Genre, Plot, And Theme Of This Play
1) Discuss the genre, plot, and theme of this play.
The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is
centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a
rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted
or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close
down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest
moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending.
2) Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not?
I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and
sing along at times. The production was very good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers.
The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the overall
story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors
did a very convincing job. The vocals were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The
small stage and limited seating at the Virginia Samford Theatre were strengths. The actors were close
and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play.
3) Which actors did a convincing job? Describe their technique.
I was very impressed with the quality of Birmingham talent. Many of the main

The Delivery Of Communication And Differentiated Instruction
Although using different teaching strategies is necessary in a differentiated music class, simply using
them is not necessarily differentiating instruction. I like to think of strategies as the delivery of
communication and differentiated instruction as the specific individual implementation of strategies.
For example in a music class, one of my strategies of keeping students engaged is to use simple
percussion instruments for developing rhythmic proficiency. The differentiated instruction is provided
by taking individual needs into consideration. For example, a student who is easily aurally overloaded,
I would hand that student a quieter instrument and/or suggest he/she use body percussion or ask them
to sit where they feel comfortable in class relative to the sound being produced. For younger children
who are sound sensitive, I would suggest using earplugs or head sets. It is important to remember that
using a variety of teaching strategies is not the same as differentiating the instruction. In this case
engagement was the overarching strategy and the differentiated instruction was specific to each
student while still keeping them engaged.
Differentiated Instruction is a student focused way of thinking of teaching and learning. It is important
to establish clear and concise guidelines for independent and group work, as well as movement within
a classroom. I will also discuss guidelines in general that I would setup for these areas. In

Explain The Key Components Of A Pharmacist
There are many key components needed to become a successful pharmacist. Three important factors
that make up my personal creed include being caring, determined, and respectful. In school and as
pharmacist it is vital to carry yourself in a professional manner in the way you dress and speak to best
articulate information to patients, colleagues, and other healthcare providers. Learning as much
possible in every class and situation will provide a stronger foundation of the material to help
understand the circumstance and different patients. Being caring towards patients is important by
providing them with the best experience. When a patient is comfortable with their healthcare provider
it becomes easier to discuss any abnormal behaviors or feelings.

Descriptive Essay On Bohttac Garden
A long, cement paved path led me to a green well painted gate, which separated the tranquility of the
Botanic Gardens, which lay on the east side of the rowdy University of California Riverside Campus.
On a mission to learn more about the Gardens and all it has to offer, I scheduled to meet up with Pam
Ferre, an Administrative Assistant, who knew a significant amount of information about the Gardens.
We agreed to meet up at Schneider House, but as I walked through I lost myself in the beauty that
nature here had to offer causing me to lose track of the asphalt road that should have directed me to
our meet up destination. The UCR Botanic Gardens is composed of 40 acres, of which thriving plant
and animal species call their home. Knowing how enormous the Gardens are, I cell phoned Pam
instead of struggling to find my way through the several footpaths. Finally, we gathered at the turtle
pond where Pam approached me with a smile, dressed in a flowing white blouse, round black
sunglasses, and stylish hiking sandals, an outfit fit for the 100 degree weather. Underneath the canopy
of the Sequoia Sempervirens, trees which towered several feet high, we sat on a stone bench. From
our point we overlooked a pond in which three medium sized turtles rested on a small log which had
fallen from a tree near by. As the birds chirped soothing tunes above us and lizards zigzagged across
the dirt path Pam began to tell me about UCR s Botanic Gardens. Well, my first question is for you
Pam.

The Show, Mad Men, By Roger Sterling
Some people believe that the more money a person has, the less satisfied the person is in life. Women
s emotions are not affected the same, but some women s emotions are affected differently by dealing
with different men with different income compared to other men. The show, Mad Men, takes place in
the 1960 s New York, portraying the life of the protagonist, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the Creative
Director of Sterling Cooper Agency, an advertising agency owned by Roger Sterling (John Slattery).
Don Draper is praised for his work, but many of the employees in the company, like Draper, are filled
with arrogance and disrespect that not only the men face, but the women tolerate. The episode Shoot
mainly focuses on how Don does not want his wife, Betty Draper (January Jones), to model again, on
how the agency is trying to figure out how to stop John F. Kennedy s campaign on the air, and how
Don is trying to figure out to leave Sterling Cooper Agency and work for McCann Erikson Firm, a
different advertising agency. Throughout the episode, many can notice the men degrading and utilizing
the women in the episode by making rude, sexual remarks towards the women or competing to be
better than the women. Betty symbolizes a married woman who becomes more dependent as her
husband becomes more successful. Betty s expectation to be a dutiful, nurturing mother is displayed in
her mother daughter relationship. This episode s depiction of working, single women indicates that
single women are

The Pros And Cons Of Egoism
Egoism is the theory that one ought to do what is in one s self interest. One is to maximize their own
self interest and potential. One cannot prosper if they contain their own interests and needs in order to
satisfy the interests of others. Once morality is obtained by one protecting their personal interests and
content with it, then they are able to satisfy the interests of others. Egoism is similar to that anything
that would aid in survival is good and anything that hampers survival is evil. There are two types of
egoism, psychological or descriptive egoism and ethical or normative egoism. Psychological egoism is
that humans are only driven by self interest. For example if one were to help another human being, the
sole reason is because the individual directly or indirectly benefits from this experience. Ethical
egoism is that it is significant and acceptable for an action to be morally ... Show more content on

Thomas Hobbes argues that egoism is valid through a sense of morality and that an individual will end
up being altruistic through his views of egoism. Ayn Rand another famous philosopher states that one
can only be either altruistic or egoistic. One cannot be both. Ayn Rand believes an individual has value
and that the only philosophy that states that an individual has self worth is egoism. Ethical egoism is
often based off the fact that psychological egoism is true and this entails that we always act
egotistically and cannot prevent ourselves from acting this way. An example of this would be if one
were to donate to a charity that helps little kids. In terms of psychological egoism the individual didn t
donate money to the charity to help kids, that would altruistic, one did it because one wanted to.

Religious Conflict in Russia
RELIGIOUS CONFLICT IN RUSSIA
One of the great ironies of history is that Marxism, an atheistic theory, was first implemented in
Russia—a land inhabited by millions of believers practicing most of the world s great religions. In fact,
religion is so integral to the culture and history of Russia, it would be impossible to gain a full
understanding for the unique character of the country and its people without a careful examination of
the religious factors at play throughout its history.
BACKGROUND
Basic Demographics Any discussion of Russia must begin with its single most striking feature—its
sheer vastness. During World War II, a German general noted how his troops were depressed by the
monotony of the landscape and the immensity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of languages, Russian is the common official language throughout the Federation, understood
by 99 percent of its current inhabitants and widespread in many adjacent areas of Asia and Eastern
Europe. However, national subdivisions of Russia have additional official languages, further reflecting
the diverse ethnicity of the country. As a result, there are more than 100 languages spoken throughout
the nation, most tied to the particular ethnic groups from which they sprang.
Economics and Education Perhaps the most significant impact of the collapse of the Soviet Union in
1991 has been the economic chaos which subsequently consumed the country. For five years
following the collapse, Russia saw its comparatively developed centrally planned economy contract
severely. It was not until 1997 that Russia began to show signs of recovery as a result of its new open
market policies. Since that time, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country has grown by an
average of 6.7 percent per year, largely on the back of oil exports, as well as a steadily developing
service and industrial output. Currently, Russia s GDP by purchasing power parity (PPP) is
approximately $1.5 trillion, making it the ninth largest economy in the world and the fifth largest in
Europe. If this growth rate is sustained, the country will become the second largest European economy
after Germany and the sixth largest in

Frederick Douglass And Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels
Both authors Frederick Douglass and Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels focus on the topic of freedom.
Both authors argue that they are being oppressed. However, this is where the similarities end. Engels
and Marx believed that capitalism was a social system used by the proletariats to oppress the
bourgeoisie, and that the only way to be free was to fight back against the system. On the other hand,
Frederick Douglass focuses more on his individual story and his struggle for freedom, while he tries to
appeal to his audience from an ethical point of view. Frederick Douglass biography revolves around
the idea of freedom. After seeing a traumatizing incident as a child, Douglass slowly begins to realize
that he is not a free human being, but is a slave owned by other people. He is surrounded by a society
that devalues him and people like him, and systematically worked to keep them ignorant and
submissive. In this society, it is made clear that no slave is special, and everyone is replaceable. Rather
than accept this, Douglass struggles to maintain what little autonomy he was allowed to have. When
his one of his masters, Thomas Auld, bans his mistress, Sophia, from teaching Douglass how to read,
Douglass learned from the young boys on the street. His biography shows him transforming from an
ignorant child into his older, more learned self. Douglass sees the idea of slaves in a country that is as
passionate as about its revolution as America hypocritical; in fact, this is the basis

The Scenarios Of Consumer s Futures 2020
By 2020, the world could develop into a myriad of different scenarios, but there is no one scenario
that can accurately represent what the US, let alone the world, will become even in four short years.
The four scenarios in Consumer s Futures 2020 has options that could unfold, but it is unlikely in such
a short timeframe. Nevertheless, the most likely of the four presented scenarios to me is sell it to me.
This is because the scenario allows people to keep spending and minimizes the work individuals have
to put into becoming more sustainable. It also marks a more prosperous, flourishing economy that
enables the option to buy more selectively the brands and products that intrigue them. Lastly, this
scenario utilizes the technology that we are already hyper reliant on to generate more personalized
business. Many of these aspects are already occurring to some degree, but I can see them becoming
more prominent over time.
The market is currently well on the mend, with unemployment rates decreasing and overall incomes
increasing; I disagree with the scenario as, contrary to scenario 3, awareness of income inequality is
more mainstream and being combated. With this increasing upward mobility, consumers want to buy
more and more, as many US citizens mark their prosperity on how much you can buy. Already
emerging is the demand for organic foods to be sold in conventional grocery stores. People also spend
a little extra to buy brands that give them the perception of wealth like

Non-Allowing And Non Yielding Rein
Hands:
Allowing: This is the way we use the reins most of the time. Neither allowing so much that you lose
the contact nor have such a dead contact that the horse leans on it.
Non allowing/ Non yielding Rein: This is when you stop allowing by clenching your fingers on the
reins and tightening the muscles in your arms so that they cannot be moved forward. This blocks the
forward momentum and can achieve such movements as trot to walk or halt. A non yielding also used
when there is a contact problem. It is just applied for a second or split second. You would first apply
your seat and legs aids and then this rein to remind the horse to go forward into contact.

According to Bowen Family Systems Therapy, a healthy family functioning has low anxiety, high
levels of differentiation of self, and contact with family members. However, problems occur when
there are underlying problems of emotional fusion passed from generation to generation and the
amount of stress exceeds family s ability to manage it. Patterns are meant to solve the problem of

Vitiligo Essay
Vitiligo is a skin ailment that causes untimely death of melanocytes (pigment producing cells), leaving
the skin white. The Vitiligo affects males and females alike, generally appearing before an individual
reaches the age of forty. It is a very depressing situation for a person often leading to low self
confidence. Causes Vitiligo seems to befall when the immune cells destroy the cells which yield the
brown pigment (melanocytes). It is believed that this demolition occurs by an autoimmune problem,
but the reason is unknown. Vitiligo can appear at any age. There is a high rate of this ailment in some
families. Vitiligo affects about 1 in every 100 individuals. It is also related with three other

These regions have a darker edge. The edges are well demarcated but irregular. Vitiligo most often
affects the face, elbows, knees, hands, feet and genitals. It affects both flanks of the body likewise.
Vitiligo is more obvious in individuals with darker skin owing to the contrast between the white spots
and dark skin. Vitiligo cure information The vitiligo cure is tough, but there are substitute treatments.
The first treatment options are:  Phototherapy, a medical process in which the skin is cautiously
exposed to ultraviolet light. Phototherapy can be executed alone or after consumption of a drug that
causes the skin to become sensitive to light. A dermatologist is who implements this treatment. 
Lotions or ointments with corticosteroids.  Lotions or ointments with immunosuppressants such as
pimecrolimus (Elidel) and tacrolimus (Protopic).  Topical medicines It is possible to confiscate skin
(graft) of usually pigmented regions and places it in the regions with loss of pigment. In extreme
circumstances, where the bulk of the body is affected, the skin still has residual pigment can be

Similarities Between 1984 And Star Trek
The movie Star Trek and 1984 are similar because they both include torturing, pain, and the force for
winning over. In both of the story, both Picard and Winston were inserted in some sort of device into
their body which when O Brien or Madred press the button, the level of pain will decrease or increase.
The only answers that are acceptable to them, is the answers that they want, not the actual right
answer. In Star Trek, Madred asked Picard how many lights there are and Picard responded with four
lights, but what Madred wanted to hear was five lights. Because Picard did not give the right answer
that Madred wanted, Madred pressed the button which increases the level of pain to the point Picard
would faint. In 1984, O Brien asked Winston

1984 Mind Control Analysis
In our modern world we don t often think about the possibility that somebody could potentially gain
control of our minds. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a fact. In
the book 1984 as well as in real life mind control proves to be a key technique in gaining power and
control over people.
In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping the
way they think. They don t want their people to obey their rules because of fear or a sense of duty,
rather they want the people to wholeheartedly believe in the government. Using mind control
techniques the ingsoc government transforms its people into beings who cannot think on their own,
but need guidance for every part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in 1984.
However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way. People
such as marines go into the program believing that they will just be taught how to protect their
country, but the disciplinary measures they go through often consist of mind control. They are
expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking.
These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following.
All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full control
over their own minds. However most of the examples provided in Captive Minds are quite different
than the methods in 1984 in the fact that they aren t brutally forced. In Canada we don t have to spend
our days worrying that someone will force us into joining a mind washing cult. The only thing we
have to do is avoid joining organizations or groups with blind faith by finding out what they are about

Social Stratification and Class Essay
Today in the United States, we read in the newspapers constantly about the state of classes in our
country. For instance, it is often said at tax time that the Federal budget is balanced on the backs of the
middle class. To people in the lower class, the promise is held that in a capitalist society, by working
hard you can lift yourself out of the lower income bracket to join the middle class. Entrepreneurs who
can find a need and fill it can make it into the upper class. The point is that this kind of thinking, a
product of social stratification theory, is ingrained upon our minds. As a society, we accept it as a fact
that we live in a multi tiered class system, and that this is the way it should be because it is ... Show

An example of a social stratification model can be made of the Feudal System, with a dominant
nobility (betters). Barons were at the upper strata, higher than the knights, who were at a lower strata.
The subjected masses (lessers) were serfs and peasants; undoubtedly some were more clever and
successful than others who occupied a lower strata. Another model would be the current United States,
where the social strata starts with the upper upper class, the upper class, the upper middle class, and so
on down to the poor, or lower lower class. In highly detailed social stratification models, trends and
analyses are very complex. An excellent example of this is The Process of Stratification: Trends and
Analyses by Robert Hauser and David Featherman. The many pages of tables and detailed analysis are
exceedingly difficult to comprehend, which makes them difficult to use. A model of social
stratification is a snapshot in time which details the society as it exists at that time. In The Persistence
of Social Inequality in America, John Dalphin states that social stratification suggests that a society
has divisions, cleavages, or splits within it. More specifically, it means that a society is divided into
hierarchically arranged levels of families (and,

Education Has An Significant Correlation On Health Outcomes.

diabetes 37 years ago. She has developed a pressure ulcer on her left foot, which has increasingly
worsened and become necrotic in certain areas. She has had uncontrolled diabetes for many years and

Research indicates that low education that occurs early in childhood has long term implications on
health and mortality. According the Canadian facts, when an individual has a higher education, they
have improved health outcomes. This is often related to the fact that education increases income,
employment and provides improved job security. Education also produces enhanced literacy.
Education allows for individuals to have an improved comprehension of the societal aspects that
influence their health. Furthermore, by having improved education, a patient can advocate for their
health, implement healthier lifestyle choices and seek out appropriate resources to enhance their
health. The literature also demonstrates that poor education is equated with increased hospitalization
stays, the use of emergency services and reduced medication compliance (Mikkonen, Raphael, 2010).
Recommendations for Change at Level of the Healthcare Provider
The recommendations for change to practice at the level of the provider would include first treating
the underlying problem that Mrs. Smith was admitted for. According to the literature, a progressively
worsening diabetic foot ulcer requires implementing a multitude of strategies to prevent amputation of
the limb. Adequate wound management, including debridement if required, and offloading techniques
should be instilled for Mrs. Smith. Furthermore, education by the provider would be of critical
importance for

activity in all 50 states and U.S. territories. Although most gang activity is concentrated in major urban
areas, gangs also are proliferating in rural and suburban areas of the country as gang members flee
increasing law enforcement pressure in urban areas or seek more lucrative drug markets. This
proliferation in non urban areas increasingly is accompanied by violence and is threatening society in
general (Decker, 1996). The code of the street is silence and to snitch is death. Everyone within
Calliope projects knows this so no one talks, not even to the police. In the distance music from a radio
playing Hand on pump finger on the trigger (Cypress Hill) can be heard as men laughing and joke

Brain Stimulation Experiment
In this experiment to find out the effect that stimulation has on the brain fuction of young kids/test
subjects. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the
ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were
crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and
how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The
dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as
well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to
speed up transmission of impulses through brain cells which means that the more of this enzyme
found, the more advanced brain function the rat has. Another dependent variable was whether the rat s
brain was smooth or if it had more complex folds which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to having had no inside sources affect with the aftereffect of the experiment. The internal
validity in this study was the code numbers on the rats when they were looking for results this was
important because this way no one was able to try to look for ordinary things that would normally be
missed; but since the scientist knew what he was looking for he found it and because of that it wouldn

a one time fluke that even after doing it with many different rats the results were still the same. They
also used rats from the same litter to make sure the rats were as similar as possible to further increase
validity. This also means that someone at a different lab would be able to recreate the experiment.

Compare And Contrast Amigos Mexicanos And Mayan Dusk
Amigos Mexicanos and Mayan Dusk are fictional stories written by Juan Villoro. Both stories had
many similarities mainly with both of them having unnamed protagonists as well as both being written
in first person. These stories show a different side of Mexico and Mexican people. This approach
taken by Villoro as well as his style of writing and use of humor gives quite some insight into Mexican
life and Culture. One of the first things that I have noticed whilst reading these short stories was
Villoros interesting use of pronouns. Which was evident more so in Mayan Dusk . The author starts of
by using we which gives a sense of unity. However, as the story proceeds pronouns begin to change
from we to I and it s quite evident that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shaw was able to equate the success of these films to the new and unconventional approaches taken
by the directors, which mainly showed a more watered down version of Mexico and its culture in
order to attract international audiences. This was seen in Like water for chocolate in its portrayal of
Mexico as an ideal and tourist friendly Mexico. However, in Amores Perros Shaw believed the vast
success was also attributed to the director s focus on making the characters relatable and familiar.
These ideas and motives behind the success of these films was made clear by Shaw s historical
knowledge gave much needed insight into the history of Mexican film. This insight not only helped in
expanding the readers knowledge of Mexican film but it has also helped in linking Mexican films to
the cultrate and identity of the Mexican people. Shaw was also able to give in depth understsning of

Essay Coming of Age in Society
When growing up most of us has heard the saying, the apple does not fall far from the tree. This quote
is intended to tell a child that he or she is reflecting a trait similar to their parent. This quote does not
only reflect children as they mirror their parents, but also how a society mirrors its government. As a
child grows, he or she is taught to act a certain way through reinforcements given by the parents.
Reinforcements can be either positive or negative. A parent gives their child a yellow sticker to reward
him or her for picking up their toys. This is an example of a positive reinforcement because the parent
wants the child to repeat that behavior. If a parent takes away a child s toy to teach him or her that it is
wrong to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a driver is pulled over for speeding, their license is taken away; therefore negative
reinforcement is being used. As a child grow up, he or she is usually lectured by their parent about
rules. Rules about curfew, television hours, computer hours, study hours, chores, and more. These
rules are set to help the child be more like the parent. If a parent does not like the act of burping and
believes it is improper, he or she may stop a child burping for the purpose of making the child act like
them, the parent might say no burping inside the house in a very strict manner. Similar to a
government, a government will make rules to help make society be more like the government. For
example, the constitution is full of laws to which we as a society are supposed to follow. These rules
were made by the government and therefore are in favor of the government s expected behavior. If our
society follows them, then aren t we acting in favor of their behavior, which is how they behave?
Sometime apples will fall far from the tree though, these are the rebellions. Going against a parent s
teaching and behavioral expectation is seen as bad and rebellious. For example if parent told their
child that ear piercings are not allowed and the child gets their ears pierced that following weekend he
or she is not following their parent s rule. In comparison society too, just as the child, can be
rebellious. For example, when their was an amendment that banished

Allusion In John Cuddon s The Moon And The Stars
12) ča:nd ɔr ta:re (Moon and Stars) In the poem The Moon and the Stars, show the star fatigue caused
by the eternal journey. The moon reminds them that movement is the essence of life and only those
who endure; those who are tired will die. The poet recognizes that the arrest of the movement leads to
historical gains; Human history is prescribed in a universe where change is the eternal law of time.
But the universe continues to grow and numerous treasures complement its history at every moment.
Iqbal finds hope in the consciousness of this eternal change. 4.2. 2: Allusion Cuddon (1992) stated
that, Allusion is usually an implicit reference, perhaps to another work of literature or art, to a person
or an event. It is often a kind of appeal to a reader to share some experience with the writer. An
allusion may enrich the work by association and give it depth. When using allusion a writer tends to
assume an established literary tradition, a body of common knowledge with an audience sharing that
tradition and an ability on the part of the audience to pick up the reference. The following kinds may
be roughly distinguished: A reference to events and people, Reference to facts about the author
himself, a metaphorical allusion, an imitative allusion . Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a
person, place, thing or idea of historical, cultural, literary or political significance. It does not describe
in detail the person or thing to which it refers. It is just a

Christopher Columbus s `` The Harp And The Shadow `` Essay
For many centuries, Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a hero who founded America. As
many may discover, later in life, Christopher Columbus can be considered to be the head of a mass
genocide. Alejo Carpentier s novel, The Harp and the Shadow, shines light on the evils of Christopher
Columbus with a fictional twist. Victoria Chase states, Carpentier combines an Old World perspective,
formed by tradition, expectation and necessity, with a decidedly New World sense of its origin and
history (Chase 28). This paper will examine despite what Christopher Columbus was famed to be, he
is demythologized by Alejo Carpentier s novel when the true side of Columbus is exposed. Alejo
Carpentier writes this new historical novel for a reason: These novels have as a unique feature: their
closeness to the events described in the chronicles of the Indies. It has been their purpose to preserve
what was already told thru conquest documents, yet making subtle variations to reinforce their
agendas (Atia 42). Many point out that Carpentier wrote this novel because of his political visions of
the time, His writings were by and a large notable critique of bourgeois society and Western
civilization. The Harp and the Shadow provides sufficient evidence of that intellectual attitude in his
passionate condemnation of colonialism and the imposition of bourgeois values in the new continent
(Atia 22 23). Carpentier demythologized Columbus because of these reasons. He begins The Hand

Working Rights In The Late 1800s And Early 1900s
The working conditions and working rights in the late 1800s and early 1900s were lacking and
required some help to make more humane. Before any of the laws that helped reform our nation,
working in mines or factories was dangerous and not worth the effort. Secondly, the hours were
unethical, as workers sometimes had to toil away for 12 hours, seven days a week with a one day
break every two weeks. Workers who were fighting for their rights were not alone, as there were some
people who also believed morality was more important at the moment. The changes made were for the
better and made the world of hard labor a better place. Thankfully, these rules were not ever taken
away and people now live to know that they will earn the money and rights that they deserve.
A miner from the 1800s had to work hard for little bits of money. One specific miner went to a school
with his three brothers, although it was not a good school since schools back then were not the best,
until he was twelve, when he went to pick slate. There were five kids that worked there, one of which
was crushed by 50 tons of rock one week before he was to get married. There were many risks in
mining, like falling rock, miner s asthma, powder, smoke, poisonous gases, and bad air. Miners were
living unfair lives and that was fixed well (Doc 1). In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt helped the lives of
mine workers by decreasing the time for miners to work from 12 hours to 9. Roosevelt also gave
workers a wage increase,

Relationships Among Bim, Ipd, And Lean Construction
Relationships among BIM, IPD, and Lean Construction
In general, IPD, Lean, or BIM is a particularly new controversial phenomenon in the construction
industry that generates many debates and discussions around each component s advantages and
disadvantages, effectiveness, and potential risks (Guerra, 2010). As BIM s complementary connection
to IPD, there are numerous questions regarding requirements of using BIM in IPD based projects.
Like BIM IPD considerations, is Lean construction really necessary for every IPD related project or
only enforced by the project team favor? Interestingly, many construction professionals question that
whether or not IPD can implement without the use of BIM as well as Lean principles. One step at a
time, these inquiries are still exploring by experts and analysts whereas attempting efforts of
combining those three elements in construction projects are currently promoted as dominant
worldwide tendencies. Thus, interdependent corporations of ILB need to be carefully evaluated in
order to flawlessly synergy them in real world cases. Specific partnerships for each combination of
two factors will be subsequently revealed and examined in next section. Figure 2.1 points out the
MacLeamy Curve for construction phases and costs through perspectives of Construction Users
Roundtable (CURT, 2004). As mentioned above, IPD, Lean construction, and BIM not only

Restorative Justice Model And Domestic Violence
Introduction Beginning in the late 1960 s there began a shift in societal values from punishment of
criminal behavior towards addressing the needs of the victims of crime. The questions being asked
shifted from what law was broken to who was hurt. (Calhoun, 2013) It can be said that even today
there still appears some controversy over the effectiveness and place of restorative justice however it
has begun to infiltrate legislation. In Kansas K.S.A. 21 5414 (Domestic Battery) recently passed the
requirement that all domestic violence offenders are required to undergo assessment and treatment
from a certified batterers intervention program; a form of restorative justice. With this in mind the
focus of subsequent discussion will be around defining terminology in restorative justice and domestic
violence, effectiveness and implications, use in social work case management, and potential
improvements to be made.
Description of Restorative Justice Model and Domestic Violence Offenders One of the major roots
founded in the core of restorative justice is the connection, no matter how damaging, that links a
victim to their offender. There is forever a connection developed between the victim and offender
despite the lack of a previous knowledge of each other. The practice of RJ has been developed on
three baselines; preparation, encounter, and follow up. During preparation the provider focuses on

Pancho Villa, The Bandit
Pancho Villa was smart but tricky. Villa made a deal that in exchange for a quiet, humble life he
wouldn t join anything dealing with politics. Three years later, former president Venustiano Carranza
was assassinated by Obregon s agents. Obregon was a general in the Mexican Revolution, a colleague
of Carranza, and an enemy of Villa. With this assassination, Carranza appointed Obregon to be
President, but Villa ran as well. Obregon knew he had no chance against Villa, so Obregon slayed him.
Although Villa fought and got Mexico a better government, people were against his efforts to be
president and hated the fact that he wiped out a whole family, robbed killed, fought and tortured
people which makes Villa s assassination justified.

Robin Hood Creed Quotes
Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also mainly
known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he leads a group
of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the rich and give the
stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men are all bandits,
they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code that is similar to the
Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that they must defend the
weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle. One knightly code that the
Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an order was given to hang certain
people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every public execution to save each person
before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged are obviously weak and helpless, but the
Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let them die without bothering and risking their
lives to save helpless people that are not important to them. Another example was when Robin ...

General Solicitations And Sell Securities
General Solicitations in Rule 506 D Securities To offer and sell securities in the United States, an
issuer must comply with the registration requirements of the amended Securities Act of 1933, or must
offer and sell the securities pursuant to an exemption from the registration requirements. Rule 506 of
Regulation D is commonly used as a private offering exemption. In 2013 the SEC lifted the ban on
general solicitation or general advertising in specific private offerings of securities. Considered the
final rule , it represents a compromise in many respects. Businesses who wish to raise funds will have
greater opportunities for fulfilling their goal with the lifting of the ban. However, compliance
requirements must also be satisfied in the process. The final rule doesn t apply to all private securities
offerings. Businesses are required to meet numerous requirements such as selling only to accredited
investors, taking logical steps to verify each potential investor is accredited, and follow the other terms
and conditions of a Rule 506 securities offering. For example, issuers should realize that nothing in
the amendments to Rule 506 affect the obligation of the issuer utilizing the safe harbor to make full
and complete disclosure regarding the offering. All items considered material regarding the offering
are still required to be disclosed in writing prior to the sale of securities under the safe harbor,

several instances that have greatly impacted our understanding of the necessity for clear and effective

Core Cooling System Analysis department of Babcock amp; Wilcox (B amp;W), the same company
that designed the nuclear reactor for the Three Mile Island power plant. (Mathes) Short, Sweet, and to

The Key Term Of Continuous Improvement
Key Term
For this discussion board assignment I have chosen to further research the key term of continuous
improvement. My main reason for wanting to do further research into this topic is out of a general
curiosity and interest of mine as well as how it is relevant to my current job. Ever since learning about
the Toyota Production System (TPS) and lean manufacturing a year ago while taking another class at
Liberty University, I have been continuing to learn as much as I can about it. I think that lean
manufacturing is so interesting and has a lot of value for manufacturing as well as many other fields
and even in my daily life. Continuous improvement is a big part of lean manufacturing, so that is why
I chose to write about this topic.
Explanation of Key Term
According to Satterlee (2014), continuous improvement, which is sometimes referred to as Kaizen, is
a management technique that historically involves several incremental improvements to a process
rather than a single overpowering improvement or change (p. 253). Kaizen is a Japanese term for
continuous improvement that came out of TPS, which literally means good change , or improvement.
The big thing behind lean manufacturing and continuous improvement is the elimination of waste
through continuously improving processes. There are commonly seven main wastes consisting of
overproduction, over processing, excess inventory, defects, transportation, wasted motion, and waiting
time, with an eighth waste of unused

  • 2. Genre, Plot, And Theme Of This Play 1) Discuss the genre, plot, and theme of this play. The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending. 2) Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not? I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and sing along at times. The production was very good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers. The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the overall story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors did a very convincing job. The vocals were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The small stage and limited seating at the Virginia Samford Theatre were strengths. The actors were close and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play. 3) Which actors did a convincing job? Describe their technique. I was very impressed with the quality of Birmingham talent. Many of the main ... • 3. The Delivery Of Communication And Differentiated Instruction Although using different teaching strategies is necessary in a differentiated music class, simply using them is not necessarily differentiating instruction. I like to think of strategies as the delivery of communication and differentiated instruction as the specific individual implementation of strategies. For example in a music class, one of my strategies of keeping students engaged is to use simple percussion instruments for developing rhythmic proficiency. The differentiated instruction is provided by taking individual needs into consideration. For example, a student who is easily aurally overloaded, I would hand that student a quieter instrument and/or suggest he/she use body percussion or ask them to sit where they feel comfortable in class relative to the sound being produced. For younger children who are sound sensitive, I would suggest using earplugs or head sets. It is important to remember that using a variety of teaching strategies is not the same as differentiating the instruction. In this case engagement was the overarching strategy and the differentiated instruction was specific to each student while still keeping them engaged. Differentiated Instruction is a student focused way of thinking of teaching and learning. It is important to establish clear and concise guidelines for independent and group work, as well as movement within a classroom. I will also discuss guidelines in general that I would setup for these areas. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three important factors that make up my personal creed include being caring, determined, and respectful. In school and as pharmacist it is vital to carry yourself in a professional manner in the way you dress and speak to best articulate information to patients, colleagues, and other healthcare providers. Learning as much possible in every class and situation will provide a stronger foundation of the material to help understand the circumstance and different patients. Being caring towards patients is important by providing them with the best experience. • 5. Descriptive Essay On Bohttac Garden A long, cement paved path led me to a green well painted gate, which separated the tranquility of the Botanic Gardens, which lay on the east side of the rowdy University of California Riverside Campus. On a mission to learn more about the Gardens and all it has to offer, I scheduled to meet up with Pam Ferre, an Administrative Assistant, who knew a significant amount of information about the Gardens. We agreed to meet up at Schneider House, but as I walked through I lost myself in the beauty that nature here had to offer causing me to lose track of the asphalt road that should have directed me to our meet up destination. The UCR Botanic Gardens is composed of 40 acres, of which thriving plant and animal species call their home. Knowing how enormous the Gardens are, I cell phoned Pam instead of struggling to find my way through the several footpaths. Finally, we gathered at the turtle pond where Pam approached me with a smile, dressed in a flowing white blouse, round black sunglasses, and stylish hiking sandals, an outfit fit for the 100 degree weather. Underneath the canopy of the Sequoia Sempervirens, trees which towered several feet high, we sat on a stone bench. From our point we overlooked a pond in which three medium sized turtles rested on a small log which had fallen from a tree near by. As the birds chirped soothing tunes above us and lizards zigzagged across the dirt path Pam began to tell me about UCR s Botanic Gardens. Well, my first question is for you Pam. ... • 6. The Show, Mad Men, By Roger Sterling Some people believe that the more money a person has, the less satisfied the person is in life. Women s emotions are not affected the same, but some women s emotions are affected differently by dealing with different men with different income compared to other men. The show, Mad Men, takes place in the 1960 s New York, portraying the life of the protagonist, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the Creative Director of Sterling Cooper Agency, an advertising agency owned by Roger Sterling (John Slattery). Don Draper is praised for his work, but many of the employees in the company, like Draper, are filled with arrogance and disrespect that not only the men face, but the women tolerate. The episode Shoot mainly focuses on how Don does not want his wife, Betty Draper (January Jones), to model again, on how the agency is trying to figure out how to stop John F. Kennedy s campaign on the air, and how Don is trying to figure out to leave Sterling Cooper Agency and work for McCann Erikson Firm, a different advertising agency. Throughout the episode, many can notice the men degrading and utilizing the women in the episode by making rude, sexual remarks towards the women or competing to be better than the women. Betty symbolizes a married woman who becomes more dependent as her husband becomes more successful. Betty s expectation to be a dutiful, nurturing mother is displayed in her mother daughter relationship. This episode s depiction of working, single women indicates that single women are ... • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Egoism Egoism is the theory that one ought to do what is in one s self interest. One is to maximize their own self interest and potential. One cannot prosper if they contain their own interests and needs in order to satisfy the interests of others. Once morality is obtained by one protecting their personal interests and content with it, then they are able to satisfy the interests of others. Egoism is similar to that anything that would aid in survival is good and anything that hampers survival is evil. There are two types of egoism, psychological or descriptive egoism and ethical or normative egoism. Psychological egoism is that humans are only driven by self interest. For example if one were to help another human being, the sole reason is because the individual directly or indirectly benefits from this experience. Ethical egoism is that it is significant and acceptable for an action to be morally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Hobbes argues that egoism is valid through a sense of morality and that an individual will end up being altruistic through his views of egoism. Ayn Rand another famous philosopher states that one can only be either altruistic or egoistic. One cannot be both. Ayn Rand believes an individual has value and that the only philosophy that states that an individual has self worth is egoism. Ethical egoism is often based off the fact that psychological egoism is true and this entails that we always act egotistically and cannot prevent ourselves from acting this way. An example of this would be if one were to donate to a charity that helps little kids. In terms of psychological egoism the individual didn t donate money to the charity to help kids, that would altruistic, one did it because one wanted to. Another reason to why ... Religious Conflict in Russia RELIGIOUS CONFLICT IN RUSSIA One of the great ironies of history is that Marxism, an atheistic theory, was first implemented in Russia—a land inhabited by millions of believers practicing most of the world s great religions. In fact, religion is so integral to the culture and history of Russia, it would be impossible to gain a full understanding for the unique character of the country and its people without a careful examination of the religious factors at play throughout its history. As a result, there are more than 100 languages spoken throughout the nation, most tied to the particular ethnic groups from which they sprang. Economics and Education Perhaps the most significant impact of the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 has been the economic chaos which subsequently consumed the country. For five years following the collapse, Russia saw its comparatively developed centrally planned economy contract severely. It was not until 1997 that Russia began to show signs of recovery as a result of its new open market policies. Since that time, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country has grown by an average of 6.7 percent per year, largely on the back of oil exports, as well as a steadily developing service and industrial output. Currently, Russia s GDP by purchasing power parity (PPP) is approximately $1.5 trillion, making it the ninth largest economy in the world and the fifth largest in Europe. • 13. Frederick Douglass And Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels Both authors Frederick Douglass and Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels focus on the topic of freedom. Both authors argue that they are being oppressed. However, this is where the similarities end. Engels and Marx believed that capitalism was a social system used by the proletariats to oppress the bourgeoisie, and that the only way to be free was to fight back against the system. On the other hand, Frederick Douglass focuses more on his individual story and his struggle for freedom, while he tries to appeal to his audience from an ethical point of view. Frederick Douglass biography revolves around the idea of freedom. After seeing a traumatizing incident as a child, Douglass slowly begins to realize that he is not a free human being, but is a slave owned by other people. He is surrounded by a society that devalues him and people like him, and systematically worked to keep them ignorant and submissive. In this society, it is made clear that no slave is special, and everyone is replaceable. Rather than accept this, Douglass struggles to maintain what little autonomy he was allowed to have. When his one of his masters, Thomas Auld, bans his mistress, Sophia, from teaching Douglass how to read, Douglass learned from the young boys on the street. His biography shows him transforming from an ignorant child into his older, more learned self. Douglass sees the idea of slaves in a country that is as passionate as about its revolution as America hypocritical; in fact, this is the basis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Scenarios Of Consumer s Futures 2020 By 2020, the world could develop into a myriad of different scenarios, but there is no one scenario that can accurately represent what the US, let alone the world, will become even in four short years. The four scenarios in Consumer s Futures 2020 has options that could unfold, but it is unlikely in such a short timeframe. Nevertheless, the most likely of the four presented scenarios to me is sell it to me. This is because the scenario allows people to keep spending and minimizes the work individuals have to put into becoming more sustainable. It also marks a more prosperous, flourishing economy that enables the option to buy more selectively the brands and products that intrigue them. Lastly, this scenario utilizes the technology that we are already hyper reliant on to generate more personalized business. Many of these aspects are already occurring to some degree, but I can see them becoming more prominent over time. The market is currently well on the mend, with unemployment rates decreasing and overall incomes increasing; I disagree with the scenario as, contrary to scenario 3, awareness of income inequality is more mainstream and being combated. With this increasing upward mobility, consumers want to buy more and more, as many US citizens mark their prosperity on how much you can buy. Already emerging is the demand for organic foods to be sold in conventional grocery stores. People also spend a little extra to buy brands that give them the perception of wealth like ... For instance, it is often said at tax time that the Federal budget is balanced on the backs of the middle class. To people in the lower class, the promise is held that in a capitalist society, by working hard you can lift yourself out of the lower income bracket to join the middle class. Entrepreneurs who can find a need and fill it can make it into the upper class. The point is that this kind of thinking, a product of social stratification theory, is ingrained upon our minds. An example of a social stratification model can be made of the Feudal System, with a dominant nobility (betters). Barons were at the upper strata, higher than the knights, who were at a lower strata. The subjected masses (lessers) were serfs and peasants; undoubtedly some were more clever and successful than others who occupied a lower strata. Another model would be the current United States, where the social strata starts with the upper upper class, the upper class, the upper middle class, and so on down to the poor, or lower lower class. In highly detailed social stratification models, trends and analyses are very complex. An excellent example of this is The Process of Stratification: Trends and Analyses by Robert Hauser and David Featherman. The many pages of tables and detailed analysis are exceedingly difficult to comprehend, which makes them difficult to use. A model of social stratification is a snapshot in time which details the society as it exists at that time. This quote does not only reflect children as they mirror their parents, but also how a society mirrors its government. As a child grows, he or she is taught to act a certain way through reinforcements given by the parents. Reinforcements can be either positive or negative. If a parent does not like the act of burping and believes it is improper, he or she may stop a child burping for the purpose of making the child act like them, the parent might say no burping inside the house in a very strict manner. Similar to a government, a government will make rules to help make society be more like the government. For example, the constitution is full of laws to which we as a society are supposed to follow. As many may discover, later in life, Christopher Columbus can be considered to be the head of a mass genocide. Victoria Chase states, Carpentier combines an Old World perspective, formed by tradition, expectation and necessity, with a decidedly New World sense of its origin and history (Chase 28). This paper will examine despite what Christopher Columbus was famed to be, he is demythologized by Alejo Carpentier s novel when the true side of Columbus is exposed. Alejo Carpentier writes this new historical novel for a reason: These novels have as a unique feature: their closeness to the events described in the chronicles of the Indies. It has been their purpose to preserve what was already told thru conquest documents, yet making subtle variations to reinforce their agendas (Atia 42). Many point out that Carpentier wrote this novel because of his political visions of the time, His writings were by and a large notable critique of bourgeois society and Western civilization. • 31. Working Rights In The Late 1800s And Early 1900s The working conditions and working rights in the late 1800s and early 1900s were lacking and required some help to make more humane. Before any of the laws that helped reform our nation, working in mines or factories was dangerous and not worth the effort. Secondly, the hours were unethical, as workers sometimes had to toil away for 12 hours, seven days a week with a one day break every two weeks. Workers who were fighting for their rights were not alone, as there were some people who also believed morality was more important at the moment. The changes made were for the better and made the world of hard labor a better place. Thankfully, these rules were not ever taken away and people now live to know that they will earn the money and rights that they deserve. A miner from the 1800s had to work hard for little bits of money. One specific miner went to a school with his three brothers, although it was not a good school since schools back then were not the best, until he was twelve, when he went to pick slate. There were five kids that worked there, one of which was crushed by 50 tons of rock one week before he was to get married. There were many risks in mining, like falling rock, miner s asthma, powder, smoke, poisonous gases, and bad air. Miners were living unfair lives and that was fixed well (Doc 1). In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt helped the lives of mine workers by decreasing the time for miners to work from 12 hours to 9. Roosevelt also gave workers a wage increase, ... • 34. Relationships Among Bim, Ipd, And Lean Construction Relationships among BIM, IPD, and Lean Construction In general, IPD, Lean, or BIM is a particularly new controversial phenomenon in the construction industry that generates many debates and discussions around each component s advantages and disadvantages, effectiveness, and potential risks (Guerra, 2010). As BIM s complementary connection to IPD, there are numerous questions regarding requirements of using BIM in IPD based projects. Like BIM IPD considerations, is Lean construction really necessary for every IPD related project or only enforced by the project team favor? Interestingly, many construction professionals question that whether or not IPD can implement without the use of BIM as well as Lean principles. One step at a time, these inquiries are still exploring by experts and analysts whereas attempting efforts of combining those three elements in construction projects are currently promoted as dominant worldwide tendencies. Thus, interdependent corporations of ILB need to be carefully evaluated in order to flawlessly synergy them in real world cases. Specific partnerships for each combination of two factors will be subsequently revealed and examined in next section. • 35. Restorative Justice Model And Domestic Violence Introduction Beginning in the late 1960 s there began a shift in societal values from punishment of criminal behavior towards addressing the needs of the victims of crime. The questions being asked shifted from what law was broken to who was hurt. (Calhoun, 2013) It can be said that even today there still appears some controversy over the effectiveness and place of restorative justice however it has begun to infiltrate legislation. In Kansas K.S.A. 21 5414 (Domestic Battery) recently passed the requirement that all domestic violence offenders are required to undergo assessment and treatment from a certified batterers intervention program; a form of restorative justice. With this in mind the focus of subsequent discussion will be around defining terminology in restorative justice and domestic violence, effectiveness and implications, use in social work case management, and potential improvements to be made. Description of Restorative Justice Model and Domestic Violence Offenders One of the major roots founded in the core of restorative justice is the connection, no matter how damaging, that links a victim to their offender. There is forever a connection developed between the victim and offender despite the lack of a previous knowledge of each other. • 37. Robin Hood Creed Quotes Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also mainly known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he leads a group of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the rich and give the stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men are all bandits, they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code that is similar to the Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that they must defend the weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle. One knightly code that the Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an order was given to hang certain people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every public execution to save each person before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged are obviously weak and helpless, but the Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let them die without bothering and risking their lives to save helpless people that are not important to them. Another example was when Robin ... • 43. General Solicitations And Sell Securities General Solicitations in Rule 506 D Securities To offer and sell securities in the United States, an issuer must comply with the registration requirements of the amended Securities Act of 1933, or must offer and sell the securities pursuant to an exemption from the registration requirements. Rule 506 of Regulation D is commonly used as a private offering exemption. In 2013 the SEC lifted the ban on general solicitation or general advertising in specific private offerings of securities. Considered the final rule , it represents a compromise in many respects. Businesses who wish to raise funds will have greater opportunities for fulfilling their goal with the lifting of the ban. However, compliance requirements must also be satisfied in the process. The final rule doesn t apply to all private securities offerings. Businesses are required to meet numerous requirements such as selling only to accredited investors, taking logical steps to verify each potential investor is accredited, and follow the other terms and conditions of a Rule 506 securities offering. For example, issuers should realize that nothing in the amendments to Rule 506 affect the obligation of the issuer utilizing the safe harbor to make full and complete disclosure regarding the offering. All items considered material regarding the offering are still required to be disclosed in writing prior to the sale of securities under the safe harbor, regardless of whether general solicitation or general advertising is ... Few, however, have had such eye opening impact that they continue to be discussed decades after their occurrence. Dunn is the manager of the Emergency Core Cooling System Analysis department of Babcock amp; Wilcox (B amp;W), the same company that designed the nuclear reactor for the Three Mile Island power plant. • 45. The Key Term Of Continuous Improvement Key Term For this discussion board assignment I have chosen to further research the key term of continuous improvement. My main reason for wanting to do further research into this topic is out of a general curiosity and interest of mine as well as how it is relevant to my current job. Ever since learning about the Toyota Production System (TPS) and lean manufacturing a year ago while taking another class at Liberty University, I have been continuing to learn as much as I can about it. I think that lean manufacturing is so interesting and has a lot of value for manufacturing as well as many other fields and even in my daily life. Continuous improvement is a big part of lean manufacturing, so that is why I chose to write about this topic. Explanation of Key Term According to Satterlee (2014), continuous improvement, which is sometimes referred to as Kaizen, is a management technique that historically involves several incremental improvements to a process rather than a single overpowering improvement or change (p. 253). Kaizen is a Japanese term for continuous improvement that came out of TPS, which literally means good change , or improvement. The big thing behind lean manufacturing and continuous improvement is the elimination of waste through continuously improving processes. There are commonly seven main wastes consisting of overproduction, over processing, excess inventory, defects, transportation, wasted motion, and waiting time, with an eighth waste of unused ...
