My Thoughts About Sexual Identity
When asked to write a candid and self revealing journal about my experiences, thoughts, feelings
and beliefs related to human sexuality, I became intrigued. Throughout my early life, my own
sexuality has been something of considerable focus because I knew that I was different than the
average boy. Later, I discovered this difference was called being gay, homosexual, a faggot, or
queer. I remember these names stinging just a bit because I did not want to be different than other
boys, I just wanted to be accepted and close to other boys. Consequently, my identity orbited around
numerous fears, thoughts, and reactions by others and me to how I subsisted as a person because
of what I discovered about myself during my journey through childhood,... Show more content on

Moreover, I learned that my sexuality was natural and healthy until the AIDS crisis in the
eighties. The crisis around HIV/AIDS generated numerous myths which may or may not have
been considered sexual, but the most devastating was the revision of the myth that God hated
fags. This was proven to mainstream society because God was punishing gay men with AIDS
and causing us to suffer for our sin of loving. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was
wrapped up in politics, religious proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself
in a community of gay people that I truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and
damaging to my well being. Identify when you were first aware of yourself as a sexual being.
How/when did that come about? The bombast of politics and religion was not in my world view
when I first discovered that I stood as a sexual being. When I was in kindergarten, I became
aware that something was driving me (a feeling) toward physical contact with another person
even though they were male or female. Did I know what sex was at that time? I am not sure. My
parents were brought up in the generation of free love and were extraordinarily sexually open
around me as far back as I could remember. I knew physical contact

Second Amendment Research Paper
Ratified December 15, 1791, the bill of rights was added to the U.S. Constitution as a way to
ensure the protection of every individual s rights. The bill itself is a list of rights which limits the
power of the federal government and gives power back to the people in the form of rights and
liberties. Some of this rights include freedom of speech, religion, and press, but perhaps the one
right that still to this day has many people questioning the meaning behind its wording is the
Second Amendment. The Second Amendment states that a well regulated militia, being necessary
to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed
(Acosta, 2008). In short the amendment grants the right to bear arms,... Show more content on

Law abiding citizens would actually turn in their weapons while criminals would not and like
many anti gun control supporters say, it would only put the rest of us in danger. But giving
everyone weapons just in case we are to ever need them is not the answer either. In recent years,
gun violence has increased not just out in the streets, but sadly enough this increase has been
transferring to schools nationwide. Just in these past 10 months, there have been 52 school
shootings and since the Sandy Hook massacre there has been 152 shooting, all ranging from pre
school level to college. And the grand majority of these shooters have been reported to have some
sort of mental illness though the percentage of those shooters with actual mental illness are

A Sorrowful Woman By Gail Godwin Essay
A Sorrowful Woman
While reading many kinds of literature about women s rights and suffrages. One of them is call
The Sorrowful Woman . The story is a mournful story presenting the readers the heart of a woman
sometimes in the 1970s. The author who wrote the story named Gail Godwin portrays a woman
character in a way that shows us how women feel towards marriage and motherhood. The story
sets in a home in which the typical mother has to take care of her house, husband, and child. She
has to cook, do the laundry, and all the house chores that society tells women to do. However, one
day she had quit her duties as a mother and wife, which shows the readers how it affects her
family and herself. As I read the story about this sorrowful woman, I feel that the woman in the
story is mentally ill and is a weak selfish character who only pities herself.
The author describes the woman s husband as being durable, receptive, and gentle. She also has
a son whom the author describes as a golden tender three (Godwin 38). However, despite having
a wonderful husband and a sweet child; she becomes sick of seeing them every day, and isolate
herself as the story goes on. The reason for her isolation could be related to how women lived
back near the 1970s. Many women in the 1970s were mothers who stayed at home to take care of
their husband and children. I believe the author wanted to portray the woman in a way that shows
how many women probably felt back in the 1970s, but were too

Health Care Elixir Summary
Within the article, America s Health Care Elixir, the author discusses all the various ways
Medicare and Medicaid have evolved and positively changed health care over the years
(Leonard, 2015). Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law in 1965, and since then they both
have created better care and allowed low income individuals and aging adults to receive needed
medical care. The number of individuals a part of Medicaid has increased from 19 million to 56
million over the years. In addition, the use of Medicaid has increased by providing health care to
70 million low income individuals (Leonard, 2015). The use of these two programs has allowed
the life expectancy of our population to increase by 5 years, signaling that the care provided is
effective (Leonard, 2015). Further, these two programs have removed racial segregation from
hospitals and various health facilities, by allowing a greater amount of individuals to... Show more

In addition, Medicare is allowing the trend of home health agencies and technology to take over
the need of nursing homes. Medicare only covers short term stays in nursing homes, and they
are pushing for older adults to age in place and stay within their homes (Leonard, 2015). This
alternative allows for seniors to receive medical care, as well as social services in the comfort of
their own home. On another note, Medicaid and Medicare have accounted for more health care
spending. As baby boomers age, health care spending will continue to excel. Policymakers have
been working to find solutions to this issue, while still delivering high quality care. Baby boomers
have smaller families or no children, which means they will need care from an outside source.
Currently, the Affordable Care Act is finding solutions to improve their quality and lower their
costs. In doing so, they have created the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Leonard,

causes the most number of deaths in both men and women in 2013 (Shepard, VanderZan den,
Moran, Naghavi, Murray, Roth, 2015). Therefore, because IHD can lead to other com plications, it
can further result in greater cost to the economy. Clearly, there is an increasing need to eliminate
the incidence of IHDs in the economy and reduce its impact by setting key priorities in place that
targets primary disease prevention measures. In addition, there is a need to address the social
determinants of health that can maximize a supportive environment to en able individuals

Likewise, neonatal mortality rate is much higher Nicaragua at 9.1 per 1,000 birth whereas in
Canada the number is 3.2 (WHO, 2017). An addi tional fact is that the lack of proper nutrition as
a result of poverty is stunting the growth of young children in Nicaragua (WHO, 2017). Not
surprising, the number children under 5 years who are stunted is 25.2 (WHO, 2017).Hence,
strategies need to be deployed towards reducing poverty and inequalities in Nicaragua.
Recommendations A further recommendation would be to address the sustainable development
goals #1(zero poverty), 2 (no hunger) 3 (good health and well being) while addressing the
impacts of the social determinants of health on the issue ischemic heart disease. Consequently,
using upstream measures that targets the grass root cause of IHD is the best approach to
reducing the global burden of IHD worldwide. Since dietary choices are not just behavioural in
nature but can also be caused by social, economic and political factors. Thus, global health nurses
can en gage in collaborative, interdisciplinary, intersectoral and community partnerships to foster
par ticipation for the reduction of all risk factors for the development of ischemic heart diseases in
Nicaragua. Likewise, global health nurses must work to address complex social, political, and
economic barriers to good health and wellbeing in relation to IHDs in order to build healthy global
societies. To this end, global health nurses must advocate for the

The Problem Of Self State
Conscious state according to dictionary.com is being aware of one s own existence these may
involve thoughts, sensations (images, aches, pain, visual, auditory and tactual sensation etc.).
Smart refuses to admit to the fact that sensations are irreducibly psychical because of Occam s
razor (which suggests that such matters should not even be put into consideration). He affirms
there is no philosophical argument that compels us to be dualist, he writes I am in pain is a
genuine report, and that what it reports is an irreducibly psychical something (Adler and Elgin
384). From this context he believes that by claiming one is in pain one is reporting something,
which is over and above, (something unexplainable beyond the human... Show more content on

we should also involve conscious state as well. He thinks of sensations as dispositions towards a
certain types of stimulus/temptation. He reduced behaviours to dispositions and he classified them
as being brain processes an example he gives an example of New Zealanders and the English who
both refer to Venus when one group refers to it as Morning Star and the other as Evening Star his
aims is to show that sensations may be similar but with different physical phenomenon. For
example two people may be identical in their appearances but might have different properties. The
question might be asked, that even if sensations are identical with brain processes, are there not
introspected non physical properties of sensations that are not identical with properties of brain
processes? (Identity theory) . To dispel this thought smart adopts topic neutral a narrower sense of
being neutral to dualism and physicalism (Identity theory). If sensations are caused by physical
/material things for example light the question based on this belief is whether sensations are
material or immaterial from the given example above (Identity theory). Putnam admits to a lot of
claims made by Smart, they both share similar views on identifying pain and other mental states
with brain processes. Putman begins by disagreeing with philosophers who maintain that pain states
are brain states, and he calls this claim unintelligible. He goes

Compare And Contrasting Fama s Articles
Comparing and contrasting Fama s articles (1971, 1990), this work will critically assess the
development of EMH during the 1970 to 1991 period. Firstly, it provides the reader to a short
introduction to the EMH and to comparison the major changes between two articles. Thereafter,
the main focus will be concentrated on second article and its critical evaluation of results
obtained. The main purpose of the capital market is to provide the investors with accurate signals
for resource allocation. It is possible when market security prices do fully reflect available
information providing the opportunity to make production investment decisions. Such markets are
also called the efficient . A precondition for this is that information and trading costs equal to 0.
Moreover, the joint hypothesis problem is the main obstacle about market efficiency because it
must be tested jointly with some asset pricing models. In article of 1971, Fama categorised
market efficiency into three main forms. Weak form is based on the historical data of the stock
prices. The semi strong form tests how efficiently prices adapt to the publically available
information. The third form is concerned whether any given market participants having
monopolistic access to the creation of the stock prices. Final Draft Return Predictability: In short,
the new work rejects the old constant expected returns model that seems to perform well in the
early work. It is rejected due to such findings as

Concert Review Essay
I would first like to start this concert review off stating that I do not know really anything about
how to play and write music, and all the aspects of getting the melody and harmony right in the
music. What might be simple and have a good steadiness throughout the music to me might be
elabrate and unsteady to the performer. When I listen to music, I do listen to the music itself but I
am more likely to relate to the lyrics so that is my main focus. So for this review, my insight on
how the music is may not be that accurate. This concert review is about Bill Miller concert. I
thought he was a great musician with a pretty good voice. He is very down to Earth not only just
talking but through his lyrics. Within the lyrics, I could hear his Native American ancestry come
alive. He played some Native American songs on what I call a Native American flute and
something similar to a claranet. Then he did some original songs with the acustic guitar and a
cover song which I will be reviewing. He first play an original song called Chasing... Show more

strong do to the emotion behind it. As he played you can see and hear his heart behind it. He
played as some poeple would say as if he was rocking it which his was. He also sang lounder then
he did with the other song which projects more emotion and heart behind it. My personal opinion
on this song it that it is beautiful on how he puts his greving from the loss of his son and his

How Peer Pressure Is An Act That Should Not Be Taken...
Fitting in with the Ultimate Sacrifice Peer pressure is an act that should not be taken lightly
because it can lead to many bad decision making and psychological damage. Bullying, alcohol
drug abuse, sex, and the desire to fit in are a few leading factors of peer pressure. As one begins
elementary or high school, they are trying to figure out their individuality and form into their
mold of themselves. Dealing with peer pressure as a young child or teenager opens the door to
stress, anxiety, or even depression. These are a few personality dysfunctions that over time may
destroy ones social skills and could possibly cripple the child from living a life of trust and
friendship. There are other ways of peer pressure that can lead into the harmful actions of oneself
that will be identified later with the statistics and data from different articles. First, bullyinghas
formed from not only in the halls of ones schools, but now follows them home by social media
by the click of a button. In the article of The Role of Classroom Peer Ecology and Bystanders
Responses in Bullying in The Functions of Bullying and Peer Group paragraph it states the
following: According to this perspective, bullying often results when the bully exerts normative
social influence that is exacerbated by the bully s popularity and by peers fears of becoming next
victims . Moreover, based on this fact, one could see that a bully performs out of wanting to show

The Chinese people s progression with stone and pottery developed drastically in the Qin Dynasty.
The Qin Dynasty followed the Zhou Dynasty and it was during this period that the Great Wall of
China was established. The ruler Qin Shihuangdi is credited with building the Great Wall of
China by uniting several preexisting defensive walls (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2015).
These pre existing walls were less significant clay walls built by individually established towns
near to the border. Some sources state that the wall was for defensive purposes but some also
say that the Great Wall speaks well for a growth in the mixed soil of peace and war. It stands for
some power, an unbeatable power despite all bitter conditions, known as the Great Wall Spirit
among Chinese people (Great Wall Web Site, 2015), meaning that the wall didn t just represent
defence, but it was a much more beautiful and well composed symbol of peace for the Chinese
people. The wall was also a landmark for the architecture of the period. The same ruler is
responsible for the creation of the Terracotta Army , its construction occurred as the ruler desired a
tomb guarded by an army. The army consisted of over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and
even weapons (TravelChinaGuide, 2015).

Analysis Of Gaius Suetonius TranquitusDe Vita Caesartus

The Twelve Caesars which essentially changed the way in which history was written. For many,
they believe that Suetonius De Vita Caesarum established a new framework, an original genre of
historical biography unseen before which consequently made a significant contribution to historical
scholarship. This review will look in particular at the aspects of Suetonius style of writing seen in
the first chapter, which focuses on Julius Caesar, and also how specific writing techniques used by
Suetonius inspired other authors in the future. Although there are some faults to his work,

Suetonius evocative storytelling uses another technique which gives the reader an insight into the
past, the author paints a portrait of a landscape, where glimmers of intimate daily life enables a
personal connection to another place and time. Through this, if we can begin to understand Julius
Caesar, we understand the beginning of imperial Rome and in its entirety this book becomes an in
depth source for understanding the history of the Roman Empire. In Suetonius chapter on the life
of Julius Caesar it is clear the motivation behind the use of foreshadowing and the importance of
predicting future events using signs from celestial portents, and especially from God, as this
intrigues the reader to continue. A certain passage of Suetonius s writing epitomises the
captivating nature of his work, where he foreshadows the death of Julius Caesar using signs and

The Rise Of The Roman Revolution
Ancient Rome is filled with stories of sabotage, betrayal, and revenge. These events are the direct
result of a conspiracy that sparks political debate even today. One of the more controversial events
occurred a relatively short time before Caesar s rule and when of the Roman Republic when
Senators were brutal in their methods of winning elections. The Roman election of 63 B.C.E. had
become the foundation for the conspiracy against a Roman senator Ciceroby another Roman senator
popularly known as Catiline. Ultimately, Catiline s plan had been unveiled and despite trying to

Catiline s dark past included the aspirations for being a ruler with his agenda inspired by his
criminal tendencies. His plan was simple, about the measures he adopted, he felt no solicitude; to
be the tyrant of his country by any means . His nature was later also pointed out by Cicero who
used this point against Catiline.
The elections of 63 B.C. would further Catiline s plot to overthrow the Roman Government. His
intentions were made clear when he spoke to his friends. When he met with them, he spoke of
their liberty and power in government. Such is the case when he mentions, for fine a few great
ones have got the power into their hands, they have had always Kings and Tetrarchs and
Tributaries; Nations and Provinces have paid them a private revenue: all we have fellows, noble
and ignoble, have been a despicable mob in their eyes, without favor, without authority, obnoxious
to them, to whom, if the administration had run in the true channel, we ought to have been a terror
. This shows Catiline s far reaching political aspirations and keen interest in running for public
offices of the republic. We notice that Catiline continues on his destructive path mentioning that
should the government be on the correct path, they would be a force to be reckoned with. Catiline
s friends who were likely also Senators as well helped him in his efforts to push the conspiracy

my option is cognitivism or cognitive psychology and social influences. To begin with, let s start
with cognitivism. Cognitivism is the framework for understanding behavior. In this school of

Lab Report 1
Abstract
The objective of this lab was to observe prepared bacterial cells and to observe and describe the
primary features of eukaryotic cells. Also, we investigated the effect of concentration gradient and
temperature on the rate of osmosis in an artificial system. Finally, we investigated the effect of
solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea. The purpose of our
experiments was to find out whether the effect of concentration gradient on the rate of osmosis
had a greater effect than temperature on the rate of osmosis. The purpose of the Elodea experiment
was to see if a five percent solution of sodium chloride or distilled water effected the structure of
the Elodea.
To observe the primary features of a eukaryotic cell we used a compound microscope. We tested
the effect concentration gradients had on the rate of osmosis two ways: with potato tissue and
with dialysis tubes. We used potato slices, paper towels, bowls, sodium chloride (at different
concentration levels), and a scale to test potato tissue. We used dialysis tubing, sucrose solution
(10% and 40% concentration gradients), plastic clips, bags, distilled water, and a scale to test the
rate of osmosis with dialysis tubes. To test the solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant
tissue and Elodea, we used Elodea, water, sodium chloride solution, tap water, a coverslip, and

The Importance Of Food Waste
Through the innovation of technology, mankind has been able to create great, and extraordinary
feats of nature. Taking the smallest indesirable object, then constructing it into a skyscraper or the
smallest most powerful computer. Also through the process of innovation we humans have almost
completely mastered the art of mass manufacturing products making our daily needs and wants
readily available to us. The foodindustry is a one of many examples of this mass manufacturing
evolution, going from food being made over camp fires to being made in huge factory pumping out
fathoming quantities of product. With this evolution comes the downfall of waste. Food waste is not
always avoidable but in some cases the waste is necessary as some things are not safe for
consumption after undergoing certain processes. But no matter the waste product some form of
use should be found for the seemingly invaluable waste product or a way to reduce unnecessary
food waste. Food waste is a huge problem most americans are completely oblivious too. According
to a United states department of Agriculturereport, 133 billion pounds of food went unused in
2010. While animal products like meat and dairy being towards the top of the list, added up to
$105 billion of wasted food.( Waste Not, Want not 26) While worldwide about one third of all
food produced is either lost or gone to waste which adds up to about 1.3 Billion tons of waste. To
put into a better prospective 1.3 billion tons is

Alexander IIi Of Macedonia Truly Worthy Of The Title Essay
Was Alexander III of Macedonia really worthy of the title Great or was he just a megalomaniac
conditioned into this belief by his followers? Well, if you consider his military legacy which is
almost as large as the swath of territory he conquered spanning from modern day Greece to
northern India, or the fact that his over 2,000 year old combat tactics are still being taught at
military academies the world over, I don t believe the word great would be too far from
imagination. When Alexander rose to power following the death of his father, Phillip II, his
kingdom of Macedonia encompassed all of the land that we know as modern Greece. For
Alexander this was not enough. Phillip II is believed to have prophesized s his son s ambitions
with the words, My son you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambition. Macedon is too
small for you. after Alexander tamed his wild buck Bucephalas at age 10. Born around July
20th, 356 BC to King Phillip II and one of his favorite wives, Olympias, Alexander was believed
to be destined for greatness from the start. Many tall tales about his birth origin circulated
throughout and after his life including his personal claim of descent from Achilles and Zeus. After
enjoying a leisurely life as the child of a noble family, he began his tutelage under Aristotle at the
age of 13. His father, Phillip II was frequently absent from Macedonia on long conquest campaigns
that eventually unified most of the Greek cities under his rule. In his

General Information on Seeds
Seed Structure includes:
The embryo is a young sporophyte, tiny plant before it develops from the seed. (http:/

A seed coat is the protective outer layer of a seed, which keeps the embryo from being damaged as

The endosperm is a temporary food supply that is used by the embryo to help with its growth. The

Essay about E-mail and Public Discourse
E mail doesn t just collapse distance, it demolishes all boundaries (Leonard 233). The author of
We ve Got Mail Always explains that e mail can be either a blessing or a curse (Leonard 233).
Does e mail have positive or negative impact on personal and public discourse? Many people may
say that it affects discourse negatively. Most people, however, agree that e mail is a very common,
cheap and quick form of communication which enables them to fulfill their social need of
interaction. People at different age and different education or social level have their own e mail
accounts and they communicate with others electronically way very often. E mail has positive

in Schwartz 237). Before sending an e mail, a person can always review and rewrite it, thus
positively changing personal and public discourse.
Furthermore, e mail has positive impact on public discourse in that people can develop themselves
by communicating with other people. Newsgroups, another function of the internet, is able create
a community. People gathering in front of their computer and writing messages about a particular
subject exchange their knowledge and experience. If you have something to say about that topic,
you e mail your comment to a central computer, which then forwards it to everyone else on the
list. If they have something to add, they can either respond to you privately or send another
message back to the central computer (Parsons 250). Some people want to share what they know;
others want to learn about something or both just want to express their feelings and thoughts.
These communities are just like others. Parsons says, We grieved for a friend we d lost and knew
that our little community had been changed forever (253). E mail is also a very common form of
communication among coworkers. Leonard mentions For decades, programmers have used e mail
to collaborate on projects. With increasing frequency, this collaboration is accruing across company
lines, and often without even the spur of commercial incentives. (233). Such collaboration improves

Private Student Loan Refinancing Case Study
American students today owe over $1.45 trillion in outstanding student loans and interest rates are
near historical lows. As a result, a host of new companies have sprung up over the last few years
offering student loan refinancing. Private lenders like Earnest, CommonBond, and the market
leader, SoFi, all pitch the benefits of refinancing at lower market based interestrates. Their TV ads
show happy millennial professionals saving over $20,000 by refinancing.
It sounds amazing, doesn t it?
But the truth is less promising. In fact, starting this year the entire business model of private student
loan refinancing may prove to be less viable.
There are two primary reasons for this. First, only a tiny percentage of all student loan borrowers
can reap significant savings from private loan refinancing. The vast majority of borrowers either
don t qualify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students who have borrowed $100,000 or more often have done so to attain postgraduate or
professional degrees. Consumer finance site NerdWallet indicates that the average approved
borrower at SoFi has an annual income of $130,000 and an average credit score of 766. From this
we can infer what kind of borrowers fit SoFi s profile: lawyers, doctors, MBAs, and other
professionals who are high earners.
It turns out that private lenders are targeting a very small slice of student loan borrowers. To put
things in perspective, as of September 2017, only 6.9% of all working professionals make $130,000
or more per year.
But what about the average student loan borrower? Going back to the calculator, an undergraduate
degree borrower with $30,000 in loans who refinances from 6% to 4.5% would only save $22 a
month.
In 2013, the government changed the way it set interest rates for federal student loans. It started
indexing student loan rates to the 10 year U.S. Treasury note. Current year Stafford loans have a

Why Should Kids Become Adults At 18
Why should kids become adults at 18?
Well at that age they are starting to make the choices of an adult, so the should be known as one.
we should be known as an adult at this age because we can make the decisions of an adult. We are

At 18 we are showing that we are mature enough to make the decisions of an adult. Julie Beck

shown that we can be mature adults at 18. This paragraph proves my point on the FACT that we
are mature enough at 18 to become an adult. 18 is definitely old enough to vote. At 18 we start
paying more attention to the world around us, including politics. We should be able to vote at 18.

Analyzing Some of Anna Akhmatova s Poetry
Unassuming Exuberance
Anna Akhmatova lived from 1889 to 1966 during a dark, rough time in Russia. Everything is
Plundered, I Am Not One of Those Who Left the Land, and Midnight Verses are prime examples
of Akhmatova s symbolic literature. Akhmatova used poetry to help her overcome difficulties in
life; it was a way of expressing and setting her feelings free. All of Anna Akhmatovas poems
contain a common theme that connects to her real life: though life can be rough, it is important to
deal with problems and work towards acceptance. In Midnight Verses, the theme is dark and
tumultuous. This poem is a perfect reflection of Akhmatova s life. She faced many complications in
life, but she had to accept them because she did not want to give up on her home country. Likewise,
Akhmatova s poem has an unwilling acceptance at the end. Midnight Verses also displays her
thoughts in a very creative way. And the signal bells of light rhymes / Then I begin to understand
/ And the simply dictated lines / Lie down in the snow white notebook (Akhmatova 13 16).
Throughout Midnight Verses, Akhmatova uses powerful imagery, making it easy to relate to her
thoughts. Everything is Plundered is another of Akhmatova s poems that continues to illustrate this
theme. In Everything is Plundered, the theme of confusion and contrast in life is present. The
struggles in life are portrayed throughout the poem. This poem reflects humanity s imperfect

What Happens When A Soccer Ball Bounces
1.0Background Theory
1.1Introduction
This investigation aims to determine the relationship between air pressure and the bounce height
of the ball, and what material (material of a basketball, volleyball and soccer ball) is best suited for
a ball in order for it to achieve its greatest bounce height.
1.2Research Questions
1.How does the air pressure inside a ball influence the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball?
2.How does the material of a ball affect the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball?
1.3Theory
1.31 Air Pressure
Air pressure can be defined as the force applied by air molecules on the surfaces in and around an
object, and is measured in Pascals one Newton per square metre (Pa) or pounds per square inch

The velocity of the ball increases in the opposite direction as it has started to rebound from the
ground with acceleration still pointing up (see Figure 5). This also means that the elastic potential
energy is transferring into kinetic energy, although the kinetic energy will be less than previous
because some of the energy has been lost to generate heat and sound when the ball lands and
deforms. Due to the loss in energy, the ball will not return to its original drop height and creates a
bounce height.
Figure 5: Stage 5 (Real World Physics Problems, 2016)
6.The ball is now just touching the surface so it has returned to its original shape so all the
elastic potential energy has been transferred back into kinetic energy again (see Figure 6). The
only force acting on the ball now is gravity, so the acceleration has changed back to its original
direction and its velocity is decreasing.

African American s experience with cancer treatment is different than other ethnicities in the
treatments they choose and how the treatments ultimately work. Although breast conserving
surgery rates have increased among African American women, they still lag behind utilization
rates of white women (Shaver, Brown 339) Although black women choosing mastectomy over
breast conserving may be culturally relative, there are clear quality of life improvements for
those who chose breast conserving surgery. (Shaver, Brown 339) If so, then why do African
American women choose mastectomy more often? A possible reason can be a lack of
knowledge concerning breast cancer and its treatments. Going back to the idea that viewing
cancer as a white person s disease will lead to a lack of interest in learning about cancer. Another
aspect to treatment is rejecting treatment all together. It has been shown that older blacks prefer
the use of self help treatment rather than medical treatments (Goodwin et al 978) The preference
for self help treatment stems from religious ideologies. Treatment of cancer is directly related to
how likely someone will be able survive cancer. Some treatments are proven to be more effective
than others yet African American women had shorter overall survival and disease free survival than
white women who received similar adjacent chemotherapy rates. (Shavers, Brown 338) This
difference in prognosis after

Military Cyber Systems Can Be Attacked From External And...
Because we are in many ways at the beginning stages of technology advancement and many of
the modern day systems used by the military are relatively new it is difficult to predict the
likelihood that a specific system will be vulnerable to attacks and exploitation. Therefore, it is
necessary to always be prepared for it. As Bill Blunden, an author who investigates and writes on
the topic of cyberwar stated, the absence of historical data makes it nearly impossible to
analytically calculate the probability of a genuine cyber Armageddon (2014).
Past exploitations of military cyber systems and their consequences
History shows that military cyber systems can be attacked from external and internal threats. In
2008 a flash drive infected with malicious code spread throughout the system once an internal user
connected it to a military laptop, allowing the attacker unhindered access to information on both
unclassified and classified networks. It is suspected to have been planted by a foreign intelligence
agency and moved the Department of Defense to implement a new cybersecurity strategy (Mills,
2008). In March of 2015 ISIS gained control of at least 100 military personnel PII and made threats,
asking American supporters to commit Jihadist attacks against these personnel. In July of 2010
Chelsea Manning, an Army Soldier, leaked almost 750,000 classified and unclassified documents on
Wikileaks, including Afghan War documents and Iraq War documents; sentenced to 35 years in

Inhumane Living Conditions Of Broiler Chickens
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this paper is to explain the cruel inhuman way broiler chickens are treated. We will
explore living conditions, Health issues, and diets. We also show the measures that need to be done
to stop the mistreatment of these animals.
Living conditions
Broiler chickens are restricted to massive windowless sheds that holds tens of thousands of
chickens each. As G.KNOWLES has noted Throughout the world the majority of broilers are
reared using very similar, modem, intensive systems of production where birds are confined for
their lifetime within high density housing and reared from hatch to slaughter weight within
approximately 40 days. The detrimental effect of higher stocking densities may be more complex,
reflecting not only a lack of room available for birds to move and exercise, but also the extra

Reflection on Reading
February 11, 2011
Looking Back In Order to Move Forward
As a future elementary school teacher, I have always thought the task of teaching kids could be a
rewarding and gratifying experience. However, I recently realized that in order to obtain these
rewarding experiences the teacher and students must work hard and with determination. Learning to
read can be a very daunting task for a youngster. Therefore, as a teacher, it is your job to facilitate
positive reading strategies from the start. Looking back at my experiences as an early reader, I can
gain some insight as to what might help or hinder my future students.
I believe that one of the most important things you can do for your child is ... Show more content on

I feel learning the phonics of letters through the rhythms of music truly helped me as I began to sit
down with my first readers.
As I began applying what I was learning in the songs to some basic basal readers like Dick and
Jane I was able to find patterns between the phonics in the songs and the words on the page. We
had books that were themed each week with certain phonic sounds. The sound was then repeated
throughout the book but in different words. We were able to take these books home and practice
with our parents. I think that practice and repetition are key in continuing to recognize letters with
their phonic sounds. I feel these books served the purpose of achieving good reading skills for me
as a child, and continue to be helpful to children today as they learn to read.
There are two other techniques that my teacher used to help teach us how to read. One I
consider to be a good strategy and the other I am not too fond of. The first approach was using a
tape recorder and head sets. We would sit down with a book and follow along with our finger as a
voice was reading the book to us in our ear. I think this particular approach works because it
releases the anxiety and stress of having to pick apart the words on a page in order to learn them.
By following along they are able to develop listening skills and hear the

Plato on Censorship
Since the rise of man, the concept of art has also arisen. With it, the goods and troubles it causes.
Some argue that art is good and is only entertainment, while others see it as the cause of a State s
corruption. In Plato s The Republic , Socrates thought that art should be censored because of its
heavy influence on men. Writer Alexander Nehamas, on the other hand, feels that one generation s
entertainment is the next s fine art, which he thinks is ridiculous to censor. But the biggest question
that remains is: when does art stop being art?
Platonic censorship is based mainly on excluding forms of art and literature from society, based on
the components they include that portray bad role models and blasphemies, topics not ... Show more

The fact is that the works of both Homer and Aeschylus, whatever else they were in classical
Athens, were, first and foremost, popular entertainment. (Nemaha, 3) Nemaha says that
entertainment was basically just a representation of their world. To compare the Iliad... to Grand
theft auto...may seem silly if not absurd (Nemaha, 4) Nehama restates that fine art is meant to
change people, and entertainment is just to please. Art should not be censored it allows us to
express ourselves, and a world without imagination would be a dull one, with depraved life .
My personal opinion is that art should NOT be censored. It is good to have bad art in order to
show the youth what is not acceptable and what is. This way we can create a better future for the
children without leaving them so hopelessly innocent minded. In another way, I think you should
not be able to label someone else s work as good or bad art. I, just like article writer Jeff Goins,
think, what is not okay is calling something art when it s not when it is, in fact, something else. (Jeff

Substance Abuse Problem
Statement of the Problem

In 2013, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (2014),
approximately 8.2 percent of the United States population age 12 years or older, 21.6 million
persons, were classified with substance abuse or dependence. Longer patient treatment stays
benefits patients and society; however, against medical advice rates for substance abuse treatment
facilities are high despite the association between positive outcomes and treatment for substance
users (Kosanke, 2000). The change of behaviors exhibited by substance users is essential and key
for positive treatment outcomes (Mallows, 2014). The lack of substance abusers behavioral

Black Lives Matter Persuasive Essay
The Black Lives Matter Movement continues to be defined as a divisive movement in the U.S due
to the aggressive tactics done by BLM supporters. In addition, the BLM movement continues to
remain misunderstood and is often criticized by the ignorant who have no idea of their cause.
Therefore, the movement must emphasize their accomplishments and rethink their tactics within
the BLM community to fight off the false perception white America force feeds onto its citizens.
The BLM movement must strive to tear down the false equivalence of being grouped up with
terrorist. While, the white supremacist who commit political tyranny against minorities are free
from the stigmatization unlike their counterpart which seeks to fend off the horrendous judicial
system which has been oppressing them for decades. Thus, the movement must rethink their
tactics within the BLM community and reach others who may very well be a victim of
oppression. Furthering their agenda and gaining support from those who believe in civil rights
but cannot align themselves with the movement due to erroneous perceptions. The aggressive
tactics the BLM movement has taken in some cases have had a divisive outcome to many civil
rights activists. For example, Barbara Reynolds a civil rights activist who played a role in the
1960s shared her opinion on the Black Lives Matter tactics. Barbara states: Black Lives Matter is

Comparison Between Call Of Duty And Minecraft
Introduction I like to play video games because it gives me a rush when you do something right
or when you kill someone that your mission says to kill. Video games are also good for your hand
eye coordination. The two games I that I like to play the most would be Call of Duty and
Minecraft. I like to playCall of Duty because you get to shoot and kill the bad people that are
trying to kill you, there is also always another mission for you to do. I like Minecraft because you
get to build things and create beautiful houses. You can also get the ability to care for virtual
animals and name them.

Are Nuclear Families Ever Changing
Family dynamics are ever changing. In the past, nuclear families were widely considered to be
the typical american family , with 45% of families fitting into this category in 1960, compared to
the less than 25% of families today. There were also many differences in how the families
functioned even when compared to today s nuclear families. Job Pressures, new relationships within
families, and the different expectations for each member of a familynow all prove to be admirable
barriers in family life. Today, more than ever, being part of a family presents many challenges.
One of the biggest challenges in modern day families is the increase in job related pressures.

Ethnographic Cultures in British Columbia British Columbia is a region that comprises six
different cultural regions in relation to intangible property in Canada ( Aboriginal Intangible
Property par, 1). These major cultural regions include the northern region, the subarctic region,
coastal region, the plateau region, the plains region, and the northeast region. The subarctic region
basically represents the largest area in the country since it incorporates various territories including
the Northwest Territories. In contrast, the Plateau region is located in the interior of British
Columbia and expands toward Alberta. Given the differences between the subarctic and the Plateau
regions, the ethnographic cultures located in these regions have some major differences.... Show

Southern Plateau. Moreover, the ethnographic adaptations of cultures located in the Plateau region
of British Columbia are made of four major components i.e. root processing, dependence on food
storage, rigorous salmon fishing, and semisubterranean settlements. As populations in this region
grew, the cultures became increasingly complex as demonstrated by signs of social inequality in
housing. The ethnographic cultures located in the Plateau region were largely dominated by the
cultures and traditions of indigenous peoples who migrated from southern areas of this region. This
resulted in the emergence of a culture adapted to the forested mountains of the region ( Aboriginal

The Moonstone Rhetorical Analysis
A Detective s Perspective: Cuff s Use of Language Analyzed Wilkie Collins s The Moonstone is
widely considered one of the first detective novels. Collins s character, Sergeant Cuff, is also
considered one of the first detective characters and is developed through his use of rhetoric. Cuff
makes use of the three rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is used to establish his
qualifying traits as a capable detective, logos is used to logically support his position, and pathos is
used to empathetically relate to the other characters so that he can gain their trust. Sergeant Cuff
uses each rhetorical appeal differently amongst various audiences and environments. Sergeant Cuff

As a detective, it is his job to rely on factual evidence, not emotions. Cuff displays his ability to be
a good detective in comparison to his counterparts, Franklin and Betteredge. Franklin gets upset
when Cuff suspects that Rachel, whom he seems to have developed feelings for, has stolen her
own diamond. Betteredge is worried about protecting Rosanna and the other servants that he is
willing to leave out some of the evidence. Cuff is able to leave his emotions aside and focus solely
on logic. Although it seems that Cuff relies mostly on fact, he also uses the appeal pathos to gain
others trust. Sergeant Cuff displays his ability to show compassion and understand in multiple
situations and as a result more people trust him. In one specific example, the previous policeman,
Superintendent Seegrave, angered the servants by investigating all of their rooms for the diamond
and making them think that they were suspected of committing the crime. Cuff was able to smooth
things over with them so when he needed to investigate the house he made sure to investigate every
room including Lady Verinder s. By keeping the servants happy, it made it much easier to conduct
an investigation amongst the whole

Architecture Of Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is an architectural masterpiece from the 13th and 16th century. There have
been many coronations taken place there since 1066. There are many tombs of great kings and
famous people located there. There have also been sixteen royal weddings that have taken place at
the Abbey. The Abbey is not a cathedral or a parish church. There have been countless profound
occasions that have happened at the Abbey. Westminster Abbeyhas much history packed into one
building and has had a large impact on English history.
At that time the Abbey had the newest style of Gothic style including ribbed vaulting, rose
windows, flying buttresses and pointed arches. The design of the Abbey was greatly influenced
by French architecture (The Editors of the Encyclopedia, 2017). The architecture of the building
has greatly influenced English history in the fact that it was one of the tallest churches in
England, along with that it had narrower single aisles, that way it could look taller (Westminster
Abbey Faith at the Heart of a Nation). King Henry III wanted to create the Abbey for a new
Saint, and also for his own burial. There were three freemasons that supervised the designing of
the Abbey. Henry of Reyns was a major architect at that time. It is unknown if he was English or
French. He was greatly influenced by new cathedrals at Reims, Amiens and Chartres (Westminster
Abbey Faith at the Heart of a Nation). There were also two other contributors named John of
Gloucester and Robert of Beverly.
King Henry III wanted to have it built for Edward the Confessor. Henry III was close to Edward
and knew that he was a good person and wanted it built for him. Henry also wanted it built for his
own burial so he would have a perfect resting place where he could be honored. They were both
indeed buried there along with several other important people to English history. Even though the
body of Edward the Confessor was moved there later, the initial intent of Henry III still happened
his death.
There is also many pieces of artwork in Westminster Abbey that show various important occasions
in English history. One of the oldest pieces of artwork in the Abbey is the retable, it was most
likely used for

  • 2. My Thoughts About Sexual Identity When asked to write a candid and self revealing journal about my experiences, thoughts, feelings and beliefs related to human sexuality, I became intrigued. Throughout my early life, my own sexuality has been something of considerable focus because I knew that I was different than the average boy. Later, I discovered this difference was called being gay, homosexual, a faggot, or queer. I remember these names stinging just a bit because I did not want to be different than other boys, I just wanted to be accepted and close to other boys. Consequently, my identity orbited around numerous fears, thoughts, and reactions by others and me to how I subsisted as a person because of what I discovered about myself during my journey through childhood,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, I learned that my sexuality was natural and healthy until the AIDS crisis in the eighties. The crisis around HIV/AIDS generated numerous myths which may or may not have been considered sexual, but the most devastating was the revision of the myth that God hated fags. This was proven to mainstream society because God was punishing gay men with AIDS and causing us to suffer for our sin of loving. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was wrapped up in politics, religious proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself in a community of gay people that I truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and damaging to my well being. Identify when you were first aware of yourself as a sexual being. How/when did that come about? The bombast of politics and religion was not in my world view when I first discovered that I stood as a sexual being. When I was in kindergarten, I became aware that something was driving me (a feeling) toward physical contact with another person even though they were male or female. Did I know what sex was at that time? I am not sure. My parents were brought up in the generation of free love and were extraordinarily sexually open around me as far back as I could remember. I knew physical contact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Second Amendment Research Paper Ratified December 15, 1791, the bill of rights was added to the U.S. Constitution as a way to ensure the protection of every individual s rights. The bill itself is a list of rights which limits the power of the federal government and gives power back to the people in the form of rights and liberties. Some of this rights include freedom of speech, religion, and press, but perhaps the one right that still to this day has many people questioning the meaning behind its wording is the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment states that a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Acosta, 2008). In short the amendment grants the right to bear arms,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Law abiding citizens would actually turn in their weapons while criminals would not and like many anti gun control supporters say, it would only put the rest of us in danger. But giving everyone weapons just in case we are to ever need them is not the answer either. In recent years, gun violence has increased not just out in the streets, but sadly enough this increase has been transferring to schools nationwide. Just in these past 10 months, there have been 52 school shootings and since the Sandy Hook massacre there has been 152 shooting, all ranging from pre school level to college. And the grand majority of these shooters have been reported to have some sort of mental illness though the percentage of those shooters with actual mental illness are ... • 5. A Sorrowful Woman By Gail Godwin Essay A Sorrowful Woman While reading many kinds of literature about women s rights and suffrages. One of them is call The Sorrowful Woman . The story is a mournful story presenting the readers the heart of a woman sometimes in the 1970s. The author who wrote the story named Gail Godwin portrays a woman character in a way that shows us how women feel towards marriage and motherhood. The story sets in a home in which the typical mother has to take care of her house, husband, and child. She has to cook, do the laundry, and all the house chores that society tells women to do. However, one day she had quit her duties as a mother and wife, which shows the readers how it affects her family and herself. As I read the story about this sorrowful woman, I feel that the woman in the story is mentally ill and is a weak selfish character who only pities herself. The author describes the woman s husband as being durable, receptive, and gentle. She also has a son whom the author describes as a golden tender three (Godwin 38). However, despite having a wonderful husband and a sweet child; she becomes sick of seeing them every day, and isolate herself as the story goes on. The reason for her isolation could be related to how women lived back near the 1970s. Many women in the 1970s were mothers who stayed at home to take care of their husband and children. I believe the author wanted to portray the woman in a way that shows how many women probably felt back in the 1970s, but were too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Health Care Elixir Summary Within the article, America s Health Care Elixir, the author discusses all the various ways Medicare and Medicaid have evolved and positively changed health care over the years (Leonard, 2015). Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law in 1965, and since then they both have created better care and allowed low income individuals and aging adults to receive needed medical care. The number of individuals a part of Medicaid has increased from 19 million to 56 million over the years. In addition, the use of Medicaid has increased by providing health care to 70 million low income individuals (Leonard, 2015). The use of these two programs has allowed the life expectancy of our population to increase by 5 years, signaling that the care provided is effective (Leonard, 2015). Further, these two programs have removed racial segregation from hospitals and various health facilities, by allowing a greater amount of individuals to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Medicare is allowing the trend of home health agencies and technology to take over the need of nursing homes. Medicare only covers short term stays in nursing homes, and they are pushing for older adults to age in place and stay within their homes (Leonard, 2015). This alternative allows for seniors to receive medical care, as well as social services in the comfort of their own home. On another note, Medicaid and Medicare have accounted for more health care spending. As baby boomers age, health care spending will continue to excel. Policymakers have been working to find solutions to this issue, while still delivering high quality care. Baby boomers have smaller families or no children, which means they will need care from an outside source. Currently, the Affordable Care Act is finding solutions to improve their quality and lower their costs. In doing so, they have created the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Leonard, ... • 7. Stroke In Nicaraguaagua Case Study million deaths in 2013 and 14.8% of deaths worldwide (Maracy Isfahani et al, 2015). In fact, IHD causes the most number of deaths in both men and women in 2013 (Shepard, VanderZan den, Moran, Naghavi, Murray, Roth, 2015). Therefore, because IHD can lead to other com plications, it can further result in greater cost to the economy. Clearly, there is an increasing need to eliminate the incidence of IHDs in the economy and reduce its impact by setting key priorities in place that targets primary disease prevention measures. In addition, there is a need to address the social determinants of health that can maximize a supportive environment to en able individuals especially in low and middle countries to make informed choices that can have... An addi tional fact is that the lack of proper nutrition as a result of poverty is stunting the growth of young children in Nicaragua (WHO, 2017). Not surprising, the number children under 5 years who are stunted is 25.2 (WHO, 2017).Hence, strategies need to be deployed towards reducing poverty and inequalities in Nicaragua. Recommendations A further recommendation would be to address the sustainable development goals #1(zero poverty), 2 (no hunger) 3 (good health and well being) while addressing the impacts of the social determinants of health on the issue ischemic heart disease. Consequently, using upstream measures that targets the grass root cause of IHD is the best approach to reducing the global burden of IHD worldwide. Since dietary choices are not just behavioural in nature but can also be caused by social, economic and political factors. Thus, global health nurses can en gage in collaborative, interdisciplinary, intersectoral and community partnerships to foster par ticipation for the reduction of all risk factors for the development of ischemic heart diseases in Nicaragua. Likewise, global health nurses must work to address complex social, political, and economic barriers to good health and wellbeing in relation to IHDs in order to build healthy global societies. The Problem Of Self State Conscious state according to dictionary.com is being aware of one s own existence these may involve thoughts, sensations (images, aches, pain, visual, auditory and tactual sensation etc.). Smart refuses to admit to the fact that sensations are irreducibly psychical because of Occam s razor (which suggests that such matters should not even be put into consideration). He affirms there is no philosophical argument that compels us to be dualist, he writes I am in pain is a genuine report, and that what it reports is an irreducibly psychical something (Adler and Elgin 384). From this context he believes that by claiming one is in pain one is reporting something, which is over and above, (something unexplainable beyond the human... He reduced behaviours to dispositions and he classified them as being brain processes an example he gives an example of New Zealanders and the English who both refer to Venus when one group refers to it as Morning Star and the other as Evening Star his aims is to show that sensations may be similar but with different physical phenomenon. For example two people may be identical in their appearances but might have different properties. The question might be asked, that even if sensations are identical with brain processes, are there not introspected non physical properties of sensations that are not identical with properties of brain processes? (Identity theory) . To dispel this thought smart adopts topic neutral a narrower sense of being neutral to dualism and physicalism (Identity theory). If sensations are caused by physical /material things for example light the question based on this belief is whether sensations are material or immaterial from the given example above (Identity theory). Putnam admits to a lot of claims made by Smart, they both share similar views on identifying pain and other mental states with brain processes. • 9. Compare And Contrasting Fama s Articles Comparing and contrasting Fama s articles (1971, 1990), this work will critically assess the development of EMH during the 1970 to 1991 period. Firstly, it provides the reader to a short introduction to the EMH and to comparison the major changes between two articles. Thereafter, the main focus will be concentrated on second article and its critical evaluation of results obtained. The main purpose of the capital market is to provide the investors with accurate signals for resource allocation. A precondition for this is that information and trading costs equal to 0. Moreover, the joint hypothesis problem is the main obstacle about market efficiency because it must be tested jointly with some asset pricing models. In article of 1971, Fama categorised market efficiency into three main forms. Weak form is based on the historical data of the stock prices. The semi strong form tests how efficiently prices adapt to the publically available information. The third form is concerned whether any given market participants having monopolistic access to the creation of the stock prices. • 10. Concert Review Essay I would first like to start this concert review off stating that I do not know really anything about how to play and write music, and all the aspects of getting the melody and harmony right in the music. What might be simple and have a good steadiness throughout the music to me might be elabrate and unsteady to the performer. When I listen to music, I do listen to the music itself but I am more likely to relate to the lyrics so that is my main focus. So for this review, my insight on how the music is may not be that accurate. This concert review is about Bill Miller concert. I thought he was a great musician with a pretty good voice. He is very down to Earth not only just talking but through his lyrics. Within the lyrics, I could hear his Native American ancestry come alive. He played some Native American songs on what I call a Native American flute and something similar to a claranet. Then he did some original songs with the acustic guitar and a cover song which I will be reviewing. He first play an original song called Chasing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also sang lounder then he did with the other song which projects more emotion and heart behind it. Fitting in with the Ultimate Sacrifice Peer pressure is an act that should not be taken lightly because it can lead to many bad decision making and psychological damage. Bullying, alcohol drug abuse, sex, and the desire to fit in are a few leading factors of peer pressure. The Chinese people s progression with stone and pottery developed drastically in the Qin Dynasty. The Qin Dynasty followed the Zhou Dynasty and it was during this period that the Great Wall of China was established. The ruler Qin Shihuangdi is credited with building the Great Wall of China by uniting several preexisting defensive walls (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2015). These pre existing walls were less significant clay walls built by individually established towns near to the border. Some sources state that the wall was for defensive purposes but some also say that the Great Wall speaks well for a growth in the mixed soil of peace and war. It stands for some power, an unbeatable power despite all bitter conditions, known as the Great Wall Spirit among Chinese people (Great Wall Web Site, 2015), meaning that the wall didn t just represent defence, but it was a much more beautiful and well composed symbol of peace for the Chinese people. The wall was also a landmark for the architecture of the period. In Suetonius chapter on the life of Julius Caesar it is clear the motivation behind the use of foreshadowing and the importance of predicting future events using signs from celestial portents, and especially from God, as this intrigues the reader to continue. A certain passage of Suetonius s writing epitomises the captivating nature of his work, where he foreshadows the death of Julius Caesar using signs and scripture. It is the foretelling and prediction of Caesar s death which engages the reader to continue reading and find out if the scripture comes true. Suetonius s De vita Caesarum is also responsible for two famous pieces of literature. One is when Caesar is crossing the Rubicon and cries out those famous three words in Latin iacta alea est , meaning in English the die is cast and this proclaimed that the army were ... His intentions were made clear when he spoke to his friends. When he met with them, he spoke of their liberty and power in government. Such is the case when he mentions, for fine a few great ones have got the power into their hands, they have had always Kings and Tetrarchs and Tributaries; Nations and Provinces have paid them a private revenue: all we have fellows, noble and ignoble, have been a despicable mob in their eyes, without favor, without authority, obnoxious to them, to whom, if the administration had run in the true channel, we ought to have been a terror . Analyzing The Primary Features Of Eukaryotic Cells Jonathan Bowers and Bo Fisher Mrs. Li Ko September 15, 2015 Life 120L Lab Report 1 Abstract The objective of this lab was to observe prepared bacterial cells and to observe and describe the primary features of eukaryotic cells. Also, we investigated the effect of concentration gradient and temperature on the rate of osmosis in an artificial system. Finally, we investigated the effect of solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea. The purpose of our experiments was to find out whether the effect of concentration gradient on the rate of osmosis had a greater effect than temperature on the rate of osmosis. The purpose of the Elodea experiment was to see if a five percent solution of sodium chloride or distilled water effected the structure of the Elodea. To observe the primary features of a eukaryotic cell we used a compound microscope. We tested the effect concentration gradients had on the rate of osmosis two ways: with potato tissue and with dialysis tubes. We used potato slices, paper towels, bowls, sodium chloride (at different concentration levels), and a scale to test potato tissue. We used dialysis tubing, sucrose solution (10% and 40% concentration gradients), plastic clips, bags, distilled water, and a scale to test the rate of osmosis with dialysis tubes. Betty was then asked to attend school with Mahtob everyday. Betty met some nice women who worked at the school. The ladies told Betty that she could come late one day, and so Betty did. Betty, however, was very late and Moody was already there waiting to pick Mahtob up. Moody was furious when he realized Betty was not at the school. This resulted in him beating her in front of the school aids and Mahtob. Betty kept to herself after the beating, and shortly after began her journey home with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Analyzing Some of Anna Akhmatova s Poetry Unassuming Exuberance Anna Akhmatova lived from 1889 to 1966 during a dark, rough time in Russia. Everything is Plundered, I Am Not One of Those Who Left the Land, and Midnight Verses are prime examples of Akhmatova s symbolic literature. Akhmatova used poetry to help her overcome difficulties in life; it was a way of expressing and setting her feelings free. All of Anna Akhmatovas poems contain a common theme that connects to her real life: though life can be rough, it is important to deal with problems and work towards acceptance. In Midnight Verses, the theme is dark and tumultuous. This poem is a perfect reflection of Akhmatova s life. She faced many complications in life, but she had to accept them because she did not want to give up on her home country. Likewise, Akhmatova s poem has an unwilling acceptance at the end. Midnight Verses also displays her thoughts in a very creative way. And the signal bells of light rhymes / Then I begin to understand / And the simply dictated lines / Lie down in the snow white notebook (Akhmatova 13 16). Throughout Midnight Verses, Akhmatova uses powerful imagery, making it easy to relate to her thoughts. Everything is Plundered is another of Akhmatova s poems that continues to illustrate this theme. In Everything is Plundered, the theme of confusion and contrast in life is present. The struggles in life are portrayed throughout the poem. This poem reflects humanity s imperfect ... What Happens When A Soccer Ball Bounces 1.0Background Theory 1.1Introduction This investigation aims to determine the relationship between air pressure and the bounce height of the ball, and what material (material of a basketball, volleyball and soccer ball) is best suited for a ball in order for it to achieve its greatest bounce height. 1.2Research Questions 1.How does the air pressure inside a ball influence the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball? 2.How does the material of a ball affect the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball? 1.3Theory 1.31 Air Pressure Air pressure can be defined as the force applied by air molecules on the surfaces in and around an object, and is measured in Pascals one Newton per square metre (Pa) or pounds per square inch (psi). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The velocity of the ball increases in the opposite direction as it has started to rebound from the ground with acceleration still pointing up (see Figure 5). This also means that the elastic potential energy is transferring into kinetic energy, although the kinetic energy will be less than previous because some of the energy has been lost to generate heat and sound when the ball lands and deforms. Due to the loss in energy, the ball will not return to its original drop height and creates a bounce height. Figure 5: Stage 5 (Real World Physics Problems, 2016) 6.The ball is now just touching the surface so it has returned to its original shape so all the elastic potential energy has been transferred back into kinetic energy again (see Figure 6). Preventable types of cancer kill African American s in record numbers. What does this mean for African Americans? What does this mean for canceras a whole? The African Americanexperience with cancer is marked by under treatment and high mortality. African American s experience with cancer treatment is different than other ethnicities in the treatments they choose and how the treatments ultimately work. Although breast conserving surgery rates have increased among African American women, they still lag behind utilization rates of white women (Shaver, Brown 339) Although black women choosing mastectomy over breast conserving may be culturally relative, there are clear quality of life improvements for those who chose breast conserving surgery. (Shaver, Brown 339) If so, then why do African American women choose mastectomy more often? A possible reason can be a lack of knowledge concerning breast cancer and its treatments. Going back to the idea that viewing cancer as a white person s disease will lead to a lack of interest in learning about cancer. Another aspect to treatment is rejecting treatment all together. It has been shown that older blacks prefer the use of self help treatment rather than medical treatments (Goodwin et al 978) The preference for self help treatment stems from religious ideologies. Treatment of cancer is directly related to how likely someone will be able survive cancer. Because we are in many ways at the beginning stages of technology advancement and many of the modern day systems used by the military are relatively new it is difficult to predict the likelihood that a specific system will be vulnerable to attacks and exploitation. Therefore, it is necessary to always be prepared for it. As Bill Blunden, an author who investigates and writes on the topic of cyberwar stated, the absence of historical data makes it nearly impossible to analytically calculate the probability of a genuine cyber Armageddon (2014). Past exploitations of military cyber systems and their consequences History shows that military cyber systems can be attacked from external and internal threats. In 2008 a flash drive infected with malicious code spread throughout the system once an internal user connected it to a military laptop, allowing the attacker unhindered access to information on both unclassified and classified networks. It is suspected to have been planted by a foreign intelligence agency and moved the Department of Defense to implement a new cybersecurity strategy (Mills, 2008). In March of 2015 ISIS gained control of at least 100 military personnel PII and made threats, asking American supporters to commit Jihadist attacks against these personnel. As I began applying what I was learning in the songs to some basic basal readers like Dick and Jane I was able to find patterns between the phonics in the songs and the words on the page. We had books that were themed each week with certain phonic sounds. The sound was then repeated throughout the book but in different words. We were able to take these books home and practice with our parents. I think that practice and repetition are key in continuing to recognize letters with their phonic sounds. I feel these books served the purpose of achieving good reading skills for me as a child, and continue to be helpful to children today as they learn to read. There are two other techniques that my teacher used to help teach us how to read. One I consider to be a good strategy and the other I am not too fond of. The first approach was using a tape recorder and head sets. We would sit down with a book and follow along with our finger as a voice was reading the book to us in our ear. In Plato s The Republic , Socrates thought that art should be censored because of its heavy influence on men. Writer Alexander Nehamas, on the other hand, feels that one generation s entertainment is the next s fine art, which he thinks is ridiculous to censor. In addition, the BLM movement continues to remain misunderstood and is often criticized by the ignorant who have no idea of their cause. There have been many coronations taken place there since 1066. There are many tombs of great kings and famous people located there. There have also been sixteen royal weddings that have taken place at the Abbey. The Abbey is not a cathedral or a parish church. There have been countless profound occasions that have happened at the Abbey. Westminster Abbeyhas much history packed into one building and has had a large impact on English history. At that time the Abbey had the newest style of Gothic style including ribbed vaulting, rose windows, flying buttresses and pointed arches. The design of the Abbey was greatly influenced by French architecture (The Editors of the Encyclopedia, 2017). The architecture of the building has greatly influenced English history in the fact that it was one of the tallest churches in England, along with that it had narrower single aisles, that way it could look taller (Westminster Abbey Faith at the Heart of a Nation). King Henry III wanted to create the Abbey for a new Saint, and also for his own burial. There were three freemasons that supervised the designing of the Abbey. Henry of Reyns was a major architect at that time. It is unknown if he was English or French. He was greatly influenced by new cathedrals at Reims, Amiens and Chartres (Westminster Abbey Faith at the Heart of a Nation).
