (David
Hall, 2007). The calculated dose a patient receives from a CT procedure is only an estimated
exposure dose. To date, a patient s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article s title, key points and the authors proposals related to this significant issue are
professional interests of mine. Performing daily CT procedures on the pediatric population is one
of my main job responsibilities. The authors provided numerous clinical examples, critical and
ample sample evidence from radiation exposed populations and alternatives procedures to support
and acknowledge that CT is often overused. The authors provide the percentages of CT procedures
performed and study conclusions, but they did not reveal their methodology and instrumentation
approaches. The content in the article is significant, but the authors data collection lacks evidence

Similarities Between The Balloon And The Red Balloon

Love and Friendship
Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture,
etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time
into a wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it
. The short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by
Albert Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon.
The Balloon film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple
black balloon with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night
while people were sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship
between a boy called Pascal, and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds
through fiction to combine reality, the wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short
films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I believe that their differences are more striking
than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The Red Balloon have a similar high point.
In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon appears on a street where a bad
boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The presence of the balloon in
that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his way to sky to admire
the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film avoid an act of
violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to steal and
destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase. It
sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red
balloon dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon
films are almost opposites. First of all, their score is very different. The Balloon film sound
source is the song with lyrics titled Time to Leave of the band Suicide DJs. The lyrics can provide
depth, powerful to the song, and make the audience to

Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis
In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine Mystique, which she
criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to become a mother, wife, and housewife.
She said, When she [woman] stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she
finally began to enjoy being a woman(Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an
immense role in telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned genderroles
and biological sexes. For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family because
they show more feelings and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes them to form their
identities, seek satisfaction and freedom in lives. Once these gender labels and... Show more content

According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A Literary and
Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage leaves no space for
women (79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is essentially significant as personal
freedom. Consider if a woman does not feel she has enough space in a relationship, that means
her granted freedom is restricted too because personal space is created when the other half is
willing to give you liberty to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given
that space and freedom in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful will
bending hers (Chopin 525). Although Louise does not mention whether her husband has abused
her, the description that she gives about him indicates she lives a life of imprisonment. In other
words, she sees the house she is living as a prison in which liberty, happiness, and personal space
are unreachable. By making this comparison and providing this source of information about Mr.
Mallard, Chopin has effectively allowed readers to understand Louise s attitudes and opinions
toward her husband. Moreover, she has successfully appealed to the female readers pathos because
they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s situation as Chopin s choice of using the
word bending shows Louise undergoes

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most common cause of mortality worldwide, especially in
developed countries. But they are also largely preventable, and many studies have tried to clarify
the related risk factors, and what could be done to avoid them.
The Framingham Heart Study was the first longitudinal cohort study to try to elucidate the etiology

celebrating it s 68 years in 2016. It is in it s third generation now (grandchildren of the original

Customer satisfaction is a key to any business, because happy customers can lead to more sales and

The Characteristics Of Alfred Hitler s Birth Order
Alfred Adler was most famous for his perspective on how the development as a person based on
your birth is progressed. He believes that each family is different and that his birth order scale just
happens to be a possible tool to help people understand the general roles of children. Even though
Adler states the types of position you were born are important, he also describes his birth orderscale
as it is not birth order itself that accounts for differences among siblings, but the psychological
situation resulting from it (Allen, 2006). For example, you may be an only child, but take on many
or possible more characteristics of a middle child based on Adler s description. Although Adler
believes in the characteristics he stated for each birth orders, he states that if there are more than
three years between the children, that the birth order may appear different or inaccurate.
In addition, I believe that Adler was pretty accurate when stating the characteristics on the
position of birth. I am an only child in which Adler states are very comfortable with adults, may
have a special unique gift for their birth order, and tend to have a harder time sharing with others.
He also states that only child tend to want to be the center of attention (Allen, 2006). I believe I fit
this birth order pretty accurately. I tend to much rather hang out with adults than to hang out with
children. I also have very few friends that are my age or younger than me, in which most are older. I

Leopold In Cold Blood Analysis
Starting from the European colonization period, Congo has constantly been plagued with foreign
interference, namely by external countries and multinational corporations looking to gain wealth.
They have demolished the magnificent African cake systematically throughout the years, starting
primarily from Leopold s Congo Free state, which he ruled single handedly, to the modern day
Democratic Republic of Congo. Leopold began his regime by holding conferences regarding
Africa, and formed organizations that he claimed would aid Africa. Not only did Leopold abuse
the abundance of natural resources out of greed, he also destroyed the economy, political system,
and the people for generations to come. Leopold s framework of a Congo whose resources... Show

Leopold had a railway built, using additional forced labor on the part of the Congolese. Along
with the repressive Force Publique, Leopold also sent a group Christian missionaries to ensure
that the Congolese were meeting Europe s expectations of him introducing the Congolese to
Christianity. Meanwhile, all of Europe and America was fully convinced that he was truly

George Washington Williams were his true, or lack of, actions revealed though the letter did not

him as a delusional man trying to convince others that he did improve the Congo s way of life.

The Superhero Genre Is Classified By A Fight Of Good Vs. Evil
The superhero genre is classified by a fight of good vs. evil. The heroes and the villains are
complex characters driven by motives that are not always black and white. Besides dealing with
fictional characters, superhero comic books often incorporate real life difficulties, such as racism,
sexism, and drug use. The storylines are driven by the superheroes fight against the forces of evil,
but the underlying story often deals with conflicting moral dilemmas and self doubt. The
superheroes have secret identities and strut around in colorful costumes, but behind these personas,
lay a story of triumph and defeat. The true appeal of comics is not the colorful character who
follows it but the dark, gritty storylines that cause the reader to view the world and humanity in a
new light. In Batman#134 , written in 1960 by Bill Finger, a few of these requirements are
addressed. This comic follows Batman and Robin s adventure in an undisclosed South American
republic. The major conflict lies with a man named Diaz, who releases a monster known as The
Rainbow Creature. This creature terrorizes the village until Batman uses his world class detective
skills to defeat the beast. The storyline is quickly wrapped up in a span of nine pages, and the
childish tone of the comic causes the intrigue of the story to be lost on the reader. On the other
hand, Batman: Ego, written by Darwyn Cooke in 2000, deals with the harsh atmosphere of
Gotham. The comic tells the story of a wounded Batman and

The Art Of Speedreading People, Paul D. Tieger And Barbara...
Personality Typology
Have you ever met someone who thinks, acts or talks just like you? Alternatively, have you ever
just clicked with someone? What if these interactions were not a coincidence at all but instead
very predictable. In their book The Art of SpeedReading People, Paul D. Tieger and Barbara
Barron Tieger expound on this subject.
People come in all shapes and sizes, and, certainly, every person is unique. However, you ll
probably agree that some people are much more alike than others. Moreover, behavior that may
seem random is, in fact, quite understandable and often even predictable, once you understand that
person s inborn, natural personality, or genetic blueprint . . . Which describes basic psychological
characteristics. Moreover, one s personality is by far the best and most reliable predictor of
behavior. (9)
Personality psychology is the way to understand better the innate workings of people and how their
personalities determine their behavior. Within the broad subject of this study, there are many sub
categorical studies one of which is called Personality Typology.
According to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English, Personality is the pattern of
collective character, behavioral, temperamental, emotional, and mental traits of a person. (1351)
Typology is the study or systematic classification of types that have characteristics or traits in

The Effects Of Parental Species On Aberrant Playback
While parental species responded more to conspecific songs than heterospecific songs, we found
no difference in the responses of parental species to aberrant playback. A previously mentioned
study of two closely related species of African doves found that birds showed more response to
conspecific vocalizations than to heterospecific playback, and found that response to hybrid
vocalizations was intermediate (den Hartog et al. 2007). While our results aren t statistically
significant for intermediate response, the trends do suggest that parental species respond with more
vocalizations, and approach the speaker closer to conspecific vocalizations. With a marginally
significant result for BCCH responding with more vocalizations to BCCH song... Show more

He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the
temporal pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may
contain characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would
expect some type of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained
BCCH like elements (e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes
per song, etc.). It is possible that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations
also varies based on the structure of the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song
types recorded in Illinois contain introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song.
Perhaps most notably, the Greenville dialect starts with a two note phrase that is similar in
frequency to a typical BCCH song (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is
shorter and more similar to a typical CACH song. With aberrant vocalizations containing elements
of both parental song types, a parental bird could be responding to a particular phrase or other
element within the song which elicits a response similar to a true conspecific song. Further
investigation would be necessary to compare responses from partial songs or from playbacks that
have been manipulated to express different song characteristics.
As expected, our results indicate that

Death With Dignity Ethical Issues
Death with Dignity in California and Oregon
When working in the healthcare field, many ethical issues come arise that causes us to think
about our choices and actions. One major ethical debate is the Right to Die or also known as
Death with Dignity . Death with Dignity is an assisted death by a physician for the terminally ill
who do not want to face anymore pain. There have been constant ongoing controversial debates if
this is ethically moral with many who are supporters and many who oppose this. Many feel that
this situation is similar to having an abortion, but there have been many states who have been
fighting to pass laws supporting the Right to Die . With all the disputable debates, it is important

They fear for the abuse of medication by the physician and sometimes the pressure of others for the
patients to intake the medication. According to Anderson (2015), he believes there are four
problems that comes along with physician assisted suicide which are endangering the weak and
vulnerable, corrupt of practice of medicine, compromise of the family commitments, and betray of
human dignity and equality before the law (Anderson, 2015). He makes some very good points
where anyone would be convinced that physician assisted death could be questioned on their ethics
and policies. They fear that it brings more inadequate physician care to actually try to save the
patient or to reduce the pain. This leads to poor physician and patient quality in their relationship
and reduces the commitment they have with each other. In the third issue, those who oppose
fear that with physician assisted death, people will try to abuse this by trying to tempt elderly
and disabled people to take this medication for their own benefit and feel that the burden will be
uplifted if they do choose to go through with it. The last problem they argue is that it violates
human dignity and denies equality before the law. This is where ethics comes into play between
the physician and the patient. The physicians have a tough decision to see if the patient is eligible
for the medication or not and it is up to the patient to determine if they do want to end their life
with all their family and friends to feel the burden. For physician assisted death advocates, they
argue that it up to patient s autonomy and what they choose to do to their body. Even with these
issues, more states are leaning towards passing the law of physician assisted death and more
advocates are joining the Death with Dignity

Conformity In Walt Disney s Mickey Mouse Club
The Mickey Mouse Club is a television show that was created by Walt Disney and was produced
by Walt Disney Productions. The show was first aired by ABC from 1955 to 1960 and
intermittently aired from 1950 to 1996. The Mickey Mouse Club was a variety show for children
that included a carton, music and talent, a news segment and even a comedy segment. The cast
members were called Mouseketeers. Of the Mouseketeers, the teenage boys and girls faced the
most challenges. While teens in the 1950 s had a great understanding of conformity in terms of
appearances and popularity, it was the Mickey MouseClub that reinforced conformity and an
obsession with appearances. In the 1950s, on shows like the Mickey Mouse Club, girls were
defined by their bodies and had to strive to meet strict standards of beauty. Guests on the show,

Jerry Bowles explains: part of the show s impact had to do with its really not being a children s
show at all, but, rather, a show that featured children playing the role of little adults. All of the
values the show taught...are things that adults think kids should be taught. By making gender
role messages ever present and stressing conformity and acceptance through appearance and
behavior, The Mickey Mouse Club strengthened white, middle class values as well as a sense of
security in America s youth. The Mickey Mouse Club attempted to suggest that security and
happiness were attainable, providing a comforting picture in world where the reality was much
more in flux. Being attractive and well mannered was a small but important part of growing up in
a Cold War society dominated by visions of an ideal white, middle class life. In encouraging these
values in young children, viewers of the 1950s absorbed these lessons from Walt Disneyand The

Gathering Around the Table
My early memories bring back images of my family and I gathered around the white kitchen table.
At that table, my mom revealed the list of potential names for my new baby brother. Manner
lessons given at meal times consisted of shouts of elbows off the table and stop kicking your sister
, which echoed over the commotion of meals. My family and I spent dinnertime bonding, finding
out about each other s days, and spending a few moments together as a family before we were
tucked into bed. Meals show a common tie that bonds us all; everyone eats and can relate to the
experience. Many novels use this bond to portray a theme in the plot. Gathering around a table and
sharing a mealcan lead to friendship and a feeling of togetherness.
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, describes a meal that brings a family together. After
August s sister, May, passes away, the family breaks and morns. A simple dinner brings the
group back together and their life starts to return to what it was before May s death. This regular
dinner, followed by August and Lily s favorite dessert, Coke and peanuts, show that the family
can move on. They each got a bag of peanuts and a bottle of ice cold Coke. Lily [shook] the
peanuts into [her] bottle, where they caused a little reaction of foam, then floated on the brown
liquid. [She] drank and munched with the glory of salt and sweet in [her] mouth at the same time.

The Pearl Symbolism Essay
The short novel The Pearl by John Steinbeck is based on an old folktale and is about a man
named Kino, his wife named Juana, their baby named Coyotito, and the struggle they face when
Kino finds the pearl of the world. Steinbeck shows that materialism and greed, left unchecked,
can lead to immoral behavior through the characters of the town doctor, Kino, and the three
attackers. Steinbeck uses the doctor as a symbol to represent the materialism and greed, left
unchecked, can lead to immoral behavior. This seen when the town doctor refuses to treat the
dying Coyotito. The narrator states, Have I nothing better to do then cure insect bites for little
Indians ? I am a doctor not a veterinarian. ( ?). This shows that the doctor is too greedy to treat the
baby because he knows they have no money to pay for it. He is a doctor and should be willing to

He shows this when Juana is trying to throw the pearl back but Kino beats her. The narrator states,
Her arm was up to throw when he leaped at her and caught her arm and wrenched the pearl from

kicked her in her side. ( ?) Here Kino beats up his wife in order to save a pearl that was tearing
his family apart. He no longer cares about who he hurts or what he hurts just that he gets what he
is after. Another example of Kino s greed is when is going to sell the pearl. Kino declines an offer
from a pearl buyer, not because he knows the pearl is more valuable but because he wants more
money, more things, more opportunities, and is he not willing to give that up under any
circumstances. All of these show that being greedy can put us in unwanted situations that could

A Double Standard for Men and Women in Tom Jones
For this project, I will be summarizing three different articles that pertain to the argument that there
is an apparent double standard for what is acceptable behavior in men versus women in Tom Jones.
In addition to summarizing these articles, I will also be adding my own views and comments
throughout this paper. The first article is by April London, entitled Controlling the Text: Women in
Tom Jones. London begins by stating that Fielding uses a metaphor between property and women
throughout the text in Tom Jones. She states that Fielding plays with the multiple meanings of
property, undercutting the equation of female and helplessness, to offer versions of power
unconstrained by gender which are. . . contradicted by . . .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This double standard is actually stated and justified by another woman, which accurately
highlights the way of thinking in the 18th century that Fielding evidently recognized. Later,
when Molly is found to be pregnant, Allworthy lectures Tom much in the same way he lectured
Jenny Jones years ago, but according to Carlton, Fielding minimizes its impact in Tom s case
(399). These two instances are a few of many examples of this double standard for men and
women. Carlton sums up the view of women when he states, Fielding relies on . . . the
traditional view of women, implicit in the fact that it is always the woman who is the aggressor
in Tom s affairs . . . women are perceived as either purer than they are or more sexually ravenous
than they are (the familiar virgin/whore polarization), but never simply as they are. At one
extreme, they are seen as semidivine beings . . . at the other, women are portrayed as insatiable
sinks of lust (399 400). Sophia and Lady Bellaston seem to represent these two extremes precisely.
Sophia is often referred to with heavenly and divine inferences, while Lady Bellaston is the
instigator of an on going affair with Tom. Tom is viewed as an innocent bystander who falls victim
to an evil temptress of sorts. Carlton tells us that another critic, Battestin,

Post World War II Japan s economy was in shambles; there industrial production was down to

had to make strict policies for trade. By 1950 Japan had already sprung back to its prewar trade

This presented a major dilemma for Rank Xerox when they wanted to enter Japan market. But
riding on the wave of success, Rank Xerox was expanding tremendously as a company. Rank

Using Titanium Dioxide as Photocatalyst to Reduce Pollution
Recent research shows that titanium dioxide can be used as a photocatalystic property to reduce
pollutants. This was first discovered by Fujishima and Honda in 1972, where the photocatalystic
properties of titanium dioxide were found to be applicable. It was shown that by converting
ultraviolet light energy, this compound acts as a catalyst to produce hydroxyl in the presence of
moisture in the air. Hydroxl then can oxidize and convert these harmful pollutants to HNO3. The
reason that this is useful is because nitrogenoxideis a common pollutant which has many adverse
effects to society. Nitrogen oxides may form into nitric acid which contributes to acid rain, and it
also chemically reacts to sunlight and changes into ozone which additionally has many adverse
health effects for living organisms and non living things alike. The health related issues are a major
reason to reduce emissions of NOxbecause although health is important, money is an issue as well.
In California an independent study conducted from 2005 to 2007 found that nearly 30,000 visits in
the state were due to California failing to meet both federal and state standards for PM and ozone.

attacks. Even though the study estimates were on the conservative side, it was estimated that the
cost of un attainment to the state between that 3 year periods was 193 million dollars. And because

The level of the population s level of physical activity is becoming a major public health concern
in the United States (Wahlgren, 2011). As a result of urban sprawl, Americans rely heavily on
personal vehicles to travel to work or other destinations. This is leading to a sedentary life style for

By supporting existing communities, community values, redeveloping underutilized sites, and
developing livability measures, smart growth helps to establish an environment that people can
enjoy walking and not feel unsafe within the community (Ewing, 2010). The principles of smart
growth is to establish a sustainable community that residents have access to businesses, work
and a safe place to raise their families. Through the implementation of mixed land use, residential
density, street connectivity, and physical infrastructure the community will establish itself as an
area that is closely associated with other areas viewed as being highly walk able for both
residents and visitors (Wahlgren, 2011). In order to achieve a smart growth design, safety
requirements must be addressed for pedestrians and bicyclists. However, current designs intended
to address safety needs for motorists and pedestrians are at odds with each other. Community
street design is evident of an out dated design guidance on roadways. Currently the selection of a
roadway s design speed determines the design of the roadway s geometric features. Roadways
with higher speeds tend to maintain a larger lane width, wider clear zones, and longer sight lines
for drivers (Dumbaugh, 2011). Current traffic safety theory, passive safety, emerged during the
1950s and 1960s when safety advocates sought to

How Zipcar Has Become More Than A Car Rental Service
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to examine how Zipcar has become more than a car rental service. We
will explore the nature of access as it contrasts to ownership and sharing, specifically the consumer
object, consumer consumer, and consumer marketer relationships. Three aspects are identified to
distinguish among the range of access based consumption: temporality, consumer involvement and
market mediation. The nature of exchange, consumption and brand community are discussed. http:/
/jcr.oxfordjournals.org/content/39/4/881 Many studies have shown car sharing reduces the cost of
transportation for a large segment of urban dwellers. It also reduces the number of cars on the road
because the members do not own cars. Zipcar is a company founded in 2000 by Antje Danielson
and Robin Chase. By 2010 it had over 8000 vehicles offered to over 560,000 members in urban
areas throughout the 28 North American states and provinces. By 2012 Zipcar membership had

2011, the annual revenue had grown 30%. Zipcar started its car sharing business in Boston. Its
mission was to make it easy for residence living in the city to get in a car and use for however long
they needed. Their goal was to provide reliable and convenient access to on demand transportation,

Who Is Beatty In Fahrenheit 451

People in a censored society where books are illegal to read or possess act in the same manner

that censorship can have on a society. Beatty and Montag are conflicting characters that share few

Beatty is knowledgeable about books, yet he is the fire chief who burns books and houses instead
of saving them.

Attraction Research Paper
When you are attracted to someone you believe that it is because you think they caught your eye
or how charming they are, but there is a science that gives the deeper reasoning to why you are
attracted to someone. Smell, fertility, masculinity, and the golden ratio are all factors in attraction.
Science has affected who our ancestors chose for mates and now it is affecting us.
Smell? Yes, smell is actually a big factor in mating. Pheromones are a type of scent bearing

the compounds androstenone, androstadienone and androstenol and may be involved in attraction.

Yes, math. It is proven that humans are more attracted to other humans if their bodies and faces are
more proportional. What determines if humans are in proportion is the Golden Ratio. The Golden
Ratio originates from Greece and is based on Fibonacci Numbers created by Leonardo Fibonacci
in 1200 AD, which is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two numbers
before it , for example 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 and so on. If you divide every number by the one in
front of it you get decimals that are very close to each other for example: 1.60, 1.61, 1.62. This is
where we get Phi from (1.6180339887) . The Golden Ratio is 1:1.6180339887. It wasn t until the
1900 s that American mathematician Mark Barr used the Greek letter phi (О¦) for this proportion.
Artists also use the golden ratio to make paintings. Leonardo Da Vinci created many drawings that
revolved around the Golden Ratio. His drawings consist of a circle, a square, and the length from
navel to head and navel to the foot. The golden ratio doesn t only exist in humans, but also

The Inuit People Essay
The Inuit People
The word Eskimo is not a proper Eskimo word. It means eaters of raw meat and was used by the
Algonquin Indians of eastern Canada for their neighbours who wore animal skin clothing and were
ruthless hunters. The name became commonly employed by European explorers and now is
generally used, even by them. Their own term for themselves is Inuit which means the real people.
The Inuit developed a way of life well suited to their Arctic environment, based on fishing; hunting

settlements occurred even in Greenland and western Alaska ; during the summer, people would
leave the permanent communities and live in animal skin tents at favourite spots for seal hunting,
for fishing, or for collecting birds, eggs, and plants. The igloo (from an Eskimo word meaning
home ) was constructed of packed snow and used only during the winter, villages of igloos were
built on the firm ocean ice of the central Arctic to help seal hunting through holes in the ice. They
were also used as temporary structures in Greenland and in parts of Canada and Alaska.
Food
The traditional method of hunting seals during winter through the frozen ocean ice was most
typical of the Eskimo of north central Canada. Since seals are mammals and must breathe, they
scratch a number of holes through the ice as it begins to freeze and periodically return to them for
air.

Listen To Music Analysis
How to Listen to Music, Not Just Hear it
To learn to listen to music, not just hear itYou need the right room, the right equipment, the perfect
volume, the perfect spot, and (of course), the embracing of the music. After you have all the proper
tools, you can sit and enjoy the music.
The first consideration is to listen to music in a comfortable chair. I would highly recommend a
good quality Lazy Boy recliner. Now, you need to find the best room to put that chair in, so you
can listen to you music. The room can be any normal room with four walls but, the room can t be
wide open. For example, it can t be an unfinished basement with concrete walls and a cement floor.
The sound will not be able to bounce off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the speaker s cabinets are placed twelve feet apart from each other, divide twelve feet in half,
which gives us six feet. That s the middle, so mark that location. From that mark, measure twelve
feet back, and mark that spot on the floor. You have found the perfect spot for you to achieve the
best sound from your music.
Next, you need a receiver. The receiver is a power source and a switchboard for your additional
stereo components. Any receiver will do, as long as it has one hundred watts per speaker out put.
Then, you need a compact disc player, a single or a five disc is fine. Some speaker wire is a must.
Speakers on the other hand, are a tough choice because there are so many of them. You want to
spend at least four hundred dollars when buying speakers.
Anything lower than four hundred dollars is usually low quality, which can increase the risk of
destroying your speakers.
When you decide on three sets of speakers (one set equals two speakers) at you local speaker shop,
have a salesman play some of your cd s that you brought with you. Make sure you listen to the
same song per set of speakers.
Also, bring different types; classical, jazz, blues, rap, and 80 s; whatever.
Forget what the salesman says. Just remember, your ears won t deceive you.
Figure out what sounds the best to you, then slap your credit card down and lets go home and listen
to some music.
After you ve placed your speakers, hooked up

The Risks Of The Shipping Industry
The Risk sources in the Shipping Industry along with current opportunities and future threats to the
company s core business
Technically, shipping risk can be defined as the measurable liability for any financial loss arising
from unforeseen imbalances between the supply and demand for sea transport (Stopford 2009).
More specifically, shipowners may face eight different risktypes during their operation in the tanker
market.
These risks can be categorized into the following types (Kavussanos and Visvikis 2006):
Business risk: Is the risk generated by volatility in freight rates which cause uncertainty to the
shipowner s income, in other words fluctuations in EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes). It
depends on the demand and the price of the product sold. It is influenced by (a) freight rates, (b)
voyage costs (fuel costs, port charges, canal dues and broking commissions), (c) operating costs
(manning, repairs, maintenance, stores, insurance and administration) and finally (d) exchange
rates as income is counted in US dollars while costs are counted in current exchange.
Figure 6. Average earnings of all tankers Brent Arab Crude Oil Prices.
In Figure 6 we distinguish the bunker price fluctuations. Bunker is a derivative of Crude Oil and
as it fluctuates it increases the volatility and the amount of risk exposure of the shipping company.
More specifically as the chart depicts, when Brent Crude Oil goes up the Average Tanker Earnings

Staphylococcus Research Paper
Staphylococcus epidermidis is a gram positive bacterium meaning that it is a bacterium that takes
up the crystal violet strain when used in the gram strain test. When this tests is being undertaken
the bacterium turns a purple colour when looking through a microscope. This is due to the thick
peptidoglycan layer in the cell wall, as it retains the strain after being washed in the decolorization
stage. However due the thicker peptidoglycan layer staphylococcusis more receptive of antiseptics
due to the absence of an outer membrane.
Escherichia coli (E.coli) is a gram negative bacterium meaning that it is bacteria that does not retain
crystal violet after the decolorization step. However alcohol used in this stage degrades the outer
membrane making the cell wall more porous and incapable of retaining the crystal violet strain.
Compared to staphylococcus epidermidis their peptidoglycan layer is much thinner and is
surrounded between an inner cell membrane and a bacterial outer membrane. It is a facultative
anaerobe, which is an organism that makes ATP by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present.
However it is capable of switching to anaerobic respiration is oxygen is not present. E.coli is a rod
shape bacterium of the genus Escherichia. This type of bacteria is commonly found in the lower
intestine of endotherms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Girl s Obsession On Band Boys
As I began exploring into the one direction fandom, I was a little doubtful on what I was getting
myself into. I am the bystander, that sits and watches as the obsession of One Direction is
blowing up all over my social media feed. The fans have a notorious reputation for being viewed
on society to spend countless hours drooling over someone they ll never have. My goal was to
seek out the complexities of the peculiar phenomenon and how this obsession affects their lives.
Adventures in my research led me to a new understanding on how a online obsession over a teen
boy band can affect the lives of many young girls. Being a part of the fandomonline made me
evident that my insight over the surrounding topic of girl s obsession on band boys is incorrect.
Through the online universe, people tend to have an emotional appeal that can be seen which
allows us to further investigate in fictional aspects. As I explored into it further, it became evident
that fans behave in a way to harness the love they all share for their idols. In order to understand, I
put myself in different shoes to try and adapt to a lifestyle I was unfamiliar with. Fortunately for
myself, my best friend Jessica was apart of this community and this allowed the adaptation to come
much smoother. In the past, she would occasionally bring up One Direction, but due to my
disinterest of them, she didn t bring them up as much. When she found out that my research was
going into this topic, she became extremely

What Is Proactive Interference
Introduction
By the age of seven, reading is an activity many children are well accustomed to. With the amount
of time most individuals have been reading, this task is relatively easy. Yet, there are still instances
in which we are reading a novel, a magazine, or even a simple text message, and we simply cannot
manage to remember what we read. This is event is due to interference. Interference theory states
that there are two forms of interference that can hinder our ability to properly encode information
into our memory (Bergstrom 1892), proactive interference and retroactive interference. When
reading, however, visual interference can play a large part in disrupting out learning process.

A controlled process is a task which is new or unique to the person. It is serial, takes heavy
demands on attention, requires conscious efforts to direct attention towards the task and is slow.
Whereas an automatic process is a task which has already been learned. It can be parallel, makes
no demands on attention, does not need conscious direction of attention towards the task and is
fast. This implies that when we are presented with a word, the action of stating its color is a
relatively new task compared to the already learnt behavior to read just words. Therefore, reading is
seen as the automatic process which interferes with the slower controlled process of stating the
color. With the alteration of the original Stroop Effect experiment, the automaticity model is
discredited due to the fact that instead of stating the word the participant points at the observed
color instead. This nonverbal response, pointing at the color, is not believed to be an automatic
process, thus the automaticity model is questioned when researchers note an interference in the
speed of processing in incongruently colored

Environmental Burden Of Coal Fired Power Plants Essay
Introduction :
New techniques reduce the environmental burden of coal fired power plants and allow higher
efficiencies with a better conversion of heat to electrical energy
In the discussion concerning available energy carriers this is interesting to notice, since coal
reserves can provide enough energy for another estimated 150 200 years. This is a much longer
period than is calculated for the proven oil and gas reserves and is a factor that cannot be ignored in
global energy discussions. The new techniques make power plants more complex and therefore
safety should get extra attention in design and construction. Conventional power plants are
designed conform standard guidelines developed in close harmony between companies, notified
bodies and authorities. Safety has always been an implicit component of design and standard
routines. With the introduction of extra complexity this is no longer sufficient and other methods
that are already common practice in the petrochemical industry should be and are already
introduced to secure overall safety.
Research Problem :
The main direction of activities of this complex consists in creation of basic and welding materials
and processes which provide manufacturing of the main equipment of nuclear power plants.
The work in this field commenced practically at the same time when the first nuclear power objects
were being put into operation in the country and developed along with this branch of engineering.

The Cultural Aspects Of The Service A Muralist
What is the purpose of art? There is art for art s sake, there is the percent for art ordinance, and
there is art with the intention of popularity or even to push societal norms. The list can go on and

The service a muralist gives is not only added aesthetic value to a neighborhood with his or her art

Reconstruction Of Automobile Destruction Undertaken By...
Overview
The study, Reconstruction of Automobile Destruction undertaken by Loftus Palmer in 1974
consisted of two experiments, these experiments were completed in order to test their hypothesis
that the way in which a question about an eyewitness testimony was asked can change the
recollection of events perceived by the witness . The study served to aid the argument that memory
can be altered and distorted when they subject is presented with new information that is given prior
to the event. In order to test their hypothesis, Loftus Palmer conducted two laboratory experiments;
both experiments took the design of an independent measures. The first experiment consisted of a
group of 45 students who were shown footage of car accidents, following each film questionnaires
were answered. The critical question from this questionnaire was in regards to the speed at which
the car was travelling. In this question the verb used to describe the actions changed, meaning this
was the independent variable. The results of this question varied depending on the verb used. With
the highest mean speed being for the word smashed and the lowest for the verb contacted . The
dependent variable in this experiment was the estimated mean speed.
The second experiment differed in that it had a sample size of 150 students, they were divided
into groups of 50. Again the groups were shown footage of car accidents however in this
experiment one group of 50 were asked how fast the cars were

The Scientific Management And Human Relations
Organisational behaviour is influenced by two main theories, scientific management and human
relations. The scientific management approach developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor is one of
the earliest ideological approaches which attempted to explain a management process scientifically.
The main goal was to find the techniques to improve production efficiency of workers
scientifically. On the contrary, human relations studied by Elton Mayo studied the social
interactions within a working environment. Through his studies, he found that social relationships
motivates workers at their workplaces (Daft Samson 2014; Miller Form, 1964).Based on the two
approaches, this paper looks into the assumptions made on workers; the path managers should take
to maximise the efficiency of workers and lastly, my choice between these two approaches as a
worker.
Scientific management assumes the economic man concept where a worker acts rationally to
protect their own interests. In this case, the workers interest lies in money. Therefore, the
worker does what is asked of them for a better wage. For example, Schimdt did as instructed for a
pay of $1.85 per hour which is higher than the average of $1.15 per hour. By following the
instructions given, he managed to load 47 tons a day instead of the average of 12 and a half tons
(Miller Form 1964). This signifies that by following instructions, the efficiency of a worker will
increase as long as they are rewarded highly.
Using the economic

At the time of writing the international trade or to be more precise, international carriage of goods
by sea is governed mainly either by already existing international regimes known as Hague, Hague

International community admits that frequently shipper is the one less powerful contracting party
and absolute freedom of contract would result in unfair and imbalance outcome. It would not be a
big mistake to amount shipper and carrier relationships to the ones of consumer and seller
respectively. Therefore, international instrument is an essential condition to ensure a fair balance
between bargaining parties as well as to encourage the development of international commerce.
Moreover, the cost of diversity in legal regimes end up with years of expensive and complex
international litigation between contracting parties who are established under the different legal
regimes. Consequently prolonged litigation creates a number of obstacles for international trade
which respectively impede an expansion of international trade. Since the international community
is well aware of these underlying issues the work towards global harmonisation was carried
constantly. Proceedings have not been stopped after the success of Hague Rules. Four decades
later the amendments to Hague Rules have been produced and as well as its predecessor, the
protocol of Hague Visby Rules been widely accepted. However, international trade evermore been

sharp increase in a number of breakthroughs/innovations designated to serve the international trade.

Shamanistic Healing Essay
Shamanistic Healing
Shamanistic healing, one of the oldest spiritual healing powers, has recently become a topic of
interest in modern medicine.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a mix of magic, folklore, medicine and spirituality that evolved in tribal and gathering
communities thousands of years ago. Shamanic faith presumes that everyone and everything has a
spirit which is a part of a greater whole, and that spirits affect all events, including illness and
disease. In the tradition of Shamanism it is believed that certain people named shamans exhibit
particular magical specialties at birth; the most common specialization is that of a healer. A Shaman

First the physiological response is when the mind becomes absorbed in and focused on a dominant
idea and the nervous system is cut off from physical sensory input. The body exhibits reflex inertia,
involuntary nervous responses, and frenzy. Emotional perception, another form of ecstasy, refers to
overwhelming feelings of awe, anxiety, joy, sadness, fear, astonishment, passion, or any
combination of intense emotion. Finally, intuitive perception occurs when there is an
understanding of the transpersonal experience and expanded states of awareness or consciousness
are possible. While the physiological response is always present, the emotional response and
intuitive perception may not be within reach for all those who venture into ecstatic trance. Opposed
to general hypnosis, practicing shamanic techniques uses self hypnotic states to fine tune senses
and observe the inner workings of ones mind semi consciously. Research findings suggest that the

Louis Pasteur Research Paper
Individuals state that creating something is impossible without a place to start. One must embellish
simple ideas in order to create something much bigger. Louis Pasteur was a microbiologist that

using basic knowledge of microbiology(Robinson, 2009). He created the pasteurization process,
thought flexibly to improve medical treatments for disease, and illuminated the world by opening
possible discoveries for treatments of illnesses.
The discovery of Pasteurization in the nineteenth century metamorphosed the world of

Pasteur opened new opportunities for research to both doctors and microbiologists.
Pasteurization innovated the medical and the world of microbiology. Doctors began to put their
medical equipment through intense heat in order to kill microscopic organisms and bacteria
that can cause patients to fall victim to diseases. Before this discovery, hospitals cleaned tools
through water. This left germs on the equipment making hospitals unsanitary. Louis introduced
the idea that microscopic organisms are the reason for illnesses (World of Microbiology and
Immunology, 2006). This idea revolutionized the world of microbiology. Doing this gave
microbiologist a greater role in the medical field and opened a door to new possible research.
Being a French man in microbiology meant that research was hard to sponsor. The discovery of
pasteurization was just a risk that had a possibility of success. The fact that Pasteur took the risk
meant he was open to continuous learning (Biology, 2009). Louis Pasteur allowed medical and

Why Building Administrations Have A Developing Business...
Building administrations have been a developing business for a considerable length of time,

discharges enactment getting harder and rivalry getting harder, they understood that they required

  • 2. Shakespeare Cross Dressing 3)Throughout the semester, one thing that was noticeable throughout Shakespeare s plays was the cross dressing of women. The cross dressing of women occurred in Cymbeline, The Two Gentleman of Verona, and The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare appeared to be ahead of his time in knowing what we know now. Through showcasing women, successfully disguising as men Shakespeare proves that genderis nothing more than a performance. During this era, women were not allowed to play women parts in the Shakespeare plays. However, this did not stop Shakespeare from having women parts in his plays. Having men perform feminine parts in the plays did not stop people from attending the Shakespeare plays as well. What resonates in all three of these plays is that the women successfully fool the men with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare proves through these actions that gender is nothing, but a performance. These men have been men all their lives, but these women are better at being men than they are. Also, Shakespeare is hinting back on the narrative that people are not always, what they appear to be. In Shakespeare, the male characters take the women dressed up as men at face value. They never question the identity of the women pretending to be men. Here Shakespeare is debunking the subservient role of the women in society. All three of these women appear to be strong women who go after the things that they want. He was well ahead of his time showcasing that gender is just a performance. Also, the male characters in Shakespeare are always heavenly flawed, but the female characters appear to have little to no flaws. Although he has the women, characters transform back into their subservient roles he delivers his message. The viewing audience at the time probably was not ready for women of that stature yet. However, he proves a point that gender is just a performance and no sex is better than the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Video Art Evaluation I will give myself 79 for the video I shot. It is fairly engaged the project theme. It is a non narrative video and exactly one minute. I think the most prominent point of my video is the conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of video art and tell the differences between video art and filmand cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera (Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. So when I was shooting the video and found the images is somewhat blurred. But I thoughtthat was the best that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But when I was checking the videos, I heard very big noises which was produced by the camera itself( the camera is old and not in very good condition). I could not eliminate those noises no matter what I tried. Compared to contain those noises in my video, I believe it is better to eliminate the audio, which also create a atmosphere of calm and make the audience to appreciate the movement more ... • 4. Why I Want to Attend a Service Academy ct to gain from the Air Force Academy experience and how will it help you in your Air Force career? (250 to 300 words, 3000 characters max) My initial interest in the Air Force Academy was sparked when I accompanied my parents to a Military Child Education Coalition conference in the summer of 2004. My father and I, not involved in the conference, decided to spend the week exploring the Colorado Springs area, and after touring for several days, decided to go to what my father called Zoomie U . We took the typical summer tourist tour, but I was enthralled. The chapel, the mountains, and the campus excited me, despite my youth. I spent the rest of the vacation asking questions on how to go to the Academy, what I could do in the Air Force,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How did you resolve it? How did the outcome affect you? If something similar happens in the future, how would you react? (400 to 500 words, 3000 characters max) As a high school student, I am involved in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC). Due to high involvement and leadership potential, I was promoted to the Inspector General position, which pertains to Corps discipline and standards. When I initially accepted the position, I did not fully appreciate the effort or candor required, and it was not until several months into the assignment that I began to. In the AFJROTC chain of command, the Corps Commander has five people directly underneath him, namely; the Deputy Corps Commander, the Inspector General, two squadron commanders, and the Command Chief Master Sergeant. Typically, the Inspector General s concern is outside of these four, as they should be well behaved due to their high status. However, one morning, one of the top five publically berated another top five member due to her sexual orientation in the school hallway before class. The current military policy is don t ask, don t tell ; however, the concern was not her sexual orientation, but the fact that a high ranking cadet had shown a lack of awareness and political correctness in the situation. As the offense was public, if I did nothing, it would be an obvious dereliction of duty. If I did do something, it could be seen as selfishness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their explanation was, Errai is Arabic for shepherd, so we chose an Arabic word for sheep, which is herded by the shepherd. For the star Pollux (beta Germinorum), the exoplanet Pollux b is up for naming. One group proposed the name Leda, and said that in Greek mythology, the father of the twins Pollux and Castor is said to be either Zeus or Tyndareus (the king of Sparta) depending on which version you go by. But all versions have Leda as their mother, so it is fitting that the celestial version of Pollux is accompanied by his beautiful mother Leda in an everlasting celestial orbit. The system for 42 Draconis is home to the exoplanet 42 Draconis b, and both the star and its planet are up for naming. One group proposed that the star be named Vepolar, explaining that is is because it is the northern pole star of Venus. • 7. Tomography Critique Article Critique #1 Authors of the article Computed Tomography An Increasing Source of Radiation Exposure commend the diagnostic advantages of computed tomography (CT), but declare there is evidence and concern of the discipline s overuse in various patient populations, especially pediatrics. Of the more than 62 million CT scans per year, almost 16% of these exams are performed on children (David Hall, 2007, para. 1). The article s title and abstract clearly pinpoint the dilemma. With the rising number of CT procedures, the authors cause for concern is three fold: radiation doses received by the patient, cancer risks tied to ionizing radiation exposure and potential for latent effects in the general public (David Hall, 2007). Unfortunately, the article s abstract is lacking as it did not summarize what methodology is utilized or state a conclusion of the author s findings. The authors begin defending their stance by providing several reasons for the recent surge of CT procedures: rapid technological advances, convenience to the patient and cost effectiveness (David Hall, 2007). The calculated dose a patient receives from a CT procedure is only an estimated exposure dose. To date, a patient s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Similarities Between The Balloon And The Red Balloon GEORGETA HARPAD ESL 101 JOBST Love and Friendship Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture, etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time into a wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it . The short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by Albert Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon. The Balloon film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple black balloon with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night while people were sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship between a boy called Pascal, and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds through fiction to combine reality, the wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I believe that their differences are more striking than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The Red Balloon have a similar high point. In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon appears on a street where a bad boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The presence of the balloon in that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his way to sky to admire the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film avoid an act of violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to steal and destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase. It sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red balloon dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon films are almost opposites. First of all, their score is very different. The Balloon film sound source is the song with lyrics titled Time to Leave of the band Suicide DJs. The lyrics can provide depth, powerful to the song, and make the audience to ... Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine Mystique, which she criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to become a mother, wife, and housewife. She said, When she [woman] stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally began to enjoy being a woman(Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an immense role in telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned genderroles and biological sexes. For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family because they show more feelings and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes them to form their identities, seek satisfaction and freedom in lives. Once these gender labels and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A Literary and Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage leaves no space for women (79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is essentially significant as personal freedom. Consider if a woman does not feel she has enough space in a relationship, that means her granted freedom is restricted too because personal space is created when the other half is willing to give you liberty to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given that space and freedom in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful will bending hers (Chopin 525). Although Louise does not mention whether her husband has abused her, the description that she gives about him indicates she lives a life of imprisonment. In other words, she sees the house she is living as a prison in which liberty, happiness, and personal space are unreachable. By making this comparison and providing this source of information about Mr. Mallard, Chopin has effectively allowed readers to understand Louise s attitudes and opinions toward her husband. Moreover, she has successfully appealed to the female readers pathos because they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s situation as Chopin s choice of using the word bending shows Louise undergoes ... He believes that each family is different and that his birth order scale just happens to be a possible tool to help people understand the general roles of children. Even though Adler states the types of position you were born are important, he also describes his birth orderscale as it is not birth order itself that accounts for differences among siblings, but the psychological situation resulting from it (Allen, 2006). For example, you may be an only child, but take on many or possible more characteristics of a middle child based on Adler s description. Although Adler believes in the characteristics he stated for each birth orders, he states that if there are more than three years between the children, that the birth order may appear different or inaccurate. In addition, I believe that Adler was pretty accurate when stating the characteristics on the position of birth. I am an only child in which Adler states are very comfortable with adults, may have a special unique gift for their birth order, and tend to have a harder time sharing with others. He also states that only child tend to want to be the center of attention (Allen, 2006). I believe I fit this birth order pretty accurately. • 19. The Superhero Genre Is Classified By A Fight Of Good Vs. Evil The superhero genre is classified by a fight of good vs. evil. The heroes and the villains are complex characters driven by motives that are not always black and white. Besides dealing with fictional characters, superhero comic books often incorporate real life difficulties, such as racism, sexism, and drug use. The storylines are driven by the superheroes fight against the forces of evil, but the underlying story often deals with conflicting moral dilemmas and self doubt. The superheroes have secret identities and strut around in colorful costumes, but behind these personas, lay a story of triumph and defeat. The true appeal of comics is not the colorful character who follows it but the dark, gritty storylines that cause the reader to view the world and humanity in a new light. In Batman#134 , written in 1960 by Bill Finger, a few of these requirements are addressed. This comic follows Batman and Robin s adventure in an undisclosed South American republic. The major conflict lies with a man named Diaz, who releases a monster known as The Rainbow Creature. This creature terrorizes the village until Batman uses his world class detective skills to defeat the beast. The storyline is quickly wrapped up in a span of nine pages, and the childish tone of the comic causes the intrigue of the story to be lost on the reader. On the other hand, Batman: Ego, written by Darwyn Cooke in 2000, deals with the harsh atmosphere of Gotham. The comic tells the story of a wounded Batman and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the temporal pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may contain characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would expect some type of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained BCCH like elements (e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes per song, etc.). It is possible that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations also varies based on the structure of the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song types recorded in Illinois contain introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song. Perhaps most notably, the Greenville dialect starts with a two note phrase that is similar in frequency to a typical BCCH song (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is shorter and more similar to a typical CACH song. With aberrant vocalizations containing elements of both parental song types, a parental bird could be responding to a particular phrase or other element within the song which elicits a response similar to a true conspecific song. Further investigation would be necessary to compare responses from partial songs or from playbacks that have been manipulated to express different song characteristics. He makes some very good points where anyone would be convinced that physician assisted death could be questioned on their ethics and policies. They fear that it brings more inadequate physician care to actually try to save the patient or to reduce the pain. This leads to poor physician and patient quality in their relationship and reduces the commitment they have with each other. In the third issue, those who oppose fear that with physician assisted death, people will try to abuse this by trying to tempt elderly and disabled people to take this medication for their own benefit and feel that the burden will be uplifted if they do choose to go through with it. The last problem they argue is that it violates human dignity and denies equality before the law. This is where ethics comes into play between the physician and the patient. The physicians have a tough decision to see if the patient is eligible for the medication or not and it is up to the patient to determine if they do want to end their life with all their family and friends to feel the burden. In addition to summarizing these articles, I will also be adding my own views and comments throughout this paper. The first article is by April London, entitled Controlling the Text: Women in Tom Jones. London begins by stating that Fielding uses a metaphor between property and women throughout the text in Tom Jones. She states that Fielding plays with the multiple meanings of property, undercutting the equation of female and helplessness, to offer versions of power unconstrained by gender which are. . . contradicted by . . .... This double standard is actually stated and justified by another woman, which accurately highlights the way of thinking in the 18th century that Fielding evidently recognized. Later, when Molly is found to be pregnant, Allworthy lectures Tom much in the same way he lectured Jenny Jones years ago, but according to Carlton, Fielding minimizes its impact in Tom s case (399). These two instances are a few of many examples of this double standard for men and women. Carlton sums up the view of women when he states, Fielding relies on . . . the traditional view of women, implicit in the fact that it is always the woman who is the aggressor in Tom s affairs . . . women are perceived as either purer than they are or more sexually ravenous than they are (the familiar virgin/whore polarization), but never simply as they are. At one extreme, they are seen as semidivine beings . . . at the other, women are portrayed as insatiable sinks of lust (399 400). Sophia and Lady Bellaston seem to represent these two extremes precisely. Sophia is often referred to with heavenly and divine inferences, while Lady Bellaston is the instigator of an on going affair with Tom. This was first discovered by Fujishima and Honda in 1972, where the photocatalystic properties of titanium dioxide were found to be applicable. It was shown that by converting ultraviolet light energy, this compound acts as a catalyst to produce hydroxyl in the presence of moisture in the air. Hydroxl then can oxidize and convert these harmful pollutants to HNO3. The reason that this is useful is because nitrogenoxideis a common pollutant which has many adverse effects to society. Nitrogen oxides may form into nitric acid which contributes to acid rain, and it also chemically reacts to sunlight and changes into ozone which additionally has many adverse health effects for living organisms and non living things alike. The health related issues are a major reason to reduce emissions of NOxbecause although health is important, money is an issue as well. We will explore the nature of access as it contrasts to ownership and sharing, specifically the consumer object, consumer consumer, and consumer marketer relationships. Three aspects are identified to distinguish among the range of access based consumption: temporality, consumer involvement and market mediation. The nature of exchange, consumption and brand community are discussed. http:/ /jcr.oxfordjournals.org/content/39/4/881 Many studies have shown car sharing reduces the cost of transportation for a large segment of urban dwellers. It also reduces the number of cars on the road because the members do not own cars. Zipcar is a company founded in 2000 by Antje Danielson and Robin Chase. It is proven that humans are more attracted to other humans if their bodies and faces are more proportional. What determines if humans are in proportion is the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio originates from Greece and is based on Fibonacci Numbers created by Leonardo Fibonacci in 1200 AD, which is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two numbers before it , for example 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 and so on. If you divide every number by the one in front of it you get decimals that are very close to each other for example: 1.60, 1.61, 1.62. This is where we get Phi from (1.6180339887) . Such seasonal congregating and breaking up of settlements occurred even in Greenland and western Alaska ; during the summer, people would leave the permanent communities and live in animal skin tents at favourite spots for seal hunting, for fishing, or for collecting birds, eggs, and plants. More specifically, shipowners may face eight different risktypes during their operation in the tanker market. These risks can be categorized into the following types (Kavussanos and Visvikis 2006): Business risk: Is the risk generated by volatility in freight rates which cause uncertainty to the shipowner s income, in other words fluctuations in EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes). It depends on the demand and the price of the product sold. It is influenced by (a) freight rates, (b) voyage costs (fuel costs, port charges, canal dues and broking commissions), (c) operating costs (manning, repairs, maintenance, stores, insurance and administration) and finally (d) exchange rates as income is counted in US dollars while costs are counted in current exchange. When this tests is being undertaken the bacterium turns a purple colour when looking through a microscope. This is due to the thick peptidoglycan layer in the cell wall, as it retains the strain after being washed in the decolorization stage. However due the thicker peptidoglycan layer staphylococcusis more receptive of antiseptics due to the absence of an outer membrane. Escherichia coli (E.coli) is a gram negative bacterium meaning that it is bacteria that does not retain crystal violet after the decolorization step. However alcohol used in this stage degrades the outer membrane making the cell wall more porous and incapable of retaining the crystal violet strain. Compared to staphylococcus epidermidis their peptidoglycan layer is much thinner and is surrounded between an inner cell membrane and a bacterial outer membrane. It is a facultative anaerobe, which is an organism that makes ATP by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present. However it is capable of switching to anaerobic respiration is oxygen is not present. With the amount of time most individuals have been reading, this task is relatively easy. Yet, there are still instances in which we are reading a novel, a magazine, or even a simple text message, and we simply cannot manage to remember what we read. This is event is due to interference. Interference theory states that there are two forms of interference that can hinder our ability to properly encode information into our memory (Bergstrom 1892), proactive interference and retroactive interference. This implies that when we are presented with a word, the action of stating its color is a relatively new task compared to the already learnt behavior to read just words. Therefore, reading is seen as the automatic process which interferes with the slower controlled process of stating the color. With the alteration of the original Stroop Effect experiment, the automaticity model is discredited due to the fact that instead of stating the word the participant points at the observed color instead. • 51. The Scientific Management And Human Relations Organisational behaviour is influenced by two main theories, scientific management and human relations. The scientific management approach developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor is one of the earliest ideological approaches which attempted to explain a management process scientifically. The main goal was to find the techniques to improve production efficiency of workers scientifically. On the contrary, human relations studied by Elton Mayo studied the social interactions within a working environment. Through his studies, he found that social relationships motivates workers at their workplaces (Daft Samson 2014; Miller Form, 1964).Based on the two approaches, this paper looks into the assumptions made on workers; the path managers should take to maximise the efficiency of workers and lastly, my choice between these two approaches as a worker. Scientific management assumes the economic man concept where a worker acts rationally to protect their own interests. In this case, the workers interest lies in money. Therefore, the worker does what is asked of them for a better wage. For example, Schimdt did as instructed for a pay of $1.85 per hour which is higher than the average of $1.15 per hour. By following the instructions given, he managed to load 47 tons a day instead of the average of 12 and a half tons (Miller Form 1964).
